You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you were being ambushed by a large Abyssal raiding force. It was just you, Haida, Blyskawica, and Anna against who knows how many Abyssals bearing down on you in the darkness.

And even worse, Anna's collapsed, her body writhing on the water's surface as she clutches her head in pain, screaming all the while.

"Anna! Anna!" You bend down to pick her up, but her wild thrashing was making it difficult.

"Is she hit?" Haida asks, cautiously backing up as she fires her guns into the darkness.

"N-no! I don't know what's wrong!" You reply in a panic.

On reflex, you try connecting to Anna's datalink to find out what's wrong, and you immediately hit in your mental face with a wall of screeching static. Like nails being dragged across every inch of your skin.

"Gah!" You screech as you cut the connection. Was this what Anna was feeling? "Anna! ANNA! Cut comms!"

However, Anna doesn't seem to hear you, her senses completely blinded.

"They're closing in!" Blys scowls as she whips out her lance, its crimson pennant fluttering in the wind. "We're sitting ducks here!"

"We have to start moving!" Haida cautions as Abyssal return fire starts getting uncomfortably close, the shell splashes from misses now showering water all over the four of you.

Damnit!

>Anna's dreamworld is essentially her rendition of the nuclear family in the 50s along with appropriate music in the background . House in the suburbs with a white picket fence, cute dog, handsome son, beautiful daughter, and Housewife Hoel to come back to at the end of everyday for Anna the breadwinner. And on some nights, Hoel's wearing ONLY an apron.

Once again, the electronic static seeps into your head, like rusty nails boiling in your brain. Thankfully though, whatever... WHOEVER was mentally assaulting Anna was keeping its focus on her, giving you enough clarity of mind to force your way through the interference.

In your datalinked eye, you could see Anna, struggling and writhing as a thin blue line was looped around her throat like a hangman's noose, tightening its grip, choking her with her own enhanced perception. On pure instinct, you lung forward through the electronic haze and swing your arm out, severing the line with a single chop.

Everything goes dark as you're forcefully ejected back into reality, where hardly a fraction of a second has passed. In your arms, Anna is gasping for breath, but no longer in excruciating pain. Her antenna is noticeably limp, though.

"Th-thanks, Hoel." Anna wheezes.

"What the hell happened?!" You ask as your radar catches movement and your guns automatically track and fire.

"S-some kind of electronic warfare system." Anna grunts as she wipes some blood running from her nose. "Those Wa-class Abyssals we saw, they're running some kind of network mean to jam my comms!"

"That was more than jamming." You grimace as a heavy shell falls a few dozen meters away, showering you with artificial rain. "Anyways, we need to get out of here!"

"W-wait." Anna finally gets up to her feet. "They caught my surprise, but I think I can counter-jam them, now that I know what their trick is!"

"I think we're better off falling back." Haida warns as she continues to give ground, her back basically touching yours now. "If we stay any longer they'll encircle us!"

"Without comms, our reinforcements will have trouble finding us!" Anna retorts. "Typhoons are inbound in 45 seconds and we won't be able to direct friendly fire support accurately!"

"I'm in no hurry!" Blys cackles as she spears an Abyssal destroyer in the eye, eliciting a pained shriek from the creature.

"Tell them hit the backline!" You bark to Anna. "Focus on the heavy hitters and the Wa-classes!"

"Roger that!" Anna nods as her antenna twitches rapidly, sending coordinates to the Typhoons above.

And on cue, you could see miniature suns light up in the night sky as missiles launched, streaking through the air before diving down towards the water like predatory birds. Explosions rippled across the horizon as Abyssals were presumably blown to bits and pieces.

"Head back to rearm. Good luck down there!" Orpheus One reports. Up in the sky, you could see four pairs of engines burning under the stars as they made their way back to the Falklands base at top speed.

The shriek of jets was quickly replaced by the buzz of propellers as a wave of... biplanes approached?!

Even the Abyssals seemed to be somewhat confused by this, as the destroyers and light cruisers forming the advance party hesitated at firing on them.

The miniature Fairey Swordfish quickly took the opening and released their torpedoes before lazily turning around and away. More explosions as the torpedoes made their way into the tightly clustered Abyssal formations, tearing holes in their lines.

"W-we're here!" You hear Vicky call out on the radio.

"In the nick of time, it looks like." Ark Royal adds in.

Your radar quickly reports that the rest of the British shipgirls were quickly closing in from behind you. Not quite in weapon range, but just within the range of both carriers' fighters.

With their command and control down and this sudden counterattack, it looked like the Abyssals on the frontline were beginning to falter, with a number of them starting to fall back. Right behind them, you could see a pair of confused Wo-class carriers, completely exposed.

Or you could take the chance to hunt that Princess...

>FATE POINT USED!
>2 points remain.

Oddly enough, it's Haida that draws first blood. With a measure of steering control that you're honestly pretty envious of, the Canadian shipgirl manages to weave her way effortlessly through the Abyssal carcasses littering the water, blasting whichever ones she gets close to as she bears down on the pair of Wo-class. The first one attempts to defend herself, but Haida if much faster. A flash of steel, and the first Wo crumples to the water's surface, gurgling as oil blood spurts from the knife slash in her neck.

Without any other word or fanfare, Haida continues on to the other Wo, who manages to block her knife strike with her cane, more out of luck and desperation rather than any sort of close combat skill.

You and Blys move in to catch up, but suddenly your radar spikes to your left and you slide to a halt.

"Blys! Watch ou-"

"Gah!" Blys grunts as the Re-class blitzes through, shoulder checking her Polish opponent and pushing her off into the darkness. However, the string of Polish curses you were hearing at least let you know Blys was still alive.

At the same time, the DD Princess makes her appearance, bursting out of the gloom, a mixture of rage and anticipation distorting her face.

Damnit, you couldn't go after Blys with the DD Princess on your ass...!

Unfortunately, despite your best efforts and the almost literal torpedo soup the Swordfish were dropping, the DD Princess somehow managed to weave and dodge through the entire mess, infuriatingly getting out without a single scratch.

However, thanks to the sheer number of torpedoes in the water, the DD Princess is forced to move in a course that takes her away from the main battle, critically separating her from the Re-class, who was still tangling with Haida and Blys, though Renown, Repulse, and Dorsetshire had arrived on the scene and were starting to bracket the Abyssal with their heavy shells.

Your stored missiles began to vibrate in their cells, eager to be launched.

You decide to ignore the DD Princess for now. The Re-class was the bigger threat, as evidenced of her firing superheavy battleships shells at the approaching British ships.

"Bloody hell!" Repulse yelps as she ducks her head. "She nearly took my noggin off!"

Your missiles streak out of their cells, zooming towards the Re-class with fire and fury.

However, the Re-class sees your attack coming. Ignoring the shells landing on and around her, she whips out her tail and uses it to bat down your missiles, causing a massive explosion that only seems to succeed in causing minor damage. The tail was now burnt and dented, with most of the gun barrels bent into uselessness.

However, that didn't stop her from launching her planes, which she was still doing at a steady rate, with Dorsetshire barely able to ward them off with her AA guns.

"Kurwaaaaa!" Blys yells as she leaps in, taking revenge on the Re-class by driving her lance into the massive tail, pinning it down and by extension pinning the Re-class in place.

At the same time, the DD Princess has finally extricated herself from all of the torpedoes and was starting to turn around, no doubt to assist her fellow Abyssal.

While Blys managed to hold down the tail for a few seconds, she's quickly thrown off as the tail flicks, the thick and dense muscles within proving more than enough to toss Blys away like a plastic toy. However, she held for long enough.

Haida swoops in, sliding under the Re-class' tail whip as she brings out her knife and slashes at the Re-class' leg, effectively hamstringing her. The Re-class drops to a knee, leaving her open to your, Repulse, and Renown's guns.

"Eat lead, wanker!" Renown cackles as her guns open up.

The Re-class shrieks as cannon shells both heavy and light riddle her hull. Carapace fragments and oilblood are sent gushing everywhere as the Re-class collapses.

There's an enraged shriek from the DD Princess, but she doesn't advance. Instead, a pair of Abyssal battleships emerge from the darkness and begin dragging the DD Princess away. The battle was over.

"Whoa, she's still kicking!" Repulse gasps and she kneels down to check the bloodied and savaged Re-class.

"We can solve that." Haida says coldly.

We have our orders, and we can't risk it getting loose inside a base, no matter how much Vahlen might want it.

"Whoa, hold up!" You say to them. "Just restrain her! We need that Re-class!"

The British shipgirls pause to look at you and then to the disabled Re-class.

"I suppose we can give it a shot." Dorsie sighs as she bends down to make sure the Re-class is properly restrained.

"So, I guess we'll be taking her back to Japan?" Anna wonders as she pulls up.

"Yeah, we gotta get moving so we can take it to the Stranger." You say. "We got a deal to carry out with him."

"Hmmmm, okay." Anna nods. "Though it kinda sucks we couldn't really finish our original mission here..."

"Things change all the time." You assure her. "But hopefully, with this Re-class as our prisoner, we can get more answers..."

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week. And don't forget Frontier Knight on Saturday!
