>The Intro
Hey y'all. This is Abhuman Quest. In this quest you'll be playing as a young abhuman in what many call the greatest city in the world. Jewel City. In this world, somewhere between 10 to 25 percent of the worlds population possess unique abilities. These individuals are generally referred to as Abhumans. Ever since an event know as Red Friday, heroes and villains alike have become nearly commonplace across the globe and the world has survived many crises. Alien invasions, a viral plague of undead, a rogue A.I, even visitors from deep in the earth. In this land of opportunity, you will have the power to make things happen and maybe even change the world.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young MC and you will be given prompts to direct him. Whether you become a world class hero, revel in your infamy, or enjoy an anonymous life is all up to you.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Abhumans.

More than simply unusual. This word describes humans with extraordinary abilities that often defy what we know about the universe. These abilities are shrouded in mystery, as their origins are not fully known and they work on no truly understood function. Are they purely hereditary? Perhaps a largely beneficial mutation? Some of the more extreme theories suggest extraterrestrial experimentation. But in the modern age, suggesting that sort of thing won't win you any friends.

No historian or scientist can pinpoint exactly when or where the first Abhuman was born or awakened to their potential. If you're the "seeing is believing" type, then you'd probably say that The Amazing Stratos was among the first Abhumans. This is a popular opinion. But then again. You could have your pick of any folk tale, legend, or story from almost any culture on the planet and find mention of a human performing impossible feats. The validity of these tales is essentially impossible to verify and most would argue that it doesn't truly matter. Since if they were once fact, they have undoubtedly been corrupted beyond recognition by many years of retelling.

Honestly, it's a question that most never dwell on or even think to ask. But all that one needs to know is that Abhumans are very much real, and some hold so much power that they are akin to demigods on Earth. But despite the overwhelming power he held, the strongest of them was seen as a universal symbol of power used for good. Now we call him the First Hero. But he would prefer that most call him Pinnacle. Though he was born american, Pinnacle considered himself a "citizen of the world" as he used to say. Essentially, he didn't want to be limited to only one country he could help in times of need, or be held back by politics in general.

Through much trial and tribulation, Pinnacle started the golden age of superherosim. Convincing many of the worlds governments, particularly America, to give Abhumans a chance to do good. Not as soldiers or simple workers. But as Heroes. People to look up to, people to rely on when normal means simply can't get the job done. Though even the legendary hero himself admitted that the change of heart in the world leaders was mostly due to the events most refer to colloquially as Red Friday.

Those events events shook the foundation of modern society as a whole and changed how many view the world, and beyond.

>[The circumstances of ones birth does not have to define them, but it will have an effect, regardless of where your life takes you.] [CHOOSE YOUR ORIGIN]

>Corporate Scion
You are the heir apparent to a very successful and large corporation based in Jewel City. Like many children of wealthy backgrounds, you had the best of everything and you didn't want for much. Save for basic human interaction.

>Boom Orphan
You and your immediate family were victims of the last actions of Boom, a speedster supervillain that caused a supersonic explosion that leveled a decent bit of the city. You lost both of your parents in the blast and had to grow up very quickly, learn how to survive on your own in the not so pretty parts of Jewel City. The streets are your home.

>Living Legacy
You are the son of a well known Abhuman who died years ago. You've been trained from a young age by a family friend to take up the mantle of your fallen parent. It doesn't matter if they were hero or villain or something in between. Whether or not you actually follow in their footsteps remains to be seen.

>Just Some Guy
You are... well, not many things. You're young. You're a highschool student going on your senior year. You have at least some family and you've had your powers for as long as you can remember. Maybe they've been there since you were born. Using them is very natural to you, as they're just an extension of yourself. You're just on your way to school.

>Taken
You don't have an identity anymore. And you barely remember who you used to be. When you were ten years old you were kidnapped for your potential and locked away. You lost any chance of a normal childhood as you were mentally and physically tortured for the next decade. They wanted you to be a living weapon. But you're no longer there. Now, you're here. And they cannot take you back.

>[Even among Abhumans you will stand apart. This choice will define you as much as the last.] [CHOOSE YOUR POWER PACKAGE]

>Psionic Package
(This package includes psionic abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, and the potential for more. Such as hypnosis, mental projection, psychic illusions and thought reading.)

>Powerhouse Package
(This package includes kinetic energy manipulation, and a general physical boost. It allows you to internalize kinetic energy and use it to make yourself stronger and more durable. It also enhances your senses.)

>Speedster Package
(This package of course includes super speed, and branches off into all things you would think possible. manipulating centrifugal force, lightning fast melee combat, accelerated healing, and more.)

>Blaster Package
(This package includes both elements of heat and cold. Allowing you to switch freely between them. This power is fluid and learning many techniques is possible. As well as combining your power over the temperature extremes to great effect.)

>Shape-Changer Package
(This package is the most flexible. It allows you to progressively evolve your biology. Over time you can obtain mutations that simulate many other powers. Eyes that can sense heat, vocal cords capable of a sonic scream, a bladder that allows you to spit acid and teeth that can chew through steel are all possible.)

>Legendary Package
(This package consists of a certain form of energy projection. You can project a field of energy around yourself and shape it how you please. It's possible to form all kinds of shapes. It also helps that the field is bulletproof and can smash cars and slice through steel. And that's not even all it's capable of.)

Yes! Tactile Telekinesis has it's own uprgade tree!

>>1809559
>>1809567
It's not adaptive. You basically pick new bodily mutations with each new upgrade. You can't change to new shit on the fly really.

>>1809543
>Psionic Package
Things like full on mind control and lifting a building with TK are possible

>Powerhouse Package
You'll near godlike strength and durability, not to mention being able to (sort of) keep up with a speedster.

>Speedster Package
This one is a bit self explanatory. Go very fast, vibrate molecules, that sort of shit.

>Blaster Package
Superheat and cool the air to create big ass explosions, and pretty much anything you'd associate with top tier cryo and pyro manipulation

>Shape-Changer Package
By the time you're top tier you'll be a monster with LOTS of smaller abilities that let you be prepared for almost anything

>Legendary Package
This offers immediately fantastic offense and defense, not to mention it goes into energy projection and flight. And being able to shape your field make you more versatile.

Cold.

So cold. It's always so cold. Your eyes open slowly. The viscous gel-like fluid inside your pod doesn't sting them. In fact, it is almost pleasant. You believe the agent inside is some sort of medical preserver, it keeps you healthy and alive while you are not needed. The mask over your mouth and and nose releases slow moving bubbles into the liquid as you breathe in and out on your own for the first time in... it must have been a while. You were kept under for at least several months the last time you went under.

Your eyes turn up and you notice a staff member of the facility staring back at you. His eyes are hard and dark. He observes you casually, and returns to pacing about the nearby table. Once he is out of your field of vision you simply wait to be released for your pod. This is how it always goes. You are woken up. You are examined, scanned, readied for combat and given a mission debrief. From there you are transported to the mission zone and complete your orders to the letter.

Just as you were taught. But... this time it is different. You're eyes turn back up as you observe the scientist. You don not know his name. You do not know most of the names of the individuals working here a t the facility. You only know what they wish you to know. As it should be. A tool should only be enough to do the ob they were made for. Anything more is superfluous.

He stops after pacing around the table for exactly 11 minutes and turns back to you. He regards you with just a slight measure above the normal amount of consideration he gives you, then exits in a swift walk through the auxiliary exit and once again, you are alone. You're eyes begin to close again. You prefer sleep to the pure silence but something happens. Something that's never happened before. Your pod shakes. It rocks ever so slightly, creating sound inside your chamber.

And then, another thing that never happens happens. Your pod begins to drain. And there is no one at the work stations that line the walls in the room where your pod sits. Soon you are left standing inside, and mechanical arms with arms covered in soft synthetic materials help you stand as your pod opens with a hiss. You stagger out of the pod and soon stand without assistance.

And there you stand, frozen in place. Unsure of how to even move without someone giving you orders. It takes a moment. But you take a small first step. Then another, and another. Until you are stopped short by the reflection you notice in a nearby monitor. It's you. You cannot remember the last time you saw yourself. They keep your head shaved. But you have dark eyebrows. Your body is completely lined with scars. Most straight and surgical. Others not so.

>Continued
>>
>>1809903
You recognize each and every one. Most of them come from your conditioning. You remember each and every moment of that as well. Every cut, every scrape, every burn. You understand why. It was to understand the limits of your abilities. And to make certain you know to obey orders. You will always obey orders. Won't you? Your brown eyes look back at you. They are dark. They regard themselves cooly. Just as the scientist earlier...

Another bump. But louder, harder. Something is closer. Something is in the facility. Turning your head, you spot the wall containing the gear you are allowed to complete your missions. If there is an intruder. You should eliminate them, should you not? You do not know. You have not been ordered to. You are not required to know when to eliminate targets on your own.

But... you must do something. There will likely be staff available should you leave this room. They will be able to direct you. Nodding to yourself, you approach the wall and place your hand on the scanner to reveal the contents. There is not much here. Only your suit. It is featureless, without color or other distinguishing features. It is made of a very special and advanced mesh. It's molecules adptt to new shapes and allow you to freely change for the situation.

You slip into it easily, it was made for you so it has always felt right to put it on. It covers you up to the neck and wrists and covers your feet. Once you are equipped you exit through the main door just as the alarms begin to blare. You look up at the red lights flashing throughout the hall and wonder just what could be occurring above you. You take off in a half-sprint down the hall. You run through the nearby labs and office areas, completely deserted. Not a single staff member in sight. You were never allowed to see the whole facility, but you know that there can' be many down here.

Once you reach the elevator you immediately turn into a left to head towards the stairs, as the doors are sealed. You climb the stairs with ease but stop as soon as you reach the next floor. Bodies. Security personnel. On the ground and...

It only takes you a moment of looking out at the floor to recognize the scene. Over a dozen bodies, an entire squad of security. Dead from where they stood. They were engaged from the front and overwhelmed by superior tactics and firepower.

You kneel for a moment to examine the bodes. Single shots to the head on some, tight grouping of shots center of mass on others. Several are bleeding profusely from wide and deep blade wounds. Expanding armor piercing rounds. And it appears to be... high frequency blade? Yes. The cuts are much too clean for it to simply be a combatant with enhanced strength, the armor of the victim is typically shattered in that case. They are well funded indeed.

Taking a second to scan the floor you see only personnel of this facility. The attackers suffered no casualties. Once you are certain they are all dead you take off towards deeper inside this floor. The soles of your feet leave behind footprints of blood that get thinner and thinner as you go, disappearing entirely after a while. This is highly unusual. For the facility to be attacked. Much less for it to suffer such a total and compromising defeat. You'll need to find command. You need your orders.

As you approach the next floor you notice you are coming upon the indoor atrium. You were brought here on occasion to receive artificial sunlight. It was to keep your body healthy. One must maintain any tool. As you ascend the stairwell in similar fashion to before you notice the sound of gunfire. Here it is, you are approaching the current combat zone.

Once again use your palm to access the emergency doors, you see...

>Drones. And not any drones. These are high grade warfare drones. It is indedibly illegal for these to even be in the city. And they could only belong to Genesis Industries.

You lower yourself to the ground as your changes take place. The nails on you hands and feet blacken and elongate, your toes stick out from your suit, weapons at the ready. Your vision swims for the briefest second before becoming incredibly sharp and clear. The base of your spine tingles as a long and moderately thick tail springs from it. The palms of your hands adhere to the wall and your teeth fill your mouth.

Placing one hand off of the wall, you spin your body upwards and carefully place the balls of your feet on the wall and back up until you adhere to the ceiling. Closing your eyes you get the strange feeling that only comes with this, you flicker and vanish from normal sight. With your changes complete you swing from the top of the door frame and land on the ceiling in the next room.

You crawl swiftly across the ceiling. Making no sound. Even if you did, this cacophony of gunfire would cover you. The wide open ceiling of the atrium provides great cover as you make your way across to get into a position of power in the room. The mercenaries below you are taking to the fight with a a kind of seal that belies their professionalism.

A woman with a automatic firearm integrated into her cybernetic arm is actually laughing as she lays down suppressing fire and one man launches his hand to grab a security officer preparing to throw some kind of grenade. Punches him until he ceases moving and tosses the grenade back towards the remaining security. They are working with great efficiency, just as you thought.

But there seems to be something else here. The Sec forces are facing opposition from both sides. And you can hear the screams even now.

From here, you can drop into their formation and cause chaos within the group and work from there. Or...

>Attack the Viper Squad. You have no orders but you must work in the interest of the corp.
>Attack the Sec forces. You they are being hard pressed, one push from you and they will falter. You may not have to stay here.

You lift a single claw off of the ceiling and prepare to drop but you hesitate. You look from the group of mercenaries to the Sec officers to the rooms exit they are guarding. You do not need to do this. You have no orders. But you are active. The facility is compromised and you may never receive orders. You do not know the way because you were always escorted and taken via elevator but you may be able to find your way to the outside. To the surface.

To your knowledge, the facility is underground. Meaning you'll simply have to progress upwards to proceed. And if Sec forces is too occupied attempting to quell the raiders then you just might be able to make an escape. An escape. The word hasn't even been in your mind for years now. They made it very clear that it wasn't a possibility. But things are different now. Today has been nothing but irregularities.

So you crawl. You crawl away from the fighting and through the exit hall, all the way to the the other source of fighting. You pause upon seeing just who is fighting. It's a mercenary that worked for this corp on a permanent basis. And another mercenary that only worked for the corp on a case by case basis. Your eyes widen the barest fraction upon seeing him. Agent Carver. The man is inside a mammoth suit of power armor and toting firepower that is illegal in more countries than you care to list. And darting around him, nicking the armor here and there, trying to reach the vitals of the suit. Is a woman wearing nothing but basic black clothes suited for combat, and wielding to large blades in tandem. Richards.

Agent Carver, your handler. You do not know why. But you believe he dislikes you. He takes many liberties with your punishments. But he always gets the mission done efficiently and attempts to "toughen you up" during your training periods. He did not hurt nearly as much as when you were first brought here. So in many ways, you welcomed his presence. You think he resents abhumans.

And Richards? She's just a mercenary. A freelancer, really. She takes jobs contractually and only owes her loyalty for that mission. Carver has always despised her and threatened to kill her more than once. She does not pay much attention to Carver. She is an abhuman as well. Though her abilities are quite simple. She is much stronger and durable than most any human. The mean and women who assign your missions often describe her as a blunt instrument. She always ask you if you want a cigarette when you work together.

You always decline.

Richards. You've seen her fight. You've seen the way she moves and handles herself with her inhuman strength. The woman is bulletproof but she avoids getting hit by Carver's main gun at all cost. You can see all the heat radiating off of the suit as he attempts again and again to trap her. And she slips through his grasp time after time. An outside element would change this fight immediately.

Looking down at them, you let out a small almost inaudible gasp then Richards takes a bullet to the side, she doesn't even fall but she slides across the floor on her feet, blade digging into the floor. Carver is the one that directs you, but Richards never even so much as asked you for anything. They never like it. Your superiors. The way she treats you. You didn't understand before but, maybe you can, if you try.

You peel you hands from the ceiling and lower to standing on it with just the balls of your feet. Then you drop. Landing on Carver's large shoulder you wrap your tail around his suits optics and stab your nails into the crook of his right elbow, he is still completely protected inside but now his ability to use hus weapon is impaired. He attempts to grab your tail but you flip off of him before he can touch you and crouch low to the floor.

Richards is shocked to see you, to say the least. She almost calls out to you but then rolls into a sprint and runs of a wall to avoid Carvers new hail of gunfire. The man in the mech suit lumbers to turn towards you. "Really. You get just a crumb of freedom and you bite the hand that feeds you? Commands you? And just when I was starting to think there might be something going on in that bald head of yours."

He raises his left hand and the mech reaches behind itself to launch a grapple at Richards as she approaches from behind to attack, it wraps around her and he whips her towards you. Thrown off guard by the unorthodox tactic you get caught by the swinging cable and go down as well. Carver is on you before you can think. He raises a giant foot to stomp on you but you roll and crawl away just as Richards tackles him head on and knocks the mech through the west wall. She takes a moment to breathe and looks at you. "You're the last guy I'd expect to come to my rescue Zee."

"As I I told you previously, my designation is Z-191045-"

"Yeah. And like I told you before, that shit is a mouthful. And not a real name."

"I am quite certain that 'Zee' is not a real name either." Through the darkness in the whole inthe wall you see Carver's huge frame move before you here it. A red blob shifting in the darkness.

He was an asshole already from what we knew though, or it was implied anyway, he was just effective with jobs and rough when he trained us, so when we are given a chance to be free or help 3 people, we went to help the one person who we could just minimally call a friend, meaning they were neutral. So its not the biggest stretch in the world, but a stretch i do agree, but not a big one i would think

If it's a stretch at all, with a blank slate character, it's usually too much. We have no reason to go from 0 to 60 on the murderboner scale.

You leap into the hole just as Richards is responding and she yells after you. Now is not the time for talking. Carver is too proficient in direct combat for you to allow him to recover and fight on even ground. You crawl across the wall inside the dark office space that Carver's armor has half destroyed with it's fall and attempt to make it past him before he regains his senses and notices you. Richards provides an ample distraction.

She barrels into the room and meets the mech's fist head on with her own. The force of the two clashing creates a loud cracking pop in the air. You climb and crawl your way up the wall and onto the ceiling, waiting for an opportunity. Richards fights Carver in hand to hand before he slams her with the grapple gun at close range. Apparently knocking the wind out of her. Leaving you with a chance.

You drop down into his head and jam your claws into certain pints on the helmet and bits into the machinery on the inside of the deep collar, ripping out many small parts.Carver roars from inside the suit, his voice scrambler making it sound nearly bestial. He grabs you by the tail and wings upwards, slamming you into the ceiling. Hitting the ground, you assess your injuries just as you get up.

Sharp pain in the ribcage. Hairline fractures? Back definitely bruised. Richards seems to take Carvers weakened state as a sign to finish the altercation. As she throws one of her blades and it goes deep into the head of the armor. But you know how it's designed, The head is merely to draw fire and contain sensory equipment. Carver's head is in the chest of the armor.

You bound on all fours for a boost of speed and leap onto the gun arm of the suit. Wrapping your tail around it and struggling to keep him from firing at you or Richards. You definitely cannot hold him like this. So you elongate your claws further, and begin slashing away at the cbend in his elbow, just as before, only this time you don't stop until he finally pulls you off. And Richards follows up by kicking him over and using her blades to cut the gun arm off entirely.

But even so, he struggles to get up. Mech sputtering shooting coolant all over the dark room. "So what's this all about eh? Got it in your head that you can escape? After all this time? Please. You don't even know whats happening here do you?"

The suits chest folds open and recedes, showing you Carver's scarred face, his copper hair. "Fine. Go on and try your luck. You do realize there nothing waiting for you up there? At least here you had a purpose."

Richards approaches after retrieving her knife and she scowls at the agent. He just smirks. "Even someone like me can tell that ain't no way to live."

Carver just spits. A tooth clatters across the floor. "You don't know him like I do. Ain't the right, hmm? You like the structure. You like your little pod. Preferable to what they had you living in before right kid?"

Richards shakes her head and sheathes her knives"We gotta hoof it before the Vipers show up. Zee, c'mon."

Carver suit lurches and Richards hands are on her blades grips in an instant. "You wait just one goddamn minute! I got one last order for you kid. Kill me."

Wait. You. You cannot. "You get over here, and do what you're handler tells you! Now! It's all you're good for!"

The mercenary woman steps in front of you. "What're you suicidal now?! Find a bridge to jump off of. We gotta go Zee."

You look at Carver. And you see something. In his eyes. It is something you've seen before. He is afraid.

Afraid of what? You cannot say. You have not known Carver to be afraid of anything. But you do know one thing. You've beaten him. You do not have to obey his orders any longer. He stares at you hard. Ineffectually trying to rise in his crippled suit. "C'mon, Baldie. You do what you were trained for. It's real easy. You've done so many times by now."

Your mouth opens but any words you had die in your throat. No. You don't have to do this. You don't want to do this. You simply turn and walk away.

"No! I am commanding you to come back here right now!" His cries grow more distant as you get further from him and the last of the fighting between the Vipers and Sec forces. Richards just runs besides you. Saying nothing. You run and run, heading up via the access your palm being on file gives you. Eventually you find your way to the only exit you know of. The entrance. But you're starting to see signs of a fight. A big one. So the raiders came in through the main entrance as well? Then why aren't you seeing them?

What you normally see as an incredibly busy are filled with staff and security. Is barren, leaving only wrecked vehicles and bodies. The massive thick steel doors are busted inwards. It gives even you pause. Just who did the Vipers bring here? Your head stirs with questions. Questions you wouldn't even think to ask normally. Richards approaches and you recoil on instinct when she attempts to put a hand on your shoulder.

Though you are uncertain of what to say after what has happened she seems to play it off. "Well, we should find a working ride to get us outta here. Then we should ditch it, first chance we get. Maybe wreck it a little. Just for fun."

She looks at you until you nod in the affirmative and she gives you a thumbs up before sauntering off over to where the ground vehicles are kept.

>Continued
>>
>>1812023
After only a few minutes. Richards returns with a vehicle and you both pile in, You, after returning to a normal state. Richards drives incredibly fast and dangerously but you'e racing out from between the enormous broken and smashed doors before you have a chance to even think. You exit onto a long stretch of road leading above ground. There are obvious signs of fighting everywhere. Craters, vertical scorch marks. There must have been abhumans on the raiding team.

But how could you not have encountered them? You should've been directly in their path. Before you can concern yourself further with that. Your senses are assaulted by light. Many lights. Your vehicle emerges into what appears to be a normal parking structure but you know it can't be so. Richards navigates like she is very familiar with it. She must be. She more than likely had to visit this facility multiple times to accept or complete contracts.

The lights are from the buildings immediately outside. The digital screens and false neon force you to keep your eyes shut until you return your vision to it's normal state. Then you open them. Richards climbs higher and higher in the structure. Allowing you to see more of the city glowing in the night. You've never seen it like this before. No. You've been outside during the night but... you've never noticed. You've never really seen it like this.

Richards chooses a secluded corner of the parking structure to park. And as soon as she does she shoves her hand into the condoles and starts ripping and pulling out the innards of the machine. She seems satisfied. You opt to get out of the car instead. You nearly stop in your tracks when you feel the cool wind against you. You sleep for most of it. But you can feel the time lost. The time you spend away from the sky.

You stand looking over the railing at the city before you. This is downtown, very close to an impoverished area locals call the Underside. Richards ends up next to you as your getting lost in the lights. "Must be beautiful to you huh? All that time underground, only comin up to do a job." She shakes her head. "Damn shame."

Beautiful? You suppose it is.

She simply stares at you after that, a look in her eyes that you cannot decipher. Perhaps waiting for an answer. But she speaks up again before you can offer one. "Listen Zee, I'd understand if you just wanted to disappear onto the streets. Do your own thing. But I got this friend. She helps people like you- well, people with out many choices. And I think you should at least meet her."

It's just a personal preference, plus we can likely do more specializing in one shape changing general direction instead of being a jack of all trades that gets beat out by a focused type of similar powerlevel. Everything you can possibly do isn't everything you should do.

Plus reptile monsters are cool and if we weren't a stealth type pic related would be cool to do.
>>
>>1812319
We don't need to always be stealth type, and i would rather we retain a humanoid-like form for combat, which is my preference, if we were limited to animals then i agree, that would do. I hope we so get out of the stealthy type combat though, I regret voting for that
>>
>>1812359
We could have multiple specialized 'forms' to switch between. For example, we sneak into an enemy group in sneak form, than quickly turn into a tank form and suplex the poor fuckers, then turn into an escape form to fuck off.
>>
>>1812359
If we wanna go non-lethal, squid or tentacles might be a good and simple mutation to grow.
>>
>>1812381

Don't squid have massive rings of hooks inside of their suction pads?
>>
>>1812379
Well i would rather avoid the 'forms' altogether, and just keep the body as humanoid, like if we need to escape we can switch our legs out and deuce the fuck out.

"Why are you helping me?" The question comes out quickly. You don't feel the need to only speak when spoken too. Not here.

Richards whistles. "Million dollar question huh?" She takes off her hat and looks up at the sky and back down to the glowing city below next to you. "Cause you helped me? Cause you needed it? Cause you still need it? It doesn't matter which one."

"Your answer does matter." You turn ever so slightly to look at her. The pink lighting falls upon her face easily without her cap.

She sighs. "Yeah you got me there. Look, I was in a bind. And you helped. And I'm guessin you did that because you don't wanna be what they want you to be, right?"

Unable to really finds the words, you just nod. "Exactly! So I was just, returning the favor. Like I'm doin now. Like I said, I ain't barkin orders, I just wanted you to know you have a choice. You don't have to just go it alone from the start. You already know how cruel people can be."

Silence falls between the two of you. Your eyes settle on the light below you as you consider all she has said. You have no reason to disbelieve her. And if there is someone who can help you then perhaps it would be foolish to decline. No one ever wanted to help you before, why should you turn it away now? You turn t Richards, a dark blue light falling over the both of you. "Yes. Yes, I will meet her."

Richards grins. "Good on ya! Lemme get us a car and we'll get outta here-"

"One moment." You do not look away from the view of the city.

It takes her a moment to answer. "I was approached for the job raiding the facility. But I declined. O'course, didn't tell my contractors cause I'd be considered a liability..." She pauses. "They found out anyways. Carver cornered me with a Sec sqaudron when the fuckers attacked. They lied me about the date, otherwise I woulda made myself scarce."

"So you had no choice?"

"I'd say that, yeah. Didn't want things to go down the way they did. But they just wrote my paychecks Zee."

It doesn't take you long to consider what to say. "That is acceptable."

She seems almost surprised when you drop the topic altogether. You hear her walk away a couple of moments later and eventually, she comes back with a car.

You sit comfortably in the vehicle . Luxury, it seems. Richards has inserted some sort of tool into the on-board computer. Most likely a hacking tool. Automatic, won't get any real work done but it is convenient. Richards leaves the structure in short order and drives towards uptown, richer and more well secured area of Jewel City. The false neon and bright signs for businesses get replaced by huge holo-displays and spotlights.

The entertainment district. Every legal vice is available here. And illegal ones as well. Gambling, fine dining, prostitution, high priced shopping. It's all here. And all in lights. Jewel City sought to steal the thunder of the old city of Las Vegas. Though it does remain one of the most frequented luxury spending locations. The city built on Vegas' bones does much better. They call it Arcade.

You pass Redlight Avenue and head towards a club. One that is clearly not like the others. It's aesthetic is clearly based on classic lounges. You and Richards park the car near the back entrance and she leads you to a single door. You suddenly feel very exposed out here on the ground. And your heartbeat begins to quicken as she takes a minute or so to fish something out of one of her many pockets. She brings out a badge eventually, and flashes it to the doors sensor and it lets her in, and thus you.

You've been inside of a club or two when on a mission. They usually vibrate with music and dancing but this one is calm. Collected. There is a low hum of chatter that somehow puts you even more on edge. You enter from into a stairwell that's darkened by the low light in the lounge. Richards hops up the stairs with familiarity, and a distinct spring in her step.

Once you reach the top you are stopped for less than a minute by the bouncer. Who moves aside immediately upon Richards flashing her badge. The door to the next room slides open and Richards strides in like it's her own home. "Lilly! I'm here for that visit!"

You hesitate to enter the room, staying in the shadow the doorframe provides. A woman with long straight dark hair turns and smiles warmly at Richards. "And a good evening to you, Angie.... but whose this hmm?"

Richards looks over her shoulder and waves you in. You take a breath and step out of the darkness. The woman's eyes widen just a fraction before she smiles wide. "Oh. And just what is your story? Young man~"

Good first thread Sleepy, but yee, questions ahoy!

What road of origin did you personally want to write?

How much capability does our power have? Like a glimpse of its potential?

Did you get inspiration for this from my hero academia? One punch? Any other quests? Comics?

It really depends. You could be a living swiss army knife or a monstrous bio-powerhouse.

Forgot to answer this one.
All of the above really. You'll see as more of the world gets revealed, it'll be a bit slow going but info dumps sucks so you'll just have to wait for most information until it's relevant.

>>
So what was Oddball Style going to look like?
>>
>>1813741
I saw some people talking about plastic man but that's pretty far away from what it was.

It was essentially, a combination of the weirder or more esoteric mutations. Like bio-electrical abilities, acid breath, multiple arms, tentacles. It'd make you difficult to predict and you'd start with a set of Mutations that don't mean one way or the other. But honestly, the way this power works you guys will never be a complete master of anything but you'll be able to do LOTS of things.
>>
>>1813874
So when's the next run boss?
>>
>>1813879
This coming Saturday, 12pm PST
>>
>>1813874
On mutations themselves.

Are we going to be able to focus into types of mutations or is it just gonna be a mish mash of features that work together to do something. Just because I still like the idea of going full reptilian even if I'll probably be outvoted on it.
>>
>>1814653
Well, you can focus on certain kinds to a point.
Think of this as a jack of all trades kind of ability. You can get pretty good at certain things, but you'll never be the best. For example. There are more options that lend themselves to stealth. But the camo you guys already have is as good as it gets. You just don't have access to true invisibility. And because of the origin you guys chose, you're naturally predisposed to combat.
>>
>>1809580
So did crusty die or something?

Well while the writing itself, your grammar and word choice, is quality-
It's just not interesting to me in the same way that Metahuman Quest was.

That's not entirely your fault, that's /qst/ picking a really shitty character that I don't think you should've even offered as an option.

There is nothing more boring than a character with no personal ties. There's simply no drama to be had there. No hooks. And an unemotive character that purposely distances themselves from people? That's EVEN WORSE.

That's "babby's first chaotic neutral character who hangs out in shadowy corners and has no in-character reason to join the party and stabs the wizard because that's what my character would do" tier. That's been there done that got the tshirt and then mentored about a dozen teenagers through that phase and I'm sick to death of it.

Morgan was interesting because he had a mom to protect, and a father's memory to live up to, and lots and lots of friends, and rivals, and mentors. There was stuff to play off of there and interesting decisions to make. There was an overarching tension that simply doesn't exist in this game. This first thread is supposed to be your big sexy hook that you put extra effort into in order to grab people, and the impression I got was that it's teflon. I'm trying to be hooked because it's you, and I can't find anything to grab onto.

While I'd like to say that I trust you to take it somewhere good, that you wouldn't make it as predictable as it already seems, I just don't. Sorry. I hope you prove me wrong and it's really great, but I probably won't be reading it.
>>

You are making a lot of assumptions my dude. We were kidnapped, people might remember us. We haven't tried to push people away yet. I get it is your opinion, but none of the background options were super unique.

Nigga we were kidnapped when we were a baby. The only people who would remember us even slightly is our birth mother, who might I had is like finding a needle is a fucking hay FACTORY dude.

>>1817084
This Anon has a point. The whole trained killer thing has been done and done. Give us a character with established depth, whose stakes we actually care about, rather than some fucking blank slate self insert. Here, we've got to build that shit up over the course of like, 40 to 50 threads, which is difficult as shit. You know how many threads Crusty had to write before Anons finally had a meaningful relationship with quasi ANYONE? I'm not fucking around it here it was something like 100+ Threads, over double the amount of sessions, and that's cause Crusty was fucking GREAT. Sleepy's gonna have to make this shit exceptional if we're going to be here for over 100 issues, all cause some anons wanted a character that not even a socially awkward 7th grader would find appealing.

I wish you the best of lucky Sleepy, but just know I tried to warn you bro.

Only the shitty ones that YOU choose are self inserts edge lord. The ones with no defining character traits other than "durrr I waz kidnaped as a child an trained ta kill for a corpotation! Feel sorry for my lack of depth as a person!".

Newsflash dude, characters both fictional and real have something called "agency". They're their own person, defined by experiences they take part in and decisions that they make. All you've done is contribute to this lack of any real person, and it's that attitude that'll make sure this quest doesn't break 13 threads. I'm angry cause faggots like YOU are what KILL original settings and interesting characters, and drive off any QMs that are actually GOOD.

Frankly it's patronizing. You're lecturing the writer on how things should be done like you know the objectively best way to run quest. Yet, you haven't exactly shown yourself to be an authority. Who are you? Have you run quest before? Where's your degree in creative writing?

It just comes across as you being a sperg. Reconsider your argumentative strategy.

Seems there's quite a bit of discussion about the MC going on here and I think I should say my piece/address it.

So some of you don't like the fact that a "blank slate" character was chosen. And while I feel your concerns are perfectly valid, I do think you need to calm down a bit. Were only on issue 1 here. Zee (I'll be calling him that for the sake of convenience) is a socially and emotionally stunted character so that it the reason why I offered him, and because his kind of character is a bit of a staple in capestuff. I thought he would be interesting by the merit of him not knowing much about the world, and that reflecting the players of lack of knowledge and make seeking out or receiving said knowledge feel more natural. On the the other side, him having the social skills of a 5th grader that almost never speaks is challenging and different for me as a writer. For Morgan, everything was painted by his own opinions and values. Zee will just kind of see everything straight up until he gets some opinions and values of his own.

I think that if you give it a chance you'll find that I have plenty in store for you guys to make Zee's development interesting. Although, you are right. I won't be quick. Gradual is the only change this kind of character should make. His speech patterns, the way he thinks about people and his feelings on killing aren't things that should change overnight.

However. With all that being said. I don't want to just dismiss the feelings of these players. But I also feel it would be insulting to just have a revote. Not to mention that it would be skewed no matter what I did simply because of the nature of the vote. So for now. I'd like everyone to lay their opinions out there. Are you satisfied with this kind of protag? Do you want to hear about what the other origins offered? Do you think these are problems that need to be addressed or are you in it for the long haul? Whether you agree with the majority vote or not?

Please speak up, even if you mostly lurk I wanna hear your opinions.
>>
>>1817508
I think what you did was a fine for the most part. Having fairly different origins is nice, though it may cut out people that were hoping for specific categories to win.

My biggest gripe so far is not being clear on what the mutation packages were exactly.
>>
>>1817508
>Seems there's quite a bit of discussion about the MC going on here

Not from me. I think it's to early to judge the MC.

>Although, you are right. I won't be quick. Gradual is the only change this kind of character should make. His speech patterns, the way he thinks about people and his feelings on killing aren't things that should change overnight.

Good more quest material and more for anons to work with. In other words it will be long and hard but that doesn't mean he will stay gorever as he is.

>I don't want to just dismiss the feelings of these players.

Can't please every body. And apparently it's only one or two anons displeased with the majority choice.

>But I also feel it would be insulting to just have a revote.

Please don't do it.

>Are you satisfied with this kind of protag?

Yes

>Do you want to hear about what the other origins offered?

Well i would like to bit i won't change

>Do you think these are problems that need to be addressed or are you in it for the long haul?

As you say is a blank character. I think this just gave us the players a longer time with the quest. Since we will try to get better at social skills and what not. I just hope you can manage to offer options that reflect this kind of character. My only advice is doing a VERY well explained vote or you give some kind of warning what certain choices may or may not influence. Because some anons have a difficulty in reading comprention.

>Whether you agree with the majority vote or not?

I agreed with the majority
>>
>>1817565
That is something i would like to know. Such things as. How do we acquire new mutations? Is it going to be a exp bar? Will we get point and use said points to open packages? Will we limited by the package? Exp: we can only use tought skin in a brawler package and we need to use the mutations avaible in said package?
>>
>>1817508
It was not what I was hoping for, but I'm ready to roll with it. I'm enjoying what you've done with it so far.
>>
>>1817565
>>1817586
Okay. I'll explain how your Mutations work in full.

Mutations are essentially new body parts that allow you new abilities.

When it's relevant, I will introduce the Mutation Store. There you can either buy new Mutations or bank the point(or points) earned.

If you buy Extra Arms, then you'll get a new pair of arms that allow bonuses for things like melee combat and multi-tasking. If you buy Membrane Wings then you obviously get the ability to fly.

The Mutations will also be separated into Major, Moderate, and Minor. These categories basically just lay out how much of an advantage they offer and how much they change your body structure. Major changes an essential part of your body, while Minor just changes a single part of you.

There are no "packages" with mutations. I'm not sure where you got that from. The choice I presented earlier with the Styles was just to give you a set of Mutations to work with that you already have.
>>
>>1817631
The styles earlier was what I meant. Granted I missed the vote anyways.
>>
>>1817631
Neet just checking how it's done.
>>
>>1817508
I caught up after the live run but weirdly enough, almost everything i would have voted for won, it was pretty sweet.
I think we should have kept sneaking when our handler and the merc were fighting. i honestly think anons just decided to help her cause she had tits. Cause if we gave a fuck one way or another we'd have helped in the earlier fight before that one.
Oh yeah, deciding not to kill that guy after we got involved seemed stupid to, like the players were using their own morality instead of the characters.
Would they know we had escaped if we'd killed him? i guess the answer to this would alleviate any problems with how that went down.
Still, considering how much the votes were going my way though, i don't think i can complain too much about that.
I've got no problems with the character or origins.
Keep doing you, sleepy.
You're doing great.
>>
>>1817928
I would have helped if they were a guy, just the nicest person we knew. My reason for voting to not kill was because he ordered us to, and no more taking orders from him. Just explaining my reasons so you don't lose too much hope.
>>
>>1817928
>>1817961
Basically my thoguhts on why we did what we did too.

The vipers were the corp mena ll over again, but the merc who was nice to us, was well nice to us.

And letting him live was because he wanted to die so badly. No ordering us around.
>>
>>1817508
Yes i am, I'm looking forward to see how Zee plays out
>>
>>1817508
>I don't want to just dismiss the feelings of these players
I already stated my opinion, but I greatly appreciate your taking it seriously. I know how frustrating it can be for someone to just go "FUKKEN DROPPED" for something you were always going to have done from the beginning, and that's not what I wanted to put out there.

>Although, you are right. I won't be quick. Gradual is the only change this kind of character should make
That's my real issue. It's not that I'm unwilling to stick with a story for a long while, it's just that I've done this "building the blank slate" before so many times it's just not interesting to me anymore, and I don't want to do it again. I'm just plain burnt out. And if Morgan had been a blank slate, I would've felt the same about Metahuman.

All that being said, I don't think you should have a revote. That'd just be a shitshow and you'd lose far more players than little old me. I'm just a guy with an opinion. But I want you to know that opinion so that you can understand and get a better sense of what kind of readers are out there, and how to write for a particular audience. I do not want you to think for a moment that I'm calling you a shit writer or anything. Post for post you're certainly better than I am.
>>
>>1817508
I've got no complaints desu
>>
>>1817508
It'd be cool to have a flashback sequence showing what the MC was like on his missions and shit like that so he seems like less of a blank slate though
>>
>>1818276
he'd probably still be a blank slate.
Orders and killing after all.
Would probably show more about our handler and the organization than it would us
>>
>>1817508
I'm satisfied with this kind of protagonist, as long as there's real character growth to be had. All that being said, what would the other origins have offered? Now that you mention it.

OK so

>Corporate Scion
Choosing this would prompt a choice of which billionaire is your parent. Your choices would've been, the CEO of Genesis Industries. A company responsible for fabricating a shit ton of mundane items that most people even give any thought. Like screws or coffee mugs or whatever. They are also the worlds leading authority on robotics and general mechanics. The CEO of Deckard Systems, a MAJOR software company. You can see why that'd be profitable. There are more but I don't wanna spill so much about the characters in the setting. Then you'd begin play upon leaving an award ceremony for your chosen parent and getting attacked in an assassination attempt. But this wouldn't be the first time. Then you'd begin your senior year at the most prestigious school in the country.

>Boom Orphan
From here you would choose who had been your unofficial guardian for the last several years after you lost your parents in the blast. You would've had choices between a tough lady bartender, a gang boss with invisibility powers, an abhuman detective, and a gruff and hard on his luck PI with two kids of his own. From there it's be up to you to decide how too live your life. If you wanna get off the streets, rule them, or just live a normal life again.

>Living Legacy
First you'd have to decide who your fallen parent was. I'm not gonna give any of those away, I'd rather they come up naturally in the quest. But you'd have about 8 choices of heroes and villains and others not so easily classified. A ot about your starting position would change based on who you chose. From there you get to live with being the son of a famous abhuman and decide if you wanna walk in their footsteps or not.

>Just Some Guy
By default you'd be going to the same school that Corporate Scion goes to. From there, you'd choose what reputation you have at school which would determine some primary characteristics of the MC. Then you'd go through a day there, and learn just how ABNORMAL(im sorry) it is. Then you'd go home and choose how much family you have. Then however you live is completely up to you, if you aspire to be a hero, have dastardly plans, or just wanna survive your last year of school.

I just tried to makes sure they all offered different things and didn't overlap too much at all into each other. I made them in such a way that you're never forced to be or are automatically Hero or Villain.
