You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

After what was a short night of a bit of drinking and carousing with Naru and Solana, you seemed to have dozed off in an alcohol aided stupor. Plus also maybe a side effect of the beating you suffered at the hands of Nino's poorly aimed fire blast.

Anyways, when you wake up in the morning, you find yourself...

You wake up to find yourself in the Monastery's infirmary. You're completely stripped of your armor, which is all neatly placed at the side of the room. Hovering directly over you is Solana's angelic face, seemingly perfectly framed by the rays of morning sunlight leaking through the windows. Almost as if she was Sol's Chosen.

"Ah, you're awake!" Solana smiles warmly.

It's then that it finally hits you that you are not wearing your armor, and your arms immediately scrabble for your helmet.

"Oh, my apologies, I just wanted to make certain that your wounds had completely healed." Solana explains as she hands you your helmet, which you place back on your head. "Though to be honest..."

"It's quite a shame you hide that face and body behind all that armor~." Solana coos, like a mother teasing her child.

You give Solana a warning glare.

"Oh, don't worry, I won't speak a word of this to the others." Solana chuckles. "The Church takes cleric-patient privacy very seriously!"

Ah, well, you suppose it's not so bad then and you start to relax.

"Though, I am rather curious." Solana smiles. "Why do you insist on wearing this bulky armor all the time? I can't imagine it ever being comfortable."

You just give Solana a look. Obviously she's never worn a good, quality set of armor before. You grab a pillow and squish it in your hands, and then point to your armor.

"Ah, so it's more comfortable than it look?" Solana smiles. "Well, I suppose that's what I get for making assumptions."

You then look around and point at the empty bed next to you.

"Oh, the others? Well, Naru is sleeping off all that drinking she did last night, though she might be awake by now. Nino is in the library, and Morgan has been wandering the perimeter again. She seems to be a girl that values her privacy, no?"

You nod in agreement.

"As for Vally, she's left ahead of me to report our findings to the Church." Solana continues and stands up. "And on that note, I really should be heading back. I'm sure Naru should be able handle your treatment from here, though your body is highly resilient, fortunately."

You nod and make a sign of thanks to Solana as she leaves.

Well, now it was just you, lying in the infirmary bed.

Surprisingly enough, you find Morgan rather quickly. Naturally, she was outside of the Monastery itself, practically in the treeline. It seemed like she was... training Romulus?

You just decide to stand back and watch silently as Morgan continues to play around with Romulus, letting the little yapping wolf pup to chase her around in circles before she finally throws a bone to him and stops. Romulus then pounces and begins gnawing on Morgan's boot, as if it's tiny puppy teeth could actually tear through.

Well, one day, they would. But today, it just looked rather adorable.

Morgan then finally turns around and notices that you're standing there, and she becomes as pale as her hair. Almost in the space of an eyeblink, she covers the distance between herself and you, her face having suddenly turned a shade of pink the meantime as a confused Romulus waddles over to try and catch up.

"H-h-how long have you been standing there?!" She whimpers.

Your armored hand settles on top of Morgan's white hair, and she immediately freezes. Her face becomes crimson red this time, and you're afraid that might have overdone it. You immediately try to retract your hand but Morgan's arms immediately shoot out and grab it, pulling it back down on her head.

"I... I didn't say you could stop." Morgan mumbles.

Oh boy...

And that's how you and Morgan ended up sitting under a tree, with the ranger sitting on your armored lap, Romulus nestled in hers. Neither of you say anything, with Morgan just content to lean back against your breastplate as Sol's morning rays warm you both.

Actually, with Morgan in such a relaxed state, you figure it was okay to ask her a little more about her.

Then again, what did you really want to know about her?

Pretty much the only thing you truly knew was her goal. To reach the mountain range at the far edge of the Frontier, though she never actually told you why.

You didn't want to push your luck, though. You're only willing to ask her just question for now.

You tap Morgan on the shoulder to get her attention.

"Yeah?" Morgan tilts her head backwards to look at you. It was pretty cute, honestly.

You point to her, and then point to the surrounding area in a sweeping motion.

"You're asking where I'm from?" Morgan raises an eyebrow.

You nod to confirm her response.

"Ah, well...." Morgan bites her lip. "I suppose there's no harm telling you, I guess."

She then stretches out and leans back on you like cat, resting against your body.

"Truth is, I'm not really sure where I'm from." Morgan sighs. "At least, not a good idea, anyways."

You look down at her.

"I was raised by a bunch of forest hermits. You know, weirdos like me who avoid the bigger cities and towns and live in the wilderness. Kinda just tagged along with them and we traveled all over the place, in both the Frontier and the Kingdoms. Once I was old enough to travel on my own, I kinda just wandered back to the Frontier."

You then point to the direction of the distant mountain range, acting on a hunch.

"Yeah, some of the hermits mentioned that I was brought to them by a wolf, and it headed back in that direction." Morgan explains and sighs. "Though I'm not sure if they were telling the truth or just high off forest mushrooms."

You give Morgan a serious glance.

"Hey, I never took any myself, okay?" Morgan huffs defensively. "Anyways, I figured that if I ever managed to make my way out there, I'd find out for sure."

You just nod silently.

"Come on, you're probably thinking something that impulsive is really dumb, don't you?" Morgan sighs.

You just put a reassuring hand on Morgan's shoulder and give her an approving nod. Everybody wanted to know where they came from. It was a natural desire for all humans.

"Hah, well, now that I told you something, it's your turn to do the same!"

Morgan smiles mischievously as she spins around, looking directly at your helmet as she pushes your body against the three you're leaning on. She for sure doesn't have the strength to seriously pin you down, but you do get the signal she was trying to send.

"So, Templar, why don't you tell me where you came from?" She grins straight to your face. "You're quite the mysterious one as well."

You try to figure out the best way to put it. You dig into your pack and pull out an old, bronze medallion, no bigger than a coin. You then hand it to Morgan to inspect.

"This is..." Morgan's eyes widen. "An orphanage badge?"

You nod.

"But I thought you said you had a family?" Morgan was clearly confused now.

You point to your Templar crest. You may have lost your original family, but the Templars gave you a new one.

"I was always under the impression Templars weren't too big on the family thing." Morgan blinks. "I mean, they do most of their recruiting from war orphans."

You then point to the city, more specifically the Church and the Tower. It's not as if the Templars were the only organization that liberally used orphans to fill their ranks.

"...you have a point." Morgan concedes. "So... you have father?"

You nod.

"And a mother?" You nod again.

"...siblings?"

You raise four fingers. They should be old enough to start neophyte training now that you think of it.

"...huh, I didn't know the Templars could be so... human." Morgan frowns and then turns back to you. "Um, no offense."

You shake your head. None taken.

"So um, besides being part of a Templar family, where exactly were you from?" Morgan asks again.

That was technically two questions, but they were closely related, so you'd allow it.

You point north.

"North..?" Morgan pauses. "Cydonil?"

You shake your head.

"Elerenthe?"

You shake your head.

Morgan then pauses again, and her eyes widen when she narrows it down.

"Vosskon?"

You nod.

"Sol's light, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, honestly." Morgan sighs. "Isn't that kingdom right on the edge of the Northern Orcish Territories?"

You nod again. Vosskon was a cold and barren place, with no intrinsic value other than the high mountains and narrow passes serving as a natural barrier against the savage Orc tribes of the north. War was a constant reality of those living there, and the Templars could always reliably find new recruits, as well as sympathetic kings willing to host them for their military might.

"So, erm, you're not actually a zombie, are you?" Morgan asks suspiciously.

You shake your head vigorously.

"Ah, okay. I was afraid you might've been one of those Vosskon zombies or something." Morgan sighs in relief.

One thing that set Vosskon apart from the other kingdoms was their tolerance of necromancy. Well, more than tolerance, it was a state sponsored magical practice. First of all, it was an efficient way to preserve manpower by employing the use of undead for menial labor and frontline fighting. Second, Orcs were absolutely terrified of the undead, as it was their strict beliefs that the first death should be the final one, and the idea that their bodies could be raised again was sacrilege.

"Well, anyways, must be nice for you to have a family waiting for you." Morgan sighs. "I'm still having trouble even figuring out who I am."

You know, now that you think about it, you seem to remember that old Archmagus Elias implied he knew more about Morgan. Maybe if you visited him again, you could get more answers.

Then again, he was still a Mage, and their kind were (mostly) untrustworthy, even if he was very polite.

Well, looks like we got a tie, so we'll have to roll it off!

1. Consult Elias
2. Find answers yourself.

Eh, you decide it's probably best if you and Morgan found the answers yourselves. No sense trying to wring them out of a stuffy old mage, if he even had them in the first place.

"Anyways, I've been talking with Solana and Nino." Morgan continues, leaning against your chest again. "And she told me you were fighting a Forest Warden?!!"

You nod in confirmation.

"Are you goddamn crazy!?"

You shake your head.

"Don't tell me this is some sort of honor thing?" Morgan raises an eyebrow.

You raise two fingers, gesturing that maybe just a little.

"Figures." Morgan sighs. "You're gonna go chasing after that Forest Warden the first chance you get, aren't you?"

You pat Morgan on the head again, assuring her that you'll only go after the Forest Warden if your paths crossed again. And given the vengeful nature of Elves, you were pretty sure it would happen again.

"Heh, that's good to know." Morgan grins. "And uh, if we ever do run into that Forest Warden again... well... that might hurt your Templar pride..."

You wait for her to finish.

"...but if your paths do cross, let me help, please?" She asks.

You nod and give Morgan a thumbs up.

"That's good to hear." Morgan smiles. "So what's the plan now? I'm sure Havel and Solana can handle all the politic stuff regarding the Elves for the moment."

You pause for a moment, and then take out your map and wave it about a bit.

"Oh, the Ruin? Yeah, we should get around to checking that out before someone else loots it." Morgan nods. "But, well... it's still pretty early in the day."

Morgan then shifts around a bit in your lap.

"Maybe we can stay out here just a little longer...?"

You pat Morgan's head again. You don't see any harm in that.

Morgan simply smiles and snuggles up closer to you. Romulus makes a loud yawning noise before settling down as well.

Morgan is quick to doze off, nestled securely against your chest. You stroke her hair gently, wondering just how tired Morgan was to fall asleep so quickly. Perhaps she was up all night fretting about your condition?

Possible, but who would ever know?

She then mumbles something under her breath which you can't hear clearly, and she wraps her arms around you in an unconscious embrace. Romulus whimpers at Morgan getting all the attention until you placate him with a pet to the head.

In the distance, you could see Naru leading Nino off to Eisenwand, no doubt to replenish supplies from the market. Nino is skipping ahead on the road while Naru lags behind, obviously possessing nowhere near Nino's boundless energy. Neither of them notice you and Morgan cuddled together in the trees.

Sol's light was starting to warm up your armor, and you realize it's a rather nice feeling, in conjunction to Morgan's weight on your body. You know your teachers had always stressed that a Templar's greatest joy should stem from glory on the battlefield.

However, as your eyelids grow heavy, you can't argue that small moments like this didn't have their appeal, either.
