Later Tonight, there will be a trial game for [World Tree], a party based skirmish where each player takes control of a single adventurer. As a successor to the Floors name, it uses a retouched system that will solve the problems its predecessor had. Players must work to explore the roots of the World Tree, a generational phenomenon that connected the world to all others. However they must pace themselves as there are many floors to a dungeon and return trips must be accounted for. " A Scholar Looking: For hearty adventurers experienced or new to explore a recent phenomenon that is [Dungeons], one has been sighted in a small hamlet by Avalon, will want for the company and can offer strategic services, and first rights to the loot "

It should be noted, that there will be a 4 party cap until 1.0 is formalized. Every new adventurer is registered once they complete their statblock which for the most part is completed straight from the sheet for you.

Hmm with the principal party here, I suppose I should begin with where we are headed, ultimately our goal is to travel to Avalon, the City that gazes towards the World Tree. However, as I was making plans with another colleague of mines, their correspondence have come up silent for some time. Worse yet, it would seem that the last word to come from their town was the construction of an Inward Keep, that is- a defensive structure made to contain the entrance of a Dungeon or a concentrated Leyline. Though we have yet to ascertain the fate of the town, it is certain that dungeon has emerged and for multiple reasons it is there where we must go next. Chief of which is the collection of a friend. As per agreements I have little in the way to compensate you, however, even simple leylines are rich in resources to mine. If there's nothing for it, then we shall make our way to Dunndirk " > Dunndirk, unlocked. > Mission may begin in 5 hours time. During which time; - More Parties may form. - The First party may decide on a [Leader] and a [Name] - Leader will be in charge of directing the party in case botting needs to happen, and only them. Alternatively we should look for the main gates of this town and open it... perhaps this place won't want for such securities at this rate. !Primary Objective - Find an Exit.Secondary objective - Seek out Yggdra Scholar and extract them.Ultimate Objective - KILL THE CURSE. You might be wondering why I set up parties the way I did, simply I only wish for [HERO] to lead the exploration, while [TOWER] can provide judicious amount of firepower on around stress points in the town to divert, destroy, or distract monsters. > Upon a successful day in a dungeon's depths, Players may gain a LEVEL. Comments!Magi's Expanded AoE feels like it should have either an SP cost or a Mana cost, to tie in with other weapon skills like Axe Straight Cleave. Magi are also a bit odd, in that they essentially "bank" actions in the runes. 2 actions = 2 runes, then tap forever for 1 spell / turn. It feels like there should be a limit on the range at which you can tap runes for mana. Otherwise you simply set it up so that you have 2-4, get your 2-4 mana for spells / turn, and eternally roll from there with little else to spell SP on. If you can add more mana for +pow, Magi start at 14 or 16 damage, and simply escalate from there. Back of the envelope math suggest a lvl 2 human fire magi can start at doing 18 dmg in a full aoe (6 * 3) and if they can use SP or mana to increase the multiplier further, it turns into nuke bombs. This ties in a bit movement and ranges. Bows, Magi and Guns have very long range, and movement is very limited. Bows, Guns and Magi also universally do more damage than any non-warrior melee. That gets kind of quirky, because then why do melee at all? For the same action cost you can do more damage further away, without placing yourself in any danger. The shortsword in a sworns hand offers 12 dmg, but you have to spend actions to move closer and get surrounded. A clearout offers 12 at rng 10, ½ hostile armor, and you can spend the turn firing twice. Without the reload cost on guns, or the need to prepare spells for magi because mana drawing is a tap, it massively skews the scale. I'd suggest increasing the shortsword +dmg to +6 at minimum. And the knight shield should probably be 3x on the frontal arc.
this is because the Sworn is actually very fragile vs melee damage. The spread is 6 (brewler) to 24 (axe warrior). A warrior hits 30 with adrenaline, which per action has a 10% of doing 60. If the warrior attacks twice, that's 18 % of hitting someone for 60 damage. The Sworn has 12 front armor and 80 HP? That's gone very, very, quickly even if they block and up their def. They might not fight Warriors, but enemies outnumbers them so they get flank/rear attacks, can crit, and pump out lots of attacks. 10 dmg on a slime might not seem like a lot vs 80 hp an 12 armor, but 3 slimes can eat a sworn alive simply because they will get lucky. In a single turn their damage can be 0 to 120, and the sworn cannot fight back with a 12 dmg melee attack effectively. Other monsters will have deadlier attacks. Those Orcs probably deal more than 10 on a hit. Vs a Sworn, a Warrior has only slightly less armor (3). which is basically nothing, but deals damage wildly out of propertion to the Sworn, in a wider area, at less cost. If they tank nearly as effectively, the Sworn doesn't seem to have a niche. --Last Rites restoring SP trivially is... a problem, potentially. For every corpse, Shrinekeepermaidens generate healing or +dmg. And you want to create corpses, because that's how the enemy is dead! For attrition, they beat out others. Good stats and decent armor + kill powered healing and damage increases compound on itself. Maybe it should be a full turn action that hits a 3x3 aoe around the caster, and you can't do it during a battle? Then it can clear the field and restore SP as intended, but allows pressure to sustain and build during fights? Having the Nagiata allow Mercy Strike for those last rites on a hit would then also make that shine a bit more. FInally, the Brewler is. . . odd. It's weak and anaemic, can't deal damage through any armor, and offering healing takes a minimum of 4 actions ( get corpse - distill - brew - move to target and throw to target or have target drink, which must be within rng 3 ) to give healing that's only pot 6 vs pot 8 on a cast action by Maidens. But then Fire Brandy gives +6 Pot DMG and Earth give +6 Flank Armor for an entire battle? then suddenly its 3 * 12 dmg (24% of 1 hit being 24) with 12 armor all over, which beats the sworn, and a +6% to hit if HeroLite. That tears everything completely apart with your bare hands. Stack on a Hit For Hit and laugh as things get punched to bits while trying to flank you. But then the throwables deal 3 pot healing ( 6 / 2), or 6 pot fire dmg, at less range than Magi spells, for less AoE and way more investment? The numbers don't seem to correlate with each other. Don't get the intention there.
Moving to math multipliers seems like it has accidentally meant reworking some core math assumptions and this should be looked at. Damage scaling vs armor, and the neccessity of multipliers on used stats. The system is beautiful in that it has span on a simple number system. But then a lvl 2 warrior can hit someone for 42 during Adrenaline, which is 21 even on a glancing hit. A potential damage output range of 0 to 84 (miss, glance, hit, crit) is very, very hard to accomodate effectively. And some things are simply additive instead of multiplicative. Better longcoat bullets could give +6 pot, which would take their damage from 12 to 15 or from 18 to 21. Surely impressive, but nowhere near the same level as straight multipliers from Boosted Fire Spells or Adrenaline or Brewler Fists giving them a 3x multiplier on every +1 dmg as they attack a lot. ---But gosh is it pretty! And the map scaling is pitch *perfect* for the movement ranges and sizes. And the resolution of mechanics is super, super flowy. And that's my feedback, anyhow.
>>1693117The Shrine Keepers allow interesting options, but are the Wards recoverable/reusable? I will find out soon regardless. Also, what does Mercy Strike do? And Triagram? Might as well ask about Carve Arrow as well.Do I do anything with Insight now or is it an after battle thing?Shrine Maidens/Keeper also seem to be missing the equipment compatibility listings that all the other classes have.Overall combat feels nice, looks nice, and despite being lvl1 we have plenty of options.>>1693152>>1693172>>1693185I agree that the damages feel a little unbalanced. All of the Melee weapons but the Greataxe do equal or less damage at start than all of the Ranged weapons, this only makes sense if the ammo is hard to come by, how many turns is a day? 12? 16?A note on the Shrine Maidens/Keepers, the Frog SM/K could use a flute and cast AoE in a 2 square radius around itself, although weaker, I am assuming this would mean area Kari.
>>1693117The last name lottery that humans have, whatever the hell 'triagrams' are supposed to be and everything about Insight; I love how spare on details the rules are, though it was a bit of a struggle at first to judge how much damage is being dealt and taken and I didn't notice that enemies had hearts with their HP at first. I think that I did well enough as a [Leader] and contributed a little bit though not as much as the magi and longcoats. Also, I thought that the two racial output stats for the magi and shrine maiden were male and female, at first, rather than human and frog.
>>1693172Had a thought about Brewing and numbers.Do it as Base Int * Alquemy Kit Multiplier on the Armor that has the Alquemy Pouch. Base 2x. Kerro adds as +pot. Same function as mag for Mages and Maidens on their spells. This gives youInt 32x Alqoholism PouchBase Pot 6, 8 if Frog. +2 POT per Kerro / Xtal used. Better xtals? better drinks. More xtals? Way better drinks.HP, DMG splash when throwing, recovery, other effects are full pot (=+8 HP on 1 hard green, then +12 HP if you spend 3 grams with 6 kerro in total)Things that are effectively stat increases use ½ potencyFire Brandy +Dmg per attack = 3, +1 per gram of 2 kerroEarth Draught +Armor = 3, +1 per gram of 2 kerroIf you came up with a drink that made you faster, it could either be +3 move, or it could be a further divisor ("1/3rd when increasing mov, vision, mag res").You'd only need to know 2 things when making a drinkIngredients + potency factor EgFire Brandy1oz Spirit + 2 Kerro FireIf drunk, ½ pot +dmgIf thrown, pot as 5 tile fire splashDoing it this way prevents the following scenario:Int 33 Fire Shards, 2 Kerro3 * 6 = 18 +POT per attack for a entire battle.---basically make shards / xtals a linear additive component to the brewing process, with majority decided by stats representing skill at brewing. Same way bullets give +pot to a gun instead of multipliers. Then more INT or better brewing gear gets you better output, and throwing in more shards gets you linear scaling effects. With int 3 and generating int = 3 grams per corpse, each gram having 2 kerro, you end up with +6 to base if you use an entire distilliation load rather than an x6 factor, which can kick things into ludicrous overdrive really quickly. If not, someone will roll a brewler frog, make a fire brandy of 4 int * 6 kerro, drink it, and do 3 attacks of 30 dmg blunt per action.
>>1693122Ive been able to solo it so far since all the complexity occurred in generation and less so in exchanges
>>1693220If I had to guess, I'd say Insight is a leveling mechanic akin to Fighting Spirit, with less of the requirement that you take danger on yourself.
>>1693220Mercy Strike allows a clean beheading so as to prevent ghouling and other nonesense the next day. Doing it as the killing blow regains SP.Triagram allows for the point between 3 wards to become targettalbe with spells. Wards arent recoverable once placed down, but there's a chance they turn into loot after their target dies. Carve arrow allows one to make more arrows during saferoom breaks provided that wood or bamboo is at hand. Per x Spd. Insight is needed in order to level up each time the party rests. For shrine-keepers/maidens it is either insight or offerings which will allow them to grow and learn more skills. There is 24 turns to a day however nightfall occurs during 10 hours of it due to the solstice. At night, Strong enemies show up to hunt and daytime mobs behave strangelyIt is advised that you plan your days around this or find shelter in that time.
>>1693419Thanks for the answers. Do I need to declare Mercy Strike, or does it happen whenever applicable?
>>1693172A brewler can offer drinks to knights and warriors too. To make a strong thing monstrously stronger. The aoe is also factored in with their ability to stock on any element. If a mage can make better use of the crystals then why not give them it or a drink. Characters can only fet drunk on a single buff and sobriety isn't possible until the battle is over so in critical moments serving the best drink may be the kingmaker. >>1693433 i cant remember shit all so please tap it

>>1693172" A battle " In this case is defined as a resolved exchange with combat parties until there is zero aggro. THeoretically a battle can last 3 slimes or slimes and the entire map that got pulled during an altercation. Under this logic, nothing short of willfully taking a risk to fight more mobs for an extended period of time will expose this balance for its benefits, which in truth may not be a wise gamble if attrition has a chance of causing burnout sooner rather than later. >>1693479Ask your local brewster :vIt seems with the data gathered I can make a small change to Sworn, in which their equipment now stacks up equally with the Warrior's and can fulfill their role as a defense oriented tank with decent dps . Note however that as far as damage, Ranged DPS or DPS classes in general will always outdamage committed Tanks who set the meter for how much normal damage currently is. And that supports will usually look really good on paper but experiences fall off due to use numbers. As well, more data is needed to get a good feel on the classes and see what niche they can fall into. And lastly I included the gear allowances for SM who share a similar concept with Warriors in that they can equip standard weaponry but also their variants. These aren't supposed to be big changes but its a treatment for classes who were worked on the earliest and has since been outpaced by its counterparts during the design phase. > Equipment changes maybe reflected immediately < > I return to sleep, perhaps.
>>1693435 I'm still loosely pondering it but I think Rabbit has given fairly thorough and good feedback. I just wanted to post that the Character Creation Sheet still needs a few corrections. I'm not sure if the ones I'm about to mention has been covered in a previous post by others but there's an issue where the math for Warrior Flank Defense comes out to be 3 but the write up in their entry says it's 6. There may be others where the math isn't adding up. The SP entries for The Knee and Hurl have gone missing. The skills/abilities with no explanation like the SM/K is found in other classes and it would be great if those were given. If it's typed up and posted here, I'll look into producing either an image file or a pdf and post it.

>>1693117Most of my general feedback is going to have to wait until we see a level or two, but I do have a few questions, and a few points.Right now, Magi seem like one-trick ponies (part of why I want to see more levels), casting bang with an element. >Aerias- Rending winds deal force damage, or create cyclones.I've tried to see if there was any notable difference between casting rending winds vs cyclones, and didn't see any. Am I doing it wrong, or is it merely discriptive?>RuneCan Magi only draw runes of known elements, or are all four options viable? Can a rune be attuned to multiple elements? Can runes be used by anyone with the skills to do so?>II Aer Mana can Boost RangeIs this only for the caster, or can it be used to boost range for anyone?Related note, can first-tier elemental magicks be used safely on allies (Aer to push, Aquas to cleanse, Terras to lift or defend, etc.)? If so, can we get a quick rundown on how?Having fun so far, let's see if we can live through to the dawn!
>>1693948Winds - ball vs aoe.
>>1693955That can't be right. It implies that ball and aoe are the only shapes aer can be formed into. I'm a smarter frog than to believe that.
>>1693948>>1694005"As far as I understand it your rending winds can push enemies and allies alike, though upon collision with an object both will take damage appropriate to their defenses, reduced by how far the target is moved. This is characteristic of Force Damage. With some creativity you can even toss enemies directly up into the air, having them come crashing down from the subsequent fall. Your cyclone on the other hand deals direct damage at the point of cast with no knockback. Expanding the area of effect merely causes whatever option you choose to cover a wider area, though it may come at the cost of reduced Potency. I've not quite figured that one out just yet."
>>1694005With the rune your froggishness can draw and the spells cast from it? YesWith study? The possibilities are larger
>>1693948>>1694005>>1694012"Effectively, each element currently has two casting modes: projection directly from the caster to the target, or projection directly from the tile itself. This is why Terras mages can call forth stone crags from beneath enemies, Aquas mages can cause floods and geysers from a distance, and Firas mages can combust the aer around a target.""As for runes, for now they may gather any elemental mana that is reasonable for the tile they are placed on, but they may only gather one mana and one type of mana per turn. Further, they do not 'stock' gathered mana either; excess mana from a rune that is not used dissipates into the aether, and is replaced by one fresh mana on the following turn.""Mmm, as for higher levels of elemental magics, their exact effects will have to be tried and tested in the field."
>>1693948A persisting cyclone is possible through a rune, also unlike a ball, will spin the opponnent in place to a random direction rather than repel. Aer Ball - Repels a opponnent towards an angle they're hit from. If they crash into an object, the force damage causes physical harm based on direction. If they meet a surface diagonally , they will bounce. Expanded Ball / Cyclone - This will create either a bigger repulsion blast or a spinning rend. A counter clockwise cyclone will spin 90degrees targets in place. Depending on their relative position they may spin counter clockwise or clockwise. Aer as Runes- Rising Cyclone, or Invisible WallAer as a rune has more uses. Due to its placement below targets can send them upwards. If overwatched on a running target sends them upwards and forwards. Force damage will apply as fall damage. Repelling Walls must be placed on the vertical side of a wall instead of a floor, this is known to create a repelling gale that will push any target back. Beware cliffs with runes.Tettragram- The point between 4 runes can also -... Hm.. odd my notes stop here.

Either archer is a good target for brother Bloom, though I prefer the small one since it's threatening our healer and there's a chance of taking it out this turn. The uncertainty of who'll have the big one's aggro next turn is enough to make me consider it, but I don't think it's realistic to expect it to be die soon.Ryozo, if you're willing to risk it, you can keep tempting the big archer either at the corner 2W or from SE of the orc corpse. >>1698770Is is worth aggroing the big skelly, or should we focus on mopping up the smaller monsters?
Due to Windy conditions, one slime is likely dead. Also due to Wind, I don't want anyone standing in Sorrel's line of fire. There's no danger of friendly fire on allies you're adjacent to, though, so Lammergeier doesn't need to be too cautious in his attacks. So, this starts off with Luka. If her Last Rites hit both times and one's a crit, that skelly's dealt with. Then, if willing to risk it, Ryozo and Armstrong can move up and slap a Last Rites on the big archer. If unsuccessful or not wanting to risk it, Ryozo supplements attacks/Rites as needed, and Armstrong and Lammergeier work on the other slime. The northern group should be dealt with in two turns' time.
>>1698930Out, I think, so you have a wall to squish them against.>>1698922Thanks.
>>1699043Noone standing in my line of fire? Hey I'm cursed, not blind!
>>1699074The difference can be scant. Plus, due to Wind, you have a 1/5 chance of friendly fire.

Hetros, you might consider slapping Rites on that skelejelly. There's a chance it'll lose some of what's giving it structure. >Regarding risk calculationsI mentioned "expected value" earlier, so I should explain it and its utility here. Expected Value is the average result of any probability; repeat a probability many times, and the average of the results will hover around the expected value. We'll be repeating a lot of probabilities ourselves, gods willing, so expected value is helpful as a measure of damage per round.Under current roll rules, attacks have an expected value of 80% of their written value, before target's defense is applied. In other words, your damage output over the course of 10 attacks is equivalent to hitting for normal damage 8 times. This tends to better inform initial assessments of battles expected to last a number of rounds. In such cases, it can help determine if the damage sources available have a chance of dealing enough damage within a give amount of time. It does not predict turn-to-turn uncertainty as well, but is still somewhat applicable.

Okay. Okay. Preliminary assessment: Shrinefolk and Rabbit on the skelly, preliminary damage possible by LC 2 and 3. Taking a closer look now.
((Could a Shrineperson kindly give me proper healing? Perhaps not Luka, however. If Luka could complete the Triagram and deliver an AoE Rite on the Giant Skeleton, that is 4 hits against it in an element it is weak to. I would recommend that everyone stay out of the AoE though, because having your soul be vacuumed by the Pearly Gates isn't the most pleasant experience sometimes.))

Incomplete, but I want to get discussion started. I'm putting my Firebrandy on one of our Shrinefolks, which will improve their POT and DMG by 6. Short term, this opens the possibility of taking out skelly with a crit and regular Rites. Longer term, it improves the either the healing or the blessed strikes we receive inside the Trigram we'll eventually have set up. The Trigram is not a priority this turn unless it can be completed by a spell casting.Killing skelly gets Perovskia in range to buy us some time with a wallslam. There have been certain consistencies in mechanics through the skirmishes run by this author and I'm quite positive this one is one of them. A past example would be Floors where an spell with piercing qualities was fired at a large monster that took up multiple squares. The spell did damage for each square the spell penetrated into it. I don't know if anyone missed my mention of the Triagram and the 4 hits earlier but I guess it did. I was hoping it would be acted on though.))
