Hello again fellow creators and questers. It's been a while since I've had the time to do this, but finally I have a period of time to pick up my EvoGame series. For today I'm going to be putting the story of the Moon Worlds Janus and Rienia to the backburner to revisit/finish the story of my previous world: Essari. Rules and goals of this EvoGame are still mostly the same, but with some new twists, such as an actual OP/player driven story.

As GM, I'll do my best to actively work on phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also make random events for the world to drive evolution down new paths. Since I've done this a few times now, and taken the time to observe/lurk on other EvoGames, I've picked up a few new tricks to keep everything organized and streamline too.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Details indicating what the generation of your species is important. Please indicate. (Base Organisms are Generation 0)
• Details regarding a creatures size or name aren't necessary, but are encouraged.
• Nothing too outlandish. Anything incredibly silly or outlandish will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic in biological standards.
• Everyday I'll add an update Phylogeny Chart to track changes. These take awhile, so please be patient.
• Every 72-96 hours there will be a New Event: The Emra Evolution. (More details on that in a later post.)
• This will be Thread 1 of 6 for the Return to Essari series, before we return to the Moon Worlds series.

New to the Game?:
• I know that I will be introducing a large number of creatures that may make hopping into this game a little daunting, but trust me when I say I've made sure to leave you with the tools to understand all the old organisms, and all new organisms will be welcomed with open arms.

--Recent World Changes--
A satellite of the Librarian's pings back to life as after a catalysmic extinction event in the form of burning lava fields fueled by generations of decomposing trees, chokes the atmosphere of Essari in black soot for almost a million years. Overtime though the atmosphere brightened and aftermath of the extinction on Essari became apparent. All but a few dozen organisms managed to survive the million year long cataclysm. The cost to the environments of Essari is heavy though, as much of the common clades of life such as the Braffbergs, Crystalline organisms, Disclodites, Rainetails, and even the ancient base organisms of the world have now permanently disappeared. What's more we are now introduced to a colder, drier Essari featuring permanent ice caps at both poles for the first time in its history. These surviving organisms endured a million years of literal hell, and they will endure and thrive in this new world.

Yet still, something lurks in the skies of Essari. Something eldritch, and every bit at durable as the individual organisms of Essari. And it would call itself Emra.

With the dying off of many species of plants and animals, among them the Sweetsprints, the surviving Biped Grabrafs find themselves under an enormous evolutionary pressure. Only two plant species growing their main source of nutrition, braffifruit, remain and their source of guidance to this food, the sweetsprints, are now long gone.

As a result the Biped Grabraf diverge in several different evolutionary directions (Other evo's to be posted below soon).

With less nutrients available and the Sweetsprints gone, most Biped Grabrafs' have had their energy-stealing brains shrink. As a result they instead walk on all fours, like primates found on earth. They evolve teeth-like serrations on their beaks, allowing them to bite off, and feed on plant-life in times of desperations.

Large herds of these Grabrafs, the Hurku'ans, roam Sujardin, across the plains, between its forests. In a way they've taken up the niche left by the Sweetsprints.

In the times of need now passed, some Biped Grabrafs added other Biped Grabrafs to their diet. In times of desperation and need, these Grabrafs survived by feeding on already dead corpses of their kin, and by also preying on them.

As a result of this diet, these Grabrafs are slightly larger as well as more aggressive and intelligent (about the level of a Thinking Grabraf) than their predecessors.

The Brutish Grabraf now survive by stalking other Grabraf herds/packs, and turning dug-up braffitree saplings into crude concussive weapons.

Other Biped Grabrafs survived by becoming smaller. The Nomad Grabraf has isolating fur covering it entire body and large cheek-pouches, where it can store and carry food while freeing up both hands. Sticks are sometimes used, since full cheeks can make them somewhat top-heavy.

The Nomad Grabrafs are usually found living in pairs.

Some Bloomgrass have evolved a way of more easily reproducing. The center point becomes a nectar-producing storage. This nectar is then used to attract animals to drink from the plant, coming in contact with its sporangium-stalks. The animal then unknowingly carries these spores off.

With the other Braffitree species of Sujardin gone, some Sujardian Braffitree, found in the centers of forests evolve to become larger.

A mutation to beat potential competitors for the sun's light, the underside of its caps starts to shed, creating hanging fibrous structures that are made up of both dead and living material/cells.

The Plains Broulder is a larger and more flat-shaped off-shoot of the Sujardian Broulder.
This broulder is primarily found on the plains of Sujardin, as its name suggests.

During the night it lies down in a state similar to sleep, looking like a small hill to most wild-life.

Some Sabretails on Nihiloram have specialized to hunting panzerg Lords by growing larger and more muscular. They hunt their prey in packs, their large sabre-teeth capable of piercing the less thick parts of the Panzerg's armor.

--World Event: The Rise of Emra, Last of the Braffbergs.--
A couple million years have passed now, and based on the scans of my satellites, the world's ecology has begun to slowly settle into the new Essarian landscape, without the environmentally influencing Braffbergs of the previous two eras. Their has been something amiss though in these last few millenniums, and that something has been leaving behind a path of barren ground. Acres of forests and grasslands and wildlife that lives on different continents their uprooted entirely, leaving behind nothing more than dry earth and stone. These areas recover over a few decades, but the perpetrator of this mass consumption of wildlife keeps on moving, and in time the satellites watching Essari finally find it.

It is a Braffberg, or very closely resembles one, though it is no bigger than a 150 metres across that would appear to be following a rudimentary path across the landmasses and oceans of Essari where the biomass of life is particularly high. What's more it would appear that this Braffberg may be an amalgamation of remnants of the four giant Braffbergs of old, having some physical traits or characteristic seen from each Braffberg colony. What these satellites cannot see though is that this particular Braffberg has not just evolved as a fusion of these four Braffbergs, and its movements are not just some rudimentary pattern. This Braffberg has attained a first in evolution on Essari: Sentience. At the moment it is a very simple, primitive; and yet this Braffberg has come to realize itself in world and has begun to seek out all there is to know about its world. And its journey, the Braffberg pondered on what it is called, and after a while it came to its conclusion, now calling itself Emra.

--World Impact--
Emra is globally endemic organism capable of travelling across all the landmasses in around 1 year. This organisms is omnivorous, and feeds on anything and everything that gets to close to its feeding tentacles. More importantly though, is that it learns a little something from every encounter with Essari's ecology, and slowly begins to catalogs those encounters in a form of long-term memory. In addition, it has specialized tendrils for gathering up plant and animal life to observe up close, before deciding whether to eat it, release it, or keep it.

Lastly, Emra is NOT an organisms you creators can evolve, but you are more than free to evolve your own organisms around it.

The serpentine lower body of the Red Throat Tripod of those originating from the plains of Panoram have become much longer and muscular, allowing them to lift themselves higher to survey their surrounding, as well as remain upright while slithering.

Looked at previous thread, and they do have photoreceptors on their antennae. Now they're visible on the tips as compound eyes.

The Hurku'an Grabrafs adapt further to their quadrupedal life. Their back feet change sligthly in shape and the toes of these feet get cowered in a thick keratinous layer, creating something resembling split hooves.

Their fur also changes color, making them stand out less against the grassy fields.

As a result of the thinking Grabrafs being very social and slow to reproduce, raising their young i parental pairs and the extended group, they eventually evolve significant sexual dimorphism.

The physical prowess of the females is traded for a body more adapted to carrying a fertilized egg for a longer time before it is laid. As a result the female's hips become wider and storages of fat are developed. All for the development a healthy, well-developed egg and a hatchling that is more likely to survive.

Once layed, the Thinking Grabraf's egg is carried by the male parent until it hatches.

Some other red-throats, found on Nihiloram develop red combs on the top of their heads (of similar stuff as their throats). This serves as an alternative way to communicate, and signals the mood of the creature to others of its species. The redder it is, the more excited, and the darker it is, the more enraged. (Sort of similar to how facial expressions work in the case of humans.)

Some Dropper Pouchytails grow more adapted to their aerial lifestyle. These Dropper Pouchytails grow sleeker and spend a larger portion of their lives in the air, gliding on thermal updrafts.

The Sujardian Braffitree starts growing off-shoot trees from its roots, while also continuing to get larger. While making the Braffitree reproduce quicker, it also allows the plant to regrow quicker from the root-system after forest fires and other destructive events.

With the development of the stronger Sabretails, the weaker Panzerg Lords of Nihiloram have been weeded out, leaving those with the toughest armor. When threatened now, they will form into circles back-to-back, protecting their more vulnerable backsides

Being small can make an animal quite versatile. Due to this small populations of the Nomad Grabraf can be found living in almost every environment found in region 2.

Surviving by foraging for fruit and hiding from predators has with time selected for grey fur, standing out less in most environments, as well as the smarts to learn and take into consideration possible events based on past experiences. Due to this, these Nomad Grabrafs may be considered one of the, if not the most intelligent Grabrafs.

In the mountains the Nomads can be found temporarily settling caves and feeding on the fruits of the cavernous braffibush. On the grass plains, they often find refuge and a source of sustenance on the backs of unsuspecting Broulders >>1743566 .

The Nomad grabrafs start to gather grass and/or fibers from Braffitrees >>1743545 , depending on the habitat that they are currently residing in. Out of this, crude camouflague is fashioned and worn. The skill of doing this is taught from adults to youths, similar to how orangutans or chimpanzee learn from their previous generation.

Some Wooded Trapfeesh migrate to the Torray Isles, taking residence in the mangroves there. They specialize in a similar niche to the Knifeesh, using their smaller size and better maneuverability to hunt in shallow wetlands and especially in densely tangled mangrove roots. They quickly unfurl their jaws to "trap" prey, as it were, making up for their slower speed.

The undersides of skyzol become soft and stretchy, which allows them to take in more methane from the fluffbubbles, which in turn allows them to support the weight of additional sproutlings on their backs.

In addition, some of the same bacteria from inside fluffbubbles adapt to the conditions of the skyzol digestive system, directly supplying the floating arthropods with their flight-enabling gas.

The back digit on the front limbs of bubblesoras become elongated, and the wing membrane attaches to it, at last giving them wings capable of true flight. Swarms of these tiny fliers even swarm Emra when the opportunity arises.

Feeding on the crystal plants found on the Torine chain has caused some Grabby Pouchytails to mutate, giving them smaller tails as well as an extra set of limbs. These Hexapedal Pouchytails, as a result, have had their flight abilities severly reduce. They are unable to fly for more than shorter distances, limiting them to the Torine chain and region 4.

As time has passed, the Brutish grabraf has diverged into two seperate races. In the forests the more mild-tempered race lives. They have evolved large beaks and hearing organs (the purple thing above the beak). Using this they can easily communicate throughout the forest, their large beaks amplifying the sound of their hoots and toots.

On the plains a more predatory race of Brutish Grabraf can be found. These Plains Grabrafs have started using rocks as crude melee and ranged weapons, but also as tools to break the bones of carcasses, accessing their bone-marrow.

The plains grabrafs are highly war-like, often fighting amongst themselves for dominances within their groups and even going as far as sometimes preying on weak (Old, young, sick, etc) and solitary Rainetails. Due to this, a regular Plains Grabraf's life is often violent and short, most of them being scarred over much of their bodies.

Meanwhile at the top north of Nihiloram, some Feroctails decided to live permanently in the cold due to adaptations to permanent winter:
They are slightly bigger, thicker fur grow on their skin, and loose skin at their stomach and throat act as fat reservoir in case of food penury.

Also, I assume the white zones near the poles are ice/snow, since there are no indications on the map.

Some Dropper Pouchytails begin to take up a more specialised diet and become hematophagous (meaning they feed on the blood of other animals). To aid in this they develop long sharp incisors that allow them to easily cut through the skin of their target to get at their blood and grow curved claws on their fingers/toes which allow them to cling to their prey while they feed. Their saliva also develops as to both dull the pain produced by their actions and slow the clotting of blood so that their prey is both less likely to notice them and so that they may feed for longer.

This new variety is called the Vampire Pouchytail

Some Sujardian Braffitree evolve into "mother trees", Braffidrassils. These are generally found in the center of forests, being the heart from which much of the forest has sprung forth from and can trace it descendence from. The numbers of Brafidrassils present in a forest vary depending on the forest's size and age. Generally there's one to three in a medium-sized forest, but in the largest, oldest and most undisturbed forest, there can exist up to a dozen (12), or more.

Aside from being a source of forest regrowth (Once Emra >>1747175 passes by, for example), they also serve as a haven for life. Their large branches make suitable homes for the Pouchytail's nest >>1743451 , a place for the Nomad Grabrafs >>1748041 to climb up and find refuge, and much more.

The Hurku'an Grabraf adapts further to the herd-life on the grassy plains. Its stomach becomes somewhat able to break down regular plants, allowing it to graze on grass. Its body also adapts to quickly moving about on all fours when being attacked, the front knuckles becoming tougher and the hind legs becoming more muscular. It can still grasp stuff with its front hands and pull out roots and such when necessary, but they've slowly become less and less dexterous, degenerating more and more towards just being front feet..

The male Hurku'an Grabraf Evolve small tusks that they use to compete for mates and fend off predators.

The Bahawa diverge into a new species, dubbed the Fingered Bahawa. Developing muscled tendril like fingers at the tips of their fins, the Bahama are able to grab hold of prey when they come in for the kill as if hugging them.

In addition, the light blue parts are sensitive to the currents of the sea, allowing the Fingered Bahawa to better navigate the ocean then it's sister species.

The Hexaped Pouchytail adapts to life on the crystal/mineral-rich Torine chain. Due to facing no natural predators, its face changes, losing its cheekpouches and ability to fly. Instead it now nests on the ground or climb up to nest on braffi-plants. Through glands on its chest it releases excess minerals and crystal as fine, temporarily moldable threads. Using its two tongues it shapes them into crystal structures, ornamenting its nest.

In the desert/arid regions of Panoram a strain of the Eggfruit tree has evolved. It has lost its side-branches and shrunk slightly, a result of the heat and a lack of available water. Its water-filled trunk, however, makes this organism well adapted to its new environment.

Some Panzerg lords have become solitary scavangers of edible plants in the panoramian deserts. They have evolved a lighter coloring as protection against the heat of the sun, as well as a thin layer of blonde hairs on its two back-carapaces.

The Scavanger Pouchytails however bring a nasty plague along with them. The Crystal Mosquito's find animals in other regions fitting prey/hosts to their eggs, when they are not pestering the Scavanger Pouchytails. The bite of this new mosquito brings nasty, crystal-induced diseases on the new prey/hosts, having not evolved a resistance against the crystals' effects, like that of their cousins found in region 4.

This strain is called of Crystal Mosquitos are called Crystal Serpents.

Evolving from Essarian grass, the tall grass is much the same as its predecessor. The only difference being it being able to grow much taller and occasionaly sprouting small false flowers.

Adapting further to its new lifestyle, the Stitchtail loses its flight-membranes as well as its backplates. Investing calcium for protection is simply a bad move when it instead can be included in the structures created by the stitchtail.

The Stitchtail now creates nests out of this crystal-mineral material and surrounds its perifiery with a spikey fence, made out of the same material.

--Emra Evolution 1: Autonomous Anchor Nodes--

Over the millions of years since its discovery, Emra has been steadily growing in size due to its highly efficient means of utilizing nutrients towards its overall growth. In addition, the excess nutrients Emra does not end up using is stored inits jelly-like exterior layer of braffimass for later consumption, or possibly consumption for any daring organisms.

In this time though Emra has begun to reconfigure its physiology & biology, looking first at its reproduction. In previous iterations of the Braffberg colonies, reproduction was done in large part by sowing seeds, or budding new Braffberg infants on its outermost external layer. Emra has no need to divide itself into a number of disorganized Braffberg colonies, but instead has created a new reproduction system that is directly beneficial to its primary body. As Emra has taken time to travel around Essari, it has found many favorable spots rich in biomass and resources where it will drop an AA-Node (roughly the size of a small car). Roughly 400-600 of these AA-Nodes can be found throughout Essari where there is a rich plethora of life and nutrients available to it.

These nodes will take root, and quickly grow to cover a large area, if left alone the AA-node will continue to grow to an upper limit of around 3 kilometers. These AA-Nodes autonomously collect samples, resources, and nutrients. Like Emra, these AA-Nodes leave much of their stored nutrients in its jelly-like exterior layer, making it a rather nutritious meal for both herbivores and carnivores; although this would leave the feeding organism vulnerable to the watchful eye of the AA-Node, and the potential of it retaliating. When Emra later returns to this area, it will anchor itself to the AA-Node by tethering to the primary tendril to collect these resources, and send evolution update instructions to the AA-Node.

While linked the AA-Node and Emra can communicate via a type of language that could be comparable to a computer binary language. Though Emra's language is simple in nature now, it may likely become more efficient as it evolves, and Emra has chosen to always save information on past versions for the sake of communicating with any outdated AA-Nodes.


--Impact to Organisms--
> AA-Nodes do not actively decimate a habitat unlike Emra when it passes through, but rather passively gathers resources and consumes any life that may end up being too sedentary to move away from it.

Sproutlings remain mostly the same, except they develop a layer of microcosopical hairs that surrounds their skin, creating a bubble of sorts that fills itself with oxygen, acting like a massive, exterior lung that let's them breathe underwater, or possibly anywhere that has atleast a small amount of oxygen available

With prey and predators on Nihiloram growing larger and fierce, the Cocky Tripods must adapt as well. Necessity is the mother of invention, thus the Cocky Tripod grow more intelligent, becoming capable of planning ahead. A common way of hunting Nihiloram Landlords >>1748003 is to lure them into valleys/passages with prepared boulders on the cliffs and hills to the sides above, and then pushing the boulders down the hill, crushing and mortally wounding many of the Landlords beneath.

The colder climate also leads to the Cocky Tripod developing isolating hairs on some parts of its body.

In the Forests of region 2 a smaller and more heavily built Broulder has evolved, (as compared to the Plains Broulder >>1743566 ). Its braffitree is much smaller in comparison to its body-size, than that of its predecessor.

This Broulder is much more aggressive and vary than its relative on the plains, often attacking anything in sight that it deems a threat to its foal. Using its great mass it can even fell smaller trees while chasing these creatures.

The Stitchtails lose their tails. Instead they grow more powerful hind legs and more elongated front legs. They now use their four front legs to manipulate and shape the mineral threads into whatever they are creating.

The Stitchers find a food source in feeding on Emra's nodes >>1758231 . Due to this they start living in colonies, their nests being generational. The next generation therefore builds on the structure of its parent, expanding it. The abundance of food found in specific locations has led to the Stitchers expanding to all of Torray.

Living in the Forests of region 2, the Forest Grabraf's arms and legs become elongated to help it climb trees, for food for example. The Forest Grabrafs start showing signs of "sapience", being able to braid crude rope out of Braffitree fibers >>1743545 , painting other pack members with mud during leisure time, as well practicing a burial practice that could be considered ritualistic.

The dead Grabraf is carried by its peers up large braffitrees >>1747826 or braffidrassils >>1751598 , hung from the tree's branches and is then left there in a something that is reminiscent of sky burials found here on earth.

A permanent source of nutrition, and at the price of an occassional sacrifice to the flying eldritch being and its noodly offspring? Where do I sign up?

The available relatively stable source nutrition from feeding off the nodes means that the populations of Stitchers generally found in each colony more than doubles. Living in large groups means being able to handle social interactions between different individuals found in the colony. Therefore the parts of the Stitcher’s brain that handles decision making and “language” comprehension increase in size and complexity.

The Stitchers four frontal arms and fingers also become more elongated and it starts to walk upright. This allows the Stitcher to even better manipulate its mineral string and whatever it is sculpting out of it.


Fluff:
A Stitcher colony consists of mostly close relatives, with all nests being “cousin”-houses to each other. Generally the Stitchers interbreed between the nests of the colony, but males than females are born, resulting in a low number of males moving to other colonies than the ones they were born in. This essentially somewhat limits inbreeding within the colonies.
There’s generally one to two colonies per Emra node, depending on the node’s size. Conflicts between colonies fighting for dominance over this resource is not unusual.
The Stitchers seem relatively unfazed by their food-source occasionally killing some of them, reacting as if this is just a fact of life – To receive you also have to give. Dead Stitchers are usually left on the Nodes, leaving their carcasses to get broken down by the large organisms.

The Scavenger Pouchytails start following Emra more closely, seeking out it's AA nodes. They wait in large circling groups before descending on new nodes to infect them with the Crystal Serpents they carry. The Scavenger Pouchytails will then circle above these AA nodes and wait until they have succumed to the infection before descending to feast upon the gathered nutrients. Their jaws now open much wider to allow the Scavenger Pouchytails to scoop up large amounts of food before they fly back to safer distances to consume it while in flight.

Some Suricin grow in size and develop an thick spiralling shell around much of their body to protect them from other larger predators. To aid in moving their new less manoeuvrable body around, they develop a small jet just under their head which sucks and shoots pressurised water, forcing them forward or backward as the situation requires.

--Emra Evolution 2: Long Range Communication--

In the span of 10 million years, life around Essari has gradually acclimated to the existence of the AA-Nodes and Emra as the Braffberg continues its endless journey across Essari. In this time, Emra has been working to improve its 'computer language' to more efficiently communicate with its AA-Nodes from a long distance. This eventually leads to a restructuring of itself and its AA-Nodes. Emra crystalline back morphs into a large shallow dish, and develops a sensory organ at the base of this dish, that is able to emit a kind of radio wave, allowing it to communicate with its AA-Nodes from a great distance. Using these radio waves it now no longer needs to directly connect with an AA-Node in order to communicate with the Nodes, and relay evolution instruction and information between Emra and the Nodes.

It's AA-Nodes in turn, evolve their main tendril to be armored in a metal alloy that covers its stalk and forming a thin weave around its sensory stalk that is able to collect the radio waves emitted by Emra containing information regarding instructions for evolution, and also communicate back regarding any local threats, regional weather patterns, resources the Nodes have gathered, and other relevant information to Emra's quest for knowledge. While this long range communication between the AA-Nodes and Emra isn't lightning fast, it is able to communicate with a Node on the opposite side of Essari within less than 10 hours. Additionally, the AA-Nodes can also communicate amongst themselves now, using a weaker variant of radio waves, which allows these Nodes to be even more self-sufficient.

To Emra, a few organisms have proved to be 'beneficial' organisms in its study of the Essari's organism, primarily the Stitcher >>1767598 that now live in close proximity to the AA-Nodes of the Torray Isles, providing it with many 'specimens' in the form of its deceased. Because of this the AA-Nodes of the Torray Isles continue to allow the Stitcher to gather food from the Nodes, whilst only occasionally consuming a swath of the Stitchers. Inversely, the Scavenger Pouchytails >>1767715 and Crystal Serpent parasite >>1755136 are viewed by Emra as a nuisance that it would no longer tolerate. In another microevolution, Emra restructures a single enzyme in its edible outerlayer of braffimass that reacts with the gut of the Pouchytail and Crystal Serpents; breaking down into a virulent prion that kills the organisms from the inside. Within just a few generations, 90% of the Scavenger Pouchytails are wiped out, and any Crystal Serpents that had resided on Emra or the AA-Nodes have been eradicated. The surviving population of Scavenger Pouchytails will be forced to seek out a new food source less malicious to its presence.

The social structure of Plains Grabraf changes as a result of the extreme pressure the aggressive nature of the Gabraf puts on its own population through infighting.

Single, large Grabrafs tend to dominate one group, and punish members of the group for showing dominance - that is, for engaging in aggressive behavior among the group.

To this end, they develop a kind of comb of feathers(hair?) that grows larger with a surplus of the hormone that is produced as a result of a successful hunt or fight. The largest comb most often denotes the leader of the group. Leader Grabrafs that feel threatened by males in the group sometimes decorate themselves with blood of their opponents in a won fight as a kind of enhancement of their authority.

Some pouchytails stay around Emra, as they develop an enzyme to decompose the prion resulting from Emra's microevolution. But because that prion has to be decomposed before it enters the Pouchytail's bloodstream, they develop a secondary jaw with a large sack, into which decomposing agents are pumped once they are filled with braffimass which is only swallowed through the actual jaw once the prions are dissolved.

Pouchytails, now unburdened by the plague of crystal mosquitoes, replenish their ranks with quite a bit of speed, enjoying the literal mountain of available food.

The Harpoon scorpibrafs found in region 4, specifically the Torray Isles >>1750766 , develop a pair of front joints that are thick and flat. The Scorpibrafs use these as shields, locking them together if necessary with their claws. Locking the shields however greatly lessens the animal's ability to see what's in front. The claws still serve the function of cutting and pinching.

The scutum Scorpibraf defends itself with its shield while stabbing its foe with its harpoon tail.

Its most common prey is the Bipedal Stitcher >>1767598 , after it having lost much of its running speed and its defences not being very effective against the Scorps armor.

The Scutum Scorpibraf develops a pattern on its shields. In part mimicking eyes, these distract / draw the attention of their foe or prey.

The toxins in the tail also goes through a mutation, instead turning into a Cytotoxic (cell destroying) substance. Organisms stung by the tail start experiencing Proteolysis (the breakdown of proteins), hemorrhaging, necrosis and death inevitably follows. The time this takes can vary depending on the organism, from minutes to days, but the result is nearly always the same.
A side effect of this venom is that it helps the Scorpibraf to then digest the prey.

The Nomad Grabraf gets more intelligent and starts to show new behaviors. No longer living in pairs, the Nomads now live in smaller groups made up of relatives, roaming around region 2. Within these groups adult Grabrafs take turn in watching over their young and unhatched offspring-pods. In return other members of the group pay them in the form of fruits and other sustainance.

It's not unusual to sometimes find Thinking Grabrafs >>1747515 in these small groups. Perhaps they tag along because they enjoy the company?

Similar to the Forest Grabrafs >>1766829 (perhaps because of interactions between these two sub-species) the Nomads start to paint themselves with mud, often mixing it with natural pigments they find, to create patterns and symbols.

In the mountains of Sujardin the Nomad Grabrafs eventually come across cave entrances to vast systems of underground caves and tunnels, unknown to them, created and left there millions of years ago by a now extinct relative of theirs. Lacking major predators, and filled with sustenance in the form of the cavernous Braffiruit, the Nomads make their home in this environment.

With time they adapt, their beaks growing smaller so as not to gets hurt by hitting the rock faces and their dark vision improves.

Because of the aggressive prions, Some of the surviving Scavenger Pouchytails move away from their lifestyle of following Emra. They continue to live closely with the Crystal Serpents, growing a pouch inside their cheeks/jaws to house the organisms during longer flights. Their airborne lifestyle has led to a color shift from yellows to a cooler green/blue.

Some of the Suricin living near the kelp forests off the coast of Shatturne adopt a green pigmentation, better blending in with their surroundings. They also develop a long ventral fin.

Some info on the various Derals: They are fish-like creatures with two heads. Each head has a mouth, brain, and eardrum. The two brains are linked to a third, larger brain located where the two spinal columns join together.
Their fins, scales, and mandibles are chitinous.

--World Event: The Spark of Sapience--
As the world of Essari reaches the near exact mark of 270 million years since complex life's evolutionary journey began, life has now fully bounced back throughout the world since its last mass extinction. Thousands of new organisms have sprung throughout Essari to help replenish the mostly devoid ecosystems in just under 30 millions years. While many of these organisms exist in the background, even the organisms that the Librarian's satellites have long focused on and studied and have endured and made new lives for themselves in the Emrialatic Era so far. What's more, after an extended study of Emra its predicted potential and ecological impact it may have, the satellites data has conclude Emra to no longer be a threat to state of life on Essari. With this, the last great Braffberg of Essari is allowed to freely roam and do as it pleases on Essari, though observation of it will continue.

There is another shift happening to life on Essari, and one that is not so visually apparent among organisms. The long-lived Grabraf clades of Sujardin and the Red-Throat Tripods found throughout Region 3 of Essari, and more recently the Stitchers of the Torray Isles are well known for their development of complex social structures among groups in their species. This development has in turn brought about a new evolution within pockets of their species that will impact the future for these select organisms on Essari: Wisdom. Through their the traditions these organisms have founded, regardless of how ingrained in their genetics it may be, the development of these complex social structures coupled with a beginnings of rational thought, will soon lay out the framework that would one day walk them down the path of civilization. Only time will tell what the future for these organisms may and whether they will grab hold of this golden opportunity, or be washed away in the echoes of time.

A mutation in one fluffbubble leads to the beginning to a more durable strain. The chambered fluffbubble has internal membranes that separate its interior into multiple float sacs. If one is ruptured, the plant can remain airborne.

Another strain. The fluff is is long on them. The added weight from the growth plus the moisture it retains weights the bubbles down, resulting in a layer of bubble clouds at lower elevations.

Some Stitcher are born with a shorter set of arms, which, over the generations, turns out to not be all bad. While it limits their potential to work at range, making high construction difficult for them, the well articulated arms are perfect to work right at the production gland of crystal string, and with that right in front of their eyes.

These mutants are assigned a specific task, dubbed 'the weaver', which boils down to doing detail work: They can seperate single strands of crystal from the string they create, building pure structures or deliberate mixtures, they can make crystaline structures small enough to be used as tools, and some seem even to produce things with no clear purpose other than aesthetic value.
