Welcome to A Song of Silver & Sword: House Grallner Quest. Here we will follow the journey of Ser Landon Grallner, the Knight of Whitestone Keep sworn to House Belmore of Strong Song. The year is 288AC, winter is at its peak in the Vale, and the coffers of House Grallner grow thin as does its food supply. The smallfolk find themselves restless, the Mountain Clans grow bolder, and the shadows of the Mountains of the Moon loom large. Prayers do not fall upon deaf ears, they find succor upon the mind of Ser Landon Grallner. With sword in hand and Faith as his shield, he rouses himself to the challenge.---House Grallner Quest uses the SIFRP rules as dictated by the A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying, A Game of Thrones Edition. In addition to a handful of homebrew rules common to these quests. A .pdf dump is below for those interested in the complete ruleset.---Masterlist:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VAr-LdCXTR_QUPJwKv82VJFRNLjo9B8dcEYFHJkbsfk/edit?usp=sharingSIFRP Resources:https://www.mediafire.com/folder/6sar1o14399xv/SIFRPHouse Grallner Archive:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=House%20Grallner"Justice Soars."
[15, Month I - 288AC]“Smith guide my hand,” your voice comes in short whispered bursts, the phrase repeating over and over as you set hand to task, each word accompanying a blow from the small hammer in your hand to the backplate of your armor. The past week you had spent meticulously repairing every minor and major blemish, dent, or scratch you could find from the previous weeks. At first there had been a worry that your hand had forgotten, so long it had been since it had needed to repair your armour in earnest, perhaps two years ago if your memory served you right, after the Tourney in Grimarbour. You paused, rubbing your thumb over the metal and sniffling, the few candles you had left to light were burning low inside your makeshift chapel. The morning had a crisp winter air to it that permeated the stone building and left goose pimples upon your bare arms and chest. Otherwise the morning was quiet and peaceful, something you had in short supply as of late, the silence brings you solace in these troubled times.Parwyn Waynwood whistles a song outside the doors, where he was to wait every morning until you were done. Continuing to examine the last of the dents you had smoothed out, you almost crack a smile, the work was finally almost done, gathering your polish and rags you set to task of bringing the final piece of your full plate back to the immaculate standards you held for yourself. You could hear the excitement upon the boy’s tune as your voice continued to whisper its short prayer, you had promised to begin training in arms with the lad today. He had told you the night prior after morning prayer when inquired that he had some training with Ironoaks Master-at-Arms, Ser Marc Terrick, a name you recognized surprisingly, he had gotten relatively far in the Melee two years past and was amongst the final ten along with yourself. Your own sword had put the man down, after weathering his relentless barrage of mace strikes, you had to purchase a new shield afterwards, so at the very least you knew the boy had at least something of an idea of arms.
>>1803801All my love Father
A wisp of smoke comes your way from the hollows of the chapel, a brisk wind having gone through the loose stones and assaulting to your face ruffling your beard and hair a touch. You pause and scratch at the former, perhaps you could do for a shave soon, mayhaps when you visit Strong Song. Your thoughts turned to the Belmores, and a slight frown clouds your otherwise happy demeanor, you had received a response from Lord Benedar Belmore, that Maffew Shett had thankfully read, and requested your visit fall upon the twenty-fifth and last until the twenty-eighth. When questioned why the length, Maffew merely shrugged his shoulders, assuming Lord Benedar must have had more to speak to you of than just your recent troubles or perhaps he was planning something. The grumbles after had fallen upon deaf ears and you had pressed him to continue hoping from news from the Eyrie, though the response from Nestor Royce regarding your petition of the Dawntower had not yet come. Maffew and Ser Trevor Trant had both assured you it would come today, so you hoped at least. The rest of the past week had been a solemn event, your remaining men had taken to the task of cleaning up the bodies, destruction, and vandalism the turn-cloaks had caused during the attack. A few of the leftover scouts, now ‘Bowmen had been tasked with scouring the Whitestone attempting to find this supposed hidden escape route, to little avail as far as you had been made aware, a thought that annoyed you. Asher Har- Ser Asher Harp, rather, had suggested you needed a more dedicated and trained group of men to do the task, those leftovers simply didn’t have the manpower nor knowledge of the Whitestone as the veterans had to complete the task. You sigh, looking upon the polish of your backplate before looking up to your shrine, charcoal paintings of the Seven aspects, the Father, Mother, Crone, Warrior, and Smith all had a candle place beneath them, you had suspected today you would need more guidance in the deliverance of your House from disaster than you had needed in the previous weeks combined. The boy’s tune stops and you can tell he is growing impatient, a quick glance to the ceiling tells you that it was mid-morning by now, or a fair guess of it from the way the sun shined through the cracked roof. Licking your thumb and forefinger you carefully put the candles out, offering a final prayer to each. The lingering odorless smoke clouds the small room as you sit in peaceful prayer and thought a moment longer.
Your body ached the strains of active combat for the better part of half a month, your mind felt as if it had been a mill without wind its sails for far too long creaking back to life, but through it all you had begun to feel like yourself again. A rare thing since the Rebellion in truth. Even the blue of your eyes felt more crisp and clear like the winter sky than they had in years as they stared back at you in the reflection of your mother’s mirror. Perhaps you had begun to come to the summit of the mountain that your mind had felt trapped upon for all of these years, the promise of light and the end of your challenges in drawing distance. Parts of you that had been forgotten had begun to reawaken, while others that had begun to creep in were pushed down once more. >Ability ReallocationDue to Character Generation being a confusing affair done late at night I am going to allow us to go back and redo a small portion of it. I will allow you to drop one of three skills to 1, either Deception, Stealth, or Thievery, in exchange for 50 EXP. Please note however that this means Landon is almost entirely incapable of performing said action, whether it is a mental block such as being too Honor-Bound to lie or steal or an inability to be quiet and precise in order to be stealthy or thieve. This will be Landon’s burden but perhaps a self imposed one, in no way will this affect your other stats or abilities, just the designated ability if chosen. Regardless, this EXP will be spent as you typically spend it during Character Generation but only upon certain skills as detailed below:>Skills you MAY spend EXP on:AthleticsAgilityAnimal HandlingAwarenessEnduranceFightingKnowledgeMarksmanshipSurvivalWarfareWill>Skills you MAY NOT spend EXP on:CunningDeceptionHealingLanguagePersuasionStatusStealthThieveryThe picture attached explains how we spend this EXP at Character Generation but here is an additional breakdown for how you may spend the 50 EXP you gain. You may:>Spend 10 EXP to raise an Ability at 2 to 3>Spend 40 EXP to raise an Ability at 2 to 4>Spend 30 EXP to raise an Ability at 3< to the next appropriate levelSo votes:Drop an ability to 1 for an additional 50 EXP?>Yay>NayIf Yay, which Ability?>Deception>Stealth>ThieveryIf yay, please offer suggestions on how you would like to spend this additional EXP. Do remember that you are only allowed to spend this on Abilities, not specialities, and only those detailed above. Any questions regarding this process feel free to ask, the system can be confusing.
>>1803801Can't participiate since I live in the UK and like to get up at 5am,but I really like reading through this when a session is over. excellent quest
>>1803814>Yay>ThieveryEndurance and Athletics.
>>1803814>>Yay>Thievery And let's boost endurance
>>1803814>Yay>ThieveryIncreaseEndurance, Awareness, Animal Handling
Oh and because I'm an idiot and forgot to include it, Landon's character sheet:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nns7W-QIAngHsIM6j8XZR8_mCwRMnO8GArf6lSZw2aE/edit?usp=sharing
>>1803836Wait how much does it cost to raise something from 4 to 5? Endurance is at 5 and I'm not sure how much total exp we have
>>1803814I say Yay, and lower Thievery. Deception and Stealth can have a place in a noble knight's life, when the truth must be protected, and the agents of evil be taken by surprise, but Thievery has no place. As to spending it, I'd say boosting Will and Awareness. Too much has slipped beneath our notice so far. Clearly, we must open our eyes. And given how much of what we do we do for duty, a strong Will is needed to remain pure. We can save the last 10 for later.
>>1803840Endurance is at 4, Fighting is at 5.
>>1803844typo, I meant to say endurance is at 4, hence the question
>>1803814>yay>thieveryRaise awareness to 4 and survival to 3
>>180384030, leaving you with 20 left over. It is essentially Landon spending the 70 on it from the Character Generation>>1803842>We can save the last 10 for later. You cannot, it all must be spent now.
>>1803828Sounds good enough to me
>>1803814>Yay>ThieveryFighting and endurance
>>1803851okay in light of that I'll add >Raise Awareness >Raise animal handling to>>1803831because we'll have that leftover twenty
>>1803857Why ain't yeah picking a single fighty skill. You a fag?
>>1803860those two are useful to have anon, and we'll have our regular level up soon for fighty stuff.
>>1803851Yeah, that's fair, now that I think about it. Then >WIll>Awareness>Animal Handling.
>>1803860Animal Handling is used in plenty of combat situations, from Trample moves to simply staying ahorse during combat, which gives us increased movement to offset our heavy armor. Awareness determines Combat initiative, as well as raising our Intrigue defense in a way that's more consistent with our character than raising our Cunning or Status (neither of which we can raise anyway)
Alright, so it looks like Endurance for 30 is pretty much a lock. Also looks like Awareness for 10 is a lock or at least the runner up.So we have 10 left and that one is kind of split. Quick vote, spend final 10 EXP on?>Animal Handling>Survival
>>1803873Yeah but if we grab them now we can become even stronker when we level up for real
>>1803882>SurvivalWe need at least some true grit in us
>>1803814>yay>Thievery raise enduranceI think we shousd take our squire out for some training Maybe one of the twins can come with us
>>1803882Survival, so we can hunt real good
>>1803882>>Animal HandlingFor Benny
Alrighty then, Animal Handling it is.So in summary:>Endurance from 4 to 5>Animal Handling from 2 to 3>Awareness from 2 to 3>Thievery from 2 to 1>Combat Defense from 15 to 16>Intrique Defense from 7 to 8>Health from 12 to 15Damn Landon look at you, now we're talking like a walking tank. Just need to get you into some better armour now.So that went smoothly, probably helped we talked about it at the end of the last thread. I am going to run a quick errand to the store to get some food and then I'll be back with the next update which will be some training time with Parwyn, time to shape a young mind.
>>1803917I thought endurance was already 5?
>>1803917We seriously should look into getting a set of full heavy plate armor coated in silver and gold etchings. Dark Paladin of the Seven
>>1803922it was a 4, fighting was a 5
>>1803923We're not Dontos, pure silver for the seven that are one
>>1803933Can anybody else imagine Dontos crushing hard on Landon, but he's too dense to notice?
>>1803941Lyn is already doing that.
>>1803814>I will allow you to drop one of three skills to 1, either Deception, Stealth, or Thievery, in exchange for 50 EXP.>>1803432>>1803646Hey QM, I'm one of the anons who are currently figuring out the rulebook. An anon already answered my counter-Deception question. Mediafire had some difficulty loading for me for a while for whatever reason. To check, were we able to have more than one disability at character generation, or was it always limited to one?>Drop an ability to 1 for an additional 50 EXP?>>Yay>If Yay, which Ability?Thievery > Deception > Stealth.>You may:Still figuring out what skills would fit us.>>1803882>>1803917I'm not sure what this distribution looks like, but this seemed to have gone pretty well.
>>1803941>I meet a very nice knight today>We spent all day training and he was much better with a sword then me>after we were done we helped each other clean off our sweat covered bodies and talked of the seven>I like making friends
>>1803933A set of mirror polished silver armor etched with the seven pointed star. Mayhaps with a completely enclosed helm, preventing them from even glimpsing our face as we shield bash them into oblivion.
>>1803961See Grallners muscles rippled like waves beneath his sweat sewed skin as I cleaned him. I could feel the heat from his exercises through the damp coolness of the cloth...
>>1803961>>1803969I just stopped writing to look at the thread real quick and I am fucking dying of laughter.
>>1803983The Lewdness shall only increase
>>1803983Glad we could make your day better, I would have made more but this is a blue board. Blue like Ser Landon's sun kissed eyes
>>1804004And like Dontos's balls.
You felt as if the days of burden and trial had worn upon you the point of acceptance, you could on for longer, endure more. Your mind was no longer the slow cog that turned with rust, rather it had grown sharper more aware. Warrior felt more comfortable under you once more, the press of your heel and click of your tongue gathering the proper response without the needless further pushing. With a final deep breath you arise, feeling reinvigorated, ready for the day’s trials that were surely to come. You pull on your gambeson, lace up your boots and place your armour carefully back upon its stand, today was the only day of the week you did not wear your armour, a single day every Seven where you allowed yourself the respite of the burden. The gambeson had been a gift, unsurprisingly from Ser Cador Belmore during his previous visit, you hadn’t noticed it until after he left. A short note, that Maffew had read, said that he didn’t expect you to wear doublets and finery much longer past the final day of his visit and that the navy blue gambeson with the little golden griffon stitched upon the breast would have to do. It had brought a smile to your face, a short one, but one all the same. Your old gambeson had been years old and stunk like a wet dog caked in auroch feces, the color had been roughly the same as well, you were thankful to have gotten rid of it. Strapping your sword belt on you exit the chapel to be greeted by the mountain air and an incredibly excited young boy looking up to you.“Follow squire,” you state simply, boots trudging through the snow with satisfying crunch every step of the way. The boy bounds after you in your footsteps, attempting to keep his composure. You remember that excitement, when you had first learned that you would be squiring for Lord Emmerst Earp, your father had told you upon your eleventh nameday. The man had been a Knight once you were told, before spoil and gluttony had all but taken his ability to walk away from him. He only trained with you periodically occasionally deciding to step into the ring with his squire only to be pushed back by your relentless assaults from everything you had learned from the old Master-at-Arms, Ser Vardin, he had been amongst those that had left with your uncle to Wall. Soon Lord Emmerst stopped even bothering and you found yourself with a hunger to prove yourself to the man. Perhaps you once thought it was because you were not good enough, unworthy of his teachings. But now… You knew it was because he had been a coward, hiding behind his trained dogs.
Banishing the thought with an audible grunt, having climbed over the rope fence that separated the training yard from the main garden and courtyard. The area had been cleared of snow by your request, a few of the ‘Bowmen practiced in the corner with their newly made Knight of a Captain, Ser Asher Harp. He was drilling the newer recruits and getting everyone up to speed. Unsurprisingly the man had taken little care for his new title beyond lauding it at dinner the past few nights. But you could see a slight change in the man, he held himself higher and had taken to his duties as Captain with even more fervor and commitment than before. Perhaps it was the common-born bond you had shared but you felt a kinship with the man unlike the one you shared with the true Noble Knights. You looks your way quick and tips his cap before turning back to his men. Ser Michel is about with Ser Bryen Belmore practicing as well, the latter is absolutely demolishing the former in arms, his form more practiced and precise than the Sisterman. Ser Bryen had by your own request begun to train with your least practiced Knight, Michel had reacted with annoyance at first but had at the very least taken to the training for your sake. In general training and drilling had doubled by your request since the turncloaks attack and Lady Wylla’s secreting away, you refused to allow such undisciplined thoughts to creep back into your men’s minds and hearts. If only you could impose mandatory mass after dinner, but lacking a Septon to give it you only could lead the few of your men in prayer that decided to take it with you at the end of the day. Parwyn beats you to the rack holding the various practice weapons, wooden swords, blunted steel, things to learn the finer points of parry and riposte or to get use to the weight and bulk of a shield in one hand and control of the sword in the other. The majority of the weapons were swords of various lengths, a few spears and a mace along with a smattering of shields only one of which was a piece similar to your tower shield though the shape was different. Picking out a sword similar to your own you heft the shield into place and look at Parwyn who is yet undecided. “What do you wish to learn Parwyn?” you ask.“The sword,” he says without a look, “My aunti- Lady Waynwood, had told me there were few Knights so skilled with a sword as you when she told me I was to squire here or that she would request I be. Ser Marc could use a mace real good but his sword skills were lacking, I was getting bored with his lessons.”“The mace is the weapon of an unpracticed man,” you state simply, picking up a sword and allowing Parwyn to feel its balance only for it to fall to the ground in his hands. He smiles weakly and you help place it back to find another. "I would also like to learn how to joust," he says with a smile, "I can ride at the rings well enough."
You were not the best jouster, it simply hadn't been a part of your training in your youth. There was a manageable aspect of it if pressed you could make a show it, but it simply wasn't your forte. Ser Trevor Trant was the best jouster in the Household, and surely Ser Bryen Belmore was acceptable with the form as well you think. Perhaps you could not teach him properly but one of them could while you taught him to ride or learn alongside him. What would you like Parwyn Waynwood to learn? Ser Landon Grallner’s TrainingDC: 15Roll: 21Success, Two Degrees. “Ser Trevor Trant may be better suited to teach you the joust,” you tell him picking up a sword more suited for his size and handing it to him to balance against, you can see him struggle to hold it up properly but remember that is how you started as well. Deciding to teach him what you knew best you gather up the largest shield he could possibly handle on his own and show Parwyn the proper way to strap it against his forearm, so as to not become a tangle mess or loss control of it. You can see him go red in the face the first time he hefts it into place and then looks up to you with an unsure smile“I will help teach you to ride,” you state simply, “Ser Trevor will take up the task of teaching you to joust properly. I will inform him after at our meeting, you will begin this afternoon before dinner.”“Yes Ser,” he responds and you nod waving him to follow after. The next few hours are spent with getting Parwyn familiar with the new weight upon his arm and maintaining his form even when he felt unbalanced by it. You admit it is rather difficult to teach the young stringy lad to use such a heavy shield from the get go, any time you attempt to spare with him his guard drops almost immediately and you give him a quick whack to get him back in line. His sword arm is somewhat more practiced, you assume his elder brother had been teaching him on the side, he knows how to handle the long sword at least. Doesn’t help him much against your own skill but he is making the attempt at least. By the end of it you have worked up a sweat but Parwyn is a mess of bumps, bruises, sweat and a little blood where he accidentally hit himself in the nose with the shield. You give him leave to get himself cleaned up and to join you for luncheon when he is able. Telling the boy good first lesson you send him on his way, watching him limp off with about half the energy as before but his face brightens when you tell him training will resume tomorrow. >Landon EXP Gained - 2, total 17.
While you walk into the Whitestone you clean yourself off with a towel, handing it off to a servant as she passes with a look that lingers far longer than it should, something you quickly end with a stern gaze. Two of your newer guards, Will and Don wait at the entrance to the great hall and snap off sloppy salutes to you as you pass by them, opening the door on your own, you’d need to work at that. Inside Ser Trevor Trant and Maffew Shett are waiting for you in utter silence, sitting at opposite ends of the table and hardly regarding each other with more than a passing look. This is the first time you had managed to get the two in the same room since the betrayal. The other was bitter and angry but no more with themselves than the other or so they had told you. Hard looks and stern words managed to quell their pettiness, but you doubted it would last until they were made to work together again in earnest. They were still your two best advisors, even if the trust between the three of you had been shattered and needed to be rebuilt from scratch. They both stand as you take your seat, offering a salute and a bow. Maffew evens out his pile of papers as you bid them both sit and you settle in. “It was a good day Landon,” Maffew begins, “Recieved the first shipment of the processed silver from the Smelter, with word from your brothers. Nestor Royce has sent his response regarding your petition of the Dawntower. And I’ve a few items of note and trade from Gulltown and further down the Greatgorge. Oh and another invitation to a melee come next month, hosted by House Blyth of Krayenport.”Trevor sniffs and produces two letters, “Had a surprising letter come in today, report from the field, from the goat herder village, apparently a few of our scouts yet lived and have been banded together by one of the few remaining men loyal to you. And…” he snaps his fingers and two men in wildly different garb enter the great hall and kneel before the table, “When you sent out a call for a Captain for the Whitestone Keep Guard we received word from several men, after weeding through the riff-raff I came down to these two. Ser Steffon Stonesifer and Ser Russell of the Roseroad. Sers, introductions?”“Ser Trant, Ser Grallner,” the respond in kind nodding towards the two of you. The man in lighter garb, brigandine more than likely, who holds a spear and a buckler starts first, “Ser Russell of the Roseroad, milord. Knighted by Ser Cassian, a Hedge Knight and old friend during the Rebellion, was a commander of spearmen under Lord Caswell’s service for seven years. Know how to fight in tight corners, how to use a crossbow, and all. Guarding been my job most me life, when I heard your summons I was upon a ship to White Harbor, stopped over in Gulltown to resupply, thought to meself never been to the Mountains, could use a change of scenery, and so I am here, ready to offer me services and experience.”
“Ser Russell is from the Reach,” Trevor offers, which you are thankful for, not knowing where House Caswell was located, “Disciplined and good men. They know how to use their numbers properly.”The second begins after, “Ser Steffon Stonesifer if it pleases you Ser,” he says his voice slightly more remained, he’s carrying a greatsword and wears half plate, his surcoat just grey, “Knighted by father, Ser Morton Stone.”You give Trevor a glance and he holds up a hand and tells Ser Steffon to continue.“I am his legitimate son,” he states firmly, “He married my mother with my grandfather’s blessing. I took this name to honor him and our family when I was made a Knight. I came to your House from the northeast, my grandfather’s lands have been all but devastated by the Moon Swallows. My father, my mother, my grandfather and two of my half brothers were all killed by attacks. House Hersy, my sole surviving half-brother’s liege, sits upon their hands, too scared to commit to battle with clansmen and placing the blame upon your own House as they come from your lands. My half-brother is too young to rule the House, Lord Hersy’s steward now does it, and he dismissed me from my post as Captain of the Guard because I wished to commit our forces to fending off future attacks of the smallfolk, not the tower which lay in half ruin already.I do not see things their way, I see it as another Lord too lazy to commit to his people and bannermen, only looking to protect his coin. I came in hopes of offering my services to you, so that they may serve in cleansing the lands of this menace once and for all.”Ser Trevor grunts and nods to both before turning to you.Who would you like as the Captain of the Whitestone Keep Guard?>Ser Russell of the Roseroad>Ser Steffon StonesiferWhat would you like to talk about next?>The Melee Invitation>The Mysterious Report from the Goat Village>Silver, Matters of Trade, and word from your Brothers>Nestor Royce's response

“Ser Steffon Stonesifer, I would like to extend the offer as Captain of the Whitestone Keep Guard to you, I am sure you spoke of incomes, duties, and expectations with Ser Trevor Trant prior to this meeting?”“Of course Ser, and I would be glad to accept, thank you, I knew you were not like the Lord Hersy.”Turning to Ser Russell you say, “Ser I welcome you to my House but simply have not place for you, you are welcome to my home and yard to train until such time as you are required to leave.”“It is welcomed milord,” he says, “If it pleases you, I’d like to travel to Strong Song, as I understand you will be doing within a week’s time. Perhaps I may offer my services to Lord Belmore.”“Of course Ser Russell,” you respond and dismiss the both of them. Another Knight you privately think, you now have five about your Household, two of which were common-born, two Noble, and one half and half if you had to take a guess. But all the same it was a growth, perhaps someday you would have enough Knights to field a proper company of cavalry, if only you were so lucky. Turning from joyful thought you return to your two advisor, both who yet again sit in silence, “What is this Melee, I have never heard of House Blyth.”Maffew clears his throat and looks to you, “House Blyth of Krayenport is a minor House sworn to House Lynderly, they are among the Finger Lords. Krayenport is not particularly well known, but some trade flows through there. No doubt the Lord’s son has been invited to join the Waynwood’s Tourney, as I understand he remains unmarried. It appears to just be the Melee, likely it is Ser Blyth’s preferred event, a purse of two hundred dragons.”“A pittance,” Trevor mutters and Maffew leers at him. “Ser Landon has expressed interest in competing Ser Travor,” Maffew says pointedly, “I am merely offer a suggestions and gauging interest in future events, as well as allowing him the chance to knock off the dust as it were.”“Think we’ve had enough of that in the past few weeks,” Trevor says frowning before turning to you, “If you accept you’d likely be the most high profile person there. No doubt Lord Blyth thought to invite you hoping his son would be able to gain some traction in a victory over a renowned fighter. I am not saying to not go, I simply wouldn’t waste my time with such games.”“I will give it a thought,” you respond simply putting neither side at ease, “Ser Trevor, a letter from the goat herders from my men?”“I was just as surprised,” he says unfolding the letter, “It was addressed to you, the writing is chicken scratch, no doubt the one person that can write in the village was asked to write it. A young lad from the village on an old palfrey came in this morning to deliver it.”You wave him on to read it.
Trevor clears his throat, “M’lord. Men number in twenties, recruited locals, company stretched thin. Suspected betrayal. No sign of village elders. Following Marston’s last known order. Secure village, check. Scout region, check. Report to Whitestone, check. Encampment of Swallows nor-east. Estimate ten score fighting men. Requesting aid. Requesting further orders. --Carver Rivers”“Rivers? Why is there a bastard leading the remainder of my scouts?”Trevor sighs heavily, “I picked him up during the Rebellion, happened upon him for scouting for House Cox, he’s been loyally working for you for the past five years without issue Ser, and is clearly amongst those still loyal to you, something I will remind is in short supply. Always in the field, hardly ever passed the threshold of the main gate. He was one of Marston’s best scouts, to hear that he is alive is a blessing Ser, respectfully.”“Our opinions differ greatly in this regard,” you state sternly, “We will discuss that further, later. This report?”“A map and some basic landmarks,” Trevor says, “We have the men to suss out two hundred if we pull your brother’s from the mines, I would worry to only take archers and cavalry into the mountains. I am unsure of whether or not the village is safe either, with only some twenty odd men there, reinforcements would be a wise idea so that we may confirm the encampment as well.”“We’d be spread too thin,” Maffew says perhaps more brazenly than he should have in regards to matters of war. He leans over and looks at the map, “That encampment is close to the Lynderly border, perhaps far too close, they might get the wrong impression Landon. Perhaps if we contacted the Lynderlys they would be keen to lend aid or at the very least be less suspect of us lead an army to their border.”“Keep to your own duties Shett,” Trevor says shortly, “We can deal with this on our own.”Join the Melee in Krayenport (4, Month II - 288AC)?>Yay>NayWhat to do about the remnant scouts and their report?>Send reinforcements(Specify unit) and giving command over to their leader and confirm report before taking action >Send out a full force to eradicate the Moon Swallows immediatelyHouse Lynderly? >Send a letter to ask their aid in defeating the Moon Swallows upon your borders>Send a letter to inform them that you’ll be dealing with the clansmen upon your borders as a courtesy requesting no aid

“Get a quill Maffew.”Your steward produces one, a vial of ink and a small pile of papers from his bag in short order, the man was nothing if not organized. He nods to you and you begin.“Tell House Blyth I would be glad to join their melee. The coin would be worthwhile and I could use the practice at blunted combat. It has been two years now.”Maffew grimaces at the thought scratching out the letter quickly and what you can only assume is concisely, “You’ll need to bring your own pavilion, House Blyth are the owners of only a small hall, hopefully the weather is forgiving. Or you could find lodging in the town, if you wish to deal with the ruffians and sailors there.”You don’t give it much of a thought and Maffew continues to the next piece of paper. You think a moment and realize you don’t particularly have any words for this, you say with an unsure voice, “Tell Lord Lynderly we intend to send a force to deal with these clansmen upon our borders, a courtesy so he understands we are not marching to war upon his lands. We require no aid.”Trevor straightens when you say that, and clears his throat, “Agreed. We know our enemy the best, no need to involve the Lynderlys. I approve.”“I worry…” Maffew says under his voice finishing up the letter, “They may still not agree with the idea so close to their borders Landon, a fair warning.”“Now we just need to know who we’re going to send,” Trevor says nearly immediately after giving you little time to think on it, “I say we pull the First from the Mines, take the ‘Bowmen and the Cavalry. Split the Garrison between the mines and the Keep.”“Oh and leave our two most valuable resources protected by green men and boys for the better part of four days?” Maffew says, “I for one disagree. We need to maintain our defenses Landon, do you really think the Household would be keen upon the idea of you taking most of the men to war after what just happened? At least leave the Cavalry, and Ser Trevor Trant here.”Trevor gives him an indignant look, “Those are my men Maffew, I will be out there.”“They are Landon’s men Ser Trevor,” Maffew responds, “Don’t forget who commanded them while you were locked in a tower.”Trevor’s face twists up and you pound your fist upon the table, “Enough the both of you.”They both go silent and look away, neither wishing to make eye contact.>Please roll 4d6 for Maffew’s Persuasion(Convince).Who would you like to take with you to the encampment?Your current men:>Trained Archers, Ser Asher Harp - At Whitestone Keep>Trained Infantry, Liam & Lincoln Grallner - At the Silver Mines>Trained Cavalry, Ser Trevor Trant - At Whitestone Keep>Green Garrison, Ser Steffon Stonesifer - At Whitestone KeepAll of them are at full strength, giving you a total of 320 men. “We will bring the ‘Bowmen, the First, and the cavalry. The area they are camping are in the foothills of the Mountains of the Dawn, where the Snakewood meets them,” you say looking over the map, “The Cavalry will be able to attack at their full strength for once, a single charge and pass will be enough to scatter the heathens, I’ll need my full strength and Knight-Commander for this assault. The Whitestone and the mine will be protected by the garrison, Ser Stonesifer will deal with the Silver Mine, Maffew I expect you to keep things under control here, understood?”“This only brings me further worry. But… Of course, Ser,” he says nodding with a grimace, Trevor nods along to your words as well. “Next then, Nestor Royce’s response?” you ask Maffew.A smile spreads on his face, “Oh yes! I believe you are going to be quite happy with this one Landon. Nestor Royce writes that the papers, contracts, and petition are all acceptable and take precedence over the only other claim that had been made upon the land. One from a hundred years ago by a Knight claiming to be from the House Tollett’s banner that once lived there. It was easily dismissed. As such we have received the land grant and the Dawntower Ruins now belong to House Grallner. Your lands extend just that much further to the northwest Landon.”“Any response from House Badics?”“As of right now, no,” Maffew says, “Likely the mercenary Lord will get a bit uppity once we move to retake the Tower. Little he can do about it now. I’m more concerned about Lady Alyssa Tollett getting it in her head that the land still belonged to her House. I don’t particularly having a suggestion on how to deal with this, perhaps they will simply leave it be.” You grunt and turn to Trant, “Can we assault the Dawntower?”“The Tower is a week’s journey,” Trevor says leaning forward and pointing on Marston’s old map, “The men will need some time to recover after we deal with the encampment. By the time we return home, the twentieth, we will need to make ready to sail to Strong Song. Simply haven’t the time to do both before you leave Ser. Not to mention we have little to no information about what forces to expect, the state of the terrain, traps, forward scouts. At the very least we need to put some effort into finding out more before we plan an attack on a defensible location in the mountains. Even if they’re clansmen it is likely that they have something in the way of defense and likely know we’re coming. Perhaps we could extract Carver and put those remaining scouts to good use in the Mountains.”Maffew remains quiet this time and you’re left with the thought, “I dislike placing such faith in the man.”
Trevor gives you a frustrated look, “Then place him under the control of Asher Harp, you clearly trust him. The ‘Bowmen can do the scouting with the additional help of Carver’s men and the other remnants. They are not suited for it to be certain, but what other option do we have, simply haven’t the time to raise more scouts. While you’re away they can scout and find out what’s going out there.”“Ser Asher Harp,” you state simply.Trevor pauses, “Yes, Ser Asher Harp.”“Alternatively,” Maffew cuts in, “We could wait until you are home from Strong Song, with your new line of credit from Lord Benedar. You could use some of these funds to raise a proper company of scouts, so we do not need to risk Ser Asher and half trained men in the Mountains supposedly riddled with traps.”“And waste more time while the Moon Swallows prey upon our lands?” Trant says, “We need to do this immediately.” Scouting the Dawntower? “Trant,” you say with an inhale, “I am trusting you here. Do not break this. We will collect Rivers and he will aid Ser Asher in scouting the region while I am away in Strong Song. If anything, ANYTHING happens, it will fall upon you. Is this understood?”“Completely Landon,” Trevor says with a nod, “I swear it, Carver Rivers is a loyal man and he will serve you with honor.”“That remains to be seen,” you say before turning to Maffew, “You said my brother’s sent word?” “Ah, yes. A brief letter penned by the Foreman along with the processed silver from the smelter. Lincoln’s wound has begun to fester on his leg, he has had trouble walking and has developed a fever. Liam has asked he be allowed to return to Whitestone Keep so he may be treated properly.”Your brow furrows and you nod, “Have him brought home. I… We don’t have anyone particularly capable here though.”“Well if it worsens you could always takes him to Strong Song and have him treated by their Maester,” Maffew offers, “We could really use something of a healer here in Whitestone Keep Landon, even if it isn’t a Maester but field support.”“Maffew is right, as much as it pains me to say it,” Trevor grumbles, “Our men, your brother, will be risking their lives too much in the next month to not have a healer on hand. Perhaps Lord Belmore would be able to lend support as our funds simply don’t allow for such otherwise at the moment.”“I’ll keep the thought,” you say, “Maffew, trade?” you ask with an unsteady voice. Every time you got into this conversation with Maffew it always ended up in you being entirely confused and more annoyed than you cared to admit. Maffew takes a large breath and begins, “Well there are several matters to deal with Landon. For one we received a letter from Lord Bordain, it is… Pointed to say the least.”“Read it then,” you say, not particularly understanding Maffew’s tone.
Maffew clears his throat and begins, “Ser Landon,As a former man of small-birth myself, I can understand a difficulty in fully appreciating and grasping the numbers that weigh on a new house-holder's mind. Especially a mind such as yours, which my wife tells me was not properly educated and squired, but rather ignored, that you could be used as a hound for a brute. So allow me to speak plainly: four hundred dragons is NOT an exorbitant sum for a hundred good blades. A well-made long blade from an honest smith will cost you two to three dragons. I sell you my blades for four, out of good, castle-forged steel. As you can see, I am ALREADY selling these blades to you at what amounts to a bloody act of charity. While your offer of silver shows some understanding of the ways of lords, I must remind you I am already receiving fine metals and gems through trade with your liege, House Belmore. Why would I deal with the sheep when I already pay the farmer?I understand you are a devout man, and so I hope the Seven grant you better opportunities for trade. Should you find some better reason I should hear your plea, inform me, and I may reconsider.--Lord William Bordain”Trevor clears his throat and sits back, “Well then, that went far more poorly than I had expected. What in the Seven Hells did you write him Maffew?”“Standard fare. I… I did not think I was insulting the Lord Bordain with the offer.”You sit in silence, a part of you boiled at being called a dog by a child murderer. You take a deep breath and say, “Let us move on, anything else Maffew?”“I have also been in contact with my nephew in Gulltown, he is dealing with a Lyseni family, the Orlisis. I have heard of them before, their line of inheritance goes as far as the eighties. I believe the woman we are dealing with is somewhere in the thirties, she, her father and mother, have recently set up shop in Gulltown in their family’s name. They are in the perfume business.”“And what good does that do me? We have no purpose for luxury goods in the Whitestone when my people barely eat.”“I am aware Ser,” Maffew says, “But my nephew wishes to deal with them. The use silver for decoration and the such. He is asking for one unit of raw silver in exchange for food stuffs, enough to give us a surplus. Enough for your almsgiving as you had suggested before when we were in more precarious situation. With the smelter we can afford to trade the rest of the silver now. I would honestly suggest we take the offer, disregard Lord Bordain as a dead end and attempt to find our steel elsewhere.”
Trevor snorts, “Lord Bordain is the steel trade here. Finding another person to deal with would require us to go to Gulltown or Runestone. Which we have little time to do, and their prices are just as likely to be the same. Offer Lord Bordain something else or just pay the full price and be done with it or ask Lord Belmore to deal with the man in your stead, seeing as Maffew has done nothing but enrage him.”“The man is a child murderer with a wife from a House that holds a grudge against our former Lord,” Maffew says in his own defense, “He has no more tact than can be expected of him. We’re dealing with a man that tames clansmen, I very much doubt he is worth the effort if he cannot see the value of the silver. The man only knows hatred and iron. I wish I hadn’t ever had to write to him in the first place.”“Enough Maffew,” you say with annoyance, “Just give me the basics of it and I’ll make a decision.”You lean back listening to Maffew continue to speak and simply wish you had the coin and land to deal in your own food stuffs. The whole of this was a mess and involved too much politics and backroom dealings for your taste. Even the most straightforward trade offer always felt like it was somehow a stab in the back waiting to happen. Maffew would still argue with you upon occasion about the tithe you gave to the Faith, something you wished you could do more of… Wait. Maffew did say you had access to more silver now, surely you could afford to give more to Faith now? It was not the ideal amount but your processed silver was surely worth more and would keep your House further afloat in their surplus than raw silver. Alright, so my significant other just got home and is requesting I spend some time with her due to a bad day at work. Which I am obliged to do.So, the plan is to cut today's thread here and likely resume tomorrow at a later point like I did on Monday. I will give you guys a time and head's up for when that is. That will be so I can get through the rest of my notes, which is the battle at the Moon Swallows encampment. Sorry if things felt a little dry today. We had some book keeping to go ahead and do so that we could get back to the other stuff.
>>1804992Hey go take care of your guy/girl/other.We will just be in here, bitchin about Bordain being a cunt.what we should do is murder a path through the mountains and use engineers to pave a fucking road/tunnel landing knights and building towers as we go. then when we and our allies controla vital trade route some other /tg? quest can start bitching about having to deal with Landon. What do you mean he wont let anyone use it unless they tithe generously to the church, fucking asshole!

>>1804963This quest takes place post Song of Iron and Hate. The /tg/ Valemen timeline goes (starting date)284, just after Robert's Rebellion - House Harrock Quest. 286, 2 years later: Bordain.288, 2 years later: Grallner. So we're currently something like 6-10 months after the events of Iron and Hate, depending on how many months that quest took.I'm so happy you all liked my letter.
>>1804965Are there official Dragon stats? That would be something cool to run. I found some homebrew ones, and I'd actually bet on the dragon using those. (5 Awareness, 7 fighting, 6 Damage claws, and an armor-ignoring Flame breath. Hell, the breath alone would auto-gibe Bordain.)As I recall from Iron and Hate, the numbers are currently that William can still lose several fights against the bigger names in GoT combat: The Mountain has a chance to beat him, as does Jaime Lannister, but I'd have to check.

Hey guys, sorry I'm not going to be able to run tonight like I planned. Got home late and have a terrible migraine. Hopefully, tomorrow, if not then Sunday. That's the hope, dream, plan as of right now. Again, apologies.

[17, Month I - 288AC, mid-afternoon]“Landon, we need to talk.”“Not now Liam,” you respond briskly, as he follows after you through the war camp your men had set up close to the Lynderly border, “The War Council has gathered, I expect you to participate. Or at the very least make a show and not come off an idiot.”“Fucking Seven Hells Landon, just listen to me damn it,” Liam responds, causing you to stop and turn your head slightly.“You will not-” you begin before being interrupted.“This isn’t the Whitestone Landon, I can speak how I bloody well feel out here,” Liam snaps back, “You’ve been avoiding me, ever since we met up at the Silver Mine and you saw Lincoln. He could bloody lose his leg and you don’t even give it a thought! We’ve no Maester, no healer, not even a support corps! If you aren’t willing to think about your fucking flesh and blood at least think about your precious army. These men are dying and hurtin’ under your order, your merciless blood campaign against the clansmen, you cannot be so careless with their lives!”You stare at your younger brother a moment, eyes unflinching, “Good men follow orders. Obey their superiors. Those same men who surround themselves with the Faith have not fear of death nor injury. Those men survive conflict unscathed.”“And you’d damn the rest by being too stubborn to raise a support corps?”“No. I pray with them in their final moments, blessing their commitment, loyalty, and all they’ve given to this House and to their Faith. War is a not as it is in tales your wetnurse told you Liam, it is brutal and unfair and unfeeling. Casualties will happen but not to those that follow command and surround themselves with the Faith.”Liam turns his upper lip at you, and points his finger upwards towards your chin, his mouth wordlessly moving before he finally speaks, “You’re the brutal unfeeling monster here Landon. That is your flesh and blood.”“Then perhaps he should think of acting like it from time to time, rather than doing everything in his power to spite me,” you respond before turning and continuing towards the war tent, “We will not speak of this again Liam. If the wound continues to fester Lincoln will come with me to Strong Song and be tended to by the Maester there. Perhaps some prayer would bring him comfort in the meantime.”You enter the war tent, Liam following after and taking his place at the far side of the table as the Captain of the Grallner First Regiment. Ser Asher Harp, captain of the Whitestone Longbowmen, and Ser Trevor Trant the captain of the Grallner Heavy Cavalry are already there. The former going over the rough map of the area that the few remaining scouts of the ‘Bowmen had put together.“Any word from the Lynderlys or Maffew?”“None,” Trevor responds, “The scouts, led by-”
“Myself,” Asher interjects carefully, “With aid from those that we picked up at the goat herder village.”“Yes, well they have not seen outriders from the Lynderlys sending their own forces, nor have we received a response, perhaps they simply see it as our issue and are contented with the courtesy letter.”“I certainly hope as much,” you mumble before turning to Asher whose eyes still follow the map, “What do we have?”“Looks like we have the height advantage. And judging by the way the sky the setting sun at our back,” Asher says looking up at you and bouncing his finger on the mark where your camp was, “The Snakewood that leaks into our territory is down this way, looks like the Moon Swallows are camped out in a grove just downhill from us. The ‘Bowmen can take this ridge here,” he moves his finger across and get a commanding view of the area and keep out of the worst of it and picking off the runners.”“The cavalry can go down this little goat path this way,” Trevor picks up, “And we can flank them from the south, running them through while they’re distracted with the First making a head on charge from down the hill with archer support.”“Oh aye send my men into the meat grinder,” Liam grumbles which receives a sharp look from Ser Trevor. “They are your brother’s men, Liam,” he says pointedly, “Perhaps they’d do better under Jonothor’s command and with half a slap of discipline rather than your lackadaisy approach to command. Not to mention they are infantry, that is their duty.”“Well maybe next time you do a better job of keeping an eye on our steel and procuring better for my men and I wouldn’t be so damned worry about sending them and myself to their fucking deaths. Hm?”“Enough,” you say with a stern level voice eyeing the two of them. Liam throws his hands up in the air and leans back in his chair shaking his head. Trevor grumbles and throws your youngest brother a look before composing himself again.“The First will have the best advantage with the ‘Bowmen’s support, the sun setting at their back, and they’re better armored than the Moon Swallows,” Trevor says, “Form a shield wall at the foot of the hill, allow them to throw themselves upon it only to be taken by the flank. The rest is mop up after a few passes.”Asher and Trevor exchange a look of agreeance while Liam sits like a petulant child ignoring the three of you. The former two turn to you waiting for your order.Agree with the Battle Plan?>Yay>Nay (Suggest something else)Where will Ser Landon Grallner command from?>The ridge with the Whitestone Longbowmen>On the front lines with the Grallner First Regiment>With the flanking Grallner Heavy Cavalry

>>1820742>Yay >On the front lines with the Grallner First Regiment Welcome back, Father. Warrior. Whatever.
>>1820742>Yay>With the infantry>Take your brother aside AFTER this meeting and tell him the cold hard truth. While he and Lincoln were content to let us fade our house fell within inches of ruin. IF, IF we had the resources for a support corps we would get one. But we do not. We will attempt to get one when we can but we cannot do more. He can either help us build the house back up do we can do so, or he can continue to whine and complain and accomplish nothing.
>>1820739No one is going to like me for suggesting this but we could try the local woods witch we hear, maybe she can help with Lincoln lag.

“Hammer and anvil is always an effective strategy,” you agree giving a stiff nod towards the two Knights, “Trevor, Asher you will lead your companies as you see fit. I will take command of the First upon the frontlines.”Liam stands up suddenly, “Fine, bloody well fine,” he says before storming off hardly allowing the three of you a chance to respond.Trevor shakes his head and Asher sighs, speaking, “I assume Liam spoke to you of healers again?” when you don’t respond he continues, “Might have a point about a support corps, respectfully, Landon. The men might be running on fumes after this battle and only so much recruiting from the locals can be done before we tap the eager boy with his father’s old steel market.”“It still does not give him the right to speak to his elder brother with such disrespect. And if the twins would give even half a care about the affairs of the House, maybe they’d know we are strained to begin with,” Trevor mutters, “It is good that you’re taking command of the First though. They need proper discipline after the joke of command that your brothers have made.”“Enough,” you state and shake your head, “Our Faith will protect us. As it always has. Our priorities lie in cleansing our lands of these godless heathens by any means necessary.”“Of course Ser,” Trevor responds with a bow of his head, Asher following suit. “Good, you’ve your orders, rally the men, we break in ten, march in twenty, understood?”They both snap off nods and salutes and you make leave of the war tent to track down the First. Jonothor of Wetrock, the third-in-command of the company is standing at the forefront of their encampment with his arms cross and a disgruntled look upon his face, one lined with age. He salutes and offers a hand as you approach, he was one of the Earp veterans you remember, perhaps the oldest still left, you had placed him within the company hoping his leadership skills would rub off on your twin, clearly it hadn’t. The camp is a mess, disorganized and ill prepared for a raid or quick call to arms. “A word Jonothor?”“Ain’t many words to offer, Ser,” Jonothor says simply with a grunt, “Boys have grown lazy with Liam’s command, if you can call it that, respectfully.”You frown, and hear yet another complaint of the command your brothers had wrought upon their only duty within your household. Turning a blind eye to their trysts beyond the walls of the Whitestone Keep you had kept some vague hope that they had managed to at least hold together your primary front line men. You hear the giggle of women, and see a few of the younger lads chasing them about nearly exposed in the sight of Gods and men. You turn your head to side and Jonothor barks at them.“We make break, Ser?” he asks.
“Yes Jonothor. I will be here to oversee it,” you say eyeing your brother’s tent which sits idle, “I will be taking command of the First during the coming battle.”“Seven’s blessings, Ser, respectfully,” he says with a shake of his bald head, “Men are going to need a hard hand. Little wonder they cracked under Lincoln’s command at the silver mine, half of them hadn’t ever seen combat, the rest approach it the same way their captains do. That is with little care, if I hadn’t been clear, Ser.” You sigh, a frown deeply etched upon your face, going for the warhorn upon your hip you draw a long single call from it. The First stares at you as a wounded doe might, fear-stricken, as your call to arms goes on long and proud with unfaltering sound. They begin to scramble together in response a moment longer than you would like. Liam emerges from his tent, fully garbed, his surcoat the dueling griffons the twins so liked to use to mock your pride in the family arms, and begins shouting orders, slamming his half helm upon his head and coming towards you with defiance in his eyes. He slaps the horn away from your lips, the last note cut short and he merely stares at you before walking off without a word. The rest of the men have begun to break camp as he stalks off, and you regard his trailing form with disdain. Why need they be so difficult, you wonder, so willing to be defiant and throw honor and Faith in your face, spitting upon your discipline. A part of you thought them bastards but would not dishonor your mother with allegations of unfaithfulness.“He’ll be there,” Jonothor says with a sniff, “If nothing else the twins like a good fight at least. Want or not he’ll be a bloody child about it for the next week though.”“So long as he fights, at least he can do that much of his duty,” you say with a mutter before turning back to the First as they disassemble camp.---“May the Warrior grant us strength. The Mother shield us with her grace and protection. The Father give our cause towards righteous justice his blessing…” you repeat upon whispered lip behind your sallet as you carefully pick your way down the hill. The forest floor was lightly snowed upon, mostly covered with the long thin brown pine needles of the mighty evergreens that dominated the Snakewood. Their roots were gnarled and jutted out upon the hillside, by your orders the men were to watch their steps after one of the younger men took a spill of overeagerness and twisted his ankle. Adjusting your tower shield as you turn you watch the First following after in carefully formation, not too spread out, just close enough to quickly come together under your command. Jonothor is to your right, nodding quickly to affirm all was as planned.
Turning again you begin to make out the fringes of the grove and the makeshift camp of the Moon Swallows just beyond. The thrum of a bow reaches your ears before the arrow does, your reaction just fast enough to pull your shield before your face, the arrow sticks with a hard knock in the hardwood of your tower shield, quivering from the journey. “ARCHERS!” Jonothor yells and the First is quick to pull their shields up and begin to cluster together more in formation following your lead. A quick burst of arrows from your left knocks into the trees and the First’s shields sporadically, doing little damage beyond causing them discomfort and unknowing. These must have been the bows that had been stolen, you think to yourself, peaking out over your shield to attempt to discern where they were coming from. Another barrage comes from the left this time, this time you can hear one of your men taking an arrow and crying out in pain. Sheathing your sword you go for your warhorn and blast off three calls in quick succession, the element of surprise was clearly not in your favor already, might as well let Asher with the better eye and position to take care of these hidden archers. A single call matches your three and you again hear the snap of bows and the rush of arrows as they plummet towards the bottom of the hill. Though this time you are greeted with the screams and yells of wounded mountain men and they begin to break from their position hidden amongst the trees, either by falling or jumping. “STAY ORGANIZED! ON ME!” you holler the order and continue your way down the hillside, unsheathing your sword once more and leading the men towards the bottom. Midway you are greeted by the outliers screaming with mad blood rage, and running towards you with rusted steel and moon’s carved upon their forehead. You are quick to dispatch the two that thing to get in your way, the first with a quick jab to the throat of your sword from over your shield, the second with a slash towards his knees and the bottom of your shield cracking his jaw under wood and steel. Clearly the camp has begun to organize some sort of defense, the war cries of their warriors are met with your own strong command, “SHIELD WALL!”The men clamor together in two rows, the first led by yourself, interlocking shields, the second led by Jonothor, forming a roof with their own shields. You peer above the small window between the shields, sword in hand, raised to meet the unwashed horde of godless clansmen that came screaming towards you.>Please roll 8d6 for Fighting(Long Blade). There will be a second roll after this.

The forest floor is slippery with the slick pine needles scattered about and just as you feel your men begin to regain balance and hold firm you yell your order, “PUSH!”With a single shove your frontlines push off the opposing force of Moon Swallows and open up their ranks, the second line taking a half step forward to thrust their swords forward and slam into the rebounding clansmen. You hear the guttural noises of death, the smell of it reaching your nose quickly though is pushed aside by the overwhelming pine smell, thankfully. The shield wall reforms, taking a step forward over the line of dead mountain men, the second line finishing any work left undone in easy fashion. At least they still knew how to follow your orders, as undisciplined as they were outside of battle. Regaining your footing against Jonothor you adjust and yell, “PUSH!”Again your line bounds the hoard off of them, though with far less success this time. The beast men hardly budge and are quick to respond with an attack of their own. You hear some of your men go down, but their ranks take and equal or perhaps more damage. Jonothor’s blade find purchase in a Moon Swallow’s breast and you are quick to pull back into formation before the monster of a man gets in your face again. Not a moment too soon, thankfully, as his mattock buries itself into your tower shield. He attempts to wrench it free as you quickly jab out at him, though it is to little avail, as he grips your sword with a wild look in his eye, you can feel it cutting flesh and are no sooner pulling it back into position, blood dripping from its tip. The Moon Swallow pushes himself against your shield again growling, “YOU DIE TONIGHT SILVER! Jonothor’s sword finds purchase in another of the monsters, his throat this time and he quickly slumps against it, only to be thrown aside with a roar from Crezok. You pull back and lock in again, this time quickly enough to avoid the attack from the Moon Swallows in retaliation, your men are quick to regain their footing this time and ward off any further attacks. Crezok rams himself against your shield once again, his eyes bloodshot. Though this time he is unaware of your sword placement, just to the side as it jabs into his shoulder blade. His screams of rage turn to pain as you twist, rending muscle and flesh with the greatest of ease. Though he remains unflinching, as if possessed.
“I KILL YOU SILVER!” he roars in defiance. You can see the first wave of attackers putting themselves back together for another charge, but not a moment later you hear the call of Ser Trevor Trant and his cavalry barreling down from the hills. The lances lower, Ser Trevor Trant at the lead with Ser Michel the Sisterman and Ser Bryen Belmore flanking him. The ensuing carnage ruins what was left of the first wave. The men falling by the wayside, skewered and slain their hides and leathers doing nothing to stop the glory of the charge. Your mouth curls into a smirk beneath your sallet as the bear men begin to break and run, though not Crezok. He pushes himself further against your shield, screaming and bellowing death upon you with rancid breath, seemingly unphased by the blade stuck in his shoulder. Trevor Trant is rounding for a second pass, to finish the running bear men. You could order your men to break ranks and help with the mop up, descending into an all out melee and allowing you to take the battle to Crezok one on one. Or you could keep ranks and allow the cavalry and archers to do their job and ensuring at least one escape route is blocked off.Orders?>Break ranks>Maintain formation>Please roll 8d6 for Fighting(Long Blades). Not dead, just a lot of copy pasting. All but one remains, Crezok, who like a rabid dog refuses to let go of your shield, pressing your blade further and further into his shoulder as he attempts to break through the shield wall.“HOLD!” you command and your men stand resolute. The rounding sounds of the cavalry can be heard and Jonothor yells as you assume the rest of the bear men are laid to waste by the remainder of the lances and sidearms in the second pass. You would be damned if any of those crazed bastards escaped to the wilderness and your smirk only grows as you hear their death screams echo about the grove and hills. A flurry of arrows from the woods catches those few Archers still left behind from what you assume had been a battle of marksmanship occurring around you during the worst of the melee. Ser Asher Harp is the first to exit the cover of the forest, having lead the ‘Bowmen from the ridge and into the thick of it, keeping a safe pace as he drops a pair of them from the trees with quick shots. Ser Trevor Trant’s cavalry have rounded again but instead of making a third pass having gone east past the camp to round out any survivors and keeping them from running into the forests, while Asher takes their north side with the ‘Bowmen. Ser Landon Grallner’s Attack IDC: 9Roll: 15,23,28>Success, Four DegreesDamage: 5*4=20-2AR=18 DamageCrezok, son of Creyoak’s Health: 6-18=-12Result: Crezok, son of Creyoak DeadA moment’s eye around your shield to watch this all occur is a moment too long, as Crezok’s hand grasps beyond the shield wall and grips with thick hairy fingers into the mouth guard of your sallet, you can feel for a moment your head pulling forward before a flash of steel stops it, the hand going limp and falling to the ground. The Moon Swallow bellows in pain for the first time as he holds the bloody stump of his arm and pulls himself free from your blade. Turning just slightly you see your brother’s blade bathed in blood, having broken formation and traveled from the rightmost flank to your side. He is breathing heavily, but takes up his proper position behind you, next to Jonothor. “FORWARD!” you yell, taking a step with your men, and allowing your line to pass past Crezok, son of Creyoak.
You break slightly, aiming your sword down as he lies beneath you, his eyes still wild, his mouth foaming. He screams and roars at you with cursed words before your sword thrust into his mouth. The gurgles that follow spits blood his one good hand attempting to remove the blade from its place before you twist, his head following with. The snap of bone and flesh comes easily to your ear, his hand falls uselessly to the ground, and you remove your blade, continuing forward unpulsed. Your men take their steps carefully onto the western banks of the camp. Deerskin tents and patchwork cloth make up the bulk of the camp, fires here and there. No sign of civilization, just savages camping down for what reason you could not be sure. Ser Michel rides towards you, his sword raised as he calls in victory, that laxes the First and they break without your order. You look around with disgust a moment before taking the step forward and greeting the Sisterman Knight and opening your visor. “M’lord, we’ve captured the rest of them, the women, children, and elderly that could not fight were gathered in the big tent. Perhaps two score of them, Ser Trevor Trant and Ser Asher Harp await your orders.”You nod quickly and snap off an order to maintain position and watch for possible survivors or those trying to escape though you doubt you are heard over the men’s victory hollers. Jonothor gives you a nod at least and attempts to bring order to the mob as you walk off, picking your way through the camp after Ser Michel. The main tent is not a glorious thing by any means, just twice the size the typical one and covered in bear pelts. In brought a small sense of wonder to you, that this Crezok was so unflinching in the eyes of pain as were many of his warriors. Battle or blood frenzy you heard it called once, an ironborn tactic, disgusting as it was, the unstoppable berzerkers, unyielding and unafraid in combat. No temper to their actions, no Faith as their guide, just unyielding blood lust, you despised it, as more often than not it was the result of substances that drove the man to base instincts. A man without control was hardly a man at all.The tent is surrounded by a few of the archers on their knees, hands behind their head as Asher’s ‘Bowmen stand over them, arrows trained to the back of their necks. The rest are huddled masses of women, most looking at you with the same defiance and hatred the Lady Wylla Earp would often regard you with. Not the fear and crying you were expecting of women and child. The elders had attempted to fight back you quickly glean based upon the five dead bodies of old men splayed out before the tent’s entrance. You enter pushing the cloth door to the side with a look of disdain, you sniff, the scent of animal piss assaulting your nose immediately. Trevor is holding a handkerchief to his nose and waves you over.
“Not much in the way of spoils. Just bottles of piss, I am guessing? But…” he motions over to the corner where Ser Asher is going through a ring of keys over a cage of two men. Who you recognize as the goat herder elders that had been captured when Marston and the Irregulars had been ambushed. Their words of thanks gush the moment they are let loose from their confines, one even breaking into tears. They were to be killed on the morrow you learn from their babbles, a day late waiting for word from the Lynderlys or gathering your forces and these two men would be dead. Also you learn that the ‘bottles of piss’ are some admixture that a hedge witch in the mountains had devised, it was to give the user unlimited strength and remove the fear of the ‘Silver’ from them in combat. “Silver?” Asher asks“It is what they call milord,” the one elder says referencing you, “Armour shines as silver like the moon. He mines the silver they believe came from their moon god and rightfully belongs to them. You are the Silver to them, a man of their legends who would bring about their end times.”Asher scoffs and Trevor looks about woozy before shaking his head, “Heathen words. Ser, we must decide what to do with the rest of the godless mob still remaining. I vote put them to the sword.”“Second,” Asher says with little thought, “Children grow to men with a grudge. Women welp more warriors with stories of the man that killed their father. Elders spin stories of battle and wrongs done. They are better dead.”The elders pass a look, “Please milord. Spare the young ones and the women. We could take them in at the village, half of them are stolen brides to begin with, they no more wanted this war with you than you did. You sigh deeply your brow furrowing. The Faith demanded that the heathens be put to the sword but the Faith also taught temperance and mercy. To protect the Maiden, the downtrodden, and those unable to protect themselves.“Put the elders and any boy past his manhood, as well as the rest of the archers to the sword.”“How are we supposed to know what boys are beyond their manhood?” Asher asks crossing his arms.“They will have received their first moon,” the elder says, “We watched the ceremony a few days past. That is when they are considered men.”“There you go,” you respond, “Now elder. Hear me and hear me well. The women, the children too young to know any better, they may be taken to your village. I grant you this single mercy, though with strain, it is well worth my while to have them all put to the sword. And should a second Moon Swallow insurrection follow, ever, even if it is within my grandchildren’s children’s lifetime, House Grallner will come down upon them with a righteous fury and will not discriminate between within your village. This is my solemn vow. The Mother grants them mercy where the Father calls for justice, do not take this upon yourself within the forewarning of what is to come, is this understood?”The elders exchange a look again and bow their heads deeply, “Yes milord. We thank you for your mercy and for the goodness of your heart. This burden we take with fair warning and vow.”You lick your lips and wave them off, “Be about it quickly then. When we return to Whitestone Keep I will have my men set about my promised patrols, they will serve more than one purpose now. Ser Asher, Ser Trevor have the men gather our weapons. Then I want this camp razed to the ground. Tents, weapons, flesh, and bone all reduced to ash. Leave nothing behind. Understood?”“Yes Ser,” they say in near unison before leaving off from the the tent the elders in tow. You look about a moment longer, the smell of piss clogging your nose and rushing to your head as it slowed from the day’s task. Regarding the tent with little more than disdain you leave off after your men, the dusk has begun to settle and you see Ser Asher leading his men in the final executions of the night while Ser Trevor leads the Elders in taking the women and younglings away. Some resist you notice, one even attacks and Trevor is forced to draw his sword and put her down, this quells the rest you notice but it leaves a bad taste upon your tongue. A worry grew in the back of your mind but silent prayer replaced it quickly, Faith would bring you deliverance. The night grew long as your men set about their task. The smell of burnt flesh, dirty clothes and tents, the piss and shit of the battles assaulted your every sense as you watched the pyre burn long into the night. The fire roared for hours as you watched with silent prayer, sharpening your sword under the dark, moonless sky.[End Chapter IV]

A quick little session that was. I really only had the battle left in my notes. So that's that.Glad to see some people were taking an interest in the warfare aspects of the system. I'll be sure to include them from here on out, even if it means I might spend some more time writing updates. Pre-genning helps a lot, as most of this was copy pasted. But I'll need to figure out a better system and use it in the future. We'll see what happens at the Dawntower Ruins. I enjoyed that bit. Landon's fighting style is vastly different than Brynden's and I enjoy writing his very methodical approach to combat. He is an absolute force to be reckoned with, imagine when he gets some better equipment and upgrades a few more key abilities. Landon is so close to the 30 EXP needed to upgrade an ability. I seriously wonder what is going to be picked. Language is pretty high up there in priorities, obviously. But maxing out on Fighting or Endurance would really push Landon to that next level or gaining some more Damage by upgrading Athletics. It'll be an interesting choice I feel. Anyway, next thread is 31 August at 2-3PM EST. Some errands to run beforehand that day so hopefully not later. Also my Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are all going to free up in the afternoon soon. Such as today, so it is very likely I'll be doing mini sessions like this more often. For those curious, we will be going to visit our liege, Lord Benedar Belmore, in Strong Song in the next thread and have a grocery list of things going on for that. Asking for a loan, asking for him to deal with Bordain for you, feasts, social interactions, Belmore putting on a little show for Landon. It'll be fun and by fun I mean terribly agonizing for our poor MC.

He's a beatnik in regards to most things, but the topics he cares for he really knows. It is also the primary stat alongside Language I'd be using for the whole Warrior poet thing, so I imagine it'll be useful for you guys down the road. Just a reminder. Next thread is tomorrow, Thursday. 31, August at 2-3PM EST. I will link to the new thread here.In unrelated news. Here, have an updated family history. The most notable recent family member you have is Ser Karl Grallner. The Grallners had been serving the Earps for years prior but Karl is the most significant of them in recent years. He was a True Knight of great renown, his lance had won him many victors in Tourney's about the Vale, and he was Lord Earp's sworn sword and Knight-Commander. After the First Blackfyre Rebellion he was promised the hand of the youngest Earp daughter, the first time a Grallner who had until then only been stewards and Household Knights, was ever offered such. She was 1 at the time when she came of age they married and had Luthor and Lysa. The former became a steward and the latter joined the Faith as a Septa.
