Hey all, anyone feel like rolling up a new House using the SIFRP rules? New season of GoT just starting has me feeling like running something, maybe a quest.

Here's a .pdf collection of the core rulebook and Out of Strife, Prosperity, the most commonly used books for the /tg/ and /qst/ Houses that have come before.

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/6sar1o14399xv/SIFRP

There's also the homebrew stuff that The Father made for House Malroy Quest.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qm-psOSbKz_FbT9XpMXcNfwuOLmSRokmevgt9jkMVzo/edit?usp=sharing

Only thing that's different about this House Creation is it isn't going to be for a fully fledged Lordly House, rather it'll be for a Knightly House, think House Clegane. There's a few differences, you can see them on page 109 of A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying - A Game of Thrones Edition. And they'll come up while we're rolling.

First up is the starting Realm.

We can either roll for it, or if there is collective interest in a particular Realm we can just go with that.
>>
>>1705413
Oh and the roll for Realm is a 3d6.
>>
Rolled 5, 4, 1 = 10 (3d6)

>>1705413
This is always fun.
>>
Rolled 5, 1, 1 = 7 (3d6)

>>1705415
Are you going to make a quest with the new house?

I vote Reach, get that fertile ground
>>
>>1705447
>Wants the reach
>Rolls
>Gets the Iron Islands.

Truly Fate is whimsical today.
>>
>>1705454
Well Iron Islands we get them boats. Just take over a islands and with a mighty fleet we can stop anyone that dare to take us over.
>>
>>1705447
I'm hoping to. Been too long since we've had a GoT quest.

Anyway going to nix the roll for the Iron Islands, since that doesn't really work for a Knightly House.

Otherwise, we have a Vale roll, >>1705445. And a Reach vote. Any other opinions or we want to go with one of those?
>>
>>1705463
All the islands there are shit tier, I'm surprised they haven't stripped the place bear of all resources in the thousands of years they have lived there.
>>
>>1705468
That's why they always build ships to go raiding.
>>
>>1705464
Both have good Knight culture. My vote is for the Vale.
>>
Rolled 4, 4, 4 = 12 (3d6)

>>1705413
My vote goes for whatever I roll
>>
>>1705483
>>1705494

So two for the Vale.
And one a piece for Westerlands and Reach. All good places for a Knightly House.

Should we just go with the Vale and get this going?
>>
>>1705508

Yes!
>>
>>1705508
>Vale
The people of the Vale, popularly called "valemen", are known as honorable, reliable warriors steeped in honor and the worship of the Faith of the Seven.

noble families from the Vale are said to have among the purest Andal bloodlines within Westeros

>>1705508
I'll go with Vale, got to have that pure blood
>>
>>1705476
Except unless you do very strict management of lumber you'll run out of trees to make your boats, not to mention the many ships lost at sea or in war.
>>
>>1705524
Yup, that why I'm going with Vale. It seems like a hassle to use that lumber for boats that will just be destroy. Lumber is better use for bows, arrows, and houses.

Alright then, the Vale it is.

Your starting resources are in pic related.

So here's the first of the differences between Lord and Knight Houses. When rolling for starting House resources we'll be using 5d6 rather than 7d6. Basically, we're going to be starting at a bit of a disadvantage and it is going to be a harder House to run. So sounds like fun right?

Anyway, I will need 7 rolls of 5d6 to get our base resources.

Defense - 38
Influence - 32
Lands - 13
Law - 10
Population - 13
Power - 13
Wealth - 21

So that's our starting lot. That Defense is a real winner, as is Influence. Power, Population, and Law are going to hurt. Wealth is pretty decent for a Knightly House. Not the worst start.

Next up is House Founding, pic related.

We'll need a 1d6 for this. And we'll discuss based upon the rolls.
>>
>>1705529

If I am not mistaken this is what we get.

Defense 38

Three 6s and a 5.
Well that looks like a Newly founded to me. So sayeth the dice gods.

So our House is new, incredibly so. Founded after the War of the Ursurper/Robert's Rebellion/Booby B's Wild Westerosi Ride. That means the founder is likely the first of the House.

So a couple thoughts right now. As a Knightly House the House is unlikely to be sworn directly to the Arryns. So look about the Houses of the Vale and see if any strike you guys and we'll work out a rough history after the next couple of bits.

Anyway, with a newly founded House we will need a roll of 1d6-2 for Events.

Treachery, Favor, and Glory.

Those are actually some really interesting and good rolls for a new House. The Knight is going to have a really interesting reputation.

So what we're going to do is roll for the three events. I'll ask for an amount of dice that will fill the respective bonuses for each. I will take the first roll each time.

So first off I need a 3d6 for Treachery.

What about we were a men-at-arms of a landed knight who was a Targaryen loyalist.

We murdered the knight when a battle against some Arryn´s vassal began to went sour and swore ourselves under the Usurper´s banner. For our services, we received the land that was property of the Ser and got both the favor of the king and the loot all the battles that followed.
>>
>>1705647
The thing we need to do is our population, we don't have to worry about any enemies on the outside.

+4 Defense
+6 Influence
+4 Law
+5 Power

God damn son.
So our finished starting resources are as follows:

Defense - 42
Influence - 36
Lands - 15
Law - 20
Population - 13
Power - 23
Wealth - 21

Those are some damn respectable stats for a Knightly House. Especially such a young one.

Again, thoughts. With such a high Defense stat we can afford a good deal of Defense Holdings or go all in on a Castle for 40. Story wise that might mean that the Knight took the castle of his former Lord, who might have been a Targaryen supporter, thus the Treachery.

Anyway!

Next up is indeed Defense. We have pic related for all of the base Holdings. I'd recommend Father's homebrews as well since they have a lot of smaller holdings that make Defense purchasing more interesting.

So discuss, and ask questions if you'd like.
>>
The initial stat rolls were pretty good, 35d6 for an average result of >3.7 per die. And then Favor and Glory for starting events...

The dice gods are truly smiling.
>>
>>1705649
Nah
Id say we got our name out in some tourney making the king acknowledge our existence and then did some big dick shit during the greyjoy rebellion
>>
>>1705652

I actually planned on setting the quest in 288AC. A year before the Greyjoy Rebellion begins. So we have a conflict to work towards that will involve the Vale, even if only slightly.
>>
>>1705652
I had the same idea for the Treachery idea, so I support that and spending all 40 on a castle.

Castle
>>
>>1705682

Although, it is going to be big for a man of our standing
>>
>>1705677

>>
>>1705670
Mmmmmmabye we were a mercernary that preformed admirably during the rebellion as a low key sellsword, and we exchanged valuable tactical information to either side, in the end we actually stole someone else's glory and became knighted for our deeds, even though it was all motivated by selfishness and the acts of glory and not gold were a means to an end.

Something like that idk.

>>1705652
I say we purchase 8 and go for a full on superior castle. Cause thats one hell of an asset.
>>
>>1705652
Castle
>>
>>1705687
No, it gives us bonuses when we defend. Our stats are like currency we spend on stuff
>>
>>1705687
Not really. The castle give us a bonus in combat when we defend it.

It doesn´t add to the defense resource.
>>
OK guys the basic idea is:

We were a sworn to the Loyalist side in the War
We double crossed our former lord or employer
Because of that and our deeds in battle, we got gifted a castle and the land surrounding it.

How about that?

Now, what were we when the war began: a sellsword, a knight or a lowborn (men-at-arms, merchant...etc.)
>>
>>1705707
Sellsword seems like the best explanation for all the events so far. Then we were knighted during the war and etc.
>>
>>1705707
Id say a hedge knight from the vale who went down to kinglanding(vale tourneys have stiff competition) or just a simple sellsword

>>1705687
No not quite. The defense bonus is for Power holdings when they're defending the castle.

Anyway, looks like everyone wants to go on with the Castle. Which is going to be a task, a big empty thing for a Knight with no Household or History.

Next up is Influence. Which we have 36 of.

Now, we have the option of going Bachelor mode as many quests have before us. Or have a previous marriage before our ascent to a Landed Knight and have some children/heirs to speak of. Maybe the Knight is older and is looking to marry his heir and children to better stations in life than his own was. Wife might have been common born. Hell the Knight might have been.

Discuss what we'd like to do.
>>
>>1705670

We were a knight in the service of a Targaryen align lord. A fat lord that never lift a finger in all his life and expected us to do all the fighting for him. It was fine when we were fighting was clansmen but Robert's Rebellion changed that. He order us to intercept Robert's much larger host on his march to Gulltown to buy himself and Marq Grafton time to gather his strength. Sick of all his bullshit we threw him out a window and join Robert's army instead.
>>
>>1705707
How about a young Household knight. Still high on honour and virtue, and so when our lord joins the Loyalist side we are outraged due to the betrayal of Lord Arryn and the Barbarity of the Mad King yadda yadda yadda. More loyal to the Vale than to the Iron Throne.

Bachelor mode it is lads. Not unusual in the least.

So next up is Lands, pic related, which we have 15 of. That is rather weak actually.

The storyline reasoning for that is that most of the former Lord's lands were taken by neighboring Lords and the like and we were given only the primary domain.

Anyway, this works as such.

You need to purchase a Terrain type first (i.e. Plains, Wetlands, Mountains, or Hills)

From there you purchase features that are included in your domain, such as Rivers, Ruins, Forrests, etc.

Seeing as this is the Vale our options are either Mountains or Hills. Everything else is up to your guys.

Those are the things that are going to hurt and make this challenging in the beginning. Areas to focus on. Population likely dropped because of the former Lord's holdings going elsewhere. And the Law, because lol clansmen.

Alright sorry about that delay. Had to find something real quick.

Anyway, next up is Power, which we have 23 of. Which is respectable for a Knightly House.

So yeah, pic related.

Power works as such, you pick a Training level (i.e. Green, Trained, Veteran, Elite).

And you pick a unit. Archers, cavalry, infantry etc. Add those together for your total cost.

There are also a handful of homebrew options in Father's document if you'd like to use them as well. Discussion and questions.

>>
>>1705945

Veteran Garrison: 7

We have a castle, let´s make sure it is safe from bandits and invaders

Green Criminals: 1

Why send them to the Guard when we can use them just fine?

Trained Infantry: 7

Green Archers: 3

These three can form the bulk of our forces

Trained Scouts: 5

We need to make sure the mountain clans don´t get to us

x1 Green Archer
x1 Trained Cavalry
x1 Trained Infantry

x1 Trained Infantry

Alright by a narrow margin 2 wins.

Power is easy to get and we can fill in our gaps as necessary.

We'll be fine, no worries everyone. Concerns can be dealt with in game.
>>
Okay, very last thing we need to handle is Wealth.

This is one of the trickier ones since there are so many options.

I'd recommend going through Out of Strife, Prosperity and the Homebrew options as well for some ideas.

I know the idea of a Mine was tossed around already.

A Maester is incredibly common as well, but remember this is a young Knightly House so they might not have one yet.

Either way, we have 21 Wealth to work with. Questions and discuss as always.

And as all Vale Houses do we go with the mine, and some addition smelting.

So that leaves us with:

Defense: 2 - Castle (40)

Influence: 36

Lands: 0 - Mountains w/ Coast+River (15)

Law: 20 - -5 House Fortunes

Population: 13 - 0 House Fortunes

Power: 1 - Green Archers (4), Green Scouts (3), Trained Cavalry (8), Trained Infantry (7)

Wealth: 1 - Valuable Mine (15), Smelter (5)

And that's our lot. Follow up post in a second so we can start coming up with some of the details.

>What is our Castle called?
>Where is our Castle located?

Totengrad, the castle is located at the end of the mountains past the river

>Who is our Knight? What is his name, his background, new House name? Was he a bastard? Common born? A sellsword?

The knight's name can be either Tomas or something. New house's name is can be either Grafton or Dumas
>>

>>
>>1706315

>>1706315
For family we should do Eagle or Griffin since we are in the mounatins
>>
>>1706249

>Who is our Knight? What is his name, his background, new House name? Was he a bastard? Common born? A sellsword?

Sir Jonathan Dawn, our family serve the previous lord for generation and we have a some of their blood from a grandmother.

>Does the Knight have a family? Parents, siblings? Where are they?

Our father die a few years back from a bad fever and we took his place as the right hand man of the previous lord. Our mother is still alive and lives in Gulltown.

So a griffon is a lock. Easy enough on that one.

Dumas for a name? Not seeing any other opinions on this.

Lord Emmerst Earp was your former Lord and benefactor. His family had employed your own for several generations. Born of common stock and raised just beyond it your grandsires have been stewards, knights, and castellans for House Earp. Your father was the Lord's right-hand man, a steward known for his ability with figures. As he grew in age his mind deteriorated more and more, to the point where he found himself without a place by Lord Emmerst. He resides in his old study, a tower loft on the north side of the castle, scribbling notes of nonsense and hardly even remember his family or their names when they come to visit.

Your mother lives in Gulltown, with your elder sister's husband, an unnotable Knight in service to House Arryn of Gulltown.

Your younger brothers, a pair of twins now serve in your military. Co-Captains of the Infantry that you now field.

Is this acceptable?

Ser Landon of House Grallner then. Sworn to House Belmore of Strong Song.

House Earp was once considered a rival of House Belmore, powerful Lords of the river. Lord Benedar Belmore made a considerable effort to pull the Earp's former lands into his already considerable holdings. Landon is entirely unaware of this. Just knowing that Lord Belmore showered favor upon the young Knight who rode with what was left of House Earp's banners and those loyal to the Arryns to meet him.

I'll be writing up some stuff regarding the House and probably pop off to bed here soon. Tomorrow we'll roll up Ser Landon Grallner's stats and see what we can do about starting up and fucking some clansmen.

A couple more questions though to discuss:

>What does the valuable mine produce?
>What sort of personality does Landon have? What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
>>
>>1706978
>>What does the valuable mine produce?
Iron, and maybe also some tin and copper.

>What sort of personality does Landon have?
Honorable, Just and other things

>What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
Head of the Personal Guard, or Head of the House Earp Army
>>
>>1706978
>What does the valuable mine produce?
Copper and Tin.
>What sort of personality does Landon have?
He's an honorable guy but seems to have to do a lot of dirty work it seems. He's the one who had to take care of his previous lord, he's the one who has to deal with shitheels while trying to remain civil, and he's the one who hears all the shit talk about whether he's a Kingslayer part deux or not. Also he loses his temper with his ailing father some times and he hates it. He just wishes his father had gone out in battle or honorably.

>What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
Head of the army, since that pulls more weight than some faggot who was head of the guard.
>>
>>1706978
>What does the valuable mine produce?
A steel mine where the steel looks closer to silver than its normal color.

>>What sort of personality does Landon have? What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
Landon was Earp's sworn sword and was his champion for trials by combat which Earp would get into often due to his nature as a gambler and abrassive personality. One of these times was him betting his mine against some clansmen for one of their women and some of their men for an honor guard. Landon beat the champion but the Mountain Clans being the mountain clans didn't care and swore bloody vengeance.
Landon never really cared why he was fighting, just that he was and could taste the thrill of battle and prove how much better he was than the masses. Landon also had a soft spot for worship and was a devote FoS worshiper to the point he believes he was crafted by the Gods for a bigger purpose and would die trying to achieve it. He also loves his family especially his twin brothers and has a soft spots for his pet dog, Clarence.
>>
>>1707024

>>
>>1707024

>>
>>1706978
>>What does the valuable mine produce?
Silver.

>What sort of personality does Landon have?
Tries to do the honorably thing but has being doing the hard jobs and decisions for too long not to be a pragmatic. Following Lord Earp's order would have been foolishness, throwing him out the window was the best choice we ever made.

>What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
Castellan and Head of the Personal Guard, Lord Earp all military matters to us.
>>
>>1707044
We're a traitorous knight who betrayed our master and got his lands out of it, we can't be that honorable. Besides its a nice counterpoint to the Vale Knights way of thinking and will lead to interesting situations along with giving the character room for growth and development.

>>
>>1707103
Honor is an interesting characteristic for Asoiaf characters since it leads to conflicts with the other characters and is an interesting flaw in setting. What I have a problem with is anons who want pragmatic since it makes the characters never have strong characters when its a defining aspect since they always have to pick the best option instead of having beliefs and picking options based on them which makes characters more dynamic and real.

OK, how about this. We were honorable once, we truly wanted to be an honorable knight. But Lord Earp took that away that from us, he could use us as his champion in frivolous duels, just to get rip of a rival or the a husband of some woman he wanted. We were his executioner on more than one innocent. Throwing him out the window wasn't a moment decision, but the build up resentment from years of service.

Sure, love of fighting is easy we took a liking from all the duels, even if we detested the man we had to fight for and we took comfort in the seven. We knew they would punish Lord Earp even if we were sworn to protect him, our decision to finally throw him out the window feeled like an epiphany.

So I'm off to work here in a bit. Probably resume with character creation at 8-9 PM EST.

Some thoughts.

>What sort of weapons does Landon specialize in? Sword and board, two handed claymore, Mace, an axe, a spear, etc.?
>Is he/was he a good Tourney Knight, keen on the joust? Or more adept in the melee? Or perhaps archery? Or did he just never participate?
>What sort of horse does he ride? Is he a particularly strong rider?
>Did he inherit a Valyrian steel weapon from House Earp? If so, does he use it?
>What are the details of the Glory event? We have these Treachery and Favor but what did Landon do to bring Glory?

I would say that he specializes in the Mace. Doesn't really care about the appearance and that all lords should use the sword nonsense. Practical and efficient. Why break the skin when you can break the bone?

I would like for him to be similar to Tywin. Fucker's been fighting Bandits in the Vale for how many goddamn years, he knows damn well that lordly bullshit gets you killed and rotting on a hillside.

(attached image is what I imagine our character to be like).
>>
>>1708326
>What weapon
Sword and shield, the most popular fighting style for the vale and what we would realistically know.
>Tourney
Mostly the melee since the Joust was more for knights and nobles.
>What sort of Horse
An average one, as Earp's champion we never really focused on horse riding, but we can ride as well as most people.
>Valyrian sword
Nope Earp lost it years ago in a bet
>Glory
Landon was instrumental in the Taking of Gulltown by opening the portside gate for Robert and personally slew five vale knights of somewhat known status.

Yes but they needed to take Gulltown to ship Robert down to the Stormlands so he was there for the battle along with Jon.
>>
>>1708326

Morningstar and heavy shield, we distinguish ourselves in battle and demand fear and respect.

We engage in the melee, jousting isn't a true test of skill.

Alright so, to begin with, we have Landon's core traits. A Goal, Motivation, Virtue, & Vice. The majority seems to want to go the honorable Knight route, so we can pick things that would apply to such a character.

Or we can roll for it and have an absolute mess on our hands. But that never really works out too well.

If you're aware of how SIFRP works, you also pick an archetype for your character. Warrior, Leader, Schemer, Expert, and Rogue. Landon is so ridiculously a Warrior that I doubt there isn't much to discuss on the matter.

So yeah, feel free to ask questions and discuss. Make suggestions for what our most honorable of Knights should be.
>>
>>1710059
I think we decided on somewhat of a mix of these two
>>1707024
>>1707189
So for Goal it would be Fame, motivation Duty, Virtues Pious and courageous, and Vices arrogant and ambitious.
>>
Rolled 1, 12, 6, 5 = 24 (4d12)

>>1710059
Just to see what we roll up>>1710075 is what im probably going for
>>
>>1710059
>>1710075

I think our Goal should be power, motivation excellence, virtue Pious and Vices ambitious. We are pass duty thanks the late lord Earp.
>>
>>1710094
I meant for duty to the gods since their was no option for faith up there.
>>
>>1710093
>goal
>enloghtenment
>motivation
>madness
>virtue
>honest
>vice
>cowardly
Unless we want to be a complete cluster fuck who plans on crashing the whole vale with no survivors just to prove that the 7 love us most, i think not
>>
>>1710075
>>1710094
I would agree on Ambitious over arrogant. I think the Faith would frown upon blatant arrogance.

Virtue definitely seems to be Pious. That's pretty easy.

Goal and Motivation agreement?
>>
>>1710103

I think excellence serves the same purpose, is an standard set by the gods.
>>
>>1710059
Goal: Fame, Power or good
Vices: Ambitious
Virtues: Pious
Motivations: Excellence or Duty
>>
>>1710129
I like the idea of the character being very arrogant since it gives him a feel that he's ambitious because he believes the Seven created him for a grand purpose. Sure the septons might say we're wrong for thinking it, but we know the truth.
>>
>>1710145
Or we could be very Ambitious knowing the Seven made us for a grand purpose, so we reject the motive that we are meant for a boring life in the fields.
So we're so Ambitious that it causes arrogant.
>>
>>1710173
Personally it just comes down to if you want him to be more ambitious or arrogant at this point, and personally I find being more arrogant interesting.
>>
>>1710075
Virtue is pious
Vice is either arrogant (the 7 made us for a greater purpose :^)) or ambitious
Motivation should be excellence or duty
Goal is fame
>>
>>1710094
Seconding this.
>>
>>1710185

I think the opposite, an arrogant person is content and secure of itself. An ambitious person wants more. The later is more dynamic than the later.
>>
Alright let's put it to a vote:

Goal:
>Power
>Fame

Vice:
>Ambituous
>Arrogant

Motivation:

He's going to get them under his banner, more men to fight for him. With high morale due to being Zealots. We do have to train them.

They are sworn directly to the faith, taking them would be pretty heretical. Helping train them would be fun though.
>>
>>1710257
Training them would be fun, and maybe giving them a safe haven. I think that's the most we can do that's not heretical, we'll be seem like a ally of the light or something cool like that.

Fame, Ambitious, Pious, and Excellence.

That is certainly an interesting combination there. I believe the Fame motivation can reasonably be somewhat fulfilled on the onset. But likely not in the way Landon wishes it to be. Should probably specify what exactly he wishes to be excellent at though. Excellence in True Knighthood? In being the best damn House leader he can? The best warrior around?

Anyway, next step. We need to determine Landon's age. Now, this will give us our Starting EXP and from there we will build the characters stats. Remember it is 288AC, so he needs to be at a reasonable age to have been the commander of Lord Earp's army and he's right hand man in 283AC during the Rebellion. So consider that when thinking of his age, what age he was Knighted at, etc.
>>
>>1710293
We want to be an example of Excellence for all the faithful to marvel at and do honor to the Gods. For age probably 26 with him being knighted after his 17 birthday for winning a trial by combat for lord Earp against the Mountain clan champion.

Easy enough then, 26 puts us in the Adult category and gives Landon 210 EXP to start with.

For reference, starting on Page 53 is the descriptions of the Abilities and what they do, entail and what specialties lie with them.

All abilities start at a base 2. To raise an ability to 3 you will need to spend 10 EXP, to 4 spend 40 EXP, 5 spend 70 EXP, etc. Example, spending 70 EXP will bring Fighting from 2 to 5. Pretty basic concept there.

As a Warrior you'll want to focus on Fighting, Athletics, Agility, Animal Handling, Awareness, Endurance, and Warfare.

A small note, you can downgrade one ability to 1 for an additional 50 EXP. But be warned that ability means you are an absolute idiot at it. If it ever comes up you are guaranteed to fail it.

This is one of the more complex things, or at least I think it is, so questions, as always feel free. I've done this several times so I know what I'm doing with it.
>>
>>1710451
Alright if we up all our ability to 3 that's 190 EXP
Leaving 20 EXP
>>
>>1710485
>>1710485
You did that completely wrong. What we are doing right now is raising Ability scores, the leftmost column on Table 4-1, those 19 core scores are what we are spending our EXP on.

Afterward, we will spend an additional amount of EXP on Specialities.
>>
>>1710451
Alright
4 to Fighting
4 to Warfare
3 to Will
4 to Endurance
3 to Athletes
4 to Agility
3 to Athletic
3 to Persuasion
3 to Will
-50 3 skills
-160 4 skills

210 skills used

Courage 3: 10

Still not doing that right. Shield, Long Sword and Courage are not core abilities, they're Specialities. Only the core abilities in the leftmost column, i.e. Atheltics, Awareness, Fighting, Will, etc. those are what we're spending the EXP on.

Agility 3
Animal Handling 3
Athletics 4
Awareness 3
Endurance 3
Fighting 4
Marksmanship 3
Persuasion 3
Status 3
Warfare 3
Will 3

40 left, either get Status 4 and Cunning 3 or up Fighting 5 and Survival 3
>>
>>1710573
>either get Status 4
>>1710573

Oh right forgot to mention. Like most of the /tg/ and /qst/ quests you don't need to spend any EXP on Status. Landon will start with a base 3 status and can work on raising it through his actions and building his House.
>>
>>1710585
Here a question, the more things we, do can we improve our core abilities?
>>
>>1710504
I'll back it.
>>
>>1710592
Yes, you will gain EXP throughout the quest. For your actions, deeds, etc.

Win a Melee gain some EXP, convince someone important to do you a favor or purchase your stuffs gain some EXP, and etc. You'll see how it works out as we play.
>>
>>1710504
Okay then, this layout seems popular enough. It's a pretty good setup overall. Kind of average for your typical PC but hey, that makes it more fun in my opinion.

If I could make a few suggestions though?

Flip, Athletics and Agility, you get more damage with a higher Athletics given the type of weapons people were talking about earlier.

Raise Fighting to 5 and drop Warfare to 3. A 5 in Fighting makes more sense for a PC with a backstory of single combat making his name.

We don't have to do these things, but those are my suggestions for Landon to be a bit more efficiently built.
>>
>>1710673
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>1710673

I have to agree. We should focus on being a beast on combat.
>>
>>1710673

Good good. So Landon is a seriously good fighter. Sword arm is strong as hell. Can take a seriously good beating with that endurance.

But he has some failings. He isn't able to read for one, which honestly I find to be totally acceptable for the character. It makes sense given how he was brought up. He's not particularly cunning or deceptive either, just isn't part of his game. Very straight and narrow sort.

I think he'll be fun to play.

Anyway, next up is our specialties. As you saw in the previous graphic that goes along with each Ability. These provide a single bonus dice to the pool when testing abilities. Example, a 5 in Fighting, with a 2 in Bludgeons means you roll a 4D+2B when using a mace or something similar, which is roll 6 keep the best 4. You'll see it quite often in game.

So as an Adult Landon gets 80 Speciality Experience. It costs 10 to raise a specialty to 1B, 20 to 2B, and etc.

As a warrior you'll want to focus on your given weapons, so Long Blade, Shields, Bludgeons, etc. Strength for bonus damage with the proper weapons, Resilience, and Command.

You may also look to shore up some of your weaknesses with a bonus die in places you might find yourself lacking.

As always, questions feel free.
>>
>>1710832

Dodge is sort of ehh if you aren't a lightweight fighter. The test to dodge all incoming attacks will usually leave you weaker if you're a heavily armored character. You won't find a lot of use for it.

And Brawling doesn't seem that honorable to me.
>>
>>1710920
Switch out Dodge 1 for Brawling 2 then. And damn right it isn't honorable, sometimes you gotta' get dirty.
>>
>>1710920

Alright, step back. You guys are thinking a bit too specialized. Having a good handful in a weapon and shield is fine. But you need to branch out to other areas otherwise Landon is going to be utterly useless in anything other than a fight. Which not everything is going to be.

I wouldn't recommend taking both brawling and a weapon. It pigeons holes you too much. Gotta think outside of fighting.
>>
>>1710956
We don't have much experience outside of fighting from what our background feels like. We have to learn how to lead and be a lord since we would have no experience in it. Sure its going to make shit harder, but it'll make the story more interesting.
>>
>>1710949
I would agree either 1 in parry or having 5 Long Sword.

But thinking about it, we don't need to parry if we wreck the other guy. It goes with the story of us being a good swordman.

>>
>>1710965
I'm not saying entirely outside of being a warrior. Strength and Resilience are key parts of a warrior build with the right Benefits and weapons. Command helps you in large scale warfare. There are other specialties there that will make you a better fighter other than just going all in on a weapon.

And Landon having something like Convince or Bargain helps him just a little bit.

Sorry about the delay, had to crop and whatnot.

And the will of the majority rules. Reputation is a tricky one I'll admit but it will make you fare in intrigue a lot better considering your situation otherwise.

And Command is just generally good overall. Very useful for large scale warfare.

Okay, so now that that painful process is over we can move onto something else entirely. Benefits. So as an Adult Landon gains 4 Destiny Points. Destiny Points are your "get out of jail free" card in a game that will fuck you royally if you aren't careful.

Automatically and for free Landon gains the "Head of House" benefit. He is allowed to take three more. There is an extensive list of them in picture related. For more information on each begins on Page 74 of the core rule book.

As a warrior you will want to pick up some warrior related benefits but be careful with some. Weapon Mastery will only give you a +1 to Damage, which can be far more easily done by increasing your Athletics and not spending a Destiny Point. So beware of trap benefits as it were.

I would suggest Armor Mastery, it is ridiculously good. Shield Mastery is also good given you have dumped some points there.

So yeah, as always questions and concerns, more information if needed, etc.

Alright, Armor Mastery seems a lock. Not surprised it is literally one of the best benefits for a warrior.

Blood of the Andals seems popular as well. Pic related is the full breakdown of it. I assume we'll be picking Fighting as our reroll ability. It also opens up a whole host of storyline possibilities, as to whose blood the Grallners descend from. Whose blood is in Landon? Fun stuff.

But otherwise, we're kind of all over. Anointed seems popular? As does Shield Mastery and Attractive.

You don't need to take Anointed to be a Knight. It is just referring to Knights who have taken sworn vows, sacred oils, and received the whole ceremony of Knighthood. It is definitely something a pious character would cherish but it does not make the Knight.

Oh no I'd House rule that one away. Oh just give it to you for free, Sponsor literally doesn't do anything else so it doesn't hurt me to give it to you guys. We'd just have to come up with a proper character that sponsored young Landon's accentuation to True Knighthood.

No it would have had to have been someone in his youth. The Knight he was squire to or Lord Earp. Either way, irrelevant.

We'll go with Attractive. Landon happened to get the best of his mother and father. Sister did as well.

Not being properly annointed in the light of the seven is something of a sticking point for Landon. He was viciously jealous of the young Earp heir when he was without being half the Knight that Landon was. Deep inside he knows that is part of the fuel that burns his ambitions.

All Adult characters start with at least 1 Drawback. Picture related are your options. A Flaw can be to any of the core 19 abilities, such as Cunning, Survival, Deception, etc.

>>
>>1711689

Ehhh he's kind of right. Your mother was common-born, father doesn't have any noble blood in him except for his own grandfather who married a distant Earp cousin. Even if they "become noble" it would still be people going beyond their station in life. Honestly the only people I'm treating as noble in the family is Landon's generation. So Leianna, Landon, Lincoln, and Liam.

I don't like Haunty for Landon personally. Doesn't fit the sort of character I'm imagining or planning out.

Yeah, alright it looks like only having a Nemesis is the more popular opinion.

If I had to pick the flaws Landon had I would have said Honor-Bound, a holdover from his younger days, Ignoble, even if the reputation isn't particularly deserved, or Supreme Arrogance since arrogant seemed popular earlier.

If you guys feel like arguing that out further be my guest. I'm going to have to knock off here in a minute so I'll check in tomorrow and we'll see what happened.

Either way, Landon is mostly built. I'll equip him myself, since that's just more dry nonsense. Maybe tomorrow we'll have a little bit of story to start us off and get the ball rolling, yeah?

One last thing, pic related is the extent of the Grallner family as of right now. I'm starting to put together the Grallner Household, not a lot of people about honestly. Only one person of note, Lady Wylla Earp. The last living heir of House Earp resides in the castle still as a ward/hostage. She is a girl of 9 and has very little left in life and her fate is now left in Landon's hands.

Oh, and someone come up with a decent fucking name for the castle already. Griffon's Roost? Griffort? I don't fucking know.

Castles are rarely if ever renamed (just read the books). So the name is most likely a holdover from the Earp days aka not griffin-related. Besides, if you took a look here http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Category:Castles you'd know that Griffin's Roost already exists.

considering that we're just a knightly house, I doubt we'll be able to get a maester. It would make sense for our dad to have done the reading for us before his mind degenerated, but it depends when the dementia kicked in.

First thing should be working on Law, our smallfolk probably aren't that happy with us. A campaign rooting out bandits and tribesmen would also let us blood our troops.

Did we ever decide what our mine produces? I like the idea of silver, as it goes against our militaristic character. Would open us up to some intrigue and trade negotiation, opposed to an iron mine that would have mostly internal ties. Plus, we can give out silver chased arms and armor as gifts with a silver mine

I'd like to buy some heavy infantry next time we get new troops as well, because they're well made for fighting in the mountains of the Vale
>>

>So what sort of priorities are we going to set here? Our Household is pretty sad and pathetic, think we need to get a Maester ASAP. Who the hell even reads for Landon? Or collects his letters?
I think we should opt for a Septon instead of a Maester.
>Military could use some work as well, a lot of Green troops. Should we fluff them?
I like to think that the reason the troops are green is that the older veterans joined the former master-at-arms, our uncle, in taking the black. Less for loyalty to the former master, but more loyalty in our uncle.

More than likely not. Again work ran late and I just got home. I'm going to work on the House some, Household and the albeit small history. And yeah come up with some friends for Landon.

The first official thread should be this coming Sunday actually. I want to get a first story arc set up that'll lead us into the Greyjoy Rebellion. I'm actually considering not involving any marriage options right off the bat, so Landon can discover himself a bit more and build up his reputation beyond, "Knight man good with sword and pushing people out windows."

Speaking of, Whitestone Keep seems popular enough so we'll go with that. If you're curious about the vague likeness of the castle I'm basing it off of Masyaf Castle, particularly that from Assassin's Creed Revelations. If you're unfamiliar with the game watch the trailer and near the end you'll get a good idea of where the betrayal occurred. At least how I'm envisioning it.

I like the idea of hiring a Septon before a Maester. I think that's an interesting choice and makes the House a bit different than our usual fare. Having a zealously religious MC should be fun.

If anyone wants to contribute fluff or particulars of our lands, castle, history, etc. Feel free I'll be around for questions if there are any.

For the castle, I would imagine that it's an old fort from before the Andal Invasion that got built up over the centuries. The name of the castle comes from the original "keep" that lies beyond the curtain wall that was constructed from white stones in the manner of pic related. It was replaced by a traditional square keep by House Earp after the Andal Invasion. Despite the new keep being made of simple grey granite, the name remains
>>
>>1714282

Fair enough then, I think it's a good motto personally. Hits all the right beats. A healthy reminder of where House Grallner came from and a good strong Valeman motto similar to House Arryns. I imagine Landon takes pride in it but is also that little voice in the back of his mind.

Oh another thing, I decided to take off the Coast feature on your Lands Domain. I always viewed coasts to be purely referring to being against a massive body of water. Such as the Sunset or Narrow Seas. Since we're inland and just against the river which we own a part of it doesn't seem as necessary. So that's 3 Lands back to you guys. Sit on it, or spend it. Doesn't matter much. But sitting on it for another Domain might be a good idea when you plan on expanding your production beyond silver.

Speaking of, usually Valuable Mines don't entail Silver. They reach their upper limit at semi-precious gemstones and iron. But, what I'll do is say that the Mine is capable of producing silver. Enough that it is valuable but not considered rich. If you want to expand your mining operations someday you can pay the 5 Wealth to push into a Rich Mine territory and get the fully fledged benefits of a silver mine. So, in essence, the Mine Foreman has found veins of silver and they've begun to pick at it, it is making the House money but he knows it could be producing so much more with the proper investments.

>>1714282
That's actually incredibly similar to the idea I had for it. The old keep is still there and is the center of the garden more or less where a Weirwood used to live surrounded by its walls. The Earps and now Grallners use the newly constructed Andal esque keep which is what is more similar to Masyaf Castle. The area is actually an incredibly historic area given that the old Whitestone is still in good conditions, sans Weirdwood. And the garden is considered beautiful during the Spring and Summer with the Keep in the background. Though not so much now given that it has fallen into disrepair from Lord Emmerst Earp's gambling and lack of care for his castle.

could his hero be Sir Duncan the Tall? It fits with his common background and respect for the ideals of knighthood. Even though Duncan was just a hedge knight's squire, he was able to rise to the leader of the King's Guard and had plenty of adventures that exemplify knighthood.

>>
>>1714326
>>1714358
I feel if Landon had a hero it would be a Warrior's Son. Such as Ser Damon 'the Devout' Morrigen. Or someone very similar. The only thing is, Landon wasn't raised on Lordly tales and songs of valor. He was taught his words by the old Septon before he passed away and Emmerst never bothered to replace him. The Maester took no interest in the son of a steward. And so Landon was mostly on his own. He attended the occasional service when a traveling Septon would stop by. He took to the sword under his uncle's tutelage for having not much else in life beyond a strong sword am.

it might be my armor autism, but I've always pictured the Baratheon horns swept back and made fragile enough that they'll break off before they could hurt the wearer in a fight.

speaking of, how much armor do we want Landon to like? I'm partial to brigandines, for a couple reasons. They are cheaper than plate, so it might be all a steward could afford for his son, while still protecting well. Lord Earp probably didn't bother to outfit all his men with top of the line, as a cost saving measure. With his gambling debt(assuming that's canon), he would've been looking to save wherever he could.

Second, they look amazing, though black and white armor looks nice as well. If people like the blue and gold house colors, we could have a brigandine that matches them while still being fashionable. I like blue and silver, but that's me being thematic

Landon knows the big names and some of the locals. If they're from House Arryn, Royce, Belmore, Grafton, or Corbray he at least knows their arms. But in general, assume that Landon isn't particularly well versed in names and heraldry. A lot of the time they were just another face in the crowd during Melees.

Speaking of, in the years since Robert's Rebellion there have been a handful of Melees about the Vale. Landon isn't much of a traveler but was lucky enough to attend a Tourney hosted by Lord Belmore in Grimarbor, a port town. The money he won from that Melee is what is keeping House Grallner afloat for the past couple of years but it's close to running out and he knows he needs to do something lest the neighboring rivals begin to encroach further upon his lands.

>>
>>1714895
I think silver is the preferred color if we go by the House Sunglass story.

"Their blazon is composed by seven golden seven-pointed stars in a ring on white.[1][2] Originally, George R. R. Martin had envisioned the seven stars being silver, but after seeing the heraldry rendered he considered that silver and white did not differentiate themselves enough."

And it works with our mine.
>>
>>1714920
I like the gold griffon for aesthetic reasons, no real reason for it.

I like the silver border because of how silver surrounds the heraldry, which parallels how Landon sees the Faith of the Seven as surrounding his house. It also works with the mine as well.
>>
Personally, I'm not fond of the silver/white border but >>1714954 provides a fair explanation for it. If we'd like to add the border then I'll allow it.

>>1714809
>>1714814

Yes, on the condition that the Drawback makes sense with the character. If we'd like to go with Ignoble, Honor-Bound, or Supreme Arrogance I'm more than happy to allow it. Haunted really fucks you guys, and Haughty just doesn't jive with me. I'm not sure why, but just not how I see a common-born turned noble character operating. And it really fucks you guys too.

>>1714535
Actually quite the opposite Landon's only valuable and most prized possession is his full plate. It's a bit rough around the edges, has no fanciful adornments but is well kept. Landon takes time every day to care for it himself, a ritual while he takes morning prayer, especially because he doesn't have a squire.

Oh someone mentioned Landon having a dog, and I'm entirely fine with that. Seems like a neat little side thing. I prefer the Wirehaired Pointer Griffon myself. Looks like a Vale sort of dog. Oh, which reminds me, it is currently the tail end of winter right now. A couple more months before spring might start, Landon wouldn't know officially since he has no Maester to receive ravens from the citadel.
>>
>>1715143
>Doggo
Yes.
>>
>>1715143
I personally like what the silver stands for so please. And yes on the Doggo.
>>
>>1715143
I'm fine with us having a Nemisis as a (technical) drawback, but I agree that we should have one of these:
>Ignoble, Honor-Bound, or Supreme Arrogance
By vote would be for either ignoble or supreme arrogance
>>
>>1715143
Oh and an actual drawback that is a character flaw would be great. Any of the three would be fine.
>>
>>1715143
Honour-Bound if we have to choose another drawback.
>>
Alright, another drawback seems popular.

What I'll do is make it a vote right at the beginning of the first official thread. We'll keep Nemesis and of course get the free Destiny Point. Fair enough on that.

I'm having fun planning out the first story arc. And I realize that the House is going to have a hell of a struggle getting on its feet. A lot of good to great rolls for Resources, but not in the places we needed them. This House is going to be a challenge to run. Which I think will be fun.

Oh but why not? They're a very strong and prosperous House. Surely they could offer a suitable bride. Marrying outside of the Vale and your local area is very prestigious as well. Particularly for a new House. And who wouldn't want to get in on that sweet Frey Civil War action.

>>1717113
Likewise. Harrock was my first quest and first Got quest. I loved the hell out of it and was very disappointed when it ended. I'm actually really glad that we picked the area we did because of the proximity to the other Vale Houses; Bordain and Harrock. Artys' rivalry with the Belmores is something I want to touch on again. Grimarbor is something I stole from Harrock as well. Thinking on it, Landon might actually know Brock 'the Rock' Harrock. Likely met him in a Melee at some point.

Harrock was top tier, especially in terms of making realistic characters with problems that can't just be solved overnight.

Malroy is still my personal fav GOT Quest though. Father just understood how to bring political intrigue into a game. It wasn't distant or boring, nor was it easily changed by the PC's actions, which I think is a common pitfall.

I think he lost steam at the end, we lost some of our momentum after getting married and finding our sister.

That quest in which we were a House Lannister bannerman was good too. Uncaring father to a bastard son.

Never got into Iron & Hate. Bit too easy mode / power game-ish for my tastes.
>>
>>1717743
A thing i will keep Father credit for is how he balanced the canon characters. They didnt all line up to suck Malroy cock and be our best friends forever. Only one who really did anything that could be considered friendly without any backthought was Oberyn and even him i am not so sure about
