The year is 1999, you are Richard Sharp, and today is your 9 year old son Henry’s birthday. You’ve splurged on presents and invited Henry’s whole grade to Chuck e Cheese's. You’ll be damned if Henry doesn’t have great time, he’s finally managed to cheer up over the divorce and you desperately want him to stay happy
You definitely blame yourself for the divorce, not that you think it shouldn’t have happened of course, living with your wife was slowly growing impossible as she drifted off into her own little world, but you could have managed it better, maybe waited a few years until Henry would have been more able to handle it. Unfortunately the way the divorce actually went was horrible, your wife spent most of her time sleeping and crying which really messed with Henry and even if to you it was obvious what kind of person your wife was, Henry still loved his mother. All of this may have been 2 years ago and Henry might be feeling much better now but he’s still sore and you sometimes worry that you’ve fucked you raising your son. That’s why you’ve pulled out all the stops for this birthday, you got Henry that new digi-what’s it and even managed managed to get off work early to pick up Henry and his friends to take them to Chuck e Cheese's. Speaking of work though, what’s your job?
>Lawncare (despite not having a college education you’ve managed to set up an informal lawncare service that gives you and Henry a middleclass lifestyle)
>Doctor (specifically a pediatrician, you considered becoming a surgeon but decided against it as you wanted better hours)

Some unexpected stuff with family came up so this may be the only post in a while
>Business owner
That’s right you’re the proud owner of Rich’s, a modestly successful downtown sports bar. The first few years were a bit rough but that was back before you had a family so you could always suck it up and cut back on luxuries. Now though you’ve paid off the initial loan in full and the bar brings in about 6,000 dollars in profit every month.
Henry is really proud of you for owning your own business even if he doesn’t understand what you actually do for a living. You remember being called into Henry’s school once because he had gotten into a fight over “How awesome his dad’s business was”, you sat in the principal's office simultaneously proud and embarrassed at your son. Hell the reason why you started running Riches more seriously was because you had Henry, the first thing you did after you had him was finally pay off the loan on the bar.
It was fairly easy handing off the bar for the rest of the day after the lunch shift to one of your employees and now you're headed to pick up Henry from school along with some of his closer friends. You’re sure he’ll be happy to see you after all he really looks up to you but what does he admire the most about you?
>Commitment (You were admittedly kind of a lazy piece of shit in your early 20s but that all changed when you got married, ever since then you’ve had an unbreakable commitment to your family)
>Warmth (You’re the fun dad, the nice dad, when you aren’t working you’re playing or joking around with Henry)
>Knowledge (Henry admires you for what you know, he’s always asking you about random things and you usually have an answer)

You’re a hard worker, you’ve put more effort into Rich’s in fact it’s probably not healthy how much you focus on your work. It’s not even like you’re ambitious though, even if you initially started Rich’s because you didn’t want to be bossed around, you never really had the motivation to really make something out of it, in fact you would often open up late or leave early because you just didn’t feel like working. That changed when you got your wife pregnant, part of you being a lazy piece of shit was that you didn’t want much for yourself, you weren’t really driven and the meager profits from Rich’s were enough to fund your few vices, but now you had people that relied on you and you were going to make sure that you provided. Of course 7 years later you divorced your wife but if anything the divorce solidified your sense of duty to Henry, he had one parent now and you would do twice the work if that was what it takes.
Henry is surprisingly perceptive of this, despite just turning 9 today, he seems to understand how much you’ve worked to get him the life he has and he seriously admires the sense of duty you have even if he still misses his mother .Of course you aren’t the perfect father even if you’re so committed to Henry in fact beat yourself about your parenting especially your …
>Temper ( You’ve given so much to make sure that Henry has a good life, it pisses you off when others don’t work as hard as you and you even sometimes get mad at Henry for not appreciating what he has )
> Overprotectiveness ( After the divorce you went a bit overboard with taking care of Henry, honestly you don’t let, him do enough on his own and he sometimes gets annoyed at how overbearing you are)
> Depression (You loved your wife more than anything and even if you were the one who initiated the divorce part you’re just generally sad about the whole thing, sometimes you just don’t have the energy to be with Henry because of how terrible you feel )

Even now it still hurts to think about your wife, but you’re definitely doing better than 2 years ago. Your wife may have broken down first but you’ve had a slow gnawing sense of loss since the divorce, and while it’s not nearly as bad as it used to be there are times when you just can’t deal with it. You have to stay strong for Henry though, when his mom lost it during the divorce it really affected him, so you mostly hide your problems. Henry is perceptive though and there were times when you could swear he knew exactly how you were feeling, he would usually get more affectionate then, he was probably afraid of losing you. That's enough ruminating though, it sounds silly but this birthday is the start of something new for Henry and you.
After mulling over the past 2 years and your relationship with Henry, you finally arrive at marshall elementary. You park at the side of the school and from there it’s a short walk around the sidewalk and into the office where Henry and his 3 best friends await you. You sign the paper excusing the kids a few minutes early from school and then you all walk out to your car and head off to Chuck E Cheese.
You drive a suburban and as much as that hurts you inside it definitely helps when you’re picking up a bunch of Henry’s friends. Griffon sits in the back, content to be a bit further away while Alex, the outspoken goof of the group sits in the left middle seat and Harper, the only girl sits in the middle right seat, Henry is sandwiched in between. They’re definitely all odd kids but they seem to really care about Henry.
You’ve got a few minutes until you arrive at Chuck E Cheese, you could chat up the kids. If so what do you say?

“You know Henry”
Henry and his friends look at you in anticipation.
“I expect you to make the most of you time at Chuck e Cheese, you can’t just hide in the corner like a mouse” You say sternly.
Henry stares at you for a solid 5 seconds confused before disappointment spreads across his face, you were definitely reaching for that joke, even you usually have higher standards. Griffon quietly observes you and your son while Alex is nudging Henry in the shoulder, Harper though is giggling, weird girl.
“Dad!” Henry groans.
“Seriously though make sure to enjoy yourself while were here, I hear this place is awesome” you say
Harper nods in agreement “yeah my cousin had his birthday there, it was the best!” she says
Griffon and Alex though seem uninterested, griffon is usually hard to read, he barely emotes, but Alex just seems above the concept of Chuck e Cheese's.
“Yeah, it’s alright, the important part is the presents though” Alex says.
You swear if the little shit wasn’t one of Henry’s best friends he wouldn’t be in this car, his parents spoil him too much. Still you’ve got to admit that he’s actually quite nice to Henry, or at least Henry tells you that.
“Well, I got Henry that new digi-whatever, everything else is a secret though” You say.
The kids stare at you confused. You guess you really botched the pronunciation or something because the kids are staring at you as if you had a fish's head
“Mr. Sharp, I don’t know of any toy called with digi in it, are you sure you got Henry that?” Griffon says, finally speaking up.
Harper interjects “ I’m sure whatever it is it will be great!”
That keep the kids quiet, and it looks like Henry is confused rather than disappointed so that’s good.
After about a minute of relative silence you arrive at Chuck e Cheese and enter the building, you then settle down and prepare to watch the kids for a few hours, what do you do with your time?

You’ve got a few hours to kill and you doubt Henry would appreciate you smothering him while he’s with his friend so instead you decide to chat up Harper’s parents. You spot Harper’s dad in a cheap dress shirt and khakis sitting on a bench near the dining area away from the arcade and you make your way over to him.
You don’t know much about Harper’s dad, he’s mostly quiet but you’ve pieced together from what Henry has told you that Harper’s parent’s are fairly poor and her dad seems uncomfortable with how extravagant the birthday party seems, especially all the decorations and presents.
Harper’s dad grunts, acknowledging you, he seems like a nice guy but he makes you uncomfortable
“You’re Mr. Edwards, right? Harper’s father?” You ask
“Sure” He says
He’s definitely not one for conversation, still you need to stay on his good side for Henry’s sake
“You’re daughter and my son are good friends so I thought I would say hi” you say
“Mmmhmm” He mutters backs
He really doesn’t want to talk to you, you decide to make one last attempt though
“ I just thought we could get to know each other since our kids are friends” you say
He looks at you finally giving you more than a modicum of his attention
“Look, you seem like a nice guy, but I am really not in the mood, I’m here because my wife demanded I come, I have no interest in you or your son” He says firmly
What do you do?

Harper’s father is definitely in a bad mood, and while he’s being an ass it seems like he he’s had a rough day so you decide to go find Alex’s parents. As you leave to look for the Studebakers, god what a terrible last name, you spot Harper watching you from a distance, she seems a bit upset but she isn’t saying anything so you continue to look for Alex’s parents.
Scanning the dining area you can’t seem to find either Alex’s father or mother so you decide to look near the Arcade. You almost immediately spot Mr.Studebaker playing an arcade game with the kids, he’s dressed in a nice flannel shirt, khaki shorts and expensive flipflops, his wife is hovering a bit away from the kids.
Mrs. Studebaker always gives you the creeps so you decide to talk to Mr. Studebaker, he’s kind of dumb but he’s nice enough. As you walk towards him he looks at you and smiles.
“Rich! How you doing buddy? Can you believe Henry is 9 years old already?” He asks reaching out his hand. You hesitate but decide to shake it.
“Good, yeah it’s definitely weird to see Henry growing up, it must be the same for you right? Alex turned 9 a few months ago” You say, remembering Alex’s extravagant birthday party
“Yep, it’s definitely weird seeing them grow up, man I remember a year ago how little they both were when they first met” he says
One of the kids in Henry’s grade that you don’t know gestures over to Mr. Studebaker
“Well, it looks like they want me back, nice talking to you though” Mr Studebaker says, heading back to play with the kids

You’ve got a little less than an hour until the kids sit down for cake and presents but you feel like doing the rounds and making sure that the kids have enough tokens until then. You spend about 10 dollars on tokens and then go around asking the kids if they need anymore tokens most say they don’t but a sizeable chunk take you up on the offer. By the time you to get to Henry and his close friends you have about half of the tokens you started with but that will probably be more than enough for them, if not you can always get more.
Henry and Harper are playing some fighting game when you find them, Alex and Griffon are off somewhere else, Henry turns and smiles at you but Harper seems a bit ashamed, luckily it doesn’t look like Henry picked up on what happened between you and Harper’s dad.
“Hey dad” Henry says “Why did you come over?”
“I just thought I would do the rounds, make sure everyone has enough tokens, how are you kids doing?” you ask
“I’m good dad, I don’t need anymore tokens, this birthday party has been great” Henry says grinning
“And what about you Harper, do you need tokens?” You ask
“No I am fine Mr. Sharp” Harper murmurs out
“What are you talking about Harper? You just used your last token on this game” Henry says
“I’m fine” Harper say’s definitely embarrassed
“Look, I’ve already spent the money on these tokens so it would be a waste for you kids to not use them” You say giving the rest of the tokens Harper, she doesn’t look you in the eye but she doesn’t give them back either. You walk off not wanting to press the situation

Well other than Harper's father it seems like this birthday party was a success, Henry had fun and none of the kids seem upset, you’ve done a good job. Now all that’s left to do is prepare for when the kids eat cake and Henry opens his presents, most of the gift’s are already on the table but you still need to get your presents from the car and set up the seats at the dining area
You quickly unload Henry’s gifts from your suburban it will only take you two trips to get everything inside, the digi-thing’s gift box glows a bit, you guess it came with battery already in it. On your way into Chuck e Cheese's though Harper’s father comes out and stops you.
“Do you need any help carrying anything?” He asks, you aren’t sure why he’s suddenly changed his mind about you but you don’t ask
“Sure, there’s about one more load that you could carry” You say still dubious about Mr.Edwards. He grunts and then grabs the last of the presents
“You know you’re lucky to be able to give your kid this” He mutters as he carry the gifts inside. You say nothing.
Cake is uneventful, Henry sit’s at the head of the table once again in between Alex and Harper, Griffon sit’s next to Harper, the rest of the kids filling in the table. The kids mostly scarf down their cake.
Now for the main event, you clean up the paper plates and then bring out the gifts. Harper seems happy for Henry albeit a bit jealous
One by one Henry tears through his gifts, Griffon’s gift is a copy of Harry potter and the philosopher's stone, while Harper’s gift is a set of legos, Alex’s parents got Henry a 100 dollar gift card, both Alex and his father look embarrassed, Mrs. Studebaker stares coldly at Henry. All that’s left now are your gifts which is really just a bunch of action figures and the digi-whatever.
Henry unwraps the Digi-whatsit and it begins to glow more and more. Something seems off, Henry is puzzled with the toy and the rest of the kids are equally confused. Suddenly the toy shines even brighter and Henry panics and drops it. The digi-whatever explodes into light, there’s a glowing blue hole in the ground and your son and Harper just fell in.

Your son and one of his best friends just fell through a glowing portal on the floor of Chuck e Cheese’s. You’re about to panic but you calm yourself, you need to get your son and Harper back as quickly and safely as possible and you can’t do that if you can’t think straight. You spend about half a minute trying to figure out what to do, the first thing that comes to mind is that you need rope, but you don’t know what you could use as rope around here, the string tying up the balloons is too thin, then it hits you, it seems far fetched but you could use the jumper cable in your car as a makeshift rope.
You immediately sprint out to your car, pop the trunk open, grab the cables and sprint back in and put the cables in Mr.Edwards hands
“I’m going in after them, weigh this down with a table I’ll use it to climb back out” You say
Mr.Edwards just nods, you can tell that he wants to go with you but someone has to stay behind. Once he pins one end of the jumper cables under the table and weighs it down with all the presents you grab the other end and jump in after them
You feel like your body is turning to liquid, the light is blinding, and everything burns. You feel yourself passing out and grit your teeth, you need to stay awake so that you can hold on to the rope. You keep that up for about 5 minute until the pain is too much, then you black out
You open your eyes and you’re in a small cot, it still hurts, but you can stand up. You spend about 15 minutes inspecting the shack you’ve woken up in before a creature that looks lizard made out of blocks enters the shack
“Well I am glad you’re finally awake” It says

Are we going to see other people besides those who initially fell in the portal? As in, are other kids/adults going to go in it? Also, forgive me for not being too knowledgeable about the source material, but is this one of those things where all the time in the Digimon world corresponds to barely any time in the real world? And is knowing the source material necessary for enjoying this quest?
>>
>>1805619

I like the premise of the quest. Adults are usually useless in digimon or play a very passive/support role, so its good to see one adventure from the point of view of a father

The portal is still open so if any of the parents or kids get anxious and jump in they will end up in the digital world, also you will probably end back in the real world before the end of the quest, as for the time ratio between earth and digi time, time passes faster in the digital world although I haven't decided on a specific rate.
source material isn't necessary to enjoy the quest but if you're interested tamera is my personal favorite season

Also just to clarify a few things about how your Digimon will work, you'll be starting with an in training Digimon which you get to pick that will quickly digivolve to rookie. As for digivolving your digimon has multiple options for what it will digivolve to depending on your actions and won't necessarily follow a coherent line

What's the point of taking a franchise known for being lighthearted and humorous and sucking all the joy out of it? It doesn't feel like digimon, it feels like you're Ethan Mars in an Ethan Mars simulator.

On top of that it's not even descriptive nor with attention to detail. Why should we care about our character? There's little world-building either.
>>
>>1809129
I'll be honest I am not a fan of my writing either and I am surprised no one until now has criticized me on it. Some people seem to like this quest though so I am going to continue to run until people lose interest
>>
>>1809151
Dude, that is what we all do. Just try and focus on writing in a way that gives us a clearer picture and a distinct reason to follow the character. The more you write, the easier it becomes to distinguish what styles work for you.
>>
>>1807733
So digivolution will come about depending on how we treat the digimon with words, food, and choices, say like how we approach combat? Interesting.

Will you be running a behind-the-scenes tally on the choices made to decide on what the digivolution will be?

Session start

Your son is gone, a seemingly harmless present has ripped a hole in reality sucking him and one of his best friends in. After taking a moment to compose yourself in front of the impossible, you went in after him, refusing to lose Henry. Now you’ve woken up in a wooden shack and are faced with a vaguely lizard like creature made out of giant lego blocks.

The creature stands by the door staring at you. You see claws on it’s arms or at least what would pass for claws if they were made out of lego’s. Could this thing hurt you? You can’t tell, on one hand it’s only slightly larger than Henry and appears to be made out of plastic but on the other hand you’ve just jumped through a glowing portal so common sense might no longer apply. You don’t know what you’ll do if it’s hostile, hopefully it isn’t though, you were left unmolested until now after all.

While you’re sizing up the creature it speaks. “I’m glad to see that you’re finally awake” it says.

Well it seems, at least for now, whatever this is, it doesn’t want to hurt you.

“My name’s Duplo, I found you passed out in Http forrest a bit south of here” It says. “It’s unusual to see a human let alone an adult around here.”

You stare at Duplo processing what you’ve just been told, you’re definitely not on earth anymore. To make things worse you doubt the jumper cable held so even if you find the kids you may never be able to go home.

You’re thoughts are interrupted by another voice from outside the shack, this one is a bitter higher, more child like.

“Duplo, is he awake? Can I come in and see?” It asks.

“He’s awake, you can come now.” Duplo responds.

Upon hearing this the stranger opens the door and enters the shack. It’s another creature like duplo, however this one is about the size of a small dog and a bit different it’s a…

A little creature pops its head in the door and looks at you for a few seconds before rushing into the room to get a better look. The creature has a round body, a white face framed by green skin, and two leaves sprouting from a stalk on the top of it’s head, it stares at you with reddish brown eyes.

The room is silent except for the green creatures mumblings, duplo looks at it expectantly. Finally Duplo breaks the silence with a loud cough.

“Oh, umm, I’m Brussels, it’s nice to meet you Mr.Human” It says, halfway squeaking out the words, it’s surreal seeing one of these creatures visibly uncomfortable.

“If you don’t mind me asking, why are you here?” Duplo asks, taking over for Brussels who is obviously uncomfortable.

You don’t know what to say, not only do you not fully understand the reason why you’re here, you don’t know how Duplo or Brussels would react to what you tell them. It seems tempting to lie and make up a completely new story or feign ignorance but then you might not get valuable information from them if they decide to help. Worse still if you decide to lie you might unknowingly say something, that while not true, would offend these creatures. Of course you could try to just ignore the question but if you botched it you would probably upset them.

You decide to tell Duplo and Brussels the whole truth. As far as you’re concerned this gives you the best chance of getting the help you need to find your son, worst case scenario you could book it out of this shack and try to find someone or something else that can help you and you doubt that either Duplo or Brussels could keep up with you, besides Duplo was nice enough to carry you back here while you were unconscious it would feel wrong to lie.

“A present that I got for my son exploded into a portal and he and a friend fell in, I jumped in after them, that’s the last thing I remember before I passed out” You say. Duplo grabs his chin and is quite for an uncomfortable 15 seconds, did you screw up? Are Duplo and Brussels going to attack you now?

Thankfully your fears are assuaged when Duplo speaks.

“I heard three days ago that five children had arrived from the other world on the WWW continent, maybe your son and his friend are part of them?” he says almost as confused as you.

“That can’t be right, almost immediately after Henry fell in, I jumped in after him” You say.

“You’ve been out for at least a day, and time flows differently in the digital world, I can almost guarantee that your son is among those kids” Duplo says continuing to make what you assume is the lego version of the thinking man pose.

“Well, then how do I get to the WWW continent, are we there already, where were the kids last sighted on the content?” You ask firing off questions.

“We’re on Http Island, it’s off the shore of the WWW continent, that’s not important though, it’s not safe for a human to travel right now.” Duplo says.

Well that just threw a wrench in your plans, you don’t know if Duplo is exaggerating the danger but even if he’s mistaken he probably won’t let you leave to find the kids. Maybe you could find someone to escort you on a mission to find your kids? For now you could stay with Duplo and feel things out but eventually you’re going to need to go find the kids.

No matter what, you are determined to rescue your son, that being said if you’re crippled or worse before you can reach him you’ll probably fail. The best course of action for now is to listen to Duplo, unlike you he knows this world and he’s proven that you can trust him. Of course you will eventually leave to rescue your son but you won’t do so until you’re prepared.

“Alright, I’ll stay here at least for now, but could please prepare an escort to the WWW continent? I can’t leave my son alone” You say.

“I can send a request for an escort, but there’s no one qualified to go with you in this village.” Duplo says

“How long will that take? I can’t afford to be holed up here for too long” You say.

This isn’t good depending on how long it takes for an escort you might have to leave without one.

“It will take about 4 days for someone to receive the request and get here assuming they’re already on the island, I wouldn’t worry about your son though, if he’s here for the reason I think he is, he’s safer than you” Duplo says.

That’s weird Duplo seems to know something about why Henry and Harper have been abducted, you’ll have to ask him about it later.

“ Still, if you’re wrong Henry’s just a 9 year old child, he can’t fend for himself, 4 days might be pushing it if that’s true. How dangerous is it really to travel? Do you have any weapons that I could use to defend myself with?” You say.

Duplo shakes his head, you can tell he’s torn between helping you find your son and your safety.

“I really think you should wait until the escort arrives, these are bad times, evil digimon have been raiding the sea and pillaging the villages on the shore. I wish I could give you a weapon but digimon don’t need weapons since we naturally are formed with our own. I won’t stop you if you insist on leaving though” Duplo says

Leaving by yourself is looking less and less inviting by the minute maybe you could fashion a makeshift club out of wood or something but even assuming that digimon are on average as dangerous as an unarmed adult, a group of pirates could easily give you trouble.

“M-maybe I could escort you.” Brussels blurts out, you had almost forgotten he was there.

Duplo seems against this but says nothing, he gives you a pleading look to say no though.

What do you do?

Both Duplo and Brussels stare at you in anticipation, the room is quite.

“What can Brussels do?” You ask Duplo unsure of what you’re going to do.

“He’s just a kid! You can’t be seriously considering taking him!” Duplo says keeping his voice just below a shout.

“Why won’t you let me go! I want to help him, his son’s lost out there, you know how bad it is, he’s in danger!” Brussels says, pleading with Duplo.

“Brussels, you're not strong enough to help him, even I wouldn’t be that useful, I don’t want to send him out there alone and I certainly won’t let you leave the village, you’re too young” Duplo says

Neither Duplo nor Brussels seems to want to budge on this, it would be best not to get involved, at least right now when emotions are high. That being said you need to know what you’re getting yourself into so you interrupt the two to ask.

“How dangerous is it exactly outside the village? You mentioned pirates but how strong are they and how many of them are there? Is there any way that I could get on a boat to the WWW Continent without attracting their attention?” You ask

Duplo breaths in and then releases a heavy sigh.

“Most of the pirates are rookie level, that means they’re about as strong as a particularly strong unarmed adult human, there’s at least two champion level digimon with the pirates though. You would have problems if you ran into three rookie level digimon, you wouldn’t be able to handle a single champion level digimon, you can’t take the pirates in a straight fight” Duplo says “You could try sneaking to a port and hiring someone to smuggle you to the WWW continent, that would be risky though, if you are caught or your ship is attacked you would be in serious trouble.”

Duplo is definitely against you leaving without the escort but if it's as bad as he suggests you don’t know if you can wait a few days to go after Henry. As for Brussels, having him along would probably be better than nothing but not much more, that and Duplo would be incredibly upset.

“I’ll stay, I don’t want to take Brussels with me, I don’t like it but it’s my best shot at saving Henry, in the meantime I'm going to take the time to make a makeshift weapon” You say

The tension instantly leaves Duplo’s body, his blocky shoulders relax and you can hear his breathing calm down. Brussels meanwhile looks a bit disappointed but seems happy to not have fight with Duplo.

“Thank you, I know it’s hard for you to wait but I really think this is the best course of action, and I certainly don’t want Brussels going with you. until your escort arrives you can stay in the village and you are free to roam, just try not to wander to far away” Duplo says

“If you need a guide around the village, I can show you around” Brussels offers

“I'll consider it, I haven't really moved around though since I woke up, I don’t know if I’m feeling well enough for a tour” You say

You have four days until your escort arrives, obviously you’re going to make or find a weapon, but you’ll probably have plenty of time even with that. Obviously you could take Brussels up on his offer for a tour but depending on how hurt you are you could also just spend the time resting up. You could also work a few odd jobs to earn money, if that’s even a thing here or even chat up Duplo to get a better picture of what’s going around here. Having decided that you’re going to stay in the village until Duplo can get you an escort, you decide to go to sleep for the night. Duplo offers to host you for the four days until you leave which you accept. Looking at the shack it seems you probably can’t expect much from Duplo’s house, then again the shack might just be the only place they could take you on short notice so an actual house might be fancier. After you half limp out of the shack, sore but probably without any broken bones, your expectations are chilled.

The village is small, you count seven buildings not including the shack, and while they are all larger and better made than the shack, they all appear to be made out of thatch and wood except for Duplo’s house which is made of a mix of brick and metal sheets. Upon closer inspection though you aren't even sure if the buildings are made of real materials, they have this fuzzy dreamlike quality that makes you feel like you aren’t actually here. You guess that’s just a property of the digital world, that or you have a minor concussion.

Once inside Duplo’s house it takes you about 15 minutes to convince Duplo that you don’t need better bedding before you can go to bed after that you’re left undisturbed. Duplo doesn’t wake you up until what feels like 9:00 AM, and he has prepared you a breakfast composed of some kind of meat and a bit of rice, weird, still it doesn’t taste terrible.

You figure you have enough time to learn what you can about the digital world from Duplo, make a weapon, and then work a few odd jobs for cash in 4 days, and now seems like a good time to ask some questions, What do you ask?

You consider asking Duplo why Henry was taken but decide against it, Duplo himself seemed unsure about his theory, whatever it was, and honestly you don’t care, Henry has been taken and is out there with only four other kids to keep him safe, and that’s what matters, not the reason this happened in the first place. You instead decide to get some general information about the Digital world and see if there’s any jobs you could do instead.

“Duplo, do you mind if I ask you a few questions? I still don’t feel comfortable with how little I know about the Digital world.” You say.

“You’re my guest, feel free to ask anything, I want to do whatever I can to help you find your son,” Duplo says before leaving the dining room.

You don’t know why he left but since you want to avoid smothering him you wait patiently. About 4 minutes later Duplo returns with a hefty book, the letters on it are some weird kind of runes that you can’t read and the paper seems old and wrinkly. Duplo places the book on the dinner table with an understated thud.

“Well, I can’t guarantee that what I or this book knows is accurate, but I believe that for now this will suffice” Duplo says. “What do you want to know?” he asks.

“To start with, what are Digimon, how do they work?” You ask.

Duplo stops to ponder the question for a bit, it seems like he took something as basic as what he was for granted.

“Let’s see, we’re not humans, we come in a bunch of different forms, we can range in power from around the strength of a human infant to being able to wipe continents of the map, of course that’s only been heard of in legends and stuff” Duplo says before taking another moment to come up with a way to explain how the world functions to a complete alien. “Digimon aren’t born like humans are, we’re made out of data and a new Digimon is made when loose data coalesces into an egg that then hatches into a newborn Digimon. The biggest thing though is that overtime as a Digimon collects data from the environment and from absorbing other Digimon, which causes it to grow, eventually evolving into a more powerful form. The levels of evolution go as follows, first fresh and then In-training, which are like human babies and children respectively, followed by rookie, which is what I am, and then champion, ultimate, and mega. That's the best explanation I could give, is there anything else you want to know?” Duplo says

“I want to know about the WWW continent, also do you know if there’s any work you need done around the village? I could use some pocket change for the journey.” You say.

“So, the WWW continent is one of eight major land masses and just west of the eastern digital world, Http Island, the island we’re on is near the east coast of the WWW continent, as for what it’s like, the Digimon on the WWW Continent are much stronger than on this island, there are quite a few ultimates running around and even a few rumored megas. Also if you need Pocket money I could give you some bits, you could haul some wood for more though I Suppose” Duplo says

It looks like you might not have to work for travelling money, you might need more though, that and you feel bad about just taking Duplo’s money.

Duplo has already done so much for you, not only did he rescue you and give you a place to stay, he also payed the money necessary to hire your escort, it feels wrong to take more than you already have, especially because it doesn't seem like the village has much wealth to spare. You won’t take his money, you weren’t planning on him offering it in the first place so you might as well work for your funds instead.

“Duplo, you can keep the money, I feel like I am taking advantage of you as is, I’ll work for pay instead” You say.

That seems to catch Duplo off guard but he seems grateful, you can see it in his eyes, the poor guy was probably already cutting into more of his funds than he was comfortable with.

“If that’s what you want, that’s fine, are you feeling alright? If so you can start immediately.” Duplo says

“I’m a bit sore but I’m sure as long as I don’t push myself it won’t be a problem, just let me know where the wood is and where you need it” You say.

“You can start with the stack of wood to the east of the village, head left out of my house and you’ll see it, it’s just been cut and I didn’t feel like carrying it back, that’ll take you about an hour, come back to me when you’re finished I’ll give you something else to do, I didn’t actually expect you to work much.” Duplo says.

You once again thank Duplo for what he’s done and leave to start working. Soon after leaving Duplo’s house you spot the pile of wood, Duplo wasn’t kidding when he said it would take you about an hour to haul all of it.

As you grab the first load of wood though, you hear a rustling from the brush east of you and you swear you could hear someone muttering but after you look in that direction the noise stops. Maybe it’s just you mind playing tricks that or it could just be an animal or something, you’re pretty sure those exist here considering Duplo fed you meat, hell even if it’s a Digimon it might not be hostile, of course it could also be a pirate that’s moved inland.

You seem to have a dilemma on your hands, you don’t want to stop working to look for pirates that may not exist, but on the other hand if it’s actually a pirate you and the village might be in some serious trouble.

Whatever’s out there you better be prepared so you decide to grab one of the more slender chunks of wood.

“Who’s there?” You ask loudly towards the brush.

“Who are you talking to” says a voice a short distance to your left, you turn to find out who's speaking and you spot Brussels, you guess he wanted to watch you or something, as far as you can tell humans are a rarity around here.

You didn't get a response response from the brush though, all you can hear is the ambient sounds of the village. Either that sound earlier was just your imagination or whoever’s out there is doesn’t want to be found. That doesn’t bode well.

“I heard something from the brush, I called out to see who was there, no one responded” You say.

“Maybe you’re just hearing things? This is the only village in a few miles” Brussels says and you hope he’s right according to Duplo the pirates seem like they would complicate things. You grip your makeshift club tighter just in case

“I don’t know, it could've just been an animal, then again it could’ve been a person” You say.

“Who could be out here beside us? It was probably nothing” Brussels says, he seems to not want to consider the possibility of a pirate attack, then again he knows the area better than you so you could just be acting paranoid. Of course if things go south you don’t want Brussels to be here, he probably won’t be able to defend himself.

What do you do?

Man you’re thirsty, you didn’t haven’t anything to drink with breakfast and it’s pretty hot out. You don’t want to walk back into the village though to fetch water so you decide to ask Brussels to get you some instead, you’ve got work to do.

“Brussels, could you do me a favor, I’m getting kind of thirsty, could you get some water, I’m kind of thirsty.” You say.

Brussels eyes glisten as he hears this and a stupid grin spread across his face.

“Sure! You can count on me, I’ll get you a whole bucket!” He says and before you can tell him that you just need a glass he’s already wobbled out of hearing distance. It’s frightening how fast he can go with such a small body.

Now that that’s taken care of you get back to work and grab a sizeable pile of wood blocks while making sure to watch for anything suspicious and begin to walk back to village. The wood is surprisingly heavy but you still make good speed, partially because you want to impress Duplo and Brussels.

It takes you about two minutes with the wood to make it back to the village and you lay down your blocks near Duplo’s house like he asked you. You can see Brussels on the edge of the well trying to figure out how to work pulley. Part of you wants to go and help him but you know he would be embarrassed and you have a job to do so you jog back to the pile of wood.

When you get back the stack of wood has been moved over towards the edge brush,Maybe your mind is messing with you but you doubt. On guard, you grip your makeshift club that you kept from the previous load. After about three minutes of nothing happening you walk over to to the pile to continue your job.

Something jumps out at you and you barely managed to step back and dodge, you hear a loud thud where it landed. Standing to your side is a green skinned vaguely human like digimon with a club, it’s about the size of a large child but it’s arms are larger proportionally to its body and are fairly muscular. Two more digimon that look the same step out of the brush, also carrying clubs.

This isn’t good, according to Duplo these guys are probably as strong as you and there’s three of them.

What do you do?

> Smash the one next to you across the head with your club
> Run to the village
> Back up and wait for them to make the first move
> Hit the one next to you on the hand to try and disarm it

Three digimon with clubs look at you menacingly trying to start something. You’re having none of this, these last two days have been exhausting and now these assholes come at you with this bullshit.

“What do you think you’re doing?” You ask these hooligans, breaking out the tone of voice you use when Henry is in serious trouble. There’s a mix of calm anger and disappointment in your voice.

All three of them flinch, it seems like they didn’t expect you to actually oppose them, none of them make any sounds as they stare at you dumbfounded.

“I asked you a question, what do you think you’re doing?” You ask again with the same tone. On the inside though you’ve calmed down enough to realize they have a solid shot at seriously injuring you.

The digimon look at each other, mutter a few things and then finally the one standing next to you speaks up.

“Lead us to the village and we’ll let you live” it says gesturing at you with it’s club.

These idiots can’t even find the village, it’s only a few minutes away from here. You don’t know how much those clubs will hurt but at least they’re not smart. You can use this.

You spend a solid minute deliberating what to do, on one hand they outnumber you and are all armed, on the other hand they’re all idiots, and that’s not even considering how mad you are at them. None of them interrupt you they're still cowed by your previous tone of voice. Of course eventually that will wear off and you’ll have to do something about them.

What do you do?
> Tell them the village is about half a day south of here
> Hit the digimon close to you before it can react
> Take them back to the village and then gang up on them with the other digimon
> Threaten them to leave
> Write in

You’ve got a plan, they might outnumber you but if you can trick them into giving you the first shot you might be able to do this.

“Sure, I’ll show you to the village, it’s really simple, just get closer” You say.

They immediately walk over to see what it is that you’re going to show them. You can’t believe they fell for it, you would think pirates would be less trusting of strangers.

“Get closer, I am going to show you something really cool” You say.

The three of them get as close as they can to you, one of them brushes up against your shoulder.

“What is it? What do you have to show us?” They ask you in unison all of them jockeying to get as close to you as possible.

“This” you say as you bash all three of them in the back of the head one at a time, for some reason they’re so stunned they don't even stop you after you clocked the first one. They all lay baffled on the ground, unfortunately none of them are unconscious.

Then Brussels runs in from the west carrying a large bucket of water. The other digimon take one look at him and come to their senses, leaping off the ground they surround you with two of them in between you and Brussels. Well shit.

They may all be injured but now you’re surrounded and they’re probably going to take Brussels as a hostage.

“You shouldn't have done that boy, now we have to hurt you.” the one to the east says. You would chuckle at him calling you boy if you weren’t about to get clubbed.

What do you do?

> Make a break for Brussels

This is bad, very bad, Brussels is a potential hostage and you doubt you’re going to last long fighting three digimon. You might be able to salvage this though if help arrives in time. Actually that gives you a good idea, if Brussels runs to the village to get help he won’t be end up a hostage and Duplo can come save you.

“Brussels, run as fast as you can to village and get help!” You yell at Brussels as you hit one of the digimon as hard as you can in it’s stomach. Brussels gives you a single look to acknowledge that he heard you before throwing the bucket as hard as he can at the digimon you just hit before sprinting towards the village, it beans it squarely on it’s temple. The digimon hit’s the ground hard, you take the opportunity to take a swing at another one of the digimon, unfortunately it’s prepared for your strike and simply sidesteps it before slugging you in the chest, it’s friend follows up and cracks you upside the head with it’s club.

You stagger in pain, barely able to stand, you’re not going down without a fight though so you try to bash one of the digimon in the head, before you can though you take a club to the knee and then another to your back, you scream in pain. This isn’t going well, hopefully Brussels is close to the village by now, you decide to take a peek, he isn’t, in fact he’s rushing back to try and save you, he’s kind of glowing to.

The digimon stop beating you for a moment to watch Brussels, he’s sprinting faster than you would imagine is possible and it looks like his skin is flaking off to reveal a shining core. It only takes a few seconds for Brussels to reach you but by that time almost all of his skin has flaked off, then he explodes in a burst of light and then you think you see something punch one of the digimon right in the face. The digimon that you saw get punched falls to the ground and where Brussels was now stands some kind of plant person with a head that kind of looks like a flower.
“Don’t you dare touch him” It says

My parents aren't pissed at my performance in college and are threatening to with hold tuition until I make some changes, hopefully I can work this out but for now I'm going to have to go on indefinite hiatus. I'm sorry, this is my fault for committing to this quest knowing this was probably going to happen down the line

College is a mistake. Unless you are in for stem you are better off just leaving now and spending that money on something worthwhile.
