You are James Baker, a wild card according to the mysterious figure known as Igor. After living in Birchland for some time you discovered "The Rift" with your friends. The Rift has been causing people to act like cliches and sterotypes.

After putting down the mysterious figure that was maintaining The Rift, you sought out an exit. Sadly the exit came in the form of another open Rift. The exit rest in a campsite surrounding a large stone tower, which in your world is in front of the People for Humane Animal Treatment local HQ.

People inside are for sure being effected, your source confirmed that. The source turning out to be Carson's usual assistant, Natalie, is worrying. From what you can tell they also have something drastic planned, but what could it be?

With all the eyes on your, you clear you throat. "Well someone from our school, Natalie, confirmed there was a change in behavior. She's also going to our way to find out more, because it sounds like they are planning something drastic."

"Sadly I was unable to get any information. The people were either busy making posters and signs or just sleeping," Trish says as stretches in her seat.

Zoey turns around in her seat to you, "Wait, blond hair, too nice?"

"Yeah, you could describe her like that," You reply.

"She's a goody two-shoes, what is she doing with these people?" Zoey asks half to herself.

"Actually I have some questions before we continue," Martin interjects.

You motion for him to keep going, so he continues. "One, aren't they going to notice us driving here all the time? And the bigger one is what about Natalie? Like won't she get changed too eventually?"

There is a moment of silence as the thought sinks in. Your eyes drift to the other side of the car to the entrance of the P.H.A.T building, if she got changed there goes your only lead. Zoey groans, "Just what we needed."

"Are we just going to tell her to stop doing her activist work and not explain why?" Martin asks.

Trish looks up and down the street from her seat, "Maybe there is another parking lot shes parks at, these streets are awfully full."

Of course there is always the one option nobody is saying. After entering The Rift and awakening a Persona you all weren't changed, but can you really just do that every time you want someone to be safe? From your spot you see notice Natalie wave back to the building and starting to walk your way.

>Wait and watch, The Rift may not even do anything.

Jumping out now might just make her even more suspicious of you. All you can do now is wait and maybe do something if The Rift reacts to her. The others notice your looking and join in.

"We would help her if something happens though, right?" Martin asks.

You nod, but as Natalie walks right by The Rift nothing happens. She hops into an environmentally friendly car and drives off. Looking back at the building you see a group of young women walk out, but this time The Rift reacts.

Smoke billows out of the tear between worlds, the group carrying on their conversations like nothing. Before you can even get out of the car the green smoke swirls around the girls and pulls ghostly images from them. As the smoke and images are pulled back in, the woman slouch more as they walk.

Zoey is the first to break the silence, "That was fast. They all just changed like that."

"But why didn't it react to Natalie's presence?" Trish asks, unable to pull her eyes away from The Rift.

"It-It must have been how many there were. Like back in the auditorium. If only we could have warned them..." Martin says before trailing off.

The rate at which those girls were changed is stunning, scary even. That has happened to who knows how many people? Zoey starts the car up again as you contemplate the experience.

Pulling the car out of the parking spot Zoey adjust her mirrior to get you and Trish in it, "I'm not in the mood for dealing with more of this shit tonight, so let's just get back to the school."

The drive back is almost silent, nobody knowing what to say. It is in the middle of rush hour by the time you get back to school, but at least the parking lot is mostly empty. When you get out of the car you feel like you should say something to the others.

>Whatever made these Rifts is going to pay.
>You need a group name to call yourselves.
>Leave getting info out of Natalie to you.

You turn to the others who are still getting out, "We are gonna make whoever made these Rifts pay."

Zoey opens the top on her car with a holler, "That's what I like to hear! Enough moping, we are gonna kick some ass."

"And don't worry about Natalie, I can get info out of her," You explain.

"Well if you need any help just say so. We got your back man," Martin says as he tucks his phone away.

"Oh also, we should make a name for ourselves. I just feel like it would be a good idea," You say as you grab your bag out of the back seat.

Trish grabs the duffel bag at the same time, "A name? I'm not sure we have much use for one."

But Martin has a smile stuck on his face, "Oh I got one! What about Rift Delvers? It sounds cool and makes sense."

Zoey rolls her eyes at his suggestion, "What about something not lame? Like Freedom Fighters."

"I'll just support whatever you three decide on," Trish says as she starts to put on her riding equipment.

At least the others are on board with the idea, even if Trish might need some convincing. As the sun gets closer to the treeline you have an idea or two that the others might like.

Taking a second to look down, you have a text from Carson. Apparently he will be busy again tonight, so you will be on your own.

After thinking for a minute on it, you come to a conclusion. "I'd say Freedom Fighters is a pretty good name."

Zoey throws her arms up, "Hell yeah!"

"Well then we are The Freedom Fighters," Trish says with a smile.

"No hard feels then, later everyone," Martin says as he walks off to his car.

"Stay safe on the roads. They say it is suppose to rain heavily in the morning tomorrow," Trish says as she heads off to her bike.

With just the two of you there Zoey taps you on the shoulder. "Thanks for the vote. Let me know if you wanna hang out some later this week, but I need to get home tonight."

You walk back to your bike as the others all drive off. It is only around 7 now, so you still have a few hours before you need to get home. You doubt anyone from the gr- Freedom Fighters will be available.

With night fast approaching, you hop on the bike and pedal off to Birchland Army Surplus and Coats. Thankfully your bike has reflectors so you don't have to worry about getting ran over even as you get onto the busier roads connecting and going over highways.

As the suburban streets give way to sidewalks and office buildings you are reminded of home again. Long nights in traffic with your parents just trying to get to dinner, waiting on the bus to get to school, but you can't dwell on the past right now. Partially because what you are doing now is important and partially because stop and go traffic with a bike is stressful.

Eventually you reach the otherwise empty store's parking lot and lock your bike to one of the bollards. The shop looks the same as the last time you left it with guns, coats, various weapons, and other military gear lining almost every inch. Andy looks up from something behind the counter as you walk in. "Evening James. What can I do for you?"

"I'm just here to look around and see if I can afford anything," you admit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JqpKbnk4e4

Andy nods before going back to whatever he has behind the counter. It seems like the stock hasn't changed much, but you might get use out of something here.

Curren Funds: $156.50
$20. The trench knife looks like it would be better than just your hunting knife.
$25. The first aid kit sure came in handy before.
$15. A helmet has served Martin well so far.

The selection is pretty limited, same as before. Nothing else catches your eye as useful in The Rift, but the store must carry more. Andy doesn't seem to be paying much attention to you as you browse, maybe you could talk to him about something?

>Ask Andy about what he has back there.
>Could you get a look at more heavy duty stuff?
>What does Andy do in his free time?
>So what about those lessons he offered the other day?

With money to spend you grab one of the medical kits and approach the counter. "Could I buy the trench knife?"

There is a click and Andy sets knife in question on the counter. "Is that all you'll be buying tonight, James?"

"Yeah, but I was wondering. What do you do in your free time?" You ask as you hand over the money.

The man stands up from his seat and runs a hand through his short hair. "Me? I'm usually down at the range, here, or home watching some TV."

You take the knife and tuck it into the free cover that came with it, "Well what about those lessons you offered me?"

"Well speakin' of that, funny story. I knew I knew you from somewhere. Now I can't think of much of a reason for you and Trish to lie about being cousins, but I'm sure you have some."

As you try to get a word in, Andy continues. "Now cousins usually would have made some kind of introduction, wouldn't they? Also why would you be buying a trench knife for paintball? Now I might be jumping to conclusions, but I'm just curious. Why lie about it?"

The man looks down at you with a serious expression. You aren't sure what he is thinking, but he managed to figure out the lie already. Can you really tell him the truth?

>It would be awkard for student and teacher to go hunting together so you figured a little lie wouldn't hurt.

You nervously grin as you try to form an excuse. "I'm interested in the military and she was just concered about my well being as one of my teachers."

Andy crosses his arms and keeps looking at you. "Okay that was a lie. It would be weird for a student and teacher to go hunting together. We figured a little lie wouldn't hurt."

He is still eyeing you suspiciously, but he sits back down. "Well I can understand something like that, but Trish never talked about hunting before unless it was with her dad. But if Trish just made friends with a student or two I don't really care, not all people your age act like punks."

"So are we cool?" You ask, wiping sweat from the side of your face.

"We're cool for now. Also those lessons still apply, a friend of Trisha is a friend of mine. Because between you and me, she doesn't have many," Andy says with a smirk that you aren't sure is a sign he is kidding or not.

You share a slightly nervous laugh with the man as he pulls out a bag for your first aid kid. As he hands the bag over a familiar voice echos in your head...

I am thou, thou art I...
Thou hast forged a new union

Together thou shall open the way
that leads to a better tomorrow

With aid from the Heirophant Arcana,
support and loyalty shall follow.

With nothing else to do at the store you head back out into the night. At this point by the time you get home you should be able to get enough sleep for tomorrow. No sign from Carson according to your phone, so he must still be busy.

By the time you finally get home your legs are feeling the burn from pedaling most of the night. For dinner you just make a sandwich. As you finally sit down your Great Uncle sends you a text that he is on his way home, but you are beat and head off to bed around eleven.

In the morning you jump out of bed and get yourself a quick breakfast. Carson apologizes that church business had him so busy as you scarf down a bagel. Once you are out the door you bike off to school.

The day goes by fairly quickly, no surprise questions or difficulty assignments from teachers. Once lunch rolls around you meat up with the others in your usual spot. At lunch Zoey doesn't seem to pay her old friends any mind, instead just talking with you and Martin.

Other classes fly by as well, but when study hall rolls around you hear an unexpected voice from the doorway call your name. Mr G.

You leave Martin with the last few problems of homework and walk over. Photography class has been peaceful since Jake and other students returned to normal.

The well dressed man takes a few steps away from the door and speaks in a low voice, "James I was just walking by and felt I should remind you about the project that is due in a little over a week. You haven't even set up a time to use the camera."

>You didn't forget, but have just been busy. You will geet it done before it is due.

"Well how many other students have done it?" You ask, curious.

Mr. G leans against some lockers, "These aren't yours are they?"

You shake your head, "No. My locker isn't on this floor."

The teacher signs in relief, "Phew, also most of your fellow classmates have gotten it done."

Well you can't put off this assignment forever, "Sorry about this then. I forgot about it, but can I do it today after school?"

Mr. G gives you a thumbs up "Sounds great! You know where the photography classroom is, so just come over when you are ready."

With that taken care of you head back to your seat as Mr. G walks off. "What was that about?" Martin asks.

"Well I have to take care of something for photography before I can do other stuff today," You say as you start on the homework again.

Martin, already done with his homework, asks a question, "Say, you ever wonder where Tr- I mean Ms. Brown is during Study Hall? I mean I know she is grading papers, but she isn't in the room she says she is."

The question sticks on your mind as you finish up the last of your assignments. It is weird how she lied about where she would be staying. You also take the time to text the others about your photography assignment, but only Zoey responds. As class comes to an end you...

>Hurry to Mr. G's room to get this done quick.

Instead of heading to the parking lot to the others you go up to the second floor. After fighting your way through the herd of students leaving school, you reach the photography classroom. As you walk in you see Mr. G hang up a phone on his desk.

"Heeey there James!" Mr. G says as she rest his feet on his desk.

"Hey, so I just need to take some pictures around the school?" You ask, not exactly remembering the assignment.

Mr. G places a hand on the camera on his desk. "That's right, I'll be following you just to be sure you don't mess up the camera on accident."

You nod and walk over, looking over the camera. Mr. G takes a few minutes to explain what the various buttons and zooms do on the camera. Picking it up, you look through the lenses and test a few settings.

"So then James, do you have an idea of a location you want to take a picture of?" Mr. G asks as she stands up.

"I was thinking about backstage from above. Like from the catwalk," You say as you put the camera strap around your neck.

Mr. G claps his hands and grins, "Aaah the threatre! I should be able to get us back there if the drama folk are busy."

The two of you walk back downstairs and to the backstage door. From the sounds of it there is something going on inside, but Mr. G just walks inside. "Sorry folks, but we will taking the catwalk for now!" he yells confidently.

You see a group of twenty or so students in a circle on the stage. A man with slicked back hair in an oddly bright shirt walks over to Mr. G and you can hear them whispering about something. After a few minutes Mr. G motions for you to follow.

As you walk past the circle you have to ask, "What was that about?"

"Just a little negotiating for space, now climb on up there. I'm gonna stay down here juuuust in case you drop the camera," Mr. G says as he leans next to the ladder.

Climbing up the ladder brings you back to your previous adventures in The Rift. What would the school be like if you didn't stop it? You lay down on your chest and take the camera in both hands. Where The Rift once was is now nothing, but air.

Looking through the lenses, one shot stands out to you. In a snap you capture one of the students doing a strange pose while reading as the others around her have amused expressions. Once you are back down on the ground Mr. G takes the camera from you. "This is good, that's all. Go live your youthful life."

"Thanks for letting me do this so suddenly," You say as you run back to the others.

Outside you see the others all chatting around Zoey's car. Martin waves you over, "So do you have a lead yet?"

"Sorry, I haven't really seen Natalie around much." You say, head hanging low.

Trish places a hand on your shoulder for a second before pulling it back, "There is no need to worry. It has only been one day, but what should we do for now?"

Everyone is looking at you expectantly, "Maybe we should just wait until I can learn more from Natalie at school? We don't wanna rush into things if we don't have to."

"Sounds good. I got a thing I gotta do anyways," Zoey says as she starts her car up.

You back away from the vehicle, as do Trish and Martin. Trish turns back to the school, "I have some papers I missed grading, but I shouldn't be too long."

When you look to Martin he shrugs, "I'm free. We could head over to my place with my mom busy today if you want."

The clouds overhead start to rain, causing Zoey to put her roof up. "Later!" the girl yells as she drives off.

With so much rain a puddle would be pretty easy to find, but you do have quite a few friends you could hang out with. You could even go investigate on your own if you wanted to risk it. Trish waves you and Martin off as she runs back into the building.

"I'm going to pass, but later have a good day Martin," You say before walking to your bike.

"Yeah you too!" Martin calls after you.

When you hop on your bike you shoot Sam a text about hanging out. In response you get a series of emojis. A girl running, a car, a book, and a store. You think that means to meet her at the big book store.

You wish the forecast mentioned rain today, but it didn't. You bike through the rain, glad for the lights of cars to reflect for you. The rain starts to let up as you finally reach the chain book store. After chaining up your bike you walk in and see Sam with a scarf wrapped up by the entrance.

She runs over to you and starts to ramble,"Oh hey there! Wait, you were the biker on the way here? Oh gosh I'm so sorry I didn't realize you didn't have a car."

"It is no big deal, really," You insist.

"If you say so. Umm, what did you want to do here?" she asks, avoiding eye contact.

There isn't much to do at this store, but you can work with it. "Maybe we can grab a snack and talk then look for books together?"

"Ooh, I'll try their coffee then. It must be really good on a day like today," Sam says excitedly as you walk towards the raises cafe.

You let Sam order a small coffee and muffin first, getting a light snack for yourself. After grabbing a table you nod to Sam, "Thanks for coming on such short notice."

"It's no problem. This place is pretty cool compared to that stuffy old store." Sam says with a smile.

"Didn't you like your store?" You ask before taking a sip of water.

Sam wipes a few crumbs from her face, "Well I used to, but then I saw what it was like here. When I'm not on shift I usually come here, the people here are nice and don't mind me either."

After finishing your small meals you set out to the main floor for books. Sam seems to gravitate to the fantasy section, with no real interest in leaving. You see a few common titles like BattleMace 5k, Ballad of Earth and Sky, and RoundPlanet.

You also notice a pair of people looking over and whispering when you look around. They two walk out of view when you make eye contact. Why would they be whispering about you?

Sam has a pair of books in her arms when she finally says something that isn't "they have this?" or "oooh". "Sorry for staying over here so much, we can go look at books you want."

"So you really like fatasy? Guess I'll get one too." You say as you reach down to grab a book.

"Wait take this one!" Sam says as she pushes a book into your hand.

RoundPlanet: The Shades of Magik. It looks like the book will be an interesting read. "I just wanted to make sure you started on the right book," she says quietly.

"No problem, let's go check out some more books though," You reply as you take the lead.

In the mystery section you see tons of smaller books you never heard of and classics like Sherlock Holmes. As Sam and you are walking down the aisle, she stops and looks to her phone. With a frown the shorter girl sighs, "I have to go now. But this was really fun and I hope we can do it again sometimes."

You didn't manage to grab a mystery book, but you know some are here now. "No problem, let's go check out then."

The two of you get through the checkout line fairly quickly and with the booked bags you head to the front door. "Thanks again James!" Sam calls back as she runs to her car through the rain.

If you want to afford more of anything you need a source of income that isn't Shadows dropping money in The Rift. Out of the job offers you remember the one at the gas station seems like the best one. Thankfully your legs have gotten used to working so much, because now you need to go all the way past your current home.

After riding out of downtown and past the school you stop by the house drop off your books and to grab a jacket, since the rain not looking like it will let up any time soon. Without bags to worry about you cycle down to the gas station. With your bike chained up you grab the small flyer and walk inside. The middle aged woman at the counter looks you over, "You here for the job kid?"

"Yes I am, Rhonda," You reply after quickly looking for her nametag.

Rhonda sighs and points to a door at the other side of the gas station, "Well talk to Theo in there."

You follow her directions and find yourself in a small office. An older man is sitting at a desk typing away, but as you walk in he turns to you. "So you are looking to apply for the job here? Take a seat. I'm Theo, the manager of this here gas station."

"That's right," You say with a nod.

Theo starts to shuffle some papers in his desk around, "Are you a highschool student... what's your name?"

As he places a pile of papers in front of you, you reply, "James Baker, and yes I am."

"Well then James, fill these papers out. I also need to know if you have any prior work expierence and if you are alright being called in suddenly. Your usual hours would be Saturday and Sunday from Noon to Four pm."

There is a lot of personal info you need for these papers, but you can do it. The question is do you really want to commit for a job on the weekends that you might need be called in for? The papers covers what you could expect working the cash register, cleaning, taking out trash.

>No previous exprience, but you are ready to get some.
>You mowed some lawns. That should be enough, right?

The many summer days you spent helping neighbors that didn't want to pay for lawn care services come to mind, "I've mowed some lawns. That should be enough, right?"

Theo nods and takes the papers from you after you fill them out. The man extends a hand out to you, "Well James welcome to the team. You'll be starting this Saturday with some training."

You shake his hand with a grin, "Glad to get to the job."

Theo goes back to his computer with a tired expression, prompting you to leave. Rhonda is busy with a customer as you leave, and you notice a ragged looking man looking at the door on your way out. With that taken care of you bike back home, not really up for biking around more today.

On the way back home the rain finally stops, sunlight shining through the clouds as they break up. As it happens, your home and the church happen to be in one of the clear spaces.

Something odd you notice is that two cars are parked in the church parking lot, one is Carsons, but the others is only faintly familiar. Digging through your memory you try to place the car, then it hits you, it's Natalie's!

Carson and Natalie are probably discussing plans for the church, but this might be you chance to talk to her without too many people around.

>Just go in and try to ask her for a private conversation.
>What are they talking about in there in the middle of the week? It wouldn't be too bad to try listening in.
>Maybe you could wait for Natalie to come out?

Maybe listening in on them wouldn't be a bad idea. You're just curious about why now of all times?

You park your bike to the side of the building and creep up the steps. Carefully you peek through the crack between the doors and don't see them, so you move further in. From the narthex you can hear their voices. You lean against a wall and keep an ear out, listening in.

"I can assure you I won't tell anyone. Your secret is safe with me no matter what," you hear Carson say.

You can barely hear Natalie's voice speak up, "Okay... I'm scared about the others working at P.H.A.T. Some of them are really intense and extreme recently."

There is a pause before Carson replies, "Well if telling me about this will help you, go on ahead. I won't tell a soul."

"This might sound crazy, I've told them it is..." Natalie stops before continuing, "But they won't listen. Some of the people want to go and let all the animals out of the Lynchburg zoo!"

"W-Well that is rather serious. I'm sure the zoo staff and authorities wouldn't let it happen though." Caron says, clearly taken aback.

"They said one of the staff was willing to join the cause after walking them around the headquarters." Natalie replies.

Carson lets out a loud sigh, "This is rather serious then, but I won't tell anyone. Only you can Natalie."

"But this isn't like them! I'm sure I can talk them out of it!" She shouts back.

"Then do so. Be the shepdard to your own flock, as I am to mine." Your great uncle says back in a calm tone.

There isn't any more speaking, but you hear steps coming closer. There isn't anything to hide behind where you are, but if Naralie walks by she might see you.

>Stay right where you are, maybe she won't look back?
>Run out the door before she can see your face!
>Be on your phone. You just wanted to see Carson and didn't didn't hear anything.

As the steps get closer you slip your earbuds in, getting some music playing on your phone. You start to bob your head to the music just as Natalie walks by you. However, her eyes do catch you. "James? What are you doing here?"

You gulp and take out your earbuds, "I was just hear to see my Uncle Carson. Didn't want to disturb whatever you were talking about so I just put on some music."

Natalie nods slowly "Oh, well if you say so. You're sure you didn't hear what we were talking about?"

"Nope. All I could hear was this song I've got going," You say with a shake of your head.

Your great uncle walks over, stopping when he sees you. "Oh good evening James! Natalie you are welcome to have dinner with us tonight, but I understand if you wish to eat at home."

"He really is your nephew? Well if it isn't too much of a bother..." She says, looking at the floor.

Carson smiles, "You don't mind, do you James? We can talk about what you wanted to right now if it's important."

"No I don't mind," You blurt out.

"Perfect! I think tonight is a good night for tomato soup and some grilled cheese, you don't mind that do you Natalie?" Carson asks as he joins the two of you by the door.

The girl sighs, "I'll just have the soup then."

All three of you walk outside, Carson leading the way. Natalie gives you a few strange looks as you walk your bike back to the house. Once back inside Carson heads straight to the kitchen,"The bathroom is at the end of the hall. Make yourself at home."

With Carson in the other room Natalie takes her shoes off by the front door and takes a seat on the sofa and motions for you to come over. A bead of sweat rolls down the back of your neck as you follow her to the living room sofa. "So how much did you really hear?" She asks in a whisper with a frown on her face.

>No really, you didn't hear anything.

Now isn't the time to panic. This is exactly what you wanted and you can't throw the chance to get more info away. You put on your best serious face and whisper back, "Enough to confirm my suspicions. I can help you, but you have to trust me."

"Your suspicions, how long have you been thinking about this?" Natalie asks, leaning away from you.

"Long enough, now will you trust me?" You ask.

Natalie bites her lip and thinks it over for a few seconds. "Fine, but if you call the cops or anything I'll..."

You speak up as she starts to trail off, "I won't call the cops."

"I mean you are just a high schooler like me. How much can you do?" Natalie asks as she twirls a lock of her hair.

"Soups on!" You hear Carson say from the kitchen.

Well there goes your chance at questioning for now. Around the dinner table is a bowl of soup for everyone with a few slices of grilled cheese for you and Carson. You wait for the two of them to say grace before starting to eat.

Dinner conversation is fairly normal, asking about classes and such. Carson and Natalie talk about the church's plan for a food pantry for those not well off. When dinner is over Natalie writes her number down on a piece of paper for you. Your great uncle insist on doing the dishes on his own tonight and Natalie makes herself scarce.

Once she is out of the house you get a text from her number reading, "I can tell you more after school tomorrow."

As the night drags on you don't think you can bring yourself to do much else. With a full stomach you get ready for bed and pass out.

>9/21 > 9/22

The next morning is another cloudy day, but you can't let that get you do. You've got your connection for finding out more about P.H.A.T. Sadly you can't go through the day smoothly, in Science you are called on by the teacher.

"Now Mr. Baker, can you tell the class who is credited with the modern periodic table?" He asks as he strokes his beard.

You take a few seconds to recall the book, but you have a name. "Dmitri Mendeleev," you say confidently.

Mr. Hall smiles, "Well I see someone does their reading, correct."

Maybe your memory is better than you thought, you feel your BRAINS has grown. Math flies by, and at lunch you let Martin and Zoey know about your meeting with Natalie.

"Well good luck man, once you talk with her give us all the info." Martin says after finishing his lunch.

"Yeah and then we can start kicking ass again," Zoey says with a sinister grin.

The rest of the day flies by, but you still don't know where you are actually meeting Natalie. As the final bell rings Martin wishes you good luck again. You check your phone one more time and finally see a message from Natalie, "Greenhouse."

With a sigh you head out across the parking lot to the school's greenhouse. It doesn't seem to be in the best of shape now that you are close to it. Inside you see Natalie alone, watering some plant you can't identify.

"Alright. I'm here," You say to announce your presence.

Natalie jumps and nearly drops her watering can, but turns to you with a serious face. "So umm, here is how we are going to do this. You can ask me as many questions about P.H.A.T as you want, but I get a question in return."

You can't say you expected that, so it might be best to try and ask as few questions as possible. It isn't like she would believe what you told her anyways.

Time to finally get some answers for your questions,"Okay first, when did this all start happening?"

Natalie turns to the plant before speaking, "Well I noticed some of the others around the headquarters were acting strange when I got back from my camping trip last week. The weird part is more and more people are acting up too. The plan was first talked about three days ago."

"And when do they plan on letting the animals out?" You ask.

"The plan was for doing it the night of the seventh. I don't know what they plan to do after letting the animals out though." Natalie ends with a sigh.

"Alright." You pause to take a breath, "Do you want to help stop them?"

"Stop them? You aren't going to do anything to them, are you?" She ask in a nervous tone.

You shake your head, "No, but they can't get away with this. So what are your questions?"

Natalie takes a couple of minutes to think up some questions, but eventually she turns to face you fully. "Okay! One, who else are you working with besides Ms. Brown? Two, why are you staying with Preacher Carson?"

There is a pause, Natalie grabbing something around her neck you can't see. "Three, what are you going to do to stop them?"

>Tell her about Martin and Zoey.
>It is just you and Ms. Brown.

"Well there are two others right now, Martin Tyler and Zoey Quensted. We are all gonna work together," You explain.

Natalie has a look of faint shock on her face,"Oh, alright. I used to be friends with Zoey way back in kingergarden."

You sigh before answering the next question, "As for why I'm staying with Carson, my parents are going through a divorce."

"Oh I'm sorry for asking!" Natalie says as she covers her mouth with her hands.

You probably should get used to pity like that."It's fine. And to stop them we are going to hang out around the Zoo to try and scare them off, they wouldn't do it with people around as witnesses."

"Oh, that might work. And nobody will get hurt from that either. So thanks I guess James. Stay safe..." Natalie says before going back to watering plants.

"Stay safe too," You say before going leaving.

With your answers taken, you have a deadline. You can see the others still in the parking lot as you exit the greenhouse. Walking across the empty parking lot you hope the things will go smoother. "So what's the deal James?" Martin asks.

"They are going to take out the animals from the Lynchburg Zoo late on the 7th, so we don't have too long." You explain.

"Break the animals out? I suppose they are an animal rights group." Trish contemplates aloud.

Zoey leans back in her driver seat, "I remember doing something like that with a class pet back in elemntry, but that Zoo has some real dangerous animals in it."

As everyone thinks it over you hear shouting behind you in the otherwise empty parking lot. When you turn you see Natalie running over.

"I... want to... help scare them off too..." She says between breaths, hair covering her face.

"Scare them off?" Trish asks you with a raised eyebrow.

>Yeah, scare off PHAT from the zoo. Your plan.
>About that Natalie, it was a lie. If you want the real plan she should come along.

You look back to the others and shrug, "I'm sorry Natalie, I lied, we aren't going to scare them off."

Natalie pauses fixing her hair and stares at you. "What? Why did you lie?" She asks in an angry tone.

"What we're doing is dangerous, but if you still want to see come on and we'll show you." You explain.

"We will now?" Trish asks.

"James said he would tell me what you are going to do, so yes." Natalie says as she walks over to Zoey's car.

The others all look at you for a few seconds, but everyone gets in as Zoey raises the roof. "Maybe talk to us about this next time." Martin suggests.

"I'm surprised your going along with this," Zoey says as the car starts to move.

The back seat is somewhat cramped with Trish between you and Zoey. "Well I doubt any of you would do something bad or violent," Natalie says as she looks around the car.

Martin turns to the back in his seat, "Well whatever happens you need to promise to not tell anyone."

"I promise," Natalie says as she does a cross over her heart.

Eventually Natalie realizes where the car is going as you get closer to the PHAT HQ, causing her to squirm in her seat. Zoey brings the car to a stop across the street, Rift glowing behind the bushes. "Wh-What are we doing here?" Natalie asks.

You point across Trish to the bushes beside the building. "Look for something that isn't there," You explain.

Natalie squints and stares at the building, "Excuse me?"

Trish pushes your hand out from in front of her. "Look for a crack that is behind the planted bushes," She says.

Natalie's eyes go wide, "What is that? D-Did you slip me with drugs on the way here?"

"Calm down Natalie, that is a real crack," You say quickly.

"Yeah, how would we all see the same thing on drugs anyways?" Zoey asks.

Natalie's breathing starts to slow down, "B-But how can that be real? I've never heard of anything like that before, it looks like more than just some paint."

"That is The Rift. It's like a hole to another world that is linked to our own. If too many people walk by it they get changed into stereotypes," You explain to the best of your ability.

"But that doesn't make any sense, this can't be real. I must have having a bad dream," Natalie says as she runs a hand over her face.

Zoey sighs and reached back, pinching Natalie on the arm. "There, awake yet?"

Trish puts a hand on Natalie's arm, "I know this a lot to take in at first, but you have to believe us."

You nod in agreement, "This is what is changing the people here at PHAT."

Natalie nods along with you, but she seems out of it. "How do we fix them then?" She asks.

Martin speaks up next, "We go in there and find whatever is keeping it open. Once The Rift is close everyone goes back to normal."

"So are we going in now?" Natalie asks as she turns back to the window.

"We might as well, but it is dangerous in there," You warn as you scratch the back of your neck.

"Maybe we should hang back and let her go in with just one person close so she doesn't get, you know." Martin suggest.

"Good point, you stay back here with James and just watch for now." Trish says as you all get out.

Zoey locks her car as the she crosses the street with Trish and Martin. With the empty sidewalks all three of them vanish into The Rift. Natalie looks like a deer caught in headlights, "This really is real, isn't it?"

"Yeah, now let's go." You say as you walk across the street with her.

No mist is pouring out, which is a good sign. "I just reach in and it takes me there, right?" Natalie asks as she closes her eyes.

"That's right, just relax and reach out," You say as you guide her arm to The Rift.

As her hand goes in, you reach in too. Everything goes green as you fall through The Rift. When everything comes back into focus, you are laying down on the ground, the sky blocked by what looks like cloth. Beside you Natalie is sitting up slowly, "Where is this?"

"Welcome to The Rift!" Trish exclaims as she burst in, wearing her plague doctor outfit already.

Natalie jumps back as you stand up fully. "Have no fear, it is just I, Ms. Brown," Trish explains.

"Call her Trish!" Zoey yells from outside.

The blonde girl slowly gets to her feet and takes a few deep breaths. The three of you in the tent walk out to meet up with Martin and Zoey, with the tower looming over head. "This is huge..." Natalie says in awe.

Martin elbows you and motions to the now visible marks on your hands. You notice the key brand on your hand has a chain and serpent intertwined attached to it now. "So Natalie, there are a few things you need to know." You start.

Atticus slowly start to fade in behind you as you continue, "We have these kind of ghost spirits that help us out here called Personas. I'm special in that I get to have multiple, but I'm not really sure why."

Natalie's legs start to shake at the ghostly, bird like man behind you. "H-How in God's name did you get a spirit bound to you?"

"Well we all have one, we got them by... facing really dangerous situations and confronting our bad thoughts," Martin says in an attempt to help.

"There are also these things called Shadows that attack us in here that are kinda the bad sides of other people. Beating them doesn't hurt anyone though!" You say in an attempt to soften the blow.

Natalie steadies herself by grabbing something around her neck again, "Okay. Okay. Okay. I think I've got it now."

You motion to Trish, "You also might want something to defend yourself, she can help you with that."

Natalie nods and goes into the tent across from your entrance with Trish. Zoey tosses you the bag with your gear in it. It takes a minute, but you get back in your jacket and gas mask. It seems like Zoey is sticking with what she has, which might be dangerous. When Natalie walks out she is holding a spear?

"I figured I could put the one by the previous camp to use," Trish whispers as Natalie awkwardly holds it.

"So umm, what do we do now?" Natalie asks as she walks over to the group.
