You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

"Jeez, I swear that this place is getting colder every time we come back!" Johnston whines as she sneezes for the millionth time.

"I warned you to layer up." Heerman sighs, comfortably snug in a surprisingly stylish fur lined jacket. "We ARE sailing around in the Arctic, after all."

"It makes me feel too bulky." Johnston pouts.

"You're ALREADY too bulky." You roll your eyes, pointing to your sister's prominent torpedo bulges.

"Well fuck you too, Hoel!" Johnston sticks her tongue out at you.

"This is going to a be real long mission, isn't it?" White Plains groans as she counts her planes.

Well, you suppose it was a good thing that your sisters were accompanying you on this mission. In between the both of them was the tied up and drugged up Re-class Abyssal, all wrapped up like a present for the Stranger, who had showed an interest in her and promised additional assistance if you could capture her on His behalf.

What a fucking weirdo.

However, it wasn't just you and your sisters on this mission. The Captain has also seen fit to assign...

The Captain felt that you would need some heavy firepower on this mission, considering that anything was possible. So, he assigned North Carolina to accompany you, in order to allow the other battleships to carry out their own missions. Generally more recon and diversionary skirmishes to keep the Abyssals from noticing your small group.

You were sort of ambivalent about whether or not you should have brought Paz. On the one hand, her presence would have been pretty reassuring, given the raw firepower she was capable of outputting. On the other, you didn't really want her meeting the Stranger at all. The guy seemed like a bit of a creep. Plus, she was needed to help decode all that data Vahlen was able to pull out of the Re-class' head.

On the subject of the Re-class, there was the question of who would keep her secure while your small group was on the move. White Plains was certainly out, since she needed to concentrate on keeping her patrol planes up.

"Hey, Carol, ya think you can handle the Re?" You ask the battleship.

"Of course." North Carolina nods and takes the tow line attached to the restrained Abyssal. "I CAN blast her if she tries to break free, right?"

"Only if ya have to." You sigh.

"Man, who is this guy we have to see anyways?" Johnston frowns as snowflakes begin to flutter down onto the water's surface. "Sounds like a real creep."

"He is." You confirm. "And honestly, I don't really know either. But he's got spooky powers and knows way too much about all this shit."

"God, maybe?" Heerman surmises.

"Well, he's definitely a dick, so you might be on to something there." You nod.

"Pipe down, I think my planes spotted something." White Plains frowns as she closes her eyes. "Movement. Looks like a pair of Wo-class carriers with destroyer escorts. An air patrol squadron."

"Should we take them out? They might spot us." North Carolina cautions.

"If we sink them, then it's only a matter of time before the Abyssals catch on to our presence." Heerman points out.

"I can probably shoot down any scout planes that come our way, but that's also only going to buy us a little time." White Plains reminds you, her grip on her carbine tightening.

"Let's ignore them for now and keep moving." You say, checking your radar. Sure enough, you were starting to detect an unidentifiable signal source. No doubt from the Stranger himself, inviting you in to his lair.

Fortunately, none of the Wos' air patrols ever came across your path. It was just two Wos having to cover a massive section of open ocean, after all. Plus, you were noticing that there were fewer and fewer Abyssals out on patrol. Were their numbers finally starting to thin?

Or were they up to something else?

Either way, you still had a job to do. You continue skating over the half frozen water towards the rendezvous point, North Carolina and White Plains close behind while Heerman and Johnston brought up the rear. And soon enough, you come across a sold wall of white mist, too thick to see through.

"Is that it...?" North Carolina pauses.

"Doesn't look like a good place for planes." White Plains frowns.

"It's the real deal." You confirm. You look at the mist and take a deep breath before stepping through...

And the next thing you see is-

And suddenly you find yourself in unsettling and familiar territory. Black sand crunches underneath your shoes and the roar of waves fills your ears as a black beach, illuminated by dark moonlight, stretches before you.

"Is this place...?" North Carolina hesitates, recognition flashing in her eyes as dormant memories are revived.

"Are we in a dream...?" Heerman wonders.

"We've been here before... right?" Johnston blinks in confusion.

"This doesn't feel right." White Plains grimaces.

"Ah, your brought along a new bunch this time." The Stranger says, inexplicably standing behind you all, where you had just appeared. The fog wall was gone now, replaced by an equally endless stretch of dark sand and seawater.

The squadron instinctively arms their weapons, but you quickly wave them down.

"Now that's rude, pointing weapons at your host!" The Stranger shakes his head, more amused than angry. "Especially after all I did to make this happen!"

"Oh yes, this layer has proven to be quite the most convenient staging point to ship you all off to Earth after construction!" The Stranger nods and the pauses. "Oooooh, that was a sly one, Hoel."

"I do what I can." You grin smugly.

"Staging point?" North Carolina narrows her eyes.

"Well, this beach here isn't all that much different from your 'Dark Zone', really." The Stranger shrugs. "A bridge from our realm to yours. Though naturally the Abyssals got a little more aggressive with theirs... wait!"

The Stranger shakes his head rapidly before turning to you, his face still veiled in shadow.

"I believe you have something I asked for?"

"That's right." You nod to North Carolina, who drags the tied up Re-class to him.

"You can just leave here there." The Stranger raises his hand to stop North Carolina.

"Now time to uphold your end of the deal." You narrow your eyes. "You said you'd give us more intel."

"Ah yes, I did, didn't I? Though you might not like the answer..." The Stranger snickers.

"You're the one who orchestrated this war, aren't you?" You narrow your eyes. It made too much sense, given how much he seemed to know about both sides.

"Wow, that's some pretty strong language you're using there..." The Stranger chuckles. "I'm not exactly the one who caused this little misunderstanding per se, but I DO know who it came about!"

"Do tell." North Carolina grimaces.

"Well, I guess in the simplest of terms.... this all came about from a little 'disagreement' between two parties. One side believed in 'Essence' and the other in 'Form'. And, there's where my and my colleagues come in, to help facilitate proper conflict resolution!"

"Conflict resolution?" White Plains scowls. "You mean starting a war and getting countless people killed?"

"Straight talk, I never said these parties were nice at all. I don't even like 'em much either." The Stranger shrugs. "But anyways, you can say I'm representing the Essence camp. Essence, in short, is the belief that an individual's soul is the source of their strength. Now let me tell you, it took a LOT of effort pulling your souls out of the public consciousness to get you made. But, well, you turned out perfectly fine!"

You all look uncomfortably at each other.

"And Form, well... they believe physical perfect is all that matters." The Stranger toes the Re-class laying at his feet. "Perfect, infinitely reproducible and freely malleable bodies that can be made in mass quantity in any configuration. You can really crank 'em out but not quite so smart in the head."

"So what, this is some sort of cage match or something to you?" You fume.

"Well... more like a World Series, in your lingo." The Stranger shrugs. But let me tell you, we never expected you to go and make something with Form AND Essence! Really quite the shock!"

You had a feeling you knew what he was talking about.

"My bosses are so impressed, that they're willing to give your Pacifica a free ticket upstairs!" The Stranger says happily, pointing up. "Of course, this does require a bit of parental consent. So how about it?"

You're... you're still trying to process it all.

"You can go and fuck yourself." You grunt.

"Honestly, I was expecting that answer from you. But it was worth a shot, anyways." The Stranger shrugs, completely unaffected by your answer. "But hey, I'm not the bad guy here, and since you went though all this trouble for a selfish request like mine, I'll even give you a little freebie!"

The Stranger then takes out a paper airplane and tosses it at you. White Plains' eyes carefully track it as it slowly glides your way. You easily snatch the plane out of the air and open it up, only seeing a Byzantine scrawl of random numbers and symbols. Completely incomprehensible to your eyes.

"Once again, you guys pulled some serious magic and were able to download an Abyssal's memories into an understandable format! That code should help you crack the encryption, so that should speed things up!"

"Really..." You mumble as you slip the paper into your pocket.

"This guy is made sleazy." Johnston grumbles.

"Extremely." Heerman nods in agreement.

"Hey, what's with all this harsh treatment?" The Stranger asks, clearly hurt. "I go out of this way to give you all these goodies, and all I get are insults? Rude, I tell you!"

"What do you mean?" You frown.

"That Colossus the Abyssals are working oh so hard on? It's getting pretty close to finished." The Stranger explains casually. "Notice fewer and fewer Abyssals around? Well, they DO need a lot of spare material for the 'finishing touches'..."

Shit.

"And one more thing, a very particular Abyssal with a very big grudge is heading this way." The Stranger picks up the Re-class with one hand, dragging her away by the collar. "Just a heads up!"

Unfortunately, North Carolina turned out to be correct. The DD Princess was blasting forward at an unprecedented speed, and as usual, trailing behind her was a fleet of regular Abyssals.

Looking at the situation right now, there was no way to outrun the DD Princess. If it were just you and your sisters, maybe. However, with North Carolina and White Plains in the mix, that wasn't going to happen.

You had to turn this into a running battle. You couldn't afford to slow down or the rest of the Abyssal force would catch up.

"Everyone, keep moving, but start firing! Try to slow her down!" You bark. "White Plains, start getting bombers up in the air!"

"Roger!" White Plains nods as she aims her carbine in the air, firing off the entire magazine as helldivers take off.

Meanwhile, everybody else prepares their weapons. You check your own, and wonder if you should fire off your missiles. Given the range, they were the ideal weapon, though maybe it was best to save them...

Unfortunately, the DD Princess proved to be just as quick and lightning fast as always, boosting herself to such ridiculous speeds that your missiles simply can't maneuver quick enough to catch up to her sudden change in velocity.

However, the rest of your squadron was not just standing idly by. Guns from Heerman, Johnston, and North Carolina bark and roar ,while Helldivers swoop in for the kill.

The combined gunfire between you and your sisters prove to be ineffective, as the DD Princess is able to dodge and weave despite her insane speed, steadily becoming more of a red blur than an Abyssal.

Thankfully though, North Carolina and White Plains remain on point. A frighteningly precise salvo from North Carolina straddles the DD Princess, sending huge columns of water and ice fragments shooting up into the air, surrounding the DD Princess like prison bars.

Almost simultaneously, White Plains' helldivers drop their bomb loads, peppering the DD Princess with high explosives.

While the damage was minor, the did succeed in putting a halt to the DD Princess' momentum, forcing her to slow down. Now as you chance, but to do what?

Unfortunately, you barely even have a chance to get moving yourself when you feel a pair of arms wrap around your chest, and you realize too late that the DD Princess has ensnared you in her grip.

"Not... yet..." You hear her growl to you. "Settle... the... score..."

Shit, so she could talk after all.

"Hoel!" Johnston and Heerman yelp as they point their guns.

North Carolina likewise swivels her guns, but considering how close the DD Princess was to you, even the slightest miss could get you hit.

You can feel the energy buildup as the DD Princess roars in anger. In a fit of rage, she shoves you forward and whips out her guns, no doubt to shoot you.

But she never gets the chance.

White Plains' 5 inch guns bark and you see the bullet fly right over your shoulder, past your head, and slam into the DD Princess right between the eyes.

You then duck as North Carolina unleashes a massive point blank barrage, and the area around the DD Princess is engulfed in fire and smoke. You swear you can see the DD Princess catapulted into the air, landing a few hundred meters away with a loud SPLASH.

"Nice shooting, the both of you!" You grin, giving a thumbs up to White Plains and North Carolina.

"Just doing my job." The battleship shakes her head.

"Me too." White Plains nods.

You radar then pings, reminding you that more Abyssals were incoming.

You had to make sure the job was done. You motion for the others to get going while you circle around and head for the fallen DD Princess.

And there she is, floating in a pool of oilblood as her body is in somehow a bigger mess than it was before. Besides her already missing legs, her entire body was bloodied and cut up. Her RIg was in ruins, most of the weapons blown off or twisted beyond recognition.

All you can see the rage and hate in her eyes and face as she glares at you. Coughing up blood, the DD Princess attempts to crawl towards you for another attack.

"Kill...kill...kill..." She wheezes.

And you can't help but feel a bit sorry for her. A brief though of capturing her like you did the Re-class flutters through your mind, but something in the back of your head tries to warn you that it's probably not worth the effort.

There's no final words or gloating. Just a simple pull of the trigger, and the DD Princess falls limp, a 5 inch shell through her head and chest. You needed to make sure after all.

However, even then, you couldn't fully shake the feeling that she wasn't truly dead. Merely set back.

You don't have much more time to waste, though, as Abyssal reinforcements begin to get closer. No chance to completely destroy the body or take it with you. It was time to go.

You leave the DD Princess' corpse behind as you sail after your squadron heading for the Storm Wall. You're surprised that you feel a bit of pity for the DD Princess, and kinda hope she at least found some kind of peace in death.

But still, you had a job to do. There was a lot of intel you gained that you had to pass on, and you had a feeling time was growing short, not just for you, but for all of humanity.

We saw that the human body of the Abyssals isn't where their minds actually reside, and the Stranger said that they're products of the perfection of Form (mass produce replaceable bodies) faction.
DD Princess will just resleave into another body and laugh at how we're so tied down to a single irreplaceable frame.
>>
>>1852108
Yeah. DD Princess is coming back to try and kill us again. Even if she were turn into a regular shipgirl (which I think is impossible), she'd the type to constantly challenge us to duels-

"My name was DD Princess, you killed me once. Prepare to die!"

Baking contests-
"These cakes will bring me glory upon the naval base while you shall only earn eternal shame with your uncakiness thingy"

Staring contests-
"The first to look away must admit their inferiority!"
