It's been another day of straight traveling since you woke up from your rather nice sleep next to Sierra.

You're currently alone in camp because Sierra and Goo Hwi are making a trip to another nearby town to grab more supplies and check to make sure you're going the right way.

So, you find yourself with some free time on your hands.

You pull out the Decrepit Magitech Gauntlet. Ever since you got it, you've been itching to pull it apart. It's not like you've never worked on gauntlets before, but it was always patchjobs and repairs. This'll be the first time you're able to actually examine every piece to figure out how this things function.

The Toolbox you found also had a nice Screwdriver, Wirecuters, and Wrench alongside that multitool, so you pull out the basic tools and lay out the gauntlet on the grass.

It takes a while for all the reasons you imagined. The thing is only just barely not falling apart. Rust has gotten into every crevice and the entire thing is one solid hit away from shattering.

Once you're done cleaning, you decide it's time to go over your gear. Before, though, you check over the tools you've gained from the Ruins.

You haven't used the Multitool yet so you set it aside; you're not sure you'd be able to understand the intricacies of such a device, so it's probably for the best. You do check over your new Screwdriver, Wirecuters, and Wrench. It quickly becomes evident that even these are higher quality than you're used to, since aside from a few smudges and stains that you easily remove there's almost no evidence of the passing of the years.

Setting them all back inside the Toolbox, you get to your bag.

It's a nice day out, and you'd like a chance to stretch your legs while you can.

So, you get up, and get ready to go. Only to realize just how bad you smell. Seriously, you absolutely reek. It makes sense, since there's no way that you've been able to clean yourself lately, what with being unconscious and traveling and all that.

Grabbing the only other change of clothing you have, you pack up your belongings and go to find the nearest river to rinse off.

You enjoy a rather nice walk through the warm forest. It takes a bit, but you don't mind all that much, and before too long you find a flowing river.

Setting down your belongings and your clothes on a nearby rock, you take off your boots and socks, enjoying the feeling of the bare earth and riverbank under your feet. Walking up to the water, you find that the water is absolutely freezing.

You wince slightly, this is going to be rather jarring no matter how you do it. Putting off the choice until you've stripped down entirely, you now have to face it again.

Finding a spot deep enough that you won't have to worry about breaking your legs, you grit your teeth and jump straight in.

It's [i]freezing[/i]. For a moment, while you're completely submerged you can feel the cold physically biting into your body. But, thankfully, the moment passes and your body adjusts.

Wasting no time, you scrub yourself down, having to do with your bare hands, but you still are able to get most of the dirt and muck out of your skin and hair.

You definitely feel a lot better than before, but the water is still cold as all hell so you waste no time getting out and getting yourself into that clean set of clothing. You leave off your socks and shoes for now, content with just lying down on the rock while you slowly dry off.

As nice out as it is, it's time to go. You top off your canteens, make sure all your belongings are together, and then set off.

Goo Hwi gave you directions to the town before he left, and you have no problem remembering them. Stepping through the woods feels natural as can be, doubtless due to your countless hours of wandering.

It's about 30 mins before you make your way out of the foliage and find a path. From there, it's easy to simply follow it to the town. This place is a relatively nice town, and it's not hard to figure out why.

There's a mainline train set up to go straight through the outskirts of town. Guessing that this is probably the aforementioned 'ride', you head over there post haste.

And you're right, you can see Sierra and Goo Hwi hanging around by a small crowd of people. Walking towards them, the elf catches sight of you and waves you forwards.

"So," You begin, "What's the catch for our ride?"

Sierra has the decency to look guilty at your question, though Goo Hwi just laughs at you before responding.

"The Head Engineer is in need of an assistant, and the Owner of the trainline believes there will be an attempt to kidnap him and his family on this trip. You can guess where we come in".

Great.

There really wasn't much more to the story from what Goo Hwi told you originally. The deal was simply that the ride would be free so long as the Owner and his family arrived in Shirahoro safely and the train didn't spontaneously explode somewhere along the way. You frowned there at the implied slight against you, but you really don't have much experience running a full-fledged train.

Now, though, you find yourself walking up to the front of the train instead of to the First-Class carriage Sierra and the Old Man were. So while they get to go meet with the Owner and enjoy living the high life, you get to meet the Head Engineer.

Joy. At least you're surrounded with magitech.

You'll admit that the train is pretty up there for what's a commercial transport. All the cars have an intercom, lighting, clean(ish) seats, and some kind of climate control, all under a carpeted or chrome finish.

Pretty snazzy.

Still, you're not going to be there; you've got an actual job to do here. So you continue on your way up to the front of the train.

Finally, you make it to the part of the train the average customer isn't supposed to be walking around in. Going a bit further, you make it to what seems to be a heavily reinforced door with an assortment of noises coming out of it. One of which is a man cursing like a sailor.

You walk up to the door and calmly knock on it.

Five seconds later, you bash your fist against the metal repeatedly.

The cursing stops and you hear someone walk up to the door. It gets yanked open, and a graying man smoking a pipe looks at you.

"Didn't you see the sign, blue eyes? 'No civilians past this point'; it's for a reason".

You blanch; did no one seriously tell this guy you were coming?

"I'm not a passenger, I'm John, the Artificer that's helping you out until we get to Shirahoro".

He looks confused, "No one told me that we were picking up help. Whatever, so long as you can use this magitech crap I don't care".

He leaves the door open as he leaves, so you follow through and shut the door behind you. What you enter into is clearly the main engine room for this train. The oven for burning coal coke is straight in front of you, with all the assorted dials and valves you'd expect to see from a steam engine. Around you, strangely enough, is what looks to be a small scale workshop.

"Since you're here, here's your first test," The man walks over to where there's a terminal set into one of the walls. You gather it's probably hooked up to the other magitech systems in the train, "This thing stopped working a while ago, and I need it back up in running before we can leave. Get to work".

He points at the 'problem'. Guess it's time to be the 'solution'. So you walk over to it and take a look.

Then you reach down below the screen and hit the 'ON/OFF' button. The terminal lights up and loads without a problem. There's a very awkward silence in the air, before it's interrupted by a chime noise. Curious, you reach out and touch the symbol. What's evidently some kind of playback program loads and a man's voice comes out of a nearby speaker.

"Hey, Naofumi. I know you're probably stuck trying to figure out how to work the machines without Sarah around, but know that we've got some extra help joining us for this leg of the journey. One of them is some kind of Artificer by the name of John. Anyways, I'll be handling the other two. Talk to you later".

You got a pretty good idea of where everything was on your walk here. But you should probably look through the Systems Map first to get a better idea of where everything is.

So you do. And it's a good thing you do because who ever programmed this was very thorough in their work.

The map details every magitech based system on the train, car by car. You quickly note where you can find local access nodes to enter into the system, where all the major wires link up, and the layout of the first class carriages. You're not entirely sure how Sierra and Goo Hwi are handling security detail, but you imagine you can help out.

After looking through it all, you click out and start a up the General Diagnostics Scan.

As it's beginning, you hear someone else knocking at the door. Naofumi gives you a look before returning to work, so you walk over and open the door up.

It's Sierra.

"John! I thought I'd find you here," She looks, almost nervous, her eyes darting around before settling on yours, "Do you have a minute to talk, out here?"

"Yeah, I do," The Scan will run without you, so you walk out with the elf and close the heavy door behind you.

"I'll cut to the chase," Sierra motions for you to join her over on the side of the car, "We met with the Owner and discussed who he believes will be attempting an attack on him and his family during the next day or so. He claims that the Genovese Family has been conflicting against him acquiring some new territory in Shirahoro. Other than that, we don't really know much. What're your thoughts on this".

You keep your poker face up as much as you can.

Because you do have a thought about this: you used to work for the Genovese Syndicate.

The family that managed to drag your comatose corpse out of Westmire has ties to the Genovese Syndicate. They used those ties to set up a new life for themselves, and you ended up working for them because they needed an Artificer who could be trusted to keep their damn mouth shut and you need a job to survive. You spent several years working for them through short-term contracts. After building up enough experience, you left to avoid getting too deep in with what's essentially a mafia. Considering you were always professional, and never attempted to betray them, most of the major players in Airgird didn't mind you leaving. You currently have a semi-friendly relation with the family, though some of them aren't too happy with you.

Was playing around with Hero Forge and made a Fantasy Tactical Force Team.

Description:

Thankfully, you're saved from further awkwardness by a muted chime through the door. Asking for Sierra to give you a second, you walk back into the workshop and approach the terminal.

For the most part, things look alright. There's a few bits of minor maintenance you'll need to do, and already one complaint about the climate control not working in one of the cars, but you've got all the tools and spare parts you could need here with you.

You decide to deal with the complaint first. So you pull out your Toolbox, grab some spare parts and toss 'em in, and leave your bag in the workshop. However, as you're about to leave, something ticks in your memory and you check the terminal again to be sure.

It's a good thing you do, because there's no terminals aside from this one. The rest of the magitech is routed through nodes placed in each of the cars.

You quickly realize that you're going to need a Gauntlet of some sorts to interface with those nodes. Going through the inventory of the workshop, you quickly find a basic frame and screen that you can attach to it and get to work.

He laughs at a joke he didn't make and you let him pass without a word. Walking away while whistling to himself out of tune, the elf sits himself down on the other side of the car.

You don't pay him anymore mind, as you walk through to the next car and immediately see a poor staff member trying and failing to placate an irate passenger.

While she does that, you head over to the access port. It's in a hole in the wall closet close to the doorway leading to the next car. A, human, man exits what appears to be the food car and walks past you with his lunch. You open the door to the closet and slip in.

A dim light flickers on in response to the movement as you look around the room. Part of the wall is open, exposing a line of neatly tied together wiring running out of sight. You quickly find the access port and, after pulling a connecting cable out of your toolbox that you aquired from the workshop, you jack in.

Turning on your screen, you find yourself at yet another list of options.

The Scan runs and for a second everything's fine. Then you hear a spark go off somewhere and the scan reports that there is an issue between the connection go the control node and the Climate Control.

It's probably just faulty wiring. Grabbing your screwdriver, you loosen and remove the metal plate covering the rest of the control node.

It's pretty obvious what the issue is, as there's a line sparking right infront of you. Thinking fast, you disable the power to that line and it stops before anything gets damaged.

And that's when you notice that something has been added in between the node and the wiring leading outbound. Some kind of device is acting as a filter, and it's attached straight to the control node.

It was evidently a rushed job, since the wiring to the Climate Control wasn't done properly. The device might be important to the workings of this system, but it wasn't on the Systems Map when you looked at it.

Putting the screwdriver down for now, you grab your wirecutters and, after checking which wires go with what, get to work.

Getting the device out isn't too hard, after cutting the wires you easily slide it out of place. Putting it to the side for now, you grab some spare wiring, some wire caps, and the electrical tape. In no time at all, all the wires are secured. You flip the power back on to make sure nothing explodes, which it doesn't, and then try the Climate Control once again. This time, it reacts without a problem and in the background you can hear the machine activate.

After screwing the cover plate back on and disconnecting yourself from the node, you think about what to do. Your first instinct is to tear into the thing, but then you hear a set of footsteps approaching the door and settle for throwing the device into your toolbox with all the other spare parts.

You finish packing up as Sierra opens the door to the closet. You're about to say something when the entire train lurches forwards and begins to move.

"Ah, I have to go back to meet up with Goo Hwi now. Just wanted to let you know that the customer didn't cause any other issues. I'll see you later," She gives you a wave goodbye and you return it without saying anything.

The train's moving now, and odds are you probably won't be able to convince Naofumi to stop it on a bad feeling and some piece of junk.

What does interest you, however, is the show of force now on display. At some point during your work, a team of 'security contractors' must have gotten onboard. Each one is armored in full, carrying a Clockwork Automatic Rifle, a small pistol, and a knife.

They must have been informed about you, because they don't bother you as you walk past their stations.

Finally making it to the workshop, you lock the door behind you and sit down at the workbench. You can hear Naofumi working by the engine, but you don't think he'll be too interested in what you're doing.

Carefully, you bring out the device and place it on the workspace.

You're very tempted to browse those files, but then you notice that there's traffic on the network. Making sure you're doing this all as the datalink, you access the network.

"-e's the elf mage. Running what's supposed to be extra security along with the Old Man. Bishop reported that the gal is a mage, and minor telepath, and that there's something odd about the old guy. Based on the cam footage I'd say he's the biggest threat so Dozer you'll be taking him on once we go loud. Keep watching those cams we have set up, see if you can't figure out what exactly his deal is".

There's a low grunt from someone else on the line.

"The last of the additional group is a human Artificer. I wouldn't worry about him, our contact reports that he should be kept plenty busy keeping the Head Engineer from busting every bit of Magitech on this train".

"I don't see why I can't just nab the guy," Another voice speaks up.

"Right now," The original speaker talks again, "We need him to keep everything from crashing down on our heads. Once we're closer to the op time, go for it. Don't fuck this up Creep".

"Such little confidence in me, Rider, you're gonna hurt me".

The line clicks dead, and you quickly get off the network before you're noticed.

You put the device down and put our head in your hands.

The clock built into your gauntlet tells you it's almost 1 pm. You have about eighteen hours before a team of unknown mercenaries, who are specifically targeting Sierra and Goo Hwi while having both under surveillance, go for broke.

You can feel the sweat begin to trickle down your neck, and you swallow deeply.

This is going to be a long night.

So a Martini-Henry is what I'm thinking. Used the .577 Snider cartridge round. Which means the bullet the thing that hits the person is .577 of a inch big.

Single rounds have bigger rounds, since you don't have to deal with follow up shot recoil.

Essentially, yes. Remember that automatic weapons are just ones that chamber the next round for you rather than having you do it manually.

Something to keep in mind is that different areas will use different kinds of weapons. Back in the beginning, you were out in the middle of no where, so most people rely on simple melee weapons due to their ease of use, durability, and relatively low maintenance. As you get closer to Industrialized areas, such as the city we're traveling to, you will see higher and higher tech levels.

The code file is going to be the hardest for you to deal with, since you have almost no experience writing codes, so you figure you'll go with it first.

Opening the file on it's own almost gives you a headache what with how the entire thing is just line after line of assorted numbers and letters. Your head hurts just looking at the mess. So, after thinking for a second, you try the only other thing you can think of and test run the code.

That's a good idea, because you get a whole load of errors. That's not the unexpected part, since it's probably programmed to use the local maintenance port files as part of its coding. No, what interests you are two specific errors:

> ERROR: EXTERNAL FILE: "EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM OVERRIDE Controls" NOT FOUND.

With a general idea to go on, you head back to the raw coding file and start scanning it again. You get another headache, but you kinda understand what's going on. This datalink was supposed to act as kind like a door stop, a way to keep backdoor access to the manual overrides available to the person slaving this datalink while not being in the same room as the access node.

You're not entirely sure what they would do with those two specific controls, but you might have a general idea.

Next up is the audio file. Your gauntlet's screen has a small speaker built into the side of it, with which you listened in on the merc's conversation, so you simply turn down the volume, press play, and hold the speaker up to your ear like before.

The file is programmed to loop on itself, so you close out of the playback program.

You jack back out of the datalink and put it to the side.

Despite the fact that the mercs are probably watching their every move, you really need to meet up with Sierra and Goo Hwi. It'll be good for Sierra to know what's happening and if Goo Hwi is prepared when the mercs hit the train the odds will be far further in your favor than they are currently.

Plus, you have an... err... interesting... idea for how to get Sierra alone and out of sight of the mercs to get her in on what's going on. She can just send the info to Goo Hwi from there.

Remember that power armor implies more than just a set of armor with a power source; there's those servos set up alongside your arms and legs that help with weight management and load bearing. Thing is, isn't the surveillance cameras the train's that they've hijacked the signal of? What I was suggesting was a plan where we pretend to bung up a maintenance check where we 'accidentally' short circuit or otherwise break all the cameras. That way their coordinator won't have any eyes in the cars which leaves them without vital intel, which will make their job much more difficult. If they remain in radio silence, the thugs on the ground won't know. If they break it, we increase the chance of them making mistakes and that works in our favor.

You take a look around the room while the program does it's thing. It's hard to tell, but you can't see any evidence of any cameras or any tampering with the room in general.

You think the room is clean, but you're not entirely sure.

That's when the Diagnostic Scan finishes up with a quiet ding. This captures your attention nicely and you check your gauntlet's screen to see what it's found.

Everything is in working order, which is good because it means that you fixed the wiring properly. Unfortunately, the scan doesn't find any bugs in the room, or in the car for that matter.

However, the scan does alert you that the local system logged something. Opening up the full log, it's evident that whoever is running the other team's ware accessed the system. It takes a bit for you to decipher the technobabble of the log, but you manage to reach a conclusion from it.

In a sense of the word, a dry run happened. The merc accessed the system, disabled all outputs, played an audio file over the intercom, flipped the emergency breaks for the car on, then reset everything and logged off.

You're getting a better idea for what will happen at 9 am tomorrow morning, but something just doesn't add up to you.

You know that the mercs are setting up to take down Sierra and Goo Hwi. According to their plan, you'll already be out of the equation by that point.

You also know, from their conversation, that they plan to take down your party members overtly. And that's where things don't add up.

Their objective is to kidnap the Owner of the trainline and his family. So why would they take overt action? Wouldn't it be a smarter choice to go in covertly, avoid confrontation with the security teams and your party entirely?

Instead, they're planning an extremely loud operation. And you don't like how that sits with you.

You can have plenty of time to mull things over by yourself later. For now, you really need to warn Sierra about what's going on.

How you're going to do that is still pretty ad hoc, but hopefully the plan is stupid enough to work. Gathering your belongings, you leave that maintenance closet and continue further into the first-class cars.

Sierra never mentioned exactly where in first-class they were set up, but you have the general layout of the area down pat.

The extra-large, VIP room with four guards outside of it is probably a good indicator of where the Owner is.

You walk straight up to the group, and while they stop you, you get cleared to go through with another quick comm call.

Being instructed to simply walk in, you do so. The scene in front of you is odd, to say the least. Sierra is off on a side chair looking slightly bored but still attentive, Goo Hwi is sitting at a large table drinking a glass of tea, and the last person in the room must be the Owner.

And it's hard to miss him; the rich bastard looks like someone stuffed an egg in a suit.

"Oh, oh! You must be the Artificer I've heard so much from Hwi here! John, right? Come in, come in, join us!"

Unfortunately, you need to keep up appearences. You're rignt in the middle of the survallience grid, so it's a fake smile for you.

"I am John, correct" His smile matches yours as you begin speaking, and it exceeds it when you continue, "And you must be the Owner I've heard so much about!"

You walk up, switch which hand is holding the toolbox, and offer your hand for him to shake. For a moment, he looks down are your calloused, scarred hand, what's barely concealed disgust appears on his face before being smothered under another fake smile. He takes your hand and gives you what's most likely a hard shake from his point of view. It would probably be to you as well, if all the extra meat in his hand didn't cushion yours.

The fake smile bordering on a condescending sneer, the bombastic dress, and the handshake attempting to establish dominance all meld together and the moment feels very... nostalgic to you.

The moment vanishes and you wish it never returns.

"I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm a bit busy right now. In fact I'm here to borrow Sierra if you don't mind" The elf in question looks positively delighted at the prospect of getting a break while the Owner just nods you off.

He and Goo Hwi go back to their talk, and you motion to Sierra, "You ready to go?"

"Yes I am," She sounds almost desperate to get out of the room for a reprieve, and you're starting to feel bad about the news you're going to have to break to her.

The two of you leave the VIP room and begin to walk towards the car you came from. You silently hold the door to the next car open for her, checking to make sure no one is following either of you.

She gives you an odd look but, perhaps sensing the mood, doesn't say anything.

"I need you help me out with one of the access nodes," You motion towards the maintenance closet.

"What do you need me to help you with?"

"You'll know when we get in there," Once again, you hold open the door for her and she walks in first.

You follow behind her, but turn and lock the door. The sound of the deadbolt being thrown sound like thunder ringing throughout the enclosed space.

Sierra is in the middle of questioning what you're doing when you turn off the lights. Her slight panic is cut off as you march straight up to her and push her up against the wall.

The two of you are scant inches away from one another, the low light just barely giving you a glimpse of Sierra's unnerved expression.

It doesn't last long, because you lean forwards, her face going out of view as you move your lips dangerously close to her long, pale neck up to her pointed ears.

It's hard to see in the low light, but to someone like Sierra the compact mess of wires and circuits gets the message across easily enough, "This device, a datalink, was keeping a backdoor to the node's local overrides open for someone to access remotely. Basically, someone had free access to unrestricted control over the local control systems. I got rid of this thing, and brought it back to the engineering workshop. From there, I got lucky and intercepted a comm call among the four working mercs involved here. They go by Rider, Dozer, Bishop, and Creep. Remember that sleazy looking elf that almost ran into me with his food? That's Creep; he's the guy that's going to try to take me out. Based on their chatter, it sounds like they're going to stick Dozer on Hwi and Rider is on extract duty; which means you'll be facing down Bishop. At 0900 tomorrow morning, they're going to go loud against you two. If we let them have their way, that's what's going to happen".

You stop and look at Sierra. She seems to want to not believe you, but the look in your eyes tells her otherwise. She nods, and you continue.

"Now, I'm trying to put a plan together to get the drop on those four. I can take care of Creep on my own, probably, because it sounds like it's going to be a 1 on 1. I know we never got a chance to talk about this, but what exactly are the extent of your mage abilities?"

She looks surprised, but recovers quickly enough, "I mainly use my telepathy to send people messages, it's not sophisticated enough to do much else with. Other than that, I know a basic Firebolt spell and this..."

Looking to where she's raised her hand, you have to refrain from jumping when lightning arcs across her palm.

You look at her with a deadpan, "You have a hand taser spell".

Sierra shrugs, "It's useful".

Shaking your head, you take another step back to give her more room, "Now that I've told you all this, is there anything that sticks out at you? Anything at all, no matter how small?"

Looking to the side in thought, she hums lightly to herself, "Can't say I have, honestly. Aside from when I went to visit how you were doing, I've been over here in this section of the train. The only issue I've had was when a guard tried to follow me into the restroom; that was awkward".

Well, guess it was worth a shot. Oh well.

"The important thing is that you're aware of what's going on. I'll try to get in contact with you again if something else major happens. For now, though, wait until tonight to send Goo Hwi a message. It looks like you pass out when you use it, so doing it right before you go to sleep will be the most convincing".

She nods in agreement. Well, there goes the easy part; time for the hard part.

"There is one last thing I need for you to do: I need you to make it look like the two of us just made out".

The look Sierra gives you practically screams 'no', but you keep talking anyways, "Look, those mercs have you under surveillance. If they suspect that you now know what you do, they're going to get spooked. I'd rather them think we just spent the last five minutes having a closet make out session than have them change all their plans on us".

The two of you spend the next several minutes messing with the other's hair. It's a bit awkward since you're both right in front of one another, but at least Sierra's hair feels nice. She spends a bit of extra time messing with your blonde hair, so you imagine she's enjoying this somewhat as well. Lipstick marks are out, since Sierra's not wearing lipstick at the moment and doesn't have any on her. Instead, she yanks on the collar of your shirt and it gives a bit of the same effect.

You can't help yourself as she goes to unlock the door and leave before you, "Don't forget to smile for the camera, Sierra".

She actually flips you off behind her back before opening the door and walking out. You make sure to be pretending to be working on the node, but it's not required as there is no one immediately outside. The door closes, and you're back alone.

You should go get that minor maintenance out of the way, before the situation escalates to the point where you can't worry about it.

There's paneling that needs replacement further down the train, wiring that needs securing at one of the couplings at the last car, and lastly you need to make sure that Naofumi hasn't broken anything in the engine room.

That last bit wasn't actually part of the diagnostics scan, it was on a note pinned up next to the terminal.

Since you're down here, you should go to the first two first.

Traveling to the next car down, you quickly head to the maintenance closet to grab the spare bit of paneling, then head over to where the issue is.

It's not hard to figure out what the problem is, as there's a part of the walling that is heavily damaged from something slamming into it.

Making sure that there's nothing behind the paneling, you pull out your Multitool and get to work.

It's your first time utilizing this tool, but damn if it isn't a good one.

In no time at all, you've got the entire bit of the wall cut out and on the floor. It only takes you a few minutes to get the replacement walling cut and in place. From there, it's a simple manner to weld the new piece on.

By the end, the wall is fixed, though for a certain definition of fixed. At some point, someone is going to need to come and replace the entire wall if they want it to look how you assume it once looked like, but the job is done so you move on

You get to the very end of the train, to where the coupling holds the last first-class car and the caboose together.

There's a man who you guess is the guy responsible for the caboose, but aside from smoking and giving you a nod he does nothing else.

Regardless, you jack into the access node here, figure out where the loose wiring is, and get to securing it.

That in and of it self is pretty easy, though you do notice another datalink here.

"What this sounds like to me," The respondent, who you assume is the man behind hiring the mercs, "Is that you want out. You'll be doing this for 10 gold, or you can kiss your reputation back in Shirahoro goodbye for trying to rip your clients off".

"Cut the bullshit. You're the last person to be talking about a loss of reputation in this room" The original speaker sounds pissed, and given how the 'client' just threatened him you don't blame him, "I'll say again, 20 gold".

"Done, pleasure doing business with you".

The file ends there, on a rather harsh note.

"No changes to the mission, this time. No..." You can't help but feel nervous at what is to come. The client spends a moment to collect his thoughts before speaking, "I met up with the freelancers. I do not care what you do to the elf or the old man. However, I ask that you kill the human Artificer".

"Sir? May I ask why?" Rider sounds genuinely surprised.

There's an inhale, "He... disgusts me... Kill him, make it gruesome. I have given the security company the same order, so you may work with them on this matter. That is all".

The line goes dead, and static returns.

"Well," She just sounds resigned now, "At least Creep will be happy with the news..."

That's the last audio file.

Firstly there is practical hurdle of what to do with passengers of the car we'd hijack and secondly the problems we would probably get into with local authorities.

There shouldn't be need to scout the last car as we presumably went through it while purging the bugs, OP can just clarify how viable John considers the plan to hijack it.

In any case, if the eggman has already instructed both the hitmen and the mercs to take us out, our first priority should probably be to prepare a gadget or two from available parts for our batbelt in case they decided to make their move earlier.

Just going by what has happened so far, those soldiers tried to kill everyone at the ruins because we knew what "our country now possess" or something. He's either a weak chain or learned something he shouldn't have. You don't hide from a mob by hiring a mob, talk about having a gun to your head. You realize your plan can mean that not only do we lose our allies, who so far seem to be nice people not OK with this, but that they can tell others that we're a straight up menace and have to deal with all the shit that entails right?

Show me details of your plan, tell us how you want to go about doing this and that you've thought about both the good and the bad consequences. I'm not writing your ideas off I want you to improve them.

okay, since we are both being calm and rational about this, then here is the bare bones of my plan and I can go from here.

one is we disassemble the datalinks. with a good roll this will give us the ability to make them and possibly modify our gauntlet to acces them remotely

2 if one is done and we can access them remotely, then we place them back in the original spots with our own programing not thiers.

3. we get whatever this EXO data is and then we are free to do as we wish

this is where the plan diverges

4A] is we beat those who try to kill us and expose egg man, we win and we get their hand him to police

4B] we fail our combat but bluff our way through eggman with saying we put multiplcopies of the recordings with unknowing passengers and if we die they get sent

4C] we have no choise but to escape and then we use the remote function to cause havock while us and ours escape.

the well fair of civilians is not our concern so if we have to hurt a few people to get what we want or help our friends so be it. this is my view and plan, thoughts?

my view wont make us a lot of friends but my plans are for when shit goes so far south we start going north again

The major problem here is that we likely don't have enough time or even the necessary skill to modify the gauntlet much less reprogram the datalinks.

We now know that instead of four opponents, we have the entire security detail on the train against us as well, and we know that those guys are equipped with rifles at the very least if I am reading >>1738605 correct. If we start a confrontation or wait until the time of the op we are way up shit creek. Honestly our best bet to reach the station is to take the Owner hostage and clear out the car or barricade ourselves in one but then we'll just get killed at the station or taken prisoner by the police. "All" we'd have to do is get out of the train and run like hell. The assassins may or may not follow us depending on if they'll just complete their initial contract for reduced pay. Chances are they will split up, maybe some of the security goons join them. Best chance at getting away without being framed for anything that happens afterwards.
