Glory to Alainn!

You are Cathal Rathais, one of the chosen elite, the 13th Legion, scouting a world 4231 years after your country won the Grand War and placed itself in cryostasis to allow the planet to recover.

You have assumed the false name "Ace Locke" for your hunter identity. So far, only two people have seen through it, one of which can read minds.

A Faerie from an alternate world has altered your body, making you appear much younger.

so far you have:
>Updated your bunker database

You enter the Archivum structure and are greeted with a blast of climate-controlled air. The humidity of outside had been lost on you, but now you feel cool.

You are greeted by a man and a woman. The woman bears brown robes, but the man bears blue with red inside.

"Ah, welcome! You are Ace, right? How is the airship?"

You gaze around, the structure seems empty.

"Those FEATHER soldiers made this, but they have yet to tell us how any of what they have works. It's pretty frustrating to see all that technology and not know a bit about it..." The man crosses his arms, "They just told us how to control the air and lights in here."

"New shipments of Archivum materials are due by airship. Until then it's just us..." The woman apologizes.

"How has the city handled these changes?"

"The whole place has been pretty lifeless since Garvelton industries was driven away. Almost like everyone was puppets with their strings cut." Strange... Garvelton had a bigger influence than you thought.

"What does that mean exactly?"

"They were listless. The FEATHER soldiers could order them to do anything and they'd just sort of do it. It seems some sort of foul magic was at play here..." Well, that's certainly in line with what Clark said...

"How has FEATHER treated you?"

"Well, I haven't had any negative interactions with them... it's more like a greeting and farewell if anything. They seem to ignore us unless we try to sneak into things..." FEATHER seems to operate like any military group then.

"No altercations?"

"No, they actually rebuilt this structure for us. Quite nice of them, but the methods were..." The man frowned, "Nonmagical but alarmingly quick." Alainn could do the same, probably prefabricated structures.

"Since FEATHER is militant, it's probably best not to snoop into their operations. It's more likely for your safety." You warn.

You enter the unusual shop. The owner is not present, but Clark appears to be browsing the store. He has a small statue of some bird-human hybrid in his hand.

"...and this one is authentic." he rips the magic from it with one hand and clenches his fist around it. He then notices you.

"Ah! If it isn't my old compatriots. Welcome back to Inis. As you can see, Alleria has been remaking it quite rapidly. I've finished clearing all of the major effects, and the remainder should die out soon. What can I assist you with?"
>What has Alleria been up to?

"Have you paid attention to what Alleria has been up to?"

"The fae? She secured the anomaly. A faerie intruded, but she killed it instantly before she took the area. She also posted notices at the guild for finding someone called Professor Jeremy Trost." Clark shrugged, "Other than that, she seems to be setting up a technological power base here in Inis, so I doubt any fae are going to corrupt anything here soon." Clark places the statue back on the shelf, "Quite unusual for a powerful fae... Technically it weakens her."

You frown, it's hard to tell who to back in this sibling conflict. Alleria has helped you and appears to oppose the fae, Whereas Jeremy seems to also threaten the fae and has been nothing if not friendly.

"What are you doing in here, Clark?"

"Ah, I told you I was an enforcer of the forgotten magic, yes? I am destroying the magical aspect of dark artifacts in this shop. That way we don't get another Garvelton gallivanting about." He pauses, staring at Vee.

"Oh my... What an intriguing friend you've brought. I can feel some corruption of both our magic and fae magic, but a nonliving shell... Oh... THAT is new." Clark grins before turning to you, "It's rare I see such a thing."
>What exactly do you see regarding her?
>Alleria killed a faerie? Isn't she one herself, though?

"What exactly do you see?" This question leads Clark to draw in close to you, grinning.

"Ah, well, entities like myself... we consider that little bit of corruption on an unliving thing as a spark of life. I haven't seen it for a long time." Just how old is Clark? You get the feeling he'd never tell you, "The more it grows the more lifelike she'll get. She's grown a bit from what I can see."

"Isn't Alleria a fae? Why would she kill a faerie?"

"Mmm, she's a very powerful one. I would say that she would possibly be the third most powerful fae you could encounter, but she acts far more... human. Fae are whimsical and sporadic. She follows patterns and subtleties." He glances down at the anti-fae weapon on you, "I hope you aren't planning on destroying her. I'll have no part in that battle."

"Ah, well, that's not really something under consideration currently..." Or is it? "Are those dark artifacts common?"

"Mercifully, no. A little shop like this will often have one or two fakes. A real one is incredibly rare. This one undoubtedly reached this store due to Garvelton's influence. I've destroyed most of them over the years."

"Why would you opt out of fighting Alleria if it came to that?" He was all for fighting her when you met...

Clark removes his glasses, cleaning them as he explains, "In my position, one of the most important aspects is loyalty." Something you can certainly agree with, "Alleria fought beside be to free this region from dark influences, as did you. Neither you, nor she had any obligation to do so, unlike me. Since it's something like my job to regulate the flow of such magic, I would have done this all alone." He placed the glasses back, "After you left, she continued to aid me, even though the threat to her was now absent. I take great care to not betray my allies."

You feel a bit guilty for considering destroying Alleria.

"W-we'll get to the reason we came here now. We intend to enter the anomaly. Would you come with us?"

"Oh? Well, I'm just about done here, I don't mind rejoining you for the time being." Clark responds.

>Clark Thule, the forgotten demigod, has rejoined your party.

"Might I ask, will we be gathering Alleria as well?"

"I'm not necessarily sure that's a good idea..."

"Ah, this has to do with the little one, doesn't it?" He shoots a glance at Vee, "Very well."

With Clark retrieved, you exit the shop.

The guild hall has gotten the same treatment as the Archivum building. It's far more spacious inside, though, and seating around plants fills the main room.

There is no receptionist still, but the bulletin board contains requests. None of the hunters from before are present. in fact, the room seems pretty empty. A notice on the receptionist desk states the Hunter's Guild is currently working on restaffing this branch.

The rest are scouting missions investigating various regions. The Northern wastes, the green forests, and Otharthur Desert. Another is a request to locate The Madman. Alleria is trying everything to locate Jeremy, it seems.

Titan's arm is notably not on the list. There's also a quest to capture a dragon. Looks like FEATHER is going to be at odds with the dragon rangers soon.

"Ah, right, I need my old tech from my field lab. The hidden section, mind. There is also a few materials you miiiiight have to pick up from my old workplace... Lab 3."

"...What's in lab 3?"

"A few prototypes, a dozen notes on anomalies, and a stash of raw materials. Don't worry, Vee will provide ample assistance."

"...what about your secret lab, are you sure it's intact?"

"Please, I put an excellent passcode in place and placed it VERY inconspicuously. You'd have to find my secret storeroom and THEN the secret lab is inside it. I am a master of stealth." You doubt this master of stealth... his latest hidden base is a flying city. If anything, there's a good chance his secret lab might have some resistance around it.

You stand before the ripple in the air, hesitantly. It isn't until Vee strides right into the anomaly. You take a brief glance at your party.

"Oh, come now." Clark smirks, walking in after her. You decide to stride in next.

Stale air hits you, dusty and somewhat polluted. Around you are ruined skyscrapers and destroyed roads and vehicles. Pisteia staggers through and blinks, looking around.

"What sort of place is this?"

Artoria lets out a gasp, "There... there is no magic in this air."

Vee turns back towards the group, her eyes glowing from under the brown hood, "No... There is no magic here. Only the fae have magic in this reality. Conserve your magic."

Uriel frowns, glancing about, "What a dismal place. The northern wastes aren't even this miserable..."

Vee looks back to the path and continues forward, "Many people lived here. It was polluted and noisy... I'll provide a map."

The destruction reminds you of the Grand War. A burned out shell of a tank you can't recognize lies along the road.

"Is the entire world like this?" You follow the android.

"No, several areas went unscathed, and the fae turn everything into magical forests. And by everything I do mean everything. People sleeping in the wastes might end up as plants or fruit as the faelands expand. Lucky ones end up as fae. As lucky as having your mind rewritten and body replaced is, that is..."

Artoria blinks, rushing up to you, "S-sir, I'm getting a very strong FEATHER signal." Her projectors flicker with information.

>You are in FEATHER-dominated airspace. FEATHER is able to provide the full extent of support. You may now call in airstrikes and supply drops while in this region.

You pass a shantytown wedged between two buildings. Vee and Jeremy are present on posters. Vee is pictured with glowing red eyes and listed as 'The tiny juggernaut.' Jeremy on the other hand is "The Butcher of Lab 3." Vee keeps walking, hood down.

"Ignore the posters. They are bounties posted by the laboratories." She hands you a printed map, small, but legible.

"We'll head to lab 3." Skirting along the edge of the ruined city, sometimes you see a jet streak over head, explosions blossoming in the massive forest sprawling on one side.

The forest is strange. On occasion you spy a winged creature fluttering through it... You almost feel drawn to the forest.

"What about the other labs?"

"What other labs?"

"Lab 4 and 6... What of them?"

"Lab 6 was taken by Lab 4. They killed everyone and took all the resources. Lab 6 was a walker production lab. Many mechs were developed. Lab 4 is a cloning lab. They mass-produced soldiers. Now with 6's resources, they mass-produce piloted mechs...
They are at war with FEATHER and the fae." Vee explains.

"...interesting."

"what is it?"

"Lab 4's data traffic apparently stopped 5 days ago. FEATHER has no reports on successful assault... There's still mechs in action, but it seems their home base was destroyed not too long ago." Vee shakes her head.

Hugging the coast, your party manages to avoid the fae.

You opt out of the possibility of more reinforcements.

you make your way to Lab 3 to find Feather fortifications... Destroyed fortifications, that is. Bullet holes riddle the entrance, which looks more like a hole that was blasted out from inside. Massive claw marks indicate a creature of some sort tearing apart the fortress...

And then there are the bodies of armored FEATHER soldiers. You hadn't seen any of them die yet so it's a little jarring to see so many bodies. Most are... half-eaten. In the depths you see something stir. the flicker of abused lights reveals an undulating form. Vee takes a step back.

"#12... Chelsea." She says quietly.

"the... creature seems to have... only human DNA." Artoria whispers. It seems lab 3 isn't as inactive as Jeremy said... No, it seems to be VERY active.

You unsling your rifle. This abomination will taste the fury of your nation! GLORY TO THE GRAND GENERAL! GLORY TO ALAINN!
Almeda does the same. You rush forward.

"Okay, we're doing this then." Clark shrugs as he falls in behind you. The lack of magic seems to not apply to his powers. Vee's own powerful rifle is aimed.

You fire a blistering hail of rounds at the monstrous creature. It lurches towards you, limbs unfurling as it lets out an inhuman screech. Your shots scorch the thick hide. Some even cause some deep wounds. Vee's shot makes a huge slash on the creature. Clark, on the other hand binds it with some sort of black magic chains.

Pisteia hesitates, "If... if that thing is human, my sword won't do much to it."

You continue to pour fire and fury into the thing.

After a good deal of time and a lot of shots, the creature finally heaves and collapses, dead.

Vee slips a few bullets onto her gun's magazine, "...And there lies the dreamer."

The flickering hallways of lab 3 lie before you like a hungry maw.

"Vee... did you know that thing?"

"She was Chelsea. I don't know her last name. Subject #12. Frail, weak.... Loved fish tanks. Wanted to be an artist someday." Vee folds her rifle and attaches it to her back, "Of course, Jeremy thought beneficial results from the engineering of other bioweapons would benefit her, like the rest." She stares at the corpse of the monstrosity, "In actuality the 30 patients were chosen for ideal genetic malleability. #1 to #15 were completed. The rest were freed in our escape, but..." She stares at the dark hallway, "Dr. Krasis was always skilled at lying."

Clark nods, "And I thought the fae were horrific."

You have more questions, but it seems the answers lie inside. Vee's tone indicates she hates talking about it.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures. Inhumane results, but I can understand why they may have felt the need."

You head into the ruins of the laboratory. The lighting is dismal, holes in the ceiling light the place better than the damaged lights and flickering consoles.

>38
A camera tracks you. You hear the crackling of a speaker. A male voice can be heard.

"Oh my, more intruders, and #12 still couldn't repel them. Looks like a motley crew... is that a sword? A guitar? Heh. Well, you aren't FEATHER... how did you get past-"

The camera focuses on Vee's hooded form.

"The Tiny Juggernaut herself. Did that traitor Jeremy finally die? Come back for some revenge?" A laugh cackles on the damaged speakers, "Your dear professor might have ruined a third of the lab, but we are still fully operational. Let's-" You hear voices talking, "Ah, yes, we'll send #15 after you then. It's time to finally get rid of you, disgusting robot."

You hear something creak in the distance, and a bone-chilling roar.

"#15. George. Designed specifically to destroy heavy armor, and immune to medium and small arms fire. Speed is slow." Vee announced.

You hear something breaking down one of the dark halls. Something big is coming towards you.

You set the turrets from your manor while Vee aims. Her shot goes soaring down the hallway, leaving a trail of fire. In the distance you spy a chitinous hide.
>85
The shot hits, but... it doesn't seem to do much.

"Ah. They fixed that weakness. I am afraid heavy weapons will do nothing to #15 head on."

You have Vee lob several grenades. They explode, but #14 keeps coming. Draining some of his magic, Uriel summons phantasms to harass the creature. It slows down briefly to attack them. Clark sends a bolt of dark energy that seems to do some damage, but the warlock grimaces, "That was supposed to paralyze it."

Now within range, your turrets open fire on the creature, pelting the thick chitinous wall advancing towards your party.

"These attacks seem ineffective. Perhaps we should pull back." Artoria with a worried expression is a new one, "If we lure it out perhaps we can radio FEATHER to airstrike it."

"There are more than this one in the lab deeper in, we can't rely on air support for some in the future..." Vee warns.

"Right, let's pull back and call in an airstrike. Artoria!" You strat to backpedal, the rest of your party follows suit,

"Already calling for one." You can see the menu flicker on her projection as your group rushes to the outside.

"Coordinates are at lab 3. Bioweapon of extreme durability." Artoria states. You hear a crackle of radio static and a confirmation.

#15 lurches out of the entryway, the remains of Alainn turrets splayed across its sharp claws. It grunts and faces you.

The scream of engines fills the air. Several jet aircraft streak over head, and several clusters of missiles ram into the creature. It lets out a mournful groan and collapses. The rear of the creature now worn away. It bleeds out, dying.

"...Apologies. We didn't know." Vee levels her gun at one of the humanlike eyes, firing point-blank into it.

The aircraft circle about and fly back over the ocean. This place is incredibly dangerous, who knows what lies within. Vee apparently recalls the experiments, but you will never know which you'll face.

You push into the labs, moving deep inside from the direction the creature came. Vee's eyes click, acting as bright lights for the path ahead. You reach a busted and heavily damaged lab, and a sealed door.

"This was the Professor's workstation. His stash and notes are deeper inside. I can open the door." Upon opening the door, you are met with untouched hallway, save for scrapes from #15 before it came to attack you.

There are also soldiers in camo and body armor aiming at Vee. They are trembling.
"Not another step or we shoot!" It seems they are armed with automatic slugthrowers.

"Dr. Krasis is being lax..." Vee mutters.

Vee takes a step forward. Bullets fly. You aren't sure what's more impressive, the fact the guns seem to do nothing to Vee or the fact she continues advancing, unfolding her gun.

With a crackle of electricity, Vee suddenly leaps forward. A swing of her rifle sends one soldier crashing into the other with such force they hit the wall as well. Considering the splatter, you doubt either of them are alive.

The robot girl looks down one hallway, "More of them."

Vee grips her rifle by the barrel and charges into the hall.

You enter the laboratory. Various computers and counter tops fill the room, bottles of chemicals lining the wall

But what catches your attention is a scared-looking, motherly young woman. She tearfully implores you, "Please! They've been making me do horrible things in this lab to children! You have to stop them! I-I might be able to help you..."

"We are looking for Jeremy Trost's room, could you lead us there?" You ask the woman.

"AH! Yes, of course! It's in the lower levels of the lab. Please, follow me!" The woman gathers her clipboard and leads you down another path.

The speaker crackles, "Vee has reached sector 4! Releasing hounds! All soldiers intercept. Deploying turrets!"

>Vee has temporarily left the party.

"W-we'll want to avoid that girl. The defenses will be activated along her path." The woman states, arriving at an elevator.

"Who are you, by the way?"

"Oh my! I never introduced myself! I'm Dr. Vira. I'm in charge of the healthcare and well-being of the staff."

You take the elevator down, "I knew Professor Trost, actually. He discovered a terrible secret in the lab and left, sabotaging an entire wing... I learned of it myself." her voice trembles as she clutches the clipboard. The elevator dings and you are shown a hallway devoid of defenses. "This way!"

Dr. Vira leads you to Jeremy Trost's laboratory. Artoria looks over the equipment, "I could probably collect the data from the computer."

You gather up some weapon parts with the rest of the party. Vira frantically looks up and down the hall.

"That girl must have drawn all the soldiers to her... And the hounds."

The speaker crackles, "More intruders breaching sector 3! Move #13 and #14 to intercept!"
"Ooo... Dr. Krasis is going to be mad about this..." Dr. Vira gulps.

Artoria pulls the data from the computer, storing it on a tiny stick she'd found nearby. With all the materials he'd left behind, you leave the lab.

"There might be bioweapons on this level. We should take the cargo elevator to go back up." She points to a large circular chamber which appears to be a lift for larger objects.

There are a total of three doorways. Dr. Vira point to the largest across from you, "There is a laser turret system in that one that will kill any unregistered user. I can activate the lift controls there."
>Inspect controls

"Why can't we use the other elevator?"

Dr. Vira looks back at you, "Because in the event of a breach, the lab goes on lockdown, any elevator that went down can't go up again except the cargo one." What an inconvenient system.

"Perhaps there are stairs?" Clark asks. Vira only shakes her head. "With another set of intruders, they might be using them to send hounds from the kennels..."

It seems this is the only way up.

Looking at the doorway, you can see it does indeed have laser turrets in a deactivated state.

"The juggernaut has reached the residences! All personel, pull back to the secure area!" The speaker shouts, "I repeat, Dr. Krasis' orders are to retreat in the event of an invasion!"

"We have to hurry! Once they are in the secure wing, they release all the experiments!"

"Go ahead and send us up." Vira nods, moving to the controls. She presses a few keys...

And a thick metal door slams shut between you and her.

Lights flicker on in the round room, the door behind you slams shut as well.

"Ahahahahah... You are all so gullible..." Above, a viewing deck flickers on. Vira stands above, looking down, "I'm sorry, but I might have skipped a detail on my introduction... I am Dr. Vira Krasis, Director of Lab 3." The large doors to either side slowly open.

"It's a good thing you split from Vee, nor did you have any FEATHER soldiers, otherwise my ruse would have never worked. Thanks for splitting up."

Growling can be heard, and the glinting of many eyes can be seen in the darkness.

"But enough talk, if any of you survive this, I might just make a #31 out of you all. My pets?
Kill."

She moves to one of the larger doors and hits a panel within. The platform lurches. Soon you are carried up, just in time, as the shape of one of the bioweapons was beginning to form in the dark.

"There are FEATHER soldiers from the nearby encampment attacking, since we killed #12."

As you pass the observation window, Vee and Dr. Krasis exchange a glare.

"Already inside the secure wing?A coward as usual." Vee mutters. The platform lurches to a halt.

"Heh, you've got some fun names, but if it works, who am I to judge."

You follow Sam's squadron. The lights from their outfits cover the room well. It seems to be a hallway leading to another room.

Then one of the soldiers to one side lets out a gasp. You look just in time to see the severed legs of one of the hazmat soldiers drop to the floor. Guns train up at a creature on the ceiling, crunching bones in a massive maw that dominates the length of the oddly humanoid body.

"Open fire!" One of the soldiers shouts. The creature scurries along the ceiling. Your group does the same. Shoots impact the concrete of the hallway, and each burst of gunfire reveals where the creature is.

"I've had enough of this hiding!" Clark groans in frustration. A black ball is send up. It pulses purple before a multitude of chains are shot out. The creature is pulled to the ball, right into the line of fire.

"#1, Edgar." Vee states, firing her rifle at the creature, obliterating it, "Serial killer."

Sam gulped, "Thank you, we probably would have died here without you. We're just a recovery team..." The doorway ahead is open...

It appears to be a laboratory with a large open vat. "This is a bioweapon starge lab." Vee observes.

"Secure the data from the computers. Gather up any chemical solutions and research notes." One of the hardsuit soldiers orders. You look through the goods to find your own loot.

>You have recovered two Laboratory Assault Carbines. Kept in pristine condition, these weapons aren't meant for combat environments.
