You fly towards The Citadel with the storm of an age at your back, the coming fury has been growing with every foot you've flown. Yet you've kept it in check, you are no longer in Cape Verde and losing control over a slight thunderstorm, you are no longer the boy who struggled to prevent his rainclouds from burning down an Arkansas barn with lightning.

Instead you're the man marching towrds his death at the hands of whatever Regime "hero" is sent out to meet you. Which, is weighing pretty heavily on you.

Not that you expected anything positive to come out of this suicide mission; but you can't help but feel you haven't really been much of a distraction...

Time to change that.

You channel all the air around you mouth as you rise ever higher, standing in the sky about even with the tallet spire of the Regime's capital.

While the fortress itself still towers over you, the citizens and rooftop watchers of the regular town - Genome, alien, human or otherwise - all must stare up at you.

" My name... is Raijiin. I am a superhero." You boom, "When Yuri first created this regime, I was by his side and one of his supporters. For three years I was one of your guardians.

You let the words settle and take a deep breath.

" Until I discovered the truth about our armies. The Genome. I found out What the so called "reformed Doctor Darwin did to create them -"

"I think that you should stop right there." A voice like sandpaper growls to your left.

"Traitors have no right to criticise the allmighty-" young kid says from behind you.

Huh. Ranger and Scout. You never actually -

"Scout. Don't insult Raijiin. He disgarees with our ethics but-"

"He's a filfthy terrorist!" The kid spits causing you to look back and forth like this is some tennis match in the sky. In fact with their weird menuever gear attaching them to the nearest spires, you could maybe turn it into one literally.

"He's dedictaed his life to others. We'll discuss this later Scout." Ranger says, settling the arguement with his famed intimidation. Honestly, aside from his crazy hand to hand skills and frightening agility with those line launcher things they're wearing... you don't know what his deal is.

"Ranger... you're the one who's going to try and stop me next." You look over to the sidekick, "Are you sure you want Scout around to see us try and kill each other."

"Unlike you Raijiin, I don't kill." He says, but a look over to Scout means he is reconsidering slightly, "And I don't think you're a child murderer."

"You're right. I'm better than Yuri." You spit, some red from your last fight still in there.

"Plus I'd rather work out why you're throwing your life away in a one man assault you cannot win." Ranger growls.

"Yeah, death by cop is a coward's way out." Scout backs him up, "While you're scum, you don't seem stupid."

You can't give the game away.

"I'm surprised you haven't worked it out Ranger. Your highly praised for your intelligence." You say, being completely honest. This guy was the Regime's go to investigator and a hell of a scientist too. His interrogation skills are the stuff of legend... yet he seems clueless about your reasons for leaving. Is he playing you, or has someone been keeping him away from your "case" deliberatly? "Why don't you tell me your theories?"

Scout groans and Ranger just complies, "Excluding what you were just broadcasting. Until that moment I thought you'd had some kind of fight or arguement with Klaxon and Veteran following the Tokyo supression." He pauses, "Alternatively, I figured the blood on your hands and the Regime's hands was too much for you... you were never exactly the bloodthirsty type."

Scout adds in, "I always thought once the incident between Veteran and Angel happened you went off the deep end. You were supposed to be my field trainer. Then she dies and you weren't cleared for duty anymore."

"Yeah. I... tried to attack Veteran when he reported it. Liberty stopped me." You look down, "If it weren't for Siren's speaking up she'd probably have ended me there."

"But you were about to say something about Doctor Darwin and The Genome." His eyes narrow underneath the hooded helm. "Tell me what it is."

Doctor Darwin takes normal every day people and turns them into genome, removing all he can to make perfect drones. Not even Criminals, just people snatched off the street. He's caused 90% of all disappearances here.

And the tougher ones? He vivisects powered people to power the stronger genomes.

I cannot let this go on. Maybe you are right, maybe revenge is also one of my motivators. But Doctor Darwin, and his research has to go down.
>>
>>1651003
>>1650957

"Well. You might no believe this, but Doctor Darwin is kidnapping criminals form their cells and dissidents from their homes in order to create the Genome. I found that out by accident when looking for ways to bring her back." With a sigh you add, "Any villain not willing to work within the Regime's rules is also used as parts for the stronger Genome... the powered ones."

Ranger is scarcthing his chin and Scout draws his sword and handgun, "You don't actually believe this do you?"

"I don't believe anything. you know that Scout." Ranger says, pulling out a console, "I leave this situation to your better judgeent Scout. I have investigating to do."

He reels in his line, speeding across the sky, you hear another line be shot out immediately after.

Scout spins his sword and you hear his line release as he floats in the air for a split second.

You channel the power of air straight at him and are satisfied to see him blow off course just as he shot another line out to anchor on a nearby building.

The handgun doesn't even come close to hitting home, but with a smirk you realize he's got stun bullets applying tazer shocks. It's lamost cute.

"You know, without someone watching his back Ranger won't survive the day." You tell Scout.

"You don't know him like I do." he snarls, kicking off a rooftop to throw mini epxlosives at you; a small vortez carries them harmlessly around and away from you to explode in the air.

"You're right but the minute he starts digging, Darwin, Yuri or Liberty will have him offed." You move close and blast a few lightning bolts so no watchers think you're taking it easy. "I know you don't ebleieve me, but if you help Ranger you'll find the proof you need."

"He'll only find out you're lying." Scout attests, stopping stationary between two buildings with the streets below filled with fleeing civillains and a genome or two looking up at your impotently.

"Well if he finds that; wouldn't you want his backup to take me on?"

"What are you even getting at." Scout demands as his hand creeps to his utility belt.

"All I want is for you to do what's right." You say as you shoot bolts of lightning towards the sidekick swinging through the street, you fly after him at a leisurely pace trying to make this look good. "Whether that's taking a dive is on you."

Scout spins in the air and unloads with his pistol in full automatic mode, forcing you to increase your height as quickly as possible. Feeling the first couple bullets whizz by forces you to sigh in relief when they pass.

Raising your arms you gather a ball of electricity to toss down at him, "Either way, if I die Ranger's my best shot at taking down Darwin. So we both want him safe, don't we?"

With that you throw your energy ball down at him, the lightning looking to impact the red hero's helmet. But a last minute line launch takes him out of it's path, for now.

With a gesture you change the trajectory of your lightning ball, freeing it form the grasp of gravity sending it racing after Scout.

It hits home and Scout goes plumetting into a back alley with his gear temporarily deactivated.

Now you just have to wait, only time will tell if he's going to stab you in the back or give you the benefit of the doubt.

Satisfied with that thought, you begin floating back towards The Fortress, but notice something curious.

Directly in your path, four blocks distant a huge red circle is moving outwards. All the windows of the skyscrapers on the main street exploding outward in a shower of glass around it.

With a stab of realization you immediately slam a huge ball of lightning into the ground, plitting the conrete open like an egg and opening access to the sewers whilst flying downward with all do haste.

Pipes spew geysers of filthy and clean water up into the street providing you some ammunition to utilize as you plunge into almost futuristic sewers beneath the main street. Before you even land, you freeze the waters into a thick wall behind you, allowing you a slight breather to plan.

Blue lighting against an almost blue stone causes everything to look almost alien. The fact that the shadows stretch around to unnatural length outside of the little sanctuaries of blue light add to this unhuman atmosphere.

You float up into the shadows above one of the spotlights and try to still your heart's erratic beating as you hear a crack. moments later, a white and red clad superhero lands in the sewers with red flames flickering from his body.

An all too familiar sight is Klaxon.

Judging by the sound of steam from above, he's probably brought Siren with him...

The fastest man alive and The Human Supernova...

You do not have time for this; but attracting the big guns was the plan.

Reaching out with the wind you make splashes in the water big enough to loudly echo down the sewers, hoping Siren and Klaxon will look that way.

Instead Siren rolls her eyes and you find yourself falling to the ground and reeling from a left hook that shatters the surrounding tiles before you even register movement from Klaxon.

The landing is hard, the strange blue bricks providing aboslutely no give despite the obviously superhuman impact you just took.

In a word, "Fucckkkk."

"Watch your language Kisuke." Siren lectures, turning her hands into large lamps, "We raised you better than that."

"I'm also sure we taught you better than the noise distraction trick." Klaxon growls, crossing his arms and tapping his foot right next to your head. You don't even need to tilt your head from your facedown position to see the scowl on his features.

"Yeah well, you also taught me that tyranny is wrong." You spit, getting a knee under youself, "Looks like we're all failing."

A kick at hypersonic speeds targets your cracked ribs and sends you into the air with only a choked gasp, as you're spinning round you see a red streak as Klaxon runs up the wall and leaps off the sewer ceiling to stomp your face down into the flowing water.

From above you hear Siren tut whilst your father reaches in and drags your head free by viture of a super strength assisted throttling.

He looks almost embaressed with those red cheeks.

Good. Your glad you've stung what's left of his pride.

Despite your throat being crushed by super strength even to that of Princess Pain, you find yourself smirking and then laughing up at the twisted face of rage.

"What's so funny, you fool?" Klaxon asks, his grip loosening just a fraction.

"You threw me in water you senile old bastard." You quip as your eyes spark.

Klaxon tries to trigger his super speed, but that short activation time can't out pace your lightning's activation as you turn the whole sewer system into one big electrical current, conducted around the city.

Unbeknownst to you, your team look at the water around them becoming an electrical river and share a wry grin.

But Siren isn't about to let you off that easily. Her body is engulfed in fire form head to tail, the tempearture in the small cramped tunnel skyrocketing. You try to focus on channeling as much lightning as you can, seeing the muscles and flesh of your father jump and writhe underneath the power you're putting out and through him.

So you are caught unawares when the water around you begins evaporating rapidly, eliciting screams from your father and you as your legs fall prey to the scalding heat.

His grip loosens and he stumbles back to the dry land, while you retreat into the ankle deep boiled water and stare up at Siren as she floats in front of you with globs of Lava on her hands and a small fire on her lower body.

Nobody speaks.

You both just size each other up.
