>>Information

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a thirty (thirty one) year old man named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have ten minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls will be used on certain occasions, such as attempting a technique for the first time or attempting something extremely difficult. You will have three rolls, and if one succeeds, you succeed. There are no crits.

Rolls are made AFTER an option wins, not during the voting process

I hope everyone has fun.

Semi-Perfect Cell

>>
Trunks locks horns with Cell in a fierce exchange a far distance from where you hover. It's hard to tell who will emerge the victor, but it's too close a match for your liking.

Unfortunately, there's little you can do about that in your current situation. Cell's Merry-Go-Round Gun has your arms pretty firmly locked to your sides, making you a far less effective fighter than you would be otherwise.

You struggle to move your hands, attempting to point your fingers up at the gum, and cut through it with your energy, but before you can accomplish this, you find yourself crying out in pain as the skin on your back begins to burn.

Turning around, you find Thirteen holding a hand toward you, grinning wickedly.

"Now now, two on one hardly seems fair, boy," the machine tells you. "Hows about you stay back and let yer kid give it a try? I'm sure you're curious just how strong he is, and Doctor Gero's mighty curious about how strong Cell is right now."

"What are you talking about?" you demand, struggling against your binds. "Gero's dead!"

The Android crosses his arms and chuckles darkly. "Not quite. I can't go into much detail without pissing the old man off, but he's still around, just lyin' low."

That shouldn't be possible, you're pretty damn sure you killed Gero yourself not too long ago. Both he and Nineteen should have been sent to the great big scrap heap in the sky. This big blue bastard's gotta be joking, right?

As you keep on struggling to free yourself, the Android laughs.

"You're wastin' your time, kiddo," he tells you. "That stuff's a whole hell of a lot stronger than you are. Fat beast wasn't good for much, but he had one useful technique up his sleeve."

We're rather useless as it is. 13 and Cell won't be giving us a chance to break free, and every second spent not fighting Cell is a losing battle.

This Red Ribbon redneck doesn't know what he's talking about. You're going to get out of this crap, you just need to be smart about it. You think of a frozen land in the far North, and with a simple phrase, you find yourself there, shaking from the cold as soon as you appear.

Hopefully, the freezing climate will brittle up this gum. In any case, you resume trying to maneuver your hands, and manage to fire off a small shot that chips away a bit of the gum.

Getting your hands right for more shots proves quite difficult, but as the minutes pass by, you feel the gum giving bit by bit. Soon, you're able to break free.

With another uttering of "Kai-Kai" you're able to return to the battlefield, finding a horrific sight playing out before you.

Your son's feet are disappearing into the monster's tail, his sword having fallen to the ground below. Thirteen watches with glee as your son vanishes into the monster's body.

Is 13 the overpowering one? Cell was on par with us, and Trunks is now on par with us.
>>
>>1802873
I'm assuming Cell is much more powerful than 13.

or perhaps trunks rolled piss poor behind the scenes.

Our 93 got us back in time to help, which we have a chance to do.
>>
>>1802882
>or perhaps trunks rolled piss poor behind the scenes.
>implying that even happens with this QM
SOM is like the writers of Game of Thrones. It isn't "anything can happen;" it's "if it's bad, it will happen."
>>
>>1802818
I don't know man. The gum severely limited our options and we got nailed with that pretty quickly. And then a 93 wasn't enough to get out quickly. Really, it seems like the only "winning" move was to bail with Trunks after we got hit. And then we might as well have waited for Goku to maximize our chances.

I guess it's time to wait for Goku anyway.
>>
>>1802895
The winning option was to Ki explosion the stuff off of us in the first round.

failing that, we could have burst it with pure strength while using Bear Shout. since we rolled 93 we would have probably tapped into our god ki and annihilated 13 entirely.

it might not have saved trunks, but it would have been more optimal.

We've been fucking around trying to create cool new moves because one anon has a hardon for the bear claw move and wants to create it in combat.

SOM uses hidden DC's these days.

But the point is moot since he appears to have died. Hopefully he recovers and can run again soon.
>>
>>1802904
we could also have electrocuted, burned, or simply Ki'd it off. instead we chose to try to use the Kai Kai in a manner it is SPECIFICALLY not intended.

FFS touching something is what actually determines what it does or does not include.

We JUST had a training arc about getting back to basics, but Anons want to do stupid shit.

Which isnt to say write ins are bad, they arent. but some write ins are dumb as fuck.
>>
>>1802904
>SOM uses hidden DC's these days.
I'm convinced he just pulls it out of his ass when the rolling is over. Or has it set as a constant. Probably 85~90.
>>
>>1802904
>>1802915
I don't know, Som usually likes it when we're "smart" and "creative", rather than using brute force. The problem is that this is Dragon Ball and the difference between clever and retarded is razor thin. God knows we would've rolled like shit anyway.

Also do we actually know any burning techniques?

They tend to be pretty shallow with easy-to-digest lore compared to other fanfiction quests.

>>
>>1803546
>easy-to-digest lore
That's about the nicest thing I could say about him. Or his persistence that you mentioned.

And I hesitate to even call it lore, or to even call his writing writing. 90% of the time it's so minimal and completely devoid of feeling that he might as well be green texting all this shit.
>>

>>
>>1803598
>And I hesitate to even call it lore
The only point of divergence is the player character, which can work, but is pretty lazy in general.

I'll use Naruto quests as better examples of a fanfic setting done right because I know SOM hates them.

Boruto Quest & Future Naruto Quest
>I'll just briefly mention these two because they're pretty much entirely OC besides a handful of characters and the core concepts. Which means they're pretty much the exact opposite of this it would be like apples and oranges.

Leaf Ninja Quest & Shinobi Quest
>Lumping these two together because Wargle didn't have a creative bone in his body and most of the changes are pretty much the same between the two of them.
>The addition of the PC is more than just "this person now exists in this universe" they've actually had interactions/an impact (get it?) before the start of the story.
>There are other lore changes: no Uchiha Massacre/Nine Tails Attack, the canon protagonist is a departure from how they are in canon.
>Other original characters actually reoccur and they're not just canon characters with one or two things changed about them.
>What the PC does meaningfully changes the course of events: the progression of the Chunin Exams/the result of the Konoha Crush vs the Namek in this, where major events were canon almost to a T.
I didn't even like Country or Wargle but at least they were either more creative or better writers than SOM, respectively.
>>
>>1803612

>>
>>1803989

>>
>>1803639
These are good points. I think my major problems with Som's quests are along those lines, as well. I've actually really liked how he's handled the Android saga so far, because I liked that we were able to just throw everything out of whack for a while. This last post notwithstanding, I think this has been a pretty strong saga.

The biggest problems I have with Som's quests are the way he handles options, and the way he handles roll results.

As far as options go, I legitimately don't understand why he even bothers giving the players dialogue options most of the time. Under most circumstances, there is usually one choice that's clearly superior to the others, or provides Tofoo with the greatest amount of information, and that almost always gets chosen. Alongside those, however, are usually two or three other choices which also make sense, or which are written as though they expand further on that first, optimal choice. Because Som allows players to vote for multiple choices, and because they're framed in that particular way, what usually happens is everyone just votes for everything, or votes for the three or four which all form a cohesive conversation.

If you're going to do that, why have choices at all? You could just save choices for when they really, really count, and allow Tofoo to have his already-established voice in cases like this.

Combat is the other thing I'm not a fan of, and not because the DC's are high. I don't mind that. The premise of the quest is for this to be an uphill battle for Tofoo, because he's a regular human in a world full of shonen nonsense. The problem is that each success or failure means very little in the grand scheme of things.

What I mean by that is it feels like each call for a roll is a snapshot of the fight, and we're rolling to determine how well we perform at each of those snapshots. Each one is a quick-time event in the video game we're pretending to play. Then, once we succeed or fail the quick-time event, we move on to the next one. If we succeeded it, great! We got a sentence about how Tofoo did the cool thing. If we failed, not so great! We get a sentence where the bad guy gets the better of us for a moment, then we move on to the next one. Each of these little snapshots means very little, because unless we fail absolutely catastrophically several times in a row, we're just going to move on to see the rest of them.Every fight carries the impression that we're in it for exactly as long as we need to be, and that our performance hinges almost entirely on the final one or two rolls, instead of it being an advantage to be pressed or won back.

Yeah, this is pretty shitty. Plus, I'm genuinely worried about the guy, if he could go this long despite people bitching all the time then something had to have happened right? He doesn't seem the type to quit, he's done a shit ton of quests and when he's cancelled he's usually upfront about it. This is....I don't even know, but it's just kind of sad and a little worrying.
>>

>Each of these little snapshots means very little
Hasnt Tofoo died like 3 times? Twice because of one shot catastrophically bad rolls?

Didn't we ass-blast cooler with a one shot because of crit rolls?

I think you are being pretty hyperbolic right here. As someone who was detached from the bullshit, being that I dont read other som quests, and I didn't even start reading the archive until the android saga starts, the consequences and the stakes in these threads has been consistent and nail biting the entire way through.

That said Soms dialogue sucks hard boiled ass and that is really the biggest flaw I can find in his style, even in consideration of that last post. We abandoned our sun and we deal with the consequences. We decided to use the god teleport in a shitty poor manner, throwing the fight from trunks' favor instead of just BEAR SCHOOL-ing our way out of it.

And before anyone says "Oh so we were supposed to just fight no armed and lose?"
Yes to the first part, and no to the second. We know 3 techniques that we can fire off with our arms constricted, and TRUNKS NEEDED US

WE COULD HAVE FOOT KAMEHAMEHA, LIGHT SHOT, OR BEAR SHOUTED TO GIVE HIM COVERING FIRE, AND EASILY COULD HAVE BTFO 13 LITERALLY WITH OUR HANDS TIED

But people chose a bad path, now lets keep going and just fucking wreck this shit.
>>
>>1804833
I mean, you're right that those things did happen. But those are particularly spectacular outliers compared to how the fights usually go.
>>
>>1804851
I'm not gonna expect something as ridiculous as for a spread of how all the fights so far have gone down, but could you maybe point out one or two examples of what you think the worst offenders are. The way it is, I cant refute anything you are saying, because there is not evidence here to be refuted, just opinion which you are pretty much entitled to.

I've said basically everything I can to convince you that isn't just conjecture on what I think you might be referring to. As far as I'm aware nothing really sticks out in my mind as drawn out bullshit except the fight with Jackie Chun, and that was more for effect I think than anything.
>>
>>1804776
On one hand, this sounds like something that could happen, and is why my computer doesn't face the street.

On the other hand, kind of doubting it.

Sorry to hear it either way.
>>
>>1804884
I don't really have specific examples off the top of my head. The things I mentioned are both issues I've noticed since I first started reading Som's threads, which was back during Human Quest. And you're right that it's just opinion, ultimately. They're what I personally see as Som's biggest issues when it comes to how he puts together his quests.
>>
>>1804776
well if true that sucks and i wish him luck
>>
>>1804776
God, that sounds like something that'd happen to Som.
>>
>>1804833
You're overemphasizing the relative stupidity of trying to teleport out of the gum. It was a clever sounding idea that would've been lauded as brilliant if we rolled well, but we didn't. And that's the thing: the dice can make the most clever choice look absolutely retarded and the most retarded choice look absolutely brilliant after the fact. We're encouraged to fight smarter, not harder, but the invisible DCs and the swinginess of the dice make it difficult to impossible to tell when we're being clever and creative and when we're being retarded.
>>

>>1805130
His own quest where he just outright kill MC with our shitty rolls.
>>
>leaving trunks alone for any period of time
who didn't see this coming?
>>
>>1805145

In theory, teleporting, get the gum cooled down so it can be broken and then return back shouldn't have taken more than 2 seconds tops, enough to barely affect Trunk's performance.

But getting an excellent roll somehow translates into spending several minutes in the cold and return only when Trunks got ass devastated and about to up Cell to perfect level. Such is the way of SOM
>>
>>1805158

This stinks to high heaven like 7 different ways of absolute bullshit

But I guess we are gonna see huh? Watch the twitter guys

So SOM got Home invaded, Shot, and BLACKED while questing?
>>
>>1804776
>>1805593
According to his twitter, he liked a post the morning after he suddenly vanished from the thread.

Granted, he hasn't done anything since then, but that's still pretty good for a guy in a coma.

Here. >>1805593 tried to get his phone, but fucked up and somehow pulled up all his saved porn. From what I heard, his parents disowned him for having all that fat futa porn on it.

I mean, if he really is in the hospital, this shouldn't be hard to prove. Give us a timestamp. It doesn't even need to be from his phone. Hell, give us a newspaper article detailing the crash.

Regardless of whether it happened or not, though, the longer we go without any proof, the more Som just kind of looks like he dodged out of the quest and tried making an excuse for sympathy.
>>
>>1806743
SOM doesn't seem the type of person to be into Futa to me.
He gives me that whole "Not gay" vibe.
There might be any number of degen fetishes, I wouldn't be surprised if he was into violent domination. Not gay fetishes tho.

Eh, give it at least two weeks worth of time before confirming the poor dude's fate.
It's a coma after all.
If it it is true.
Then it's shitty luck.
