. New players are always welcome!

In this quest you assume the role of an aspiring student who is about to enter the Mageknight Academy. You must hone your skills, make some friends (and perhaps also some enemies) and fight battles in order to prove yourself worthy of graduating as a fully fledged Mageknight! Each year (every 100th turn) your character will be tested by the academy to see if your character is progressing well and meeting the Academy's high standards. After the 3rd year your character will head off into a their first mission for a final test.

How to Join:
New players must fill out their character sheets. The sheet must include the following information:
>Anyone can join at any time. Latecomers and laggers are given bonus action points to catch up with the other players.
1) Your character's full name
2) Your character's backstory, appearance and any other useful information.
3) You are given 3 Skill Points. Choose 1 starting spell and 2 other skills or spells.

How to Play:
1) Each turn you will be given 2 [Action Points]. Post your character sheet and your chosen actions along with a 2d100 roll.
>Normally your roll must pass the [Difficulty Challenge] of 25 in order to succeed.
>Getting a 10 and below is a [Critical Failure] while 91 and above is a [Critical Success]
2) All players must wait for the "TURN GO" post before submitting any actions posts. After which you must post your actions only to that post.
3) After all actions are processed and a new turn begins, update your character sheet.

Acquiring and Improving Spells & Skills:
1) Study, research, explore, train or take classes to discover and learn new spells.
2) Training an already learned spell or skill will raise it further to the next tier once enough [Progress Points] are accumulated.
4) The progress threshold is based on the Fibonacci sequence (1,2,3,5,8,...)
>Usually Spell and Skill tiers are named as Basic => Intermediate => Advanced => Expert => Master
>Alternatively you can label the tiers as T1, T2, T3 and so on.
>Passing the 1st year exams unlock Tier 6 to 10; 2nd year exams unlock Tier 11 to 15
>Progress threshold needed for the 6th tier and above becomes a stable 10 points.

Spellcrafting:
Spellcrafting involves fusing spells with various skills, knowledge and even other spells that your character has learned together creating a new spell or skill.
>The name of the resulting new spell will be determined by the QM. By default it will be "Cast A B C..."
>Your dice roll will affect the result of the spellcrafting. Lower rolls will result in weaker or negative version of the intended spell and vice versa.

Social Interactions:
1) Role playing with other players is a free action. Role playing with NPCs, however, will cost an action point to do so.
2) Collaborative Player-to-Player actions like trading, tutoring and PvP, will cost an action point to do so.

Combat:
1) The battle starts with an initiative roll by each player. This tells the order of the actions of each player in the round. The initiative roll also resets every round and a new initiative roll will be needed every turn
2)The next phase is the attack, where the player with the highest initiative roll gets the chance to take an attack action. The player he attacks can also take a reaction and attempt to block, dodge or even counter attack with a spell or skill.
3)To land an attack, the attack roll must be higher than the defense roll. After landing a hit, The damage is calculated with relevant skills and traits using a 1d(1+ modifiers) roll.
4)This continues as everyone gets a chance to attack, resetting the round and this will be done until a player gets downed.

Live Action Mode, sometimes shortened as LAM, is a special mode where the PC posts a single action outside of the Turn actions; ASAP a QM will process the Live Action Turn and then the PC can post another action.

In Live Action Mode, it is assumed that a turn of Live Action is equivalent to a 1 hour action, compared to the a Turn action (That takes around 3 to 4 days.)

Also, as a New Player you get 20 double turns, where you can post up to 4 action per turn (compared to the normal 2 you normally get.)

You're free to think whatever you like. I will admit that we honestly didn't think you would return, since you were gone for several threads, and since you had not joined our Discord. In fact, I would go as far to say that as soon as you disappeared, we wanted to resolve that action as soon as possible. I will not however, say that railroading happened to further our own agenda. We gain absolutely nothing from resolving your plotline, whether it be mechanically or otherwise. My honest opinion is that that you guys really

As the QM who handled your action with Kassandra:

1) There was no railroading or prepared story behind the action of Kassandra. Your "hunt for ladies" action was fuzz and we thought the best idea to make it more to your like it was to put it in Live Action (a time sensitive fast paced mode) so you could control your actions better and the result be more to your likelihood. As a reminder, this was setup in Thread #16 on June 29th.

2) Player actions are somewhat likely to have an impact in the world inhabited by the NPCs you interact with. In this case, you action had a reaction and everyone can join in. As a player in this setting you are not isolated from the rest of the Faculty or NPC Students.

3) There's not a preplanned story for anything. The only exception could be the OVAs, but those are more like preplanned settings for players to interact and explore with and not preplanned plot lines.

3) This is nothing personal, but just a bit of frustration. We cannot help you, if you don't want to help us to help you. If you know you'll be going for a month, at least let us know in-thread. Sure, maybe Discord isn't your thing, but at least there you can have access to theory-crafting, or direct talk with the rest of the QM team about what do you expect about your character development.

4) It's not a bait-and-switch. Actions and turns are processed in-thread. But all the shitposting, theory crafting, memeing, and off-topic is handled in-discord.

5) We are also playing and QM'ing this in our own free-time and this isn't a second job for us (even if it feels like one). Processing up to 15+ player actions each turn, amounts to around 15,000 words per turn. (Or around 22 pages (US-Letter) of Arial 10 text)

Using a metric from NaNoWriMo (Nationality Novel Writing Month) they expect you to write up to 1,500 words per DAY. And that's with a preplanned plot. We are running a Complete Freeform Multicharacter (26, to be exact) Quest and we have to wing it almost every week for updates. That's why player communication is so important and vital for us. We cater to our players and if you can't even be hassled to use the built-in thread watcher, search in the catalog once in a while and post saying that you'll be gone for a while, the least we can do is create a subplot out of it to see if someone reacts.

6) If we knew what we wanted from this quest, we wouldn't be running it as a multi character, multiple QMs quest.

For those following the story, two weeks ago Kassandra’s roommate reported her missing a few days ago after she noticed that she didn’t come back to her room after a long session of studying in the Academy Library. Her roommate stated that she was working on the research of a new alchemical formula so she has been pretty busy studying. Athena, the librarian golem, reports that she saw Kassandra leaving at the closing time of the library. Kassandra Silvestri is a prodigy student, by the age of 16 she won the National Alchemy Contest and got the Coughlan Scholarship to attend the Mageknight Academy of Madrid.

How you do that, he doesn’t really go over but it is very interesting to say in the least.

“Why are we still here? Just to suffer?” You say this to yourself every night, trying to sleep off the pain. Not only the physical pain, but the pain in your heart caused by the guilt. Oh, the guilt. There’s no way to turn back in time, no way to undo the actions that have passed, no way take back what you said. Oh no, you shed a single tear as the full moon rises over the Academy. You see this through the window of the Clinic. The shining light from the moon fills the small room you are in, but it is nowhere near enough to illuminate the darkness that lingers in your heart. You still wonder how could this have gone different? How could this have had a better outcome? When everything went so wrong?

You meet with Tana at the usual spot: the fountain. That same fountain that has been witness of endless kisses and friendships through the decades the Academy has been in place. The plan was plain and simple: a picnic in the library rooftop. You brought a basket, some sandwiches and fresh lemonade. Everything was going perfectly to the plan. The sun was shining, bright as ever, the butterflies were looking for nectar in the nearby flowers and the bees buzzed away. You lean in for a kiss. Pain. All you can feel is pain. You feel the cold metal striking your cheeks. You feel the warmness of the open flame. You see as the world around you spins. You feel your teeth strike the brickwork of the building. And lastly you feel the wind in your hair as you fall. Splat. The bushes made this fall a soft landing.

The stage is now clear - with the weaker thralls gone and the people having quickly fled the club, it was just you and her.

Later that day, when you picked her up, you found her talking with a few other kids. She happily wove them goodbye as you eventually took her with you back home, and on the way there, she told you how it had gone well. She had made a few friends and while she still didn’t understand quite a slew of things of school, the teachers had been very helpful. It had gone well.

After the ritual, your magic and instruments coalesce to materialize a new spirit in an explosion of red smoke. Given that you were mostly going by heart and there wasn’t much actual deliberate finess, you couldn’t really tell what you had created. You’re not even sure what the spirit’s affinity is - but you feel something… special about it. It’s like a well of untapped power, just waiting to be used.

It stood there, next to you, as the smoke subsided. It looked like a large, knight-like creature. In the knight’s hands is a staff with a tip that resembles outstretched wings, clearly magical in nature. The spirit’s armor is a dull grey with a regal purple trim. It almost seemed more like an armored set of mage robes than full plate armor. It’s taller than you by about a foot. It seems to have a bird and feather motif; for example, instead of a cape, it has a pair of vestigial wings that droop all the way to the floor. His helm resembles the visage of a bird of prey. When you call its attention, it didn’t move. Then, it gently turned to look at you, and then it turned back, to continue standing completely still.

Days passed, and it *continued* to stand still, there, in your room. It didn’t react much to anything either, mostly just giving it a glance to ignore it later. This is peculiar. Most artificial spirits don’t act this way, especially ones as powerful as this one, since they usually have free thought. You think you did something wrong and prepare to banish it, but it finally speaks up.

“...Father?” His voice is deep, but carries a certain degree of command. It seems he just doesn’t talk much. “I… Protect.” He says slowly and clearly, confidence evident in it's tone. “Protect… you?” The knight kneels in front of you as Red hides behind the furniture. “...protect sister?” The Light Spirit hides behind the bed some more, frightened by the appearance of this intimidating man. That’s when he looks to you, and while he doesn’t say anything, he looks to you, as if asking for permission.

Following Francis is an easy enough task. You watch him from a distance, tailing him under the cover of night. He almost seems to meld into the shadows, but that doesn’t seem to be of his own influence, and rather, it’s probably his affinity to the darkness element. Francis calmly walks down the paths, eventually making his way to… the HEMA clubroom?

The HEMA club is dark, illuminated only by a couple of exterior lights. You watch him drop it off to another man you can’t quite recognize. He then closes the door, and Francis walks away. When you move to open the door, you find that it's locked. Damn. Well, no way around that other than picking the door, and you’re not quite trained to deal with magical locks. You make a swift and stealthy retreat to Dermot’s office in the Witch’s Cauldron.

You give Dermot the info, making sure to keep vague information on Eliza’s whereabouts. Dermot subtly tries that eye thing again, but your Ring of Nondetection holds strong. He seems particularly interested when you talk about how Francis dropped off a package at the HEMA Club at night. The man looks satisfied with your info and shakes your hand. “Nice job, Rook. You can find the boss at the Madrid Disciplinary Committee. She usually hangs around there at night. Tell her I sent you.” Dermot says before cutting you a sharp glance. “Don’t embarrass me, aight?”

You begin looking for information about the Cursed Blade. It’s hard to find… any information on the internet other than legends and conspiracy theories, so you retreat to the school’s library. Tucked away in the corner of the magical repository is some… troubling information. As it turns out, this blade is no run-of-the-mill cursed blade. This is Oblivion, the Blade of Desolation. This sword is one of seven other weapons that when brought together, will bring about the end of the world. Rumored to be created with the raw essence of the void, this blade’s purpose is simple: to destroy.

To make matters worse, within each weapon is a powerful spirit of destruction. This spirit is mostly confined within the blade, but it can influence its bearer. Some scholars speculate that each ‘spirit’ is actually a fragment of a dead god. This is why when all seven weapons are brought together, the world would end. You even read about some startling rumors. That if you die, the spirit takes control of your body and puppets it, using it to it's own agenda. The implications of this information are horrifying.

Wait a minute, this seems too familiar. It’s that hooded man! The same guy who dropped this cursed blade off on you! Oh, the gall he’s got. He’ll pay for that tenfold, and that’s not just the spirit talking. You’re overcome with bloodlust that is not your own. You draw your blade and charge at the Shady Dealer. The man sidesteps your attack before sending you crashing to the ground with an elbow to your gut, and a heavy fist right across the side of your face.

“I didn’t think I’d find you again so soon.” He says as he puts a foot on your chest. This pressure… it’s immense! You can’t move your body… The man chuckles as you attempt to struggle under his boot. “So, a metal that can reflect attacks, hm?” He leans in close as he reaches into his pocket. “I can definitely help you with that.” The Shady Dealer uncorks a small vial, filled with a silver substance. It’s almost like mercury… at least until it starts moving.

The man leans down and places it on the ground next to you.The silver ooze uses its pseudopods to inch its way towards your arm. The Shady Dealer laughs as the thing forms a point, stabbing into your left forearm’s artery. The pain is sharp and sudden, causing you to cry out in pain. You only get to do so for a moment, before the man stomps on your gut, knocking the wind out of you. It takes all your willpower not to vomit. With that, the man gets up, chuckling as he leaves you alone in the alley. “I look forward to seeing your progress, Mister Lawrence.” You look down at your arm and see a plain yet elegant silver bracelet attached to your forearm. When you try to take it off, you feel a sharp pain race up your body. It seems you won’t be able to take this thing off for a while.

In a flash of inspiration, you manage to design a [You Insert Name Here] scheduling design, inspired by the pathways that bacteria take when it came to attacking a host. Such a scheduling design is quite more effective for treating several cases which require similar treatment, but is twice as slow as the conventional way of doing it when there are several cases which require different treatments.

You currently only have a draft of the idea, and it’s currently not yet in a useable state. But it’s a sound blueprint, as a T2 entity.

The game ends, and she thanks you, saying that this was fun.

The instructor gives you guidelines to follow. Akimbo firearms will already reduce your aim by a lot, so he gets rid of your bad habits. Firing in short bursts will keep your recoil from being too powerful to handle.

With a list in your head about the things you need you head into the Swimwear store. While you were inside you see a cute redhead girl trying to choose between a red bathing suit and a yellow one. You tell that to Stephanie and she says that you should go and tell her. And you do so. As the small talk goes on you discover that this girls is also enrolled into the Mageknight Academy of Madrid. After buying your swimsuit, you decide to let this girl tag along since you are buying the same stuff anyways.

You spend the better part of a year(and maybe even more) training yourself. Running mile after mile in different environments, sprinting down the track with weights, and endurance running to maintain high speed. You even work with Grace, freerunning along the rooftops of Madrid. It’s one hell of a training regimen. By the end of it, you’re definitely certain that very few students at your level can keep up with your speed.

Of course, that’s not to say that you didn’t spend some time off. In that time, you prowled the streets and female dormitories under the cover of darkness. You learned to hide your presence to the point that even magic has a difficult time locating you. Only the sharpest eyes could spot you.

Last, but not least, you spend a lot of time with Grace. On the rooftops, it’s hard to keep up with her, even with your level of speed. What she may lack in raw speed, she makes up for with an expert agility, and a familiarity of the concrete jungle that she traverses everyday. You two even hit it off, having entered a serious(but not too serious) relationship together. It’s great.

One day though, she just disappears. Gone without a trace, a lead, or anything. Whenever you call her cell, you get no response, and when you ask Helen, you find out that she’s just as confused as you are. You check her typical haunts and even go around the school, but all you’re able to find is a scrap of her scarf on one of the rooftops.

"My name is Markus Milton." He answered, while prepping more pain relief herbs. "I remember seeing you around the Amsterdam campus while I studied under Healer Gunther."

"Rest easy, I'll take care of the lipstick. Your wounds and bandages are fresh, you don't need to injure yourself more." With that Markus went and retrieved a warm wet cloth to clean the stains from the young knight's face. "I worry about the frequency I find you at the mercy of the wilds while you're unconscious."

Having being mentioned known in the martial department an idea comes to her to finally gain more friends and contacts. "It really is good to know that I have a reputation in the Martial Arts club. I've spent a ton of time and sparred with different people there. Maybe we can spar sometime then?"

He looked towards Dania and set down his 18-pack of beer on the table. "Ah, the Grimwoods Expedition. It sure was something." Ean said to her. "Angelica got afflicted by the corruption early on, but boy did she bounce back. Brought forth an army, too." The Nature Mage scratched the back of his neck. "We left them with the outpost, and then moved on to clear the lake of the corruption." He looked away for a moment. "I've never liked tentacles. So when we saw three huge ones pop out of the water, I knew I had to cut them up." Ean reached for a beer, cracking open a cold one and drinking from it. "In the end, Caiden's spider tank sustained the bulk of the damage, and we cleared the place enough for the rest of the guys to come in. Everything else followed." He declared, taking a swig from his can of beer. "I can tell you more details some other times, but for now, feel free to help yourselves to the beer."
