You invited a slightly drunk Ms. Uccelli to pass the night at your apartment for her safety, the curfew was going to start any minute now and the state she is in was worrying you for her wellbeing. After refusing for a bit you convince her to stay. As you two were chitchatting, a fuming Amelia woke up and she’s lashing out on Uccelli for seemingly no reason!

“…I don’t want her here! She’s a coward and she hasn’t even apologized!” Your furious sister says to you while dissing a confused and troubled Uccelli.
“Amelia, go back to sleep.” You shush your sister away, waving a hand. You are not only annoyed by her defiant attitude but are completely and utterly confused by it.
“N-No! I’m serious here! I can’t believe you let her here after what she did to you!”
“Excuse me, Amelia. Could you be more specific?” Uccelli asks. She doesn’t understand one bit of what is happening. That and the drink is still affecting her.

“Have you two completely forgotten what happened a few days ago? Just look at him! Look at what you did to him!” Amelia points to your almost healed wounds. If this conversation happened a few days prior this probably would have had more of an effect. “Explain how something like that could happen to him? The so-called bully didn’t have a spirit thing! You know what? I don’t need to hear it. It’s impossible for you have any worthy excuse! Today Johnny and I fought a bigger threat than some brain-dead delinquent together, and both of us are completely fine! I-I really thought you were too scared to do anything, like – I thought I would understand you! When you’re too afraid of doing something, your hands get sweaty, you don’t think right and you freeze. But this isn’t a school presentation or anything like that; Johnny’s life was in danger! …A-and I know I’m not super strong so I thought I would hesitate like you did, but knowing my brother was in danger… That I could lose him… That I couldn’t see him again made all these doubts leave my mind. So you either don’t care about him at all, or you’re worthless as an ally to us…! Either way, you should leave! You’re useless!” Amelia throws her feelings out on Uccelli, as if the words themselves could hit her hard enough to snap her out of it.
“I-I…” Uccelli looks lost. Amelia’s words have been like a rain of daggers going directly through already Uccelli’s fragile heart.
“W-what’s that smell?” Amelia finally realizes that Uccelli reeks of booze. “Don’t tell me you’re drunk…?! What’s up with you? How do you even show your face here in this state? I thought you came to finally visit Johnny. But you can’t even do that right!” Amelia is unhinged now - her voice is coming out slightly ragged from her ranting but the fire is still going.

“Johnny, I know this isn’t a good time right now.” Philonune is whispering to you. “But I have a bad feeling about this... It's just like before, it feels like something I can't see about to snap. You need to do something.”

What do you do?

>Quick! Calm down Amelia. She needs to pull herself together.
>Back up Uccelli! It was your fault after all, and you're not dead.
>Tell them to resolve this tomorrow. No one is in a good state of mind right now.

I use the average (the mean) of the 3 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 3 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 45 is a success in a normal roll. Above 65 is a success in a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.
Please Roll as you pick your prompt. If you are too cowardly to roll: Don’t worry, you can vote regardless.

You walk closer to your petite little sister; you can see her fuming in her own anger.

“Amelia, calm down.” You poke her forehead dismissively. This is the most ridiculous scene she has made. “If you want to kick anyone out, it should be me. I let my pride take control and I got a beating for it. I told Uccelli to hide, she had no way of knowing the kind of danger I was in. I have no idea what’s gotten into you, this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen from you. I made a mistake before and I learned from it, that’s why we both came out okay today. I don’t think the situation would have been any different if you were there instead of Uccelli.”
“You poke me too hard!” She says this in her whiny little sister voice that you know too well, and holds her forehead.
“I wouldn’t have done it if you didn’t act like an idiot. Now get back to sleep. We'll need it.”
“B-but—” Your sister is still really mad. She wants a completely different outcome.
“No, Johnny she’s right I need to apolo—“ A drunk depressed Uccelli wants to admit her guilt but…
“You need to go to bed too.” You interrupt an apologetic Uccelli. You can't have her be depressed again. “If you two have anything to say to each other, wait for morning. Because you’re drunk and you’re cranky, and more importantly nothing good will come out of this now. So ladies…”
“N-no! We need to resol—“
“I’m going to tell your dad if you don’t stop reacting over nothing.” You interrupt your sister once again, trying to sound as much done-with-this-shit as you can. You put your big brother act into it. “Seriously, you've never done something like this before. Is it the bear making you do this?”
“…We’ll talk in the morning.” Amelia says, gritting her teeth, and goes back to her room.
“C’mon, you too, get moving.” You said to Uccelli. It feels great to boss around a teacher, especially in your own house.
“…I’m sorry.” Uccelli stands up and goes to your room, ashamed of herself; you give her the box she brought to change her clothes with. You take a blanket and a pillow and start to doze off in your couch.

In the middle of the night you suddenly wake up. Maybe it’s because you’re not used to sleeping on the couch or because you’re worried about the two girls that are sleeping in the other rooms. Either way, now you have an urge to peek on one of them… Maybe there is something going on you're somewhat expecting - entity business.

You decided to peek on Amelia based on what happened to Yukika, these entities are getting out of control and the fact they are using human beings as their vessels to do whatever they want is starting to grind your gears.

You peek inside your father’s ex room and see Amelia sleeping and drooling like the dummy she pretends not to really be. As you expected, flame shenanigans are happening to her, the flame that’s usually on her foot is now on her eyes. They must be communicating, that Saraswati has been nothing but trouble…

“So Philo, why have you never done that?” It suddenly spiked your curiosity, seeing it happen.
“Why should I? I can speak to you directly whenever I want.” You really have to wonder what are the real benefits of doing this type of conversation, instead of just talking like Philo mentioned. Must be due to that "space between worlds" thing.
You have no idea what strange bear propaganda Saraswati is brainwashing your sister with, but maybe it’s time to interfere with them…

>Wake Amelia up and ask what is going on. You don’t want her to get ‘Yukika’ed’, do you?
>Let her sleep. You’re jumping into conclusions, even though Saraswati is annoying and somewhat controlling – she never tried to brainwash your sister before.

What happened when two flames touched…? You don’t remember. Well, who cares? Time to follow your instincts, try something stupid, and DO YOUR BEST! You grab Philonune's flame.

“I have an idea.” You exclaim with confidence.
“I’m all ears.” The only instance of Philonune not liking one of your plans was very recently. You hope to keep a good track from now with this one, so he keeps trusting you.
“I’ll put you on Ame—“ W-wait! You remembered what happens when two flames collide! People start to puke and feel absolutely terrible, and it probably kills them in a fucked up way too. You almost made a mistake, good thing you got to your senses rather quickly. “Nevermind…”
“What happened?” Philonune looks rather confused.
“I-it’s no big deal. Why do something super intricate like what I was thinking, when we can just wake her up?”
“I see, that makes sense.” Philonune agrees.

You move Amelia’s shoulder hoping to wake her up; she slowly opens her eyes and cleans the spittle near her mouth.

“J-Johnny…? What’s going on…? Am I late to school?” Amelia ask as she yawns in a cute manner.

What do you ask?

>”What’s the deal with you and Saraswati? I know you two were talking just now.” Get directly to the point, no sugarcoating.
>”Tell me what bear propaganda she’s telling you, now.” Be aggressive, she needs to know you’re serious from the get-go.

"What’s the deal with you and Saraswati? I know you two were talking just now.” Get directly to the point, no sugarcoating.
“Ahh…? How did you know?” Amelia is somewhat surprised. “Oh, I forgot you can see flames somehow. Sorry I’m sleepy...” She scratches the back of her head.
“What were you two talking about?” You ask.
“Some days Saraswati likes to talk about what happened and what I can improve on. It’s a bit tiring but it’s not bad. Is that all?” Amelia wants to go back to sleep.
“I was curious because you flip out on Uccelli out of nowhere; I was deadly serious when I mentioned you never acted like this before.” She was basically an NPC before! She couldn’t keep a conversation going for long, now she can do angry rants…? And more importantly, she never got this mad before in her life.
“It wasn’t out of nowhere; those were the things I’m feeling…” She sounds dishonest to you like she’s trying to hide something poorly.
“Amelia, be honest with me.”
“W-why are you spinning this on me? I should be the one saying that to you.” Amelia gets somewhat mad. Her crankiness from before is still intact, and you waking her up in the middle of the night is not helping..
“I know you, sis. You’re not like this, and you’re not changing for the better if you keep this up.”
“So I should just keep quiet and take it? I’m tired of this! I deserve better!” It's like someone else is talking instead of her. But her voice isn't distorted like Yukika's was before.
“But I do NOT want you acting like that every time I get hurt, you’re a huge detriment to the team if you are gonna fly off the handle anytime I get a bit injured.” You say truthfully. She is your little sister.
Amelia looks down.“...S-sorry. Everything is so difficult now… Every time I do something, someone else tells me I did the wrong thing, and I don’t know how to keep going anymore. You, dad, Saraswati… I want everyone to feel happy, but I keep screwing it up. ”Amelia feels overwhelmed with everything; she’s on the verge of tears again.

>”Don’t cry on me again, lady. You need to grow up and be tough.” Stop with the sentimentality, that was the wrong approach. Wasn't it?
>”That’s going to keep happening if you try to please everyone. You need to make your own decisions.” Be direct. Your sister has let everyone else dictate her life for far too long now. She needs to have control back.
>”Amelia, you need to take it easy. But I want to know now if that rant was the bear’s idea.” She’s feeling overwhelmed because of what Saraswati wants. If you had a chat with the bear, maybe your sister’s anger will disappear.

“Amelia, that’s going to keep happening if you try to please everyone. You need to make your own decisions.” You hug Amelia once again! Your sister has let everyone else dictate her life for far too long now. She needs to have control back.
“Y-yes…!” She nods furiously as a single tear falls down her cheek. What for a minute was going to be a tear of sadness, turned into one of fierce determination! Okay, that’s a bit cheesy, but you get the point.
“Also remember the bear is your partner, not your master, remember whose mind and body this is.” You need to clarify this; Saraswati is probably feeding bad ideas into Amelia without considering what’s good for her and what is not.
“B-but what if she starts hating me?”
“She’s not going to hate you. She’s obnoxious, not evil.” You shrug.
“Yes…!” She nods again. “Now I have to apologize to Miss Uccelli in the morning.”
“What for…?” You know why, but you want to know the reasoning behind her decision.
“I was not only very rude; I knew I was being disrespectful with her. Saraswati wanted to trim the fat of the team if you know what I mean.” What? Is the bear jealous of Uccelli’s big ra— “She thinks Ms. Uccelli is taking advantage of us and offers nothing to the team. B-but I don’t think that of her at all, she has being nothing short of great to me. I’m sorry…”
“Apologize to her, not me. I’m sure she will understand. Now it’s almost 3 am, I should go back to sleep.”
“Night Johnny…” Amelia smiles. As soon as she goes back to her bed, the flame goes back to her eyes.

“Do you think she’ll be fine? I know from experience how hard breaking the chains of your master can be...” Philonune asks, his voice oddly sympathetic. Usually it's him getting really into a fight, or questioning human society, or congratulating you.
“Nothing else we can do for now. Those two need to settle this on their own.”
“Right. I know deep down Saraswati cares for Amelia.”
“What makes you say that? You barely know her.”
“For an entity to change appearance so much must mean they have a strong bond with each other.”
“Like you and me, right?"
Philonune chuckles deeply. You can feel something like pride or amusement coming off of him. "You could say that..."

You and Philonune go back to the sofa, you’re feeling way too tired to bother doing anything else but sleep.

It’s a beautiful Friday morning! You feel somewhat tired, but that's due to lack of sleep. But otherwise your body feels like normal, your wounds are still there but they don’t ache as much. Before everyone gets going, you need to make an important decision…

>Go to school! You’re tired of sleeping late and being in this apartment…! Well that’s not true because you love this apartment, but anyway! You need to get out there and learn!

You decided break time is over! Time to go back to school once again to study… This doesn’t sound appealing at all, but you still need some semblance of normalcy in your slightly boring teenage life! Ms. Uccelli was already up when you peek inside your room, she seems very grateful for everything you did for her. You said it was the least you can do. You can tell she’s in a sad mood after what Amelia told her, though she says she’ll prepare breakfast. Uccelli has a mild headache… Maybe it’s a hangover.
Minutes later: you, Amelia and Uccelli are eating together. It’s a tense atmosphere that shouldn’t be there. Amelia seems afflicted but hasn’t gathered the strength to apologize yet, and you don’t want to push her to do it – It’s time for Amelia to do the right thing for herself, not for anyone else.

“Mi-miss Uccelli?” Amelia's voice barely escapes her mouth.
“What is it, Amelia…?” Uccelli sounds depressed. Must be the hangover and the aftermath of last night.
“I want to apologize.” Amelia finally looks at her straight in the eyes.
“A-ah!?” Uccelli is completely surprised at what just happened. She really thought it was her fault what happened to you. “What? No! I need to apologize, and to you again Ando! I was the one who let you t—“
“No! Stop! It’s not true! I just lashed at you for no good reason, and I knew it wasn’t a good reason.” Amelia says to your teacher.
“Ah?” Uccelli is even more confused but somewhat relieved. “Did you say something to her?” Uccelli turns to you, eyes narrowing. She thinks you extorted your sister for some reason.
“What makes you think that?” You ask her back, raising an eyebrow.
“I… You’re right. I don’t know why I believed that.” She really doesn’t believe in changes of heart. I mean it was overnight so she can have all the doubts she wants, but you’re not completely responsible for this one.
“Johnny has nothing to do with this! This is what I really think! I want to amend things, I want to—” Amelia gets interrupted.
“I don’t want anyone to be late. What if we both leave this behind? We all made mistakes, let’s promise not to make them again, okay?” A relieved Uccelli replies.
“Y-yes!” Amelia does her trademark quick nods.
“Thank god you two made peace with each other. I was getting tired of hearing 'I'm sorry' so many times in one day.” You say in a deadpan voice. Great, now you finally can relax.
“We will talk about it later to make everything clear anyway. Is that good for you?” Uccelli says as she checks her phone time.
“Yes! I should be going! I’ll see you two later!” Amelia takes her stuff with her and leaves quickly to the station. You’re left with Uccelli.

“Are you okay? Nothing bad happened last night, right?” Maybe her entity is influencing her too and you aren’t aware of it.
“I can make a list of things that went wrong last night, but I don’t think that's what you really want to hear.” She reminisces of all her actions from yesterday with guilt and shame on her face.
“You don’t need to go into specifics if you don’t want to, but I would like to know if your entity is influencing you in one way or another.” You’re more direct with your question. Better she knows your thoughts.
“Aside from judging most of my decisions, he’s not doing much.” Uccelli stares at her flame. “Ando, I should be going.” She opens the door of your apartment. You follow her wordlessly.
“I’m going to school too. Anyway, what do you mean? Is he trying to be mean on purpose?”
“That explains your uniform… Let’s go, I don’t want to you be late too. And it’s not something like I wouldn’t think myself. You know, like how terrible of a decision it was for me to drink on a weekday…” She goes back to flashback mode while you two leave the apartment to the station.

“That’s unhealthy even if you think it’s true.”
“It’s something I have to deal with if I want to help you two in this whole mess. Besides I can shut him off if I want.” You wonder how. It’s fascinating to you the way other flames users operate. You think your relationship with Philonune is the healthiest so far. Maybe it’s because you didn’t pick the first option you had. Or maybe you're too similar to each other, unlike most flame users. “I should be the one worried about my student, not the other way around.”
“I thought we went over that, we’re friends.”
“Well my 'dear friend' Ando, tell me: how does you entity treat you?” She says it with a pinch of sarcasm.

Somehow you two ended up walking together to the station. Seems she doesn’t mind walking with you in plain sight of everyone… at least so far. Anyway, you need to respond.

“Don’t worry, we won’t. We will emerge victorious.” Philonune gives you a confident laugh.
“That’s the spirit.” You smirk.

After asking your partner what he thinks, you came up with the appropriate answer.

“He’s surprisingly good. He’s… a lot like myself. Imagine having someone exactly like you except from a different world. We get along about as anyone can with their own self.” You move your left hand to the floating flame, and partially summon Philonune out in the open. You then raise your right hand and make a fist, silently looking at Philonune hoping he gets it. He floats up by you silently for a bit as if thinking, then etherally fist bumps you, his smirk eerily matching yours down to the eyes and mouth movement. As you desummon him and he dissolves back into his flame form, Uccelli watches all this silently with wide eyes. Looks like no one else around noticed anything either, thankfully.

"Wow. I was ready to make a snarky comment – but the sincerity you talk with is really astounding. Not to mention...that.” She seems genuinely happy for the bond you have created with your partner. “Oh dear Ando, has this ill world poisoned my mind too? I cannot believe I am becoming such a vile maiden!” She says it like some Shakespearen actor.
“Ha-ha, what’s up with that?” You really didn't expect her to pull a theatrical tone like that. She actually sounded like a stage actor for a second there.
“That’s how I cope with my misfortune!” She smiles as you finally get to the station. “Don't take it seriously though, I’m exaggerating! Okay, Ando - time to separate. I’ll go to a different car than yours, remember I don’t want anyone to get any funny ideas. I already have it bad enough at school as it is.” Uccelli says as she tries to mask her sadness.

>”Who cares? Let’s go together, just this once at least.” I mean it’s true, what’s the problem?

“…I’ll see you at school.” You give her a parting pat and shoot her a smile. She didn’t expect it but appreciates it anyway and smiles back.
“I’ll see you soon.” Uccelli replies.

You skedaddle out of there to another car. While on the train you send her a bunch of emojis! The cryptic messages confuse her but she ultimately responds with ‘Thanks for cheering me up.’ Very polite and dry, but you think she’s really grateful for what you’ve done.
You take this opportunity to see what other messages you have received so far! There aren’t many, but maybe some are worth reading:

The first one is from Scarlet! It seems she wants to visit Yukika but forgot to ask you where Calamity’s clinic is. You give her the address and she quickly replies back with a big thank you. Maybe you could hang out with her and get rid of Yukika’s entity. You don’t necessarily need to go with Scarlet either. She also mentions exams are coming next week and how troubled she feels about them
The second one is from Osgood! He mentions her date became her girlfriend and do not worry, she’s not going to interfere in any way in your flame shenanigans and such. He also mentions he would like the team to make a routine meet up soon.
The final one is from Matilda! It is essentially an ad for her services with one special message at the bottom. It seems someone paid her to send you a message; whoever it is he called himself ‘your fan’ and sends you a ‘Thank you!’ You wonder who could possibly be…

After reading these messages, you think you know what you want to do after classes…

>Meet up with Scarlet and together go visit Yukika at Calamity’s Clinic.
>Find this mysterious fan. You’ll have to ask Matilda for information.
>Time to give Scarlet the bad news about Osgood.
>You need to study for exams…! Maybe you could team up with someone and study together!

What you want to do after classes is clear! You want to find this mysterious fan – You’ll have to ask Matilda for information. You hope this fan ends up being a girl, for obvious reasons :^) You send a message to her with the intention of meeting after classes to discuss it.

Coming back to classes was way easier than you anticipated; well you’re smarter than the average student so it isn’t a real issue. Mr. Conti reminds everyone to study this weekend, because exams start from Monday until Thursday.
During one of the breaks you catch up with Terry and how he has been, nothing out of the ordinary – He wanted to know what happened to you and you told him you got into a fight but you’re fine overall. Terry seemed worried but he was glad you’re back.
During your history class, Ms. Uccelli gave probably one of the worst lessons you ever had with her, as most of the time she lost her train of thought and stammered a lot. The rest of the class didn’t seem to mind as they paid more attention than ever. Mainly your male peers, probably because of her outfit. After the lesson you inquire your teacher about her condition, but she said she was fine and quickly left. Probably really busy.
In your lunch break, Scarlet asked you more about Osgood. You lied to her and said you haven’t talked to him lately since he’s so busy with college. Scarlet appears to be losing more and more hope about getting intimate with your poker partner. You're not sure if you should feel good about that or not.
Classes are over. You asked Matilda to wait for you outside of your classroom. You open the door and she’s in front of you, way too close for your comfort right now.

“I’m here. What do you want to talk about? Anything you want me to do?” The expressionless Matilda says so quickly you barely caught her mouth move.
“Y-you’re too close.” You step back a little. Matilda remains unreadable. “We shouldn’t obstruct the exit…” You start walking towards the stairs; Matilda follows you by your side, subdued as ever.
“So?” Matilda says dryly.
“I wanted to know about my fan, the one who sent me that message.” You ask the blue-haired woman. Is that really her hair color or does she dye it? Who knows?
“Do you want me to present him/her to you? It’s going to cost you.” Matilda’s eyes are starting to shine, and though you aren't looking directly at them, you can see her fingers rub together in excitement.
“I knew it… How much?” This girl is all about money.
“3 Gor$.” She already opened her palm in front of you.

What do you do?

>Pay Matilda and let’s get to this fan. 3 Gor$ is nothing to you at this point.
>”What’s up with you and money?” Get to know more about Matilda's weird obsession.
>”Before we do any type of transaction, do you offer any specific services, or do I have to come up with everything?” A list would be nice. Or when she says 'anything' does she mean...?

Before we do any type of transaction, do you offer any specific services, or do I have to come up with everything?” It can’t be everything, right…?
“You don’t read my messages, do you? Isn’t everything good enough?” She seems rather confused by your statement. Like why would anyone do a list when you’re willing to do anything?
“I mean there should be something you like doing…” Yeah, you want to know her preferences.
“Let me think…” She suddenly stops dead in her tracks, it caught you off guard. “I like cooking, pet sitting, teaching martial arts, holding hands, cos—”
“Hold hands…? You like that?” You interrupt her.
“No, I don't - delete that from your memory. I was thinking about the things I have done lately.” She gets annoyed for a second.
“Honestly, who cares?” You shrug. “Wait, someone paid you to hold hands…?”
“You want to too? You look like the type who would pay for that.” That damaged your ego.
“…Y-your customer service needs improvement.”
“I’m sorry if I’m being rude.” She sincerely apologizes. “Ando, I don’t want to keep being rude, but are you going to pay me or not?”
“Uhm… I’m thinking if I should ask for something else.”

“Here, show me the way to my fan…” You hand her the 3 Gor$. Matilda grabs the paper money with a smile on her face.
“Thank you. This way please.” She politely points the way.

“So how much for the martial arts stuff?” You won’t find him easily, so you decide to make small talk to pass the time. Also it would be good exercise in dealing with people like this.
“5 Gor$ per class.” She doesn’t hesitate on the price for not even a second.
“What are your credentials?” It’s important. Frauds are everywhere and you already had a bad experience with her last time.
“I’ve been attending judo classes since I have memory.” That doesn’t mean much.
“That doesn’t mean you’re good.” You feel skeptical about this.
“Then test me.” She turns to you and puts on a defensive stance smoothly. Matilda seems legit.
“I'd rather not. I believe you now.” You don’t want to get your ass kicked again so soon. “So I have another request.”

“What is it?” You pique her interest. Matilda smells money.
“S-so how much for a cosplay…? As-asking for a friend.” You have enough courage to ask, but you don’t have enough to own it.
“30 Gor$ the hour, plus the rent for the outfit unless provided. We have to arrange a date and a place too.” That’s a bit too much for your liking.
“…That’s too much.” Though maybe once you're somewhat richer?
“That’s the price for someone I don’t trust. That’s not even taking in account other factors that can jack up the price.” Matilda responds dryly again. Isn’t it too convoluted just for something so simple to do…? Maybe she doesn’t like doing it. “We're here; he’s the man who was looking for you.” She points to a modest looking guy with short hair, he's too busy staring at his phone. You thought Matilda was looking for a specific room, but you found him in the middle of school. He’s somewhat familiar to you, but you can't remember from where you know him.

>”Ehm... You need to present me.” Is she half-assing it? That's not what you paid for!

“Ehm… You need to present me.” Your work is not finished yet, Matilda.
“My bad, I thought you only wanted to know who he was.” Matilda gets near the mysterious kid and talks with him for a second. You get closer.

“Is it really him…?” He doesn’t sound so thrilled.
“I swear it on my grandfather’s grave.” Matilda holds her hand up. “Here he is, it's Johnny Ando.”
“Hi…?” You’re confused and somewhat embarrassed by the situation.
“O-oh my god…! It’s really you!” Now he sounds thrilled! But why…? Well this kills the idea of having a fangirl. “My name is Howie Dewitt, I’m so happy I finally found you. Thanks Matilda!”
“No need to thank me. He paid me to find you.” Matilda clarifies.
“W-what…?! I’ll refund y-you! You don’t need to waste your money like that!” From his pocket Howie takes out his wallet. “How much did it cost?”
“3 Gor$.” Matilda replies.
“Here, have it.” Howie takes his money out.
“Thanks.” Matilda takes it… Wait, weren’t you supposed to be refunded…?

So this Howie looks like a plain guy with not much going on. He reminds you of yourself from weeks ago. Well, there you have him… What now?

“Matilda, that’s my money.” You open your palm the same way she did before. She reluctantly gives you the 3 bucks back, pouting.
“…My bad. It won’t happen again.” Matilda apologizes, but her eyes are still annoyed.
“Anyway, can you explain to me what’s going on?” You say turning back to Howie. For some reason Matilda is staying.

“Oh, riiiiiiight…!” Howie scratches the back of his head. “Do you remember me?” He points to his face as he smiles. He looks like an ordinary guy, even more than you did.
“Ehm… No...?” You don’t know where this is going. “But you do look familiar.”
“It was weeks ago, but you saved me from Blake near the men's bathrooms. He was the tall asshole who wanted my money.” Howie does a poor impression of Blake Wilkinson, the bully you told everyone was a school shooter, as he chased you for quite a bit.
“Yeah, Blake…” You stare blankly at the ceiling. You remember that day like it was yesterday… or months ago. But seriously, you will never forget how he was run over by the police. To this day it still gives you the worst type of chills, when the thought does come back to your head in between all the boredom and chaos.
“A-are you okay…?” Howie seems concerned. Now that he mentions it, you do feel a little nauseous from the memory.
“Do you need to go to the infirmary? I can carry you there for free.” Even Matilda is concerned, and you aren't paying her to be!
“I-I’m okay, just some bad memories – that’s all.” You shake your head. The nausea fades. “So is that why you are my fan now?”

“I-I’m not really your fan per se. I’m really thankful and all, but what happened was I wanted to thank you in person, so when I heard Matilda yelling your name in school before, I thought she could help me. But… Her fees are too damn high! All I could pay for was to send you an anonymous message, at least she was kind enough to put your fan so if it got your interest we could meet.” Howie then pulls his pockets out, showing how empty they are. “Of course it took me some days to gather the money too.” He laughs a little.

“Why it was so expensive?” You ask Matilda.
“I highly value the privacy of my clients.” She says as she raises her nose in the air with a look of distaste.
“…Oh.” You don’t really know how to respond. Matilda feels like a double edge sword.
“When do you start trusting someone, Matilda?” You wonder how her head works.
“Being a frequent customer is one way to earn my trust.” Matilda responds. There is another way, but she’s so interested in money she probably doesn’t want to tell you yet.
“Keeping your information secret forever, though, is 1 Gor$” Matilda extends her hand. Her expression hasn't changed.
“Keep ours safe, okay?” Howie pays 2 Gor$ to Matilda out of his back pocket, smiling like before. She nods curtly.
>>
>>2000120

“I’m sorry for the inconvenience I made you two go through.” Matilda apologizes. If she really cared she would give the money back. But she won't, and you know it.
“Ando, can we talk in private? I need to say something to you, alone.” Howie's demeanor completely changes when he asks you this. He's looking at Matilda out of the corner of his eye, and his body language (what little you can tell of it) gives you the impression of either urgency, or something else entirely...

“I have a bad feeling about him.” Philonune whispers to you. "I don't know why, but I wasn't feeling this before. Stay alert, Johnny, there's more to this human than he lets on..." Philonune has been saying that a lot lately. Is danger really getting rampant, or is he becoming more paranoid? You barely catch it, but Howie's eyelid twitches right at that moment, despite him still looking only at Matilda...

Anyway; What do you do?

“Yeah, of course... Let’s talk outside, but you go first. I need to check something real quick.” You take out your phone and text Matilda, then you call her and quickly hang up as Howie leaves the building. Matilda checks her phone and gets near you.
“Those 3 Gor$ would be nice…” Matilda whispers next to your ear, almost seductively. That’s the price for her to bodyguard you now. You sneakily hand them to her while winking. “I’ll be watching you. I have your back.” She grins as she hides in the shadows – but her eyes are on the money, not you.

You leave the building; Howie was waiting for you, sitting on the steps near the entrance, kicking his legs in boredom.

“Finally! What took you so long?” Howie ponders.
“I had to check on a friend of mine, she was injured recently and I wanted to see if any good news arrived.” In your mind you picture Yukika. Who really is not your friend, but otherwise fits the description to a tee. “So what’s up?”
“I really wanted to thank you! You really changed me that day…!” Are his eyes sparkling?
“How? I only saved you from a beat down.” You ask, shrugging. It really wasn't a big deal.
“Wellllll…! Before we met, I was just another ordinary man in the system. Another cog in the machine. You know… Below average, nothing stands out? What’s worse is that we live in a city with millions and millions, who between them are better and stronger people than I ever was.” He turns away as he says this, in an almost... empty way.
“Uhm… What does that have to do with me?”
“No offense dude, but even though you look somewhat different than before, you aren’t exactly a handsome genius.”

“Ugh…” Why do random people keep hurting your ego this way?
“B-but that’s okay! You showed me that’s okay! Being a loser like me is okay, but what’s not okay is not fighting at all. So when you decided to help me when I begged you for help, a fight you were losing for sure – I thought: 'Damn. Why would anyone kill themselves like that…?' But when the news about Blake’s death arrived, I knew there was hope in this world for losers like me. A loser kid like you defeated a man-beast. He even had a fucking gun!” Well that’s not true. Blake killed himself, but he doesn't know that. Does he...?
“T-that’s not entirely true.” You try to be humble to him about it.

“Oh, I know! When our little scene happened I not only wondered why you helped me… but how. You grabbed something, right…? From the air…?”
“I’m not sure what you’re talking about.” He couldn’t possibly know about the flames, right…?
“No need to hide it, I searched for it online and I figured it out on my own…! Johnny, you somehow stole his flame – right?” What the actual FUCK?!
“…”
“C’mon, you don’t need to lie to me! I know Blake had one. He was a gorilla, but he couldn’t just throw someone through a fucking roof and just leave them paralyzed like that!” He means your PE teacher. You forgot about him until now. Poor guy. “But you aren’t supposed to see the flames… Not to mention you can’t just steal them like that… So Johnny, tell me what’s going on…? I want to help!” He grins cheerfully. But the smile is too wide.

“We have to be careful, Johnny. I didn't see a flame on him coming here, but that's way too much information on us.” A worried Philonune says.

What do you respond?

I don't think we should discount the kid. But I do feel we should point out that it's not about being strong, or weak. It's about helping others as best you can. Sometimes that's by fighting, but other times it's by being a sacrifice and suffering without retaliating. Sometimes it's by tearing down something wrong, sometimes it's by building something better.

Finally also

< You aren't a loser. You weren't then, you aren't now. That's not how I look at people.

Yeah us getting our ass kicked for our pride was stupid, only slightly less stupid than using out Flame would have been.

It's not about fighting, it's about doing your best. Sometimes the best you can do is throw down, but violence is the last resort of the incompetent.
>>

Fighting Blake didn't change who Howie was. Howie chose to change himself. It didn't change who Blake was either, if he hadn't been hit by a car he would have still bullied people, if not Howie than people like Howie.

Fighting Blake helped that one time, but it didn't solve anything. It merely delayed and even escalated the problem.

If we started to fall back on the easy way of just fighting, then eventually we would be just a different kind of bully. And eventually we would meet someone stronger, and when we lost it wouldn't be just us that got hurt but also the people that care about us. The things that we want to protect.

With many doubts in mind, you decided to be truthful to the guy you just met. It’s not you haven’t it done before but you think it’s fitting now as well.

“Yeah, I’m well aware of that. Mostly I’m just trying to do my best here. But hear me out because this important: The flames aren’t your own strength. They are partners, friends at best but…” You have a short flashback of everyone who ended of becoming crazy because of their partners as you shudder. “…They can be just another bully as bad as or WORSE than Blake... Definitely worse than Blake now that I think of it… I mean one wants to destroy existence for seemingly no reason. Anyway, it’s not about fighting – It’s also about what you’re fighting for. I helped you because what I saw happening was wrong, well I felt it was anyway...”

“I understand it’s dangerous. That’s why I want to help.” Howie replies without putting in much thought.

“Do you? Look how beat up I’m now! This is because I got in another fight, a fight with a normal person. I barely lost that fight, because I was weaker… Because I didn’t use my flame.”
“Why wouldn’t you? Your life could have been in danger.” Howie seems confused.
“Because that would also be wrong. He was just a dude; you don’t pull a bazooka on a dude…! In hindsight I probably should have. But the point I’m trying to make is not fighting because you aren’t strong enough isn’t always the wrong choice. Fighting isn’t always the right choice… It all depends.”
“Yeah, all situations are different…! Ando I get all what you’re saying. Trust me, I can help!”
“Okay… But if you want to help me because you feel in debt you don’t have to. Last time one of us helped the other, it didn’t turn out so well did it now?”
“I swear I can be useful.”
“Then if you really want to help people, even though it could mean sometimes hurting others… I…” You lost your train of thought. “Just let’s try our best, okay? I don’t know how much of help you can be on the sidelines but we will see.” You extend your hand for a handshake.
“Yes, thank you! I won’t disappoint you!” He accepts your handshake.

“Ando, I still have a bad feeling about him. He’s most likely hiding something from us.” Philonune says while floating next to you. There is something disingenuous about him.

Howie seems delighted to be of help. But that doesn’t change the fact that Philonune finds him untrustworthy. You will have to find out why…

>”Glad you to have you on board but I need to go. I still need time to heal my wounds. I'll text you when I'm home.”

Dude probably wants his own flame. I say we get him to help, but keep Constance and our power a secret. So also everyone that Constance took a flame from.

Also we should let the Clinic dude know to watch out for him if he snoops around.

Better to have Howie where we can keep an eye on him.

“That being said, I think you’re hiding something from me – tell me the truth, please?” You tighten up the handshake as you ask poliely. Your level 2 Athletics is enough to make Howie uncomfortable.
“W-what could I po-possibly be hiding..?” Howie looks nervous as he tries to free his hand from your grasp.
“You tell me…” Philonune has never been wrong yet, and he’s acting strange.
“Fuck…! Okay, let me go…!” the squeamish student pushes you away, you let him go and he falls to the ground near the steps. The moment he shoves you back you feel an ominous presence coming this way… You think its Matilda. “…Man, you are as friendly as you look.”
“For being a fan you don’t really think highly of me.” You quip.
“Maaaaaaan, I’m trying to be friendly but you’re just being a self-righteous asshole. What do you expect me to think…?” He gets visibly annoyed. “You know what? I’m leaving; this whole thing was a mistake.” He angrily stands up, scoffing at you as he does so.

“Go after him, Johnny. It’s not over yet.” Philonune whispers to you. You really are thinking you screwed up something with Howie. Is Philonune really correct here…?

An irritated Howie is leaving after what it appears to be an uncalled mistreatment from your part. What do you do?

>“Who told you you can leave?” Be aggressive. He needs to know this is no game.

“Howie, you can’t leave until you tell me the truth. I’m willing to hear you out.” Maybe you’re feeling a bit paranoid…
“The truth…? I already told you the truth, goddammit. You’re the one who’s refusing to hear me out.” He’s still vexed with you. Isn't he overreacting a bit? “Dude, I get it. You can’t trust a stranger like me. Let’s forget this ever happened, okay?”
“That’s not it, I can feel you’re lying. You've been acting strange since we came here.” Between the weird twitches and all.
“You can see flames, right…? See! I have nothing…! What can I possibly hide from you that can be this threating for you to act this way?!” He shouts. “Power's got into your head, man. Or maybe you’re getting manipulated by your black flame, you should check if he isn’t one of the crazy ones like you mentioned. Now I think it’s the best for both of us if we forget this whole situation happened.” Howie had enough.

“Johnny, he’s trying to manipulate you – he’s hiding something. He puts his hand in his pocket when he feels threatened.” Philonune finally notices something to make you feel less paranoid about what you're doing right now.

What do you do?

>”I’m sorry, I made a mistake. Can we start all this over?” Apologize and try to amend things.
>”What are you hiding in your pocket?” It’s the only clue you have so far. Seize it!

Wait, I thought normies couldn't see flame deities period. Or am I wrong? She'll just see his hands get put together and him unable to move. If we play this right, we could make it look like he put his arms behind his back willingly, and turned himself towards us so we can check his pocket - but she's in line of sight of seeing his face, so she'll figure out something is up. Fuck.
I guess we can pay her to keep our secret?

“Why do you keep putting your hands in your pocket? Are you hiding something? Do you feel threatened? What are you hiding in your pocket, Howie…?” You say in a low, interrogatory tone as you slowly walk towards him.
“A-ah…? I-it’s nothing…!” Howie buries his hand in his pocket and seems ready to run, before he can do so you summon Philonune to restrain his hands, pulling the one right out of his pocket! “Guh…!? What is this? Why can’t I move…?! That’s a dumb question now that I think about it…” He doesn’t seem able to see your partner.
“What’s this…?” You search his pocket and find his cellphone. It’s dialing a mysterious number with an absurd codename on it: ‘7w157’…
“I wasn’t thinking this would turn out like this…! He’s going to fuck you up if you don’t let me go…!” He threatens you. His eyes have a scared look in them now.
“What are you talking about…?” You question the obnoxious kid.
“None of your concern…! Do it or you’re dead!” Howie is sweating like a pig. “I-I don’t want anyone to die…! Please!”

Out of nowhere a hooded figure appears running towards you from the gate…! He has a white flame on the chest! There is a long walkway between the gate and the entrance. The moment he sees that you're aware of his presence, he yells out:
“Let him go…!” The incognito person raises his voice! He doesn’t sound very threating, and for all accounts is very small. Even smaller than you!

Before he could get near you, Matilda appears from the shadows and grabs him by the clothes – and slams him on the ground like a sack of potatoes!
“Agh…!?” He shrieks like a little kid. Matilda grabs his arm and goes for an armbar. “AAaaah...!” The person, who you assume is this '7w157', yells like a bitch as he tries to grab the flame with his available hand.

In any other situation, Matilda would have everything under control at this point, but flames are a different story…

Time to be a hero! You make Philonune throw Howie away from you, and he falls down stairs comically as you approach the continuing struggle. Matilda's got the upper hand, but not for long...

“You’re done, bitch…!” The hooded kid shouts confidently, wimpy voice completely gone, as he finally summons his partner…! Matilda doesn’t understand what’s going on, and continues to apply pressure to the hold. The entity grabs Matilda by the arms.
“…?!” Matilda seems utterly confused as she struggles to move…!

But no need to fear! You run full speed ahead with Philonune already summoned! You mentally command your partner to strike with a decisive punch on the face of this weird angelic creature - because the face is always a weak spot, right? The creature bounces on the ground as Matilda flies from its grasp. Then as a panic attack you kick the hooded man in the face! Matilda seems impressed, even though you didn’t look technically sound with your maneuvers. You gain a little bit of Handsomeness…! You feel like you’re about to level up! But not right now.

“Fuck, it twisted…!” Howie yells from behind you, as he slowly recovers from the fall he just suffered.
“If you keep moving, I’m going to finish you off. And I might just enjoy it...” Philonune takes out his lighting spear and points at the hooded man’s throat. His grin doesn't falter a single bit. You see beads of sweat roll down the hooded man's forehead.
“…I surrender.” ‘7w157’ admits defeat as blood pours down from his nose. Matilda stands up and quickly punches the flame user in the side of his face, rendering him unconscious for good measure.

That was the easiest fight ever. This guy is nothing but an amateur; he didn’t even summon his partner in time! Howie and 7w157 need to answer some questions. Sadly this all the time we have for this week! Thanks for playing!

+1 Handsomeness.
