‘There is no such thing as paranoia. Your worst fears can come true at any moment.’ And these words rung true as you were forced to confront one of your greatest fears, interacting with strangers. This was made even more terrifying by the fact that your neighbors weren’t simply people; they were all secretly monsters in disguise, all feeding off human emotional energy, your emotional energy.

On the bright side you do have some sort of help on the outside; Father Armand would come to your aid if needed, and as long as you could get the info on what these monsters were as well as what their weaknesses were you could feed that info to Armand. Your apartment will hopefully be a safe haven as well, as you took the night putting a line of salt around its edges, you had to leave some space for the door way, lest it break every time it is opened, but that along with a few other precautions that you set up you should be safe… though no plan survives first contac- never mind, best not to think of such things for now. Now is the time to act.

So armed with but a simple peach wood dagger for spirits, a bible, and various other pieces of junk you… ‘acquired’ from a recently deceased shop owner you will venture into the terror, if not for yourself but for Armand and every other human subject to these monsters hunger. The pathways are lit; you must simply choose where you begin.

You feel the morning sun from the small hall’s only window cover you in a small amount of warmth as you step out of your room. It’s a new day, you hope it won’t be your last.

>Room 304, an unsettling presence weighs on you as you view the door
>Room 302, the room next to yours, formerly Nickole’s before you… There is probably nobody home
>Room 301, across from Nickole’s room, there is something odd about it, not bad, just a strange odd

You take tentative steps towards the door, an odd feeling overcoming you as you close in on it. Reaching the door you take a deep breath and mentally ready yourself, as well as doing one last check to make sure your bible and knife are in hand.

Lifting your heavy hand you go to knock on the door. Only for it to open, batting your hand away before it could hit its intended target and stunning you in the face of your neighbor. A girl with an… odd expression on her face? You think she is trying to smile at you, but it just comes off as creepy.

“Greetings.” She says rather impartially, a contrast to her intended expression. At least you hope her intention is friendly.

“Uh… Hello?” smooth as silk as always.

The two of you just stare at each other awkwardly. You honestly have no idea what to do now. Do you let her introduce herself? Do you introduce yourself? Is she going to murder you now?

“So- uh… my name is Jack.” You say extending your hand for a hand shake.

She stares at it for a second with the same strange look plastered on her face. “Yes, my name is Helen. It is nice to meet you Jack.” She says with the same emotionless tone.

You don’t know if it’s the fact that this is a person, a cute girl, or the fact that she is a monster that is making this interaction particularly hard for you. The fact that she just stares at you with that unmoving expression doesn’t help as you just stand there with your hand out like an idiot. She doesn’t seem to make much in the way of movement at all, as far as you can see. She doesn’t even seem like she is breathing.

After several more moments of silence she breaks it once more. “Would you like to come in for tea?” she offers.

>”No thank you, I just wanted to introduce myself.”

“That would be nice.” She doesn’t make a move to let you into her home.

The two of you continue to stand there, as she stares at you. She makes no indication that she will allow you into her home or that she even will acknowledge that she invited you in the first place. You honestly don’t know what to do. “So, uh… the tea?”

“Would you like to come in for some?” She says once more.

“Sure.” You have no idea what is wrong with this girl.

She steps out of the way and you enter her home, and it was a Spartan style of home. There didn’t really seem to be much. No personal touches or items of sentiment or anything similar. Everything seemed to be some kind of sterile clean, almost untouched. There didn’t even seem to be a bed. The only things that seemed to be her own was the dresser, the table with two chairs you were seated at, and the kettle that she had in the small kitchen.

You noticed as she opened one of the kitchen cabinets that it was filled neatly with nothing but boxes of tea. She quickly snatched one and closed the cabinet before filling the kettle with water from the sink in a particularly careful way. Did she not like water or something? It was kind of hard to tell from your seat.

“So… How long have you lived here?” You try to pass the time as she prepares the tea with some idle conversation. That’s how people do pass time with others right?

“9 months, 12 days, 8 hours, and 32 minutes.”

That was… specific.

“So why do you like tea so much?”

“I enjoy the process of creating it. I find it hard to describe why, but I like it.” She almost sounded like she had something in her voice for a minute. Unfortunately she doesn’t seem to plan on elaborating further.

“What made you move here anyway?” Your apartment building wasn’t exactly the best besides the fairly lax land lord.

“I used my body to position myself and my belongings into this building.”

What? Was that some kind of joke? Were you supposed to laugh? You can’t contemplate it for long as it appears she is done preparing the tea. Placing a tea cup on your side of the table, she carefully pours the steaming tea into your cup, before turning to place the kettle on the stove. You’d toss the stuff in some potted plant or some other container out of fear it might be spiked, but there is nothing to hide it in.

It probably doesn’t help that you don’t know about poisons, much less tea. You can’t really tell if its poisoned or not. This doesn’t make you feel any better.

“So what brand of tea is this anyway?”

“It is a homemade blend I used to buy in bulk from a local store; unfortunately the owner was recently discovered deceased a few weeks ago.” You can almost detect a hint of sadness in her voice.

Wait, was it that one hippies shop? That doesn’t make you feel any better about drinking this. It could have some kind of weird drug in it from that damn hippie.

“So where did you live before?” It would be best to try and distract her for now. At least until you can avoid drinking this tea somehow…

“I lived at my home.”

“Your home?”

She turns to you and nods, before coming over and taking a seat across from you with no cup of tea.

“Where was your home?”

“It was at home.” She says, in a… nostalgic tone? It’s hard to tell. Regardless you feel that is the best answer you will get from her.

“So why did you decide to live here then?”

“It was an order.”

“From who?”

She just stares at you blankly. “I can’t tell you.”

“So why do you not have much in the way of furniture?”

“I have no need for such things.”

“You don’t have a need for a bed?” you inquire.

She just shakes her head in response, and makes no indication she will explain why she feels she doesn’t need a bed.

“So do you know the other neighbors?”

“I am aware of their existence yes.”

“Do you know anything else about them?”

She stares at you inquisitively. “I know they are my neighbors.”

This is getting frustrating. She either has no idea or is actively trying not to tell you anything.

“Also the land lord is a bit of a sloth.”

Correction she either has no idea, or is actively trying not to tell you anything that wasn’t obvious.

“So what do you do for a living?”

“I live here, and I make tea.”

How are you supposed to distract her long enough for the tea to get cold if she is just going to give you blunt, straight, answers that tell you absolutely nothing? It takes most of your will power to not just groan in frustration.

“Is the tea not to your liking?”

Shit, she noticed you haven’t touched your tea yet.

You take a small sip of the tea, only for you to almost gag at the taste. You don’t know if it was the preparation, or that damn hippie spiting you from the grave but it tastes awful. Its smell gave no indication for how strong the taste was as it assaulted your senses.

“Why don’t you try it?” It might have been petty of you to try and force her to drink some of this awful tea, but to be fair if she spiked it, then you both are going to get drugged if you can help it.

“I’m sorry, I have to refuse.”

“Why? It’s your tea.” You push the cup closer to her.

She shies away from the cup. “It’s just that I can’t drink it.”

“Why, did you do something to it?” you accuse.

“No…” she seems at a loss for what to say. You see some kind of confliction coming across her face. “I just am not supposed to drink.”

Not supposed to? Why would she not supposed to drink? You would assume even monsters would need to be hydrated, at least most of them. What kind of monster would not be able to drink something? What is she?

“Come on, everyone needs to drink. Just…” You reach over the table attempting to push the cup into the girls face.

“No!” Her response is probably the most emotion you’ve heard her express in the short meeting you’ve had.

Her hand shot up, and gripped my arm with a surprising amount of force. Any harder and she may have crushed you bones. You instinctively let go of the tea cup while cursing in pain, letting it fall to the table. Helen’s response is to immediately flip the whole god damn table throwing you along for the ride and onto your back, the table landing painfully on top of you shortly afterwards.

Groaning in pain you slide out from underneath the table and finding a wall to lean on as you rise to your feet despite your body’s dull protests of pain.

“Jack I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“ she began to panic, losing her emotionless tone.

“What did you do to that god damn tea?!” You know she did something, she poisoned you. She is going to fucking kill you. Why did you drink the tea? Why did you fucking drink the tea? Despite your arms pain it instinctively reaches for the book, ready to strike at a moment’s notice. Either from her striking, or your mind clouding from the drug she put in your drink. She had to have put something in it, there is no other way.

“I didn’t put anything into the tea!”

You need to calm down, you can’t do this here. Not now at least. You move your hand away from your book of god, but keep your eyes firmly on the girl in front of you.

“Then why won’t you drink it?” you growl out.

“I just can’t ok, but I am not trying to hurt you.” Her voice seems to be calming down a bit too, though it isn’t back at that initial emotionless tone she had when you first interacted.

“Fine, sure. I’ll buy that.” You say sarcastically.

You sigh in irritation and decide to play the nice guy. “Look, I’m sorry for trying to force that on you, it’s just kind of suspicious when you act like that with something you gave me to drink.”

Her body loses some of its tenseness. “I also apologize, it must be… strange to meet someone like me.” She pauses for a moment to consider something. “But I promise you, I would never intentionally bring you harm, through action, or inaction.”

Sure, you believe that. Just like you believe there is no such thing as monsters. Regardless you decide to let bygones be bygones and excuse yourself.

You quickly lock yourself in your apartment. Quickly giving the place a once over for bugs and that the salt lines you set up weren’t broken sit in a familiar position at your desk with your simple laptop open. Opening a fresh document and begin to type in what little you gleamed off the interactions.

Helen:
-Major aversion to liquids (just tea? Other liquids?). Possible weakness, look into.
-Trouble with emoting, verbally or physically
-Major strength, avoid getting in arms length
-Seems to have no schedule or work, possibly a NEET
-No bed = doesn’t need to sleep?

Saving the document, you open a web browser, and begin your search to discover what this girl potentially is…

>End session

Next session is at 3pm tomorrow.

It has been an hour or so since you finished your little trip to your neighbor. You’re not particularly sure what she is yet, but you think you got her weaknesses down. At least you hope you do. You lean back and stretch, it feels almost good to be on your laptop again, like its back before the whole incident with that succubus…

Regardless, there is no point in considering what could have been, you must work towards the future now. Though should you begin your plan to enact the plan to get your neighbor… taken care of by your local church’s priest, take some more time to get info, or start investigations on another neighbor?

It may just be your paranoia, but you felt something off about that door. Not something odd like Helen’s, instead of a foreign feeling this gave off a familiar feeling of dread. To be fair though, that was an effect most things had on you. Reaching your hand towards the door you give it a knock, hopefully to no answer.

Your light knocks on the door echoed in the silence, but didn’t particularly seem to get a response. Maybe nobody was home?

You place your ear against the door and strain to hear something, anything. You aren’t really sure what you expected to hear, but all you hear is a whole lot of nothing.

Well you already are here now, so you might as well commit to it. You knock your arm against the door a bit harder now. To the point it’s actually audible. You actually hear a tired voice call to you from inside. Definitely female, definitely drowsy.

“Doors unlocked.”

Seriously? Who would keep their door unlocked in this day and age? Especially in this apartment, there are monsters everywhere. Actually how friendly were monsters with each other anyway? They had to have the minimum of peace to be able to hide in plain sight, much less live in an apartment run by another.

Swinging open the door you are met with a rather interesting sight. At least it was an unexpected one. The first thing you noticed was the huge bed that took up a good chunk of the apartment flat. The other was girl on top of it, and from an angle she appeared to only be wearing a T-shirt far to large for her, and that was all as far as you could tell. She probably had shorts or something on underneath, she wouldn’t have let you in otherwise.

That fact still doesn’t help your imagination, but you push those thoughts away, this is about finding her weakness. That takes precedence to everything else.

“I- uhhhh… should I- you know uh- come back later?” You spout out, exuding the same confidence and seamless as always.

She stretches a bit. “Nah, your good, so who are you anyway?”

“Oh! Well- I- I mean my name is- ummm- Jack?”

“Jack? Nice to meet ‘cha, so what brings you to home?” she inquires, laying down on her stomach and using her arms to keep her head up. You can’t tell if she is bored or just tired. You have no idea why she would be sleeping, it is just over an hour til noon. It doesn’t help that she is making somewhat uncomfortable with all the pale skin she is showing.

No use in getting, especially when the girl in front of you can probably literally taste it. She perks up a bit at your spike of anger, but otherwise doesn’t comment or shows it.

This bitch right here. You get the feeling you won’t be getting much out of her. Are all girls like this or are they aware of your mission, or worse your actions to their fellow monster. Fuck this isn’t good, you need to calm down and form a tactical retreat.

>”Maybe we can go to get something to eat sometime, as friends.”
>”Maybe some other time, I’ll see you around.”
>”A date sounds nice, might get the landlord off my back.”

“Maybe we can go to get something to eat sometime.”

“As friends.” You quickly correct yourself, you honestly can’t afford to be in a relationship right now, much less one with a monster. You’d need money if you wanted to go somewhere, and ‘inviting’ a monster in your house had bad results the last time you tried it so you’d rather not bring her in. You would if you absolutely had too, but money is a thing you’ll need to get now, if not for the date, just for food and rent in general while you stay here.

“That would be nice.” Lucille says as she grabs a few of her pillows and blankets, and pilling them onto herself like some kind of nest. Why does she even need that many pillows? “Come talk to me if you think of a place to go~.”

“Got it, see you later Lucille.” And with that you leave the room.

“See ya Jack.” You hear her muffled call under her layers of pillows and blankets.

Closing the door behind you, you head back to your quaint little home. It is honestly a bit odd seeing the dark room, compared to the other apartments flats here, but its home, and its safe. You meticulously lock every lock on your door, before carefully stepping over the line of salt you had and feel much more relaxed and safe. There was just too much tension from those meetings, far more than you were used to at least. On the bright side you can now truthfully tell your landlord that you were interacting with others now, and even had some witnesses to back it up. Though you don’t know if you want him to find out about your outburst at Helen’s or just generally the uncomfortable exchange with Lucille, but you at least have someone that can testify for you.

Opening your laptop you begin to type your rather scarce findings on Lucille.

Lucille:
-Likes to sleep (possibly related to her species? Possibly nocturnal?)
-Enjoys toying with people in lewd ways
-

You stare at the third bullet line for a few minutes, and get the frustrating sense you will have to either interact with her more or even take her on that… date… before you get anything of use out of her. For now though you are just glad you are alive. Now you just need to keep it that way until you can clear these monsters out.

>Session End

Gonna hang around a bit for any questions, comments, etc. Archive will be up soon.

Thanks for running, as always
I do enjoy the freshness of your quest MM

Don't really see how its all that fresh.

I like the NHK+ supernatural elements, while it manages not to be a straight rip of any property I know.

Never watched or saw NHK, so it is a bit hard for me to rip off it. The supernatural elements are mainly just monsters and creatures I look into from all sorts of sources and meld them together, you could probably find out what monster Helen is if you dig a bit. Lucille you could pin exactly what she is if you do one thing I won't mention because that would ruin the surprise. And if consuming emotional energy off humans by wolves in sheep's clothing hasn't been done before the consuming of a general energy off humans has been.

Maybe its just because i am overly critical of my own writing, but i still don't see my shit as fresh. Just a mesh of a bunch of different shit that barely holds itself together with spit and ducktape.
