You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

The last thing you remember was having quite the enjoyable drink with Lucina, Niko, and Valentia as you celebrated defeating three Oriental warriors in combat. However, unfortunately, things seem to have gotten a bit fuzzy after that.

As you wake up, you find yourself...

As your eyes snap open, you realize that you're actually standing.

Well, not genuinely standing, technically. You were propped up against the wall behind you, which had kept you from falling over. But that still didn't explain just where you were or how you go there.

Your eyes scan your surroundings, and you immediately noted all of the snow white marble, golden inlays, and heavy oak doors. You were in a royal palace of some sort, occupied by a family wealthy enough to afford such extravagances.

The decadence absolutely disgusted you.

Back to the matter at hand, you were standing at the end of a long hallway. One side was a regular wall decorated with portraits of presumably long dead relatives and ancestors, On the other side were great glass windows positioned to allow the morning sunlight to flow in. You could also see the urban sprawl of Eisenwand down below, meaning you were still in the city, at the very least.

And behind you was the heavy oak door. It didn't seem locked, though. And judging from where you were standing, you could almost swear that you were standing guard in front of it.

What exactly happened...?

As you stand and wait, you are rewarded for your patience when the heavy oak doors behind you creak as they are pushed open.

And out strides Princess Lucina, though not in the adventuring clothes she is typically seen when out in public. No, she was wearing a simple shirt and skirt, her hair a complete tangled mess. It was clear she had just gotten out of bed.

Yawning loudly, Lucina shuffles past you, and then pauses as she tries to process the sight. Her eyes then snap open.

"T-Templar!!!!" Lucina yelps. "Y-you're still here?!"

You look to the left, and then to the right, and then shrug. Where else would you be?

"Ohmygosh, I'm so sorry, I don't think I ever did dismiss you like I said I would!" Lucina gasps in embarrassment. "You were seriously standing out there all night?!"

You just shrug. You were just as much in the dark on this as she was.

"O-oh dear." Lucina winces. "If my parents find us like this they'll be extremely cross. Do you remember the way out of here?"

No, no you do not.

You shake your head and shrug. Whatever way you came in here, you had completely forgotten.

"Really?" Lucina blinks. "All right, all right. You see that painting over there?"

She points to one of the mounted portraits that looked much larger than the rest. Instead of just showing the head and shoulders, it was a full body painting.

"There's a secret passage behind that painting. Just open it up and follow the path. It'll lead you out of the palace grounds. Just er, don't tell anybody, and try to stay quiet! The path goes between a few walls."

You nod in understanding.

"And, er, thanks for everything you did yesterday." Lucina smiles. "I really appreciate it."

You give a thumbs up as you carefully pop the painting open. It was a tight squeeze, but if you managed to make your way in before, you could make your way out...

The passage is long and twisting, and sometimes you're not quite sure what direction you're going, and all too often your armor clangs and makes scraping noises against the stone walls. But eventually, you manage to reach a trapdoor, which you push open and climb out.

...and you find yourself just outside the wall of Eisenwand's central palace, the trapdoor cleverly disguised as part of the road. You never would have realized it was there if you hadn't just risen from it. You carefully close the door, sealing the passage against any curious passers by.

"You spent quite a while in there." You hear Morgan speak.

You turn to see Morgan, perched atop on of the nearby walls, her wolf ears twitching in annoyance and she looks at you with suspicious eyes.

You tilt your head and point to Morgan. Was she...waiting for you?

"Of course I was!" Morgan fumes. "When I saw you and the Princess sneaking around the streets in the dark, I had to make sure things were okay!"

Wait... was she FOLLOWING you the whole time? You point at her again and then at yourself to ask.

"It's n-not like I was following you because I was worried." Morgan grunts and looks away. "I mean, not like I care if you just up and disappear without a word!"

Oddly, Morgan could be surprisingly honest when she was trying not to be.

"A-anyways." Morgan leaps down to the ground, her boots clacking against the cobblestones as she pulls her hood up to cover her ears. "We should be heading back to the Monastery."

You pull a Guild badge out of your pack and show it to Morgan. Perhaps it would do some good to stop by there and check things out while you're in the city.

"Well, I suppose I can't complain about that..." Morgan sighs and nods. "All right, let's go then."

The two of you make your way through the streets towards the Guild Hall. Morgan is mostly silent as she sticks close to your side, making double sure to avoid bumping into people. However, as the Guild Hall comes into sight, Morgan finally speaks up.

"So... what were you doing the palace? You never really did answer my question."

You shrug and tap your finger against your head.

"You're telling me don't remember?" Morgan rolls her eyes. "Guess all the armor in the world can't protect you against alcohol, huh?"

You nod in agreement.

"You were still IN your armor when you woke up, right?" Morgan asks, her voice much sterner and colder now.

You nod rather confidently and rap your knuckle against your breastplate. You weren't about to strip off your armor for anyone unless it was for a very, VERY good reason.

"Hmph. So you say." Morgan pouts. Probably still not fully convinced.

Finally, the two of you walk through the great entryway of the Guild Hall. It was just as grand as last time.

"We're going shopping?" Morgan blinks in surprise, and her cheeks redden. "Well, sure, I guess."

As always, Eisenwand's market district was a flurry of activity. In addition to the regular stores lining the streets, there were numerous stalls and wagons set up in all of the squares and side alleys as well. Townspeople and adventurers both were milling about in a massive crowd.

You watch as Morgan browses through the various shops and stalls, ever the watchful sentinel. Naturally, nobody really gives Morgan a second glance. Just another adventurer among thousands living in this city.

You, on the other hand, still draw quite the number of stares, ranging from awe, curiosity, and of course, distrust. Thankfully nobody decides to pick a fight with you. At least for today.

Finally, you see Morgan waving at you to come over. You politely begin to push your way through the crowd over to her, where you see her holding...

You see that Morgan had picked out an... innocuous black box. You look at the box, then to her, and then to the price tag.

It was a good thing you were wearing your helmet, because the price for whatever was inside was MASSIVE. Easily the the cost of an entire bounty payment!

However, you did make a promise to Morgan, and you were sure that she would not have picked such an expensive item without good reason. She was always a very frugal individual otherwise. You suppose you'd just have to endure Naru's wrath for the next few days.

You point to the box, wondering what's in it.

"That's a secret." Morgan smiles as she puts a finger to her lips.

Pretty cheeky. You turn to the shopkeeper.

"Hey, don't look at me. I don't want to make the little lady here angry." The shopkeeper chuckles and shakes his head.

You look at his wares, but they're a wide variety of random trinkets. Impossible to narrow things down...

You decide to let it go for now. It wasn't worth trying to force Morgan to tell you what she was getting, even if it was a bit on the pricey side. With a bit of a reluctant sigh, you pull a handful of gold coins out of your coin pouch and place them down on the counter.

"Good doing business with you!" The shopkeeper says happily.

With that done, you and Morgan begin making your way back to the Monastery. Morgan was in the much better mood now. There was a bit of a spring to her step, and you could almost swear she was humming a tune under her breath. Though that could just be your ears tricking you in the bustle of the city.

As you and Morgan walk through the streets, you notice Morgan's happy jaunt disappear, and she starts to slow her pace so you can catch up to her.

"We're being followed." She mutters.

You only barely tilt you head down to her.

"Not sure who they are, but there's three people tailing our movements." Morgan explains. You can see her ears twitching wildly under her hood. "I can hear metal clinking, too. They're well armed and armored."

You make a fist with one of your hands and punch it into your other palm, indicating you were going to pick a fight.

"Great, but where?" Morgan asks as her eyes dart side to side. "I don't think we want to be making a scene out of this. Maybe lure them into a side alley or outside the city?"

Well, in the side alleys, the battlefield would be narrow and cramped. Good for you in that it would force the numerically superior enemy into chokepoints, but you and Morgan wouldn't have much room to maneuver. Out in the fields, you could move more freely, but so could they. Facing them in the city streets could convince them not to start anything, but if trouble did start, you'd have a lot of explaining to do to the City Guard...

You nudge Morgan and nod to the rooftops above. She would serve much better providing fire support from up high.

Plus, if the City Guard got involved, it'd be easier for her to escape their notice. You were okay with getting caught, but not her.

"Right." Morgan nods as she tries to slip away.

Meanwhile, you begin to stride forward in the direction of your pursuers in an effort to keep their attention on you.

Thankfully, your sheer, dominating presence is enough to draw the attention of the three individuals tailing you, who were now pretty obvious to you. At the corner of your vision, Morgan slips away into a side alley and out of your own line of sight.

You return your a attention to your little tailing party. Two of them were wearing heavy cloaks, so you couldn't really get a good look at what they were wearing or carrying. Or even who they were. The third was wearing fairly heavy plate armor and a face concealing helmet.

They all stopped and tried to pretend they were just milling about and browsing the nearby stalls, but you weren't being fooled. Otherwise, they were making no moves.

You give your best, most intimidating glare at the strangers. You can see them all clearly hesitate, and two of them: one of the hooded ones and the armored one, begin to back off. The third and last member turns to see his comrades retreating, but instead of following them, he instead charges straight at you!

Or, he at least would have if Morgan didn't drop an arrow straight into his boot.

The man topples to the ground and screams, clutching his injured foot. As he falls, his hood is also knocked askew, fully revealing his face.

An Elf.

However, before you could discern any more features, the downed Elf disappears in a sea of panicked bodies as people flee for cover.

You feel a light impact on your helmet as a small pebble bounces off your visor. You crane our head upwards, and see Morgan signalling to you furiously that it was time to leave. Even you could hear the furious clanking of City Guard coming to investigate the scene.

You had no wish to get arrested or questioned, especially since the Guard were sure to suspect you first. You start moving away with the crowd, evading the notice of the City Guards as they rush past. You're not sure when Morgan linked up with you, but you find her at your side when you reach the nearest city gate.

"Jeez, what was that all about?" Morgan pants. "Elves tracking us in the streets of Eisenwand!?"

You nod. That was certainly a very concerning development...
