Hey guys! Lets get into it!
>>
>>1701649
Damn it shmeh, you're suppose to be dead!
>>
Is it time for adventure already?
>>
>>1701649
The voyage to Johan's is relatively uneventful, you are even able to get a good night's sleep in without the distractions that come with governing a burgeoning world in the Imperium...

As you approach his space station, you can see from the outside that he has upgraded it and expanded it, a large lance battery, visibly seen tracking your cruisers approach to the station.....

You are hailed over the vox, as Johan greets you and tells you hes happy to see you since its been a few year since you last spent time together.....

You step into the airlock as you hear the boarding clamps lock, and see the station doors open to reveal, a smiling Johan and a few of his servants...

Johan shakes your hand, "Maxi! how are you? Its been too long? Did you receive that bottle of Farnessian black wine I sent you last year for your birthday?" "No?" "I will have another one sent back with you, Giles has some answering to do...."

The conversation quickly shifts to small talk, prominent single women in the sector, and fine alcohols, a favorite topic of Johan's, who is quite the lush...

A. Shift the conversation to business, as your time is limited, but there is much gain to be had through economic cooperation between our worlds
B. Shift the topic to the Alchemist investigation
C. Keep up the small talk

You decide to shift the topic over to business, as you look over the horizon of his planet, seeing what appears to be some sort of supply shuttle hauling things back and forth from the surface to the space station..

He tells you about the ceramite business, and how the Forge World has been a great buyer as always, but he has recently been approached by a Rogue Trader named Tzavaras who seemed very interested in acquiring large quantities of ceramite, which while it is incredibly useful for the manufacture of arms and armor has limited trading value, as there are few buyers that can make use of such a material...

You introduce Johan to some of your administration people, who get a brief tour of the station and will be getting a tour of the production facilities with you tomorrow.

You have more than a few drinks as you talk business, and talk to Johan about your ambitions to build a great shipyard someday over Tarkon IV, and how the ships built there could be clad in armor made of his ceramite....

As you are talking business, he begins acting awkward when he asks if you could sell him some Frenzon, in quantities well below the amount used for industrial purposes, his intention becomes clear and your press him on it...

He tells you how he can't seem to shake his dependency on the drug, how he feels weak, tired and depressed all the time without it, and that he has been buying an old man, who claims to be a chemist and trader in the region, that matches the description of the alchemist perfectly....

He tells you he originally got into the drug, over a decade ago, when it was first sold to him at a party for young nobles on the spires of one of the great hiveworlds of the sector, and that it seemed to pump everyone up, and induce them to pursue greater amounts of joy and pleasure.... The party morphing from heavy drinking to a wild orgy, after the nobles finished with the frenzon....

A. Tell him you can provide him the drugs
B. Tell him to shake it off, you need a responsible and stable business partner and potential ally

You decide to provide him the drugs but you want to know more about the old man who was selling it to him

Johan, clearly not understanding the magnitude of the issue, readily describes the man, as well spoken for a commoner, and that he had a strange tatoo on his hands

He also seemed to make an appearance at parties where influential young nobility from the sector will be attending, thats where Johan would expect to see him next, but the next big ball is a few months away, and he cant wait that long to get his fix....

You have a few more drinks, before settling in for the night, with a pretty native girl he had brought in for you....

You awaken in the morning mildly hungover but make it to a quick breakfast with Johan before going down to the planet...

You fly over his mines, and several large farm estates on the surface, including one with a large barren patch where its fields should be...

You ask him what happened and he claims that tried to grow their own frenzon, but the plants couldnt handle the planets climate, much to your chagrin...

At least the wine from his planet is good, you think as you settle in one of the comfortable manors on the farm estates for the night...

Your sleep is continously disrupted by the sounds of celebration outside, and look outside towards the nearby town to see some kind of festival underway.

When you ask Johan about it, he tells you that on advice from some of his local leaders, that they should hold weekly celebrations, for the god emperor, and the local god, a spirit representing good harvests, drinking, and fornication....

Apparently the festivals have some strange rituals he preferred not to go into and tend to go on late into the evening....

You take note of what youve seen, and retire to your bed for the night....

You leave some of your diplomats and government officials to help make more deals and keep an eye on Johan and his peoples more interesting diversions....

While dissapointed that you dont have much on the Alchemist at least you have a strong lead now, since he is likely to appear at balls and parties, selling drugs to the young nobility, influencing the future leaders of the sector....

The trip back is relatively uneventful as well, and you get reports that the Hecate cruiser is finally repaired and ready for action, and that your pilots have already started training under Luna Wolf pilots in carrier operations and attacks on enemy fighters and capital ships....

Xeroth says that things are going well with the other lunar cruiser as well that it should be ready in less than 3 months time...

He presents you with some options for another major project on the surface of Tarkon IV...

A. Expanding our manufactory, the farming and mining equipment it makes will be a useful export to the primitive and undeveloped worlds of the sector
B. Expanding the gold mines, valuable for their currency value and use in electronics
C. An analysis of the soil in the jungle leads our people to believe that is extremely fertile, clearing the jungle and planting there, would likely be extremely agriculturally productive

You decide to launch a jungle clearance operation, with a large scale controlled burn, of a jungle covered area, with a large freshwater lake nearby, great for putting out the fire and for irrigation for the crops later....

What should we focus on growing here?

A. Tallassian blood grapes, for the production of Tallassian blood wine, however we have a yield sharing arrangement with Tzavaras where he takes 40% of the yieldsin exchange for providing us with the original seeds for the valuable trade good, however Talassian blood wine is some of the best, especially when its well aged, a crowd please for sure
B. Food, a combination of rice, corn, beans and wheat, all genetically modified, highly productive, clearing the whole jungle and planting food would probably make us be able to compete to be breadbasket of the sub-sector, with another developed world and a small agri-world as our only competition
C. Frenzine, a valuable drug and cash crop, used in the production of Frenzon, a popular and effective combat drug used by Imperial organizations to temporarily induce the user into various mental states, most commonly used to induce combat troops into a raging frenzy, temporarily also increasing their strength and energy, at the cost of the troops being less responsive to orders, also good for interrogations and recreational use.....

You break a bottle of fine Karolian wine over the bow of the newly christened Absolution, our very own Hecate-class cruiser, the ancient tradition done for luck and for safety for the new vessel in the unforgiving and mighty seas of holiest Terra, the people of the Imperium continue this practice, for protection from the God Emperor as mankind's ships explore the deepest darkness of space and brave the whirling tides of the warp itself....

Their is a great clamor on the docks as our naval officers and crewmen break open bottle after bottle of Rorschan highland whiskey, and Karolian champagne among other fine drinks in a lively celebration going into the evening...

You decide to grow food products on the new cleared patch, its dark black soil, deeply rich in nutrients and minerals needed for plant life to bloom....

Between our fertile land and industrial harvesters and tractors, we should be able to outproduce most of the sub-sector in food, making far more than our population could consume , and make it a major export, especially valuable in times of danger and dark uncertainty

You are doing your monthly scheduled shooting practice, when you are shaken by the sudden blaring of alarms, as you unload your bolt-pistol and holster it before running to the command center and taking your position on your throne/command chair...

You are brief by the officer operating the Augur, Lieutenant Something-or-other, you make a note to try to remember his name in the future, as he has proven competent and cool under pressure in the last the last few space battles....

He tells you, pointing to his screen than the pictgraph projection on the main viewscreen, showing a distant object, as the Lieutenant informs you an Astartes Strike Cruiser has exited the rift and is approaching the station at high speed....

You recall, the Edge of Tomorrow and the Absolution which are on patrol, to return to the station to regroup our system fleet....

All vox communications have been ignored by the Strike Cruiser, its white and gold finish now visible, the side of the vessel, reading Righteous Fury, a vessel logged as belonging to the Crusaders of Dorn as well as being missing....

A. Continue trying to hail the vessel

No warning shots! If they break protocol by flying on what looks like an attack run, without declaring intentions or confirming their identity its their sole fault. For all we know the vessel was taken by traitors and is being use a battering ram/Trojan horse.

You continue to try to hail the Strike Cruiser, when they come into more detailed sensor range, you show that the ship is using a low amount of power, and it seems that is damaged

But they seem to not be stopping although you put multiple ships on a clear intercept path in front of your station, forcing you to order the Edge of Tomorrow to fire a warning shot across her bow....

The ship keeps coming, you are about to give orders to fire on the unresponsive Astartes craft, when you the command center alarm starts blaring again, and the Augur officer reports two more contacts coming out of the rift....

It takes over 3 seconds for the first contact to fully transition into real space, its scans matching the design of an ancient Gloriana class Battlebarge

It is accompanied by a Mars class cruiser. After exiting into realspace, both ships start emitting terrible screaming noises and the laughter of madmen over the vox, punctuated by a terrifying voice mocking us for following the "corpse" Emperor... overloading all communications channels, for several minutes before jamming systems succesfully block the signals and they have begun shooting at the stricken Astartes craft

As they begin to approach the two ships are identified....

The Callidora, covered in sickle like fixtures and painted pink, its former owner is redacted from the files, but Shipmaster Harlan, communicates to you over the command channel, that he recognizes that ship as belonging to the third legion....

The Mars Class battlecruiser Chimera, is listed as missing during the Gothic wars, after a battle with a chaos warfleet

Our ships have successfully regrouped near the station and stand ready to fight....

Alright guys, thats all for tonight. Im planning my next session for Thursday from 8-11PM eastern time

I'll be honest, Not sure how we can make ANYBODY believe us and say 'oh ya, we stole this from heretics' and get to keep it. These things are beasts.
>>
>>1702670
Well, let's just cross that bridge when we get to it. I mean, come on anon, this is way too big of an opportunity to let go to waste. Hopefully we can keep it mostly intact, or worst case it's damaged but the frame is intact and Xeroth can repair it.
>>
>>1702690
I mean... the value of a captured one even damaged is astronomical, but... Where are we gonna pawn it off? Honestly keeping such a vessle as our 'prize' is too much. Are we on friendly terms with a space marine chapter of this time period? Also, what upgrades to the planet do we have again?
>>
>>1702708
Who said anything about pawning it off, Muh imperial we're keeping it. It's a legitimate spoil of war, assuming we don't blow it up obviously. or it doesn't blow us up, it IS a Gloriana class, this is going to be a tough fight if I remember correctly how tough these things are

>>
Guys, if I wanted to read all the 40k stuff, which books should I start with? Whats "the beginning" as far as the story and lore in concerned?
>>
>>1703489
ehh, just read the wiki.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page
>>
>>1703503
But... I'd rather read a book or several. I'm not entirely unfamiliar with the lore and this isn't my first 40k game but I want to read stuff and get a fuller understanding of everything whilst doing it
>>
>>1703489
I'm not sure about a book or anything. To begin with, the entire point of the lore is to explain the war game, so it's not like there's concrete stories to read that encompass the whole story. If you want to start somewhere though I'd go on the wiki and start reading othe the emperor of mankind, the great crusade, the golden age of man, the horus heresy, and the back story of the different armies including the various chaos forces, the necrons, the orcs, the eldar, the tau, and the terrineds. From there you can just read what you want and slowly build up the world for yourself. Once you feel pretty informed about the overall setting and the various factions and organizations in and out of the imperium, then I'd start reading books that you think will be interesting.
>>
>>1703512
Are you willing to shell out a few hundred bucks then? Or try and find some pirate links to PDFs.....

I'm just going to torrent them all.

probably the smart choice, there's quite a few.

>>1702652
Bit of meta here guys.....
I don't think its a Gloriana class. Either it was a slip up, or the officer doing the sensory reading got the call out got it wrong, and misclassified it.

There is only one ship in the 3rd legion that is Gloriana class, and its called the "Pride of the Emperor" and is the Capital ship of the traitor 3rd legion "Emperor's Children".

The first identified itself as "The Callidora" and is also classified as a battle barge like the Pride of the Emperor, but is not listed as a Gloriana class, the other ship I can't really find by name, so we will go with it being accurate since I doubt anyone would send two battle barges to attack a frontier world like this, without more ships to act as escorts.

Only 1 in possession of the 3rd legion

I think we can capture one of them. I suppose we should start by figuring out wtf is up with the Strike Cruiser and get a debrief with them, assuming they aren't a trick and are part of a chaos deception, in which case we are fudge Game Over.

The key would be drawing them close to our planet and get them to commence landing/invasion actions while the other ship provides cover, at this point we engage the ship providing cover with most of our navy and start boarding actions, knocking that ship out of the fight and try turning its weapons onto the other ship if possible.

If we go for the battlebarge first and manage to successfully take it out, the other ship MAY retreat if we are fortunate enough. But that is unlikely me thinks.

It will likely be the cruiser providing cover while the battlebarge does the "landings" so the battlebarge will likely have its attention divided between landing troops, protecting the landing troops, fighting a space battle, and trying to cover the other ship that is being boarded. It will provide a window of opportunity to engage the covering ship instead of two ships head on.
>>
>>1703820
It's simply unrealistic that they wouldn't slap our ships shit before doing any landings, and they'd have no problem doing so.
>>
Considering the sheer amount of warp fuckery bringing in soo many random ships lately I think we need to take another look at something that Shmeh suggested in one of the previous threads. I remember something about an enormous anti-ship weapon built on our planet and hidden away somehow. Enough firepower to shoot shit out of the skies easily and not so clear and obvious as to alert any enemies to their impending doom.

I think the main downside was positioning as it's obviously a fixed weapon based on the planet but it could be super useful in situations like these.
>>
>>1703884
I figure we'd end up trying anyways since some guys really want to capture the ships, and we seem to lack the firepower to outright beat them.

We'd have to pull back and play keep away to save our ships and engage at long very ranges. But yeah, I dunno aside from calling for help which I doubt will come in time there isn't much else we can do, better than no plan.

We may as well look into this.>>1703907
>>
>>1703925
To be fair my idea isn't helpful right now as we haven't built the super-weapon, it's just an idea for the future to give us an edge in this situations
>>
>>1703950
Well we can call for help and hope it comes in time, or try and do a daring raid and hope we get lucky. Wait, when we first discovered the marines taking refuge

Maybe the Strike Cruiser was part of a bigger group and the two enemy ships are heavily damaged.

Maybe Corean can send help. If I recall, when some ships showed up looking for our space marines, he sent a responding force of inquisition ships. Maybe they are nearby and can help.
>>
>>1704143
Well chaos, so the inquistor is probably a good option, though we might not get to keep the ship. Though considering Gloriana class ships were given to primarchs and could take on planets, this might be a bullet we have to bite. Too bad we couldn't have had our pseudo-marines army prepped first. Really regretting not giving Gideon the ok the first time he asked. Of course all of this is moot considering we have to win before we can actually think about what to do with the ship.
>>
>>1704143
I really messed up that post. I need to stop posting late at night.
>>
>>1703820
To be fair, Chaos fleets do act seemingly random they seem to pop up almost anywhere with little to no warning.

Additionally, there is something seriously off with this sector. There usually is a reason for such widespread heresy.

I would heavily suspect a variety of Daemonic artifacts in this system, some possibly existing in your world too.
Eldar dickery might also be involved as well as thr possibility of archeoxenon artifacts belonging to the Saruthi, whom had an exceedingly great understanding of Chaos.
>>
>>1706389
Yeah we already know there are at least SOME deamonic artifacts being pulled from this sector with that planet with helped rescue so I wouldn't be shocked to find shit on our planet as well
>>
Btw, fun fact.
Because Warp is a place of infinite possibilities where time doesn't flow in any consistent manner, Chaos fleets are technically speaking endless, since worlds in the Eye of Terror can use infinite amount of time to prepare their fleets, provided their patron gods let them and they never run out of resources because Daemon Princes in possession of a Daemon world can alter them in any way they wish.

Of course, because time isn't exactly linear in the Warp, from their perspective, the Emperor is both alive and on the Throne at the same time.
While the Emperor's corporeal form may be at this moment in time trapped in the Throne, he still sort of exists in the Warp, both as his still living counterpart as well as the Astronomican beacon.

You can run into your past selves within the Warp after all.
This of course also applies to every other being in the warp as well, which sort of makes it a confusing clusterfuck.

But yea, as far as the Warp is concerned, Emperor both is and isn't stuck on the Throne.
>>
From my understanding, the concept of trying to kill Chaos gods through lack of belief wouldn't actually have killed them, it would merely have made them irrelevant in our timeline of the Materium.

Chaos gods can still feed from the other timelines where they exist in, meaning that in order to kill Chaos gods truely, it is necessary to gain enough power to remove Chaos taint on multiple timelines at the same time.
>>
You need not fear that Chaos will increase it's influence by invading other timelines, because in the warp that both has and hasn't happened, so the Chaos Gods as transtemporal beings more or less are as powerful as they are going to get.
>>
Yeah, I think their powers are "whatever suits are plottiness or lack-of at the time." Don't look for logic and reason in Chaos.

Ba-dum-tish
>>
We should build up two space marine chapters lol.
>>
>>1707438
We're basically creating our own space marines so building up the old chapters isn't too much of a stretch.
>>
>>1707438
>>1707503

We really need to increase our plain jane PDF divisions. We've got a couple precision tools, but we need some meat to back them up.
>>
>>1707526
Well I assume that's where the genetic upgrades come in. At most the imperium frowns on modified/upgraded soldiers, but as long as they don't find out about our personally made astartes we'll be good.
>>
>>1707526
Or hell, maybe we can end up replenishing the luna wolves loyalist remenants and end up making Tarkon IV an astartes homeworld, then we can get exempt from the tithe. Though that'll take a lot of work and politics, but it'd be more than worth the risk. We could also have the our two dark angels join the lunas and reform to make a whole new chapter, using the seeds from the angels, wolves, and chaos marines. Again, this will take a lot of work and long term planning and what we're doing will basically be super illegal until we get to the final stage, but if we succeed then We'll have built a truly important Colony. We'd have a new space marine chapter for the imperium, which is a god send, no tithes, the dark angels and their unforgiven chapters will have no choice but to leave us alone, without tithe we'll be able to build up our governy at a much faster rate, we can end up the bread basket and factory capitals of our sector, and SPACE MARINES. Space marines are cool.....
>>
>>1707531
No that's just making more time and resource intensive troops that won't be created in large quantities. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but we need some actual numbers in our armed forces in order to not only more adequately defend our planet and the industry on it, but to also be able to project our power which it seems is going to be something we are going to have to do sooner or later.

Consider the size of a planet, we have a few astartes, a number of elite troops, and a decent chunk of specialists. A potent strike force sure, but what of conducting and invasion? We'd have to put all our eggs in the basket leaving the homeworld vulnerable.

Defending against a proper invasion? We'd have to sacrifice parts of the planet in order to hold out much less conduct counter offenses.

Not saying that we should just go about conscripting every other swinging dick on the planet, but we only stand to gain by expanding our PDF, say perhaps even just creating reserve divisions, we need manpower.
>>
>>1707557
We could call a favor from the family and have them send us more hivescum, usually Hive worlds want to get rid of all of the extra population so we'd be doing our Father a favor more than anything, then we could just conscript and train as many soldiers as we can possibly equip and then send the rest on planet to settle. Alternatively, we could call in Tzavaras and looking into hiring more mercs with long term contracts or just see if he can send us tons of people willing to move to our planet and join our PDF. Maybe see about getting more special troops like more ogryns or maybe space marine outcasts. Maybe even an imperial knight that's willing to stay and protect our planet, or even start a new house here, probably not but you never know what rogue traders are capable of procuring and our rogue trader contact has shown to be extremely resourceful.

We already have people on our planet we can recruit, and perhaps making reserve troops out of them wouldn't affect our industry/agriculture sectors too much. Hiring more mercs might not hurt, but I think they'd be better as a supplement to our forces rather than the backbone.

We're already having enough issues with chaos taint and such, I don't know if more hive scum would necessarily be a good idea to bring in. Though if we were to settle another planet might not be a bad idea to make a space Australia out of it.

Your ships form up in a basic battle formation ahead of your station as the Astartes Strike cruiser changes course slightly, going past the planet, seemingly ignoring all else....

Meanwhile the plodding Battle Barge and Battlecruiser make their way towards Tarkon IV, their massive forms slowly taking up more and more of the viewscreen as they approach....

The good news is that Battle barges, even the venerable and legendary Gloriana class, is optimized for engaging ground defenses as opposed to ship-to-ship engagements, with the exception of boarding actions of course....

The bad news is that if it reaches the surface, any hope of a ground based defense is hopeless, against the undoubtedly large force of chaos marines carried in its holds...

The Mars class, appears to be optimized with heavy weapons for ship-to-ship combat, likely outfitted as independent raiding ship, intended to fight anything that it can keep up with, and run from anything it can't....

The Battlecruiser will likely be highly vulnerable to strike craft, given its armament, the Battle barge will be very difficult to seriously damage, given its heavy armor and multi-layered void shields....

Our 4 ships stand against the rising tide of chaos.....

What are your orders Governor?

A. Engage the Battlecruiser first, its the easier target
B. Engage the Battle Barge, it cannot be allowed to get close to the planet

You have the your ships spread out, to avoid missile barrages from the Battlecruiser, and begin attack approaches giving them an angle on the massive warship....

In the meantime, Absolution deploys its starwings, the Starhawks Bombers and Fury Fighters deploying from their hangars....

As they do the enemy responds, with both warships, deploying a squad of the infamous Swiftdeath fighter craft, fast, manueverable and heavily armed, compared to Imperial craft, but have little armor, and a relatively weak void shield, features that are considerably stronger on the Fury....

Your bombers begin a path towards the Battlecruiser

Our ships have spread out in a 4 corners formation, with the enemy Battlecruiser in the center, still approaching our ships from the front..

On the left flank, is the Wrath and Manachea, and the Redline, while the right has the Edge and the Absolution....

What shall we do with our fighters?

A. Intercept and engage one of the enemy fighter squadrons
B. Have them join the attack on the Battlecruiser
C. Have them hang back near the right flank
D. Have them hang back near the left flank

Your fighters, weave in and out of fire with the enemy squadron, shooting down 3 of the enemy, while losing 1 craft on our side....

With the last 2 chaos fighters badly outnumbered, they make a hasty retreat back to the berth of the Battle Barge....

In the meantime the rest of our ships have begun trading heavy fire with the Battlecruiser, as our bombers make their final approach....

Your ships, manage to do some void shield damage to the front and flanks of the Battlecruiser, from long range, but now are in optimal firing range for most of their weapons...

Average of 55, a mediocre outcome

Despite the lance fire and cyclonic torpedoes fired, it seems to not be doing enough damage,as the Battlecruiser shields are still up, and it has begun thrashing the Wrath of Manachea, which Harlan will have to pull out of the battle line if it takes much more, as its shields are down to 20%, and several of its weapon batteries have been knocked out...

In the meantime, the enemy fighters, have swarmed the redline, its weapons optimized for killing capital ships, with only a handful of point defense weapons to defend against the fighters, the corvette, experiencing a slow death of a thousands cuts, as each attack run by the fighters slowly overloads its void shields....

You bombers finally reach the terminal point of their approach and launched their payload, each firing 4 cyclonic torpedos at close range, almost impossible to shoot down or avoid....

average of 41 an unfavorable result....

The bombers payload strikes the enemy void shields, failing to penetrate and deal any kind of serious damage, although the shields seem to be failing now.....

Unfortunately the shields have begun to fail on Wrath of Manachea as well, and it has started to fall out of formation as any further intense fighting with critically damage the ship....

Absolution with its handful of weapons batteries and the Edge continue to fire on the Battlecruiser, in a desperate hope to at least damage it enough to scare it off....

Meanwhile the fighters have come to the Redlines aid, fighting off the enemy fighters but losing 2 more craft in the process, bringing our fury squadron down to 2 fighters. At least we pushed the back the enemy fighter craft....

Unfortunately Redline lost its shields and took some damage from the enemy fighter attack, our fighters intervening just in time, to save it from total destruction.....

The bombers return to the Absolution to rearm as the Battle Barge continues its plodding course towards Tarkon IV, it will soon be at the extreme range of the weapons on our space station....

With the Redline and Wrath out of the line, it leaves only Edge and Absolution to take the full punishment of a Battlecruiser and Battle Barges weapons....

Our ships continue firing on the Battlecruiser

Our Lunar class light cruiser, the Edge of Tomorrow, despite skilled helmsmanship and good shooting, is simply completely outclassed by the Battlecruiser, its shields dropping at a catastrophic rate....

The bombers are deployed once more, and are making their way towards the Battlecruiser for a second attack run....

The Absolution can move to block the fire, sparing the Edge, and risking itself, lacking as heavy of shields and armor as the Edge of Tomorrow

The first barrage of cyclonic torpedos overloads the void shield generator as the following 2 barrages follow it, rending a massive hole in the Battlecruisers hull, slowing it down and damaging its power, as corpses and debris are sucked out in to the vacuum, where they aimlessy float throughout the endless void....

You lucky fuckers, average of 52.5, the Edge wouldve died had you scored under 50

The Edge of Tomorrow barely limps out of range, after being hit by a round of lance fire, that penetrated the armor mere meters away from a major power core, critically damaged, the Edge is now mainly being guided by directional thrusters as the primary power is down, as as auxiliary power, and the ship is now relying on emergency power just to keep some lighting and the lifesupport active, but the crew will likely need to be rescued in the few hours if they hope to survive.....

The enemy Battle barge has waded into the space stations range, and continued its approach unabated, despite repeated heavy fire from the station, missiles, torpedos and lances constantly striking the massive Barges frontal armor to little avail....

You are suddenly alerted to a dozen contacts appearing at the edge of the System, most belonging to the Inquistion, their IFF systems immediately being recognized by the space station....

You identify a Victory-class battleship, leading a powerful armada, consisting of a Battlecruiser, , 1 heavy cruise,3 light cruisers, 10 escorts and 4 troop and supply ships....

Inquisitor Lord Corean's voice comes over the vox, a welcome relief, as he gives orders to his ships to surround the 2 enemy ships and hit them with everything they have...

The crippled battlecruiser is heavily battered, and totally disarmed, its mighty weapon batteries now little more than mangled metal clinging to its weakened frame

The Battlebarge is attempting to flee, in the sight of overwhelming force, and is projected to outrun the Inquisition fleet and succesfully enter the warp rift before the Inquisition fleet is in effective range....

You see the battle barge, take multiple strikes to its stern without missing a beat, its void shields holding strong against dozens of barrages of lance, torpedo and missile fire, even surviving a lucky nova cannon shot, from the Inquisition battleship....

It slowly but surely slips back into the warp, where no Imperial vessel dares to follow, as search and rescue operations are perfomed by Absolution and a few of our shuttles, evacuating the Edge of tomorrow, before towing back to the shipyard
>>
>>1710950
It doesnt take long for Corean tor request to land on the station, where he tells you how the Imperium has been rent by a massive warp rift and dangerous warpstorms, that he lost 2 ships to warpstorms just trying to here from Segmentum Solar...

He also tells you of wonderous news, that the Primarch Roboute Guilliman, has returned to deliver us from the evil of chaos, lead the Imperium to glory....

The Imperium is not going to be able to send aid to this region, due to the warp storms and a lack of resources, and Lord Inquisitor Corean has been given orders by the Inquisition to preserve this and the surrounding sectors at all costs....

We are expected to hold until the arrival of the Indomitus crusade, which may be several decades from now....

To this end he has been granted a small fleet and several regiments of Imperial Guard, as well as 2 warships of the Angels of Absolution, a known Dark Angels successor, who will be regrouping with the fleet shortly....

He tells you that he expects that you will be providing your full support for the effort of securing the region, and that our assistance will be required, and that a dozen Imperial Worlds have gone dark in the sector already, likely to chaos uprisings and must be taken back immediately....

Alright guys thats all I got for the night, should be able to run tomorrow night as well. Thanks for playing!

Corean and his forces move like a whirlwind, only staying in the Tarkon system for 2 solar days to take on provisions and to enact minor repairs before heading on to the Sector Capital, which apparently has recently gone dark as well....

Corean has given us 6 months to prepare for a major counter offensive, to reclaim the region, starting with securing the sector and moving out from there...

You have already starting by having the Edge of tomorrow and the crippled battlecruiser towed to the shipyards....

The Battlecruiser is in terrible shape, and may not even be worth trying to rebuild, its metal better serving as scrap to build new ships but your engineers will take a look at it for now and see what they can do, after they finish pulling all of the corpses out of it of course....

Unfortunately your preparation efforts have already gone awry, as two major noble houses on the surface who have been feuding for some time, have gone into full on war, both fielding small personal armies, armed mainly with the planets native steel armor and implements but with occasional smuggled lasgun or autogun....

Blood has been spilled and several small towns have already been sacked, their inhabitants enslaved or put to the sword by the victors....

Normally you might take a hands-off approach to the conflict but its disrupting our economic activity, as the region where the fighting is happening is an important source of manpower for our large farms and plantations, that even with our development of agricultural tools and some tractors, is still extremely laborious and takes a large amount of workers....

How shall we deal with this issue?

A. Crush the warring parties, while it may be bloody, the natives, already a martial culture will respect a warrior leader
B. Use your authority as High King to enact a truce and bring both parties to the table for negotiations
C. Allow the conflict to continue unabated

You crush the 2 small primitive armies with ease, the whole incident making for a nice live fire training excercise for your troops, where air strikes on the enemy force are followed by a multi faceted assault involving troops, airdropped and mechanized and armored forces surrounding the two armies compelling a quick surrender....

The two feuding families have been captured, and they are begging for your mercy, pledging greater tithes to you, and the highest degrees of loyalty....

A. Have them publically executed and seize their lands, either for yourself or to be distributed to loyal subjects, smuggling weapons and wars between your vassals is strictly forbidden

Sergeant Zachias is currently preparing a training curriculum to bring them up to speed, a skill he learned well during his compliance days in the Great Crusade....

Just as you resolve one crisis, another begins, with 3 contacts detected at the end of the system....

Their IFFs read as freighters, registered to independent traders....

They contact you and inform you that they are refugees fleeing the fighting in the sector and are looking for a safe harbor to rest and recover, apparently many of the refugees are hungry and are dealing with malnutrition and medical problems.....

You are finally able to get some sleep, when you are alerted again, another contact, this time the Astartes Strike Cruiser that escaped the warp earlier. >Eh. Space Marines are too OP if you ask me, and supposed to be quite rare yet they're all over and around our little backwater planet.
In this setting, OP is how you survive. You do remember the Gargantia class ship full of chaos marines that tried to invade right? Why not use a resource we can potentially expand on? It's a gamble, sure, a really risky one, but winners take risks and we haven't built up as much as we have from taking the straight path.
