You sure? You don't have any Illusion skill right now which you need to cast it. You also wont be able to afford the armour that some anons wanted to buy last episode.

Holy shit, we really are an one trick pony. Ask if he has some cheap books that will raise proficience in other schools like illusion or knows where we can get something like that
>>
>>1810876

That's a good point. Hey OP, could you detail which school of magic each spell belongs to?

Some thing like:

...

Specialization isn't a bad thing anon. Better to be a master at one thing than a jack of all trades...
>>
>>1810907

Nothing against specialization, but unlike videogames where you can plan your skill tree with anticipation knowing what kind of stuff you can use, we are going blind here. And some of those spells sounds so useful that it is a shame we can't get them due null aptitude with their school.

Alina happily agrees and you teach her some basic abjuration. As you're quite skill in the art you are able to teach her much more than you were when you instructed her in archery.

Eventually the vegetables come again and plunder the farmer's cabbages. You shadow them after they flee. They obliviously lead you to some sort of cave in the hills. To broccoli stand guard at the entrance.

You strike your opponent fiercely for 9 damage.
The broccoli tries to stab you with its spear but misses.
The broccoli fails to hit you with its spear.
Alina misses with her bow.

You unleash a power attack but miss.
The broccoli tries to impale you but fails.
The broccoli attacks you with it's spear puncturing you for 1 damage.
Alina misses her shot.

You try to hit the broccoli in the head but miss.
The broccoli laughs "You call that an attack? THIS is an attack" and then misses.
The broccoli makes an attack against you for 1 damage.
Alina notches an arrow and strikes a direct hit against a nearby rock.

You try to hit the broccoli in the head and score a critical hit crushing through it's defences and dealing 32 damage, turning him into a vegetable.
The surviving broccoli misses, petrified by its friend's fate.
Alina attacks the survivor but misses.

>"The people of Uthain have a somewhat ... unpleasant history with magically engineered servitor races. I'll tell you about it after we're done here. Come on let's go find the vegies' leader"

You move unseen to a more open area. A crowd containing dozens of Vegetable men crowd around a single figure. A vegetable man with a pumpkin for a head. He stands in front of a patch of soil, sunlight shines down from an opening in the cavern and resting on the soil are the recently stolen cabbages.

"Brothers rejoice, for the hour of our victory is at hand!"

Alina states: "That pumpkin headed guy sounds like the magic emporium's shop keeper."

The pumpkin continues, gesturing to the cabbages before him. "When I free these warriors from the immobile form the cruel humans have trapped them in, our army will at last be large enough to sack Leefside! And with that fertile farm land we will be able to free even more warriors and claim our rightful place among the civilisations of the world! The future belongs to us vegetables!"

The crowds cheer. You're not sure you have what it takes to take on this entire army...

10-16 damage, instant hit. Of course you have to succeed in casting it. Which you probably wont seeing you have 0% Evocation skill.
>>1810876
>>
>>1812875

Right. Well, there goes that plan...

Mhm. What spells do we have which belong to the Abjuration school of magic?

Could you also list each spell's function? I'm sure I've asked you to do this before, but for the life of me I can't find the descriptions in the archives...
>>
>>1812882
ABJURATION (I)
Alarm (Rigs a small area with an alarm)
Endure Elements (Protects user from harsh environmental temperatures)
Hold Portal (Seals something that can open and close, shut for a short period of time)
Protection from Evil (Increases AC vs "evil" things, many arbitrary categories can replace "evil" when casting this spell eg: protection from good, protection from the french.)
Shield (increases user's AC, deflects magic missiles)

EVOCATION (I)
Magic Missile (magical projectile attack)

Is casting a spell is quite a noticeable act. Will the Vegi-men take notice if we cast a spell?

What other limits are there on casting spells? Mana points? Spell cooldowns? Stuff like that?

I promise that these will be the last obnoxious questions I ask, before we get back to the game...
>>
>>1812896
>Is casting a spell is quite a noticeable act. Will the Vegi-men take notice if we cast a spell?

Not in this situation, casting a spell does have audible incantation but the vegemites aren't paying attention.

>What other limits are there on casting spells? Mana points? Spell cooldowns? Stuff like that?

You need 10*spell level of the appropriate skill to attempt casting a spell. Your chance to succeed casting a spell is skill-(spell level*10). At a skill level of 190% You will always succeed casting even 9th level spells in normal circumstances.

>I promise that these will be the last obnoxious questions I ask, before we get back to the game...

Of course I don't mind. If you want clarification you should feel free to ask anytime.
>>
>>1812900

I don't think we can take out dozens of vegi-men in a straight fight e, even with shield and protection from vegetables. I mean, we're pretty beat up after fighting about half a dozen of them. I originally planned to collapse part of the cave to thin their ranks, but I don't believe we have the means to do that.

So, we'll do the next best thing...

>"That's not too far off actually. Their armor is made of a strange metal alloy arranged in reinforced plates and are usually covered in powerful sacred litanies and holy enchantments. Speaking of which..."

(In a relaxed situation with a lot of time you would be able to "take 20" with spell casting but time is running out so you have to roll.)

You begin casting Protection from Evil on Alina but half way through you wonder if the vegetable men are actually evil and lose your concentration.

>>1816510
You cast "Protection from Vegetables" on Alina and succeed.

"Oh let me try and use the techniques you taught me!"

Alina casts shield on herself (she needs to roll under 50)

Alina casts shield on you (she needs to roll under 50)

You have enough time to roll for one more spell before you have to leave.

You cast shield on yourself

>>1816548
You don't have that spell. Your spell book contains:

ABJURATION (1)
Alarm
Endure Elements
Hold Portal
Protection from Evil
Shield

EVOCATION (1)
Magic Missile

You leave to join the captain on the battlefield.

I've got to head out now, so this will probably be my last contribution for tonight. Thanks for running OP...

You meet up with the captain and three of his veteran guards. They've taken a position at the top of a hill.

>>1816600
You stretch before the battle. Wouldn't want to pull a muscle.

>"So, how do you feel? Ready for the bloody business of the day?"

"Bloody? I was kind of hoping there would be no human casualties. I guess that probably wont happen. I mean I saw that corpse back in Appleby but I've never seen someone die before."

The vegetable army advances from the low ground. Behind their lines is the pumpkin headed sorcerer. At his side are two hulking potato headed men. Your vanguard and there's are facing off, to the sides other mobs of vegetable men are preparing to charge teams of guards and militia.

The captain turns to you and says "I currently intend to hold position, I'm a guard captain not a general do you have any tactical ideas?"

>"Just like you said, hold the line. I doubt their charge will be fierce if they're running up a hill. Attack whatever enemy approaches us"
>"Just focus on the weak ones, the veggies seem to surrender easily after a few of their allies die"
>"You and your men handle the rabble, Alina and I will take care of pumpkin head and his bodyguards."
>"Ignore the soldiers, throw everything at the pumpkin"

You instruct Alina to target the pumpkin, the veteran guards all have crossbows and agree to use them to attack the pumpkin until the enemy reaches melee range.

>"Just focus on the weak ones, the veggies seem to surrender easily after a few of their allies die"

"Alright, but I want the entire army routed, not just the enemy vanguard. If i have a shot at their leader i'm taking it."

The vegetables all scream and yell and start charging. The Pumpkin and his body guards don't charge and hang back.

Your archers fire a volley at the pumpkin but one of the hulking potato men stand in the way and takes all the shots, shrugging off the damage.

The Vegetables make a feeble up-hill charge, 6 enemies engage you.

I'm ending the session here. Thanks for playing everyone. I'll continue again in 6 days at the usual time I start a thread.

(Sorry if the combat seems a little uneventful. I swear the veggies have a 25% to hit you they're just very unlucky.)

Thanks m8. A called shot is when you target a specific body part for an attack. It reduces your chance to hit but increases your chance of a critical. Critical hits behave differently depending on the body part hit. The critical here >>1812754 would of caused a knockout effect if the target had survived.
