/qst/ - Quests

>You are Kirai Kodomo, Jounin of Konohagakure. A veteran of two shinobi world wars, you were assigned a genin team by the Third Hokage in a poorly thought out decision. After having nearly started an international war during your team's first C-rank mission, you used the resultant ban from taking part in C-ranks as an opportunity to further prepare your team for their greatest challenge yet: the Chunin Exams.

Session will begin momentarily.

OP image is Kirai. Thank you to the artist and the commissioner, credit in the filename. I didn't comment on it before but I really like it.

“I recommend Team 8 for the Chunin Exams.”

“Kirai-san, your enthusiasm is understandable but I have yet to even ask for recommendations,” says the Hokage, who then takes a characteristic hit from his pipe.

“What? You can’t be serious!” shouts a chunin-wait, that’s your brats’ old instructor. You really see too much of this guy. “They’ve only been genin for a few months!”

To your surprise, Kakashi leaps to your defense.

“With all due respect, Iruka, you don’t know what our students have managed to accomplish since they were in your class. Rookies or not, they’re ready,” he says, then turns to face the Hokage. “I recommend Team 7 for the Chunin Exams.”

“Understood, Kakashi, but once again, I have yet to ask for recommendations-”

“I recommend Team 10 for the Chunin Exams,” says Asuma, smirking.

You don’t know what sort of daddy issues the younger Sarutobi has, but he must have some, as he seems oddly appreciative of jokes at his father’s expense. In response to the interruption, the Hokage sighs.

“Alright. All three rookie teams will participate in the Chunin Exams.”

“Thank you, Hokage-sama,” you say, smiling.

After some more discussion and recommendations, the Hokage dismisses you. On your way out, Asuma stops you.

“You seem awfully happy right now, Kirai,” he says, “Don’t tell me you’ve gone soft because of your team?”

“Of course not. However, I am eager to gauge the effectiveness of my training. With any luck, my team will leave yours in the dust.”

“I’m not so sure about that. I’ve been training them hard too.”

“Really? I find it hard to believe that. How do you convince a Nara to train hard?”

“With great difficulty.”

“I see. Still, I don’t think they can hold a candle to my own genin.”

“Don’t underestimate Team 10, Kirai. You’ll find out what they’re capable of in the exams.”

“Sure. Here’s hoping that they make for worthy enemies.”

“Enemies? A bit melodramatic, don’t you think?”

“The Chunin Exams do involve genin-on-genin combat, Asuma. And I made sure my team knows how to handle a fight. Not to copy you, but you’ll find out what they’re capable of in the exams as well.”

“Looking forward to it,” says Asuma. He then gives you a brief nod of farewell.

Alright, now it’s time to inform the brats what they’re getting into.

“I’ve recommended you for the Chunin Exams.”

“Yeah, we know,” says the dog boy, “You already told us you were going to do that.”

“Indeed, Inuzuka. But now I have actually done it. That’s why its time to give you my words of wisdom. Listen carefully!”

Dog boy is about to say something, but Akamaru reaches down from the top of his head and covers his mouth with a paw. Good dog. His teammates are considerably more enthused. The bug brat even takes out a notebook.

“The Chunin Exams are not merely exams. They are life and death simulations of shinobi life. You will be pushed to the limits of your skill. In all likelihood, promotion is impossible as you are now. However, this presents many opportunities. To compete with and collect intelligence on foreign shinobi, to gain additional experience in a wide range of areas, and finally, to instill within you a sense of what a higher level of mission will be like. Furthermore, the Chunin Exams are, in effect, war. Shinobi from multiple villages fighting one another in order to enhance their village’s prestige and attract clients. They are a microcosm of the conflict that defines the ninja world. Remember this. You will do your village proud, or I will be ashamed to call you my students.”

It takes a few seconds before the bug brat finishes writing everything. Meanwhile, the Hyuuga girl stares at you with a surprising amount of determination in her eyes, and even the dog boy and his partner are sobered by your words. Well, time to cheer them up a bit and give them some motivation.

“All that being said, if one of you actually manages to pass and become a chunin on your first try, then I do have a reward in mind.”

>“Since you’ll no longer be one of my students, you can train on your own.” No more punishments for them.

>“I’ll take you on as an apprentice.” Teach them your own personal taijutsu style.

>“I’ll take you out to a barbecue place in the fun part of town.” Women in bikinis serving barbecue, what is there not to love? Would probably work better for the boys.

>“I’ll recommend you for the ANBU or Hunter-nin corps. Whichever your prefer.” You have some connections in the black ops divisions, so hook them up. It’ll be good for their careers.

>“I’ll do you a favor. Anything you want.” You couldn’t think of anything, so give them the reward equivalent of a gift card. Hopefully they don’t ask you to do something too ridiculous.

“I’ll do you a favor. Anything you want.”

Though the bug brat and the Hyuuga just nod, the dog boy looks at you.

“Are you really sure about that? Really, really, sure?”

“Yes, Inuzuka. Why do you ask?”

He smirks.

“No reason.”

You don’t like the look on his face, but you doubt he’s going to pass this time around anyway. The only one with a chance is the bug brat; even though the Hyuuga girl and dog boy might have the skill, they lacked the air of a team leader. Unless they could be trusted to command a squad, there was no way they’d be promoted. A wallflower and a hothead wouldn’t make the cut, but the bug brat’s analytical nature would give him a decent, though still unlikely, chance. And you doubt he’d ask for anything that bad. Right?

“Now, let me escort you to the exam hall. This way, Team 8,” you say.

The first exam was to be held in a rather unassuming building. Due to its written nature, there was no need for anything more. To be honest, you weren’t quite sure of the validity of written tests to evaluate a shinobi. The second exam was much closer to what you considered important: an actual mission simulation. Even the third exam was more of a way to show off to clients than a suitable evaluation for ninja. Ninja fight in teams, not one-on-one, and real battles tended to be far less even and ‘fair’, for lack of a better term, than those in the third exam. It was a good show, though.

“Alright,” you say, coming to a stop before the entrance. “This is it. I can’t follow you beyond this point. Good luck and don’t die, your parents would kill me.”

And with that, your brats step into the exan hall. It would be preferable if they didn’t die, of course, but you were actually confident that they’d do a lot more besides not dying. They had potential, otherwise you’d never would have taken them on. With time, you’ve sharpened that potential and made it stronger. Now it was time to see how well you did.

Thankfully, they had set aside a waiting area for you and the other jounin. You wouldn’t be able to observe the proceedings, but it did give you an area to wait in while the brats took the first exam. When you arrive, you see that Asuma and Gai are already present. You suppose that Kakashi will probably come late. Hopefully his team hasn’t picked up on that habit, it’d get them disqualified.

“Yo,” says Asuma. “Kirai. Ready to eat your words?”

Oh, not this. You’d figured that it was just some playful ribbing earlier, but now it looked like he was actually going to continue with this back and forth. You consider what to do.

You take a seat on the couch next to Gai, while Asuma just smirks at you relentlessly.

“No. I won’t be eating any words.”

“We’ll see about that.”

“Do you have something important to say, Asuma, or are you just going to keep spouting nonsense?”

“Heh. My team will do great. And there’s no nonsense about that.”

“Very confident, are we? The competition is tough this year. After all, we have Gai’s team to contend with.”

Gai smiles at the mention.

“Indeed. My students are brimming with youth and experience! They shall surely best yours!”

“Right,” you say, “and that’s not the only team to worry about. There are over two jinchuuriki in this exam, after all.”

“Over two, huh? That’s a clever way of putting it. The jinchuuriki will be a concern for more than one reason. Kakashi’s team already has the Uchiha, but with Uzumaki on it as well, he got lucky. Of course, nothing can begin to compete with my Ino-Shika-Cho in the second exam, their teamwork gives them a natural advantage.”

“Hmm…I suppose Kakashi’s team is pretty strong, yeah.”

You have memories of the Last Uchiha brat effortlessly defeating your dog boy. He was definitely a cut above the rest, that was for certain. And as for the whiskered brat, you were there when the Kyuubi attacked. Even with only a fraction of its power, he’d be something else. Though he did strike you as a bit slow, that wouldn’t matter as much if he was a powerhouse chakra-wise and had a jinchuuriki’s healing capability.

“That being said, I’m also a bit worried about the Oto-nin,” Asuma says.

“Oto? Sound?”

“Yeah, Otogakure. The Village Hidden in the Sound. A bit of a weird name. They started up in the Land of Rice fairly recently, so they have a lot to prove. That being said, given their limited pool of starting shinobi it is possible that their genin are higher level than average.”

“That would be concerning. I haven’t heard anything about them before, though. How recent is fairly recently?”

“Very, very recent. This is the first Chunin Exams they’ll be participating in, so maybe less than a year. If they do well enough they might become a successful minor village, like Tanigakure before you made a mistake and got almost half their village murdered. Nice one, by the way.”

“You know as well as I do that was the fault of Suna’s jinchuuriki. He’s bloodthirsty. He and his siblings are all the Kazekage’s children, too, so I expect they’ll make for fierce competition.”

“More importantly, they have a reason to go after your team. You did kidnap two of them, you know?”
>>
>>1857863
True. You were more worried about the jinchuuriki pursuing them then you were about his siblings, but all three of them would have reason for a vendetta against you and your squad. Without you to defend them, they’d be pretty helpless if the red-haired brat actually did go after them. That was just how being a shinobi was sometimes. If they perished in the exams, then there wasn’t much you could do. They were going to perish at some point, now or later, but you’d did all you could to protect them.

“More importantly, they have a reason to go after your team. You did kidnap two of them, you know?”
It’s then that Kakashi arrives, smut in hand.

“Kirai. Asuma. Gai.”

He sits down and continues to read his smut. Typical Kakashi. You and Asuma continue.

“Yeah,” you say, “They would have a reason to want revenge on my team. They’d have to do it in the second exam, I think.”

“Probably. That’s the team survival mission, after all. Say, speaking of the actual exams, you guys have heard about whose proctoring this year, right?”

“No, actually,” you say.

“That’s because you don’t talk to anyone.”

Couldn’t argue with him on that.

“I did hear,” says Kakashi, flipping a page of his book, “It’s Mitarashi Anko for the second exam and Gekkou Hayate for the third.”
“Yeah, but what about the first?”

“No idea,” Kakashi says. “I don’t really care, either.”

“You will once you hear it. It’s Morino Ibiki.”

Kakashi pauses for a moment. He looks up from his book, and stares at Asuma for several seconds.

“I see,” he says, and then returns to his smut. “I’m not worried.”

Morino Ibiki? They have the head of Torture and Interrogation proctoring a fucking written exam? Why in the hell would they need him for this? Perhaps he was supposed to screw with their heads somehow. Guess you shouldn’t have been looking down on the first exam, because with Ibiki running it there was now an actual chance your brats wouldn’t pass.

You mull that over for a moment. Then Kakashi speaks up again.

“There’s actually something you should all know.”

“What’s that?” asks Asuma.

“Classified.”

“Then why are you telling us we should know?”

“I will tell you, should you choose to accept the knowledge. And the mission. The Hokage spoke to me about it earlier, and who I accept onto my squad is left to my discretion. I thought of who I wanted, and coincidentally they are all here.”

You, Gai and Asuma all share a look. Kakashi closes his book.

“I will warn you, however. This is not an ordinary mission. That’s why I asked, first. Should you choose to accept, you will not be able to back out of it.”

>Well, fuck yeah you’ll do it. You’ll need something to do while the brats are off in the exam.

>Ask for more details. Surely there’s something non-classified he could tell you.

“Yeah, sure. I’ll do it. What is ‘it’, then?”

Asuma and Gai quickly confirm their participation as well. Kakashi gives you an eye smile. Fuck.

“Good. We’re looking for a target, a slender woman with extremely large breasts. Ridiculously, impossibly large, in fact.”

“So, are talking Tsunade-level, or…” asks Asuma. You have no idea what he’s talking about.

“Yes. Tsunade-level.”

“What does her breast size matter?” you ask.

You and Gai share confused looks. See, someone else doesn’t understand what’s going on, either.

“Well, it is their distinguishing feature, really. Anyway, this woman should be entering the hot springs at some point. The woman’s bath, in fact.”

“And you didn’t think to ask a woman to help?” you ask.

“No. There’s a reason we are tracking the target. Women would not approve of it. Instead, we will transform into females ourselves, infiltrate the women’s bath, and wait until the woman arrives.”

“Did the Hokage really give you this mission?”

“Yes.”

“Can you tell me what the purpose of it is, then?”

“No, that’s classified.”

>Clearly a trap. Fuck this mission, you are not doing it. Though Kakashi might strong-arm you anyway, given that you are supposedly no longer allowed to back out.

“Kakashi.”

“Yes, Kirai?”

“If this is a trap, Gai, Asuma and I will intimately acquaint you with pictures of every old male rectum in the Land of Fire.”

“Speak for yourself,” says Asuma, “I think it sounds like fun.”

His cheeks are colored red. Damn it, you thought only Kakashi was like this.

Meanwhile, Gai speaks up.

“I would…rather not. It does not seem to be in the spirit of youth.”

“Too late,” Kakashi says, already forming the seals for a transformation jutsu. “This is what the mission entails, Gai. Just think of the mission.”

“You know, didn’t you say there was something we should know that we would learn if we accepted the mission?”

“Yes.”

“What is it?”

“We’ll get to that part later. We have to find the target, first.”

You sigh.

Twenty minutes later, you, Kakashi, Asuma, and Gai are all soaking in the warmth of the women’s bath. You can almost feel the aura of lust coming off of Kakashi and Asuma, but you choose instead to close your eyes and think of your brats. Hopefully they’ve passed. They should be starting the second exam by now, which will likely take a week. Hopefully this mission is concluded by then. You might have to train them for the third exam, after all.

“Oh, Aiko! I had no idea your breasts were so big! You shouldn’t hide them under baggy clothing all the time.”

“You say that, but I wish they were smaller. They get in the way all the time, you know?”

You tense. Close your eyes. Remember, think of your brats. No, shit, don’t think of them, that would be weird considering your current condition. Think of Konoha. Sweet, glorious Konoha. Oh, how many murders you’d committed in its name…

“I wish mine were smaller, too,” says another woman, with a very deep voice.

“Holy shit!” shouts the one named Aiko. “Those are way bigger than mine!”

“Is this really what women talk about, or are they just a bunch of perverts?” you ask Gai.

“I do not know. It is not youthful to think of such things.”

“What does youth mean to you, anyway?”

“Many things, Kirai-san. But I know this is not it.”

“Quiet down,” says Kakashi. “And open your eyes, too. The girl that just joined them is our target.”

Hesitantly, you open an eye. Sure enough, the new woman has spectacular breasts. Huge. Damn it, you were going to show Kakashi old men’s rectums anyway for making you feel this uncomfortable.
>>
>>1857986
“Those can’t be real,” says one of the women.

“Heheh,” laughs the large-breasted woman, said breasts swaying as she does. Fucking hell.

“Okay, Kakashi,” says Asuma, “how do we capture her?”

“Simple,” Kakashi says, and pulls out a shuriken.

“Where…where did you hide that?”

“….none of your concern.”

Kakashi tosses the shuriken at the woman, who is hit in the side of the leg. Smoke subsequently appears where the woman once was, and when it clears there is a naked, white-haired man standing in her place.

“NO, MY PLAN!”

“PERVERT!”

The ensuing minute consists of you watching a large number of naked women chasing around and attempting to assault the man, who runs out of the women’s bath in apparent fear.

“Let’s go,” Kakashi says. “Our target is escaping.”

You all comply with his order, jumping over the wall of the hot springs and de-transforming. The white-haired man is running frantically about, in the opposite direction of the horde chasing him. They ceased once they were outside of the woman’s bath, but the man kept running for good measure.

That’s when you notice the rope trap set up outside of the entrance to the hot springs. The man runs straight into it, and is grabbed by the ankle. When you reach him, he’s being held upside down from a tree branch, still naked.

“Okay. Who the fuck is this, Kakashi?”

“This,” Kakashi says, as he pulls out a kunai and begins to cut the rope, “is Jiraiya-sama.”

You stare at him.

“The Sannin?”

“Yes.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“I am.”

You look at Asuma, who shrugs.

“He writes Kakashi’s books, remember? What were you expecting?”

“Something more than a perverted old man.”

Jiraiya, having been freed from the rope trap, makes a grand pose and points his finger straight at you.

“I am something more than a perverted old man!”

“Really?”

“I am a super perverted old man!”

“What’s the difference?”

“Royalties from my erotic novels. And you guys just interrupted my very important research! What is the meaning of this, Kakashi?”

“Apologies, Jiraiya-sama. When Hokage-sama found out you were going to do research before giving him the information you said was so important, he demanded we locate you immediately.”

“Damn it, sensei. I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned my plan to him in that message.”

You can already tell you are not going to like this man.

>Ask him to prove he’s really the famous Toad Sage. I mean, you can’t believe this. He was a hero back in the war! Though Tsume did mention that thing about peeping…still, you can’t believe it.

Getting Jiraiya clothes. Writing.
>>
>>1858029
“Did you leave your clothes somewhere?” you ask, trying to ignore his nudity as much as possible.

“Hmm? Oh, yeah. They’re over by my peephole. Say, who are you again?”

“Kirai Kodomo, Jounin of Konohagakure.”

“You sound like a square. Have you ever read any of my masterpieces?”

“No.”

“Then you are not fit to comment on my research until you see the magnificence it produces. Now go get my clothes.”
You didn’t like his attitude, not one bit, but considering his strength you grit your teeth and comply. You avoid actually looking through the peephole, even out of your peripheral vision, and return with his clothes.

“Turn around, please, I’m not into men.”

Once he’s done changing, you head off to the Hokage Tower. You consider the implications of what you had just learned. You were aware that the Sannin wrote smut, but had no idea he would participate in such lewd and illegal behavior. If he weren’t such a powerful shinobi, you’d report him to the military police yourself Why not go to the red light district if he wanted to get his rocks off? Did he get some sick pleasure from ogling women who were not aware he was there?

You and Gai share a look. It isn’t hard to see that he agrees with you. Like, seriously, what the fuck?

When you arrive at the Hokage’s office, Jiraiya casually leans on the door to open it.

“Sensei. How’s it going?”

“Jiraiya. I am well. But I am interested in hearing your full report.”

“Yeah, that’s why you had to go and interrupt my research, huh?”

“You research isn’t necessary. I assure you your books would be just fine without you breaking our sex crime laws.”

“I was thinking of including a scene where a man disguised as a woman enters the women’s bath in my next book. How was I supposed to make it authentic without doing it myself? Besides, I know you read my books, sensei. You know how much good my research does.”

“Me reading your books is irrelevant, Jiraiya,” says the Hokage, while…blushing…

“Uh, should we be here for this part?” you whisper to Kakashi. “This sort of stuff is confidential, right? He’s delivering a report.”

“No, we are. The mission isn’t over yet.”

“Sure, sensei,” says Jiraiya, waving his hand dismissively. “So, the report?”
>>
>>1858124
“Yes. I want to hear more about them. The Akatsuki. What have you learned?”

The Akatsuki? You vaguely recall an organization like that existing in Amegakure at some point. It was a rebel group that was crushed by Ame’s ruler, Hanzo. As far as you know they didn’t exist anymore. Why would Jiraiya be spying on them?

“Besides what we already knew? Not much. We know they’re targeting the jinchuuriki, but I still have no idea why, or what their plans are for capturing them specifically. But I did find out something interesting.”

“And what is that?”

“Well, I found out about Akatsuki when tracking Orochimaru’s movements, but I didn’t know why he left the organization. Now, however, I do know. Apparently, he had a fight with Uchiha Itachi, and lost badly.”

“So that means…”

“Yes. Itachi is a member of the Akatsuki.”

The Hokage sighs. You just stand, confused.

Why would an Ame rebel group want to capture the jinchuuriki and count a S-rank missing-nin from Konoha in its ranks, especially when it seemingly disbanded years ago? Was anyone going to explain anything to you?

“Then,” the Hokage says, “We shall need to be even more cautious. Kakashi?”

“Yes?”

“This is your team?”

“It is, Hokage-sama.”

“Good. Kirai. Gai. Asuma. The mission I am about to assign to you, with Kakashi as your squad leader, is one of S-rank importance. As you might have realized by now, there is an organization known as the Akatsuki that is currently pursuing the jinchuuriki, likely for the bijuu’s power. We do not know when or if they will strike, but we need to be prepared. There are three jinchuuriki in the village at present, making this a golden opportunity for any member of the Akatsuki. Given the risk, we need a team of trusted individuals to be on the lookout for any signs of Akatsuki activity. Watch the jinchuuriki and those around them closely. The Akatsuki normally wear a black cloak with red clouds outlined in white, but for covert operations they may wear something more subtle. The organization consists entirely of S-rank missing-nin, so in the event you find one of them, do not engage alone. Jiraiya, do you have the seals?”

“Yup, sensei.”

Jiraiya pulls out several scrolls, all of which have intricate designs written on them. Indecipherable to you, of course. You’re not exactly an expert in fuinjutsu.

“These seals will allow you to communicate with each other over long distances, if you spot a member of the Akatsuki, inform the others of your location so that you may converge and stop the threat. One more thing. The Akatsuki work in groups of two. No matter what, there will be more than one of them. If you only find one, remember that the other is near. I’ll leave the rest to you, Kakashi.”
>>
>>1858124
>>1858126
“Yes, Hokage-sama.”

“Here,” says Jiraiya, “I’ll have to imprint the seals on your skin. They only last a week or so, but I’ll reapply them once they wear off.”

“Wait, Hokage-sama,” you say, head spinning from all of this, “Is there no more information on the Akatsuki than that?”

“Sadly, no.”

You sigh. Great. A huge organization of S-rank missing-nin with only one known identity among them who always travel in groups of two and could possibly be targeting your village during one of the biggest events of the year while you still have your brats to worry about. And you have to regularly interact with the pervert on top of all that. You almost wish you’d said no to the mission.

Almost. It does sound sort of interesting, in the Bloody Mist's sense of the term. And it would give you something to do while the brats are away. The question is, besides looking for the Akatsuki, what do you do while you wait for your brats to finish the second exam?

>Raiton: Sanda. Surely after all of this Kakashi will finally teach it to you, damn it. Plus, you should spar with him. If Uchiha Itachi is a member of the Akatsuki, it might be useful to get experience in fighting against the sharingan.

>There should be some data on which teams passed the first exam. Not to be neurotic or anything, but considering Ibiki of all people administered it, maybe you should check and make sure they got through it all right.

>Enlist Gai in an attempt to get revenge on Kakashi. You don’t know what you are going to do, but you are going to do something.

>Fuck it. If there’s one way to get stronger in preparation for having to fight S-rank shinobi, it is getting used to fighting S-rank shinobi. And since you have one right here…challenge Jiraiya to a spar.

You catch Kakashi as he’s headed out of the Hokage Tower.

“Kakashi.”

“Kirai.”

“Was not telling us in advance what to expect in the hot springs really necessary?”

“I told you what was necessary. If there was a woman there with ridiculous, unrealistically sized breasts, it was going to be either Jiraiya-sama in disguise or Tsunade-sama. And Tsunade-sama is not returning to the village anytime soon.”

“Yeah, but you could have told us that it would be Jiraiya in disguise.”

“Forgot the honorific, Kirai.”

“Honestly, I don’t feel like adding it. The man is unprofessional, to be frank, and would be in prison in any sane system. This degeneration of morals would not have been tolerated under the Second. That sort of lewd behavior should be restricted to the red light district.”

“Woah, getting a little political there.”

“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I’ve completed the lightning chakra training.”

“Have you now?”

“I have.”

“Good.”

Kakashi pulls out his book, starting to read and walking away at the same time.

“Kakashi?”

“Kirai.”

“Raiton: Sanda?”

“Oh, yeah, that.”

He shows you the seals. There aren’t very many, so it is thankfully easy to memorize.

“There you go, Kirai. Now I’ll be off.”

“Wait. There’s also something else I wanted to ask you.”

“Oh?”

“Given what we just learned, don’t you think it would be wise for us to start learning how to combat the sharingan?”

“Yes, of course. What are you suggesting?”

“Just a spar. Me and you.”

“Okay. No.”

“Why not?”

“A couple of reasons. First of all, my sharingan is significantly weaker than Itachi’s for numerous reasons. Second, I don’t want to. Go ask Gai.”

“Gai does not possess the sharingan.”

“Yes, but he does have something almost as good. He’s figured out how to fight the sharingan from his past conflicts with me already. There’s no point in us sparring when we should be looking out for signs of Akatsuki activity. As I said, go ask Gai.”

>Take Kakashi’s advice. If Gai has some sort of taijutsu-based counter to the sharingan, then it would be useful to learn.

>Eh, for now, you should probably perfect the use of Raiton: Sanda. You’ve yet to actually use it, even though you now know the seals, so it would be best to master the jutsu for effective use in battle.

“Alright, thanks for the tip I guess.”

“You’re welcome. Oh, and Kirai?”

“Yes?”

“I recommend you do not try and fight Uchiha Itachi. He’s something else. He surpassed me and you the second he hit puberty.”

“Understood.”

“Good. Then I’ll be on my way. See you when the second exam ends. I have a feeling we’ll both be able to see our teams in the third.”

“Me too.”

With that, Kakashi continues to stride down the street and read his smut.

Right, time to go find Gai, then. You lost track of him, but if anything, he should be training right now himself. Since, similar to you, training was basically his hobby. That was something you shared in common as taijutsu specialists.

Training Ground 9 is just as you remember it. They fixed the broken training posts, but other than that it is the same as from your brats’ test. The last time you were here was when you forcibly stripped Gai, but that was only briefly. Speaking of Gai, you can see him eagerly exercising in the center of the field.

“Gai?”

“Kirai-san? Have you come to join me in my training?”

“Well, actually I wanted to ask you about something.”

“I see. Well, if I can answer, then I shall!”

“Kakashi mentioned that you’d developed methods of fighting the sharingan. Since Uchiha Itachi is a member of the Akatsuki, I thought it would be useful to learn them from you.”

“Uchiha Itachi? My methods were designed to spar with Kakashi, not him. But there is something that always works well!”

“Really?”

“Yes. Avoid eye contact and read his movements from his feet. It shouldn’t be difficult at all for a jounin, let alone a fellow taijutsu specialist!”

“Huh. Yeah, I guess that would work. I thought you had something more concrete than that, though.”

“No! That is all. Itachi and Kakashi are far too different. One is my eternally cool rival, while the other is…well, not.”

“Right. How much do you know about Itachi, anyway? All Kakashi told me was that I shouldn’t try to fight him. I was on some missions with him in the past, but that was before he made ANBU. He was just some strangely skilled ten year old, not unlike Kakashi in that respect.”

“He is dangerous.”

“Yeah, I sort of understood that. He killed his whole clan in one night, after all. Neither of us could do that. Not without going to extreme measures, at least. Anything else?”

“I have never gone on missions with him, Kirai-san. I do not know much, other than what others have told me.”

“Hmm.”

“Say, Gai, I actually will join you in your training for a bit. I think I should test out this feet-reading you mentioned. It shouldn’t be too difficult, but practice makes perfect.”

Wouldn’t want to go into combat with Itachi and fail in a critical moment because of the fact you didn’t practice enough. That would be a rather ignoble end to your long career.

“Very well, Kirai-san! We shall spar!”

Gai leaps up, landing on his feet and giving you a thumbs up and white-toothed smile. If it weren’t for the fact he made a good sparring partner, you don’t know how much of his weirdness you could tolerate. As it is, you ignored his mannerisms and prepared yourself for your spar.

You lock your eyes on Gai’s feet.

“Okay! We shall begin, now!”

At Gai’s call, you stay put. Gai has some experience with this, but you don’t, so you figure it is best to be on the defensive initially. Gai does not hesitate, of course, and the first thing you notice is his feet lift off the ground with his usual speed. His usual speed being really, really fucking fast. Judging from the trajectory at which he lifted them, he’s-

Shit. Too slow. You actually hear the Dynamic Entry before it hits you, and are barely able to block in time.

“Haha, Kirai-san! You are too slow!”

No need to rub it in, asshole. Though to be fair, Gai likely didn’t mean anything even remotely malicious by it. He wasn’t the sort to casually insult someone and-shit, his feet indicate that he’s aiming a strike at your solar plexus. You move your hands to block, but then his feet subtly shift and you instantly realize you made a mistake as the fist comes crashing into your chest instead.

Hmm…it is very difficult to read feints by feet alone. You don’t know much about Uchiha Itachi’s fighting style, but you find it likely that he uses feints. Any good shinobi does. Therefore, you will have to overcome this difficulty.

You smile.

>Time to go on the offensive. See how Gai likes it when you deliver a bunch of feints, and try training your Raiton: Sanda while you’re at it.

Gai’s next strike seems like it is aimed at your chest, but you quickly recognize that it is a feint. Unfortunately, Gai still outpaces you, and so your solar plexus bears the strike. It is painful, but Gai is clearly holding back somewhat to give you time to adjust.

The next hour or so is probably going to be very unpleasant, but that’s simple how things had to be.

You realize Gai’s intent. He knows that reading feet will be easy for you once you get it down, but he also knows, likely from experience, that feints are more difficult to read than normal. Thus, he’s decided to give you the hard stuff right away and allow you to face it head-on. It’s training characteristic of Gai, really. He seems to have grown as a teacher since he’s received his team, then. You are not surprised. That Hyuuga brat was really good, after all.

Of course, realizing Gai’s intent doesn’t make it any less painful. You are already slightly weaker than him. Very, very, very slightly. It’s pretty miniscule, almost not worth mentioning. Yeah. But the gap in skill is still there, just enough so that when you are disadvantaged by attempting an entirely new way of reading your opponent’s moves it is shoved in the forefront in an exhausting manner. Thankfully, you can take more punishment than most.

Within the first twenty minutes, you already make significant progress, regularly blocking hits. At the half hour mark, you are good enough to aim some strikes of your own at Gai. Once fifty minutes have past, you pull off your first successful feint against Gai. By the hour mark, you actually start to hit him with something approaching regularity, but not nearly often enough. Still, this practice will serve you well.

Hmm…it will still be another week until your brats pass the Chunin Exams. You should probably plan out your actions in the interim. You’ll have to watch out for the Akatsuki, of course, but that doesn’t mean you can’t train yourself for their arrival. What should you focus on doing tomorrow?
>>
>>1858405
>Master Raiton: Sanda. Figure out some way to integrate it into your fighting style. Ask Kakashi for advice, if needed. He mentioned something about electrocuting people as you strike? And try to persuade him to spar with you, damn it. You don’t know why he’s so reluctant. Now you understand Gai’s frustration.

>Master Feet-Reading. Spend tomorrow training with Gai. You should be able to fight with him just as effectively reading his feet as you can fight with him normally, but it will take a lot of work to make that happen. A day of training should allow you to perfect it.

>Investigate Uchiha Itachi. Anything you can do to get an edge, you should, and finding out more about Itachi could definitely give you an edge. Track down old teammates, ask the Hokage for past mission files, and research Uchiha clan techniques in general. You’ve never had to fight against one, so this is new to you.

>Seek out Jiraiya. The Toad Sage may be a pervert, but you know for a fact that he is an excellent ninja. Given this, it might be prudent to seek his advice. You doubt he’d actually train you in anything, yet he’s the only S-rank shinobi you have on hand to gauge your relative skill level to a member of the Akatsuki.

>Train with Asuma. You’ve never trained with him before, and he’s objectively probably the weakest of the impromptu team set up by Kakashi. If you can help him improve his abilities in any way, it’d be helpful to the overall squad.

Now you're thinking like Kirai...

Also
>Shino's fw he passes the exam and we go harder on him for it
>>
>>1859028
Plus we could always give the winner access to our "Special Chunin Training Program", which is even crazier bullshit training like not sleeping for weeks and carving a replica of the hokage monument on another mountain with only their fists.

We have broken Gai's nun-chucks on our balls.

Obtaining Balls of Iron should be an honor, not a punishment! Of course it'd be really funny if Hinata wins and gets to do it.

>"b-but Sensei, I-I'm a girl! I d-don't ne-"
>Kirai kicks her in the cooter and she nearly passes out
>"Did that hurt?"
>Y-y-yes."
>"Then you need it. Now get up, that was just a warm up!"
>>
Someday we should have a flashback episode to Kirai's genin years, just so see if his training was as bullshit as he makes it seem compared with modern day training
>>
>>1859176
Seeing as how his Genin training was fucking war, I'm going to assume yes.
>>
>>1859186

I thought war was his chunin and junin exams and that he received legit training until achieving genin rank before being tossed into the meatgrinder.
>>
>>1859192
>First of all, Kirai was never on a genin team himself. He was sent into the active shinobi forces as soon as he graudated because they were in the middle of a war. He had basically no time to adjust to shinobi life before being thrown into the thick of it, in other words. But instead of perishing like so many of his comrades over the years, he endured. He grit his teeth and beared with it, and found that ninja work was his true calling.

Back when people were theorising on Kirai's background and trying to make him seem like a broken, tragic figure instead of just a sociopathic hardass.
>>
>>1859247
Well he is a broken, tragic figure. He just is cut as to be extremely unsympathetic
>>
>>1859247

In that case, change it from genin training to pre-genin training. I mean, if he considers that being beaten to near-death and pushed to do extra work after it is going easy on them, surely his training before becoming an actual ninja was just as insane.

After all, if war is all he knows, he doesn't know shit about training methods besides not dying in battle, yet he seemed to have a grasp on something resembling training for newbies with his team.
>>
Guess if our brats survive the second and third part os the exam we should start to make then punch trees.

>>1859247
>giving characters backstory that actually explains the reason he is the way he is is dumb and it's a lot better for him to be a sociopathic asshole for no real reason.

As much as I like Kirai, it's pretty fucking stupid that he's in his late 40's and he's literally never had a single friend, confidant or anybody he's ever cared about ever.

I mean, jesus, he's such a distant wizard that it really makes no sense why he's so loyal to the village in the first place. Someone like Kirai who has never ever felt anything for anyone would have jumped ship the moment it seemed advantageous for him.

At least if he had HAD friends at some point and they all died, it'd explain why he is the way he is. Not wanting to let people get close to him because he feels they're just going to die anyways.
>>
>>1859266
>Extremely unsympathetic

I think the idea of a person like Kirai can be sympathetic since we know that he has emotional input to things, he's just suppressing it with the same amount of grit he had during the war.

He's a child-soldier turned grizzled veteran, and I think he's more than earned some sympathy.
>>
>>1859283

>>
>>1859283
I don't think you've met many veterans mate.

You don't come out of war, much less a ninja magic bullshit war, and as a kid, without some form of mental damage. Sociopathy and general anti-social behavior is probably getting off easy with how fucked your mind comes out of several years of that shit.
>>
>>1859283
Sometimes a character who's just an asshole can be fun, anon. They don't need to have a tragic backstory to be good.
>>
>>1859292
Except for the fact that OP gave him a tragic backstory. It's just a matter of how we interpret his actions and current mindset at this point.

>Also cares about his country.

Pick one. There is no such thing as a truly patriotic sociopath.

I'm not trying to give him a tragic backstory, I just want him to have a backstory that makes sense.
>>
>>1859292

He's not simply an asshole, the way NOIP shows him, Kirai is damaged goods with emphasis in damaged. He's so out of his mind that what passes for common sense for normal people is some sort of bizarre alien logic for him and dude doesn't even sleep and blatantly misses social signs like a champ or some oblivious harem/fighting manga teen main character.

Those aren't exactly the makings of somebody who's just an asshole for the sake of being an asshole and as the other anons mentioned, he become so much of a sociopath that it is a miracle he still stays loyal to the cause of konoha instead of becoming some sort of criminal
>>
>>1859321

>>1859317
What are ypu saying? We do have a connection we have one with our fellow Jounin's and especialy with Gai which we share the same love for taijutsu.
>>
>>1859335
Maybe his asshole behavior is just a defense mechanism. I imagine that seing so many people die while you are a child and even more while you live can make you a little bit distant of other people.
>>
>>1859321

> Sociopath

The entire setting makes this conversation weird, because if you think about it they're all child soldiers who are expected to fight and die for the glory of whatever nation they belong to. Kirai grew up during a time when this fact was brutally evident so Kirai embraced this fact consequently becoming increasingly less concerned with the looming prospect of death and loss and increasingly more patriotic and focused on self-improvement...
>>
>>1859348

Probably. So far he has shown little to no value for human life and even the students he is caring for could die as far as he is concerned and only bothers with keeping them alive because their parents would give him shit and he doesn't like it when people gives him shit.

Hell, pretty much the hokage choosing him as a teacher was purely a gamble to make him more human
>>
>>1859348
>I imagine that seing so many people die while you are a child and even more while you live can make you a little bit distant of other people.

That is exactly the point I'm trying to make. In order for their deaths to affect him, he'd HAVE to care about them. It'd have to HURT seeing people die. It would make sense, it would make him HUMAN to care about the people of Konoha and want to protect them. It would make SENSE if he closed off all human contact and became the way he is because he's scared of losing people he cared about. (So he solves that by forcing himself to not care about anyone)

He's been explicitly stated to have ALWAYS been an asshole who has literally never had a single friend in his entire life, not even other soldiers during the wars.

But whenever I bring that up, I get accused of "UR JUST TYRING TO MAKE HIM TRAJIC!'

>>
>>1859386
It's not that fucked up. There's wars, there's bullshit politics powerplays, just like real life. The only difference is that instead of missiles, they use tailed beasts as deterrent for conflict.

>>1859394
To be fair, it's not like Kirai had a choice on the matter. Maybe shitty kids in modern days have the freedom to choose if they want to be a ninja or not, but Kirai looks like he was raised since he was in the orphanage to be a gives no fucks murder machine in the middle of the bloodiest of wars where child soldiers were not just a choice, it was a thing they had to do to replace the killed ninja. It's not so much a sacrifice as it is him simply doing what he was programmed to do
>>
>>1859408
He has dedicated literally his entire life to protecting it, he has been thrown into constant life or death situations in the name of the village, he has fought in literal wars for the village.

Perhaps sacrifice was the wrong word as >>1859415 points out but basically we're talking about both him being programmed to be a tool of the village and him living in a massive sunken cost fallacy. Why would he go rogue after doing soo much for the village? Where is the advantage in being a criminal over being an elite ninja in a large and powerful village. What would he get out of it and what goals would it allow him to achieve?
>>
>>1859388

He spent his entire life in service the the leaf village. It gave him life, and he has presumably fought, suffered, and bled for it. He remains loyal because he has no purpose or identity when removed from it...

That's literally the reason, that storied history/sunk cost combined with strong feelings of duty and obligation keep him loyal...
>>
>>1859408
Decades of risking his life on the battlefield. It would take a very good reason for someone who has fought for decades for his village to betray it.
>>
>>1859427
>Strong feelings

You guys keep saying this.

He has at no point ever, shown strong feelings about anything.

You keep wanting him to be a sociopath who cares about no one, but also want him to care about his country.

That makes no fucking sense.
>>
>>1859415

Fucked up the wrong phrase. It's weird because child soldiers are so prevalent, to the point that there are elaborate systems in place to produce and train them...

It's kind of like how if you look at Pokemon hard enough you notice it's pretty much about cockfighting. It's weird, but whatever it's fiction. The whole point of it is exploring ideas...
>>
>>1859431
>>1859427
>>1859426
Orochimaru and Madara say hi
>>
>>1859441
A key part of indoctrinating people is having them form bonds with either yourself or people you trust.

A sociopath who's never cared and will never about anyone would quickly be weeded out and killed by any dictator or warleader because that person is not personally loyal to him, only themselves.
>>
>>1859439

He's mentioned his respect, dedication, and patriotic love for his village on numerous occasions. Who exactly do you think you're fooling? Do you for some reason think that we haven't also been reading along with the story?

> That makes no fucking sense.

Or, perhaps you are just not very bright...
>>
>>1859451

And he clearly has a strong bond to his home village. Because he was made to fight a massive war and now everything is just sunk cost.

He doesn't particularly care about other people's well-being and has a sadistic streak. This may be caused by his involvement in the wars, or he may have always been an unfeeling cunt, this does not preclude the previous point...

This isn't difficult to wrap one's head around I have no idea why you're having so much trouble with it...
>>
>>1859443
Orochimaru and Madara had clear goals that they left the village to pursue. Orochimaru in fact, didn't leave the village until he was caught and forced to run so my point stands
>>
>>1859452
>Hurr dur, I'm a stupid fucktard that doesn't understand the point that Kirai BEING patriotic in the first place makes no fucking sense because he literally does not nor has ever cared about anyone.

Maybe you should learn to fucking read before you start casting snide insinuations.
>>
>>1859489

> Buh he's sociopathic! He dunna caraboot anybody!

Except you don't direct patriotism towards people, but rather towards places. Such as the place that you were born, which brutally trained and indoctrinated you into fighting a series of conflicts and skirmishes for its sake. Eventually culminating in you spending your entire life fighting to protect the interests and citizens of your country...

Gee wizz, that's an awful lot of sunk cost...
>>
>>1859500
>A sociopath who literally has never cared about anyone else to the fucking point that he's almost 50 years old and he has NEVER, not even ONCE formed any sort of friendship or bond with a single other person, not even OTHER SOLDIERS, would totally care about his country. Hurf durf.

>>
>>1859559
But we're are they now anon. We're are they now.
>>
IMO considering Kirai's autistic obsession with training and forcing people to surpass their limits, I'd think his loyalty is his idea of what a perfect shinobi would do. He basically has done nothing but train, even forgoing sleep for months, to become a perfect warrior, and he's forced his students to take up a similar regimen because that's how he thinks you make the best shinobi.

I don't think his view of the world is too complicated. The guy's efficient is all.

He's loyal to the village because if you turn traitor you're shit at your job, and Kirai would never be shit at anything that matters.

I don't see why we can't make him break into S rank. He sure as shit has the necessary experience and body for it, but he needs the skills.

but the problem as I see it is getting access to those great skills and grinding up the stuff he isn't so good at. Good thing is he is a training freak bad news is that wont fix the problem of getting access to the strong skills to learn.

I mean, he has been an asshole for more than 40 years, it would be weird if suddenly he opened his heart and mind just because he gets the talk. After all, he didn't give a shit for his brothers at arms in the war days, and I doubt he will give a shit for some random brats whom he only tolerates due orders from the hokage

I would like to say that not for nothing, part of the reason we push so hard, even if it's on a subconscious level, is for them to survive.
We had plenty of opportunities to say fuck it we out, but not for nothing but we have gone as hard as we can into making sure the kids can survive what they will have to do.

Which i think implies some level of subconscious empathy.

I like to see it as Kirai doing his duty.

He obviously cares about doing his job, its his whole life. Right now, his job is making sure his brats are well trained and he's not the kind of guy who does a half-assed job.

That and I have to think he feels some sense of camadarie with his fellow Ninjas. Its just that he's emotionally detached enough to not feel much when they do die.

Keeping the brats alive is just part of his job, no emotions attached and they're on their own once he's no more responsible for their wellbeing. If they survive and becomes THE SHIT, it's fine, if they get killed in the chunin exams, its fine too, although with consequences.

He seems to care more about avoiding to get bitched by the clan heads for potentially getting them killed than actually wanting them to stay alive.
>>
You’re shirtless, sweat running down you like a river. Gai is in front of you, in similar condition but with his clothing thankfully still on. You notice the nudging of his foot, inclining just a bit to the left. You move left to avoid it, and that’s when the tree trunk hits you full force in the pectorals, shattering upon impact. Damn.

“We’re using weapons now, Gai?”

He laughs. You grimace.

“Indeed! It is better training!”

You understand Gai’s logic. A weapon extended the reach of the user. Therefore, a simple dodge to avoid the blow was not enough. And with your eyes affixed on his feet instead of his torso, it was almost impossible to read his arm movements when not using pure taijutsu. Since you can now have taijitsu spars with your normal level of competence while reading your opponent’s feet, the next step was to bring things besides pure taijutsu into the spars.

It still hurt like hell, of course.

The second blow is dodged simply, with you leaping up to avoid the swing. From here, you have to close your eyes to evade potentially lethal eye contact. That means that you have only sound to gauge the location of the next swing. The whirring of wind indicates a swing upwards, towards your stomach. Twirling in mid-air, you barely manage to avoid it, and then launch a kick into Gai’s face. He blocks it with ease.

“Very good, Kirai-san! But not good enough!”

You must admit, you were getting rather tired of Gai treating you like he probably treats his brats. You bore with it out of necessity, but grumbled mentally at the disrespect. Gai was never as fond of propriety as he should have been, and you were starting to take offense as his elder. You consoled yourself with the fact that at least you weren’t as generally useless with ninjutsu as him, and simply continued training.

Hour after hour, Gai tested you. He used every weapon he could, including his recently repaired nunchaku. A vast variety of strikes were used. Once, he had attempted to stab you with a kunai held in his teeth, which was particularly difficult to read. It gave you a wide gash in the shoulder, but still you fought on.

Even as night came, Gai did not relent. You were exhausted, yet your spar kept you both vigorous and uncompromising. You began to copy his tricks, and soon enough he was having the same level of difficulty reading your strikes. He too received a memento of this training, when you were able to bite him in the leg and draw blood. He smiled, and you continued.

Blow to blow, you were like men possessed. This, you realized, was taijutsu at its highest possible level, excluding what was possible with the gates. Two men testing each other’s strength in furious and skillful combat, incessant in their desire to be victorious.

In the end, you collapse under the starry sky. Gai laughs.

Damn it. He was still stronger than you. At least you knew how to read an opponent’s moves by their feet.

“I feel quite youthful now, Kirai-san!”
>>
>>1862592
You made the seal of reconciliation, and Gai helps lift you up. You stagger a bit, but regain your footing and wave him off. Being totally out of energy from sparring a day straight was unbecoming of a taijutsu master, and you cannot allow yourself to rely on Gai. This is your specialty too, after all, and your pride won’t allow you to give in.

“What are you going to do now, Kirai-san?”

It was getting late. A full moon shone brightly in the sky. You could sleep. You hadn’t since your time in the hospital, and after that spar you could use some rest. Then you remember that sleep is for the weak, and start hauling ass towards the nearest 24 hour shinobi goods store. You need to stock up on ration bars anyway. You are running out.

It’s only a few blocks from Training Ground 10. A simple enough place. You’ve been here before on a few occasions, it being so close to the training ground for your brats. As you are picking up the ration bars, you consider how they’re doing. It’s been two days in the second exam, which you found out was actually being held in the Forest of Death. They should be fine, not that you were actually worried or anything. They were your students, they’d do well or you’d have them stripped of their rank and sent back to that ludicrously lax academy.

That being said, you do hope they haven’t run into the red-haired jinchuuriki brat. They’d be pretty much screwed.

As you go to pay, you suddenly notice something you hadn’t before. The cashier on the late night shift is someone you recognize. He’s twenty pounds heavier and a lot shorter, but you think he was a chunin in the Third Great Ninja War.

“Kirai-taichou,” he says, glaring at you. “I see you’re still alive.”

“I am, er, whatever your name was again.”

“Arata.”

“Yeah, Ara-whatever. Do you have some sort of issue with me?”

“Do you really not remember?”

“Nope.”

He rolls out from behind the counter in a wheelchair. His legs are missing.

“The last time you saw me, you cut off my legs.”

Oh, yeah, you do remember that. He was assigned to your squad, and during a mission your medic-nin had been killed. His legs had been struck by a poisoned kunai, so in order to save him you had done an impromptu amputation. It stopped the poison from spreading in the blood. Clearly it was the right thing to do. He was alive, wasn’t he? People could be so ungrateful, which was one of many reasons you didn’t like them.

“And?”

“And? And? Do you have any idea what I’ve had to go through?”

“Obviously not, but that’s irrelevant. You still haven’t told me why you have a problem with me. I don’t know what I did that got you so pissy, but you should remember that I saved your life before you start accosting me when all I want to do is buy some ration bars.”

“You-”

You give him a swift forehead poke, then leave the money for the ration bars on top of the counter.

“So ungrateful.”
>>
>>1862592
>>1862597
As you start to leave, you notice that Ara-whatever dropped his wallet. You wonder where he keeps it, his shorts don’t really have pockets. While moving to return it to his unconscious body, a photo inside catches your eye.
It’s a girl. Brown hair, brown eyes, plain face. Oh, it must be that Ten-whatever girl, the kunoichi on Gai’s team. Huh. Ara-whatever must be either her father or some sort of pedophile. You should probably tell Gai about it, though you doubt that he can capture her with no legs.

You spend the night stoically waiting for morning on the old chair in your shitty apartment, quietly munching on ration bars and reflecting on the nature of brats. You hope that if you ever have to cut off one of your genin brat’s legs to save them one day, you won’t then have to deal with their complaining. In that event, you’d already be dealing with complaints from their parents and you really wouldn’t want their whining on top of it.

When dawn arrives, you feel that you have sufficiently recovered from your spar with Gai and begin to plan out your day. You’ll have to keep a sharp eye out for any red clouds, but you have regained enough energy to go out and do something while you’re at it.
>Practice Raiton: Sanda. You’ve yet to use it in actual battle, and you have to get accustomed to doing so. Otherwise, all that effort learning how to manipulate lightning chakra would end up being pointless.

Raiton: Sanda. You’ve spent months just learning the thing, so you figure it’s time to try it out. Kakashi was pretty vague when he described it, so you ought to determine its usability in battle and how it should be integrated into your general fighting style. Electrocuting when you strike was something that he mentioned.

You head over to Training Ground 8. Since the brats’ are still running around and trying to survive the Forest of Death, it’s totally clear this morning. You march up to one of the training posts, and then perform the hand seals Kakashi taught you.

You know something is wrong when you hear the crackling of lightning being aimed at your chest, and hastily dodge out of the way of your own attack. Huh. The bolts emerged from the wrist, meaning that you would have to flick your wrist in the direction you wished to aim the bolts. That would’ve been useful information from Kakashi, really. It’s a good thing you were a jounin or else his poor explanatory skills could have gotten you killed.

That being said, you can think of a number of applications for this. While a straight punch would just result in the bolts being aimed straight down, if you strike at an irregular angle the bolts could be directed alongside your strike. Furthermore, it did add to your somewhat limited number of techniques that could be used at a range. You were a taijutsu specialist, after all, so you preferred to be up close and personal to an opponent and your techniques reflected that.

Making the hand seals once more, you flick your wrist in the direction of the post. This time, the bolts hit it properly, although your aim could definitely use some practice. They aren’t strong enough to destroy the post entirely, but leave some noticeable indentations. Judging from the strength of the jutsu, it was likely not going to be useful on high-level opponents. Given that this training was ostensibly for the Akatsuki, you consider your options more carefully.

>This isn’t worth it right now. It’s more useful to hone your existing, jounin-level skills instead of perfecting a low-level ninjutsu. The current situation does not allow you to waste your time.

>You are not giving up on this jutsu just yet. Find a way to make it more powerful. Add additional chakra, switch up the handseals a bit, whatever works. You aren’t a ninjutsu expert but you might be able to come up with something.

What is that word you keep saying "giving up" Kirai doesn't know it. And ut sound like a stupid and weak word.
>>
>>1862718
It's more likely he just gave up after the loss of his legs and didn't consider any possibilities of actually getting right back into the game.

You're telling me that in all of the Leaf, there ain't a fucking master Carpenter who could whittle up a pair of legs? Nigga's be running up on walls and shit all damn day and shootin' fire out their mouths.

Nah, this guy just didn't want to have to put in the effort. I mean shit, lookit Lee man, that little fucker can't use nothing but Taijutsu and he makes it work.
>>
>>1862714
Fuck it. You’ve spent months learning how to manipulate lightning chakra in preparation for this one jutsu. You are not going to just abandon it now, even if that might be the more common sense approach. It’s time to do a little ninja science. And you know exactly what to experiment with first.

The next time you make the seals, you intentionally funnel as much chakra as you can into the jutsu. When you flick your wrist, the bolts come out much more rapidly and in greater numbers. But still don’t break the post. Damn. Increasing the amount of chakra just put it in a sort of rapid fire mode rather than empowering the individual bolts. Okay, you know exactly what to experiment with second.

When you make the seals again, you switch the last two around. This time, instead of firing out of your wrists, the bolts start flying out of your eyes. Thankfully this doesn’t damage your actual eyesight, but it does block it while you’re firing. And when the bolts cease and you can see again, the post is barely standing but still not broken. Damn. Switching the final handseals only changes the location the bolts emerge from, rather than making the bolts stronger. Once again thwarted.

Of course, maybe all this stuff would make sense to you if you were a ninjutsu specialist that understood how each individual handseal reshaped your chakra. But you aren’t, so back to trial and error it is.

This time, instead of adding more chakra or switching around seals yourself, you create a shadow clone. You have the clone add more chakra into the jutsu and switch the final two handseals at the same time. You don’t know if it would be safe for you to do it, so you wanted to test a theory. Sure enough, when the clone did so it resulted in rapid fire lightning bolt emerging from its eyes, preventing it from seeing a thing. Hmm, if you could combine the two effects, maybe there was a way to make this more useful.

Once the bolts stop flying out of your clone’s eyes, you have it stand across from you. In one fluid motion, you make the proper handseals and headbutt it, with lightning bolts shooting at extreme speed out of your eyes and into its. The clone dispels, and you smile.

If the lightning bolts blocked your eyesight, you likely wouldn’t be affected by the sharingan. Furthermore, the lightning bolts, while very weak, would still probably damage the Uchiha’s eyes if they were shot straight into them. While the major disadvantage of your own eyesight being blocked remained, you could at least rest assured that you obtained something useful from learning Raiton: Sanda. Thank the Sage of Six Paths.

“Impressive.”

You turn, only to see your current team leader watching from the treeline.

“Kakashi.”
>>
>>1862730
That's not even considering all the bullshit healing and forbidden jutsu he could have used to get himself back. Hell you could use normal jutsu to do that. I mean if you can make clones out of rock or water to fight at a similar level to your main body, you could probably just use that to create a pair of legs that work on your chakra, sure it'd be exhausting at first, but you could adapt.
>>
>>1862730
And don't forget, this guy was a Chunin.

Think of how many ninjas died trying to get as far as this guy only for him to give up.
>>
>>1862821
“Kirai. Your usage of Raiton: Sanda was impressive. You probably should have made the shadow clone from the start, though. What if firing the bolts from your eyes had negative side effects?”

“Yeah, well. I’m not expert in ninjutsu.”

“No, you aren’t. Not at all.”

“No need to rub it in, Kakashi. Is there something you actually want or will you leave me alone?”

“Yes, actually there is something I need to tell you. Urgent news, in fact.”

“Spit it out, then.”

“Orochimaru is back in the village.”

“Really? Has he been arrested yet?”

You can recall Orochimaru quite clearly, even though you never met him personally. He was a hero in the Second Great Ninja War, so you had plenty of opportunities to see him from afar. While you respected his power, when he turned traitor it became quite clear that any ‘hero’ status he’d formerly had was revoked. A pity. His skills could still have been useful for the village, although you suppose that his loyalty was questionable considering his actions. Kidnapping of orphans and human experimentation was not tolerated in Konoha, so the fact that he would break such taboos was a probable sign that his research was not necessarily in the village’s interest.

“No,” says Kakashi, “In fact he is still on the loose.”

“Where?”

“That’s the thing. The person who reported his presence was Mitarashi Anko.”

“And?”

“You don’t remember?”

“Remember what?”

“She’s the proctor for the second exam. She encountered him within the Forest of Death itself. Apparently he was posing as one of the genin in the exam.”

So your brats were in danger, as were Kakashi’s. Shit. You could not protect them from Orochimaru, so you hoped that they didn’t run into the snake bastard. Otherwise they’d be dead, or, alternatively, kidnapped and experimented on. You wonder if he would be interested in claiming the byakugan, then realize that you should probably be wondering why he was even back in the village at all.

“In the Forest of Death, huh? Any idea why he’s hiding out there? Or why he’s here in general?”

“Nope. He said some vague things to Anko, but nothing that allowed us to determine his exact reasoning. We know he’s left the Akatsuki, therefore it’s likely not the jinchuuriki. We can’t rule it out, of course. Regardless, be wary. Now we have yet another S-rank missing-nin to watch out for.”

“Understood, Kakashi. Are you sure it wouldn’t be a good idea to monitor the jinchuuriki within the forest ourselves?”

“The ANBU have the Forest of Death on lockdown now that Orochimaru’s been found. If the Akatsuki attempt to enter, we’ll know.”

“Yeah, but Orochimaru entered easily enough.”

“With not a single jounin on the premises.”

“Fair enough,” you respond.
>>
>>1862833

“Kakashi?”

“Yes, Kirai?”

“Spar with me.”

He stares at you for a few moments.

“No.”

“Seriously. This is important. Experience in fighting the sharingan would be useful should I come into contact with Uchiha Itachi.”

“I refuse.”

“Kakashi.”

“Kirai.”

“You will spar with me.”

“I don’t want to.”

“But you will.”

“That sounds unlikely.”

“Damn it, Kakashi, why is it that you’re so reluctant anyway?”

“I am a ninjutsu specialist, Kirai, but my chakra is not unlimited. In order to fight you on even terms, I would have to waste more of my chakra than I could swiftly regain. Should the Akatsuki appear in that moment, I would not be prepared to fight. If we were to spar, I would be limited in what and how many ninjutsu I could use, as I would need to conserve my chakra reserves, which are much more difficult to maintain than your physical stamina as a taijutsu specialist. It doesn’t help that use of my chakra-draining sharingan would be necessary to keep up with you. There is no way I could provide a challenge to you and also be capable of fighting the Akatsuki afterwards. So no.”

Then he shunshins away. Damn it, Kakashi.

You know only the bare minimum about Orochimaru’s fighting style, and there’s one person in the village who you know is more aware of it than anyone. The difficulty is finding him. You know he’s a pervert, so there’s a number of areas you could check. The question is, where to start?

You head to the red light district. You ignore the approaches of countless whores while you enter every individual brothel and ask for a man of Jiraiya’s description. They don’t dare decline to give client information to a jounin like yourself, which makes this process much faster than it would be otherwise. When it becomes apparent that he’s not patronizing whores, you move on to the next possible location.

The peephole in the women’s bath is unoccupied. Damn it.

Alright. Think, Kirai, think. If you were a man with loose morals and a massive libido, and you aren’t at the hot springs or the red light district, where would you be? Well, raping someone, probably. Okay, hopefully his morals weren’t that loose. You would be aghast at such a lack of discipline, and alienating the civilians was counterproductive for a shinobi. Much better they were either barely aware of your existence, like in your own case, or considered you a benevolent dictator, like in the Hokage’s case.
Anyway, you rule out rape for logistical reasons. You can’t check every back alley and side street in the village to find him groping some poor girl. You’ll have to think of something else. It comes to you at once.

He isn’t at the peephole, and he isn’t at the red light district, but he’s still likely doing something perverted in his free time. Writing! His erotic novels probably got his cock hard, so it makes sense that if he was laying low from the disaster at the hot springs the other day he’d pick up the pen and start writing to stimulate his interests. The question is, where would he be writing? You don’t know, really. Shit.

Okay, then the best option is probably to ask the Hokage. He should be familiar enough with where Jiraiya usually visits when he returns to Konoha, right?

As you’re on your way to the Hokage Tower, however, you notice him. He’s peering in through the window of an apartment in a nearby building. Ah, peeping on someone in the privacy of their own home? Guess that was to be expected. You liked your earlier theory better.

You leap up, standing right next to him on the building. If he notices you, he doesn’t say it.

IF she can open the third gate, I think that Daytime Tiger would go well with Gentle Fist.
>>
>>1863019
“Jiraiya-sama.”

“Hmm?”

He turns slowly, seemingly in a bit of a daze. You wonder why? You can see in your peripheral vision that there’s no one in the apartment he’s viewing, just a bed, some furniture, and a bunch of old ramen cups on the floor. He doesn’t seem the type to be interested in observing an apartment with no women in it. Ah, whatever.

“Oh, it’s you. That jounin. What do you want?”

“My name is Kirai, Jiraiya-sama. I was informed that Orochimaru was back in the village, and wanted to do some investigation into his weaknesses in the event I have to fight him. And you know him best.”

“That I do. But I don’t see why I should help you. What’s in it for me?”

You sigh. Of course he’d want something.

“What is it that you want?”

“Some of these, to begin with,” he makes a crude gesture indicating massive breasts, “and more than two of them wouldn’t hurt.”

“How exactly am I supposed to convince multiple women to spend time with you, of all people?”

“Not my problem. No tits, no dice. Sorry, but I have better things to do.”

>Hire some whores from the red light district. They’ll be expensive, so you don’t really want to, but they are used to feigning interest in perverted old men.

>Make two shadow clones and have them transform into attractive, large-breasted women. Then have them dispel once he’s done telling you the information. You don’t like this plan, as your ability to fake lust for the Toad Sage is probably pretty low.

He has been explicitly stated as never having a sense of friendship or bond with anyone else his entire life, not even other soldiers.

He's an autistic wizard to the extreme which is why all the people with no friends on this board like him so much. It's also why the get so angry when anons suggest an actual backstory REASON for Kirai to be the way he is other than just "lol asshole no friend for no reason"

“Alright, stay right here. I’ll be back with what you want.”

“You better be quick, or I’ll just leave anyway.”

You grit your teeth, but don’t talk back. Instead, you move as quickly as you can to the red light district. You’ve never hired whores before, so this will be an uncomfortable new experience. You head inside the first brothel of decent quality you find.

“Hello, welcome to…wait, aren’t you that guy who was in here earlier asking about an old man?” says the scantily clad woman at the front desk.

“Yes, that’s me. I need to purchase the services of some of your employees for a few hours. To work outside of the brothel.”

“That’s fine, so long as we are given the location.”

“You won’t need it, I’ll bring them there myself.”

“With all due respect, that is not our policy-”

Your glare silences her.

“Er, right. Which girls do you want? I can show you a catalogue.”

“Give me the two girls with the largest breasts you have on hand at the moment.”

“Oh, but sir, I don’t have their breasts on my hands at the moment! Te—hee!”

You glare at her.

“Sorry, they like to make me say things like that. Why do you even want them? I can tell you aren’t the same type as one of our clients.”

“They’re not for me.”

“Ah. Well, our policy states that you cannot purchase a service for someone else outside of special circumstances, but I’d guess you don’t care about that.”

“No, I don’t. Now get them.”

“Right away, sir.”

The woman leaves, and when she returns brings two scantily clad women, a blonde and a redhead. Judging from the roots, neither of their hair colors are natural, and you are also fairly certain that their breasts have been heavily surgically augmented. Hmm, that might be a problem for the Toad Sage.

“Hi, my name is Kira!”

“And my name is Mira!”

“We’re happy to serve you!” They say in unison.

You turn to the woman at the front desk.

“Their breasts aren’t natural. This might be a problem for the man they are intended for. Get new ones.”

“Can’t, sorry, you should have specified. All of our girls have ‘upgrades’ so you’ll have to look somewhere else.”

You start looking somewhere else, namely at her sizable breasts. They were natural.

“You will do fine.”

“Excuse me? I work at the front desk, not in the back rooms!”

“I don’t care. How much?”

“I don’t let myself be used like that. I’m not like all the other sluts here.”

“Hey!” shout Kira and Mira in unison.

“Did you hear me the first time? I don’t care. How much?”

She sighs.

“Look, sir, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

“How much?”

“Sir.”

“Look, everything has a price. You wouldn’t be working here if your morals weren’t already loose enough for that to be true. Now, how much?”

“GET OUT!”

She shoves you out the door. Damn, that was a bust. Alright, guess you had to go somewhere else.
>>
>>1863155
You track down a brothel that advertises natural-only breasts, then purchase the services of the Kawaguchi sisters, a set of raven-haired and large-breasted twins that seem to have the rough intelligence of an ant. Thankfully, they probably fit much closer to what the Toad Sage desires, so they’ll do. You doubt he values intelligence in his women, after all.

When you bring them to the Toad Sage, he doesn’t look impressed. Damn it, what now?

“Are these prostitutes?”

“Yes.”

“You have much to learn, then. Prostitutes are for chumps who aren’t able to attract women, not the mighty Toad Sage Jiraiya-sama! I only patronize the finest of hostess clubs, not those miserable brothels. That being said…”

He fondles the two twins’ breasts. They let out giggles that seem like they were meant to sound flirtatious but end up sounding as fake as they probably are.

“Ah, that’s the stuff. Anyway, do better next time. Also, I’m not paying for these.”

“Well, I already paid for them.”

“Really?”

He grabs the two girls and shunshins away. For fucks sake.

>Try and chase him down. You are not letting him get away with this, damn it.

“KAIMON, OPEN!”

The energy from the first gate invigorates your muscles, and you don’t so much as jump the way the Toad Sage went as you launch yourself like a bullet in that direction. You spot him right away, entering a hotel room through the window with the two nervous-looking Kawaguchi sisters in his arms, his hands groping their breasts.

“You aren’t anything compared to Tsunade, but for today, you’ll do,” he says.

You follow him, leaping into the hotel room to find him already fumbling to take off his clothes.

“Jiraiya-sama. Either give me information on Orochimaru, or reimburse me for the price of those whores.”

“No can do. My wallet’s not exactly full right now, and talking about Orochimaru will make my dick go down. Maybe later.”

With your first gate enhanced speed, you swiftly pick up the Kawaguchi sisters and begin performing the speed for the handseals. Jiraiya is already on you, though. Shit, the only way you’ll be able to escape with them is going even further beyond your limits, and activating more gates.

“SEIMON, OPEN!”

With the rush of blood flowing through you, displaying the characteristic red skin of the third gate, you are just fast enough to avoid the Toad Sage’s first strike and complete the seals for shunshin. Once you are on the roof of the neighboring building, you start running like hell.

“Hey, come back here!” shouts Jiraiya, but you ignore him and just keep running.

Your speed is now great enough to run back to the brothel they came from, and return them. By that point, though, Jiraiya has caught up with you.

“Kuchiyose: Gamaguchi Shibari!”

You find yourself suddenly in what looks to be the inside of some large creature’s body. Some sort of slime is dripping off of the red walls. Shit, were you inside one of his toad summons? No, Jiraiya was here too, he wouldn’t have to swallow himself too, right?

“Sorry, but you were in the way of my research.”

Suddenly, tentacles emerge from the walls. They grab hold of you, and too your shock not even the strength of the third gate is enough to break free. You continue to struggle, but to no avail. You’d need to activate further gates to escape.

Damn it. There was no way you were going to make it out of this. You deactivate the third gate, and the exhaustion hits you swiftly. You barely retain consciousness.

“I have to admit, you have balls, you know that?”

You glare at Jiraiya.

“Listen, you don’t have to be ashamed. No one has ever escaped this jutsu before.”

Your glare does not subside.

“Oh, come on. Don’t pout so much, you’re a grown ass man. I’ll release you from the jutsu, but only on one condition.”

You grit your teeth.

“What is it?”

“You still owe me a session with those whores. We can talk about Orochimaru afterwards.”

“I don’t have enough money left."

"Oh. Too bad. In that case, guess you have to find me someone that isn’t a whore. By tomorrow morning, or I’m not telling you a thing. What do I look like, a charity case? See you later.”

He releases the jutsu, and you collapse on the street in the middle of the red light district. He shunshins away as you gasp for breath. The hold those tentacles had on you was tight. You figure he could have suffocated you if he wanted, which was probably what he was going to do if you had resisted any further. Good thing you didn’t.

You lay on the street for several minutes. The third gate took a lot out of you, but not enough to need immediate medical attention. Give it some time and you should recover. While you are panting on the side of the road, the woman at the desk from earlier walks by, smoking a cigarette.

“Are you okay?” she asks.

You grunt.

“My shift’s over, but the brothel has rooms for rent if you need somewhere to stay. You look like shit.”

You grunt.

“Like, seriously. You looked pretty rough before but now you’re just a total train-wreck.”

You grunt.

“Not saying a word, huh?”

You grunt.

“Stop that. It’s annoying. I’m just trying to help you, okay? Considering how much of an ass you were earlier, you should be glad I even care.”

You glare at her, and then grunt as loudly as possible.

"Oh, you are such a charmer, you know that?"

“And you are very irritating,” you say, and then forehead poke her into unconsciousness.

Hmm, perhaps you shouldn’t leave an unconscious woman’s body in the middle of the street in the red light district, especially considering night is starting to fall. That poke was a bit of an overreaction on your part. To be fair, though, the dumb bitch should have minded her own business. You forehead poke her back into consciousness, and her eyes start flying around wildly.

“What she fuck…” she whispers, confused.

“Never talk to me again. I have no need for your pity.”

“What the hell are you on about?”

“Shut up, whore.”

You get up and leave, heading back for your apartment to munch on ration bars and brood until morning.

I doubt shino has the bloodline needed for it.

Here you go.

Archived this thread. Next session should be about 3pm tomorrow, though I started late today and might very well start late tomorrow due to the horrors of the NYC public transit system.

In before Shino learns how to spawn badass type insects.

So was ice style but assholes in both a movie and kakshi's book use it despite the Yuki being gone
>>
>>1863540
I get the feeling when Jiraiya dies Kirai will finally be happy for all of a second
>>
>>1863909
Yeah, but it'll be the 3rd's death that actually hits us pretty hard.
>>
>>1863819
That's just poor writing decisions, and the family who use Lava still exist unlike Ice.
>>
>>1863620
I stopped following Naruto after Pain's attack in konoha. So i didn't knew about that.
>>
>>1863666
Dam nice catch Satan.
>>
>>1864018
Maybe we should aim to be hokage after the thirds death
>>
>>1864054
Who the fuck would ever support it? Why would Kirai even want to be Hokage?
>>
>>1864061
>>1864054
Yeah, there's more of a chance that Itachi will become Hokage before us.

I say we just throw our hat in with Danzo.
>>
>>1864018
Nah it'll be something we all overlook. Like the death of the guy from the store. "I wasted minutes of my life saving him and he goes and gets himself killed" Or Hinata's "death" maybe
>>
>>1864061
I dunno
Only reason i brought it up is because we haven't really done anuthing like it yet
>>
>>1864079

Speaking about that, Kirai is really quite the goal-less ninja. He pretty much lives only to be a murder machine and probably he only got to jounin rank because surviving the wars was good enough to promote people rather than actively pass exams to do it.

I wonder if Kirai will ever find a meaning to his life or he will simply live to obey orders and sometimes make some heads explode if they let him.
>>
>>1864161
Nah he's just gonna get garroted one day like Luca brasi
>>
>>1864165

That would be a hilarious end for Kirai. And thus, he died like he lived, being an asshole and mumbling something about brats and being shitty
>>
>>1864192
>>1864165
>>1864161
>implying Kirai is going to let someone kill him
He's going to kill himself using the gates, literally the only way forward for this guy.
>>
>>1864224
We'll probably get BTFO by pain
>>
>>1864231
>We take out half the paths before we die
>>
>>1864231
Pain is a worthy foe to die to I guess.
>>
>>1864300
Maybe like, 1-2 man
That shit was OP

Hmm.... could Pein reconstruct someone who used all 8 gates?
>>
>>1864511
Keep in mind, shit's already going to be different.

Team 8 will probably end up being stronger than team 7, even with Naruto's infinite chakra bs.

I mean damn, we already killed Baki, so we've inadvertently saved coughy instructor, unless someone else kills him.
>>
>>1864554
Ok, somone please fill me in on what we've changed from canon so far?
>>
>>1864695
Srill waiting for OP's word in how our kids went. They are still in the forest of death so i guess if we want we can go see the second part of the exam. Were the kids fight each other, but i doubt Kirai would care enough to go see the kids since he would do better use of such time trainning.
>>
>>1864554
I wouldn't go that far. I'd say we've upped everybody's Stamina and Taijutsu skills by 1 point on the Ninja Stats thing. Kiba's going to be the one you see the most development in, but it'd take a miracle for him to take out Sasuke.
>>1864695
We killed Baki(The Sand Jounin who was in charge of Gaara during the Chuunin exams), and I believe we inadvertently gave Gaara a heads up on the Gates, so Lee might be more fucked up than in Canon.
>>
>>1864708
Nah, seeing the kids is exactly what Kirai would do, so he can berate all their mistakes as soon as they're done. Maybe even during the match.
>>
>>1864715
Killing baki might make it possible for cough guy to tell the hokage about whats gonna happen
Heres hoping for a full tourney
>>
>>1865772
This is assuming that Orochimaru even complies with Sand. Remember that Baki was Orichimaru's inside man in the Sand village, so Kazekage might not even be die during the exams.

Also, if Baki is dead this means there's no one to guide Gaara during the actual attack should it even occur.
>>
>>1865874
>if Baki is dead this means there's no one to guide Gaara during the actual attack

Did Baki even interact with Gaara after the Attack started?
Didn't it immediately go to Sasuke chasing Kankuro and Temari carrying Gaara away?
And then by the end of that sequence was the Naruto & Gamabunta vs Shukaku?
And then Kankuro and Temari just carry Gaara off again
