You are Colors Eriksdotter, the Warlock Knight of Spring, and you've wrapped up this small meeting with your liege lady.

"I don't suppose I could get a pick-me-up?" you ask, a little shyly. You catch an absolute poker face of blank incomprehension from Ramona. "Um. Eternal Spring has that clause that -"

"Right, yes," Ramona Rabbit says with some small relief. "Certainly." You get a chaste kiss on the forehead and feel invigorated, as if you'd rested a day and a night; Ramona's Mantle rises with soft Spring rains and the scent of cherries on the breeze. "Go in good health, Colors."

"Thank you again, Ramona." You get up and slip out of the room, a little less confused, and feeling significantly unburdened. Your phone is calling your name, and you text Fancy, asking if she'd like to meet up.

[My place] she invites, and with it comes an address. With a certain amount of difficulty you manage to find and use the Google Maps on your phone and set off that way with a spring in your step. It's gonna be a good day.

Literally untrue. I respect Vox and don't start shit in his quests.
Rook IS a heartless bastard, but IF he already has his "things" back from Raven, he may be friendly.

Fancy's place is in one of the old brownstone apartment buildings that flourished for awhile. It's not exactly like the ones you catch on TV; New Avalon demands a certain amount of lawn, a certain class of fencing, certain standards of presentation, so it's been whitewashed and scrubbed up, with a neatly trimmed lawn of deep green grass that's certainly not even remotely native to this place.

Your dad taught you to recognize bad signage, and the lettering that spells 'COZY COTTAGE APARTMENTS' is almost painful to look at. There's a well-kept buzzer panel at the front door; you hit the button with Fancy's name on it.

"Fancy," she answers, pleasantly.

"It's Colors."

"Come on in! First floor, third door on your left." The door buzzes, letting you in, and you give it an easy tug. Inside, the place smells clean, but almost suspiciously so. There's a subtle tang of acrid chemicals that suggests overzealous use.

At least the smell of weed deeper into the hall, drifting out of a door on the right side, reminds you that human beings live here.

Fancy slips out of her apartment door, calling, "Gimmie a minute," back inside of it, and turns to meet you. She jolts in surprise, then concern. "Sweet Jesus, Colors, what happened?"

"I didn't die?" you offer. "I'll heal. With time, and some treatment. Who were you talking to?"

"I have Rita here to talk over stuff for Chicago," Fancy admits. "We've been a thing every now and again. Would you prefer her gone?"

> Yeah?

> Nah I'll meet your friend/she can come too

We just defeated a dangerous foe and saved a bunch of people from themselves and also the deadly if you're lucky horrors of the Fae.

We need to celebrate. I say we go out. I would still like to swing by the Arcade so that Vicky can meet our motley and see them as they are on their "own turf" as it were.

Also so they can brag for us about how awesome we were.

If we're serious about Fancy then we have to include her in that side of our life. We have to hang out with her as well as do the whole emotional/date stuff. And if we just want to be friends then we shouldn't exclude her just because we might not date. That's a shitty thing to do to someone because it means that if we don't end up together we'll stop hanging out. Which means we never wanted to be friends in the first place.

We can swing by, say hi, and then let Fancy socialize with the crew and ask questions and such while we chat with Forum privately for a bit. It's a good excuse to see him and she'll be a convenient distraction since she's a new person who is extroverted and sociable.

Maybe make sure to ask her if she minds entertaining everyone while we chat with Forum quick. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

Then we can go out from there. Maybe hit a club, or go hang out at a park, or do some karaoke.

But come on guys. We just had a big success and we should share the celebrating around.
>>
>>1897600
we can do that after meeting her friend too you realize
>>
>>1897300
I don't think Colours has a horrific appearance. Strange yes but glamorous. Like living art.

As for sexual intentions, kind of feels like while we definitely have sexual desires the intention is on hold while we figure out what we want and what we can commit to with Fancy.

Honestly that's why I just want us to go out and hang with our Motley with her. Take the pressure off so we aren't making the relationship all about the emotional and sexual tension.

With other people around it'll give us the chance to learn more about each other as we talk about our lives and she talks about hers. Also we can learn more about our friends as they talk to Fancy.

Just go out, enjoy each other's company, and see where the night goes. Get to know each other a little bit better, but by shared positive experience instead of serious and emotionally draining tension.

We don't have to resolve everything right now. It could actually make things worse if we make all of our time spent together about that, because then people associate it with having to go through an emotional wringer and they start to avoid it or resent it.

And maybe we can decide to split by ourselves after and go out with just the two of us. Or maybe we go out as a group and have a raging night on the town.

Also I don't want another dragging thread about it.
>>
>>1897615
>We just had a big success and we should share the celebrating around.
Indeed. Remember Summer's hardcore celebration from a earlier quest ?
>>
>>1897615
Yeah I don't see a conflict there either. But I'm going to bed so I wanted to put it out there.

I want us to have fun spending time with Fancy as well as the serious stuff.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just projecting mistakes I made in relationships when I was younger and tried so hard to make it work and figure it out that they just became work and stopped being enjoyable.

I like interactions with Fancy because embarrassed Colors is funny.
>>
>>1897666
I like it because I like both characters and how they play off eachother, fairy chaser and ...reverse fairy chaser?

and fancy is hot
>>
>>1897690
>reverse fairy chaser
I'm sure there are Chngelings who prefer a life partner or friends that don't have PTSD or other...unsettling proclivities. But Colors doesnt seem to be one of them.
>>
>>1897690
That's the thing. Fancy doesn't want to be seen as just a Fairy chaser, and she doesn't want Colours to use her to make her life "normal".

We have to learn to trust Fancy to be around fae people and . . . fae Culture I guess? Not Fae with the capital F.

But we have to trust that she'll be respectful and cautious around it so she doesn't get hurt or hurt someone else, ie learn and follow the rules. But also that she'll see them and us as people first still, and that we won't be embarrassed or ashamed of it and try to hide it from her or scare her away from it "for her own good".

Because it IS part of us and we both have to be able to accept that without making it all about that.

Personally I don't think Colours should be looking for a serious relationship at all right now. Especially with a Mortal, because if we're going Magic Knight Cop then she's going to be in much more danger, and she doesn't have all the experience not dying fae that return do. I'm not saying she shouldn't be open to it if it comes up, but we don't know what our life is going to be like coming up. Are we going to be gone for days or weeks chasing people into the hedge? Will Fancy miss us then? Will it bother us if she doesn't, if we miss her while we're gone? Will she be willing or able to live life checking exits and blind spots, carrying a weapon, following rituals that might seem restrictive or unfair?
>>
>>1897813
>or unfair?
Unfair how. If you choose to have an affair with a person with...enemies, you made that choice. Not like Colors will keep that fact hidden from her on purpose.
>>
>>1897867
Contracts and oaths bind a person by what they swear, not what they meant to swear. Changeling and other fae bind themselves by habit as well, so she'll have to be quite careful about that.

I assume there's other rules of etiquette to follow. There's definitely a casual attitude towards violence. Also there's the fact that the Courts are definitely NOT democracies. Also you have people like Rachel that are too powerful to control but not dangerous enough to have to kill.

I'm not saying it's unfair because she's in danger from our enemies. If she puts the effort into it she can handle it. She's an adult.

I'm saying that in order to deal with our enemies, and because of the power scale fae can throw around, fae society accepts a lot more restrictions on freedom and privileges in order to keep everyone and thing under control.

TANJ It. There Ain't No Justice in the Courts, only law and order.

So surprising ABSOLUTELY NO ONE (and yet enraging myself) I leave for work in thirty minutes and won't be able to update.

Right now I'm kinda leaning towards the overall idea expressed where you meet Fancy's friend and then get your Motley around to go out and celebrate. I'll be home sometime around 10 PM; if I've somehow misunderstood this as the intended course of action, you've got 'till then to let me know.
>>
>>1897620
>I don't think Colours has a horrific appearance. Strange yes but glamorous. Like living art.
Normally, no. But Fancy visibly recoiled at seeing her this time, so she's clearly at least moderately disturbing at present. Thanks, John.
>>
>>1898028
I just realised that this was honestly kind of a dick move by Fancy. "Yeah I have a friend over already. Just working on the Chicago thing. Also we sometimes hook up. But I can kick my fuckbuddy out if you want."

Like, hey, we didn't ask about it. We aren't in a relationship so it's not like she can't see other people, but it's not fun to have that sort of thing sprung on you.

Not to mention putting the decision to send her off or have her stay around on us like that. Either tell us ahead of time that there's someone there and you're busy with some work stuff and we can meet later, or tell Rita that you have a romantic interest coming over so you want to wrap it up and head out.

Or don't mention that you're also banging her occasionally until later instead of putting us on the spot like that. Like is this some sort of red pill shit testing to see how we handle it? Or some petty passive aggressive revenge for us ghosting for three days and then just randomly texting her and then arriving all torn up from the battle?

She's always seemed to be quite emotionally intelligent and empathetic, so I don't think she is simply too self centered to be unaware that it might be uncomfortable for us to find out she has a history of hooking up with her coworker, or that telling us that voluntarily for no reason right before we come in is bad timing, or that putting the decision on how to handle it at the same time is unfair because no matter what we choose it'll be uncomfortable and it makes it seem like we agreed to or created the situation.
>>
>>1898028
Fuck. When we get in we should just face it head on like a true Knight.

> You should have told me you were busy with work stuff. I don't want to interrupt that. But I did want to spend some time with you and catch you up on what happened. Also I was planning to celebrate a little with the Motley, and I wanted you to be there and get to know my friends better. Also because a triumphant Knight's greatest reward isn't the glory or gold, but returning to her Lady.

> Your friend can come along too if she wants. I want to get to know your friends better as well. If she's not into it or has other plans though that's understandable.

> I don't think your hooking up with her bothers me, but I mean that kind of came out of left field. I'm glad you're being open about it with me, but it is a little uncomfortable. I mean. I don't want to put pressure on you or anything while I figure myself out, and I'm happy that you're not making yourself miserable either. But I am a little jealous and a little guilty that you would kick her out if I asked you to.

> So if you could help me with getting to know her and making friends with her I would really appreciate that. Otherwise I'll have to use my fallback plan which is talking about you and asking her for embarrassing stories from before we met, and maybe some tips on seducing you. Just in case.

Too wordy I know. But I'm not a languager. I'd rather use more words to get the cone across and let Vox trim it or outright discard it.
>>
>>1898256
Colors isn't the only person in her life.
It's a bit rude to have company already when you're having somebody else over, but it'd also be rude to kick your friend out. Zero-sum rudeness, effectively.

You're right that "yeah I fuct this girl before" is a social oddity. I'm not sure to attribute this to honesty on the grounds of full disclosure, to testing the waters to see how Colors reacts to her having history, or just her putting her foot in her mouth because she's still surprised at Colors looking bad.
>>
>>1898223
Point. Although I don't know if I'd say it was because we look horrific so much as "Badly Wounded".

>>1898259
> summation

Apologize for interrupting her work. Ask her out. Invite her friend. Say we're probably okay with the whole fuckbuddy thing but explaining that finding out like this is a little difficult. Then ask her for some support in dealing with the the situation to make sure that it's positive and productive. We want to build a stronger relationship with her, whether it's just as friends or a romantic relationship.

Also now I want to add

> express anxiety about how we look. Is it that bad? Will we scare her friend? Did we scare Fancy? Oh god we're a monster.
>>
>>1898256
You do remember that we have an honesty pledge active right now? Mentioning that they have had a couple of flings at the door is less awkward than Colors asking about their relationship in front of Rita, and Fancy being obligated to answer.
>>
>>1898279
She's trying to remain in the spirit of her pledge. Plus it's following up on something she already told you.

It's not rude to tell your friend that someone is coming over and you want to spend time with them. That's reasonable. It's also not rude to say "I'm finishing up some work with someone, can we meet up at a later time".

It's maximum rudeness to say to your friend when the person gets there "Hey I might want to date this perso and they've been out of touch for a couple of days so I invited them over. They're uncomfortable with you being here because we have been hooking up though; So I'm going to need to cancel the rest of our work tonigh and if you could head out that'd be, just, great."

Like I said, Fancy has presented as fairly emotionally aware and socially adept so far. Also she knew that we were coming over and didn't do anything to resolve the situation or prepare us or anything before she even saw our wounds.

It's hard to see this as unintentional.

However that is actually irrelevant to handling the situation.

All we can do is be honest about what we definitely want without promising or expecting more, and be honest about how we feel, and ask her to help us out with the socializing.
>>
>>1898292
Is it? Because unless we ask "Hey are you two sleeping together" there's plenty of valid, accurate answers.

> You and Fancy will be honest with each other about your intentions for your relationship and if you feel you have fallen in love with someone else. You gain a +1 bonus on Perception rolls made to read moods from this Pledge, which lasts for one month.

Unless she's in love with Rita, or she plans to not date us because they're hooking up or whatever, the pledge doesn't apply.

However! Fancy IS a mortal so she might be anxious about the pledge or unclear about what falls under it or not.

So now we have another thing to talk to her about.

>>1898028
> Ask Fancy if she brought up her relationship with Rita because of the Pledge. If so, go over what the pledge does and doesn't cover because it's important that she understand how precise they are. Both so she can have more freedom but also so she doesn't make other pledges and them get burned when the fae doesn't "uphold" it.
