>The Intro
Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barret, a high school student who has just left his home of 16 years to move to Gotham City, and you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 15 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Let's have some fun.

Dull thuds ring in your ears. One. Two. Three. Four. Again. One. Two. Three. Four. Again. Your fists slam into the old cracked bag over and over, releasing fresh puffs of the scent of old leather every time. You've been at this gym for just over an hour and Artemis already has you running drills to perfect your form. Sweat drips down your face as you give yourself the first serious workout you've had since you start superhero-ing. Meanwhile, Artemis is standing to the side with her arms crossed, scrutinizing your every move. You continue punching even after she stops yelling for you to run through the motions again. You finish with a blow that sends the bag swinging hard in the other direction, breathing heavily.

Artemis tosses you your water and you drink it down greedily. "It's certainly not formal training, but you've got a great basis. You're gonna do great if you just keep the training up."

You can't help but smile. "My dad did teach me a few things, useful things for dealing with idiots who just rely on throwing their weight around everyone being scared by a knife."

She glances up at you while she types away on her phone. "Your dad sounds real tough."

He was. "Yeah, yeah he would give that impression."

Silence falls between the two of you after that and you both settle for just preparing to pack. up and leave the gym for the night. But Artemis stops you. "Oh. If you're planning on coming back you should really meet the owner. He's a tough old guy but he's real friendly, come on I'll introduce you."

"Um, alright. If you say so." She beckons you over towards a one of the larger rooms that's cut off from the main area where you've been training. It's got what's essentially a wall of windows so you can see what;s going on in there. You see a guy with his back to you, leading a class of about 20 in fighting forms. Just looking at him you can tell that he's done this so many times he could do it in his sleep. You and Artemis just watch for less than a minute as he brings the class to a close. When he walks out his mouth is pressed into a hard line. But he grins when he spots Artemis coming towards him.

"Still running them into the ground Ted?" Artemis shakes his hand and springs a hug on him before he can protest but he doesn't seem to mind.

"You know I don't teach any other way kid. They'll be all the better for it when they come out the other side."

"Ted, this is my friend Morgan. He's new to Gotham and thought he should learn to fight."

Ted moves past Artemis just a step to move and shake your hand. You barely catch but he sizes you up. You could tell by the look in his eyes. But it passed before you even knew it. "Good to meetcha Morgan, put 'er there." His hands are huge and calloused, his handshake is real firm but his doesn't crush your hand though you feel like he could without to much effort. He glances back at Artemis. "So, is your friend serious about his workout. Like you, I mean."

Artemis makes a face before answering a little bit too quickly. "Oh no, he's here to learn self-defense. Right Morgan?"

More than that. "Yeah, but I was hoping to learn real fighting. From someone who knows what they're doing. And Artemis says you know just about everything there is to know about fighting, Mr.Grant."

Ted just sort of chuckles and waves me over to follow him. "Nah, Mr.Grant is my father. Ted is fine. And yeah, if you wanna learn to fight, you could do worse." We head down towards the ring near the center of the gym as he talks. "But learning to fight and learning to defend yourself are two different things, despite what ya might think." You all approach the ring and you realize after looking at the rest of the place that this one must be the oldest in the building. "But a lot of things can become clearer in the ring. So let me see your aptitude for myself. Artemis probably ran you through some drills already." He nods to her. "All right kid, you get up there with Morgan."

Artemis doesn't hesitate, she hops up onto the platform and under the ropes. Doing a couple of stretches before out sparring match begins.

>Alrighty, if that's what it takes. (Spar with Artemis)
>You don't want me to win, right? I watched her tear apart like seven people at once when we met.

Aw boo. I was hoping we could shift our molecules into different shapes, ala Flint Marko. Shit would be cash.
>>
>>1719459
>>1719459
Might be able to do weird shit like that later, remember we're still pretty new with our powers.
>>1719453
On one hand, low rolls suck. On the other hand, it makes sense character wise, so I'm fine with it.
>>
>>1719462
That being said, isn't it just the mass of our body we can affect? Like we can loose our bones, fat, muscles and just be a cloud of molecules right? What if we add onto ourselves like a ton of weight, and just redirecting it into bones and muscles? We would literally have the perfect body without EVER having needed to work out. 7'3'' with a fuckin BOD dude cause we ate something like twenty burritos and 10 pizzas.
>>
>>1719500
Or at least better healing, but I'm guessing that would require some serious knowledge of biology, the kind we may be able to get at Gotham Academy
>>
>>1719516
Like I said man, along with biology and physics we can get a fucking amazing body. Transmuting fat molecules into actin, myosin, and calcium we can turn our fat into the ultimate sculpting tool. Like actual muscle building, just way faster.
>>
>>1719538
Sounds kinda like Fatgum from MHA,

>>1719516

I was think we could learn to move faster in vaper form and be able to move in cyclones/tornadoes and rip stuff to shreds. We could also break off pieces of ourselves and make small balls anywhere from bullet to cannonball size and shoot them, maybe even in hails of it. Maybe enlarge or compact ourselves for different situations. There's a lot of stuff you can do with this power if you think creatively.
>>
>>1719453
You look at Artemis as she stretches and hops about in the ring. She's only about what, 5'6? A bit taller than normal and you've seen the muscle she's built up. But beyond all that you've seen her in real fight first hand so you know not to fuck around. "Alrighty then, if that's what it takes. Just don't be surprised if she destroys me."

Ted just laughs, and tosses you a pair of old gloves for you to slip on. You climb in the ring to face your opponent and Artemis straight up looks like a different person. Her eyes are laser focused on you and she's locked into a wide stance that's probably apart of one of the many forms of martial arts she told you she's familiar with. You're having second thoughts before she winks. You manage to relax as you tighten your gloves and adjust your protective wear.

Ted pipes up before you begin. "Alright you two, this isn't a real match so I'll call it over when I see fit. Touch gloves in the center, and we can begin."

You both approach the center of the ring and when Artemis holds out her hand in a gesture much like a fistbump you tap and move back to your side of the ring. "Go!"

Ted signals the beginning and you and Artemis both move for each other without a second to waste. Knowing how skilled and fit she is you decide to use your natural advantages. Your reach, and your weight. You jab at her repeatedly as she tries to get closer, keeping her at arms length. She bobs and weaves past everything you throw at her, she suddenly whips about and her long ponytail distracts you for the barest second before her heel catches you in the side of the head. Instinctively, you grab the sides of your head and try to protect your upper body while she goes for your torso, jabbing you and landing a hard knee in your gut.

When you finally bowl over from the punishment Artemis is ready to pounce on you but your ready, you keep your legs tight as you roll backwards and spring her off of you just by extending your legs. Once you're back on you're feet you rush in again, an idea forming in your head. You go right in, and take the blows to your ribs as you wrap your arms around Artemis and go for a throw. You think you've surprised her at least but a rough elbow to your brow makes you regret this decision and let go.

You think you're back at square one before Artemis just rushes back in just as you get back on your feet. She transitions smoothly into boxing and punches for your face again and again, you end up purely on the defensive before you get tired of it and attempt to land one good blow. Looks like she was waiting for just such an attack. She grabs you arm and gets you clear off your feet in a classic shoulder throw.

Your world flips over and with a hard thud your on your ass. Ouch.

>Continued
>>
>>1719593
You hear a whistle sound off and see an upside down Ted approach the side of the ring. "Alright alright I think that's enough. Good job as always kid." Artemis just nods while she tries to catch her breath and allows herself a small fistpump to celebrate her victory. Ted turns back to you. "And you. That fight was pretty telling. You're used to takin on people that don't know squat about fighting, you know a few things sure but you're form is sloppy and you rely to much on heavy handed offense." He pauses, scratching his shin. "And you just take every hit that comes your way, you gotta learn avoidance kid. You act like your're invincible."

That's... actually really astute. "Yeah, I uh. I learned a couple self defense techniques from my dad but with the move to Gotham and whatnot I thought I should really learn to fight."

Ted doesn't say anything to that he just looks you in the eye. While unwrapping the boxing tape from his fingers. Eventually Artemis coughs and he just sighs. "There's something you're not tellin me kid, I don't just teach anyone fighting. I teach self defense classes. You can sign up on the internet." He then starts scribbling something in a notepad and walks off.

At a bit of a loss for words you just look at Artemis and she frowns before hopping out of the ring and goes after him. Shit. That guy can really read people. You might need a better excuse than self defense. Or maybe... Maybe you could just ask Batman. It couldn't hurt right? You sigh yourself and crawl out the ring to grab your back pack before a glint in the corner of your eye makes you look off towards the opposite corner of the gym. There's not much equipment over there, and the gym is damn near empty. Seems it hit closing time while you and Artemis were sparring. The room over there looks like an office. And the door is open.

There it is again, a small glimmer of light. But it feels off. Not electronic light or natural light. A quick look over your shoulder tells you that Artemis and Ted are back near the entrance talking. It might be an invasion of privacy. But if your quick about it...

>Go check it out. Gotham is full of weird shit and it's kind of your job to deal with it.

Yeah, invading the guys office isn't gonna help anything. You'd feel like a real jack ass if you were just seeing things and it's just Ted's phone. "Hey guys! Somethin's weird over here."

Ted and Artemis both look up and start to walk over but once they get halfway across the gym Ted's eyes widen and he sprints for the office door. Surprising both you and Artemis. He barrels into the open door and as soon as it crashes open the light from before grows into a huge flash, so bright that you both have to cover your eyes. And when you lower them, Ted is gone. And the glow remains.

"No. oh no no no no." Artemis runs up to doorway but stops short of the golden ray of light that fills it. "Ted..."

Okay. That ain't normal. Even in Gotham. "What. In the fuck. Just happened?"

Artemis looks back at you. Seems like she almost forgot you were here. "I- I don't know. This is crazy! I think we should call the police."

"Police? What're police gonna do about a glowing doorway?"

Artemis just shakes her head. "I don't know! But what are we gonna do? Ted ran head first into it. I think we should leave the building. And lock up so no one else wanders into this and call the police."

It's hard to argue with that logic. So you relent and exit the building with Artemis after making certain that no one else is hanging about the gym. Artemis gets on the phone but wanders off looking for better reception. And you're left alone in front of the gym. Okay. This is something else. Ted disappeared into a glowing doorway and now you're left with a lot of questions. The police aren't gonna be able to do jack shit about this. You could call Batman. But man, it feels so lame to call him again so soon. And he might be busy. Shit.

Or you could just handle this yourself. Whatever this is. Artemis walked off so this would be the time. You did bring your costume just in case...

>Fuck it, get in there. You can't just call Batman when shit gets weird, this is Gotham.

One more look back and forth on the empty street and you head towards a nearby alley, eyeing the corners of nearby buildings for cameras. Fuck it. You've gotta get in there. And you can't just go crying to Batman every time some weird shit happens. This Gotham after all. After making sure there are no eyes on you, you throw on your costume in record time. You whip out your communicator but you can't find any other function beyond calling. But you have a solution. You text Dick.

[Hey, bout to jump into a weird light thing. Come collect my corpse at Grant's Gym if I dont come back. Thx]

Perfect. And with that, you float your way through a small open window that anyone else wouldn't be able to fit through. You land gingerly on the gym floor and approach the office. The glowing doorway only creeps you out now in the dark since the lights are out. The golden light almost spirals within the doorway. You get ready to run in but you nearly slip in surprise as a figure darts in front of you and into the light. What the hell? Who would just... Not important. At least for now.

Steeling yourself, you get a running start and head through the doorway- portal thing. And immediately wish you hadn't. For what feels like both a split second and a hour before you awkwardly step out of the other side. And what you find is... unbelievable. Your in a maze. And not just any maze. This is some escher shit. Path ways go up and down and around. Oh jesus what have you walked into this time.

You don't get much time to ponder that though, given the sound of whistling air that alerts you to the arrow heading straight for your head.

The arrow surprised you. And by the time you can activate your powers it's too little to too late. The arrow (thankfully blunt) smack you square in the jaw and it sends you bowling over the side of your platform. After falling a few feet you stop yourself by dispersing enough that you simply float in place while you try to get a better look at your attacker.

The air whistles as more and more arrows fly for you and you simply allow them to pass though you while you observe. The archer is a girl, clad in green just like Green Arrow. She doesn't let up even though her arrows just phase through your body. You fly over to a new platform, one that's connected to hers and start sprinting towards her position. She continues firing and backing up but she can't stop you like this.

You're halfway to her when she knocks a new arrow and takes her time to aim. You're almost there. But then she fires. The arrow releases a gout of flame as it arcs, effectively becoming a fireball! Whatever you're gonna do about that, do it fast.

You can feel the heat even from here, that's gonna do more than sting if it lands. What you do next, you do without thinking. You just react. Suddenly, you throw your hands up and you fly up faster than ever before, avoiding the fireball entirely. But when you look down, you see the girl in green looking on with wide eyes and you notice- your body from the waist down remains on the platform. still running. The fireball must've flown between your two halves! As soon as you see it you snap back into one piece.

The female archer is too shocked to stop you as you barrel into her, wrestling onto the ground with her bow between the both of you.She elbows you in side of the head, stunning you long enough to get on top of you. She pulls out a handgun sized crossbow from her belt, pointing it in your face. "What did you do?! Where's Ted?!"

In response you disperse and fly out from underneath her and get back in the ready position. You're not sure what to make of this, she knows Ted. "I- I don't know what you're talking about."

She points the crossbow at you again. "Liar! I've been in here for hours and you're the first one I've seen. You have to have something to do with this or you wouldn't be here!"

Good point.

Okay, okay. She dressed up like a hero, you're on the same side so you gotta make her believe that. "Listen, Green Arrow chick. You look like a hero, I'm one too. I'm not your enemy I swear."

She narrows her eyes at the green arrow comment but lets it pass. "You're right, I do look like a hero. But you don't."

Now you take offense to that. "Oh come on! Is is all the black? I was thinking I'd do most of my work at night so black works well."

"Its everything! The color, or lack thereof. The weird bandage mask, your whole- smokey deal."

That's just unfair "What's so evil about it?! It's not like I'm trying to be scary or anything!"

She's just giving a you a look with her arms crossed now. You sigh, the dust around your face blows about in response and you take a second to think. "Wait a sec, you said you've been here for hours?"

That gets her to stop for a moment. "Yeah, I came through the portal and then I was just roaming these hallways for what must've been hours."

"You don't know how long it was?"

"It felt like hours! I don't have a way of telling how long but it just felt so long."

Something ain't right here. "But I saw you come in, and I was right behind you. It was only a few seconds."

She's starting to look more and more worried. "But if that's true then.. I have to find Ted and fast."

You look around, at the platforms going in and out. Then staircases going every which way. You really don't wanna try and navigate this. "Alright Green Arrow. How about you and me. team up to find Ted and figure out what the hell is happening and we can both get outta here."

"Do not call me that!" Oh shit, must've struck a nerve. The codename is Artemis!"

...Wait. "Artemis?"

She puts away her hand crossbow and starts walking and you follow. "Yes. As in, the goddess of the hunt. You should know the name if you've taken history or seen a greek mythos movie."

How did it take you this long to see? The hair, her voice. And the archery! It's all there. But should you say anything?

You may kick yourself for this. You haven't known her long but Artemis seems trustworthy. "No, I mean someone else. Artemis Crock."

She freezes in her tracks and the air in here gets a lot more tense all of a sudden. You see her hand drifting towards the grip of her crossbow. "Whoa there! Just, wait a second." You stop distorting your voice for a moment and remove your goggles. "It's me. You know me."

Artemis glances over her shoulder at you and looks you hard in the eyes. Her expression softens after what feels like forever. "Morgan? But- you just... Wow."

You grin behind your mask. "I know right? Metahuman powers are sweet. Being one in a billion has it's perks."

She snaps her fingers. "Metahuman, that explains a lot."

Snapping your goggles back on, you walk up to her and clap a hand on her shoulder. "You believe I'm here to help now?"

"Of course, we can talk about all this later I just don't know how were going to get out of here. Let alone find Ted."

"Where are we anyway?"

Artemis presses a button on her bow and it collapses to a size no bigger than a tv remote. and she stows in on her belt. "Well, how much do you know about magic?"

Not much "I only learned that it's real like last week so my experience is limited."

She just nods and leads as you both walk deeper into the maze. "This whole place is magic. Conjured by it. I don't know what for but Ted did. It was important enough for him to jump headlong into it."

As the two of you head deeper and deeper in you notice the wall and pathways sliding on their own behind you with barely a sound. "He a magician or somethin? He make this?"

Then she laughs, good and hard. When she's done she wipes a tear away and explains. "Oh no. no no. Ted is one of the least magical people you'll meet."

"Then who?"

"That I don't know. But if we find Ted, we can get answers." You just shrug, as it's the best that either of you can come up with. All you can do, is walk.

This is getting you nowhere. You and Artemis have been wandering these shifting halls and platforms for what feels like hours now but no matter which way you turn it's just always always always more hallways! Artemis is just forging ahead and leading with laser focus. But your starting to lose yourself in these halls. brick after brick after brick. The minutes turn into hours and back without you even noticing. Brick after brick after brick after brick after-

"Mogran!" Artemis hisses in your ear, shocking you back to reality.

"Huh, wha-" She claps a hand over your mouth and jerks her thumb around the corner and you take a peek. What you see is a large open space of platforms like when you first entered this place. And walking across one platform, following a floating red flame, is a man with dirty blonde hair in a trench coat. That's it. "Okay, who the hell is that?"

Artemis narrows her eyes and takes her time picking an arrow, her fingers brushing across their ends. "I never met him, but that's John Constantine."

"And who the hell is that and why should we care?"

Artemis just motions you to be quieter and continues to check her arrows. "Ted warned me about him, he's a magic user. Real magic. Said to never trust him and above all else, never make a deal with him."

Well then. "Is he really that bad?"

"I'd rather not find out. Let's follow him, he's clearly got something to guide him. Should be easy enough."

>"If you say so, I'll follow your lead on this one."

Artemis motions for you follow her as you drop down from your platform and head down and under ending up directly under Constantine's pathway. Your footsteps are practically silent thank to your powers but you've gotta hand it to Artemis, as far as you know she's completely mundane human but she's as quiet as you are, if not more so. You follow closely behind Mr.Constantine, helping Artemis reach new platforms with your powers and floating about freely on your own.

Eventually, he leads you to a circular domed room, where he just stops to consult the purple flame he's been following. He seems to be stuck so you and Artemis hide outside of the room to mull over your options silently. At least until a new voice rings out in the chamber. "John Constantine." The name flows off of an exotic accent that your having a hard time placing. "Fancy meeting you here." You hazard a peek beyond the door and spot the weirdest thing you've seen all day, and that's a real prize to win.

A woman, barely wearing anything. And her skin- fur? The same colors and patterns as a cheetah. Her cat like and animalistic features on the rest of her body line up with this. She slink down from the hole in the top of the dome and lands almost without a sound on her feet in the center of the chamber. She slowly stands up, her every move being as deliberate as possible, as she circles the magician. "Ohoho, Cheetah. Long time, no see luv. Just so y'know, I didn't mean to leave ya behind with Wonder Bra I just don't mix well with the capes and tights people."

She takes long and careful steps around Constantine. "Could've fooled me John. You do realize who you're stealing from?"

"Do you?" He retorts. "The big lug must be on his way, and I don't see any blood on yer claws so I presume you haven't met 'im yet?"

"He'd be dead and I'd be gone already if I had. The old fool probably doesn't even know what he has."

John slips a hand inside his coat pocket. "Speakin o' which-"

"Oh I know why your here John. The only real question is, do I have to sink my claws into you to find my way ou- " Cheetah suddenly stops but her ears perk up and then she begins to sniff and taste the air. That's probably not good. You look at Artemis and she takes Cheetah's possible detection of you both as a signal for preemptive attack.

Artemis jumps out from cover and unleashes two arrows which split off from one another and explode into nets. Constantine is caught off guard and takes a spill inside of the net, but Cheetah. She doesnt even avoid it. She just swipes and and her claws creates short lived glowing arcs through the air as the net is turns to shreds. She simply growls and lunges, while Artemis is drawing a new arrow.

Here we go.

>Knock Cheetah out of the air. She'll never see you coming.

After seeing what she did to that net you'd rather not charge right in, so you opt yo play off of Artemis' next move. Her arrow fires off while Cheetah is still in the air mid-lunge. She swipes it and destroys all but the arrowhead which pops loudly in a small explosion. She lands in front of both of you and shockingly, she seems more pissed than hurt at the explosive going off in her face and you take the opportunity to separate your hand from you arm and deliver a uppercut from directly below her.

Cheetah takes your hardened fist directly on the chin and stumbles back from the hit. Artemis seizes the initiative and fire another arrow, this one plants itself directly on Cheetah's chest and sticks. Before she can pull it off it shocks her, electricity visibly arcing off of her body. But really, it only seems to slow her down. She pulls the arrow off and sizes us up again before lowering herself to all four and rocketing off from a still position, faster than she has before in this entire fight!

She tackles Artemis and takes her down to the ground before you can react, and as your about to help something catches your attention in the corner of your eye. Constantine. He's standing up while brushing off dark red embers. The remains of the net it seems. "Sorry mystery man, I'm gonna need Cheetah, but not you." He takes his hand out from his pocket to reveal some sort of pentagram charm and before you can even ask yourself what it is a five pointed star made of light appears in front of him and launches a blast of blue light in your direction!

Rather than get blasted by the blue bolt you disperse on instinct. Your cloud gives wide birth to the magic missiles as Constantine constantly tries to blast you. You fly to and fro avoiding Constantine's attacks until you finally reform above him and drop into a punch. But right before you land it he smirks. And suddenly you wish you hadn't. His face shatters like glass, exactly like glass. Breaking into a million pieces and sending shards into your hand.

And fuck it hurts. You think you might even prefer electrocution to this sort of biting pain. You hear clapping of all things behind you. A slow clap. A golf clap, if you will. "Well done smokey. Not much manages to surprise me but not one of you folks are the same so I suppose it was bound to happen."

You grasp your hand squeezing it as if the pressure will lessen the pain. "Yeah well, maybe you aren't as slick as you think you are." You pick the small shards out of your hand, it takes all you've got not to cry out while doing so. Christ! This doesn't look so painful in movies.

He actually laughs at that. "Trust me, I'm exactly as slick as I think I am."

Constantine prepares his magic missile again but he's caught in the arm by an arrow, a real arrow. He's quite distracted with that so you turn your attention back to Artemis, She's got a few bleeding scratches on her arms but she looks more determined than anything else. Cheetah is currently shaking off some sort of foam on her left side but she's breaking out quickly using her claws.

What should you do?

>Press the attack on Constantine. Maybe you can trip him up, but magic does hurt.
>Let Constantine deal with the arrow in his forearm and help Artemis with Cheetah.
>Try and land a good hit on Cheetah while she's partially stuck.

Despite your bleeding fist you jump back into the fray immediately. Artemis seems to be a bit delayed searching for an arrow and you sprint up from behind Cheetah just as she breaks out of her hardened foam prison. You go to throw you punch, and that familiar tingling sensation overtakes your whole arm. You throw your punch early, seemingly throwing you fist into the air but your fist separates from your arm in the usual fashion but at a much higher speed than you knew you were capable of. It smashes into Cheetah's face and she finally falls over.

Though your victory is short lived, as she is back on her feet in an instant. She carefully wipes a droplet of blood from the corner of her fanged mouth. "You should be proud. Not many get to make me bleed." Her claws elongate even further. "Allow me to return the favor!"

She does a back-flip and spring boards off of the pile of hardened foam standing next to her and springs again off the dome wall at crazy speeds. She manages to ram right into you taking the wind out of your sails and pinning you to the dome wall yourself. She rips off your goggles and observes you with hard predatory eyes. "So what do we have here? My money is on metahuman." Drags her claws slowly across your chest.cuts the fabric easily and stopping short at you makeshift armor "Hmm? Oh that's adorable." She brings her fingers together and jams them into your body, it penetrated the plate of steel like it was nothing! You're trying your best to disperse but you're having a real rough time of it with her claws in you.

God, it's moments like this that makes you go back to when you first started this whole deal, less than three months ago. Less than three months and you're already getting stabbed by animal hybrid criminals. Mom would lose it if she how you were spending your're friday nights. But the pain is almost good in a way. You can avoid so much just by instinct that it reminds you of what you face when you put the costume on. You're so close to losing yourself in your own thoughts to escape the pain that almost miss Artemis' crossbow bolts hitting Cheetah right in her hand.

She growls and roars with pain and frustration as she lets you go and sprints for Artemis. It takes you a moment to gather yourself after that but you lock eyes with Artemis. And everything seems to slow down. She's launching an arrow just as you feel that tingling over take your whole body. You disperse and surge forward. Cheetah slashes each of Artemis' arrows out of the air without much issue but is nearly there by the time you reach her. You're body reasserts itself and you land a flying kick on Cheetah's side. She goes bowling over from her attack but as usual. It's not having much of an effect.

You put your fists up in a fighting stance, falling back on what your dad taught you. Cheetah and Constantine have recovered and you and Artemis' are running ragged. You've gotta do better. "We've gotta sync our attacks if were gonna make it through this."

Artemis nods, her hand's shaking ever so slightly on her bow. "Agreed."

"You got anything in your bag of trick that can put this bitch out of commission?" You eye Constantine warily as he opens his arms wide and begins chanting something in a language you don't recognize.

"I think so, but I only have one so we've gotta make it count." She pulls out an arrows with a large head.

"What about John?" You begin to disperse your cloud around Artemis and yourself in preparation.

"He's not trying to rip our throats out so we'll worry about him next."

"Point taken." Your cloud soon envelops both of you and you take on a half gaseous form and float around Artemis as she prepares herself mentally. "Okay, I'll be the bait, you be the hunter. " Artemis just nods and steadies her arms on the bow. You float through the mist you created and spot Cheetah trying to swipe away the dust. "Hey! Pussycat! Don't make me get the hose."

She grins with a mouth full of fangs and starts toward you, stepping just into your small obscuring cloud. Now is the time...

Since you're dispersed wider than you've ever attempted before, you're having a hard time keeping it all together. Cheetah bounds towards you with nearly reckless abandon, her fangs and claws glinting in the low light. You can hear Artemis loose her arrow, a distant beeping sound goes off, and you hope that Cheetah will miss it in her bloodlust. No such luck. What happens next practically unfolds in slow motion. Cheetah's eyes dart from you to the arrow headed straight for her. She raises her claws in defense and slashes the arrow before it can connect.

But the beeping doesn't stop. The arrowhead explodes in midair, cold air and white fumes burst forth and crystalize all over Cheetah's left arm. Shit, not what you were hoping for but you'll take it. You snap your body back together and launch your hand in a punch just like before, you hit Cheetah in the gut, and she goes sprawling across the floor.

And then it hits you. A red flame bursts into life and smack into you. Sending you flying just like Cheetah. It knocks the wind out of you but you manage to come to fast enough to rip off the metal plate under your clothes given that it's slowly melting. You look up and Constantine is suddenly standing over you, looking down with a smug look you can't stand all over his face. "Now now, ye can't just forget about lil ol me."

"How could I forgot a face like yours?" Keep him talking. Maybe you could pull one over him, one more time.

He leans down until he's practically right next to your face. "I don't usually hear that from blokes but I have that effect on people." He looks you right in the eye and you get a better look at the scruffy englishman. Cigarette smoke clings to him hard, and his unkempt stubble only compacts on his tired but vibrant eyes. They are literally shining just barely. "You're a kid aren't you? Definitely new to this either way." He stands back up. "Do your self a favor and stay outta my way. I got no love for you capes but you've taken enough punishment."

"Please, I could do this all day. The cat scares me more than your magic tricks." Just a little more.

He chuckles again. "I mean it, have a sit and maybe I can keep Cheetah from havin ya for supper."

Now. "Oh I can take care of myself." You raise your arms, hands dispersed leaving nothing but stumps. "I'm handy like that." His eyes widen for just a second before you tap him on the shoulder with one hand and when he double takes you hit him right across the chin. He stumbles back and end up leaning on the well of light in the center of the chamber.

While he nurses his jaw, you turn and see Artemis firing arrow after arrow at Cheetah. small explosion pop again and again as she scuttle on the floor roaring in frustration. She finally manages to smash the ice her arm is encased in on the floor and stands up. "You'er almost out of arrows girl. And you can't keep this up forever. But I'm just getting warmed up!" Her claws elongate yet again, making them more like knives on the ends of her fingers.

John starts to stand again and you, ragged from fatigue and your injuries. This fight is about to begin all over again! But then, the light in the middle of the room expands, glowing brighter and brighter and and expanding over the edges of the brick well. Cheetah stops in her tracks and looks behind her with wide eyes.

Then he emerges. Ted. Ted comes rolling out of the pillar of light and glares at Cheetah, then regards Constantine with cool disdain. To which he responds with a wink. Your not sure what you were expecting after that but what happens next was really beyond whatever you could've imagined. A man, clad all in gold floats gracefully from the light. Golden cape flapping behind him. His helmet strikes you the most. The gold sheen is almost unnatural, the way it shines yet reflects nothing. The man under the helmet, his eyes glow an empty white.

"CEASE THIS CONFLICT. FATE HAS INTERVENED" His massive voice rings more in your mind than in your head, and you think you hear... two voices speaking at once.

Cheetah is not liking this, whatever it is. And John doesn't look pleased either but he's doesn't look like a cornered animal. she tires to bolt out of the room. But the man in golden armor just raises his hand in a circular pattern and throws up a hand sign and she get restrained to the floor by small shafts of golden light. She struggles hard to get out but he simply waves his hands again and she disappears in that same golden light.

The golden man merely looks at John and he holds his hands up in a placating gesture. "Oh no. I know when I'm not wanted." He takes out a small black trinket from his coat. "And I brought my own ride, thank you." He throws it down and is enveloped in black smoke. that curls and wraps in on itself, when it dissipates. He's gone.

You look at Artemis and she's slumped to her knees after Cheetah was magic'd away. Ted rushes to her side and the golden guy just floats after him silently. Ted gingerly helps her to her feet and comes and does the same for you. "Fate?" He refers to the man in gold. He just nods and waves his hands again. Then, as quick as you entered it, the world of brick and hallways disappears and is replaced with the inside of Grant's Gym.

The guy you now know as Fate is talking with Ted as you and Artemis sit on some nearby chairs and just try to rest your bodies.

>"Ok. I have many questions."
>"Ted, are you a wizard? Artemis said no but it's getting hard to think otherwise."

Ted Grant is a big deal to have as a teacher

Yep, time to go all in on boxing. With our powers it'll work wonders.

As the old boxer and the golden magician talk away just out of earshot. You raise your hand slowly, the wounds in your chest protesting the whole time. The two adults stop once they notice you and Ted nods to you. "Whaddya need kid?"

You lower your arm and sigh, even that is kind of painful. "Okay, so I need someone. You or Fate, doesn't matter. To explain why me and Artemis why we went through that. In like, thirty words or less. If you please."

Ted and Fate just look at each other before Ted sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Cheetah, the broad with the claws, she tired to steal something from me. Something that Doctor Fate here, trusted me with."

Fate crosses his arms, somehow looking pensive without you being able to see his face. "The fault is not your own, Ted. I have my doubts that Cheetah learned of the artifacts location on her own." The bass of his dual tone voice is lowered to a much more comfortable level now.

"Speaking of her." You interrupt. "You banish her to the shadow realm or something?"

Fate shakes his head. "No. Merely Blackgate Prison. They should have the facilities to hold her."

You weren't expecting him to answer that seriously. "Anyways." Ted continues. "What you guys entered was a sorta... security system that Fate installed to help keep the artifact safe." He holds up something. In his hand is an old belt buckle, worn with time and some damage. It has the face of a roaring big cat on it. That's it?

Seriously. "She nearly got lost in a escher maze and killed us for a belt buckle? Oof."

You rub your side as Artemis elbowed you and shoot her a quick glare. Your midsection isn't doing so well right now.. "Sorry. But, just think. That whole situation just stunk of magic. So that means..."

"Correct." Fate cuts in. "The buckle has mystical properties. I have yet to ascertain the origins of this ability, but the buckle allows the wearer nine lives. Literally. If you die while wearing it. You will be resurrected up to nine times."

You both look at Ted and he holds his hands up. "Don't look at me! I got the damn thing at a pawn shop in Tampa."

You lean back in your chair, looking towards the ceiling. As is your preferred position when sitting at school. "So Cheetah and Constantine were after the buckle? Shit, that guy is dangerous. Are you sure it was okay to just let him fuck off like that?"

"John Constantine cannot be contained easily. And while he was here to steal from Ted, he is not as immediately destructive as Cheetah." He pauses, as if to consider his next words. "Constantine will be judged in time. This, I can assure you." Well. You're not sure how you feel about that ominous threat being leveled at anyone but then you remember his smug face and suddenly, you can live with it.

Ted walks over and produces a first aid kit from his office and sits next to Artemis first. "So, Morgan. Still want to learn how to fight?"

What? "What?"

He smiles and begins to pad Artemis' wounds with a cloth soaked in alcohol. She hisses from the pain but he just keeps talking. "I saw you fight. Through the light in the center room. It took a while to summon fate. Otherwise I never woulda left you two to fight someone like Cheetah or John on your own. It's too much for a couple of rookies." He scratches the side of his head, tracing his fingers along an old scar. "Or so I thought. You two held your own, even if it was getting you nowhere."

Artemis speaks up through the stinging pain of her treatment. "It isn't like you to beat around the bush this much Ted, you gonna tell him or what?"

What? "Tell me what?"

Ted just laughs again. "When you're right, you're right kid." He stands and moves his chair over to your side to treat your wounds. "You must've at least heard of the Justice Society, right Morgan?"

You and anyone that's ever had a history class in the last couple decades. "Of course, they were like an old Justice League." You pause. "Or at least, the Justice League is like a new version of them. Group of guys with unique skills and powers, covert stuff right?"

"Right. Well, you're looking at two charter members of the Justice Society of America."

Your eyes shoot up as you look at both Ted and Fate and good lord you could kick yourself for not recognizing Fate sooner. But Ted? The old boxer. He can only be one member you know of. "You're Wildcat?" The words leave your mouth in a whisper.

"That's my name kid, so you gonna answer my question? Yous still wanna learn to fight?" He finishes bandaging your chest and flips his chair around. Artemis seems to be waiting to hear your answer too. Doctor Fate floats impassively behind Ted.

Well, do you wanna learn from Wildcat? You could still go to Batman. But... how often do you get an invitation to be trained by a veteran hero? And no doubt they could teach you different things.

>This is a very important vote so consider the differences between these two options. I'll leave the vote open for a little bit longer than usual. And yes, this is a bit of a routelock.

I'll still stick with the wildcat vote anyway. The skills work for me a lot better and as cool as batman is, the whole batfamily thing is way too much drama to deal with if I'm perfectly honest. It's not a decision you make instantly or even lightly. It's not like you have an open invitation with Batman but you don't think he'd send you away at this point. But to train with Wildcat? The guy who went toe to toe with with supervillains and threats to entire nations with just a motorcycle, fists, and a bad attitude? Yeah, you wanna know everything a guy like that has to teach you.

You sit up from your slumped [position on your chair. You feel your mouth curl into a grin before the words even leave your mouth. "Hell yeah I wanna train with Wildcat!"

He responds with a big grin of his own. Laughing uproariously at your enthusiasm. "Now that's what I like to hear. Your gonna fit in just fine around here Morgan."

Artemis pulls off her mask, its split in some places from her scuffles with Cheetah. "It'll be great to have you Morgan. And not only because Ted can run someone else ragged with his drills."

You all share a laugh at that. Even Fate, surprisingly. You're just hoping Ted didn't notice the nervous tinge on your laugh. And through all of your laughter you don't hear the sound of a key being inserted into the front door. And non one managed to here someone approach the group until she's standing in plain view of everyone, large travel bag slung over her shoulder. The laughter peters off as we all notice her, she looks at the two injured teenagers, the floating magician, and then back to Ted.

Whipping her platinum blonde hair back over her shoulder she drops the shockingly heavy bag with a thud. "So, what'd I miss?"

Wildcat mentorship will be different! Though I was thinking that Batman mentorship would be just as different in terms of quests given that I'm pretty sure no other DC Quests has chosen him as a mentor. Having the old guy as a teacher will be quite the experience.

Now. I have a question for everyone still here. I'm thinking of doing a short time skip. A matter of months to pound in the training into Morgan. And to keep up the pace needed for a cape quest. Are there any objections to that? I would also be giving you several choices to make to decide how you develop relationships and skills during that time.
>>
>>1725977
Sure, I'm fine with that
Though, I want to know, are we closer to Artemis than Dick at this point?
>>
>>1725977

I'm fine with it, but occasionally have a small social scene or something.

Like time skip, but we stop about a week into it so we can make a comment or action during a scene that will affect the relationships, then start up again, stop for a scene/decision, etc. etc.
>>
>>1725977
I have no issues with that, I also think giving us choices to develop the story during the time skip is a good idea.
>>1725995
I'm pretty sure we were already closer to Artemis than dick.
>>
>>1725998
This works, or maybe throw some of those scenes as a cool flashback moment or something.
>>
>>1726001
We do work well together. not just saying that because of my love of blondes.
>>
>>1725977
A proper timeskip would be good
>>
>>1725995
You are a bit closer to Artemis now yes. It's mostly because of time you've spent together at and after school.

>>1725998
That's good. Pretty much was I was planning on.

>>1726001
>>1726003
>>1726013
>>1726024
And I'm not seeing any objections so timeskip is a go! The beginning of the next thread will be a bit different then.

Any last minute questions before I fuck off into the night?
>>
>>1726013
I really meant the fact that our social bar with Artemis was already higher than Dick's bar before this thread, but that too.
>>
>>1726095
Nope. Thanks for running Sleepy.
>>
>>1726095

Will there be any social media shenanigans?

Like maybe a teen "hero"/"villain" who's only doing shit for fame and popularity on the Internet.

Like, I like the idea of it being involved in the quest and with superhero shit, but I can't think of much reason for it to be involved other than dumb teens doing dumb shit even though they're heroes/villains.
>>
>>1726114
Post youtube ok'd videos, beg for patreon gibs?

Superhero making what is effectively part-time money would be fun
>>
>>1726114
So, similar to The New Warriors in Marvel? They devolved into a group who did it as a reality tv show. Cared more about ratings than being prepared.
>>
>>1726130
Sleezy as hell.
>>
>>1726130

That or like Morgan & Artemis (or some other hero(es) ) taking dumb selfies after beating up criminals and posting them online. Or villains doing the same, but after heists.

>>1726141

Yeah sorta, but with like Instagram or YouTube videos.

Maybe a fuckin' corporate sponsored group of heroes required to log their activities online or else they'll lose funding and equipment & shit.

Sorta like a superpowered Team 10, but more likeable.
>>
>>1726157
I'm leery of anyone that would do heroing for likes and selfies and shit. Kinda tasteless.
>>
>>1726169

Which is why they'd make for interesting characters, at least for one arc.
>>
>>1726187
I mean, as long as it's not Morgan or Artemis sure. I'd like to think we'd have a bit more tact than that. Imagine what Ted would think.

It's funny because you're kind of describing how I'm doing Beast Boy in this. He's not scummy about it or anything he just has a sizable social media presence.

Okay, I'm heading off. I'll be checking on this thread later though!
>>
>>1726205

I don't think Morgan or Artemis would be too focused on it.

Just Morgan taking the occasional selfie and Artemis being annoyed but occasionally giving into it.
>>
>>1726223
>>1726205
>>1726205
Same, I see Morgan taking up a more street level Shadowy intimidating figure, like Batman and wildcat each are in their own way. Having a social media would probably ruin that image. Speaking of which, we really should think up a superhero alias next thread.
>>
>>1726319

I was thinking good-humored/natured but can be scary when focused.
>>

I was thinking something like Umbrus

"Grey Ghost"
>>
>>1726656
One slight minor nitpick.

We turn into a cloud of black dust shit, not gray dust shit. Throwbacks will be throwback, though, I suppose.
>>
>>1726665
Actually it's a grey or dark grey!
>>
>>1726665
well I guess this>>1726715
solves your nitpick soo . . . Grey Ghost
>>
>>1726715
Ok good, going by "Black Ghost" would probably have been a no go.
>>
>>1726735
>Black Ghost
Isn't that the name of the villain from Cyborg 009?
>>
>>1726762
Actually it was the name of the evil organization, but nice catch either way, didn't even realize.

>>1727803
Or we could get ideas from the internet
>inb4 Mummy McGhostface is the top pick
>>
>>1727803
If we're going obvious one word name route, then Dust or Smoke would probably work better. We could also go for a ghost angle, not just Grey Ghost, we could do The Phantom or Spirit. Doing a cloud type name could be cool. I've thought of Knuckle Duster but I realized that I was already taken from another universe, could still use it though. Maybe Shroud or Hollow? The grey and dark colors, power set, and that weird thing we do with our voice are definitely incentive to go a dark, intimidating angle. Though I'm perfectly fine with Grey Ghost. Maybe Mantle or Cloak? I'm terrible with names by the way, so if any of these are shit or taken just say so.
>>
>>1728170
Shroud is cool, but Cloak is taken.

>>
>>1728273
Oh yeah, though to be fair they're marvel.
>>
>>1728292
Yeah, but people could get confused, and isn't it better to not have the reader think of something else while reading your works?
>>
>>1728296
That's fair, either way I'm not pushing for cloak, I just put it out there. I'm either for shroud or grey ghost.
>>
>>1728321
I don't like Grey Ghost, I am part of the One-Word Name camp.
>>
Why not go with Poltergeist? Or just Geist? Nachttraum?
>>
>>1728335

Nice desu
>>
Specter? Shade?

Keep in mind if the name we want belongs to some C lister QM can just erase them from this timeline, his quest his rules.
>>
>>1726319
Perhaps a name to do with Greek mythology in respect of Artemis? Or to Wildcat like Kitty Litter
>>

Charon?

I can tell you right now, 99% of all names that will be suggested will have been used at some point by either Marvel or DC. Especially when you think you've got a good one and BAM some really old comic with a dude that is never used at all even in jokes anymore there's a guy with that name.
>>
Let's find a way to make ourselves crystalline with our powers, so we can go around calling ourselves Diamond Dust
>>
>>1729373
And before anyone days it, no, I don't have a plan for making it happen.
>>
>>1729374
Maybe rearrange some of our particles into tiny crystalline structures?
>>
>>1729482
That would be a cool attack, some sort of slashing particle whirlwind.
>>
>>1729505
You know, if we could dustify objects we carry we could take a piece of steel or iron around and then solidify only a thin sliver of it so it'll end up being able to slice through things. It'll degrade almost instantly but hey, it'd hurt.
>>
>>1729505
That's one I was thinking, I also think we could do a move where our particles form either a big spinning ball or a a bunch of little balls and shoot them like a hail of bullets/cannon ball, or course rather than shooting them it's more like we're speeding at a target in the form of a bullet storm/cannonball. This way we can tear through areas and shoot ourselves at top speed, like a speedy tackle. We could also see if we could rearrange our particles to form weapon arms like thick arms or hand maces like sandman and venom can do. We could also try increasing our height or build, and maybe train enough to always be in a semi-solid form, it'd be cool. Ripping stuff apart as a personal sand/dust storm would also be great.
>>
Why not call ourselves Soot? We make a smoke like particulate anyway, right?
>>
What about our hero name being Ghast? Or Gast.

'Cause we're spooky, a bit spirit like, and can become gas.
