Welcome to Do Your Best Quest. A slice of life adventure with supernatural elements where our poor main character is trying to do his best out of the situations at hand, but don’t worry, just trying your best is good enough for him.

You still don’t know what exactly happened, but Constance seems to be a lot stronger than the mummy she pretends to be. She just collapsed on the floor after doing who knows what to her two kidnappers, who are unconscious. Mr. Calamity is ‘resting’ too after you threw a lamp on his head, you aren’t in your best shape either after receiving a supernatural punch to the gut and all of those boxes fell on you. You carry Constance to her bed… You have to clean this ‘mess’, I guess your work as a janitor just doesn’t stop, does it?

What do you do?

You untie Calamity and used the rope to tie those punks! Now they can’t escape and hopefully won’t be a threat anymore. You also put a pillow under Calamity’s head so he can rest properly until he wakes up. This place is still not safe; those 2 seem to be working with other people, so it’s best if you take your favorite little piece of Egyptian history away from here, also you take the phone you bought for her too.

Outside of the clinic seems to be pretty quiet, it seems there is no one near.

What do you do?

Where else could you go but your apartment? Kind of obvious if you think about it for more than a second. In your way there you text your sister, you both agreed to meet in the clinic but now the place is compromised.

“Don’t worry! I’ll go to your apartment when I can!” She doesn’t seem to grasp the situation you’re in, and how could she? You can’t explain it while typing and carrying a little mummy.

At your apartment you leave poor Constance on your bed, her flame is getting smaller. Oh man, you’re not really sure what to do first…

>Call Amelia to explain the situation.
>Call the Cops to tell them to go to the Clinic.

You first call the cops and tell them to go to the clinic; they will send someone as soon as they can. It appears they are incredibly busy; maybe it has to do with the explosion you heard before? Anyway you hope this is enough for getting those bastards arrested and hopefully Mr. Calamity safe.

Constance is not looking good; her flame is even smaller than before. You call the nearby hospital for an ambulance. They explain to you that sadly there is a shortage of vehicles right now, a terrorist attack happen in the middle of the city and it appears it was a big one. She apologizes and says it’s going to take at least an hour for an ambulance to arrive to your house.

She’s breathing slowly, you’re not sure at all what to do…

>Wait, there isn’t anything else you can do but pray. Maybe she’s just very tired from using her entity.
>Take her to the hospital yourself! I don’t know how exactly, but carrying her would be more effective than waiting.

You decided to talk to Philonune and ask him what is up with Constance. If he doesn’t know, well you’ll have to pray for her.

“Is she going to be fine?”

“Yes, she’s going to.”

“Really? How do you know?”

“The state of her flame shows more her emotion than her physical condition, the calmer it looks and steady it looks the more relaxed is its user.” You remember when Uccelli got really nervous about hers; her flame was way bigger at that moment than ever.

“But her flame is getting smaller.”

“She had it hidden, right? Hers most be smaller than average.”

“They have different sizes? Why?”

“I do not know, my guess is as good as yours. We should research for a cure at once!”

“I don’t think that’s possible.”

You patiently wait for the ambulance. It was one of the most stressful experience you ever had. It finally arrived. The paramedics ask what happened and you told them the non-entity version of the events. You have no idea what Constance have or anything. They check on her first and it seems there is no grave danger, but since her condition is unknown so they moved her inside the ambulance as delicately as they can even though they look like they are in a hurry.

You ask one of the paramedics if you can go with her, but he refuses to let you in for some odd reason. He tells you he’s going to call the clinic later to tell her about her condition, the Hospital of the city is in the center of city, near the Il Grande Café Shop. The moment they deny you to visit her, you put her new cellphone on her pocket, you have the number, so you can call her eventually.

The paramedics leave with your poor mummy, they asked your phone number just in case, but they tell you again they are going to call the Clinic if anything happens. You feel uneasy…

(Sorry for the delays)

The hospital is the center of the city; the attack was in Northern part, so you should be fine going. Before leaving you text your sister where you are going.

“I’m outside, I just saw the ambulance leaving. Why you didn’t go with her?”

“They didn’t let me.”

“Aw shucks. I’m outside, open up!”

You open the door; it’s your sister Amelia! Who else could it be?

“Let’s go!”

“We should be careful; other flame-users could be out in the open.”

“Aye-aye! You’re the one who can spot them, you’ll have to tell me!” She smiles, something about her looks… off. You wonder why. “Some parts of the subway are unavailable right now, but we should be fine.” She checks her phone.

Something about her seems… off. You need to make sure she is the real Amelia, but first, let’s assess the situation about the terror attack.

“Wait…” She smiles excited for some reason when you said that. “Do you know what happened? About the bombings I mean.”

She deflates her smile. “It seems like 2 building collapses by unknown methods, the terrorists stole something the police can’t disclose for some reason. You know how secretive the police is. It made me wander… maybe they used entities to strike the buildings.”

That reminds you the two thugs who tried to steal Constance knew about the terrorist attack, maybe they were part of it? Nah… they looked like shitty criminals. “Maybe, but wasn’t there an explosion? I don’t think entities can create explosion” You hope…

“Yeah, that was what the witnesses said. But they didn’t find the source of the explosion.”

“Hey Amelia” She looks at you excited again. “You like the second one of the Wallop Wombat trilogy the most, right?” She deflates again.

“No, I like 3 the most, remember the vehicles stages! Those are the best!”

“Oh, right. You still have shit taste.” She shows you her tongue. “Wait. Did you cut your hair?” The moment you say that she blissfully smile.

“Hehe, you like it? I technically didn’t cut it; Ms. Uccelli taught me how to stylize it better! She also helped me with my make up!”

“You look real cute.”

“Hehehehe.” She’s all smiles.

“You didn’t get a boyfriend while I was away did you?”

“Of course not! Don’t tease me!” She punches you on the back for some reason.

“Ouch… my back…” Your wounds haven’t healed yet.

“Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! I forgot about your fight!”

“It’s okay; just don’t do that again… Let’s go.”

“I’m so sorry!”

You’re in the train, you both managed to get a seat.

“I’m still sorry.” She still looks embarrased

“Good thing we’re going to the hospital.”

“Don’t say that! But Johnny, why did you have to fight alone again? Why you didn’t wait for me?”

>”I didn’t want you to get hurt.”
>”I wasn’t planning on fighting, but I needed to act fast; I didn’t know what could have happened to Constance.”
>”Because I could take those two down by myself, I’m that cool.”

While riding...

>"Hey, Amelia. Lately, have you felt like you're becoming more... expressive... in high stress situations? During that fight, when that thug had the upper hand, I kind of felt like I was in a shonen manga when the situation reversed itself."
>>
I gotta go but if this session is gonna continue a lot further tonight, can someone do something? When we're home or free to do whatever, attempt to put Philonune's flame over both our eyes, then stare right into the nearest light source. See if this "the one the light cannot blind" thing is for real.

“I wasn’t planning on fighting, but I needed to act fast; I didn’t know what could have happened to Constance. It could have gone a lot worse. I’m starting to appreciate having Philo with me to save my ass now.”

“Yes, when someone is in danger you need to act, right? Hehe, that’s cool. But you have done a lot of questionable actions lately, as in ‘the method’ more than anything; please think everything through before doing something dangerous. You could have texted me too before doing something rash like for example. The only thing I care about is you being safe.” That was unusual from her… But it was unusual from you to do such things too. Maybe you two are showing parts of yourself you never had the chance to display before.

“Duly noted.” You’ve been reprimanded by your little sister; take in consideration those who are with you. While riding the train you wanted to say something. “Hey Amelia. Lately have you felt like you’re becoming more… expressive… in high stress situations? During that fight, when that thug had the upper hand, I kind of felt like I was in a shonen manga when the situation reversed itself.”

“Like you feel different? I do feel different, maybe the entities are influencing us too, I mean, Saravasti didn’t look like a bear when we met! Now it’s easier for me to… Talk.”

“Mmh, that’s not exactly what I me—“

“It’s our station! Let’s go!” She grabs you by the arm.

You two arrive to the hospital, the situation here is hectic, but you managed to get Constance’s room number. When you get in there she’s sleeping, weirdly enough on her desk is the cellphone you bought and the book she was reading… Anyway, you talked to one of the doctors and he told you she wasn’t in danger anymore, but the high level of stress almost caused her to get worse… I mean that’s how you interpret it because you’re familiar with medical jargon. He also told you she’s not going to wake up today.

What do you do now?

You leave a note explaining Constance what happened with your phone number on it.

“I was so excited to meet her… I wish I could have talk to her.” Amelia says.

“Sorry, this is all we can do for now.”

You both left the hospital, the place was too noisty for you to call Calamity, the attack must have been something really huge. Anyway, two streets away from the medical facility you decided to call him, he doesn’t answer his cellphone; you decided to call directly to the clinic.

“Mr. Calamity?”

“Ando! Boy! You’re alright!”

“Are you okay? Sorry for leaving you dry, I needed to take Constance to a safer place.”

“All is good, young man. Those two kidnappers have been arrested and I had a minor injury on the head, don’t know why.”

“…Yeah… Maybe they punched you…” He doesn’t seem to remember you were the one who caused it.

“Most likely. I did receive the news, little Constance is on the Central Hospital, right?”

“Yes, I just visited her, she was asleep.”

“Poor little creature, I hope those despicable cretins get their due… Oh, since you got a little attached to her, I called her family and they are going to move her away to another clinical facility. I wanted to help her more, but life decided it wasn’t meant to be. I’m sorry.” Why is he apologizing?

“Don’t be sorry” I mean he had no security and he was willing to have patients in there... But who cares now? “I was just calling to know how you were, mister.”

“I’ll see you soon when you decide to come back to work! HahahAhHah… haha… ha…” Slowly his creepy laugh started to sound sadder and sadder, you hear him sobbing. He hangs up.

“I never meet your boss, is he cool? Mine is a little bossy, but you get used to it.”

“He’s… okay.”

After a short trip you leave Amelia outside her house, she waves at you before going inside. You’re 3 streets away from home. The clinic was closed and some police cars are circling around. It’s getting chilly here, let’s go back home. Home sweet home, Now let’s find some information about the incident. It seems the information hasn’t evolved from what Amelia told you before, you keep searching…

“What are you doing, Ando?” Philonune asks.

“I’m investigating. There is something iffy about the attack.”

“Gaining intel, I see. Maybe you could find information about the Creator’s cronies.”

“I’m not sure if I would be able to find any.”

“It wouldn’t hurt to try.”

“I’ll see what I can do.”

You enter “The Creator” in the search bar. No results that have anything to do with him.

“No hits?”

“No at all.”

“You should try using another phrase.”

“Mmmh. I don’t think I’ll get any type of success. I’ll go back to what I was doing.”

You see the comment section, yeah, grave mistake most of the time but there is something that caught your eye. A comment says: “If you understood what happened, please follow this link.”

You search on the internet information about the app; you can’t find anything but people complaining about it not working. Strange.

“Hey Philo, I have a question.”

“What is it?”

“If I put you on my eyes and stare at any type of light source, I wouldn’t be blind by it, right?”

“If you evoke me we’ll share the same properties and that means you’ll be able to see even if you look directly to the sun. I can’t be blinded after all.”

“Oh neat, for a second I thought it was some metaphorical speech.”

“It’s now more fitting than it ever was. We’ll take that fake prophet down together.”

“Another question, why I can talk to you right now and… you know… not having to put you on my eyes and go to the bridge like I always did?”

“That I do not know, I think it has to do with something inside you than I.”

“Mmmh… I need to study, could you be quiet from now on?”

“I’ll return to my normal flaming state, it requires less energy anyway. Remember to call when necessary.”

It’s best for you to attend school. In your way you read the news, it seems there are new updates about yesterday news. The terrorists send a message about the attack: ‘We were falsely blamed by your government about the attack, this shows how this dictatorship is controlling everyone’s mind, please wake up.’, The government of Don Gordon the third replied by ‘You can’t be part of the group of people you killed, you’re not innocent people, you’re murderers, we will track you down and bring justice.’

This situation is a mess; you wonder why the government let everyone know about that message by responding. It’s not your problem though.

School is looking grimmer than usual; it seems some of students where part of the victims of the terrorist attack. You knew most of them, they were your classmates, may they rest in peace. The principal gave a heartfelt speech to everyone, most of the students even cried, not you, you don’t really care.

During one of the breaks a classmate of yours got near you.

“I knew you were close to them, I’m sorry about what happened.” He's trying to be nice, but why?

“Sucks but I never knew them, honestly.” You do remember them begging for your money at the arcade a handful of times. “I feel bad for their families, though…”

“Wait, you weren’t close with them? Shucks… This is awkward.”

“It’s not like I’m completely indifferent.”

“We all thought you were friends with them, have you always been just by yourself all these years? Oh man, this sucks in a completely different manner now...”

“It wasn’t bad.”

“But it wasn’t good either. If you ever feel lonely I would be happy to talk.”

“O… kay?” This situation makes you uncomfortable for some reason. “I have friends.”

“…”

“Really, I do.”

“I never said you don’t.”

“Okay… Sorry if I sounded like an ass, I’m just making sure you got that message.”

“Anyway, if you ever feel lonely go to the art club, we would love to have another member.”

“I’ll think about it…” Was it really all a convoluted way to gain a new member? You’ll never know unless you join.

After your awkward encounter with your classmate, classes went by really fast, but breaks were almost unbearable, most of your classmates wanted to talk to you about the tragedy and how everyone feels bad for you and wanted to comfort you in any way they can... It seems everyone thought you were friends with your deceased classmates… It was probably the most awkward day of your life.

Today you didn’t have any classes with Uccelli. School is over, now you have free time.

You have a meeting to attend to. Let’s go to the gate, but before that you text Uccelli so she knows where you are, and on the off chance you need backup:

‘You need to tell me with time about this kind of stuff, anyway I’ll be there following you from afar. Do not worry; I know how to not attract attention.’

‘Thanks.’ You answer back.

At the gate you find a small group of girls surrounding Osgood. These girls are of dubious reputation if you know what I mean. They seem to be hitting on him and he looks extremely uncomfortable with the situation.

“Hey honey, wait long?” You wink. The girls turn around and shut up.

“W-what?” Osgood says. The girls turn back.

“Oh… So you are…” One of them says.

“I…”

“Eugh… Why you try to deceive us! You asshole!” They ditch him like your adoptive father did with you. One of them shows him the bird. He for some reason stays frozen in place.

“…”

“Uh… I thought you could have played along, but it doesn’t matter, let’s go.”

“I…” He’s in shock.

“C’mon, we have stuff to do. Besides they are just skanks.”

“…You’re right.” For some reason his ego is shot. “Anyway, where do you want to discuss?”

“You said you know a nice place.”

“Oh it’s a nice restaurant, somewhat classy while still being cheap, it’s around here, follow me.”

You are walking towards this new fancy place.

“For a guy who didn’t want to get his mack on with high school girls, you look strangely disappointed.”

“I… Uhm… I have nothing to say about that.”

“So you wanted to…?”

“Not with those.” He says with disgust. Then he laughs. “No one likes being rejected even if you don’t like the person, okay?”

“If you say so.”

You arrived to the Starlight Queen, a dining restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere; it looks like a place where college students congregate. Osgood will pay for the drinks; you asked for juice, he went for coffee.

“So you want to make an alliance, right? I’m all for it to be honest.” He drinks his coffee.

“Really? That’s it?”

“I mean, being by myself is a bad idea, and finding someone with these powers is almost impossible. So I’m happy if we become friends.”

“Why you made a pact then? This whole situation is dangerous.”

“Think it about it for a second, okay? It’s all about self-defense. The moment one of these demons ask you if you want to join a multidimensional fight for the control of the existence creates one scenario; one scenario where you aren’t able to defend yourself by normal means, right? Who brings a knife to a sword fight? The analogy is not even close to that in this context, but you get me, right? I mean, you clearly do; you made a pact.”

“I get that, but in any moment it passed through your mind that having a flame is more dangerous? I have no idea if I’m the only one who can see flames. You took an unnecessary risk.”

“Too late for a change of heart. Haha.”

“Have you met someone with a flame?”

“Aside from you? Yes, one. A psycho dressing up as a superhero, if you have watched TV lately you may have heard about him. Everyone is getting crazy about him. Can’t see the appeal of a brute in a power trip.” You remember Amelia mentioning it days ago.

“How do you know?”

“I’ve no idea what his name is, you could search it online, but the reason I know is because I saw him beating a thief with his demon in the middle of the street while walking to work, it was all before it blew up in the media.”

“So you don’t know him personally?”

“Thank god I don’t. So what do you say? Let’s become friends.”

“I need to think this through before making my decision; I’ll have an answer tomorrow.”

“Uhm… Did I say something wrong?”

“No, you didn’t.”

“You waited for me too before, so I supposed it’s my turn.”

“Glad you understand.”

“I don’t. But what else can I do? One thing, just call me when you’re ready to answer.”

“Why?”

“Because if you say ‘no’ I don’t have to endanger myself and if you say ‘yes’ we will talk, and plan a meeting. Well, Johnny, it was a pleasure.” He extends his hand; you give him a firm handshake. “You know how to get back right?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about me.”

“Good bye, then.” He leaves the money on the table; before you could call the waitress, a person sits in front of you. It’s a badly disguised Uccelli with a newspaper in hand.

“I dunno… My room.” You raise your eyebrow.

“Then…” You whisper in her ear. “Would you like my help in removing them…”

You have nothing to worry about. Even though you’re going through all of this you still found time to help me and my sister.”

“You talk like the interdimensional battle is a minor thing.” She smiles and almost laughs.

“You made it seem like it…” You shrug. “Anyway if you want a real advice, you are hard to approach. You should try to put a more friendly and approachable aura. You’re almost 30, I’m sure you know what it is you can work on too.”

“Yes, I should be taking notes… I’m going to change, thanks for everything An— pardon me, Johnny. Let’s get to your apartment; we need to talk about what happened before.”

“Aye aye.”

Before getting to your apartment, your phone rings, it’s none other than Constance…

“Who is it?”

“Constance.”

“What are you waiting for? Answer her.” Nina smiles.

Sadly, this is everything we have for this thread. See you next time and thanks for playing.

A lot of write-ins I wanted to add but couldn’t, oh well, I’m sorry if I didn’t include them. It was very fun again; here have a pic of Uccelli in a Chinese outfit. Sadly this is going to be the last time where going to have 3 sessions a week, sorry.

17 years old soon to be 18.

Also the way I see it, you just befriended her, so there isn't anything romantic going on yet.

Maybe that's the problem...
Next time she's teaching, she should try a bunny outfit to see if anybody will flirt with her!
