You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

It had already been a couple of days since your return from the most recent recon mission into the Dark Zone, and you had been mercilessly and continuously debriefed during that whole time over what had happened.

Of course, you tried to recall everything that was said between you and the Stranger, but the true value was in that decryption key he had given you. You had no idea how it worked, but Vahlen was able to use it to "crack" all the data she had retrieved from the captured Re-class, and considering the Admiral had called for a fleetwide briefing, it must had borne some fruit.

Of course, you could hear whispers and mutterings among the the shipgirls as you walk among them to the briefing room. A meeting of this scale hadn't been done since the Bering Strait assault, meaning a similarly massive operation was imminent.

You happened to be heading to the briefing...

"You fucking serious?" Woel frowns as you tell her the story of what you'd found out from the Stranger. "This is all literally a game to him?"

"Apparently." You sigh.

"What a fucking asshole." Woel scowls as she cracks her knuckles. "I got half a mind to track him down and give him a good beating after all this is over."

"How are you going to even find him?" You ask.

"Oh I'll find a way, you'll see!" Woel assures you with an evil grin.

"Pretty sure there's better things to waste our time on." You roll your eyes.

"Really?" Woel frowns. "I mean, I guess we'll have a lot of free time, assuming we do kick the Abyssals out of here. I guess I never thought about what we'd do after, honestly."

"I guess nobody has." You shrug.

"Yeah, well, I guess it's starting to creep up because it feels like we're actually close to ending this thing." Woel points out. "Assuming you don't die horribly, you have any thoughts of what to do after this?"

"We can always share~!" You chuckle as you nudge your half-Abyssal twin back.

"That's not going to work and you know it." Woel grunts. "I don't wanna be a third wheel or anything."

You're about to give her a witty response when you suddenly realize that you're at the briefing room. You and Woel go quiet as you file in, the room already packed to the brim with shipgirls.

And at the head of the room were the Admiral and Captain, as always, though both of them had grim looks on their faces, which was probably why the mood of the room was abuzz with anxiety and concern.

"Ladies." The Captain nods when he figures everybody is present. "Time is short, so we'll get this started right away."

The projector activates, showing a frighteningly detailed map of the Dark Zone. One of the things they pulled from the Re-class' head? Either way, there was one area of interest circled in bright red, the site of the Abyssal Colossus which looked treacherously close to completion.

"As you can probably tell, this mission will be to move in and destroy the Abyssal Colossus." The Captain announces grimly. "We have credible intelligence that this weapon is nearly complete, and our window of time is only a matter of days before it is operational."

There's a lot of mutterings in the crowd, but they are silenced by the Captain's glare.

"We are not aware of it's full capabilities, but we have determined that the best course of action will be to destroy the Colossus before it can 'awaken'." He continues. "Fortunately, we do have a better idea of the defenses surrounding the Colossus."

More circles appear on the image, indicating areas where Abyssal fleets patrolled and where stationary fortifications had been set up. It was certainly a tough looking nut crack.

"As you can see, a conventional frontal attack will be unlikely to break through the defenses." The Captain points out. "But there is one weakness that we can exploit."

He then points to a long, thin line crossing the defenses and heading directly into the Colossus.

"This appears to be some sort of pipeline feeding supplies to the Colossus. We believe that it's large enough to fit some of our smaller shipgirls, who will infiltrate the Colossus via this pipeline, plant a B61 tactical nuclear bomb, and then evacuate."

"Then what are the rest of us supposed to do?" Iowa asks.

"Because we still cannot bring conventional forces through the Storm Wall, it will be up to our shipgirl force to stage a diversionary attack on the Abyssal defenses." The Captain explains. "Our European allies will also be attacking from the opposite side to force the Abyssals to spread their forces thinner, giving our infiltration team a chance."

"And who exactly will be part of this infiltration team?" Nagato asks, arms crossed.

"It will be a joint American, European, and Japanese team." The Captain answers. "Based on performance, Hoel, Haida, and Fubuki will the primary members, with Pacifica providing heavy support."

"I'm more worried about Paz getting roped into this." You sigh.

"Yeah, well, not much sense just letting her sit around, I guess." Woel shrugs.

"Further instructions will be sent to individual squadron commanders." The Captain continues. "You are dismissed for now, with the exception of the infiltration team. Hoel, Haida, Fubuki, front and center."

You have to fight through the stream of shipgirls to get to the stage as the other head for the exit. You give Woel a nod as the two of you split up, and soon the whole room, once packed full of shipgirls, was ominously empty.

"I know this is a lot to ask of you girls." The Admiral sighs once the last shipgirl leaves. "But given the seriousness of this mission, we simply have no room to ask for volunteers."

"I would've done it anyways." Haida assures him.

"M-me too!" Fubuki nods.

"Well, you know me." You shrug.

"Thank you." The Admiral seems to be a bit relieved. "As said before, it be you three and Pacifica transporting a nuclear bomb into the heart of the Colossus. Pacifica already knows how to handle and arm the device, and she will teach you the process and the arming codes."

"Then why do you need us here?" You ask.

"Because I want your input. Do you think this composition is enough?" The Admiral's eyes dart among you all as the Captain remains silent. "We opted to bring as few shipgirls as possible to minimize chances of detection, but I won't blame you if you felt you needed a larger team to handle this."

"We could use a few more bodies." You nod. "If we're going to be pretty much kicking the beehive..."

"Understandable." The Admiral nods. "Then who are your picks?"

"If possible... Athabaskan." Haida says. "Blys is dependable, but she's not really suited to an infiltration mission like Athy is."

"Yuudachi!" Fubuki says extremely quickly. "It always makes me feel at ease when she's around!"

"Hoel?" The Admiral turns to you.

"Hey, I'll be fine." Sam smiles as she tugs at the Admiral's sleeve. "I promise."

"I will hold you up to that." The Admiral grunts and turns back to you. "We will be deploying tomorrow, so I suggest that if you have any unfinished business, you take care of it now."

"Gotcha." You nod.

As you leave the briefing room, you decide to head off to meet Anna. You haven't really been able to see her the past few days due to all of the debriefings, and you were really starting to miss her already. While the other destroyers were heading off to meet Paz to train on how to work the nuclear bomb, you at least could have Paz just directly upload the knowledge to you through your datalink.

Speaking of the datalink, you flip it on to talk to Anna.

"Yo, Anna, where are you?" You ask.

"O-oh, Hoel!" You can feel Anna's happiness radiate from her, warming you like rays of sunlight. "Ummmm, I'm just taking care of some stuff in my room. What do you need?"

"Actually, now that you think about it, had you ever been to Anna's room? Usually you had her come over to yours, or you just hung out somewhere else. Weird.

"W-well, I gotta clean up stuff and preparing some things!" Anna stammers. "Y-you can come over, but just give me a minute!"

The first thing you notice when you enter the room is how... hardcore it is. Lining the walls and even the ceiling were posters of various bands and musical groups, ranging from classical orchestras to pop groups, jazz icons, and heavy metal bands. Not surprising for a audiophile like her.

The second thing you note is how she has a very seriously beefy looking computer system, coupled with the largest and most elaborate system you've ever seen. Christ, it looked like a backup Rig or something!

And the third thing you noticed was the music blaring out of the speakers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TrZFxhrPUI

"What the fuck...?" You mumble before your radar warns you of a bogey in your rear. You immediately sidestep and you hear Anna wail as her attempted tackle misses and she falls past you, hitting the ground face first.

And...was she wearing a MAID UNIFORM?!

"Anna!?" You blink confused.

"Owowowowowow..." Anna whimpers, getting back up to her knees as she rubs at her forehead. "And I thought I could get the jump on you..."

"Were you just...waiting there so you could tackle me?" You ask.

"W-well, you're always so confident and forward when we're together, s-so I wanted to try it, too!" Anna explains, her antenna twitching wildly.

"All right, Anna." You grin as you lie back on her bad. "Do your worst, then..."

Anna's antenna shoots straight up.

---

"You're in an awfully good mood, poi." Yuudachi frowns as she pokes you in the cheek.

"Huh?" You blink as you you're shaken out of your trance. Well, if Yuudachi hadn't done it, it would've been the major turbulence the Osprey had just hit, rocking the aircraft.

"You have this big smile on your face, poi!" Yuudachi pouts. "You weren't having fun last night without us, were you?"

"Oh, I had fun all right~." You grin smugly.

"Poooooooooi." Yuudachi's pout intensifies. "You should've invited me over, then!"

"Trust me, Yuudachi, it's probably not the kind of fun you're thinking of." Sam shakes her head.

"Poi?" Yuudachi blinks in confusion.

"Come on, you've got all your sisters to play with, Yuudachi!" Fubuki chuckles as she pats her fellow Japanese destroyer on the shoulder. "Don't try to impose yourself on Hoel!"

"Yeah, we've got Shigure for that." Sam mutters.

"What did you say?" You grunt as you glare at Sam.

"Huh? What game did Shigure play with you?" Paz asks, her eyes flashing with curiosity.

"Not the time, Paz!" You say quickly.

"Are... are you sure this is all right, Haida?" The new shipgirl, Athabaskan asks her sister.

"They're just blowing off steam. It's fine." Haida assures her.

You didn't really know Athabaskan all that well, but Haida vouched for her, and you trusted her judgment on these matters. The Canadian still eyes you all nervously, though, as if you were all slightly crazy or something.

And this was completely ignoring the nuclear bomb sitting in the aisle between you all. You didn't really envy the Osprey pilot.

"Reaching the DZ in five minutes!" The pilot announces. "Prepare for drop!"

You look over to Paz.

"So uh, hey, Paz, you mind giving us one more rundown on how this thing is supposed to work?" You ask as you tap your toe against the bomb.

All of the other shipgirls wince at your apparent recklessness.

"Oh don't worry, it's a nuclear device, not nitroglycerin!" Paz laughs. "A simple tap like that won't set it off!"

"Still..." Haida gulps.

"The nice thing about nuclear weapons is that they require an extremely, EXTREMELY specific set of circumstances to occur in order to detonate!" Paz further explains. "Anyways, you all have your keys, right?"

"Yeah." You nod as you reach into your pocket and pull out a small, silver metallic key that the Captain had given you. All the other shipgirls do the same.

"Good! Because that's the first step!" Paz says as she stands up and walks to the bomb. She opens up a panel on the side and sticks the key into a keyhole and turns. The panel then immediately lights up, causing everybody to recoil.

"Don't worry, like I said before, it's only the arming key!" Paz chuckles. "This just activates the device so you can input the PAL code! Now, once you do THAT, the bomb will activate a thirty minute timer! And then it will explode!"

"Hopefully we'll be far enough away by then." Athabaskan grumbles.

"Hopefully!" Paz nods in agreement.

"All right, so I think we need to decide who will handle the bomb." Haida points out. "It's pretty big and heavy, so I think we'd have to dedicate two of us to carry it.

"Don't worry, I can carry it on my own!" Paz assures everyone.

"B-but you're our main firepower!" Fubuki speaks up. "It seems like a waste to make you the bomb carrier!"

"Hmmm, I guess you may have a point..." Paz concedes.

"Me and Sam can handle it." You assure everybody.

"All right." Haida nods.

"We'll leave it to you, then." Athabaskan nods in unison.

God, it was so weird seeing two Canadians nodding in sync like that.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to protect you two!" Paz cheers.

"Well, that's great and all, because we're at the LZ!" The pilot barks as the Osprey's boarding ramp lowers.

Haida, Athabaskan, Fubuki, and Yuudachi are the first to leap you. You and Sam pause for a bit to pick up the bomb. Thankfully, Shen or one of his engineers was foresighted enough to weld some handles onto it to make it easier to carry. You and Sam each grab a handle and carry it out, with Paz bringing up the rear.

"The others should be starting the diversionary attack right about now." Haida says, checking her watch. "We need to get moving to the pipeline."

"Let's go, then!" Athabaskan says as she dives into the Storm Wall. She was definitely a veteran if she could just jump into a hazard like that with no hesitation.

>Move at full speed. You need to get to the pipeline as soon as possible.

"Good idea." Haida nods. "Sam, is that stealth device working?"

"Already fired it up." Sam nods.

"Yeah! Let's go then!" Paz cheers, still as enthusiastic as ever.

Thankfully, you don't come across any Abyssals. No patrols, not even a random roving work party. The thunder of heavy guns and the glow of fires in the distance probably explained why. Sounded like the others were raising some serious hell for you.

"Look! We found it, poi!" Yuudachi chimes as she points to the pipeline.

"Well of course." Haida sighs.

The pipeline was... exactly what it looked like. Most likely it was stolen or salvaged from an oil pipeline or drilling platform. Either way, it's a simple matter to shut off the flow of oil and open up the access hatch. Almost immediately you're hit in the face with the stench of oilblood.

To your amusement, Fubuki takes one whiff and nearly passes out, only narrowly saved by Yuudachi. Sam wrinkles her nose and Haida and Athabaskan don't seem affected at all. Paz's face scrunches up in disgust.

"Ewwwwww!" She whines.

"Well, who's going to have the honor of taking point?" Haida asks.

Well, Paz had the most firepower, Haida and Athabaskan were the most experienced and Fubuki and Yuudachi were... well... the most spirited...?

"Fubuki, Yuudachi, take the lead." You say.

"Roger, poi!" Yuudachi salutes and leaps down into the hatch.

Fubuki is a little more hesitate, and requires a "helpful" nudge from Haida to get her in.

"It still smells so baaaaad!" She whines.

"All right, you two next." Haida nods to you. "We'll take up the rear."

"Right." You nod as you leap in first, your feet splashing against pools of oilblood. Crap, this stuff wasn't going to get off your shoes anytime soon. "Okay! Pass it down!"

Sam gently lowers the bomb through the hatch, which you grab.

Soon enough, all of you are in the pipe and moving steadily. You were going to have to move fast, since the Abyssals were eventually going to notice that the flow from the pipeline had stopped...

Another explosion rocks the pipe, causing the whole structure to vibrate haphazardly. This of course does nothing to calm any of your nerves. Yuudachi just presses forward while Fubuki jumps at every sound. You have to keep nudging her forward to keep up with Yuudachi, and you can't really tell what's happening behind you.

Thankfully, you finally reach the end of the pipe. Unfortunately, it discharges into a larger pool of oilblood, and you're all forced to jump down into it, getting more of the foul gunk stuck on your Rig and clothes.

Again, there were no signs of any Abyssals. It was starting to get a bit ominous.

"All right, we're in." Haida says as she secures a perimeter. "Paz, what's our best target?"

"Well, from the data, there's three possible places." Paz says. "We can aim for the center of the Colossus, where it's heart is. But it's most likely the most heavily defended section, and there's not many clear escape routes."

"Which is a serious consideration when we're setting off a nuclear bomb!" Athabaskan reminds you all.

"Or, we can plant it further down at the waist." Paz continues. "At worst, the blast will take off the legs, so it'll still buy us time. And there's some, er, openings we can use to get out quicker!"

"Lets head for the lower portion of this thing, then." You say, trying to gain your bearings. However, the inside of this thing was completely dark, with countless narrow tunnels snaking everywhere like an ant colony. How could anyone possibly navigate this shit?

"Don't worry, follow me!" Paz says as she takes the lead, her eyes glowing as she undoubtedly accesses the Re-class memories.

Meanwhile, the air seems to get warmer and you can feel a constant vibration through the walls, reminding you of a heartbeat. Could that mean...?

"They must be trying to get the Colossus moving." Haida muses.

"Well, that's one of their contingency plans in case of attack!" Paz confirms. "That's why we have to hurry!"

Fortunately, you still come across no Abyssal presence. Was it possible that there were no more in here?

Nevertheless, your small squad dashes through the winding halls, all dripping with oilblood and covered in a mixture of carapace and pale flesh. However, you get the uncomfortable feeling that you're dashing through what used to be the old hallways of the cannibalized ship hulls used in this thing's construction.

Again, there no sight of any Abyssal as Paz slides to a stop.

"Here!" She points to a small cavity in the wall. "We can plant the bomb here!"

Without wasting a second, you and Sam set down the bomb where Paz indicated. Sam inserts her arming key and twists, and the keypad lights up. You carefully enter the PAL code.

And then the timer lights up, slowly counting down from 30 minutes.

"Okay, let's go go GO!" You bark. "Paz, where's our exit?"

"There!" Paz points to a hole leading to a long tube snaking downwards like a slide. "It's the err.... waste hatch."

"Of course it is." You groan as you take a deep breath and leap in.

You which you could say that being ejected from the Colosuss' figurative and literal asshole was somewhat dignified. However, none of you cared at that point.

After all, you had only under half an hour to outrun a nuke, and you still had an entire Abyssal fleet between you and safety...
