Countless light years from the heart of the Galaxy and with it, the seat of Imperial power, the Flagship of the Imperial Navy and the Emperor's personal vessel, the matte-black Super Star Destroyer Tarkin glides through space near the Outer Rim, enclosed in a small skirmish force that it utterly dwarfs. A handful of Star Destroyers including two old Imperial I-Class Star Destroyers accompany it, squadrons of Tie fighters buzzing back and forth on patrol duty.

Here, they are almost on the very edge of the galaxy, nestled deep in the lawless fringes of space on the far side of Hutt Space. Ahead of them is an astrogational nightmare commonly known as "The Maw". The Maw was a cluster of Black Holes, artificial in origin according to some, and entirely impossible to navigate through without your ship being destroyed due to the massive gravitational forces at work within.

Impossible to those who hadn't spent the lives and material to map its course through brute force, that is.

In actuality, the Maw served as a hiding place for the Maw Installation, an above-top secret facility that was one of the birthplaces of the Death Star, and, potentially, the current hiding place for some of the Empire's best and brightest minds . . .

I allow between ten and twenty minutes for voting depending on the importance of the issue and how divided the vote is. If the vote is tied up, I usually allow an extra five minutes for a tie breaker, and if no one votes, I roll for the tie breaker (The will of the Dark Side).

I always try to incorporate (and encourage!) write ins if they don't violate the spirit of voted decisions, though I may edit or tweak them to fit better.

Positioned at the "mouth" of the Maw Cluster, it remained to be seen if the Installation inside was left intact or not. It had been over a decade since they had been last contacted, surely such a long stretch was enough to try anyone's faith. Entering the Maw was also no trivial matter, of course a small scout ship could be sent in, but any entrance into the Maw would require the rest of the fleet to wait outside. Most of your ships, up to and including your Imperial-Class Star Destroyers could barely squeeze their way inside through the narrow openings in the gravitational thresher. Tarkin was another matter. While it might be possible to scrape by, it was just as possible that a miscalculation would result in your entire flagship being dragged into a crushing vice of gravity.

Radio signals, even holocom transmissions were swallowed by the insatiable pull of the black holes that made up the Maw. This means the only way to know for sure what's happening in the Maw is to venture inside. By last count, the Maw garrison centered on four Imperial-Class Star Destroyers, not an insignificant force on its own, plus the scientific breakthroughs that were likely waiting on the inside. Assuming no one else had found it . . .

No, you simply had to know what, if anything, became of the Installation. A scout is dispatched to ply the depths of the Maw and report back.

The wait passes quickly, and through the force, you can sense that the pilot of your scout ship survives the perilous journey, which means the Maw hasn't shifted enough that your charts need to be updated yet. A short while later, the scout ship re-emerges, this time with an escort of old Tie /LN fighters, the first members of the Maw Installation to see the light of the outside galaxy in years.

Word is relayed to you: the Maw Installation is intact and eager to show you their latest accomplishments.

***

Catching up a facility like the Maw Installation with the latest galactic news, including the collapse of the Empire and the rebirth of the Emperor was no easy task, but fortunately it didn't fall to you. By the time you took a shuttle into the cluster, briefing materials had been supplied to all the section chiefs and military commanders.

Once inside and through the deadly labyrinth, you see a quartet of old Imperial I-Class star destroyers taking up parade positions to port of the Installation itself. Framed against the roiling blackness of the Maw behind it, the Installation is a chunky, irregular form built from pressurized compartments and tubes strapped on, burrowed within, and strung around a series of asteroids bonded together with durasteel girders. To its starboard, you see the hollow spheroid of the Death Star Prototype. Like a skeletal copy of the original Death Star battlestation, the prototype was just that: a testbed. It had been built during the first Death Star's construction as a proof of concept model. Constructed here in the Maw in absolutely secrecy, it had addressed feasibility questions raised by the first Death Star's construction.

There was a part of you that very strongly wished the prototype would simply fall into one of these black holes. It served as a reminder of the tremendous failure of the Death Star Project.

There was also something else. A large, boxy shape floating near the Installation. It was black and angular, the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer and possessed what might be oversize landing legs on it and a mouth-like vent or chute on one end. You stare at this creation in wonder and suspect you're seeing the fruits of the Maw Installation's labor.

Upon landing in the Installation's modest docking bay, you are greeted with a fine military display, the base's military personal have turned out in great numbers, lined in laser-straight ranks. At the end of this procession is a much less uniform collection of the facility's scientific personal, a large number of whom were non-humans of varying descriptions.

(1/3)
>>
Heading this group are the two people left in charge of this facility.

Both deliver low bows after only brief hesitation.

"Emperor Palpatine. You Highness, what a tremendous honor, if only we'd had more time to prepare." The person who speaks is Tol Sivron, a Twi'lek, one of Tarkin's pet projects, and manager of this facility.

"No apologies are necessary, Sivron. You've done your duty admirably."

The other head of this facility is another one of Tarkin's pet projects, perhaps one he assumed you were unaware of.

"And Admiral Dala, I must say I am impressed with your level of readiness here. What I've seen so far surpasses even our most optimistic assessments of the facility's ability to operate independently."

If Dala is surprised you know of her, she hides it well. "All things are possible through discipline, your Highness. But I'm honored."

"I must say, I am eager to learn of what you've developed in your prolonged isolation," you say.

Dala and Sivron share a flicker of deep pride.

"Highness, if you'd permit me, I will show you our latest creation," Sivron says with a sharp, toothy smile.

You follow Sivron through the cramped passageways of the Installation, Admiral Dala and Darth Cythera following you closely, them trailing a platoon of Imperial guards.

"It took most of our available resources," Sivron is explaining, "There'd be talks of cannibalizing the Death Star Prototype- quickly quashed I assure you. It was only doable with extensive recycling and careful investment of our technologies. In fact, much of what was developed for the weapon was utilized in its construction, and that's its beauty!"

You and your entourage emerge into a small control room overlooking the boxy shape you'd seen before.

"Your Highness, the latest weapon from the Maw Installation. May I present the Autonomous Planetary Subjugation Platform." Sivron beams as he speaks, "This is the prototype, Silencer-1. Some of our group have taken to calling it a 'World Devastator'," Sivron continues. "A designation I'm sure you'll understand once I outline its capabilities."

Sivron's explanation of the World Devastator leaves you impressed. The "mouth" at the front of the vessel was an intake that would use powerful tractor beams to drag in raw materials, asteroids, ships, or even parts of a planet's crust, all feeding automated foundries within the flying death machine, pre-programmed to produce autonomous weapons of war. Droid Tie Fighters, tanks, and hover craft. Each with a fairly limited lifespan without regular maintenance, but a self-produced army. A single Devastator could wreak havoc on a planet's surface, a fleet of them might be able to strip it bare, leaving behind automated garrisons to defend the world.

The craft's vulnerability also was not in question, while slow, they are heavily shielded, and more importantly, utilize the lattice quantum lattice armor developed in the Maw, virtually indestructible by conventional means.

"Wonderful," you say, wishing you'd had an armada of these World Devastators for your punishment of Dac.

"Silencer-1 is ready for immediate deployment," Sivron continues, "And we of course have the blueprints to build more as needed."

"Highness, a question." Dala says, "Given that our facility is now well behind enemy lines and quite isolated from the Empire's territory, what will you do with us?"

"You are needed Admiral. All of you," you say. "I want all research data to be downloaded to Tarkin's databanks, all portable prototypes gathered, the garrison and science personnel evacuated. We'll be leaving this place."

"Yes, Highness," Sivron hisses with a bow.

"I'll alert my fleet commanders," Dala says. "I suspect they'll be eager to visit some vengeance on the Rebels." She scows, "For Grand Moff Tarkin."

You smile back, "Yes, I suspect they will. I'm also curious," you say, eyeing Sivron, "If Bevel Lemelisk is among your number."

Sivron gives Dala an uneasy glance, "Ah, No, your Highness. I'm afraid not. He hasn't been back here since . . . "

"Since he finished designing the Second Death Star," Dala finishes.

"Erm," Sivron says, "What about the Death Star Prototype? It's too big to be safely taken out and-"

"It should be scuttled," Dala replies, "No sense letting it fall into enemy hands."

"I would like it consumed," you reply, "as a test of this new weapon. Can this technological terror you've constructed produce warships?"

"Yes," Sivron says, "to a degree. We've programmed it to make Carrack-cruisers and Strike-Class cruisers. Automated types of course."

"Splendid," you reply, knowing full well the effectiveness of droid warships, but still, more was better than none.

"See to it," Dala says to Sivron, an edge in her voice.

She turns away from the Twi'lek at once and follows you from the small control room as you head for your shuttle, setting into motion a sudden chaos in these people's lives that had been full of dullness for the past decade. Now it was time you revisited their terrific war machines on the galaxy at large.

***

Shortly before you are to leave the maw, you see Silencer-1 turned on the Prototype Death Star and watch in wonderment and awe as the massive, unfinished battle station is consumed bit by bit, its huge frame violently torn apart and its pieces dragged into the Devastator's ravenous molecular furnaces.

Within hours, flocks of Tie /d fighters are produced and soon joined by a small handful of automated escort ships, of much lower quality and efficiency than your mainstay, human-crewed vessels, but they will serve their purpose. If Sivron is to be believed, these forces have limited endurance before requiring human maintenance, but they should serve to get you back to Imperial Center.
>>
All useful material evacuated from the Maw, the remains locked down or booby-trapped, your fleet now larger than when it set out, prepares to continue its great journey. The next leg will take you out of what was once Imperial Space and into Hutt Space, a strange, autonomous region that is ruled by the great Hutt cartels. The Hutts had always had an understanding with the Empire of old, they minded their own affairs and you minded yours, now, the balance of power was less clear.

Taking what could easily be the vanguard of an invasion fleet through Hutt Space, no matter how potentially weakened with the death of Jabba could be misconstrued as a hostile act. Of course, intelligence reports suggested the Rebels did not respect Hutt territory any more than you were prepared to, but something may be said for maintaining good relations with them. Although, by the same token, the Galactic Emperor negotiating with non-human crime lords was an all-time low.

You are repulsed at the idea of talking directly with those things and so delegate the task to a lower ranking Dark Sider, wishing you had Mas Ameda with you to handle this sort of thing, you had enough of politics from your time in the senate. Now you didn't bargain, you dictated.

Your message was relayed to the Hutt ruling council. It was quite simple in form. We are passing through your territory. We are not on a mission of aggression. Do not interfere.

This is why is catches you so much off guard when you receive a notification that your force will be escorted into Hutt Territory as a courtesy. You're quite confident that anything the Hutts can assemble will pale in comparison to even this paltry force, so allow it so they may soothe their egos.

You're hardly surprised when a trio of bulky, aging, Hutt cruisers meet your force and begin to escort you in toward the world of Ulmatra, a major hypserspace junction and trade world, just inside the Hutt border. What is surprising however, is the arrival of one of your adepts shortly after receiving your escort.

"What is it?"

"Master," the adept is troubled, "I apologize for the intrusion, but the Hutts are insistent. They would like to speak with you. Directly. They claim to have a business proposal for you."

You're half tempted to banish this lowly adept from your sight with a burst of scorching electricity from your hands, but instead, decide to hear out the Hutts, your interest piqued.

Within moments a holo channel is prepared and you find yourself speaking with . . . a human.

(1/2)
>>
"Greetings illustrious one," the human says, giving a low bow. "I speak to you on behalf of my master, Gorga the Hutt. Lord Gorga is well aware of your Highness's preference for dealing with his own species and so has presented me to serve as intermediary."

You nod, Gorga wasn't wrong, but the situation was highly unusual. "What is it you want, I don't have time to spend on petty business schemes."

The man smiles politely, "No scheme, your Highness. What Gorga proposes is a trade, material for information."

"What material," you say, "for what information?"

"Lord Gorga has knowledge, of a Rebel base hidden within Hutt Space. A base the Rebels think even the mighty Hutts are unaware of. A base very near here. A base that Gorga offers you the opportunity to destroy with impunity."

"And what bargain does Gorga request in exchange?" you ask, tiring of this affair.

The human smiles again, "His excellency sees that you have in your possession four obsolete warships. These ships would make wonderful additions to his own space fleet. If you were to turn those ships over, we can have a deal."

Four Imperial I class warships, Dala's current command, in exchange for the location of a hidden rebel base. Ten years ago, this decision would have been a very easy one for you, but now, warships were increasingly scarce in your Empire.

>Granted. Four Imperial I's for information about the Rebels. The ships are yours AFTER you show us the base

You smile humorlessly, "The offer is a kind one," you say, "But I have my own battles to fight. Despite that, I think you will tell me where the Rebel base is." You reach out to this simple mind through the force and take hold.

The man stiffens up. "I .. . What?"

"You will tell me where the Rebel Base is."

"I . . . I don't know that."

You sigh, sensing he tells the truth, and release him. Gorga was being tight-lipped with this information it seemed. "I don't see why a small Rebel outpost would be worth the price you're asking. What's so important about this base?"

Gorga's representative, still a bit disoriented, fights to regain his composure. "Ah, well yes. The base seems to be a major one for the Alliance. Lord Gorga thinks the Rebels plan to use it as a hidden staging position for future strikes. Destruction of this base would hinder those plans."

You mull over the idea in your mind. Such a blow would hurt the Rebels. If Gorga's information was accurate.

Your current forces, with the addition of the Tionese ships, and Dala's fleet, not to mention the World Devastator, was a bit unwieldy for any sort of clandestine work that Gorga had in mind.

"Later, this force is not suited for the task. After I return to Imperial Center, I will have an appropriate task force rallied and sent to your aid. We can make the deal at that time."

The representative smiles, "Splendid! His Illustriousness will be pleased. We will escort you to the other side of Hutt Space, at which point we will release you. This is merely to satisfy the honor of the other Hutt Clans. Some of whom feel your passage is an invasion of their sovereignty."

"We will soon be on our way," you say half-heartedly.

"And soon returning, I hope."

"Once it's prudent," you reply.

"We look forward to it, your Highness."

The transmission ends.

***

The rest of the trip though Hutt Space proceeds without incident, you suspect that your arrival has become common knowledge as every planet and intersection you jump to seems to have been cleared out ahead of time. Maybe the Hutts were more coordinated than you'd initially thought.

In any case, you reach the other end of Hutt Space in a few short days, Gorga's escort vessels leaving you as suddenly as they'd arrived.

With Hutt Space behind you, you were once again in hostile territory, but Intelligence estimates said the Rebel's fleets were too badly bloodied to pose a serious threat to you at this point, but you never the less exercise caution as you jump closer and closer to the Core.

Soon enough, you'll be jumping to Zeltros, one of the last stops before Commenor, the nearest border of your territory. It's at this point you face a niggling idea you had previously. Not far away is the world of Onderon, a nexus of the Dark Side with a history steeped in Sith heritage. You'd considered visiting it on your way back since it stands only a short way off your journey and is apparently in neutral territory. Onderon would be there after you've returned to your Empire. You've been away long enough that you're worried Isard's grip on power might have begun to slip, she never had much a handle on politics or leadership. You could always outfit an expedition to Onderon afterward. Maybe even outright claim it. A handful of Star Destroyers ought to have the firepower needed to do such a thing.

You considered sending Darth Cythera but . . . you shake your head. She is a Sith, and you have forged her into a weapon but not what you were hoping for. She's a dagger in the back of your enemies. She dispatched Sedriss in short fashion, but that was Sedriss, and Sedriss was no Jedi, and certainly no Sith. It again made you long for Vader. To have wielded such power once and lost it was a tragedy. You even missed that boisterous fool Dooku. There was always the possibility of replacing her. Although you'd already dumped so much time and effort into her . . .

No matter, a problem for another day. The duties of Imperial Center lay ahead. Your Empire, and your chance at restoring the rightful order of things was before you. Once you returned to the throne, you could begin plotting your next phase of action, now knowing where the loyalties of a portion of the Hutts, and the Tionese cluster lay.

And I'm out of time.

Thanks so much for turning out guys, means a lot to me. So due to scheduling, this is actually going to be the only Dark Empire game this week, since I'm going out of town this weekend and won't reliable internet access/time to write.

After that, is my 1 week break. You guys are running me ragged, so this break will hopefully recharge my mind. When I started this shit I had no idea it would go where it has so . . . Kudos to you . . . I guess?

Anyway, that means the next game will be . . . Like 2 weeks from now :\

Anyway, I'll be updating you guys on Twitter when it's go time again.

https://twitter.com/DarkEmpireQuest

Probably safe to assume everyone has it by this point, but what the fuck ever.

Truth be told, I've had a fucked week and this session really helped turn that around, so thanks!

Fun question time:

What do you hate about Dark Empire/What Sucks/What should change?

I want to improve, I've got this fear that the game is slumping somehow. I know part of that is mental fatigue on my part which I am working on (that 1 week off is gonna help sooo much) but I also want to make sure I don't have a blind spot for bad things. Lay it on me, won't hurt my feelings.

If you don't want to air it for everyone, fire me a message on Twitter or fire me an email at TimeKillerQM which is a gmail.

Thanks for playing guys!

Secret bonus question:
Okay, you smarmy fucks hate the new Star Wars shit. That's cool. But tell me about how you feel about Rogue One.
>>
>>1980761
thanks for the run TK.

I kinda want to go back to making those big 'choices' you know? but thats just me. I also wish we could expand our Dark sides or set up production of the korrban cursiers and/or Death or dark troopers.

I loved watching the Rebel fleet get fucking crushed, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr-H8Pffa0A is pretty good. However I still hate the rebellion winning.
>>

>There was always the possibility of replacing her.
Maybe we should start probing the Jedi Order? That's how we replaced Maul. Even though Dooku served a different purpose.
Now I have an idea...

Thanks for running TK.

If Cytheria is such a failure, we need to expend more effort in training her, or dispose of her.
>>
>>1980761
>What do you hate about Dark Empire/What Sucks/What should change?
Nothing really, besides it being a little slow. But that's kind of unavoidable.

>But tell me about how you feel about Rogue One.
Terrible Star Wars movie, really bad movie, decent war movie. Vader was good in it at least, but he's good even in NuStar Wars. Not really the comics though.

>big 'choices'
YOu mean the grand scale palpy stuff?

That'll happen again. I played around a bit with more narrative and i think it bogged things down to be honest. I'll be getting into more grand strategy, and probably some time jumps.

>Spoiler
The fleet battle was the highlight of that film. Very well done for the most part. I'll withhold the rest of my judgement.

>>1980780
>expand our Dark sides or set up production of the korrban cursiers and/or Death or dark troopers
Truth be told, I am limiting a lot of that for balancing purposes. But when I start "taking a step back" for large scale decisions, things like this will become more relevant.

I think I've said it before but, Star Wars is an underdog story, we're playing as sort of Underdogs but not really? Riding the line is hard.

There are plenty of candidates, just need to track them down and/or decide how you want to deal with the "Rule of Two" situation.

sadly though you are incredibly fucking powerful, as is Luke. Most other force users (like 99%) pale in comparison.

Dooku was a Jedi Master, Vader was the strongest Jedi who ever lived. It's hard to live up to that, and there are no Masters to recruit from anymore, not really. That means you're relying on raw, natural talent, which is rare.

I did mean the grand scale Palpy stuff, But I'm just weird like that. I really am glad how things are working out and don't stress yourself out and take your time mate.

Space battle was great, Besides for the tie in. Also, I bully you out of love. at the end of the day we're all fucking nerds lol.

>Most other force users (like 99%) pale in comparison.
Kyp Durron has an absolute metric fuckton of potential, he was one of the Jedi I was thinking about.

But perhaps, if we influence a more stable Jedi, we could create something similar to the Separatist Conflict in the New Republic. It's a long shot, but maybe we can plan something out.

>What do you hate about Dark Empire/What Sucks/What should change?

I think you're doing fine TK.

If you feel like its been slumping there is always the chance to add mortal peril. Get someone to betray us, have a massive shake-up in Rebel command (considering we just blew up Dac we may have just become the primary invasion target for the Rebellion), get us out of our comfort zone, threaten Coruscant, or if you feel really evil add something to the Galaxy that isn't in any previous or new Star Wars lore. Best thing you can do is throw a sucker punch and make players go
"WTF is that? That isn't in what I've read!?" It's your universe throw whatever you want in there.

>or if you feel really evil add something to the Galaxy that isn't in any previous or new Star Wars lore
That doesn't sound like a good idea. If you want something like that just bring the Vong in 15 years early.

Plan away! This is an ideal time for that shit. If you guys come up with a plan that you like, I will happily include it in the game.

That's a relief! I'm doing my best.

Does anyone else want to come up with an evil plan? I'm thinking we can kill 2-4 birds with one stone.

>Send Cythera on a mission to eliminate Mon Mothma, and possibly other Rebel civilian leaders
>Give her orders that she can't be captured no matter what, but this is an incredibly high risk mission anyway, so we may not have to leak anything
>With Mon Mothma gone, Leia, a Jedi, will likely become the leader of the New Republic
>While this is going on, we have darksiders (maybe even Cythera herself) target the people around/closest to Akbar, inflaming any feelings of resentment he has towards the Jedi
>When the internal climate of the New Republic is at a boiling point, we turn one of Luke's Jedi, preferably a prominent one, and have them either join us, or cause a crisis in the New Republic itself
I have some other ideas, but that was the longest one.
>Perhaps instead we try to foster a dove lobby in the New Republic and make the Jedi look like warmongers, temporarily ceasing hostilities with them and getting Thrawn to do the same, temporarily.

Well actually I did write . . . never mind

Problem with things like that is they usually take place over a broad time scale. For instance, you don't have daily crisis/major campaigns back to back to back, to they needto get interspaced with time.

Since we follow a lot of day-to-day detail in Alana's career, it means that there are long gaps between Palpy making sweeping proclamations.

Also, have you read the new Star Wars fleet quest?

No way. You gotta earn that shit. So far you guys have come close a few times to going that route but common sense prevailed. Keep on trying I guess!

I've glanced at it.
