You are James Baker, a wild card according to the mysterious figure known as Igor. After living in Birchland for some time you discovered "The Rift" with your friends. The Rift has been causing people to act like cliches and sterotypes.

After finally closing the first Rift, another was found to be open. This new one is effecting the P.H.A.T group working for better treatment of animals. Thanks to Natalie you learned of their plan to set free all the animals in the neighboring city's zoo.

When you brought Natalie into The Rift with you she was very nervous. With the help of the others you eventually got her to calm down, but while trying to gain access to the Tower Natalie was taken by Shadows. Eventually you found her and had a small confrontation with a White Robed figure before Natalie's Shadow appeared. Now with her Shadow taken down you may have another ally to close The Rifts.

It has been awhile since you talked to Mom or Dad. You can't recall a time you've gone longer not seeing them, it isn't like they ever sent you to a summer camp. Instead of replying to just your Dad you text both, "Things are going well and have a good day."

At this point you are too awake to go back to sleep, so you start to slowly get ready for the day. With it being Friday that means besides work the next two days will give you plenty of time to explore The Rift. You take your time doing everything and by the time you are done Carson walks out of his room.

His groggy eyes widen a little when he sees you fully dressed for the day, "Oh good morning James. New to see you up right now. Feel free to help yourself to some breakfast."

"Thanks, I think I'll grab something." You say with a yawn.

After breakfast you relax and watch some early morning news to see if anything is going on. There isn't anything new you notice, just mentions of incidents in Lynchburg. When time finally rolls around to head to school you wish Carson a good day and hop on your bike.

15 Days Remaining

You get to school with plenty of time before your first class of the day. But when you look down at your phone you notice a few worrying text from people. Natalie said she won't be able to help with the other place because of her chairty work, and Zoey said on Saturday she's gonna be busy with family stuff.

When first class starts up Martin lets you know he is still all free. The main school day flies by without much to worry about, and by the time lunch rolls around Zoey isn't really saying much. "So what kind of family stuff?" Martin tried to ask.

Zoey glared at Martin as she stabbed her salad, "How's about you stuff it."

Martin and you share a wince, something must be going on with Zoey. The latter half of the school day goes by as easily as the first, but in study hall Trish is missing again.

Once you finish homework Martin leans in close. "So hey do you think we should go in The Rift today man? Zoey is pissed about something and you mentioned Natalie wouldn't be around. I wouldn't mind not going in, but something weird happened yesterday that has me curious."

>Waiting until everyone is available is a good bet.
>You need to push forward while you have time to spare.
>What exactly happened?
>Maybe you should find Trish to get her opinion.

"What exactly happened?" You ask Martin with a concerned look.

Martin pushes his glasses up to rub his eyes. "Well remember that keypad? I ended just mashing all the number combinations until it worked. Because my trick was going to try and pry the pad open, but when I got a peak under there wasn't any electronics."

"No electronics in the keypad? What do you mean?"

"I mean what I mean. There was just a blank surface under the thing like it was being ran off things just being that way. A keypad needs the numbers to be entered, that's all. I bet if we pulled off the elevator panel there wouldn't be any wires there either." He says half lost in thought.

You give Martin a confused look, "So what you are saying is that stuff in The Rift just works?"

"Basically, yeah. Who knows how many other things work like that, but also how many things that means we could abuse like a glitch." Martin says with a small smile.

As the conversation comes to an end the final bell of the day starts to ring. Martin and you head outside where Zoey is already in her car. "Before you ask, yeah. I skipped class last period." She says with a scowl.

It only takes another minute or so for Trish to reach the rest of you in the parking lot, her hair messy again. After you fill in Trish on Natalie's absence she weighs in. "It is a shame Natalie is busy today. Going ahead without her might make things harder on her."

"Well fuck her, we can't afford to wait for everyone to be ready if there are even more of us." Zoey says as she leans back in her seat.

"Hey we all have stuff going on. And what about tomorrow, do you want us to go ahead without you?" Martin asks.

Zoey smirks before she replies, "Yeah, sure. Good luck lasting in there without me."

>What is the problem today Zoey?

"Natalie looks like she wants to be part of the team, so we are gonna wait for her. We are gonna do the same for your Zoey, because you've seen how much those Shadows kick our ass with just four of us." You explain calmly to the others.

"Whatever, just don't complain to me if a peacock shits on your roof." Zoey grumbles.

You feel your eye twitch before responding, "Zoey, you've been in a mood so foul I heard it quack. What's up?"

"I don't need to tell you all shit. I've got my own life besides this stuff and I need to take of my own shit. I'm gonna go now, later." Zoey snaps back before driving off.

Zoey peels out of the parking lot before anyone else can say anything. "Must be her time of..." Martin starts, but stops when he sees Trish looking at her.

"Personal details aside, I think Zoey is having more than that." Trish says, still trying to get her hair straight with a brush.

"Well I've still got all day to kill before dinner. Bye I guess" Martin says before heading to his car.

When Martin is out of earshot Trish whispers to you, "I need to take care of my other job, so apologize for not being free."

You look down at your phone and wonder what to do. Sam or Andy might be free, but they also might be working. With it being the weekend now you don't even to worry about school tomorrow.

With how intense The Rift is, heading to the gym may not be a bad idea, but you also don't want to do it on your own. You grab your bike and head over to Martin's car as he looks ready to pull out of the parking lot.

He rolls down the window for you to speak, "Hey Martin! You said you had time to kill, right? Wanna go check out one of the gyms downtown?"

Martin waits a moment before saying anything. "Wait you're serious? Well there is one next to my place we could check out on the way I guess."

"Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the ride by the way." You say after hooking your bike up and getting in the side.

Most of the getting out of school traffic is still going strong, so there is a long drive ahead of you. Martin starts to play a quiet orchestral piece on the way, but when you ask what it is from he says some random band. Eventually you drive through the various suburbs, over a few highways, and end up in downtown Birchland. Situated between two apartment complexes is a small building with a "24 Hour Workout" neon sign.

"I've walked past this place so much, but never went inside. I guess there is a first time for everything." Martin says as the two of you get out of his car.

Inside the small building you can see treadmills, various weight lifting machines, and even some bar benches. Then you hear a deep voice come from the counter, when you turn you see a massive man in a tight fitting t-shirt. "What can I do for you boys? Looking to apply for membership? The first day is free."

Martin gulps and elbows you in the side. Man that guy is huge.

>First day free sounds good, your both looking to try it.

You look up at the man and give him your best smile. "We were just checking the place out, seeing what it was like. I think we are both down for giving the first day a free try though."

"Well if that's the case come on in! Our regulars aren't here right now so I can help you get started. Name is James by the way." The man says as he shakes your hand.

After he moves on to crushing Martin's hand you introduce yourself. "I'm also James, Baker. That's my pal Martin."

The other James pulls his hand from Martin and turns to the gym. "Well it's good to meet you both! Now it looks like you both don't have running shoes, so let's stick to weight machines for now. Maybe do some light benches after that."

The next hour or so flies by as you are pushed to the limit of your physical ability. Stretching and lifting with muscles you didn't even know you had leaves you exchausted. Martin is on his hands and knees trying to get his breath as James stands over head.

"Well good work you two! I'll go ahead and give you the gyms number so you can all about getting a membership. Remember it's only 10 dollars a month." James says as he hands the two of you small cards.

The two of you drag yourself out of the building back to Martin's car where he cranks the AC up all the way. "Fuck.. that... place..." Martin says between breaths.

>You kind liked it, you can already feel your muscles getting stronger.
>Yeah, can you just relax at his place for now.

"Hey man, more pain now means less later. Also chicks dig fit guys." You say with a grin as Martin turns the AC down somewhat.

Martin shakes his head and smirks "I'm not gonna get girls because of my body, but I guess you got a point about the pain."

"Anyways I'm starving, you wanna go grab dinner somewhere?" You ask after felling your stomach growl.

"Oh sure, wanna go hit Micheal's Sandwiches?" He asks.

You give him a nod and soon enough Martin pulls out of the gym's parking lot. It doesn't take long for the two of you to reach the sandwich shop again. There is a pretty long line this time, but eventually you get to the counter. Martin orders a cuban and heads down the line. When the kindly woman asks you just gte the same thing as before, pulled pork.

After a few minutes the two of you grab your sandwiches and take a seat. The sandwich is as good as you remember, the BBQ sauce exploding with flavor. While your eating Martin is trying to say something, but his motuh is full.

He takes a long sip of soda before saying more, "Say James, how are you and your parents? With all this Rift stuff my mom has really been on my case recently."

You never did tell Martin about the divorce, just that your parents were dumb. You wipe from of the BBQ sauce from your face as you think of what to say.

"I wish they could get along and stop being idiots. On their own they are super cool people. Put them together? You get howler monkeys throwing shit at each other." You end with a sign.

Martin gives you a sympathetic look. "Yeesh, sorry to hear man. My mom and dad get along fine, and my dad is pretty cool. But when I'm home my mom is hovering over my like a helicopter."

You take a deep breath and sigh again. "It's no problem. I'm just here with my great uncle for now."

"Well our parents might be dumb, but we got each other to hang out with." Martin says as he puts a fist out.

"I hear that." You say back as you fist bump. As you and Martin fist bump, you feel like you understand where he is coming from more.

"No problem, let me grab my bike." You say following him out.

A few minutes later Martin is driving off and you are left with your bike in the parking lot. The night is still young, but your also still sore from that workout. Also you shouldn't stay out too late with work tomorrow.

Instead of heading anywhere else you decide to just bike home. As you ride past the school and various neighborhoods you get a breath of fresh air. As you pull past the church you notice a few cars are pulling out of the church.

You come to a stop when you see Carson on the front step. "Evening James! Just organizing some charity for later in the year!"

"Oh, alright. I already had dinner so don't worry about making some for me." You say before riding back to the house.

Back in the house you drop your bag by your door and flop on the bed. Today seemed to have just flew by, but now is time to relax. You grab "101 Knots and How to Tie Them" from your nightstand and dig into the book.

It is interesting learning how so many knots are useful in what situations, you feel your TECHNIQUE improve. At one point you take a break to get ready for bed, but then go back to reading. Eventually you come to a stopping point and fall asleep.

14 Days Remaining

In the morning you hop out of bed with a slight headache. Today you do your first real job, working at a gas station. When you head to the kitchen to get breakfast Carson greets you. "Mornin' James, what's the rush for?"

You scratch the back of your head, "Oh, sorry for not saying. I got a job at the gas station nearby."

"Well make sure you dress for success James. Stay safe there." Carson says as he hands you a plate of pancakes.

After a quick breakfast you throw on a polo-shirt you don't normally wear and head out the door. Biking down to the gas station is easy, and you make sure to lock it's chain. When you walk in your boss, Theo, motions for your to come to the back staff room.

"Good to see you James. So listen we got a little video you can watch or if you think you can handle things we can just get you started behind the counter."

You only need a second to think it over, "I'll take the video then so I don't mess anything up."

Theo stares at you for a second, and you think you see a tear form in one of his eyes. The older man pats you on the back as he leads you to the staff room. As you step in the room is cramped with folding furniture, lockers, and a TV. Theo takes a minute to insert a VHS tape into the TV's player.

"You've got a good head on your shoulder James. After that put your uniform apron on, it's the one folding on the table. Oh and if someone asks for something you wouldn't be allowed to buy let me know, legal stuff." Theo says before leaving you alone in the small room.

The video starts with a middle aged man in a suit standing in front of the gas station. "Hey there new family member! You've been selected to become part of the Go-Mart Gas Station Family, and great for you. Here we value our service and smiles..."

It just keeps going on like that for what feels like hours. The obviously over dressed man is walking through a gas station, going over how to do simple things with the most obviously fake smile you've seen in you whole life. When the video finally comes to a close you check your phone to see only ten minutes have passed. With a sigh of relief you throw the red apron on and eject the tape from the VCR before it starts playing again.

As you exit the backroom Theo hurries past you back to his office. It looks like the place is empty and he was covering for you while you watched the video. You have a good enough idea on how to replace the foods in the various racks, so you do that while there is some downtime. Through the glass front door you see plenty of people stopping for gas, but not many come inside. Just as your mind starts to wander you finally hear the bell ring to signal someone came inside. You watch as a ragged looking man grabs a soda from the back of the store and come to the counter. His skin and clothing look filthy, but he takes out a very clean looking wallet.

"Excuse me, can I get a lotto ticket? And please don't get that guy from the back, he always gives me bad numbers." The man asks in an quiet voice.

Well you wouldn't be able to buy a lottery ticket yourself, but this guy seems down on his luck. Can you afford to do something like this on your first day?

You have a weird feeling about this guy. Something seems off, so you decide to ask a few questions. "How's your day going?"

"Oh well it hasn't rained today so pretty good. Rain messes with my knees something fierce. Hoping I can get some good numbers today, you know what I mean?"

"I know, I know. Say that's a nice wallet you got there, what brand is it?" You ask, looking at the man's wallet.

The man looks down at the wallet in his hand, "This old thing? It's a Levi I've had for a few years now. So what do you say about those lotto ticket?"

"He can't sell you them, but I can." Theo says as he walks over.

You take a step back and let Theo handle it. The two men converse for a minute before Theo is handed some money and gives the man a lottery ticket. As the man walks out Theo turns back to you.

"Don't worry about him, just a homeless guy with a lottery addiction. Harmless enough really." he explains while motioning to the door.

Theo heads back to his office, leaving you on your own. The next few hours go by without any trouble, people sometimes coming in to buy a snack or drink. When you notice the time is five, you see another guy walk in. After putting your uniform in your new locker, you head out. The first day is done and in just another seven days you should get your first paycheck.

With work tomorrow you probably can't stay out too late, but you still have all of today. The question is what are you gonna do with the last few hours of sunlight?

With how bad of a mood Zoey was in yesterday you feel worried about her. You try texting her, but don't get a response. When you try calling her you get an answer, but it isn't Zoey.

A feminine voice speaks over the phone, "Hello, Zoey can't get to the phone right now. She isn't feeling well. If you give me a name I can tell her to get back to you."

You gulp before responding, "This is James Baker, I'm a friend of hers from school."

"Oh! She had a special message for if you called. She said to go ahead without her on the proj- Oh, one moment she wants to speak with you."

The voice is cutoff and you hear the sounds of the phone being handed over. After a loud bang you hear Zoey speak, her voice oddly quiet. "Hey James. What are you calling me for?"

"I just wanted to get in touch with you, how are you holding up?"

From the phone you hear a heavy sigh before Zoey speaks again. "It's whatever. Listen I'm busy, we can talk tomorrow, k?"

"I'll hang up, but you need to tell me what is going on tomorrow. If what is going on is effecting the team then it's our business to know."

You hear a soft thump before Zoey responds, "Yeah... I know. This is just a bad day for me. I'll be good after."

"Well feel better. Later Zoey." You say with worry clear in your voice.

"Bye" she says blowing her nose and hanging up.

That call didn't exactly leave you high in spirits, so you just ride home for now. You finally unlock your bike and start to pedal back home. It's a short ride just down the street for a few minutes, letting cars pass you by thanks to there not being any bike lanes.

When you reach the house you park your bike and head in, Carson's car telling you your great uncle is home. But inside he is nowhere to be seen/

"Hey I'm home!" You call out, but no answer.

He isn't in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, or out backyard from what you can see. As you walk down the hall you see the empty room's door is left open, but he isn't in there either. You try knocking on his door, but yet again nothing. That just leaves the locked room.

You lightly rap on the door to try and get his attention. "Carson are you in there? It's James, I'm home early today."

There is a gut wrenching silence for a few seconds, but finally you hear your Great Uncle's voice. "Ah yes, sorry James. I'm a little busy with finances at the moment and lost track of time. Once I finish this up I'll get started on dinner, alright?"

You let out of a sigh of relief and leans against the wall next to the door, "Sounds good to me."

Now that you know Carson is fine there is one thing you remember that has been slipping your mind for awhile now, Abigail's request. You grab a cup from the kitchen, fill it with water, and head to the backyard. After a quick glance to make sure nobody is around you spill the water on the ground and look into the small puddle as the night's sky becomes clear in it's reflection.

Everything fades away to darkness, but slowly returns in a blue haze. You sit up on the bench, back in the Velvet Room. Igor is writing down something in a book with his usual grin, but when Abigail notices you she jumps out of her chair.

"Oh welcome back James! You wouldn't happen to have some Persona to fuse, would you?" She asks with a smile.

Igor motions for his assistant to sit back down, "Eager are you? Give our guest a minute, it has been some time since he last came here."

"Well she is right. I'm sure with all the Persona I have I could fulfill her request for a Persona of the Sun Arcana." It feels weird actually saying those words out-loud.

"Hmm, in that case go ahead to the press you two. I hope there are no errors, James Baker." Igor says as he looks up from his desk, locking eyes with you.

Abigail grabs you by the hand as you walk over, using her seemingly inhuman strength to drag you to the back of the room. You summon the book once she finally lets go and look through the pages.

"Using your Genbu and Lycaon should give you a Persona of the Sun Arcana! Or umm, you could just have Harpy added to your book to merge with Lycaon." Abigail explains as she sways back and forth.

>Just go for the strongest fusion possible.
>Spending a little to get Harpy won't be so bad.

"Let's just go for the strongest fusion of Lycaon and Genbu," You say as you take their pages out.

Abigail's eyes light up behind her glasses every so slightly as you insert the pages into the press. It looks like she is focused on the task, but one thing is on your mind. "What did Igor mean by errors?" You ask.

"Sometimes there are hmph. Errors in the process that make random hmph. Shadows." Abigail says between huffs as she starts to crank the press.

It doesn't take any longer than a few seconds of churning for the new singular page to slide out like it was nothing. Before you can take the page Abigail snatches it hot off the press and runs back to Igor's desk.

"Master Igor! Master Igor! I helped him, see! Now can I please have the full selection of books again?!" She yells before tripping up on the stairs to the telescope.

You wince and walk over to try and help her, but she is already up and dusting herself off. Igor lets out as he turns in his chair to face you, "Well you should give him the page first, but I suppose so."

When Abigail turns to you and hands over the page she has a gentle smile on her face. "Thank you so much James, this really means so much to me."

Atticus appears next to you as the page fits right into your book. Your Persona places a hand on your shoulder as he looks into your book, "Cu Sith? That dog was a terror in Scotland known to bark three times and kill people. Usually surrounded by faeries, but I suppose in this case it is on it's own."

The visage of a green dog with a whip-like tail and wing ears appears before you, barking twice before fading away. You let the book fade away as well, but not without a burning sensation on your hand. It isn't as bad as the last time, so thankfully it seems the pain is less in here. With the book taken care of Atticus walks past you and Abigail, taking a seat across from Igor.

"So you must really want those books, huh?" You ask Abigail who was awkwardly standing there the whole time.

"Oh yes. Books are wonderful." She says, back to her calm self.

You and Abigail end up walking to one of the bookshelves together as you ask another question, "Is there a reason why you like them so much?"

Abigail stops in her tracks and looks around the room. "Well... there really isn't much else for me I suppose. I'm not as much like the others like me, I didn't get to speak with them much. All I've really had are Master Igor and books, so having most of the books taken away was worrying. But now I have them back, so thank you again James."

Things must be lonely in here, you can't imagine being alone for who knows how long like Abigail must be sometimes. Her love of books makes more sense to you now...

Social Link Rank-Up!
Priestess Rank 2: The Full Selection- You are able to bring back Persona 5 levels lower than Atticus for free in the Velvet Room.

"You should probably get back before your Great Uncle sees you staring at a puddle." Atticus says as he walks over to you.

At this point you aren't even angry about being basically kicked out of the Velvet Room. As everything returns to normal you shake a bug off your arm and head back inside. Carson is just walking into the kitchen as you come inside.

"There you are, I'll be whipping up some light catfish tonight." He says with a grin while getting a pan.

"Would you mind if I helped? More lessons means I can cook for myself more."

"I don't mind at all. Can't say there will be too much teaching though, I got some fillets from a friend this morning." Your Great Uncle says as he takes out some slightly frozen fish from the fridge.

Carson goes over the basics of seasoning the fish, emphasizing you want something to compliment the flavor. He gets out a small pan for you as he works the fillets, letting you cook some broccoli on the oven.

The two chat about your days as you balance the heat of your dinner. You tell Carson about your first day of work going well while he talks about yet another church meet and great with a nearby pastor. After only a few minutes you plate the broccoli. keeping the conversation going while balancing the heat just right has improved your TECHNIQUE.

With the fish and broccoli done the two of you take a seat. After saying grace you both dig in to have a good meal. While you are washing dishes after the good meal Carson brings up church tomorrow.

"Sorry if I wake you up while getting ready tomorrow, but you are welcome to come. This time I promise you won't be worked." He says with a chuckle.

"I might just do this, but I have work at noon again." You say, not quite committing to anything yet.

Your Great Uncle gives you a serious look, "Well don't stay out too late after work, you have class Monday."

You nod along and head to your room once dishes are done. After getting ready for bed you watch TV some, but don't see anything new or important going on the news. Once it gets late enough you finally retire to bed and get a good's night rest.

You take time getting ready for the day, you don't have to leave for work for a few more hours. As much as you'd like go to church today, there is something more pressing on your mind. After having a breakfast muffin you sit down in the living room and dial Zoey's number.

The phone rings for a few minutes before it is picked up. At first there is just grumbling, then Zoey's voice comes through. "James? What the hell it's so early."

Not everyone is a morning person you suppose, "I just called because this is a serious topic. We should meet up at the school early tonight before the others get there. So we can talk about yesterday just between us."

"Sure, sure yeah... 5:30 good with you?" She asks after stopping to yawn.

You'll have to race to school after work, but you can manage. "It's perfect, I'll see you then."

"Bye, sleeping now." She says before the call clicks.

With the call taken care of you finish getting ready for the day and head outside. The morning today has a pretty thick fog, so you grab your reflector vest for biking. Instead of heading straight to work you stop by church for the tail end of Carson's service.

It seems like the bulk of the service has gone by, but from outside you can hear him preaching his heart out. "It is our duty to help those that can't help themselves! For it is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy!"

Real inspiring, you wish you could hear the whole thing. But getting ready took longer than you though, probably because Zoey wasn't fully away. You bike off to work for the day, arriving with other people on shift for once. The middle aged woman Rhonda is behind the counter again, but this time you greet her as you step inside.

You get your apron on with minutes to spare, but it seems not all things are fortunate. In the parking lot you see multiple people parking, probably from the church service letting out. Most of them are filling up on gas, but some come inside for quick snacks and such. One woman's child even spills his slushy on the floor as she was paying for it.

Rhonda looks to you and you figure as the new person you have to clean it up. As you walk back to the counter with the mop you see the kid snicker behind their mom's leg.

>Just clean it up, kids are kids.
>Ask if the woman would like a free refill, she must have a long day.

It isn't your place to tell the woman how to raise her kid. You sigh and just clean up the spilled slushy without any trouble. After the two leave Rhonda gives you a sympathetic smile. The rest of your shift goes by in a blur as people come in for lunch, but you easily keep up with the gas station's chicken sandwiches.

When your shift comes to a close you change out of the apron and make into your vest, the fog still having not let up. Rhonda seems like she is working all day, but that must be what she signed up for. With your bike unlocked you speed off to the school to get there in time.

The fog is making it difficult and you nearly go into drainage ditches multiple times while trying to avoid getting hit by cars, but you are making good time. You pull into the school's parking lot right on time, but with the fog you can hardly see anything. Then suddenly you are caught in the headlights of a car.

"Yo James, did you miss me? Zoey asks as she turns her headlights off.

You sigh in relief, swearing your life almost flashed before you eyes. After parking your bike on the rack you walk back over to Zoey's car, "Hey. Man this fog is a pain."

"You're telling me, I could barely go the speed limit on the way here." She groans.

Well she seems back to her normal self, but you don't have forever. The group text went out to meet here at 6, and you text Natalie yourself. But how to break the ice with Zoey?

"So about yesterday, what do you wanna know?" She asks as she turns the radio on her car on.

You take the passenger side seat next to Zoey before speaking. "So what was the deal with yesterday?"

Zoey leans her seat back and lets out a heavy sigh. Then she turns the radio off before resting a hand over her eyes. For a minute she just lays there in her seat like that, but you aren't in a rush.

"So a year ago I had a boyfriend. Yesterday was the day I asked him out last year. We were a couple up until the summer break when he just vanished."

Serious relationships aren't exactly something you have experience with, but you can feel for her. "Well is there anything I can do to help?"

"Don't bother. I'm fine really, just you know..." Zoey trails off, but you notice her hands are shaking.

That's when something clicks. The restaurant, the coach, just mentioning her having a boyfriend sets her off. You finally understand where some of her anger is coming from. "Right, you need some space sometimes. I understand."

Suddenly Zoey sits up straight and drags her hand down her face. Right after she smacks herself on the cheeks with both her hands. Slowly she turns to look at you, then to the time displayed by the car.

"I just wanna move on. Also don't mention this to the others, got it? Especially to Natalie if she sticks around."

You nod slowly as Zoey wipes her nose with a tissue tucked under her seat. This must have been hard for her to talk about, but it explains what her Shadow was talking about. Is there something else you should say before the others arrive?

"Hey, you don't have to worry about me telling anyone. And thanks for talking about this, I understand it is hard." You say to reassure her.

Zoey shrugs, "I said I would tell you, so I did. Thanks though, it's nice to vent sometimes."

"I do have to ask one more thing though. What is your problem with Natalie?"

"Pfft, she's just a goody two-shoes. Back in elementary school she would tattletale whenever anyone did something. And with all her charity stuff how often do you think she is really gonna be around?"

"Maybe so, but if she is willing to try and help us with The Rift we need all the help we can get." You say adamantly.

She just rolls her eyes and turns the radio back on. Zoey can be extreme sometimes, but she just has the group's best interest at heart you suppose. The sun finally becomes clear through the fog as it is setting. In the final few minutes before six you see multiple pairs of lights pull into the parking lot.

It makes you slightly nervous at first, but you hear familiar voices. Natalie and Martin walk over together, both giving you and Zoey curious looks but not saying anything. Trish is the last to arrive, which she apologizes for.

"So what shall our plan be for today?" Trish asks as she gets into the back seat.

Natalie takes the seat behind you and gives Trish a confused look. "Shouldn't we just go back and go through that weird place more?"

"Well yeah, but we need a plan for what to do while in there. Wandering around aimlessly will just get us swamped with Shadows." Martin explains as he hops in.

You have a few options for what you can do, but whatever it is it can't be too long with school tomorrow.

"Before we even go in The Rift we need some better equipment. We at least need basic stuff for you two." You say pointing to Zoey and Natalie.

"I'm getting something that isn't an ugly camo jacket then," Zoey says as she starts her car.

"Don't worry, the Surplus store has affordable prices." Trish tells Natalie with a smile.

With the car driving down the road you continue, "Once we have that taken care of we should try getting back to that lab Natalie was in. See if we can find any notes or anything."

Natalie squirms in her seat, but doesn't say anything. It must be uncomfortable to think about going back there, then the image of her Shadow's head flashes in your mind. You shake your head to get the thought gone.

"That sounds like a good plan, what are you doing with your phone Martin?" Trish asks as she turns to him.

Martin takes a break from his phone to crack his knuckles as he explains, "I'm just bookmarking mythology sites to try and find out more about Shadows once we are in there."

You have an idea stirring, but you have to think of how to word it. Eventually you reach the Surplus Store where Zoey and Natalie run in to buy things. The two come out with a bag each, but having bought a little something to stay safe. Zoey just grabbed a winter coat while Natalie bought a jacket and helmet like Martin. As Zoey starts the drive to PHAT HQ you cough to get everyone's attention.

"Hey, did any of you notice the themes with each Rift? The school was like a jungle with tribal Shadows and people started like cliquey parodies of themselves. The thing running it said "putting everyone in their proper place" and here the Shadows are heroes and the Rift is turning activists into vigilantes."

The others are silent for a few minutes, but Martin is first to break that silence.

"That is something to look at, but I think I understand what our own Shadows are. Trish was never in The Rift for too long, right? And James, you nearly died after being in there a few minutes. If these Rifts are meant to make people act certain ways and keep things running it's like a body. When we actually go in there we don't belong, like a virus. If Shadows are red blood cells then our Shadows that confront us are like white blood cells, right?"

"That would make sense, but why bring up James and I? We never had to deal with our own Shadows." Trish points out.

Martin shakes his head, "That's the thing. We don't face more of our own Shadows after we get Personas. What if by awakening one The Rift recognized us as belonging somehow? Think about how much more punishment we can take after we got our Persona in there too."

After the explanation the car comes to a stop across the street from PHAT HQ. "I've just been focusing on driving, so what is the point of all of this again?"

"I don't really understand either. So long as we close The Rift why worry about what they really are?" Natalie asks, hugging her new purchase to chest.

"Well if the Rift thinks we belong, then maybe we can do more than we thought in there. And we need every advantage we can get."

"It will have to wait and see. I think it is time for us to get going now." Trish says as she reaches over Martin to open the door.

"Yes, finally. Enough chatter." Zoey says as she gets out.

Soon enough you all walk across the almost empty street and enter The Rift. Inside Trish goes to a tent on her own to change while the rest of you get your gear ready. It doesn't like any of the other Rifts are active in the sky, so still just this one for now.

"To the lab!" Trish announces as she burst out of a tent in her costume.

The walk back to the entrance isn't long, but you notice the guards from before are gone. Carefully you lead the way with Trish inside through the dark hallway entrance. The front lobby looks the same as before, but the holographic globe doesn't seem to be on. The secretary Shadow is also missing.

Martin looks over the counter and groans, "All the papers are just blank. Hopefully the lab has real papers."

With no obvious stairs your only way to Floor 6 is back on the elevator. Everyone crams inside when Natalie chimes in, "James is your hand alright?."

You look down and see the tattoo has changed again. The chain and serpent are gone, now it looks like a bite mark is on your wrist. "That's just a side effect of my Persona, nothing worry about," You assure her.

Eventually the elevator reaches the sixth floor. As you step off the floor is silent compared to before, not even the sound of Shadows making themselves busy. Making your way down the hallway you see the entrance to the lab is still wide open, and the office next to it is empty. Creeping closer you can see a collection of suit wearing Shadows inside, six at most.

"What's the plan here?" Zoey whispers over from the other side of the entrance.

>Open fire on them before they know what hit them.

>Find out what they are and try to hit their weaknesses.

"Get them stuck in this doorway so we only fight a few at a time, that should help us save some energy." You whisper back.

You all take positions around the door, Natalie staying in the back due to still being new. The rest of you ready your firearms before blasting the same Shadow all at the same time. It looked like be another of the singular eyed bat Shadows, well was..

Four of the other Shadows all transform as they charge at you. Two of them are Berith's, one looked like an angel in leather gear, and the final was another of those Heroic Shadows. Things quickly devolve into a melee as the Shadows close the distance.

Zoey tries hacking into the Angel, but it just doesn't do much damage. Martin gives up on the idea of using melee only and summons High John to zap the Hero in an attempt to slow it down. In return the Hero Shadow punches Martin right in the gut.

"Enough of that one!" Trish shouts as Sacagawea ignites the caped Shadow.

The Beriths hang back, launching fire at you and Natalie. While you manage to dodge out of the way, Natalie's arm is hit by the attack. But instead of shying away she charges through the crowded doorway, stabbing the Shadow that hit her with her spear.

While looking through the brawl to try and find and opening you notice one of the Shadows still in it's suit form and sneaking across the room beyond with something.

"Atticus, don't let them get away!" You shout as your hand begins to glow.

The white suited Persona appears beside you with rifle in hand. He actually raises his other hand to steady the gun, taking aim at the Shadow. Right as the Shadow is about to run behind the center holding up the sphere, the shot is fired.

As the Shadow falls to the ground you see what looks like a folder fly from it's hands. The shape of the Shadow quickly changes to that of a small man made of paper with strange lines all over their body.

When you turn back to the fight you see High John cause a bolt of lighting to jump from one Shadow to another, hitting them all at once. With the Hero and Angel looking weakened, Zoey runs over to Natalie. The Berith that was stabbed by Natalie is finished off as Nevermore claws into it with both of it's stone talons.

But the Shadows aren't going down without a fight. Trish is torn into by the Hero, getting punching in both shoulders. Before the Angel can act Sacagawea stabs a hand into the Shadow's chest, finishing it off.

The lone Berith looks between all of you before just trying to stab at Natalie again. The girl takes the hit, but returns it by summoning her massive Persona which slams the Shadow into the ground.

A dark purple haze fills your vision and you feel drained. Trying to find the source you see the paper shadow, laughing? No sound is coming from it, but it is clear your defense is weaker now.

Over the sound of the final seconds of the battle you shout to the biggest group, "Hey Martin, what's the weakness of this paper thing?!"

Martin runs over, avoiding a strike from the Hero Shadow. "Looks Japanese, maybe a minor nature spirit. Fire is a good bet."

"Trish handle this one, we've got the rest!" You call while running over to her place.

The Hero Shadow is finished off by a blast of light and heavy lighting bolt from Martin. On the other side of the hall Zoey and Natalie attack the Berith from both sides with just their weapons, causing it to melt away.

Before the last remaining Shadow can get an attack off Trish attacks it with a small blast of fire, stunning the thing. With it being the only one left you pull your knife and get in close.

"Hey you shouldn't hurt me! I'm just a kid!" the Shadow squeals in a high pitched voice.

You crouch down to the Shadows level and smile, "Well if you don't wanna hurt more why don't you sign this book?"

As you mention it the book and pen appear in your hands. The Shadow seems unsure, but given the others all standing around it signs reluctantly. Kodama is scrawled out in sloppy handwriting. You wince at the burning sensation on your hand, but you're more use to it now. A small spiral shape has formed between the bike marks on your wrist.

"What's in the folder?" You ask as you stand back up.

Martin is already looking at it and humming. "It looks like some reports on increased growth. It's in English though so with time I can read it all."

"I don't about that folder, but I did find something leftover from that hero," Zoey says with a grin and her hands behind her back.

From behind Zoey holds out what looks like a chunk of metal in one hand and a wad of cash in the other. The money looks like it could be around 200 bucks easy, but you have no clue what the metal is.

"D-Do you always find this much money in here?" Natalie asks with her eyes wide in shock.

>Not always, but we should split this even and keep moving.
>Hunker down in the office for now while Martin reads the papers.
>Keep moving for now. Try taking the elevator across the room.
>Call it day for now, you have a bad feeling about so many Shadows being missing.

Motioning to the door to your side you say, "Let's hunker down in the office over there while Martin reads the papers. We can keep an eye on the entrances for any more Shadows and worry about the money on the way out."

"Sounds good. I've got some water if anyone needs some" Zoey says as she carries the spoils into your temporary safe room.

The office is still strewn about with papers and cubicles, but you see now nothing is actually written on the papers. The only exits to the room are the one you came from and another in the back that leads into another hallway. Martin takes up a spot in the middle of the room to start reading through the files. Natalie sits next to Martin to try and help get through the files.

Zoey cleared a table to set the metal chunk and money on while watching a door while Trish is keeping an eye on the other. You've got a seat in the middle to help if Shadows come from either side. Everyone seems a little winded, but nothing major yet.

You all get a short rest in the room before Natalie calls for everyone's attention. "Excuse me everyone, but Martin and I have found out what these papers are talking about."

Martin stands up awkwardly as Natalie hands him the files back, "Umm well. It looks like this White Robed person is working for someone. They refer to a figure as "The Brains" and say the papers say everything White Robes does is an order from him. Sound familiar?"

"Yes, the robed figure in the jungle was also talking about someone giving them orders as well." Trish says as she turns to the group.

Martin holds up the folders, "But that isn't all we found. Their goal isn't to cause the incident in the real world, they just want to keep people effected. According to these papers anyone that is brought in here will be redeemed in the next life."

"So we need to find the real head, huh?" Zoey asks, cracking her knuckles.

>What does that file mean by "the next life"?
>Does it give us any clues on where we can find anything?
>Are there any clues as to how The Rifts are made?
>Well in that case it's time to find White Robes.

You hold up a hand, "Hold on, what does those files mean by the next life?"

"The file doesn't say exactly, but it does mention holding people here until the right time has come." Natalie chimes in.

"Well does it give us any clues on how The Rifts were made?" You ask while getting a water from Zoey.

Martin shakes his head, "No, but it is safe to assume the one behind all this is doing it. If that last robed figure was what was keeping a Rift open, odds are White Robes is keeping this one open too."

Well not everything can be explained so easily. After draining half the water you ask one more question, "Speaking of White Robes, does that give us any clues on where we can find anything?"

The two of them look over the files again for a minute. "Well not exactly, but there is a note at the end that says to take these up to floor 9."

"So what are we standing around here for then?" Zoey asks.

"Hold on, I'm hearing something." Trish says from her place by the other door.

The wall next to Trish explodes, rubble flying all around the room. "HALT VILLAINS! You've been tresspassing far too long, but now I am here! We have already evacutated personel to other floors, so be prepared to meet JUSTICE!"

As the smoke clears you see a hulking figure of a man. They are wearing a bright red and blue spandex suit, with a shadow covering their face. Their eyes seem to glow through the dust and shadows though, looking right at you.

>Every blast him!
