Chapter 1-Day 1
-------------------
As you awaken, there is nothing but pitch black darkness surrounding you. It’s dark, it’s damp, and cold- You try moving your arms, finding an exit- but you find that you are in a cramped, wooden…box. You panic, starting to hyperventilate, as breathing starts to become harder and harder- You hit the wooden panel in front of you with whatever strength your little arms can muster, and the sunlight hits your face, blinding. You take a deep breath, coughing as you take in large amounts of dust.

Opening your eyes, what you see is a large, gray street. Splatters of red and the occasional vegetation that manages to grow in the ruined remains of the buildings surrounding you are the only things that break the otherwise monochrome environment, along with your skirt. You notice they are slightly stained red, too. Looking at the wooden box behind you, you find…
A coffin. You were inside a coffin the whole time- But why? What’s the last thing you remember?
…What’s the only thing you remember?
>Playing with your little sister. You remember how she looked up to you, how she thought you were the coolest older sister in the world. How she depended on you when times were rough. Now if only you could remember her face…
>Going hunting with your father. Your mother said you were too young, but you had always had a fascination for it, and your father was very happy his daughter shared his hobbies. But… Something happened, during the hunt. If only you could remember…
>White, featureless walls. Bedridden, the faceless doctors speaking to your family. Sadness. If only you could remember what he said…
>School. Defending your best friend from a bully, and receiving a bruised arm and a purple eye for it. The smile on your friend’s face, and yours. If only you could remember their name…
>The streets. Stealing from a shop’s thrashcans to have something to eat. Why would they throw out such good food? You could never know. But then, somebody found you. If you could remember what happened after…

…Your sister, Emily, you think her name was. Everything is fuzzy, as if you tried to see it from behind a thin curtain. Her face, no matter how hard you try, you can’t remember. Emily… where is she now? Where are you? What were you doing inside a coffin, of all places?

The lead gray clouds cry on the empty street, raindrops falling on your face as you look up. In some of the buildings that remain mostly standing you can see the windows are boarded, the wood already rotten and ash gray. You step away from the coffin, closing the busted up lid. It’s covered in dust, though you threw most of it off when you opened it. You brush your hand against it, trying to reveal the name… but it doesn’t have anything written on it. This bothers you more than it should, why didn’t they write…
Your name?

(( Reaching the maximum number of Madness points will render your character permanently insane, and be a game over))
What… What was your name? You can’t remember. It’s as hazy as your sister’s face, as the rest of everything that you should be able to remember. You begin shaking, but manage to restrain yourself. No, now’s not the time for that. You need to find your sister. She has to be around here somewhere. You just need to look for her.

The coffin lid was not the right thing to check.

Look for the tombstone, memorial plaque, or maybe pictures and wreaths that might contain information about our self that may have been laying on the coffin before we punched the lid off.

The coffin… If the name isn’t there, it must be around somewhere. You walk around it, taking care to examine the sides. The wood other than the lid seems to be in remarkably good condition, being a darker wood color, too. So, it was made of different materials, for some reason. Strange…

The coffin is , as you confirm, strewn across in the middle of the street, slightly tilted as it’s laying on a pile of garbage. You check on the side to which the lid opened, in case something was resting on the lid- finding a burned photograph. You can recognize your face in it, and you’re holding someone’s hand- someone smaller than you. Emily? The face… it’s burned off.

Item added to your inventory. Memento:[Burned family photo?]

You clutch the burned photograph to your chest. It’s not much, but it’s something. You look on the other side of the photo, finding some writing. A single word you can’t quite make out- It seems the fire damaged it too badly, but it starts with an S.

>Enter the buildings. Try to get some shelter from the rain to protect the photo.
>Walk down the street. The buildings don’t seem safe- some of them have already collapsed, and a few are slightly tilted.

Although modern buildings can take real punishment before becoming unsafe, it looks like some apocalypse stuff happened, so it might be good to get a lay of the land and perhaps find something of significance (or at least, structural soundness) to investigate instead of going into these dodgy buildings.

Alright. Building it is!
>>
You enter the building that looks the safest- Standing relatively straight, and between two other buildings, it’d be had for this one to just fall over with you inside. Everything here seems very old, as if it had been left here for a long time… But then, how did you get in here? Where is here?

You’ll have to find the answers. If your sister ended up here, too… You need to find her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfYKof1NkBc&index=7&list=PL3C162B6EAB26F3E7
The inside of the building is filled with dust-covered coffins, much like the one you woke up in. A couple of them have the lids broken open, but upon examining them closer, you find they have been broken for a long time, as they, too, are covered by a thick layer of dust, which would have been thrown off by opening it, like you did. So, someone was inside these coffins a long time ago- More people had been brought here? The implications are disturbing. What is this place? None of the coffins have names, though some have markings upon them, which yours lacked. Lines, each group of 4 marked with a diagonal one- a way to mark the pass of days, perhaps? Whoever was here must have stayed here for a while- you count 10 markings in total in the first coffin you examine, though others have less.

The windows of the lower floor are completely broken, as was the door you got in through. The walls seem to have a fine layer of red, dried a long time ago. You hope it’s paint…

[Sanity: 85%. Madness Points: ( ) ( ) ( )]
You unconsciously clutch the photo closer to you. Holding it in seems to calm you down, somewhat.

This is a lot of people for one of my quests.

Writing for examining the inside of the coffins.
>>
The closed coffins… The doors are way more resistant, so you’ll have to find a way to pry them open. If there had been people in them, they’d have suffocated… but if every coffin with a busted door was opened from the inside, and had the same type of door, it’d make sense for The coffins to have different purposes depending on the materials used. If someone put you, and other people before you, in the coffins even a child could break out of, what are the harder ones for?

You check the markings on the open coffins, and notice something- Only the coffins someone broke out of have the markings on them. The markings are also carved into the hard wood, not the door- which means that somebody must have used a tool to do that, probably some sort of knife. If they stayed here for a while, they might have left the knife here- if they left. The alternative is something you prefer to not think about…
With some patience, you manage to find a small, rusted kitchen knife hidden away behind one of the coffins. It’s not much, definitely not enough to pry them open like a crowbar… But you can probably use it to fiddle with the joints. It’ll probably break, though. Oddly enough, The knife is nowhere near as dusty as the coffins themselves.
>Open one of the coffins.
>Save the knife, it might come in handy later.
>>

You decide to keep the knife. It’ll help keep you safe, and risking it on opening a coffin that might be empty is something you can’t do in this situation. You have to think this through logically, if you want to find out the answers- it’s become clear to you this place is dangerous. You aren’t sure what the danger is yet, but there have been people here before you, and they left the knife behind… Not only that, but the knife has been in that spot much less time than the coffins it was used to mark, which means it must have been used somewhat recently. On what, you aren’t sure- the knife is rusty, but it has no stains on it- dull, though, probably since it was used to carve on a hard wooden coffin before.

You decide to…
>Climb upstairs. You might find something else to open the coffins with, or perhaps something else to help you…
>Climb downstairs. Who knows what’ll be in the dark- but you aren’t unarmed anymore, at least.
>Leave the building. Explore the streets.

Alright, since no more posts are coming in, Writing!
>>
You start climbing the stairs, taking care not to touch the railing- it looks rather damaged, and leaning on it is probably a bad idea. You carefully hold the burned photo on one hand, with the knife in the other, being careful while climbing the steps, as some seem rather unstable. One of them goes slightly down when you press on it, and you step back, just in time to avoid a wire snapping at the place your head was a second ago- A trap? Here? A tensed wire… If it had been left here for a long time, like the coffins, it wouldn’t have worked anymore-you’ve seen it happen with rubber bands before. You can stretch them all you want, but if you leave them stretched, they’ll just… stay stretched, losing the elasticity. That means… Somebody set up the trap recently- Someone must have been here, the one who used the knife last!

You pause a moment, trying to hear if something is moving- but everything has become silent again, after the sharp crack of the wire on the wall, which is now slightly cracked. That… that would’ve killed you.
[Sanity: 70%. Madness Points ( ) ( ) ( )]

You continue upwards, taking special care as you climb the stairs to check for traps using the knife- The stairway to the 2nd floor is collapsed, but you arrive at the first without any more trouble. There are two doors, one to the left and one to the right- A and B.

Putting an ear to each door before making any decisions, you hear nothing in either of them- The entire street is oddly quiet, other than the sound of rain. No wind, no animals- Seems like the only other living thing here is the vegetation… And whoever is setting up the traps. You hope that it’s not the person who brought you here, but… who else could it be? You didn’t see any other coffins around the area that weren’t old, but you can’t discard that possibility, either.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF_PTZOWmGU&list=PL3C162B6EAB26F3E7&index=4

You decide to go through door B, opening the door carefully, leaning against it, as it opens towards the inside of the room. You peek into it, seeing a rather thrashed up apartment, the sofas chewed through, the lightbulbs broken, but, oddly enough, the rest of the room is untouched. There is even a plate and cutlery on the table, as if someone was going to eat there- But it’s covered in as much dust as the rest of the building. You grab the less-rusty kitchen knife from the table. The room looks to have been left unperturbed after…whatever happened in here. There is no blood anywhere, strangely.
Item obtained: Kitchen Knife(2).

You…

With the room being mostly undisturbed, you figure the cupboard and other containers should be also left unopened- Maybe you’ll be able to find something in there you can use. You take one of the chairs, moving it next to the kitchen counter- climbing on top of it in order to reach the higher cupboard. Moving your hand around the inside, you touch something metallic and small- taking it out, you see that it’s a key

Item Obtained:Apartment B Metal Key

You check the fridge- only to quickly close it, the stench of rotten food filling the air. Without power, everything that was inside the fridge has experienced rot to the point where there’s a fungal epidemic growing inside of it. You cough, trying to clear your nose and mouth of the scent. How disgusting.

Having checked everywhere in the room you think you could find things, you leave for the A apartment. Putting your ear against the door, you, again, hear nothing but the muffled sound of the rain- It’s getting heavier. The rain doesn’t seem willing to let up anytime soon. You once again lean against the door as you open it, the lock having been forced open before your arrival. Probably by the person who set up the trap before- the other apartment was just open, but this one had been forced. The inside seems to be in even worse shape than the other apartment, one of the walls separating the rooms having collapsed, as well as part of the ceiling, revealing the apartment right above it, which seems to be… leaking water? How is the plumbing still working? You think you could climb into the apartment right above, and into the second floor, if you could pile up the chairs from both apartments. The rubble would be enough of a base for you to manage…

You take a look around the apartment- the slow drip of water inside the building, the leak from the second floor’s noise being lost in the sound of the rain. The apartment is in a very sorry state, a red-stained bedsheet being strewn over the sofa. The wood splinters beneath the collapsed ceiling suggest it collapsed on top of the kitchen table, due to it’s location- though the rest of the wood of the table itself seems missing. The floor of the apartment is not covered in much dust, suggesting this apartment has been visited recently , probably by whoever laid the trap- your kidnapper, most likely. Whoever they are, and whatever their reason for this, they didn’t seem to want people getting into the building- but the trap would’ve been much harder to avoid if he had laid it lower. So why…?

No time to question that now, though. You open the cupboards and shelves, finding them all ransacked, and devoid of dust, too. It can’t have been more than a couple hours since somebody was here last- and the leaking 2nd floor apartment would suggest that, if the plumbing doesn’t work, something containing still water was in that apartment- Not very healthy to drink, but oddly, you don’t feel thirsty, despite it having been probably around an hour since you woke up inside of the coffin, and who knows how much time you spent inside of it. You poke around with the rusty knife before opening the drawers, just in case- and one of them springs a knife, shooting out towards where you´d have been if you’d opened it normally. Good thinking- you could’ve gotten really hurt there. That was the last thing you’d left unchecked in the apartment.

From the apartment on top, a noise comes- some sort of wet gurgle that makes you shiver. You can hear the scrapping of something against the floor, as it claws at the ground like a wounded animal. You freeze, breathing heavily, and clutch the photo- need to remain calm, need to remain calm… You could just be imagining things.

You grab the less rusty kitchen knife, grasping it hard enough that you´re afraid it’ll break, for a moment. Just in case.

Last time I ran a quest, anons missed the rather big "This is an obvious trap" option, and just walked straight into death. I should probably change the important things to red, and leave mechanics in bold.
The long times between posts, were because I know someone was anticipating me running again but he was offline and he missed it all. Since he's the one who got me to run again, I kind of extended the time to see if he'd get on. Sorry
Good feedback.
