Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: A tiny mainlander town on Tabo Island

Recently: You stayed the night at Abigails, Laki and Hana had a lot of fun with you, and you trained in the morning.

I just wanted to say as a general note that I know threads have been less frequent and updates in those threads have been slower. I've been a bit tired and distracted, but that is coming to an end and the quest will be getting more focus after today.]

“Look at how hard Bergmite is training.” You say aloud.

Belladonna looks up. “Yes, you too Bella. I just meant that he’s out in the sun doing his best, even if it’s not his element. You know how you get energy from the sunlight? He doesn’t get that.”

Bella considers what you’ve said for a moment as she watches him. You look to Sorbet to see if she heard any of it too. The pretty Vulpix stops grooming herself for a moment, and jumps back into training. You guess she wants some of that praise, too.

And so, you give it. “Awesome hustle, Sorbet!”

Sorbet beams. She brings it down to a professional recognition of your words when Gobble looks over, though. She’s still not giving 100%, since she stops once in awhile to keep herself clean, but she’s definitely putting in an effort.

“Hustle!” Chatot repeats.

“He’s been doing that a lot.” Laki comments. “Repeating words without understanding them.”

You watched as he swoops down to Hana’s Togepi. “Hustle! Hustle!”

Togepi seems to be getting a little frustrated and annoyed at this. Hana is busy charging and Laki is working with Belladonna on something.

>Chatot, cut it out. Leave Togepi alone

“Wait, are you trying to give me a message?” You ask.

“Hustle! Hustle!” He repeats.

“Herb, could you...oh. It’s Chatot.” Laki says. “Chatot, for the last time. Cut that out. It’s not funny anymore. Be a team player and stop bugging everyone.”

“I think he’s trying to say something.”

“Yeah. Hustle.” Laki says sarcastically, giving you a smile to know not to take it too hard.

“I mean, communicate an idea.” You approach Chatot and Togepi. On a whim, you use your pokedex and look Togepi up. “I think her ability is Hustle.”

Chatot flaps his wings and bobs his head. Togepi looks confused, but no longer annoyed.

“You knew! You’re pretty smart, Chatot.” You pet him. “I bet you could learn a new move in no time. Umm, that is, if it’s okay with Laki.”

“Oh. Yeah. I thought we weren’t at a stage where we asked... um, yeah.” She steps up, Belladonna is practicing a move. She’s shooting out sharp leaves with some difficulty. “Sorry.”

“It’s fine, Laki. You’re right. We’re close enough, and I trust you enough, that we can just do things like this. And especially with Bella. She’s...well, she’d be an exception anyway.”

Bella is happy to hear this.

Laki looks relieved. “You’re adapting to Loanah pretty quickly, Soft Hands.” She picks up the small Grass type and goes back to training. “Teach Chatot something good.”

“What does that mean?” You softly ask yourself in confusion. You’re not offended or anything, just unsure of what to make of it.

“It’s an islander thing.” Abigail tells you in a voice low enough that nobody else can hear. “They what might call collectivists. My stuff is your stuff. My pokemon are your pokemon. Your town is my town. Your boyfriend is our boyfriend. But because everything gets spread and shared to everyone, nothing is special to anybody. So they fill that hole by going overboard with how special they say their clergy are, and how blind you have to be not to see it. I...ah. I’m going off on a rant.” She stretches. “Your friends seem fine. It ain’t right to attribute collective condemnations to individuals. It’d make me a hypocrite, too.”

>What the heck, Abigail! That’s so predjudiced!

You’re conflicted. “I don’t know. I’ve seen it sometimes and I don’t think you’re entirely wrong, but I also see them being really respectful of barriers. I think it’s just individuals acting like individuals.”

“I guess.” She says. “You’re still the shared boytoy of those two.”

“Actually that bit is my fault.”

She gives you a funny look. “You...huh.”

Nothing is said for a few moments. You watch as an islander approaches Keira.

“Old Ulu. He lives outside of our town but he visits a lot. Not a normal islander.” She says. “Never saw him bow before.” She keeps giving you sideways glances. “You set that situation up?” She shakes thought off. “Anyway, look at Keira. I don’t see a special envoy of the spirits or whatever. I see a sweet girl whose life is being squandered with pointless rituals and being so isolated that she’s still weird around boys. You should see how she acts when you’re not around. She’s...She’s a good girl, though. What a squandered life she’s had put on her.” The man bows again, and Keira beams and laughs. She looks satisfied. “Well, maybe it’s not all bad. Anyway, I’ve taken enough of your time.” She leaves you.

Chatot looks impatient.

“Guess you want to learn a new move, huh?”

“NEW MOVE! NEW MOVE!” He shouts.

“Okay, okay.” You laugh. “Let’s see...”

“How about Heat Wave?”

Chatot cocks his head. “Heat Wave!”

“Let’s do it!” You get excited. You guess there’s something neat about training a pokemon you haven’t trained before. You do your best to lead the way on how to use it, but don’t think you’re doing a good job. He makes a little progress, but you wouldn’t recommend using it in a battle.

“One more time!” You ask of him.

He obliges. He almost singes your eyebrow with that one. The form was nice, at least. He flies down next to you. “Wrong way! Wrong way!”

“It’s fine.” You tell him. “Let’s eat.

The group sits down to enjoy a nice break. The day is going by fast.

“So, Abigail, you’ve been giving us a lot of your time.” Hana says.

“Hmmm?” Abigail mumbles through the food in her mouth.

“She means, don’t you have a life to get back to?” Laki creatively interprets for Hana.

“Laki!” Keira chides.

“Nah. She’s honest.” Abigail waves off the concern. “But no. You’ve seen my town. There’s no life here.”

Nobody says anything after that. The sounds of Gobble eating especially loudly fill the air.

the difficulty in making your choices as "what the character would do" I find is that it is usually what your vision of what the character would do, which often time sways wildly with your personal interests and makes your decisions seem vindicated.

Laki and Hana chat. They’re getting closer every day. Keira settles in to meditate, which isn’t something you’ve seen her do a lot of lately. You guess she’s overdue.

“Hey, Abigial. Can I ask you something?” You watch Conqueror fly overhead.

“What’s up, Goldtop?”

“Would you want to travel with us?”

She almost chokes on her water. It takes her a minute to get some words out. “I’ve been around. And right now,” she looks to Laki, ”I don’t think I’d survive it. There’s only so many times I can make her jealous enough to spite-molest.” She laughs. “But seriously though. I don’t need rescuing or pity, or getting wrapped up in your whole...” she motions over you, Laki, and Hana, “thing. I’m a traditional girl. Flattered, though.”

“I just like your company. As a friend. I have some other friends I’d like you to meet, too. I think you’d get along.”

She looks into your eyes, like she’s searching for something. “....Ask me again later.” She says.

“What's the plan?” Hana says over to you.

“I was just about to ask if you wanted to train with us, if you’re ready.”

Hana rotates her arm. “Yup! 98%! I’ll get good for awhile. Umm, actually, maybe you can help me with something. If it’s not too much hassle. Actually, forget it. Let’s just train. Haha. Sorry.”

Well, you certainly aren’t going to let that go! You spend a few minutes coaxing it out Hana. Eventually, she confides in you that Chinchou still sometimes doesn’t listen to her. He doesn’t seem to respect her that much when it comes to battle commands. He’s friendly and always helps charge her, but he just feels like using different moves sometimes.

The two of you need to work on battle synergy; trust each other's instincts. A good battle might help us analyse where the miscommunication lies.

Let him know that if the two of them don't work together, you can't get stronger
>>
“Maybe another gym badge would help.” You tell her.

She scratches her chin. “Maybe. That is supposed to be a thing. I’ve seen it in a mov...well, I’ve read about it too.” She seems embarrassed at referencing the movie.

“And a good battle might be what he needs to learn to trust you.” You hope that didn’t sound to harsh. “I just mean, pokemon and trainers bond through that sort of thing, and if he sees the value in how smart your commands are, he’ll learn to trust you.”

“No. I get it. I’ve seen that a lot too.” She throws her hands up again. “In real life, I mean!”

“Opi pololei.” Keira says.

“Sorry?” Hana continues to look embarrassed.

“You know...”

Hana shrugs.

“The concept of pushed honesty?” Keira seems a bit weirded out that Hana doesn’t know this. “Where people and pokemon, when pushed, become more honest.” She puts a finger on her chin, thinking up an example. “Alright. Imagine gets frustrated every day about something, and one day they just snap and tell everyone around them what they really think of them. That’s opi polelei. Pushed honesty.”

“That doesn’t sound very nice.” Hana plays with her hair, very clearly uncomfortable.

“It doesn’t have to be annoyed. It’s anything where you’re pushed. Herb, you’ve had that happen, right? Where you’re stressed or cornered or tired or put on the spot and so you’re so honest with your reaction that you say something you might not even know you thought? What do you think?”

Keira clasps her hands and her eyes go wide. “Yes! That’s one of the reasons! Exactly! You understand!”

You and Keira talk about it for awhile. After a few minutes, you start to realize that Hana is getting left out. You turn back to her. “Anyway, I think working together on a challenge like taking on the gym could bring you closer together.”

"You're probably right. Heh. I guess I need to get more experience as a trainer instead of relying on movies. I didn't even make that connection with the lodges. it's obvious when you pointed it out."

"You're too hard on yourself. There's nothing wrong with associating with movies. It's what you're passionate about."

She gives a non-committal nod. You don't think she agrees with you necessarily, but she doesn't seem to want to voice a contradicting opinion, either.

You change the subject for now. “Since we’re training together, we can work on a good strategy.”

You lean down to Chinchou. “So, is it okay to teach him a move?”

“Why don’t you work with Dice? He’s got a unique perspective on things and I think you might be able reach him.”

“Umm, alright.” Hana isn’t sure what to make of that. You feel you didn’t phrase it all that well, but it’s already out there. You get like that with Hana sometimes, where you trip over your words. You hope she doesn’t mind. You get the feeling that she feels the same, a little. In a way, your shared, mutual awkwardness is a unique bond you have. But your mind is getting off track. You just think that Hana, with her passion for water pokemon and her understanding nature, would be good for Dice. And you think Dice’s relaxed nature might be good for her, too. Maybe you’re just overthinking it.

You turn to Chinchou. He looks up at you curiously.

“Hey, Chinchou, let’s talk while we train.” You pat a spot on a rock and he plops himself down. “We’re going to learn Thunder.”

He looks up at you some more.

“Don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it sounds. And you seem to have good control of your electricity.”

He cocks his head.

“Because you charge Hana.”

He finally gets it.

“Right. So I understand you’re not always listening to Hana when you battle.“ Real smooth, Herb. Subtle.

He shrugs. This is going to take awhile. You figure you’ll learn as you teach. You start with focusing his charge full negative, then full positive. Get used to swinging it back and forth. As you do, you talk about how you battled with Hana at the electric gym, and how she was so concerned with her Pokemon and what a clever battler she was. He seems to be coming around. You’re still not sure what his issue is, exactly, though.

“Let’s give it a shot, Chinchou. Thunder!”

Crackow! A thunderous bolt comes down from the sky, exploding a small crater on the ground.

“HOLY FUCK!” Hana leaps a good ten feet into the air, lands ungracefully, and dives under a slightly curved rock to use it as shelter before she looks up. “There aren’t any clouds.”

“Hana! I’m so sorry!” You rush over. It takes you a moment to explain you were just teaching Chinchou Thunder.

“Haha. Oh boy, there’s egg on my face.”

“I don’t see any.” Keira says. “Oh! It’s an expression. I get it.”

She clearly doesn’t get it.

After a few more minutes of apologizing to Hana, and her apologizing for making a scene, you finally notice it. Chinchou rolling his eyes at her. Does he think she’s cowardly? He saw how she went into the water with him. Maybe he thinks she’s too afraid of electricity? He charges her! Of course, now that you look back, you think you did notice her looking a bit nervous about it. Still, who is he to judge?

“Sun’s coming down.” Laki says, looking at the horizon.

“You can stay another night.” Abigail offers.

“I wasn’t going to ask if-”

“I insist.”

>Exchange the harshest words you can muster with Chinchou.

You put an arm on Hana’s shoulder and lead her away.

“What’s, uh, going on?” She smiles.

“It’s Chinchou,” you begin. You explain your idea that you think he lacks respect because of her fear of lightning.

“Yeah.” Her shoulders slump. “That just figures. It’s more than just lightning. Electricity in general. When it’s a plug and everything it’s different. That’s controlled. Grounded. Pokemon and nature, you don’t know what you’re going to get. If Chinchou decides to go all crazy while charging me, it could get really bad.”

Maybe that’s the issue. Maybe she’s not extending that trust to him when he charges her, and in sensing that, he doesn’t trust her when it comes to commands. But you ultimately decide to let her sort it out.

You retire off to Abigail’s house. On the way back, Hana and Laki fill you in. Laki taught Belladonna Razor Leaf, but she seems to only use it when she’s spooked by another attack as a reaction. Hana enjoyed her time with Dice, and taught him Endure.

You’re all pretty tired. Abigail complains about how much sun she got and how she wants a nice wide-brimmed hat. You thank her and prepare a nice supper with the few poor ingredients she has in the house. You wonder you’re all taking too much of her food, but she insists that it’s fine. She doesn’t eat much and she knows how to get by. That leaves you feeling even worse, despite her insistence.

You crawl into bed and fall asleep before Hana and Laki are able to join you.

And you dream of...

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

You dream about Grandpa, but only a little. Since arriving on the island, you’ve had some very vivid dreams. So much so that they almost feel real. But this is more just nostalgic. Barely there. A whisper and echo in your subconscious. You wake up feeling moderately refreshed. That’s good. It’s going to be an eventful day.

You wake up in an empty bed and stretch. There’s large mirror on a dresser with a crack in it that you use to adjust your clothing and hair to make sure it looks okay. Jeez, it might be time for a new outfit soon. The traveling life is rough on clothes.

Maybe, and this might be heresy, maybe it’s okay to consider denim.

You shake your head. You must just need some coffee. You head into the kitchen where the girls are all waiting.

“Herb!” Keira greets you.

“Soft Hands.” Laki greets you.

“Goldtop.” Abigail greets you.

“Oh. Umm, Herb...face!” Hana attempts. She hides her face under her hair right after the words leave her lips.

“We were just talking about what to do today.”

“I want to take on the gym right now.” Laki says, flexing. “I’m pumped.” Bella imitates her.

“I think it’s a good idea to visit the temple first.” Hana says quietly, scratching Dice and Tirtouga. “Learn all about grass types.”

“I’m with the megabeast over here.” Abigail says. “I want to see you guys take on the gym.”

Keira keeps her lips pursed, but it seems obvious she wants to go to the Grass Temple.

“I’d like to see the temple first.” You say, feeling the pressure of the deciding vote.

You expect more of an objection from Laki, but she seems fine with it. Abigail makes no comment.

You eat up and depart for the temple. The road is actually pretty long, and you find the group getting tired after a short while.

You can’t help but wonder about Abigail. Despite what she said about the Loanan culture and religion before, she seems genuinely friendly with Keira.

“What’s on your mind?” Hana asks out of nowhere.

“I don’t know. I haven’t really thought much about it until recently. I barely remember my life before the accident, and most of my life I’ve spent in a hospital or sometimes the orphanage. Don’t get me wrong, they were great there. But I just never felt like I belonged anywhere. The more I read and watched, the more I saw that perspective though. Of people not feeling like they belong. I just, I don’t know, sort of thought it was universal. Anyway, I stopped considering myself in a lot of ways. I got big into escapism stuff. Now that I’m on a journey, it does feel weird. I don’t think of myself as an islander, except I guess technically. But I don't think of myself as a lot of things. I’m just Hana, The Outsider.” She cringes. “That came out wrong. It sounds like some terrible edgy fanfiction character. I just mean that ‘fitting in’ dropped off as a priority for me. Sorry, that sounds really depressing. I didn’t mean it like that, either.”

You give her hand a squeeze.

The temple is not what you expected. There’s a massive, square, well-kept lawn. Neatly piled bags of soil line one side, and a lawnmower whizzes by. It reminds you a lot more of a corporate office building than the other temples you’ve seen. The nice greenhouses off to the side seem nice, though.

Keira’s jaw drops.

“It was different last year!” She says “I knew they were making changes, but...this is a lot. It used to be so pretty. Trees tangled with each other and around the building, and there were vines everywhere you could climb, and...and...”

“And now it’s modernized.” Laki says with jaded voice.

Keira looks crushed. Even through her thick face paint it’s clear as day she’s upset.

“I was just thinking about people.” You take a second to follow your thoughts. ”Hey Hana. Can I ask you something?”

“You just did.” She points finger guns at you. She quickly gives up on the gesture. “That came out lame. Oh hey, lame, get it? Because of my...nevermind. Anyway, yeah.” She looks really flustered now. She does that to herself a lot.

“You don’t really seem that connected to the island culture.” You pause, seeing if you overstepped any boundaries. She nods. “Do you feel left out, or bothered?”

“I’m sorry, Keira.” You put a hand on her shoulder. Usually she welcomes that sort of gesture, but she flinches.

“Oh. sorry.” She pulls it back. You get it. She’s gets conscious about it when she’s around a temple.

“Hey, that Grass priest you like is still here right?”

“Yes.” She absently nods.

“Well, that’s what really matters, isn’t it? This is just a building, but it’s the people that fill it that make it important.”

“I suppose you’re right.” She offers a weak smile. “Thanks.”

You don’t know if you made a big difference or not. She still looks like she’s had the energy sucked right out of her. But these things take time. Hopefully it’ll help her cope later.

You all enter into into the temple. The main entrance has a fountain with a slightly visible plastic tube. Keira watches as a real plant is removed and replaced with a plastic one.

“Even I think that’s tacky.” Abigail says, earning a fierce pair of stink eyes from Laki.

“How could he let this happen?” Keira sinks onto a bench.

The group begins to split up a little. Hana does you a great favor and stops Dice from diving into the fountain. Bella compares herself to the ne plastic plant and seems convinced she’s still prettier. Mace and Gobble hang out. Sorbet gently tests the stone tiles, curious about the way they feel on her paws.

Laki walks off. “I’m going to pay my respects, while I still have them.”

“I have to say, I’ve wanted an excuse to visit this place.” Abigail says. “Way nicer than I expected.”

Hana sits near Keira, not sure what to say or do. You guess everyone’s doing their own thing.

>>
You check in with Keira. Hana has a strange hover hand over the Ghost priestess’ shoulder. A young Grass acolyte comes by to greet them and see if he can help with anything, but seems to read the mood well and quickly excuses himself.

You search your memory, hoping you haven’t forgotten anything important. You think back to your time at Eelilee and remember the name of the joking, more relaxed Grass priest. “High Priest Koa would be the one in charge, right? I was thinking of going to see him to talk.”

“I’ll come visit later.” She says. “I don’t know what I’d say right now.”

Hana motions that she’ll stay with Keira.

You search around for a bit, looking for where he’d be. Abigail, you guess not knowing what else to do, follows with you and your pokemon.

“Hey, these rooms are pretty nice.” She points out some nice plant walls and modern looking glass casings around plants. An automated misting system on a timer sprays them as you walk by. “That’s cool. Must be expensive, though.”

“Oh, you wouldn’t believe.” A voice from behind says. You turn to see just the man you’re looking for. High Priest Koa. You forgot a lot about how he looked, but you definitely recognize that voice. He offers a bow. You notice it’s the same level he’s given Keira before. “I hear you’ve been doing a lot for the islands.”

“Yo. I’m Abigail.” The redhead beside you shakes his hand.

His eyes go wide in surprise, but he accepts it without comment. Maybe he’s just too shocked to react, or maybe he’s fine with it. You can’t tell. He did seem a lot more easy going than the others. You have shaken hands before, but that was before when you weren't as familiar with island culture. Are there different expectations now that you have a reputation?

>Return the same level of bow he gave you

Semen is not only nutritious, but it also has a wonderful texture and amazing cooking properties. Like fine wine and cheeses, the taste of semen is complex and dynamic. Semen is inexpensive to produce and is commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants. Despite all of these positive qualities, semen remains neglected as a food.

This book hopes to change that.

Uhhh, lets slow down a bit gents. Just because she's a bit of a perv doesn't make it right to just alter food like that without asking.

You decide to bow very deeply. You aren’t happy with how things are right now, but you don’t want to be rash. Still, if you don’t like what you hear, you’re going to flip like a pancake!

“Looks like Keira’s been a big influence on you.” He laughs. “Is she around?”

“She’s in the lobby.” You say. “She told me this building use to look different.”

He sighs, and starts to walk. He motions for you to follow. “I didn’t have the heart to tell her. I knew she’d react like that.”

“I didn’t -”

“You didn’t have to. I’ve known her since she was a tiny little acolyte, sneaking into our temple whenever she was on Tabo for her duties. She loved the vibrant life of our gardens, the trees, and the pokemon they drew in.

“But times changed, huh?” Abigail says, lifting a plastic lining on an indoor garden bed.

“That they do.” he says, a hint of annoyance at her finally showing. He lets it go as he picks up Bella. “You’re growing! Still as beautiful as ever, though.”

She giggles. He sets her down and she climbs all over as you continue to walk. She’s very curious about all the plants.

“I don’t like it much either, but it’s how things are now.”

“What do you mean?”

He peeks over his shoulders. “If I tell you too much, I’ll end up dragging you into it. Are you sure you want to get involved? People’s positions are on the line, little sapling. But as outsiders, you might be able to help. You must promise not to tell Keira.”

"That sounds shady! I'm so in!" Abigail whisper-shouts

>Sure. You’re in, if it means opposing this sort of thing

You grit your teeth. Secrecy and sneaking around isn’t something you like, at all. You’re an honest person. It’s just a better way to live, in your opinion. But you think back to how hurt Keira looked. You’d do a lot to protect the smile of your friend. It makes you feel a little dirty, but if you can help fix this situation, you’re in.

“Okay.” You say. “I’m in.”

He looks around. “Come with me.”

He leads you and your pokemon to an empty greenhouse. The sprinklers are running loudly. You stand in a dry spot, but still have a few spritzes rebounding off of things and getting you a little wet.

Abigail is nearly ready to burst from excitement. You think in part that it’s because she’s going to see some dirty laundry of the clergy. You worry that maybe she shouldn't be involved, but if the Koa thinks it’s okay, you won’t argue.

Then again, maybe he thinks the same thing, that you’re not saying no so it’s okay.

“I’ll keep it brief. The agricultural branch has gotten too powerful. We always had a balance in our temple. The branch of conservation. The branch of beauty. And the branch of agriculture. The conservationists have taken their lot up with smugglers on Take, who both want to preserve the hardwood forests. The smugglers of course, just like the heavy woods and lack of industry to hide their activities, and the conservationists spend their energy keeping their members out of trouble there. The beauticians have fallen completely into disarray. They used to be our pride, creating wonderful gardens, breeding rare strains of flowers, developing perfumes, and leading in symbolic styles that grew the soul. But the youth these days have turned to....blue jeans miniskirts.”

“I haven’t seen that much here.” Abigail says.

“You haven’t been to Huka or Terichi lately.” He replies. “It’s fine in moderation. Everything is. But the beauty branch overreacted. They struggled for relevance and tried all sorts of things. Shock value was too much. It...what do you call it? Backfried.”

“Backfired.” Abigail corrects.

”Yes. Well, with those two branches losing their relevance and power, and the new populations and vispum farming of the islands making agriculture more important, things are out of balance. And they’ve decided on the new look of the temple, feeling a shift in culture will bring in more agricultural investors.”

“Right. Right. So what are we going to do about it?” Abigail says.

“I hate to say this. I’m from the agriculture branch. But we need to strike a blow to the vispum industry.”

It’s now clear why he didn’t want Keira involved. This sounds criminal!

“Woah! That’s some serious stuff.” Abigail says.

“I agree. Isn’t there something else we can do?”

“Oh. Why didn’t I think of that?” He sarcastically mocks. “Something else!” He takes a moment. “I’ve been under stress. That wasn’t right to lash out. I hope you can understand.”

You nod.

“I’ve gone through a lot of different scenarios. I just...I don’t have faith in the beauty branch. They’ve fallen to become fad chasers. They’ve forgotten the weight and power of traditions. And the conservationists care more about looking like preserving the nature of the islands than actually doing it. I can understand their difficulties, at least. There’s no recognition in keeping disasters from happening. No rewards or praise for another thousand days of nothing happening. Besides their teaming with smugglers for the one thing they actually accomplish, they have nothing else to show. Nothing to show pride in to the outside observer.” He moves to kick a rock, but stops when he sees it’s Mace. He gives the pokemon a gentle pat on the head.

“You’re right.” Abigail says. “I’ve got nothing for those problems.”

Your mind races. You’ve got to come up with something to try before they do something crazy.

If the beauty people are fad chasers, trying to get into mainlander culture, why don't we and Val team up to give them a fashionable flair on traditional islander culture?
>cultural appropriation

And for the conservationists, show them that their history is worth something, that mainlanders will make the effort if given a chance. If they don't take action, they will be lost to history.

“I have some ideas about lifting the other branches up.” You say, desperately.

He paces back and forth, then sits. As he does, he checks the underside of a leaf. Satisfied, he checks Dice’s teeth for something. Seeing nothing that gives him any concern, he picks a tomato and tosses it to Gobble. He just can’t seem to stop, even if he’s in no particular hurry. “You need to understand. Once it’s clear I’m either kicking my own branch down, or threatening its relative power by lifting the others up, I’ll be a target. There’s a driven young man aiming for my position, and his successes have made him popular. I’m fine with falling from grace like a clipped branch, but it’s wasting the opportunity I couldn’t stand. I’ve failed in a lot of ways, thinking that just maintaining the growth was all it took to lead. But I see how much I’ve neglected and missed. I looked at the plants, and not the soil.”

Abigail seems to have shifted her attitude a bit. “Hey, we all make mistakes. It’s pretty brave of you to put your career on the line.”

“It’s not that brave.” He smiles. “It never meant that much to me. It just meant less lifting bags of dirt or digging.”

“So, can we get Keira involved? She’d love to-”

“No!” he says firmly. Keira is...she’s a believer more than almost anyone else I see climb to her rank. I don’t want her to get jaded from my mistakes. And I don’t want her to be seen as a threat to my own rivals.” He waves away the subject. “Young Herb. You’ve earned a reputation as a problem solver. I’ll hear your ideas.”

>>
>>1901222
thanks for running Gobble
>>
>>1901230
The politics isn't really my favorite. Maybe it's weird that Herb, being so young and an outsider, is taken seriously. Or I could just be conflict averse.

Although, I am looking forwards to learning about the normal temple, and politicking to get Kontote their freedom of religion back.

I would like to know what the name of Hana and Laki's relationship is.

Has Dad told Mom about our relationship yet? I'm looking forwards to seeing how Val and Polu react to our good news.

I've tried running a quest, and the speed and regularity with which you update is very impressive.

>>1901257
Herb just has to take the initiative. I'm ready for Herb to go all the way. The only question is how he'll pick who to bone first. Spiritual possession would be nice, but so would deciding that he'll take his next right moment with either of them.
>>
>>1901264
Oh, and also, that was a very lewd bin. I'm loving these doses of alt-perspective character building, but we need a non-lewd bin from a pokemon's perspective someday. An island of the giant pokemon episode, or something.
>>
>>1901268
I think a Bella bin would be cool.
>>
>>1901264
I like anything where we are effecting the islands so I like the politics in that regard. I really just want to help this temple, so Keira can be happy with the Temple's future. I enjoy the characters the most. So, I hope we run into the others soon. Feels like its been a while since we've seen the rest of Herbs friends.
>>
>>1901274
I was thinking Gobbo, or Mace. Any would be good though.
>>
>>1901285
It would be funny to have a bin where Mace sits in the same spot all day but all this crazy shit happens around him and he's contemplating all those events

I've fallen off following a lot of the quests due to IRL lately but I do have an observation or two:

Maybe it's to do with my own approach to the games but I'm kind of dissatisfied with how the team is coming along. It's like the interpersonal drama is drawing attention from training, which even if the goal isn't Kat's level of hax, it feels like Herb is going to fall in a heap without some dedicated training soon.

The second thing I've noticed is that things are getting more 'political' lately with the temples almost replacing a villainous team with trying to solve the problems going on there.

I'm not advocating a dungeon dive after the first one and how close the third one was but it could break the monotony.

Basically: We need to train a bit more, we could do with a healthy, character building dose of danger and the tense excitement it would bring.
And maybe an antagonist for an arc or something.

Escaped Hornbeam trying to become relevant (again)? :P
>>
>>1901697
Basic Pokemon Plotlines:
>Personal goals
Cook your way to greatness, and become a better man
>Village issues
Whatever monster of the week
>Supernatural occurrences
Fug/Keira and Polu stuff
>Grand Reoccurring Evil to rage against
*Sir Not Appearing In This Film*
>>
>>1901717
How about Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain?
That's what Hornbeam was before he went right off the deep end and who doesn't like how cheesy that can get?

I know pokemon anime is kind of lazy with its plotlines and glaringly so when compared to the manga but conflict drives narrative and hey it's not like the journey to Vernon's house during the last quest wasn't a blast.

Or the cave path earlier on in this quest.

Just *something* to break the monotony.
>>
>>1901722
We haven't seen Max in a while, maybe he can be good to fill that role.
>>
I just want more training of our mons, we used to train everytime we made camp with Kat now I feel like it's more of a every now and then kind of thing.
>>
>>1901837
>>1901697
I agree with these guys. I know we just trained, and Gobble rights good characters, but I've been just reading threads after they are done because it feels like the drama has become the main thing. When I say drama I just mean all the person to person, I'm interested in the temple thing.
>>
>>1901837
To be fair Kat's goal was to win the League while Herb has been just doing it for fun so far
>>
Fuck me I missed the entire session and I'm going to miss tomorrows.

Bin was terrific, 10/10, goddamn woolad it's a mastuhpiece.

I'm fine with some politics, especially when it can directly effect on of our friends on a very real and emotional level like it has with Kiera.

I'm not quite fine with people not telling Kiera but I can get why.

The pace hasn't felt all that bad to me, it's been a lot of cultural lore related stuff and introducing new and possibly reoccurring characters,

Abigail is fun and I'd like to see her be frenemies with Laki some more.

More than anything the only parts I could complain about are the 'guillotines' hanging over Herb. His mother's and friend's reactions to his new relationship, Fug, money, island mysteries like what will happen when we talk about the cause of the disaster.

I'm really interested in more character time, more training and battling, and Herb really solidifying what this journey was about, what goals he wants to reach.
>>
I don't know if this has already been said, but.... I'm a little bit salty that the archive for last thread says Herb does the deed, when he, inDEED, did not. :(
