You are Gerrard Xavier, an Aspiring Duelist who ended up in the top 4 of the Kaibacorp Begginers Tournament.

During the tournament, you encountered a never before seen type of a monster - the so-called Xyz monster, which somehow seems to have the power to render people unconscious, as expierienced by both you and your... good acquaintance Wisteria in the Final.

You're both fine now and have decided to go to the store.

Making a post right now. Pretty long.
>>
>>1870538
Fuck this is gonna take a lot of autism. Also holy fuck the character limit is 3K on /qst/.

First we should make note of which cards are 100% mandatory.
>3x Nimble Momonga (swarm + healing)
>1x Rescue Cat (THE BEST)
>1x Book of Moon (quick play denial)
>1x Ayers Rock Sunrise (SS + debuff)
>1x Monster Reborn (THE BEST)
>1x Rush Recklessly (quick play 700 atk)
>1x Pot of Duality (draw power but at the cost of denying us SS for that turn)
>1x Graceful Charity (draw power, good if we have or get cards that need to go to grave on us)
>1x Nobleman of Extermination (hard backrow removal)
>1x Windstorm of Etaqua (makes some monsters easier to take out in defense mode)
>1x Dust Tornado (backrow removal)
>2x Negate attack (buying time)
>1x Sakuretsu Armor (would rather have Magic Cylinder but this works)
So far, this makes 4 monsters, 6 spells, 5 traps. Leaving room for 25 more monsters.

If we're gonna forego Sea Koala Tree Otter Koalo-Koala Polymerization for synchro potential, then that gives us a few more spots for other cards. Uniflora/Kalantosa/Valerifawn should also be reconsidered, as most of our synchros are at least level 5 - though a few of them might work still. Yellow Baboon and Green Baboon are a choice of either banishing two Beasts from our grave, or sacrificing 1K LP, unsure which one to pick. Key Mouse is a good searcher for level <3 Beasts. Lock Cat is made to bring back Key Mouse, easy Armory Arm with Key Mouse sac. Chain Dog requires Beasts, can only be made for Beasts - Barkion and Gaia are not Beasts. 3 Assault Dogs are good swarm like the Momongas. 1 Mine Mole could be good enough for the deck.
Moja engine with Beast Striker and King of the Beasts needs King in grave or hand with a Moja out alive. Doesn't feel worth using in our deck here.
Reading the effect, Familiar doesn't seem too worth it.
>You can remove from play 1 monster you control other than this card to remove this card from play. The attacking monster must attack.
Just exposes us to a direct attack for nothing. If we want a level 2 Beast Tuner, we have Valerifawn and/or Elephuns for that.
Egotistical Apes can be worth having one in the deck, maaaaaybe two. Two Giant Rats are necessary for searching and SSing from deck. Tanngrisnr death summoning two level 3 tokens can be an easy Uni/Bi/Tricorn Synchro depending on the level of tuner we can bust out right after. SNMH is great to have in the deck for searching and defensive bulk. Cyber Dragon can be good I guess, but Lightning Tricorn needs a non-tuner Beast so ehhhh. D.D. Assailant won't work in our deck. Gigantes is only good for suicide nuking all backrow on the field and we have to banish an Earth in the grave for him, is it really worth it? The Rock Spirit is even less worth. Effect Veiler is good, but almost all our Synchros need a Beast or Earth tuner so he'll only be in the deck to get discarded to null.

cont.
>>
Zaborg might be good to have because he only takes one tribute and 2400 attack plus point nuke of any monster. Concealing Light does little good for our deck though having this might be handy if they have monsters out that keep doing shit effects to us while faceup, dunno. Night Beam is really really good for being a non-quickplay MST but we have enough spells already don't we? Very tempted by Nobleman of Crossout but its not too worth it against the big guys even with the Concealing Light combo. Rivalry of Warlords is a big BIG gamble to have and use and might easily fuck us like Vanity's. Phoenix Wing Wind Blast is nice but bouncing the set backrow to the top of their deck only delays the inevitable honestly.

Cyber Valley is such a good card I wouldn't mind having it in our deck. Hyenas are also good for swam like the Momongas and Assault Dogs. One Poison Fangs can be good in the deck for 500 meme burn damage. Having Dandylion in the deck can potentially help with Synchros.

Our Extra Deck monster levels, in order listed in >>1870534 are 5, 6, 6, 4, 5, 7, 8, 6 (fusion). I would go over our monster levels in detail too but I'm tired already from this much posting. I think pre-errata OG Rescue Cat memeing is also extremely viable to get to some of our Synchros, but we need other staples to ensure we don't fucking BRICK.

And I'm done.
>>
>>1870588
Makes sense, Anon. How would you make the deck, if you could? Seeing as I'm the Anon that "revised" the deck prior to the fight against Wisteria, I don't think I'm qualified to make this deck properly.
>>

>>1870706
Looks pretty good, anon. Though the Uniflora in a deck where we have monsters that aren't Beasts may prove to be an issue. Still, let's wait on the other Anons to come forth with their own suggestions.
>>
>>1870711
The fact that Uniflora is a revive for ANY Beast, regardless of level or what have you, was too great a temptation.
>>
>>1870706
>>1870711
I'm surprised you're not using the most recently opened cards like the second Cat, Mouse and dog, as well as the other level 4 synchro.
>>
>>1870730
fuck I completely forgot about those goddamn
-2 uniflora
+1 Lock Cat
+1 Key Mouse
+Blank Synchro (because it might NOT be Void Ogre Dragon still, who knows?)
>>
>>1870732
>-2 Uniflora
You sure you want to remove your main combo extender/recycler, and not instead remove cards which don't do shit in your deck, like...
>Cyber Valley
>Zaborg
>Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest (read the card)
>>
You guys, we really dont need a massive overhaul. Lemme look over our new cards real quick and I'll post my suggestion.
>>
>>1870736
Well fuck, all that looking up cards and shit wore me out. I would want Zaborg and Green Baboon removed instead then, because Cyber Valley despite not being a Beast OR Earth is simply really good. But I'd rather have >>1870752 give their suggestion first if anything.
>>
Okay, lets swap our two uni horned familiars for two egotistical apes. It's just a faster card, with an effect which is less likely to screw us.

Next we take out the assault dogs. We have other swarm options that are better, so let's replace them with a second copy each of chain, lock, and key.

Next, our beast strikers are just too niche. If we already have our Moja s out, they become worse than a berserk gorilla. Let's replace them with two copies of giant rat. Now that we have a main phase 2, we'll be able to crash our rat, then activate rescue cat's effect in the main phase 2 and go off on synchro plays. And rescue cat is our best card.

Let's replace one elephun with our second valerifawn. They both occupy the same level 2 tuner slot, but vakerifawn's effect will be more relevant almost always.

Let's add leodrake because there's no reason not to.

I'm thinking about swapping rush recklessly with the big match of animals, but I want to test the deck first.
>>
>>1870837
To sum the up:
-2 uni-horned familiars
-3 assault dogs
-2 beast strikers
-1 elephun

+2 egotistical apes
+1 lock/chain/key
+2 giant rats
+1Valerifawn

And in the extra deck
+1Leodrake

What do you think?
>>
>>1870853
>>1870837
I think we should do >>1870706 but with
-1 Elephun
-3 Assault Dog
+1 Lock Cat
+1 Chain Dog
+1 Key Mouse
+1 Valerifawn
And now the ratios should be good enough to get us whatever we may or may not need. I forgot about our second Valerifawn too so my bad. So does all this sound okay?
>>
>>1870884
Not really, you're still running random shit like dandylion that shut off our biggest plays.

Don't you want to trigger rescue cat 4 times in one turn?
>>
>>1870893
Yeah I do, but what else do we remove and replace from >>1870706? There's Zaborg, Green Baboon, and Dandylion. What do we replace them with?
>>
>>1870897
>>1870893
It's clear everybody is on the rescue cat loops train so the easy answer is run more spells and traps. We don't have enough. 12 is really low.

Phoenix wing wind blasts outs extra deck and tribute monsters and it overall super versatile, it also gets rid of facedown monsters that we dont want to deal with. Remember, spinning an extra deck monster sends it back to the extra deck.

If we're 100% beast, then there is no downside to running rivalry of the warlords.

Night beam is solid spell trap removal and we're very low on that, put those in for an easy all beast switch.
>>
>>1870904
But what do we remove for them?
>>
>>1870908
you literally just asked what we replace zabord, baboon and dandylion with
>>
>>1870909
Okay I'm an idiot.

So we do >>1870706 but with the changes in >>1870884
and
-1 zaborg
-1 cyber valley
-1 dandylion
+1 rivalry of the warlords
+1 night beam
+1 phoenix wing wind blast
ending up with all our monsters being 100% Beasts. Do we have ANYTHING else that we can do now, or can we continue the quest now that our deck is going to be as good as it gets for a day or two?
>>
>>1870913
IS that the final edit?
>>
>>1870913
Can we swap super nimble mega hamster out for a kalantosa, and Nordic goat for a second mine mole?
>>
>>1870965
You see, it's just that super nimble mega hamster will almost always be triggering on our opponents turn, giving them the chance to attack whatever we've set, but the only thing we would want them to do that to is our momongas, but we're almost always going to have drawn and triggered our momongas before we draw super nimble mega hamster. And Kalantosa was an all-star player in our old deck, and now we aren't running any.

In fact, I kind of don't like rivalry of the warlords because barkion, arguably our second or third best card, is a dragon. I'd actually rather run a kalantosa over rivalry, but that one's not as clear a choice.

And Nordic goat is slower and doesn't boost our game plan, unlike mine mole.
>>
>>1870947
Do >>1870965 and THEN we're at final edit. I'm glad that in-universe having us plan all this out in Gerrard's head is technically a free action.

You agree and go to Cafe La Geen with Wisteria, to drink cofee and eat cheesecake.

New locations unlocked:

After Wisteria's done you buy some Ice Cream for both of yoy. You roam around the city aimlessly for some time.

You turn to her.
>I've been thinking... I was always told I'm a great duelist, and from what I can tell you're not half bad either. We've both only participated in a begginers tier tournament so far, so it should be a walk in a park for us... but we already both got easily beaten by some guy who was lucky enough to get some card noone's seen before.
>We're entering the medium-tier tournament tomorrow. Before I came here, I thought I'd just easily place highly in the first two tournaments, just like I always did in school... But the last final was a wake-up call. I have already been bested, and have no idea what I can face further down the way. I was always so sure of my success as a duelist that I never considered a different path, and now I'm kinda scared...

The sun was not even nearly setting, but Wisteria was visibly exhausted. CAn't blame her, she woke up in a hospital this morning. You decide you'd like to have some quality sleep before the new tournament yourself, say goodbye to Wisteria an-

Holy fuck it's been a while since you were hugged by a girl.

Tanngrisnir for Mine Mole
Mega Hamster for Kalantosa
put in <Unidentified Synchro>

The Three-headed Serpent is still there, but it's not alone. All around it are smaller black shapes, suspended unmoving within the void. Some of them seem vaugely humanoid, yet others seem like nothing but.

Someone calls your name, again and again and again, but you don't move an inch.

You leave:
3x Monoceros
4x Uni-Horned Familliar
1000 DP
You don't feel anything to be different one way or the other.

You head off to the Main Square...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

...and you're late. Seto Kaiba's already finishing his opening speech. Thankfully, it seems to be mostly the same shit as last time, noone noticed you coming late and you connect to the tournament's Duel Disk Network with no problem. You don't see Wisteria around, but not getting beaten the first thing in the tournament might be a good start.
>Other than the traditional format, Tag Duels, Free for All Duels and Ante Duels are allowed, assuming all parties participating accept the specific set of rules beforehand.
>Additionally, I confirm that using the new Xyz monsters is completely legal in the tournament. I am aware of the recent controversies, however our software was extensively modified to avoid further accidents.
>Without further ado, the tournament starts right now. Other organizers would wish you luck, but I know that luck is just an excuse for the weak to not feel bad about their losses. Impress me, Duelists.

I have some reservations about it, but is it too late to believe in the heart of the cards? Like, without having sacrificed anything to the duel spirits, which we fucking did, is there a way to prove that we care for our cards? They've proven they're living so it'd be nice to know they have our backs and we have theirs.
>>
Velo is 1700, Aeolo is 200, total 1900 Attack. Barkion is 1800 Defense.
I think the best way to go about this is to do maybe NS and crash Giant Rat into it, and SS something good from the deck. Or Pot of Duality and hope for something good in return for not being able to SS.
>>
>>1871755
Don't forget Jurassic world.

We'll have plays next turn, but since we don't have our koalo-koala engine any more, and barkion kills uniflora, we won't be able to do too much. We probably should have just tuned into tricorn instead of barkion last turn, but we didn't know the face down would be a quick play and not a trap.
>>
>>1871770
At least he has no backrow left right now outside of Jurrasic World. The fact that his monster can instakill defense modes a la Catastor is annoying as fuck. But its only for FACEDOWN defense modes. Nothing about faceup ones.

You decide to take a look at the exposition while you're there.

You see a bunch of various... stuff from different mythologies, showing things that would later become duel monsters.

There is some text about stone tablets being used to trap parts of mythological spirits and invoke their powers for both games and war. It's said that in most cases only parts of the spirits were trapped, allowing for the same monster to be trapped in various tablets at the same time.

There were exeptions to that, however, where the whole spirit was bound into one tablet, seemingly by accident. Monsters bound in such a way seemed more powerful and crafty in battles, moreover they seemed to show signs of live on their own.

Strange...

You try searching for some more clues on the exposition.

There is some stiff about spirits coming from a pararell world. Based on what you can understand, even in ancient times people distinguished between norman and effect monsters - based on whether they did anything but attack; moreover fusing monsters also was already a thing. Info about Synchro monsters is far more scarce, appearing only in a couple of mythologies, primarily Nordic and South American. They seem to be rare and hard to summon, requiring long training in order to manifest them. There's also some extremely old legend about three exeptionally powerful seprents almost freezing the world and being banished for that.

There is no info about what you could identify as Xyz monsters.

That will be our gimmick! We'll specialize in befriending duel spirits. Eventually we'll get so good we befriend our opponents duel spirit mid battle thus crippling them! Or more realistically (as realistic as duel spirits can get anyway) we cultivate a lot of similar ones that we won't necessarily have to split our attention between. We can basically befriend our entire deck to call on them all when needed.

>Well played! I can't wait to... wait, what's happening?

You notice that most of the people have left the museum, with the couple remaining rushing to the exit. From what you can hear, there's some commotion there. You both decide to check it out.

>...but after all these years, this is the end! Battle! Attack, Blue Eyes White Dragon, and end this farce once and for all!
>Not so fast, Kaiba! I activate Magician Navigation!
>>
>>1877782
oh shit someone is kicking Kaiba's ass. It must be tuesday already.
>>
I Special Summon my most Trusted Servant, Dark Magician, and his apprentice, Dark Magician Girl!
And what of them, Yugi? Your two Magicians are still too weak to face my Ulitimate Beast! Blue Eyes, attack Dark Magician!
>As I said, not so fast! I activate my trap card, Black Illusion! This turn, Dark Spellcasters I control can't be destroyed by battle!
>But you still take the damage!
Yugi 3000 --> 2500
>Blue Eyes, attack Dark Magician Girl!
Yugi 2500 --> 1500
>There's one more where that came from! Blue Eyes, attack Dark Magician Girl!
Yugi 1500 --> 500
>Face it, Yugi! wherever you've been for the past years, you wasted time while I got better! Finally, it's time to show you which one of us is the better one! Draw your last pathethic card and let's end this!
Turn 9
Kaiba 2500
Yugi 500

>Oh Kaiba, you never learn. I draw!
>I activate the Quick-play spell card, Dedication Through Light and Darkness! By tibuting my Ulitimate Magician, I can call forth his evolved form! Come forth, Dark Magician of Chaos!
>With its effect, I move Pot of Greed from my graveyard back to my hand, which I will now activate to draw 2 cards... the exact two cards I needed!

>Get on with it!
>Very well, I shall! I activate Monster Reborn! Appear once again, my Ulitimate Wizard!
Big deal! Quit stalling, we all know that none of your Magicians can take down my Dragons!!
>Not alone, they can't. But together, that's a different story! I activate Dark Burning Magic, destroying all your dragons, along with your face-down card!
>It's over, Kaiba! Battle! Attack, Dark Magician!
>Dark Magic Attack!

Kaiba 2500 --> 0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

>As you can see Kaiba, you're not the only one who's been practicing. Still, I have to say it's pretty nice of you to find me as soon as you hear I'm in the city.
>I couldn't give up a chance to beat you after you've been gone all this time, but I guess I'll still have other chances to do that. I'll see you in the Expert level tournament, Yugi.
He turns around and goes back to his Helicopter, which is shaped like the head of a Blue-Eyes white dragon.
>I've missed you too, Kaiba.
When Kaiba takes off, it's as if some warding spell momentarily broke, and Yugi is beset on all sides by duelists who have only been idly watching before.

What do you do?
>Search for duelists.

...

...but everyone's busy invading Yugi's personal space so you can't find any willing players.

>For the last time, people, I'm not participating in this tournament, and I'm not giving autographs, so let me go.

He slowly but steadily manages to get through the crowd, his hairdo akin to a Shark's fin in a sea of people. Finally, he emerges close to you. He looks at you for a second...

...then passes you.

You're not sure if something in your bag is shaking, or if it's just you.

Op, have you considered moving to fiction.live? I imagine you'd have a much larger player-base there, plus it's easy to communicate with the readers.
>>
>>1878148
akun is shit, shiiiiiit
>>
>>1878157
Well we have chuckles and beleagueredqm now who do you have? Sominus?
>>
>>1878175
Gobble and KoH?
>>
>>1878148
I could, of course, but I'm not feeling any real pull. I don't hate it here, and I'm stupid enough to still hope that one day they'll allow us back onto /tg/, foolish of a hope as that might be.

It's also important what you all prefer. I like it here and not know almost anything about the other place, but if all of my couple readers would prefer it out there then it could be arranged.
>>
>>1878175
Larro? Playmaker? QuestDrone?
>>
>>1878217
It all up to you man, you're the QM after all. Although I would recommend at least giving anonkun/fiction.live a look. It's not as complicated as it first seems.
>>
>>1878217
I like it here.
>>
>>1878225
There's also Grave
>>
>>1878217
FYI akun is melting down right now. Go look at the stuff about it on the /qtg/. The admins are making changes that are removing a lot of the quests on there and everyone is losing their fucking minds. Best to avoid that and just shill this quest here in the /qtg/ or maybe in /dng/ over at /vg/?
>>
>>1878217
Don't move to Akun. I'd prefer it if you could run here.
>>
>>1878217
I'd prefer staying here myself.
>>
>>1878217

Not sure if my vote means anything since I've only caught this quest a couple of times, but it'd be easier to occasionally catch it if it stayed here.
