average of 59.66 a decent success

Your troops brace for the vehicle assault from the greenskin horde, badly outnumbering your troops....

Most of your troops and vehicles take defensive positions around the gargant, while two companies from the 3rd Ranger regiment quickly displace and move further into the prison camp, where they take up positions in buildings along the route of approach the Greenskins are taking, setting up in cover, with several missile launchers, lascannons, autocannons, with a few Rangers equipped individually with plasma and meltaguns....

The Valkyies and Vendettas do their best to engage the enemy vehicle column from the air but are dissuaded by heavy ground fire, losing one of their number to the large number of heavy automatics on the ork vehicles.....

Unfortunately, a group of Ork Kommandos, previously dropped off their kopters have managed to infiltrate within 30 yards of the defensive positions and have opened fire on several tank crews who were out of their vehicles doing maintenance and taking a break before the next fight, killing several of them, and causing a degree of confusion in the defense area, which is quickly brought under control by your experienced officers and non-commisioned officers, who immediately direct several sharpshooters perched atop the gargant to engage the kommandos, while a company of rangers shifts to engage them....

Meanwhile the forward Ranger companies, allow the first few vehicles to pass unhindered as the Ork column speeds by before opening up on the unsuspecting greenskins, several missiles rise up towards the greenskins as if summoned, followed by the sights and sounds as Lascannons bark, while the staccato of heavy automatic weapons tear into the unarmored passenger compartments of several trukks, slaughtering their occupants in a matter of moments....

The Rangers are able to destroy several dozen vehicles before the sheer volume of fire and losses taken force them to withdraw from the fight, dispersing into the buildings and and dense machinery of the camp, forcing several hundred greenskins to dismount and follow them....

Unfortunately in the initial defense, one of the small buildings collapsed due to being struck by several tank cannon shells, killing most of the squad sheltering inside almost instantly, the badly wounded survivors quickly finished off by the greenskins....
>>
>>1898599
Meanwhile, closer to the Gargant, the rest of the column has continued moving towards your forces, with your baneblade tank trading long range shots with several of the Ork tanks, disabling several, and outright destroying a few....

It doesnt take long before your other tanks get in the fight, loading armor piercing shells for the enemy tanks and high explosive for the Ork infantry, the undiciplined greenskins attack in poor order, leaving many of their vehicles exposed at the same, compared to ours which make use of line of sight and building cover, along with skilled shooting to stifle the Ork attack....

Only 4 Leman Russ tanks are lost, compared to over 2 dozen Ork tanks.....

It doesnt take much more to break the Orks morale, their attack being completely stopped and failing specaturarly....

A. Counter-attack immediately
B. Wait for reinforcements then slowly take the camp from the Greenskisn

A. Counter-attack immediately

In-universe war theory and practical examples all suggest that you should never disengage from a retreating force of Orks. Attempts must continue to prevent them reorganising and their energies being focused.
>>
>>1898648
>>1898631
Your vehicles begin a large scale counter attack, supported by 2 more ranger companies, while in the meantime, reinforcements are finally brought in from the orbiting fleet above, consisting of 2 more Leman Russ squads from 2nd Mechanized regiment and 3 companies of infantry, riding on 20 Chimeras. also from the 2nd.

Your main counterattack quickly crushes most of the greenskin vehicles and infantry, putting them into a disorganized flight, with only pockets of resistance from Nobs rallying troops to their side, which are quickly dealt with using airstrikes and overwhelming firepower, with sponson and hull mounter heavy bolters reaping a gory harvest out of the regular Ork boyz, clearing the way for Rangers running shortly behind them, who gun down any Ork survivors......

In addition shuttles and Valkyries are used to bring down 4 more Ranger companies as well, who quickly join the assault, while Valkyrie mounted airborne troops, move to take out the network of guard towers, overlooking most of the prisoners, in order to support a large scale revolt.....

The 2 Ranger companies that went out earlier, are quickly relieved by the arriving troops and airsupport and continue pushing into the interior of the camp where most of the prisoners are held.....

The guard towers are quickly eliminated by droptroopers picking off the guards, or by attacks from your aircraft, which quickly destroy several of them, as droptroopers equipped with Tzavara's tau-based plasma guns or sniper rifles, take the Ork guards place and begin picking off enemy guards and officers, causing the prisoners to start and uprising, many turning their picks and shovels against their captors, slaying dozens of Ork guards, but costing the lives of many slaves....

After a few hours of fierce fighting, it seems the Orks have been purged from the camp, with hundreds of their vehicles destroyed, leaving just over 10,000 humans slaves still alive after the harrowing revolt, where individual greenskins were able to slaughter dozens of human slaves at a time in close range, the emaciated slaves offering little challenge to the massive beasts....

The camp is quickly secured, and defenses are established with several ridges and areas of rough terrain helping to form some natural defenses, while simple fieldworks are erected, including defensive ditches and trenches, while several ferrocrete bunkers are molded and poured into critical defensive positions, and should be ready for battle within a few weeks.....

Where should we attack next?

A. The canyons, we will likely face heavy resistance here, even after an orbital bombardment, with Sneaky Stabbas main base hidden among the Canyon, in bunkers and deep underground, where only a ground troops can get them.... You believe this is his main base
B. The Capital ruins- with Auriok city bombarded and then brutally pillaged, it is little more than a ruin now, mostly pockmarked and scarred by the lasfire and heavy ork rounds from the last major stand of the Separatist defenders, with the worlds PDF rallying and fortifying their capital for a last stand, unfortunately, they left the sewers lightly guarded, and Sneaky Stabba and his elite kommando nobs managed to lead a large force through the sewers, silently eliminating the sewer guards, and managing to infiltrate key parts of the city, before launching a massive surprise attack on the unsuspecting defenders, cutting down many of the Separatists in the opening moments, leaving only a few minor pockets of resistance that were quickly silenced by grenades and
heavy automatic fire

The Capital would be a strong symbolic victory, but will likely be the most costly, with a significant amount of the Greenskin strength there. It is also well connected by the worlds surviving infrastructure to the rest of the planet

average of 26, an embarrassing failure

The approach to the Capital City is uneventful as there is little resistance in the surounding areas, only from small groups of orks, which are quickly isolated and eliminated.....

The assault on the Capital City is multi pronged, with an air assault attacking the center, while a mechanized force attacks down several main roads....

As the mechanized column moves up the road, a huge number of improvised explosives go off, destroying and disabling a dozen vehicles, and wiping out several squads inside of their Chimera transports, while forcing other troops to make an emergency dismount, where they are cut down by Ork Kommandos hidden along the road, the Orks give your army a bloody nose and a few hundred Kommandos led by kommando nobs inflict hundreds of casualties and destroy and disable a large number of vehicles....

Eventually with artillery and air support the Kommandos are wiped out, but not before delaying the mechanized column significantly

In the meantime the air assault force has had more success, able to take several large defensible buildings in the city center, but are currently besieged by a large number of Ork Boys, as well as some vehicles and deff dred walkers.....

They are currently holding, and trading fire with the orks, but have starting to wrack of casualties from ork sharpshooters and constant low level bombardment....

At the same time the ships in orbit inform the commanders that another orbital bombardment is ready.....

A. Target the besieging orks in the city, these will land close to your troops

The bombardment strikes a fair sized area on the surface, destroying the orks roaming the surface, as well as some hangars and vehicle bays not buried deep enough, seeming to destroy them and a large number of Ork aircraft and vehicles inside.

In the meantime your mechanized column, consisting of the surviving Leman Russ tanks and chimeras of the 2nd Mechanized regiment along with infantry support from several companies of Ranger troops, who are now checking along the road, ahead of the slow moving column for explosives and ambushes, and have foiled several ambushes with relatively light losses....

They are pushing into the Capital city and despite facing tough resistance, manage to fight past hordes of greenskins and vehicles with less than 200 casualties to the outskirts of the siege.....

In the next few hours, the ferocity of the ground assault, along with many supporting airstrikes break the orks morale, despite several counter attacks by Kommando troops....

Eventually the city is secured, and flamer troops are brought in to get rid of the spores, unfortunately razing part of the city in the process....

However we finally can launch an attack on the canyon base....

A. Attack from the surface entrances and holes, created by the bombardment
B. Use a tunnel connecting the canyon to the sewer system, however only infantry can use this way

You organize a two pronged assault, with the mechanized forces, supported by rangers and airborne troops attacking via the canyons, striking via the surface entrances, and holes made by the bombardment...

Meanwhile a small force, consisting of several hundred volunteers makes their way through the sewer system, launching their attack after the main assault has begun, distracting most of the greenskins....

The Luna Wolves also still remain in reserve and could be deployed as terminator or other type of squad along with the sewer assault force.....

average of 58, a mediocre result

The two pronged assault begins, with a bombardment from chimera batteries from the 2nd Mechanized before vehicles and dismounted infantry, supported by aircraft make their way towards the canyon entrances of the ork base....

Unfortunately, buried deep in the back of main entrance, the orks have placed a massive artillery piece, which they are using as an anti tank weapon, destroying 2 Leman Russes in short order, before our men realized where the exactly the shots were coming from....

The fighting at the main entrance is brutal, as heavy automatic fire from entrenched Orks kill many of our troops, now deprived of their tank support, as they try to rush the heavy artillery piece, unfortunately they seem to be making poor progress....

Airborne troops, however have been dropped onto the heights of the canyon, where several breaches into the base were made by the planetary bombardment attack, and have already roped down and captured some upper level rooms, although they are facing moderate resistance, and have taken a few dozen casualties, from Ork boys that happened to be in the part of the base....

After almost an hour of brutal fighting, with many of the assaulting infantry dead, the airborne troops finally rope into the main entrance chamber and silence the heavy anti tank gun, quickly killing its crew and allowing our tanks to move up...

Meanwhile the sewer borne troops make their way into the base, and find it surpisingly poorly defended, the Orks not knowing that we were aware of their sneak attack to get the city from recordings of communications by the Separatists before they fell completely to the greenskins....

They easily defeat the Ork boys guarding the tunnel, and make their way into the base.....

The young Captain leading the sewer assault force, following one of the liberated human slaves, guides the men down into a large chamber deep within the Canyon base, where several large machines, resembling mini gargants are being constructed, as the men begin to file into the chamber they come under fire from Ork sharpshooters on the other side of the chamber, as well as close range fire, from a seemingly invisible foe, the men take cover and begin to fire back, with a plasma bolt hitting the unseen enemy, revealing a damaged def dread, with some sort of crude cloaking device attached to it....

The quality of your men and their equipment really shines in the savage battle in the chamber, as some of the fighting devolves into hand-to-hand combat, with Ork boyz and gretchins rushing your troops, using the cover of the mini-gargants and the various piles of equipment and junk around them, randomly charging and engaging your men in melee combat, leading the Captain to order your troops to fix bayonets, with many troops also carrying chainswords and chainaxes, often not officially issued from looted weapons acquired during the decade of your PDF's existence with Sergeants, Officers and longtime veteran troops often armed with the superior weapons.
Experience with melee weapons from your World's primitive beginings and with the training of Zachias, your men are better than the average Imperial Guardsmen, fighting on a level, still below Cadian standards.

Your PDF started with it's elite regiments created in the beginning, with a larger number of regular infantry regiments being raised afterward, many of the less experienced and lower level troops are armed with Tarkonian war axes, popular all over the your world, made of steel and sharpened bone, still potent weapons, despite their primitive nature....

Your Rangers, Mechanized and Airborne troops having a great deal of experience, including battles with the undead, separatists, heretics, hivers, orks and even with chaos space marines, especially the battle on the space station, with the few men that survived the firefights with Chaos Terminators in the cramped confines of the spacestation corridors, your men took heavy casualties given the limited cover, and their lack of ability to match the speed and durability of the massive Khorne-worshipping Astartes, who used many chain and power weapons....

Using rocks, rubble and the narrow passage into the chamber itself as cover, your men are able to hold the passage to the chamber against a massive greenskin counter attack, as Sneaky Stabba, along with a large Cadre Kommando Nobs, leading a several hundred elite Ork Commandos join the fight, rallying the Greenskins with the power of the WAAAAAGHH, using sneaky tactics using ridiculous disguises, with some Kommandos dressing themselves as canyon rocks, while many others use canyon color cloth, to at least camoflauge in a more effective way, often demonstrating higher dicipline, allowing them to accurately fire at your troops from cover at long range......
>>
>>1914532
The regular Orks boys are pushed back at the cost of a great deal of sweat and blood, as the rest of your men are forced to engage the Kommandos and other Orks at long range......

Your men are reinforced fortunately at the last minute as troops from the 3rd Ranger Regiment(The Ashave Raptors) arrive from the main assault just in the knick of time, as half of the strike force have been slain, with another quarter wounded....

It doesnt take long for the rangers to set up some heavy weapons and a strong defense, even pushing back the Greenskins a little bit....

You are advised the a team of combat engineers are currently rigging up explosives to blow an alternate entrance into the chamber, allowing your vehicles to enter and join the fight....
However your men can see Sneaky Stabba reorganizing the greenskins for another push....

A. Have the men present rush the Greenskins and try to kill Sneaky Stabba

As your men open fire on Sneaky and his bodyguards, the lasers, flames and plasma bursts find only manaquins, that appear to be sneaky and his cadre, who are hiding nearby, camoflauged as a large canyon rock, who break their disguise and open fire at close range on your men in a devastating surprise attack....

With most of the kill team dead, the survivors fall back behind your lines, as the rest of your men continue fighting...

After a few minutes a new entrance is blown into the chambers, with your Baneblade leading the way, its sponson weapons clearing dozens of Ork infantry, as its followed by several Leman Russ tanks and chimeras full of reinforcements....

It doesnt take long for the overwhelming firepower to wipe out the Orks, although it seems in the Ork dead, that your men can not identify Sneaky's body, and you have no confirmation of his death....

How about we have multiply rolls, qm rolls a dice to set the general difficulty and we roll based on modifiers that we have.

Throw in a system were we decide dice by our choices. Bo3 for good ones, best of 3 out of 5 for really good ones etc.
