Welcome, welcome to VHQ 4!

I haven't done much since last time, what with the year-round school I'm attending. We still need choices for Simeon and Henrietta's level ups. Alternately, I could just choose that for you if you would like.

Last we left off, Middle manager-turned-Vault Hunter Baal, has joined his vault hunting companions on top of the massive super fortress/killer robot known as TR1-UM-VR8. The current plan: Blow this fucker sky fucking HIGH! To do that, you need to know where it can be hurt the worst, prevent some pesky distractions (Hyperion reinforcements) and find some timed explosives that you can use for the dirty deed.

The four of you have decided the best course of action is to divide and conquer. Simeon and Flora will cease control of the Comm Tower that links Triumvirate to the giant H in the sky. While you are in charge of stealing a copy of the schematics of the robot you are currently on. Your partner in this venture is Henrietta, your resident gunbunny and artillery aficionado. She is still in blissful contentedness at holding onto a genuine RokSalt. Your RokSalt, that is. The one you beat a small assaut squad of Loaders, Engineers, and a Loader. You don't mind, though. You're more of a Dahl weapons guy anyway.

>Make small talk with Henrietta. She's easily the one of your companions you know the least about. (Ask her a question about herself)

This place is almost as much of a ghost town as the actual ghost town below. Just with slightly less blood everywhere. But it is equally boring. You decide to pass the time by getting to know your partner.

"So what brought you to Pandora? Corporation advert? The Vaults? Some kind of sightseeing tour gone awry?" You pose the question.

"I came here for the action, actually. Nothing better to test tech on than live, somewhat complicit, karmic-ly deserving bandits." She lifts up her left arm for you to notice the bracer-like device that is clung to it. "This baby is my own invention! I don't want to bore you with all the technical details, cause there's a lot of'em, but basically it uses quantum time travel to let me fire weapons so rapidly, it looks like I unload the entire magazine at once! And before you ask, I have tried actual time travel experiments with the tech and it is really unstable at that level. And the last thing the universe needs is 78 Henrietta all trying to blow the same thing up."

You are a little worried about where she got the exact number 78 from, but you don't really know if you are ready for that kind of knowledge.

>You're probably the youngest of all of us, but how old are you?
>What planet did you come from?

"Why 78?" You ask

"Well, I DID do a test, and 78 alternate me's popped into this reality briefly. We reset before we did any lasting damage to space-time. I think. Let me know if you come across yourself at some point."

You don't know if she is being serious about that part. Maybe asking a few other questions might distract you from the implications of that answer.

"So how old are you? You look a lot younger than the rest of us." You ask.

"Its rude to ask a lady her age, but if you MUST know, I am 47!" You look at her like she grew a second head. "I'm just kidding! I'm 19. I had a birthday just a couple weeks before arriving here."

"And where are you from?"

"I'm from Haephestus, same as the famous Mr. Torgue!" She seems to gain even more energy as she mention the name. "He's part of the reason I got into weapons and mods like I am. Have you read his biography? Its such a great read! Its called, "I TALK IN CAPS LOCK! A Mr. Torgue biography."

"I'll be sure to." You make a note about the book. Whenever you have free time and a way to acquire it, it might be worth reading about the founder and spokesman for one of the largest munitions makers in the universe.

"Since you got your 20 questions, I think its fair I get to ask some."

You seem oddly fine after everything, why?

"Maybe I've been on Pandora too long. After a while you just get kind of... adjusted to it. Though mega-corporate life, especially Dahl, is demanding enough it might as well be military."

You're Dahl middle management, right?

"I guess 'were' would be the more appropriate, but yeah back when there was a Mine to manage."

How'd you reach foreman?

"Five years of slightly above average work ethic and a little sabotage of my competitors. I think I got a pin for those years of service. Don't know where it went though. Probably destroyed with my mine."

Got any family?

"Yeah. My mother is in a retirement home on Eden-5. I have a little sister. She's in the Dahl military stationed on a ship somewhere. No idea where she is now, though.

How come you're STILL in a suit? It's been years since the mines shut down.

"There aren't very many clothing stores or tailors on Pandora. I probably could have done away with the tie, but... I don't know. I feel naked with out it."

"How old are you?"

"28"

There is a momentary pause in Henrietta's questions as the two of you round the corner. You are face to face with the building that, by the maps on your ECHO devices, is the security building. The massive neon sign that says "HYPERION SECURITY STATION" might also have been a subtle hint to its identity. You are about to open your mouth to offer strategies for taking the station, but Henrietta has started resuming her line of questioning in rapid fire. Probably to get them out of the way before the exciting work begins.

"What ship was she on? Was it part of the Dahl fleet that was orbiting Elpis a while ago? Have you ever been to the moon?"

You think for a moment on the questions before responding in order.

"I think her ship was called the Euphrates... or the Euripides. I forget which; its been a while since we saw her off. There was a Dahl fleet around Elpis? I've been cut off from Dahl since they stranded us here. No, I haven't been to the moon, but I hear they have weird accents and lasers."

She grumbles at some of your non-answers, but you've told the truth about yourself as asked. Of course, its not everything that makes you up, but some things are left personal. Now you can focus on the Security Station.

"We should scout around the outside." You advise your partner. "We might be able to find a more advantageous entry point than the front door. What do you think?"

She nods and offers a sheepish grin. "I was actually going to suggest we just beat down the door and smash through whatever Hyperion goons are standing there gawking at us." That... sounds like a much more risky plan than what you had thought of. "You're the boss though, boss. All you need to do is tell me what to shoot!" She gives you a fake salute with her crooked smile and eager eyes.

Thinking about that, you hypothesize that if you can find another entrance you could enact both plans and outflank the guards inside.

"I think its a good Plan B." You give a slightly forced smile as you hope to not completely crush Henrietta's enthusiasm for the mission. You know she likes the shock and awe, but bursting through the front doors of a security checkpoint is a good way to end up looking like a cheese grater. "But it would be more prudent to attack from an angle they won't expect. Same effect, but less chance of us getting hit."

"Okay." She sounds a little mopey at her favorite tactic be relegated to the back up, but she seems to understand why. "I'll follow your order boss!"

"Let's check around the side here." You stoop low to create less of a noticeable presence just in case. Behind you, Henrietta does the same, though still clutching her shotgun. Around the side of the checkpoint, you notice two loaders and an Engineer guarding a secondary entrance as well as an open window. However it is one of those that open out rather than up and the gap is just a bit too large for you. Henrietta could maybe fit in there, but there's no telling what is on the other side.

"I have a plan." You turn to Henrietta, who has crouched down next to you to survey the unsuspecting guards ahead of the two of you. "We sneak up and take them down before they can call out for help. If they don't have some kind of key for the door, I can help you crawl through the window and unlock the door from the inside."

"That sounds like a plan to me, boss!" She smiles and nods. Mostly because she's happy to start the action, you're sure. The two of you slowly stalk closer to the engineer and the first of the two Loaders. You give your briefcase a slight swing, to test its weight. You're pretty sure its heavy enough to knock a man out, if not outright kill them. Looking over at Henrietta, she has pulled some kind of small, bandit-styled machete from a sheath on her back. You hadn't really noticed it before, but it looks like its made out of bits of a wind turbine, license plates, and an actual machete.

On three, you mouth to her. She nods in agreement. You start counting down on your fingers.

1...

The two of you leap up behind your quarries. You leap onto the Loader and smash your briefcase into the red sensor on it's torso. Lucky for you, it seemed to not be in the best condition already, so it goes down, toppling backwards because of your added weight. You're momentarily pinned under the metal and unable to move.

Henrietta hacks her blade into the neck of the engineer, causing blood to spurt over her face and the wall beside them. He gurgles in surprise before collapsing into a pile of twitching limbs. The other Loader turns to face the two of you from the noise you created, but quick-thinking Henrietta throws her machete, lodging it deep into the chassis of the Hyperion robot. It attempts to make a noise, but its power quickly fades and it simply ceases its movements.

You dislodge yourself from under your destroyed loader as Henrietta recovers her weapon.

She did a good job, but the job isn't over yet. There will be plenty of time to offer her positive feedback later. You rummage around in the Engineer's pockets for a key card or something of the like. You found a couple of bucks, but no keys; card or otherwise.

(+$50)

Henrietta stood for a moment with an expecting face, but quickly started rummaging around one of the Loaders.

"I got nothin' here. Are you sure the door is even locked?" She asked. You look up and stare for a second. You hadn't considered the option that the door might not even be able to lock. You get up and walk to the door. Taking the knob in your hand, you turn it and push the door in. It opens with an easy glide. You are a little embarrassed as you hear Henrietta makes the tell-tale sound of a stifled snicker.

"Don't worry, boss. I won't tell anyone!" There is a little laugh in her voice. You regain your composure and continue on in, still in stealth mode.

The corridor the outer door leads into goes to a much higher tech, metal, sliding door off to the right and a similar door just ahead.

You decide on the door right in front of you. You take a step forward and the door automatically opens for you. Inside you see a small, white kitchenette with a single table and four chairs. A countertop and refrigerator are set up opposite the door. A microwave on the counter is currently counting down a timer with one minute left. There is a single, large and heavily armored man sitting in a chair enjoying a soda. He looks at you with dull, near-lifeless eyes you have only ever seen in the staff that works in accounting. You shudder to think of them. After a moment of looking at you, he returns to his soda; only occasionally glancing at the microwave.

"Are you going to do something?" Henrietta asks cautiously.

"I'm on break. Not my problem." The Hyperion goon grunts dismissively.

Turn off the clocks. In deadpan "Oh no, something prevented you from knowing when you are off break. According to Hyperion code, you are to go hide and make sure you are a non-combatant and away while off the clock."
>>
You decide to linger around the break room a bit longer, examining the fridge for anything edible. As far as you can see, its all biohazardous waste that should have been thrown out months ago. The microwave dings, and the large man retrieves his food. Henrietta stands nervously by the door. You casually look away from the refrigerator and find the nearest clock. With a little reaching you are able to pull it down from the wall, and smash it against the ground with a crash.

"Oh no," you say with a catty lack of enthusiasm, "the clock is busted looks like you won't be able to know when your break ends. How terrible." You place a hand on your cheek in faux concern. The large man grunts out a chuckle and starts eating his food. You make you way back to the door, but stop briefly ask a few questions to the man.

Between bites of steaming Skagloaf doused in ketchup, he explains how the system is run by mostly robots. Only about 5 actual people are on staff. 3 excluding him and the engineer you killed, you think to yourself. The boss man of the operation of the checkpoint is a man named Captain Castus. According to the large man, he's kind of a hardass, but mostly relies on the machines to do the heavy lifting. Or heavy Loading, as he attempts to make a joke. You are only mildly amused by it. You thank him for the information and head out on your way.

Henrietta is already out the door and down by the other exit, which presumably leads into the checkpoint proper.

You rejoin Henrietta near the other door, placing a hand on her shoulder to inform her of your presence. She turns and nods to you. In a hushed voice, you ask her to report on the situation down the hall.

"Not too much is happening. Looks like the main checkpoint area. There's a counter and a very unobservant Loader sitting behind it. A few lockers and container I guess for contraband and the like." She tells you.

You surmise there must be an alarm on the Loader's side of the counter that would alert the whole security force or what's left of it. Chances are you could go in there and shoot down the Loader before it has a chance to press the button. With an explosive weapon like what Henrietta has, it would be fairly easy. On top of that, Loaders are notorious for ignoring gunshots when not in the immediate vicinity.

Another option would be to just stroll in and see if there's something strange going on with that Loader. The door in is apparently in clear sight of the counter. It not being able to see Henrietta doesn't quite make sense. They might be dumb, but Loaders aren't blind.
