/qst/ - Quests

Titans Quest, takes place in the DC universe and focuses on Teen Titans team. In particular it focuses on you, Adam Issacs, a new member of the team who has been active in the cape community for a little over a month. Currently you have been given an extremely minor leadership role with in the group. As the quest goes on you might remain on the team to as a mentor or even leader, move onto the Justice League, or go solo either as a hero or villain. Maybe you’ll fuck up big and wind up drafted on the Suicide Squad. You might even save the world here and there, maybe even land a date land another date.

The Titans are a New York based team of former sidekicks/young adult heroes who have decided to help train and support teenagers/new heroes just starting out on their own. Naturally while this quest is based on the DC comics universe, things are different. Superheros haven been around since forever, especially since WWII, but the Justice League has only been around a little less than ten years. The Teen Titans, have been active now for eleven months and are a little obscure except to news hounds, New Yorkers, and super hero fanatics. On the broader scale, a lot of big villains and heroes haven’t made their debut. Darkseid and the rest of the New Gods are a mystery, Trigon is a myth, and Booster Gold is still a washed up security guard a couple of centuries into the future.

Welcome to the New Age of Heroes

You have no idea if you should be smiling and offering hand shakes or remaining stoic and presenting a passive dignity, but you know for a fact that’s not what’s happening. You’re knees are shaking, your mouth is dry, and your voice honks out in different tones and pitches every time you can find the strength to open your dumb mouth. You can’t really blame your self too much though, a lot of first times happened today. First time you fought a demon, first time you went to space, and the first time you get to meet the justice league. You might be in the same line of work, but this is an entirely different league than you operate in.

You’ve seen Black Canary twice now...but the Flash and Green Lantern. Hell even the more obscure ones like Doctor Mid-Nite sent a shiver down you’re spine. They had all reached the summit of the mountain you wanted to climb. Just...damn. A lot of the heroes you (thought) grew up looking up to and idolizing were all here.

Green Lantern had the Deathstroke and the Clown both contained in an all green glowing replica of a cell block suspended in the air, complete with facsimile prisoners and a short stocky prison guard twirling around a billy club. The Clown seemed amused in his furious way as opposed to you, but Slade didn’t bother to emote any emotions. Whether it was because he was out of it or put up a tough facade you didn’t know. Mr Terrific followed behind him about three steps, opening and closing a continuous hallway of transparent doors for him as he did so. Doctor Mid-Nite and Black Canary chatted with Nightwing and Artemis, playing a combination of friendly catch up and an actual debriefing.

Leaving you all ignored for now in the hall way. Well hey, at least Power Girl and the Flash where there and free

“Two ambushes in one night? You’re positive that these two events are unrelated? It seems this Spawn character is connected to Slade at least.” Black Canary says, her hands on her hips and her gasping in frustration about the absurdity of this. A monument to being frustrated as hell but stubborn enough to continue pushing that boulder up the cliff anyway.

“Oh come on Dinah, I know for a fact this has happened to you and Ollie alone twice. Remember when the Royal Flush gang robbed the bank the very night Count Vertigo was trying to assassinate Ollie? These people tend to schedule well. Poor impulse control.” Artemis says, sighing herself

“Besides we already know the link, you just said it. Spawn...actual name probably Al something, probably had a career in the military, had a grudge with Wilson, just like Wilson did with Adam. Then the Clown comes in. New York isn’t Bludhaven, but it isn’t a family friendly city anymore Dinah. Part of the reason I put Titan’s headquarters there.” Nightwing says. More than a little boredom was starting to sink into his voice.

“Oh, hello Adam.” Mid-Nite says interrupting them all in a cheery voice. “You have anything to add? We know at least one of them was gunning primarily for you?”

You guys should probably bring up the clown's connection to Trigon. Ideally, Raven should have the opportunity to tell the League about her heritage, but she doesn't seem to be taking it seriously.

“Slade and the Clown aren’t connected. You’re barking up the wrong tree. Slade and Al served in the arms forces together, you got that from me already but have a longer history. I didn’t bring this up, because I thought Al might have just be crazy from what I know, but he and Slade worked for the CIA, FBI, you name it together. Then some dude named Wynn got involved, and both of them think that Wilson murdered Al. The Clown is just some stalker of Al’s or an actual demonic intelligence handler sent from straight from hell to manage Hellspawns in the upcoming war against Heaven and Earth Works for something he calls Trigon in this attempted scheme to conquer the world.” You say as the group just stares at you. “That’s kinda why I left that conjecture out.”

“Well, it’s the only lead we got. Besides wouldn’t be the first time we fought with or against ghosts and demons. Charles just be sure to fax me the Clown’s medical reports and I’ll be sure you get a copy of Slade’s pal’s military record. If it even exists.” Night wing says, rubbing his eyes with his thumb and middle finger in a rotating pattern.

Black Canary just throws up her hands as Doctor Mid-Nite exits the little grouping you formed, only stopping to nod at Dick as he does so. She looks at Dick and you like she would a pair of flat tires. You can’t exactly fault her or forgive her either. I mean yeah it sounded crazy but she fought with Gentlemen Ghost on at least 3 separate occasions. Skepticism has to end somewhere, you aren’t some bozo from off the streets

“Dinha, what is this so hard for you to believe. You got Etrigan the demon on SPEED DIAL.” You say raising an eye brow.

“Too many coincidences happening at once. Everything up to the Clown showing up I can believe. I get none of the vibes I get from Etrigan either. I mean they both have bad senses of humor, but demons are usually getting bullied around on this plane of reality, not the other way around. He doesn’t even rhyme.” Black Canary says. “Though I admit, this wouldn’t be the weirdest thing that’s ever happened since I put on mom’s old uniform.’

“Well at least I dragged that out of you.” You say with a sigh. “ Hey Artemis, did Slade try anything when we went to fight...whatever the hell that was?”

“I don’t know. He didn’t move whatsoever...but all he did was look at all of you on the monitor and ask if Al worked with us. Speaking of vibes, man I got a bad one.” Artemis says, looking for you a little disappointed, a painful grimace briefly appearing on her face if only for a bit.

“Don’t feel bad, he’s slippery.” You say, shrugging your shoulders and leaving. You always remember hoping to get a good look in the Watchtower. This had turned into a great golden opportunity for you here. Maybe you’d get a chance to get Hawkgirl’s autograph!

Out side of light bright greys and lights, there seems to two really big reoccurring themes in the design of the Watchtower. Spirals and circular shapes. Almost no traditional stairs existed in this place, just elevators and a slowly descending and rising floor work. It made your head hurt a tiny bit thinking about it but that’s artificial gravity for you. Men and women in light brown or purple uniforms formed small groups of three or four and skitted around the entire facility, through the same floor you did, obvious subsections to your sides and hidden compartments you never noticed even you curiosity rivaled that of a certain cat and tried too see all the marvels and wonders this place presented to you. You have no idea if that a plus or negative in the design of that thing.

You look up towards the ceiling and even see directions and markings for you. To your side was the cafeteria, and when you look you see three bored people in uniform chewing at they’re food and a red/black box sitting alone on a table. Weird. If you go down a bit it’s lead to the gym, where you’d be sure to run into someone. Take a left just short of the gym and you’d wind up in a processing area. You could see a bunch of cool things there maybe.

You decide to head to the gym, it was the most likely place to find new heroes after all. When you get their though, you can’t help but be mildly disappointed. The place was practically empty, which did make sense. Heroes weren’t coming here to chill all that often, they were here to coordinate in between missions usually. The place even looked pretty drab too, with no posters or decorations or any equipment you hadn’t seen at Titan’s Tower training room, the only thing putting apart from a hall in the wall gym being a the wall and panels out of a sci fiction film.

You do notice three heroes here however. The old man with greyhair was Wildcat, Ted Grant a former undefeated heavyweight champion boxer turned caped crusader, his physqiue more impressive than Bane’s when he wasn’t using the venom. His blue eyes twinkled even when his body was fully straining itself and his face changed into a prune has he pulled down hard on about five hundred pounds off some exercise machine. A Japanese woman in a typical sports bra and pants routine was running as fast as a treadmill would let her, her face completely stone compared to Grant’s. Couldn’t place her without the mask on. The third was someone you were very familiar with, and you would still be even if you hadn’t met her before.

“Hey Adam!” Wonder Woman yells, a smile spreading through out her face as she dropped a pair of specialty dumb bells she was handing from her side of the gym, which oddly had more of the panels and weird walls than the rest of it. She moved quicker than you ever could and swopped you up in a nice polite hug. “I didn’t except to see you here so soon.”

“Well I just dropped off Slade.” You say with a smile, prompting Diana to slug you softly on the shoulder and smile even wider.

“Good job. That’s the type of burden everyone here has had one time or another but usually don’t resolved.” Diana says

“Get hunted down by a super assassin?” You ask.

“Or a psychotic clown. We all got archenemies who want our heads more than anything. Comes with the job. You want to come spot me?”

“Sure.” You answer before glancing at the Japanese woman. “I’m sorry I don’t know if this is rude, but who is that woman? Can’t really recognize her without the mask.”

“Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana” Wonder Woman answers. “Only time Bats and I agreed on anything, but Superman didn’t. If Batman isn’t paranoid but you are, it kinda tells you that you’re barking up the wrong tree. In any case watch your step.”

“What?” You have time to ask before almost dropping to the floor as what feels like a ton drops right on your back and then across the rest of your body. You struggle for a minute and then manage to slowly lumber forward. You look at Wonder Woman eyes as wide as saucers in surprise.

“Artificial gravity, we can manipulate it perfectly. This is about ten times Earth’s gravity...you sure you can handle this?”

Man, common gravity already fucks with us normal humans, imagine 10 times that.
You'd need to have the proper skeletal structure, the proper musculature, the proper cardiovascular system to fight against this level of gravity.
Not to mention how gases would behave in this environment.
A normal person would probably have all their blood pooled to their bottom, normal hearts be damned.
Thankfully Adam was built with stress testing in mind.
>>
As you move the extra weight on you make all your movements slow, wooden, and awkward like you had just been placed into the body of a poorly articulated action figure. You are almost tempted to just create a gravity field. But you accept the pressure on you, knowing it won’t be something that you could just adjust to and feel normal, but something you can work with. You wobble around, each movement deliberate and planned. Diana smiles at you, a little worried at first, but it winding around to one of good fun.

You almost cry when you release she’s doing about 250 before you factor in the gravity, but quickly find that you are up to the task. You adapted well in here and could easily bench what Diana is right now, and might not even break a sweat. She kinda is...maybe...nah. How many sets had she done before you got here? 3? A dozen? Twenty six? You’ve seen this woman stop a skyscraper from falling over, but still.

“You want to change places?” Diana asks, wiping off a handful of sweat from her brow as she did so.

“Nah, hey you are the Goddess of War and one of the best hand to hand experts in the world….you want to spar? I could learn a lot.” You ask, causing Wonder Woman to laugh.

“Your funeral kid.” Ted Grant said while strutting towards the ring, not even bothering to glance at you. Though you did notice a smile on his as he did so. Old men seemed to get a lot of laughs out of younger guys getting their ass beat. Which is funny because you didn’t say you thought you’d win, after presumptuous of him...but who knows you might.

“Alright. I’ll you where you go wrong.” Diana says, leaping up from the bench as she did so in one fluid motion. “Be sure to tell me where I went wrong, we can all learn from mistakes. Feel free to use your powers”

You think that last comment was sarcasm or condensation from the smile on her face and the way she flicks her tongue into her cheek, but she’s kinda earned it. She’s Wonder Woman after all one of the big 3. You barely just half made it into the Justice League.
The ring you head towards, it’s nothing special, outside of the logo of the Grant’s old gym plastered in the middle, featuring the titular wildcat growling at the celing. The ring was white and with simple bright red ropes and buckle cushions. It even looked slightly grimy, like the help hadn’t gotten around to cleaning it. You didn’t except the Watchtower to look so...lived in. Things wore down even in the heavens, even in the stars rings weren’t the ones they used on tv and we a little drab.

Ted stands in the middle of the ring, formally waving you both at bay, while Diana prepares in her corner. Jumping up and down in the middle of the air, stretching her arms widely and spinning them as did so. She did the standard bends and squats, while Ted approached you, even cracking his neck and stretching as he did so.

“I want a clean fight here. Diana has done this for years, so I know I don’t have to...” Ted starts, before you wave him off politely.

“I get it, I’ve done boxing. I’m not some asshat off the street. This is a learning excerise.” You say, which just causes Ted to shrug.

“Just don’t be a sore loser.” Ted says.

Wonder Woman leans on her ring post, and sighs, staring dead at you with a happy smile on her face.

You just raise an eyebrow and motion for her to come to come get some. Wonder Woman gives you a short bow and smiles again towards you. Something ignites in her belly for not falling for it and you almost regret not rushing in. You move fast. You’re eye move faster. But Wonder Woman is the fastest of the three, just becoming a blur as she rushes you and lets out a barrage of blows.

Almost being the keyword, you happily bop along and dodge then incoming strikes. She might just be a blur, but you just needed to avoid it. Plus you’re training with Black Canary and fights in real life life had taught you to read footwork and posture. Wondy wasn’t bothering hiding it, which was a mistake you planned on reminding her of later. You almost crack a smile until one of Wondy blows destroys the top of a turnbuckle and makes it rain fabric and steel outside the ring. Well Ted kinda had a point.

The dance continues for awhile but eventually it’s Wonder Woman who wises up, she starts feints and throwing off fake bends and turns to try and disrupt the pace you’ve built in avoiding her. One clever mistep almost costs you completely, as she pretends to go right only to rush to the left for a powerful kick, that just misses your face by less than centimeters. With the power of the blow, Diana is sent wobbling into another corner, with her armpit towards you.

You reach out with your mind’s eye and flex the universe to your will, forming and shaping a small gravity field over the ring post Diana found herself trapped in. Sure enough, as soon Diana gets to her feet and before she turn and face you, let alone resume her result, she is sent flying hard into the turnbuckle, crushing a cushion here and there. Hell you swear you see the damn thing wobble back and forth a bit. Diana turns to face you, the smile still on her face, just twisted in defiance and obvious self reflection over the mistakes she had just made.

You planned to either get her to smile in awe or drop in fear.

You rush towards her in two bounds, acting less like a man or even a bullet being fired off but a predator cat in the Savannah about to pounce at their prey. You swipe at her three times before she can even turn to start blocking, slamming two good blows right into the ribs and one into the face. She she turns she starts trying to trade and parry blows. She fails on the former, her body just too off balance from how she landed twice and the pull of your gravity field and disoriented from your punches to delicate parts in her mid section. She still manages to start catching up to your rhythm though and starts blocking some of your blows. Her jabs starting to come closer and closer to landing.

Enough of this. You bring your knee up to her belly, sending her keeling over as you throw out another knee to her face as it’s coming down. Her head slams back into the turn buckle and you smile, as Diana’s eye close and a large painful grunt escapes her. In the periphery of your vision you see Katana drop what she was doing and approach ringside slowly. Your gaze returns to Diana’s as they flutter open.

A grin of someone just winding down from a hard day of work into pleasant task fills her face. One of saying excited but going to take their owned damned time doing it. But they’re going to do it very well. Diana licks a line blood coming down from her nose and cracks her neck.

“Enough foreplay pretty boy, let’s get down and dirty”

Wonder Woman didn't so much as rush towards, as dance towards you. It was reminiscent of the footwork of a boxer but was too refined and elegant to even be compared to that. A beautiful and terrifying blur edging towards you.

You shouldn't be surprised, she is Diana is Wonder Woman after all, one of famed and feared caped heroes in the world. Still you thought you had her for a second, what avoiding her, finding an opening and delivering a good shot, and then add in clever use of your powers...you're career honestly had been kind of easy when you think about.

Diana continued to dart towards you, her arms extended behind her in the wind up of what you assumed to be one hell of a punch.

You hop to the side of Diana just as she unwinds her punch, watching the power of it as it headed towards where your stomach was. You have that blow would have either sent you to your knees or flying to the other side of the ring. It wouldn’t have ended the fight but it would have turned the tables. And you still think, given the coy playful look on her face, Wonder Woman was holding back. You don’t bother following up or trying to take advantage, you just circle around her and wait.

Diana whistles and stands back up at full height, taking her forearms up towards her chin, her knuckles rolling back in forth in front of face like she was kneading a loaf of invisible dough, the pose of bare knuckle boxing. Her stance was totally of that of a boxers now but her postured was still tensed in the manner of a wrestler. The smile she had since she left the turn buckle just remained the exact same though, that of serene bliss.

She continues to almost float forwards, throwing out blow after well time and excuted blow, but you always just manage to slip away. And just barely, she’s fast even if she exuding more effort here, each strike percise even when it misses. You just barely managed to find a way out each time, almost falling or throwing yourself into roll every time Diana does so. Still it’s her that manages to slip up again, darting a little too close the ropes and without a means to dodge with the grace she had before, letting the motion of her previous movement carry her too much, making her too slow to respond, and letting your foot to get more and for it’s buck when it slams into the small of her back.

She doesn’t even fall entirely, just slam onto a knee she bounces back up on almost as soon as it hits the mat. The smile never even falters for a second.

“Hey want to make this interesting? Why don’t we add a wager to this? I knock you down for ten second, you owe dinner. You knock me down for three seconds...well you come up with something.” Wonder Woman asks

“Sure” You answer, shrugging you shoulder. It made things interesting, a meal was a meal even if you had to pay more, and Diana seemed cool. Plus you were having dinner Wonder Woman. Bragging rights forever. And if you won one of the three big honchos owed you one!

Once again Diana rushes towards you, this times her arms extended into the world’s most awkward and painful looking hug, going low and pouncing towards your body. Thunder goes off on the mat when she does with as fast she’s going. You might be okay with dining with Wonder Woman but it seemed like hugging her was a very bad idea. Something programmed into your brain gave you an estimate that getting out of her grapple would be almost as difficult as pain from it. Sometimes you didn’t mind being born in a H.I.V.E lab.

You brace you knees either into a dodge or an attempt to meet Diana head on, eyes looking into her’s. They were still filled with good humor, but of a raptor also in the middle of the hunt. She was waiting for you too damn it.

You create a gravity field on top of your fist, root yourself deep into mat, and throw your punch with everything you have. You know this blow could stop Bane if it landed, you know your stance is good enough to withstand a rushing grapple from the likes of Black Manta, but you also know you aren’t fighting them. You’re fighting Wonder Woman the Goddess of War, and she’s much, much worse.

Diana low stances allows her to use her knees to jump out the path of your fist and right into you chest this time. Her leftfore arm wraps around your chest and starts lifting you, as she spins her self to your back with two quick hops for her legs and the wraps the second arm around completing the hold on you. Well, this wasn’t good.

Diana lifts you high above her and then jumps herself to add even more air to the blow, you noting she could even flown to make it worse. She drops on hard right in the middle of the shoulder blades, sending a storm of lightning bolts to erupt throughout your backs nerves. You try to let a out a breath or cry but it feels like it’s all been shoved in right from your chest to your belly it hit you so hard. But Wonder Woman isn’t close to down and lands not only onto of you, knees straight into your back, ensuring the storm is going to clear up anytime soon.

Wonder Woman shifts her self on top of you, grabbing the back of your pelvis with her two thighs and your head in between one of her heavily muscles arms and one perfect pillowy breast. You enjoy the view even as she pulls your head and pelvis back and gives you agony in places you didn’t even know existed inside you. She rolls your head up towards her and you notice her eyes are twinkling

“Give up? I like Chinese if your on a budget, but I know I great Mediterranean place.”

You reach out with your mind, and begin shaping the air around you like a potter. Melding, shaping and mending the raw force of the universe that always seems to be in motion even when you’re aren’t. Even with you blacking out you can find yourself doing it with little problem, if you have to get a little sloppy. It’s still a work of art.

The field forms around both of you, lifting both of up in the air. Diana figures out what is going on pretty soon even when totally zoned in on knocking you out but it’s a little too late. You manage to brace yourself to the sudden jolt the floor you create when rift another gravity field below you managing to crash on your knees. Wonder Woman slams down on the mat with her belly, the resulting impact sounding like sheet steel being slapped together. She still gets to her knees at the count of two though.

“Why Ms Prince, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were tring to pick me up!” You say sardonically, lifting your fists into the air.

Still want to see the pastebin about the HIVE discussing Adam's creation. A scientist that loves MMA and implanted a suplex complex, a pervert female that gave him massive dong and a wiki guy that gave all the data and info about the meta humans.

You rush towards Wonder Woman watching as she changes stances to allow her to use the full brunt of her upper body strength. She just didn’t wait for a grapple, she wanted one. She was one of the strongest people in the planet though and a trained Greco-Roman Wrestler. This was her fucking specialty and you were the novice. So much for it’s so crazy it could work.

It was much too late for you to back down, so you doubled down. You drove into her and tried roping your arms around hers before she could bring much strength to bare and limit hers. She brings up her hands in time and get into a hand grapple with you. But her sweat aided you, it allowed you to slip right through her grasp when she tried grabbing down on your wrist and gave you the perfect grip on her forearms. Her mouth opens completely agape.

“Welcome to Suplex City...ma’am” You grunt as you lift up for a body slam.

When Diana hits the mat, tidal waves erupt throughout the ring, sending you riding it like a surfer. The second time it’s like a bomb goes off underneath you, sharp backlash pain ripping throughout the front of you. It even sounds like the crack of whip. The third time, there isn’t one. Diana manages to land in the ring more like a ballerina, leaning forward into a powerful punch towards your jaw.

As Wonder Woman swings a powerful jab might toward you, you just manage to slip around her. Where as the previous strikes Diana’s combat style was nothing but grace and efficiency mixed together, this time you managed to outwit her and out do her in that important category. While Diana is making numerous and long outstretch poses for the opportunity to hit you, just shuffle your feet in short and in as little movements as possible. Wondy is just doing way to much for her to notice the quick shifting of your left foot that connects with her ankle and sends her flying out of the ring in a series of rolls and tumbles through the rope.

Grant runs to the exit and slowly counts to three while Diana half moans and laughs as she tried to find her feet. She manages to get up, but only on what would have been a count to 5. It was far from a decisive end but if you have to say so, it was a clever one.

Ted slap you on the back, while Tatsu nods once towards you before walking back to the exercise equipment. You can tell as much as she seems to be trying to be impassive and stoic she was impressed. You didn’t need guess work to tell that Grant was, he just kept shouting in ear friendly expletives, praise, and commentary on the fight. Apparently you had it and could make an amazing fighter one day. One day being the key word.

“You should have used more competitions of your gravity powers and not tried to get in a boxing match with her. One of the worst tactics you could do if this was an actual fight.” Grant started.

“Why? She’s a wrestler? I could try to strike her at all and wear her down, I didn’t want her to get a powerful slug in. She could hit like Superman and slam even harder.” You start “Plus it worked didn’t it?”

“I practice Pankration actually, if this wear a real fight I would have went for the balls or eyes when I got the chance. Nice job though, really didn’t think you’d win.” Wonder Woman said, flying into ring, nursing her back a little but not looking much worse for wear honestly. Wonder Woman looks up and down, even digging herself in for a close look and really examining your muscles and then were she hit you.

“You sure that you’re dating that witch girl kid?” Diana says whistling. “Anyway you’re good. I know I vouched for you but if anything I underestimated you. Well what favor do you want.”

R barely likes we make some fun play. But maybe if we develop more in the relationship we might start doing it with Starfire first.

“How about you help the train the Titans and me during the fall?” You ask, rubbing your chin. Sure they trained with Black Canary but getting a lesson from one of the Big Three? Dick wouldn’t be so special then, the rest of them could get that special thing rubbed off on him.

Wonder Woman just stares at you for a minute and than beams wide, putting a hand your shoulder and laughing like a she’d a kitten step on a few piano keys. You didn’t really know how to feel about the most beautiful woman in the world reacting like that too you.
“Really? You are a good guy Adam, you think of you’re family first. Alright sure...but I’ll have to take you out for dinner sometime if you want. Can’t have you being too good okay?” Wonder Woman says with a smile.

Well there was a lot more you wanted to do up here that you had the chance but there was something you had to do as well. Slade knew things and you knew that if anyone could get him to talk it would be you.
