Combat will get more interesting as Christof gains more combat skills, spells, and items. And faces stronger enemies.

You smash one of the cabbage heads with a critical hit scoring 45 damage. The vegie dies several times before its body hits the ground.
The mace wielder misses
The broccoli makes a called shot to your head. The feeble attack is deflected by your helmet.
The carrot tries to attack you with his dagger but misses.

You crush the broccoli for 23 damage. Felling him instantly.
Carrot misses
Cabbage misses

You smash the carrot dealing 27 damage with a satisfying crack.
The remaining cabbage brings down his mace in a decisive blow that surely would have been devastating if you had no armour. 3 damage

You counter attack for 30 damage. Compacting the cabbage's torso.

...

Although all its allies are dead. The beetroot continues to uselessly cast Magic Missle upon you. Easily deflected by your well practiced shield Spell.

For defeating your enemies in combat you gain 300 XP.
>You now have 725

>>1853337

You look around and observe the battle. The veteran guards and the captain are holding their own just fine. Alina is staying back out of melee range.

The militia and guards seem to be evenly matched.

The enemy leader and his body guards are still standing in the same spot as before. The pumpkin headed man seems to be casting spells on his own forces from a distance.

Magic is a pretty costly investment. Especially if you want to use multiple schools of magic.

Personally, I'd prefer we focus solely on building of proficiency with abjuration, for its defensive benefits. While also building our conventional combat techniques up for the offensive side of things...

You attack the sword wielder for 11 damage felling him.

Captain hacks the potato's arm for 5 damage.
He returns the favour with his halberd doing 6 damage.
Ardin watches and waits anxiously.

You take an opportunity to hit the enemy, a solid hit for 16 damage.
Captain performs a power attack doing 14 damage.
The potato attacks the captain for 6 damage.
He attacks again for 3 damage.

You strike the potato for 18 damage finishing him off.

You give his kneecap a visit to doctor hammer. He wails with pain as you take the hollowed out pumpkin off his head.

"MY LEG!!, look what you've done you ogre! You, you brute!"

The captain speaks over him "Huh so this twerp is the source of the violent veggies? You've caused us a lot of trouble. I'm placing you under arrest, and count yourself lucky that knee is the only thing that's broken."

You look around and see the remaining vegetables be routed by the townspeople.

"Thanks for your help Christof, I'm not sure the mayor will give you a reward for this, but stop by the garrison and I'll compensate you for what you've done here."

You visit the shrine of your patron god Edis. This artistic depiction of him is different to the statues you're used to in Uthain. But he still has a raised shield and his hand on a sheathed sword as you are used to.
