Hey guys, let me know when you're around,

So, we cuddle with Miel for a bit after cleaning the both of us and then check on the journal for Asmund's blueprints and get to work on it, right?

And yes. Those things. Also I think we're supposed to make sure that Yin's sister takes the civil service exam, and Zoe becomes our personal secretary.

Hi guys

***

After cleaning both of us and cuddling with Miel for a bit, we check the linked journal to find that Asmund finally got a graphology machine and scanned the schematics.

Okaba confirms that the schematics seem to be similar to the Alquian magic cannons', so he's sending them to Asmund in turn.

"Alright, let's get going." - we smooch Miel and help her up as we get up ourselves

A short while later, we're back in Okaba's palace, and are lead to his library again.

Eh, Aura is there to greet us this time. She was busy last time we came by... anyway, we meet our friend again, and find him already busy looking at the schematics for the Sbastian mana cannon side by side with its Alquian counterpart, and the lightning ballistae as well.

"We're back." - we greet him
"Oh, welcome back." - he points at some areas of the blueprints here and there in each machine - "Some of the systems are the same, or extremely similar. Do you think its a case of form following function, and thus arriving at similar answers to the same problem, or were all three machines derived from the same source some point in the past?..."

Aura stops him by taking his hand and standing on tiptoes to kiss his cheek.

"Calm down, my kind. Don't try to explain everything at one." - she says as she smiles
"Yes, thank you." - he squeezes her hand and then moves back to the schematic for our lightning ballistae

"It looks like your family's ballistae was meant to handle a larger amount of power." - he explains - "These rune circuits are currently diminishing the overall power of its own discharges, but that would only make sense if they were meant to control and regulate a much larger blast."

>So, we should change that part
>So, we should look for a larger power source
>Other

(picture unrelated, I finally assembled my pc with its proper (new) HD and its running windows 10 now, and everything its super shiny and white so i cant see shit. Anyone knows how to change the pop up menus and windows colors to black without using the full high contrast mode? high contrast mode causes a lot of progreams to just not run or run with errors)

As we talk, one of Okaba's assistants records our words on the journal, for Asmund's benefit, and it is not hard to guess that someone reads them to him while he too leans against the schematics to take a good look, in turn replying to our words, having his escribe write down his replies to us.

It is somewhat efficient, in a sense, but since Okaba's assistants are all beautiful succubus, it is a bit grin inducing that Asmund's "voice" comes out through as a sensually feminine one.

Well, not like it really affects the conversation... I think.

"Well, our own modern lightning ballistae are copies from the original ones." - replies Asmund - "So shouldn't Eldric look inside his family keep for a larger power shource somewhere?"

"I found a huge set of archives, but no such thing as that," - we reply
"You said there were crypts with fields containing troops for the defense of the keep, right? Where are those fields drawing power from?" - Okaba contributes while looking at the schematics
"I said I didn't found it, not that there wasn't one..."
"Anyway, the alquians new super ship has its own generator, right? Can't we use that?" - asks Asmund
"It is ridiculously big. I don't think we can just reproduce it on short notice. Plus it may not be enough... I think we need to check the way their magic cannon handles energy, first."

We too head over to the blueprints, and start looking at the power circuits and rune arrangements.

"Lord Okaba, you got anything else out of the runes?"
"Not much, sadly." - he replies
"Oh, I can read most of these." - contributes Asmund - "I can assemble something like a dictionary and send you gentlemen a copy in a couple of days. Or you can come over and pick up some textbooks to learn it by yourselves if you prefer."

>It would be nice to have the textbooks ourselves, though I guess it would take quite a while to properly learn the runes and their meanings like that
>Lets wait for that dictionary. Perhaps we can just have an automata do the translation for us automatically, even.

"Uhm... sounds reasonable. The design of such a construct should be quite simple. Over time and through repeated use of the different runes, I'm sure we'll learn them naturally." - As expected of the golem/automata crafting genius (some would call him slightly obsessed) king. Our friend Okaba sure is reliable over such things.

"Alright, in that case, I need to supervise a new worker's test..."

"Uhm? Yes. I think we got this covered for now. Once we have the translating automata, we'll be able to do a great amount of work, though. I think it will be done almost as soon as Asmund can deliver the reference book, since I'll just need to assign the meanings of each symbols."
"I'll get to it in a few hours. It is quite a large amount of symbols and I want to make sure I am not forgetting anything, so I'll triple check before I send it. My guess is it should be ready the day after tomorrow." - Asmund assures us from his own lab.

Well, with that, we say good bye to both of our friends and head back to meet with Yin. Should we go pick her sister from Yin's village, or is she coming here?

We have never gone to her village, so it may be a time consuming activity.

***

As it turns out, Yin was somewhat horrified at the idea of us wasting two days of our time on doing her a personal favour. Her sister should arrive in the capital by tonight, so she wants to go wait for her in the north city entrance.

By the way, Mantequira is one of the few cities we know of that isn't surrounded by a wall. Well, that just means they really have the countryside under control. No roaming monsters to deal with for hundreds of miles (or a hez in any direction, if you want to see it that way).

Of course, they basically have the continent to themselves as well, so no chance of enemy attack from land. That certainly helps.

Alright, in that case, we should go talk with Zoe and get mom's permission for taking Zoe off school so she can work for us... actually that sounds super hard to do, you know?

Hmm...

It sounds kind of bad, too...

>Its fine, she's getting a government work. That means she can pretty much make a living off it without worries.
>Yeah, she's just 2 years from graduation, so we should probably let her workload as is. She's already helping 1/2 time in the college labs.
>Ah... (other)
>>
>>1985748
>>Ah... (other)
We will reduce her workload in the labs, and have her work part-time as our secretary. And make Stella work part-time as a secretary so she learns skills and discipline aside from being a dumb meathead adventurer.
We can Treestride to the tree that Stella kept for emergencies, right?
>>

>We can Treestride to the tree that Stella kept for emergencies, right?

Sure, but she's already in a military academy, so im not sure how much more discipline you can give her than that, specially considering we're the ones that pamper the fuck out of her.
>>
>>1985825
Her attendance at a military academy has done nothing to provide discipline in her life.
>>
>>1985825
Rather, I should say that she hasn’t really matured, and giving her responsibilities that her beloved older brother expects her to complete will more likely mature her than attendance at a military academy.

We bring Miel back home, and go into the house looking for mom, to find she's out with Athena and Elysia right now.

They've gpne to meet with out friendly tailor, master Tazar, since they're growing and will need new clothes for the coming year. Apparently she trusts Zoe and Portia to go on their own. Or at least she trusts Zoe to take Portia along when she goes.

Well, that means that is Ellie, Alrond, and Wolfric (*) at home right now.

Portia and Zoe are still in college. Either in their classes or in the lab.

We head over to master Tazar's place, and find that mom is still there, talking with him about the new clothes.

"...no, no, the uniforms have to be standard. That's why they're a uniform, though I do agree that the V neck jersey looks cute, it just won't do when winter comes around." - she hasn't noticed us yet
"Well, that's what jackets are for, ye lady! And a stylish muffler would be quite nice as well... oh, its your firstborn. How are you, young master?"

Athena and Elysia turn around and as soon as they notice us, run over to hug us.

Ah, my imoutonium levels are recharged. Let's kiss and pet them a little bit. Yup, so cute.

"Eldric, don't give them candy so shortly before dinner!" - chides mom gently
"Yes. I am sorry."
"Are you shopping as well?"
"No, I wanted to talk with you, but we can do so on the walk back home."

Mom nods and keeps talking with our tailor.

In the end, they decide on three sweaters for each of the girls, all with a different neck. ie turtle, v-cut and round.

It seems the girl's skirts are exactly as regulation intends, though since both Athena and Elysia tend towards the leggy side, the skirts seem slightly on the short side...

"Well, they can wear stockings..." - mom wonders to herself, more concerned with weather resistance than skin exposure.

Well, our little sisters are 8 and 6, so I guess they're still at the age where they're purely cute? We're aware we are bad at telling if our imouto's charms are 'on' or not, though.

>No, no, a inch under the knee, at the least. They're not dancers you know, so I don't want anyone looking at my adorable little sisters in a wrong way. Longer than uniform standard? Is fine, is fine. We can also give them a nice set of some five extra turtle neck sweaters to go with it, you know? And full lenght stockings in black wool. (as little skin exposure as possible)
>Eh... summer up in the mountains can be really harsh, you know? Its fine, its fine, they can just wear thicker stockings during winter. Thigh high? Sure, why not? What? The gap? The golden ratio? Who cares, they're cute little sisters, you know?

Yup, in our mind, there's the image of our super cute imoutos running with bare feet over a flower field in the mountains, their cute laughter echoing on as they play without worries.

Yup, they're super cute, so its okay.

Our mother waves her hands in front of us dispelling our hallucination as if she knew what it was about.

"You do know they're growing into beauties, right?" - she asks
"Yes! My little sisters are the prettiest!"
"...you... poor Zoe. Not so much Stella, though. I think that girl is about as clueless as they come about these things. I'm actually thinking your father may seriously have to take her in just so she doesnt gets tricked by some shady person..."
"What? A shady person, where!?"

That was a big sigh, mom.

I wponder what is she worried about.

Anyway, as soon as we are done buying clothes for Athena and Elysia, we start heading home together. We're carrying Elysia, while Athena is looking at her with envious eyes.

I'm sorry but it can't be helped, because big brother needs to talk to mom, so he needs to have vision to at least one side, you know? I can't carry both of you right now.

"So, what did you need to talk about?" - mom is holding Athena's hand as she walks next to us,

"Ah... I want to hire Stella and Zoe as administrators to my new Alquian state. Also, I want them to work in management for me."
"...They're both just 2 years away from graduation, you know?"

Mom seems to be thinking about it...

"Your sister's schefule is probably slightly different, you know? They don't have the exact same daylight hours in Eopolis than we do here."
"I imagine, but they don't need to clock in at the same time."
"Also, they don't really need the money. They do plenty well as adventurers when they feel like it."
"Is not about the money, but they will gain real working experience."

She seems to be thinking about it.

"You do know Stella has been running a underground rescue circuit for the slaves in bastion together with your cousin Alard for a few weeks now?"
"I... didn't know that."

I guess she keeps in touch with mom... well I guess its obvious.

Eh, I feel like we should have known that. I'm happy she's doing something good and important, but big brother feels he should have been included, you know?

"If you want to help, maybe you should try a diplomatic route? Its not as if an extra sword will help."

Mom explains to use that beastkin slavery in Bastion is a ingrained part of their culture. They have long ago outgrown any economic need for it, yet they keep it because it is traditional. t will take more than vioilence or money to change that.

By the time we get home, mom smooches our little sisters and sends them to play in the garden.

"They're not evil people. I doubt there's anyone who's actively trying to be, but their customs are cruel." - she says

I wonder if we should go as a regular, anonymous person, pretending to be a merchant, or an adventurer.

If we want to help the slaves run away, purchasing them may be the easiest way. But as adventurers, it would be easier to explain werapons and the like, as well as a moderately sized group.

Eldric, I assume is enough to know that we’re from Eopolis (something we’d find hard to disguise). So have a fake surname in case we get asked for a full name.
