Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: Tabo Island, the forest outside of the newly modernized grass temple

Recently: You got to know Gardevoir, more about Hana's past, got confronted by Fug, called Val, and Bella learned Grass Whistle!

Belladonna thinks for a moment, then puts her petals to her mouth.

On instinct, you quickly cover your ears. You’ve heard about this move.

Her cheeks puff up and she blows as hard as she can. That does nothing, but when she pulls it back a bit and gets more gentle, you can hear a muffled version of Grass Whistle. You lift your ears when it’s over and look around.

“Phew. Doesn’t look like anyone was-”

There’s a thump as an acolyte falls into a table. It doesn’t look like it was too hard, but they knocked over a heavy jar, spilling a red liquid all over the grass.

“The dye!” Someone shouts.

“Kila!” Another runs to their friend. The unconscious Kila is quickly shaken back awake, confused, but okay.

“Idiot!” Someone calls the person who asked for Grass Whistle.

“I didn’t know the pokemon was going to hit someone! Who trained it.”

An eye falls on you, but the first person doesn’t let the conversation continue on blame. “It doesn’t matter. The dye’s gone. We can’t do the tale of the red Gyarados now. Not unless someone happens to have a shiny one.”

Nobody speaks up.

He puts a finger on his temple. “We’ll figure something out. Not like the Gyarados we have was very cooperative about getting painted anyway. Someone just, please put that pokemon away.” He motions to Bella, who’s been looking back and forth in concern.

>Retrieve Bella, apologize
>Offer to get more red dye somewhere

The morale of the group seems to have died a little with that spill. Someone trying to get their pokemon to do a small little dance in the background even takes a break. The stressed person calls for a break, and everyone stops what they’re doing to relax.

“Maybe we can do something else.” You offer, sitting next to him.

“‘We?’” He rolls the word around a bit. You aren’t sure if you should feel unwelcome or if it’s something else. “Like what?”

“Like...Oh! What if there was a gyarados headdress on a magikarp. Those are red.”

Hana bursts into laughter. But it’s a nice, supportive laugh. She seems to love the idea. So much that she’s not even worried about the people looking at her as she holds her sides.

The acolyte looks a little annoyed and a lot confused. “A magikarp looks nothing like a gyarados.”

“That’s what makes it work.” Hana wipes away a tear. “It’s comedic juxtaposition.”

“Wha-?”

Hana settles herself onto the log you’re all sitting on and prepares to launch into an explanation. You’ve only seen her this passionate when she’s getting lewd.

Oh gosh.

You shake your head and listen to what she has to say. She goes into explaining different film theories on comedy and drama, and how they interact. She keeps having to stop herself to go back to a concept and she trips over a lot of her words, but it’s still really interesting.

More acolytes gather to listen. Hana is so into it that she doesn’t even notice the crowd at first.

“Wow. You know a lot, lady.” A very young one tells her. “You should be the director.”

She blushes and hides her face. “Haha. Kids, right?” She tries to brush it off.

“Well, maybe that’s not a bad idea.” The formerly stressed one says. “You obviously know a lot.”

Hana awkwardly waves away the praise.

“And we could use the help. Priest Tokowi would have to approve, but I doubt he’d say no.”

Hana looks horrified. She’s on the spot, and a bead of sweat drips forms on her forehead already. She tries to form a word, but coughs instead.

“So is that a yes?” Someone laughs, trying to catch a look at her face as her hair falls in the way.

“You can do it.” You very gently nudge her on.

“Psh!” She does it too self consciously and almost makes a fart noise instead. “No I can’t!”

The group is watching you and Hana whisper back and forth. You think the closer people might be able to hear. “Don't stress about it, just do what comes naturally. These guy want your big beautiful nerdy brain Hana. Use it. You can always ask me for staging and make up advice, but you're much better at this than I am.”

“What comes naturally is getting under blankets and watching movies. I-I can’t do this! What if I have to tell people no? Directors have to boss people around and have everyone look at them!” She whispers.

“If it gets to be too much, you can tell Tokowi. He seems like he’d be understanding. You could be his assistant director.”

She hesitates, but with everyone looking at her, she puts on a big smile and stands up. “Okay everyone! I’ll do my best, until someone else comes along. Umm. Jeez, this is my first time, so, um, I’m sorry if I’m not very good.”

You squeeze her hand. She almost breaks yours in response. The apologetic look on her face lets you know she didn’t mean it.

People start peppering her with questions. She starts out a bit overwhelmed at first, but the senior acolyte directs people to work on their projects and he’ll come around with her one at a time to check in and answer anything. With that, she’s a relieved. She ends up relaxing a lot too, despite drinking a lot of water. Hana seems to be doing okay for now.

Woah. Look at the time. The day is flying by.

SOMEONE SAID DRESS LAKI
>>
Well, you want to train, but you really want to check in on Laki and the Beauty Branch first. Oh gosh. What if she’s wearing a nice dress?

You tell Hana that you’re just a call away if she needs anything. At first, her eyes go wide when she realizes you’re stepping away, but when someone asks her a question about how to do an entrance, she dives right into it. She looks like a natural. She gives you a more confident smile but doesn’t have time to stop talking, so you take that as a sign that she’s okay.

“Hey, Bella. Come along. We’re going to visit Laki quickly.”

Belladonna perks right up onto her feet and runs ahead.

“Other way!” She quickly changes course.

You go after her, laughing. Your other pokemon all follow suit, running along with you. You’re feeling pretty good after seeing Hana like that. You hope you don’t jinx it by thinking how good things are going.

You pick up the pace.

-

“Why’d you come!” Laki ducks away before you can get a good look at her. You dodged through a few of the Beauty Branch girls after coming through the correct entrance and being granted access and went right to her, but she didn’t seem very happy to see you. She was wearing one of the loose fitting robes that they have, but moved too quickly to the other room for you to get a good look.

You look around to the other girls, but they don’t offer any comments on Laki’s escape. You feel a little relieved when you see Abigail. Although you can’t help but feel slightly suspicious, too.

“What do you think?” She twirls.

“Huh. Oh yeah. Nice dress.” You barely noticed it. A small, tight, black, strapless dress that’s a little loose on the top because of her small size. “Hey, do you know what’s up with Laki?”

Abigail gives an unsatisfied look for some reason. “Oh. Yeah. She tried fitting into something too small and it ripped.” She immediately throws her hands up. “I didn’t make fun of her or anything. And that was hard because her muscles looked huge in it! I even tried to comfort her. Honest. I guess she took it as sarcasm or something. I don’t know. Don’t sweat it. She’ll get over it. Last thing she wants is to look weak in front of you.”

You try to follow after Laki into the other room, but an acolyte from the Beauty Branch steps in your way.

>Ask her to deliver a message to Laki

You take out your pokedex.

“No recording devices.” The acolyte tells you.

“I’m just calling.” You assure her. You put a thumb over the camera part and keep it aimed down, too, just to be extra safe. She seems satisfied with that. You don’t know what the big deal is. It’s not like-

An acolyte drops her pants, then changes into a small skirt. Oh wow. This is a changing room.

Well, it doesn’t matter! You quickly dial Laki and wait as it rings.

And rings.

And rings.

She’s ignoring your call!

You look around, a little frustrated. You want to see Laki and make sure she’s alright.

The acolyte at the door shakes her head. “Not happening.”

You feel a surge of...you don’t know what. Something assertive. “What if I beat you in a pokemon battle?”

She glances to the others and smirks. “Sure. Yeah. Okay. And what do I get if I win?”

A few girls are looking. One shouts “take his underwear!” as a joke. The others seem to like that idea. The girls are getting awfully rowdy. You feel a bit objectified, and not in the fun way that Laki does sometimes.

You look to Abigail. She just raises her eyebrows, wondering what you're going to do.

The guard unfolds her arms. “Come on. He’s not-”

“Fine!” You feel your biscuits burning.

“OoooOooooh!” There’s a collective, high pitched noise from the crowd.

Let's lead with Mace, have him back off and set up gravity, then swap out to bella, get grass whistle off (92% accurate due to gravity), growth 2 or 3 times while they sleep, then poison jab them down.

“Great! Let’s battle over there so nothing gets broken.” You motion to the open courtyard.

“Nothing except your pride.” She quickly retorts. Another round of Ooohs follows.

She reaches for a pokeball, waiting for you to do the same. You guess that means she sees you as on the same level. You’re not sure if that should make you confident or not.

Bella climbs on top of you to shout at your opponent from atop your shoulders.

Ah! That’s right. She’s seen all your pokemon! You’re at a disadvantage here. She’s probably chosen something that’s a good fit against most of your team.

Maybe you’re overthinking it. This is also the grass temple. It’d make sense that she’d have grass pokemon. But is that a solid rule or just a general thing? The conservationists talked about a Gyarados, but do they have one themselves or are they borrowing one from somebody else?

“Ready when you are.” She shouts from across the open courtyard. A light breeze pushes the short grass around.

“Wanna borrow Conquerer?” Abigail startles you with an offer. That’d certainly give you an edge for surprise

“Alright! Go Gobble!”

At the same time, she tosses her own pokeball. “You’ll regret using an ice type here! Go Breloom!”

“Ice type?”

There’s some laughter from the crowd.

“I thought you were going to use that one.” She motions to Sorbet. Sorbet blinks at the crowd. There’s a lot of awws.

Gobble punches his fist into his other hand. His tough persona fades for a second as he looks back to you to see what’s on your mind. You smile and nod that he’s posing well, and he happily jumps back to it.

The Breloom paces, then does a cocky little hop from side to side. He’s eager to make his fists fly.

“It doesn’t matter. Your Munchlax is going down. Sorry, Gobble.” She says, not entirely mockingly.

“Mach Punch!” She yells.

“Gobble! Body Slam!”

Gobble is pummeled in the gut by the suddenly appearing Breloom. It hurts, but Gobble is a strong pokemon that can take a beating, so he just continues on with Body Slam anyway. He doesn’t have to go far at all to come down on the mushroom pokemon. You almost think for a second that you got lucky with it, but Gobble is quickly lifted up into the air a few feet by a strong, non-damaging kick. Gobble staggers back to keep his balance, and Breloom prepares another-

No! He’s already moving! Dang! It’s so much faster with that Mach Punch! It’s coming around again and Gobble won’t be able to pull a move before it arrives! You can already tell this is going to be a losing battle if Breloom can keep doing that.

Gobble will probably take two hits total by the time he gets another move off.

“Gobble! Metronome!” You shout to him, hoping he heard you over the cheering girls. You didn’t know that pitch could be sustained for so long. It’s almost it’s own sonic attack.

Gobble nods subtly. Right after, he takes a blow to the get. You didn’t even see Breloom move before he landed it. You guess that’s the power of Mach Punch.

Breloom bounces away as Gobble performs Metronome. You cross your fingers, hoping for something to change the situation. You’re left confused when you see some sort of flaming aura form around Gobble’s face.

“What is that?” Abigail asks.

“I...don’t know.” You’re not familiar with this move at all.

Breloom interrupts your thoughts with another blow. This one to the jaw. Gobble’s head cocks back, but he doesn’t go down. Breloom once again leaps away.

As it prepares for yet another attack, it hesitates. It looks at it’s fist and winces.

It’s burnt!

Gobble blasts off after it. A mighty pointed flame forms like a beak in front of him, and he lands it directly on Breloom!

The grass pokemon goes flying back. It tumbles and sprawls out before catching itself on the ground. It’s able to barely keep itself upright for a moment.

But only a moment. It collapses from the burn.

“Breloom!” She yells out. She quickly retrieves him and looks up at you. “You...you got so lucky!”

Gobble cracks his neck. He’s putting on a tought act though. You can tell he’s barely standing. His knees wobble ever so slightly.

“Good job, Gobble.” You say, calling him back. You lift his pokeball, but he waves to you to lower it. As you do, he walks back. There’s a slight limp in it, but he hurries along and sits himself down next to you to watch the rest of the fight.

You pat him on the head. Some of the girls watching reach over and you flinch, but they congratulate Gobble. His stoic act drops a little.

You glance up and see the opposing pokemon.

“Behold, the extremely rare Jumpluff!” She brags. “Gotten from the most exotic traders to come to our islands.”

You’ve seen a lot of those and it’s line back home, but you don’t want to ruin her thunder.

You think about who to send.

“Go, Sorbet!” You shout, pointing.

Sorbet looks up at you. She drops her nevermeltice, then quickly picks it back up again.

“Go on Sorbet.” You motion. She quickly scampers onto the field this time. Despite the adorable entrance, you know she’s a fierce fighter. She certainly didn’t let herself get caught easily.

While she enters, you notice that your opponent wasted no time in using Sunny Day. “You might have luck on your side, but don’t underestimate us just because of the types.” She warns.

Jumpluff finishes the move and gets ready to attack. This girl is taking the battle seriously. You suppose she has to, with the type advantage you have right now. You’re pretty sure that Jumpluff are both Grass and Flying.

“Sleep Powder!” She shouts out.

“Ice Shard!” You yell at the same time. Sorbet takes on this subtle little viciousness and lets a fang show before nailing her opponent with a sharp and quick shard of ice. Oh, that looked like it was very effective! Jumpluff barely holds on!

“Holy..that worked! Good job, Jumpluff! Stay in there Toxic and Leech Seed, quick!”

You watch helplessly as she uses both moves. Expertly, you have to admit. That Toxic looks especially effective.

Sorbet mercifully wakes up before Jumpluff is able to use any more moves. But man, this has changed things.

You’re tense, but that’s probably just the heat of the battle. You still feel fairly confident, as long as you don’t flub the next move. Sorbet does seem a little off her game because of the audience, but so far it hasn’t been enough to make her choke. You guess you can understand. She’s the newest member of your team and the one that was least enthusiastic to give up the wild pokemon life.

You try to figure out what her Ability is. You’ve studied a bit in that area, but not that much. Jumpluff seems fairly fast, but is that a speed Ability like Chlorophyll, or are they just really quick naturally? It hasn’t been flying around much so you can’t tell for sure. It could be a different Sunlight based ability, too. There are a few, if you recall.

Sorbet loses some health to the poison, and some more to Leech Seed. You just want to run out there and rip those off of her.

“Alright, now follow up with Synthesis!” She commands.

The question is, do you want to try to hit it first for sure with another Ice Shard and hope that takes it down, or try to hit it with a slower but stronger attack?

“AURORA BEAM!” You shout, getting very heated.

“Use that sunlight!” She encourages her Jumpluff as the freezing beam connects.

It’s a stalemate of wills. Sorbet holds the beam, but Jumpluff keeps healing up with Synthesis. It’s clear that the flying pokemon can’t hold on for long, but the help from Leech Seed is making a difference in how long it can stay up. Toxic wears down Sorbet, too.

One of them is going to give out.

Gobble jumps to his feet and shouts support to Sorbet. She glances back for a fraction of a second, not risking any more lapse in concentration than that.

“Okay!” Your opponent suddenly shouts. “You win.” She retrieves her Jumpluff. The Aurora Beam continues on for a second before Sorbet stops it. She nearly falls forward.

You rush forward to your poor little Vulpix to congratulate her. She looks up weakly, but happily. She doesn’t even care when Gobble comes over.

“He still had his Munchlax. It's strong enough to be a cheerleader, it can still fight.” She explains to the crowd of girls. “Look. And, I don’t want to be the bad guy.” You think you’re the only one to hear her mumble that. You look up, and she motions for you to go see Laki.

You quickly administer an antidote, not feeling like wasting a second. That was one heck of a Toxic.

Gobble finally lets his energy give out and slowly falls asleep on Sorbet. She goes from being okay with him patting her on the back to annoyed at the heavy sleeping weight on her, pinning her down.

You get up and go to Laki’s door. You can see it quickly shut when you look at it. She must have been watching. You feel a lot of eyes on you too as the girls watch you. But they seem to be cheering you on a bit. You’re no longer the object of teasing, but someone who they want to see succeed here.

“I didn’t want to be seen.” Laki mumbles through the door. Her tone is hard to read. Maybe you're just reeling from the match, but you think she sounds impressed.

“How come?” You softly whisper. “Is somebody bothering you? You want me to go beat them up for you?”

“Nobody’s doing anything like that.” She says.

Good. You’re still feeling a lot of energy from the battle. Looking back at Gobble, you decide to do as he does and press on, even if you’re feeling a bit unsure. You burst through the door. It almost falls off the hinge.

Laki’s chest rises and falls in surprise. The soft fabric of the loose, -for lack of a better work,- kimono, floats over her skin. You want to reach out and touch it. Her short hair is done up in a nice bun, her legs are clearly freshly shaven and smooth, and there’s some light make-up and eyeliner that’s a bit smudged. She holds the dress together, as if it’d fall off if she doesn’t.

“You went to a lot of trouble.” She remarks, tearing her gaze from the small, torn dress on the floor to you.

“It’s worth it to see you.”

“That’s so corny.” She smiles, looking away.

“What happened?”

She looks back down at the dress. “I barely got it on. Felt pretty foolish with it. The other girls, they were nice. Told me I looked pretty. I know they were just being nice, humoring the big hulk-girl. I let me guard down and one accidental flex later...” She motions to the dress. “I felt like a Jynx next to a bunch of Milotic. Those girls out there, I can’t compete.”

“Laki...”

“It’s your fault. You always make me feel sexy. Pretty. I forgot what I am. I can tease you like I’m some dainty little thing. I don’t know if you’re blind or what. Now here I’ve gone and acted like an emotional girl. I don’t know. I made you do a lot.” She laughs, then sniffs. "Busting in doors like that. What are you thinking?"

[I was thinking something like this, but I'm not married to anything exactly out of it. The flowers I like for the scene because of the delicate and distinct femininity that almost mocks Laki in her head without her realizing how much of her girly side it's bringing out, but that's just me. Personally, I’m a fan of seaking kimono. But I also like the idea of a Froslass kimono, because the big girly red bow on it would be visible to everyone but Laki, and Froslass is a 100% female pokemon that is also powerful.

Nah that dress is just wonderful as is, Bella would love it. For last names uhhh Hana Peplon, Laki Keahamar(bastardized Hawaiian "heavens fire" and magmar), something Grand perhaps for Valerie but I could've sworn she had a last name already I just can't remember the vispum company name, Jane may have some relatively normal last name but perhaps she takes after whatever name her island ancestors had, Polu seems like he'd have a name meaning stern or strict just because it'd be funny to play off of his rather carefree attitude so far.
>>
>>2023506
I dig the flora print kimono.

As for surnames ideas:
Jane - Barrett meaning "strife", originally given to a quarrelsome person. I like the idea that she has the name of her non-native parent.

Laki - Anewa, a Maori masculine name meaning "to fall". Or Anitelu a Polynesian masculine name which means "Masculine, Manly".

Keira - Vaitea means "clear water"; a combination of Tahitian vai meaning "water" and tea meaning "white, clear". Or Aka'aka which means "laugh" or "to laugh" in Hawaiian. Or Vaite which is derived from Tahitian vāite meaning "soul, spirit".

Hana - Ohana means "family" in Hawaiian. Kaikoa means "sea warrior" from kai meaning "sea, sea water" and koa meaning "soldier, warrior, fighter." Or Koali'I which means "small warrior" from koa meaning "soldier, warrior, fighter" and liʻi meaning "small, tiny." Or Vaimiti
of Tahitian vai meaning "water" and miti meaning "sea"; it could also mean "little mermaid", "gushing water", or "where the sea meets fresh water".

Valerie - Belmonte means "beautiful mountain" or Bonner which means "kind, courteous" and "good bloodline"

Polu - Maimiti means "surfer" or "coming from the sea" in Tahitian; a combination of may meaning "to come" and miti "sea". Or Kainalu which means means "sea wave" from kai meaining "sea, sea water" and nalu meaning "wave, surf."
>>
>>2023506
Jane needs a really white name like Schmidt, or Ivanov. But her middle name is Pu’ala or something similarly Loanan and that’s what she tells people her “second” name is.
>>
>>2023909
Please not Schmidt. I work with someone with that last name. He loves collecting seaglass and is a borderline hoarder with the stuff.
>>
>>2023671

>>
>>2023506
Unfortunate (and real) last names for Hana:

My personal favorites are Loser and Job. (Han’ Job.)

Location: Tabo Island, a small changing room in the beauty branch wing of the grass temple

“It’s okay to act like a girl.” You assure her. You don’t know if you want to associate crying and locking yourself away with acting like a girl, but it’s her view on the matter. And it is sort of reminding you of your sister’s behavior a little. “You’re the most beautiful girl here.”

“Psh.” She looks torn between smiling and breaking down. “You’re just saying that. I don’t look anything like those girls.”

“That’s why you’re so beautiful. You’re different. Don’t worry about the dress. With a few modifications, it’ll look great on you.” Your hands touch a few spots on the dress, and then her leg and a few spots under her arm to compare rough measurements. You don’t even think about it. It’s just something your brain starts on before the smarter part of your brain realizes.

She squirms and lets out a tiny giggle from the touch. You didn’t know she was that ticklish. “Why do you go to so much trouble for me?”

“I want to make you feel as beautiful as you are.”

She let’s out another half laugh and looks away. “Jeez. You’re laying it on thicker than my thighs.” She stands up and faces in the mirror. This cramped change room doesn’t leave much room to maneuver. “You’re sweet, Soft Hands. Sweet, and strong, and able to just do whatever you want without worrying. You don’t even realize you do it.” She pushes you back against the wall with her rear end. “It just...makes me want to bully you! How do you get to be so perfect?” Her hands reach back and tickle you. You’re stuck. You see a predator-like smirk on her face in the mirror

Maybe it’s the leverage, maybe it’s the confidence, but whatever the case is, you find it easy to fight back and pin her against the wall. You grab both of her arms and press them against it, too. She laughs and tries to get loose or at least turn around. Every time you loosen, she just tries to tickle you some more, so you keep her pinned as gently as you can. Both of you laugh, but the smell and touching and grinding of bodies against each other quickly changes the mood.

“You’re getting stronger.” She comments. “Harder.”

“Well, you’ve been a good influence.” Has your training with her made a noticeable difference?

“You always make me feel so...desirable.” She pants, arching her back a little. “You have me. I’m yours. What are you going to do with me?”

“What do you mean?” You gulp.

She smirks. Even pinned, there’s something about it that makes you feel helpless. “Take me. Please.”

“H-here? Now?”

“Wherever you want. We have a room.in the temple. To stay at while we’re helping.” She keeps grinding as she talks. “I know you’re nervous. We’ll practice until we get it right. Make me feel beautiful.”

“Laki...” You begin. Oh jeez on man how are hips like this even possible? What is this fabric made out of? Does she have anything on under it?

“Come on.” She moans.

“Okay. But with Hana. And tonight, not here. I don't want to give the girls who tried to battle for my underwear the satisfaction.”

“Yeah. That bitch would pro-... Wait, seriously?” She blows hair out of her face. “I was just trying to tease you into ruining your pants so I could get my advantage back.”

“Oh. Does that mean you don’t-”

“I do!” She startles you enough to loosen your grip. “No take-backs. Tonight.” She looks to one corner of the room, then the other. “You’re not agreeing just because I made you feel bad, right? I don’t do pity.” She puts her face close to yours, looking you right in the eye.

“No. I-”

“Good.” She moves on, not needing anything else besides your word. “Oh damn. Okay. Let me think.” She paces. “I’m still taking vispum, so that’s good there. Hana is...where’s Hana?”

“She’s helping the conservationists. Actually, she’s directing the play.”

Laki’s already looking around for her Pokedex to contact Hana. “That’s...actually that’s pretty good for her. That’ll soften the blow when I tell her I’m going first.” She grins back up to you. “And I plan on being greedy.”

Your heart is pounding so hard from that look she gives you. You just move on your own, kissing her. She drops her pokedex, then her robe, and the two of you lose yourselves in the moment. You keep whispering to her how beautiful she is, and each time she reacts with more moans and touching. Finally, there’s a small break just to catch your breath.

“Are you sure you don’t want to now?”

You really struggle with your answer, but you somehow find the strength. “Yes. I want to do it right. You deserve it.”

She throws her robe back on. There’s a distinct change to her body language. She looks much more secure with herself. She keeps giving you this cute little smirk. And every time you’re just about ready to leave, she does something to make you not able to stand up. She really seems happy with herself when she does.

“Okay, okay. I’ve teased you enough. Save it for tonight.” She leans on your shoulder. “Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

The two of you exit the changing room. You see some eyes on you and Laki, but she makes some sort of swear that you didn’t ‘bang’ that everyone takes as absolute truth. She gives you directions on where the room is, gives a heck of a look at Abigail, and goes to meet Hana.

You decide to go train, just like you planned. It’ll keep you find psyching yourself out. Abigail follows behind. “She looked smug.”

“Alright team. I want to do some laps, some exercises, and for everyone to work up an appetite.” You lean down, pouring some healing energy into Gobble and Sorbet. Not a lot, but enough that they’re not completely toast. Gobble motions to Sorbet to see if she thinks that your healing is as amazing as he thinks. She looks impressed with you, and tolerant of him. “Bella, you and I are doing special training.”

“What happened?” Abigail continues to probe. “Come on. Tell me!”

“Don’t worry about it.” You say back. You don’t want to be a big blabbermouth. And you feel a bit nervous, so you’re trying to keep your mind off of it for now.

“Pfft, you’re no fun.” She pouts.

Belladonna is pouting too. You promised her some training.

“What’d you do to cheer her up? Give her something? I want one too!”

You give her a funny look. It's not even on purpose, you just aren't sure what to say to that.

“What? Okay fine. I’ll let it go.” She takes out a pokeball. “But I’m here if you want to talk.” There’s a rare sincerity in her voice with that last line.

“Oh. Thanks, Abigail. That’s nice of you.”

“You don’t have to sound so surprised.” She rolls her eyes and leaps into training with her pokemon.

You turn to Belladonna.

“Yeah! Now we’re shaking that rust off!” Abigail shouts to her pokemon, ruining the peaceful, scenic atmosphere of this little outdoor area. “Friggin’ rights!”

“Come on, Bella, we can do well too. We’re going to combine some moves.”

She looks up quizzically.

You begin training on combining Pin Missile and Leech Seed. Bella’s very eager to fire projectiles at anything, including the occasional stone you didn’t designate. But she listens when you command and appreciates it when you’re patient with her. She just gets a little rambunctious, that’s all.

With some time and effort, she seems to understand the fundamentals. But you do not feel confident using it in a live combat situation. It’d be risky. Sometimes she just does one and not the other, and in a weaker state than normal. Most of the time she seems to get it when she’s still and able to concentrate.

“Good job, Bella!” you bend down and give the little green troublemaker a hug. She squeals in delight.

Huh, you still have a little time. Not enough for training, but maybe a quick chat.

Mace and Dice are laying down after some hard exercise. Mace especially looks pooped. Dice looks like he wasn’t trying as hard and just likes watching that tiny little stream go by. He lazily swipes at a small twig that floats by. Mace just sits silently. If you didn’t know him as well as you do, you’d almost mistake him for a rock.

“Is it okay to talk?” You ask Mace, sitting down.

He nods. He doesn't mind Dice nearby. That’s good. Dice seem like he’s becoming friends with everyone. Even Sorbet, who you’d think wouldn’t like his carefree nature, seems to like him. He takes some getting used to, but he’s just so enthusiastic about being near you that you get infected by it.

Mace glances up. Strange as it is, you feel like he knows what it’s about. He’s had a few rough encounters. With the latest, Gardevoir, he doesn’t seem to be sure of himself.

You put a hand on his head. You try to scratch him as well as you can, but you just can’t manage the way he likes it when Hana does it. He appreciates it all the same, though. His stoic nature lets a cute snuggle through.

He’s got a different type of stoicism than Gobble. Gobble is expressive, lively, and shows his emotions on his sleeve for the most part. It’s physical pain that he doesn’t let show. Mace is the opposite. With him, he doesn’t like to show his emotions as much. At least, not the ones that make him vulnerable. You almost guess that comes with age, but then you remember how jolly and open Grandpa would get.

“Don’t worry, Mace. You’ve got a lot of inner strength. And outer strength, too!”

He glances up. You can’t read his face.

“I promise though, I’ll help you get even stronger. I know that sometimes you can look at an evolved pokemon and think that they’re intimidating or have something you don’t.” The awareness of Dice being right there grows a lot. “But you have something they don’t, too. And I respect that. I promise, you’ll be able to show how strong you really are inside.” Jeez. You hope that wasn’t patronizing. He’s not reacting.

He begins to charge. You yank your hand back in time as he forces out a massive blast of energy at the stream. A jet of water, then sand and rocks and mud and even dry dirt, flies off the ground like it’s being tossed by some sort of crazy, supercharged snowblower. Dice doesn’t care, and just lazily swats at another bit of twig as it slowly dies down.

“Are-are you okay, Mace?”

He huffs another, weaker, very short blast, then looks up at you. Oh. You get it. He’s upset. “At me?” you ask.

He nods.

“Why?” Your chest tightens.

You try to read his body language, but you can’t understand the details. It seems complicated.

It hurts. You don’t feel like a very good trainer suddenly. “I’m sorry, Mace. I can’t understand.” You glance around, looking for Keira or Gardevoir.

He huffs. Dice gives him a gentle chomp on the head, and he settles down. Mace makes a gesture to you. You think you can understand this one.

“You’re upset, but, we’re still okay? You don’t want me to go away?”

He pushes himself up against your hand gently. That seems to confirm it.

The two of you sit for awhile. Mace seems upset with himself, too. You feel like opening up to him. You want to tell him about...

Dice looks at you this time. You don’t think he’s capable of communicating or even using sarcasm, but that face he gives...nah. You’re just imagining it because of the topic. As if to answer, he gently nibbles your hand. That puts you at ease.

“I can’t fight.” You set aside an unexpected rush of memories with the frying pan. Those were all luck. “I don’t think I’m a good battler either. You guys do well despite me, not because of me. And I just get lucky with the rest. Metronome saved the day. Heck, most of my battles become wins because I’m lucky enough to have pokemon that don’t give up easily.”

Mace doesn’t react. You don’t know if he’s not listening, or just absorbing it all, or what.

“I feel like sometimes I just get by because everyone underestimates me.”

Mace turns to you. That line seems to really connect with him.

“You feel the same way?”

He nods.

You scratch his head some more and enjoy watching the stream slowly fix it’s flow. The damage he did is deep, but the water keeps coming and going with just a slightly different bit of swirling paths.

You feel like you’ve grown a lot closer.

Huh. You guess this is how Laki feels a lot, too. She gets worried about showing her vulnerabilities. But it’s nice to explore them in the safety of a friend’s presence.

“I know we have more to talk about, Mace. But are we, cool for now?”

He nods. He’s done talking for now.

You get up and stretch.

You figure you’d better do the responsible thing and exchange notes with the High Priest before you prepare for tonight. You have to wait a bit to see him, and your visit draws a few curious eyes.

“So, Dice. Do you know that Gardevoir? From before?”

He looks unsure.

“You don’t know?”

He nods. You guess if he does, it would have been a long time ago. You make a mental note about that.

Koa comes and greets you, and invites you into his private room. You greet him with the customary bows, and after, he cracks a big smile.

“The conservationists tell me things are going very well. Your halfling friend is doing a great job. You have no idea how happy that makes me, Herb. The conservationists are reserved, isolated people in general. Having someone like her take the lead is just what we needed. She sounds like a natural, confident leader. I’ll have to let her know we’re all counting on her.”

There’s a lot you want to comment on with that. “Halfling?”

“Is that not the right term? I didn’t mean any offense. We have been having trouble with the Beauty Branch. Some disruptions. Seems a boy got into their changing area and teased the poor girls. They have vows, you know.”

“I...uh.”

He waves off your nervousness and laughs. “I’m...what do you call it? Chaining your yank? I know how they get. We need so many volunteer chaperones any time they go on missions. An exotic boy like you? I’m surprised you got out alive.” He leans in. “But do be careful. We need them to focus. And, I don’t think you’re that type, but their vows are serious. Don’t tempt them. And if you can’t help, don’t distract them.”

“I-”

“Now, the agriculturalists, they seem to not be taking it seriously, yet. This is good. I’ve had a few questions, but the attitude is one of simple annoyance at extra work and arrogant goofery. Still, If the other branches bring a serious effort, they’ll be sure to notice.“

Your mind wanders to tonight for a moment, but you bring it back to what he’s saying.

>Complain about how the beauty branch girls acted

This is the area she is best at, but she is new to leading and unsure of herself, no matter how well she's doing.

>>
“Um, do me a favor and take it easy on Hana. She’s really not used to this sort of thing. Film and stage stuff is the area she’s best at, but she is new to leading and unsure of herself, no matter how well she's doing.” You hope you explain that right.

“Oh? I heard she was the picture of confidence. But you’d know best. Of course, Herb. I’ll talk with the Conservationist Branch’s top people tomorrow.”

“Thanks. And, well, maybe you talk to Keira, too? I know y-”

He sighs. “We’ve been over this. Keira can’t be involved. I won’t let me problems and rivals become hers.”

Your breath shakes a little as you inhale. “She needs to hear from you. I know her.” You ignore the eyebrow raise he gives you. “She’s not actually that confident about things. It’s a role she takes because others depend on her. Please. Give her something.”

He turns from you and looks out the window. “Not many would contradict a High Priest after something has been settled.” The usually jolly man turns stern. “I know Keira as well, and she’s not someone who will let her curiosity go, or let me act without helping. Do you think I’m a fool? She doesn’t need to see this side of the clergy. I can bring a balance to things before she advances so she never will!”

“But-”

“I love Keira like a daughter! I won’t...I won’t destroy the twinkle in her eye when she talks about my temple.”

There’s a tense silence.

“She’s going to figure it out. You know how clever she is.”

“The matter is settled.”

“Well, I hope you change your mind anyway.” You shake. You hate confrontation. “Anyway. Have a good night.” Your tone shifts. You don’t want to sound like you hate him. You just felt strongly about what you said is all. You hope he doesn’t hate you. Oh man. You could have said everything so much better. Why are you so bad at this?

“I...you as well.”

You sigh in relief as you close the door. You guess he’s the type of person that can set aside these things. At least, you hope that’s the right interpretation. You almost want to go back and ask, but that’d be silly.

Would it?

Yes. You decide. You go to your room. It’s time to get ready. Hoo boy. You open the door and-

“Herb!” Keira falls into you and steals a hug. “My Herby werby.”

What? You pull her off. Her eyes are red and glazed over. “Are you okay?”

“IIIII have access to a looot of spiritual herbs.” She laughs. “Herbs!” She gives you another hug.

Gardevoir isn’t as grabby at all. Instead, she’s just standing there with her shoulders hunched funny and her mind a million miles away, a big smile on her face.

You quickly close the door and take her back in. Hana’s there. She helps.

“She’s just a little...goofy.” Hana assures you, motioning to a side door in your little suite. “There’s a connected room for her. I’m trying to convince her to go to sleep.”

“Sleep.” Keira seems to try to cast a spell of sleep on you. “That’s where dreams go. Because dreams in real life don’t exist. Not unless you chase them in the smoke!” She laughs again. She smells like she smoked a lot.

You and Hana help her onto her bed.

“Umm, I’m all showered up and stuff.” Hana blushes. “I can handle this if you want. Laki’s on the way. Abigail said she’d help with Keira but I haven’t seen her.”

You glance back to your room. Nice, thick walls, a comfy, large bed. There’s even a sink and hotplate, and coffee machine and minifridge. It’s like a modern hotel room!

“You’re sure?”

Hana smiles. “That’s my secret Herb. I’m never sure about anything.”

You don’t know how to respond, but she insists it’s just a joke about a movie reference and sends you on your way to get ready.

Okay. Okay. You look in the mirror. It’s this or the souffles, and you don’t think you have the resources on hand to make those as well as they deserve.

Okay.

You’re fine. You’ve done...stuff with both of them before. This is just more of that. No need to make a big deal out of it. You calm down. No panic attack today. You lay out your tweezers and comb and everything and get to work. There’s something calming about it. It’s one of those things that just leaves you with a sense of satisfaction. And if you’ll let yourself get a little cocky, you’re not half bad looking when you’re done, either. You point your fingers at the guy in the mirror.

“John.” You hear Laki call you by your real name. Laki is wearing that maid outfit from the truth or dare night. Oh jeez! She’s almost bursting out of it. She must be able to read your face because she gets that self-conscious smile she gets when you call her cute. “Okay! Stop looking!”

“Keira’s finally asleep. She’s got Abigail pinned down and-woah.” Hana appears from the other door. She’s wearing normal clothes, but has a blonde wig.

“What’s that?” Laki’s smile vanishes.

“Well. You know. I thought it’d help, rev your engine,” Hana makes an awkward motion, “if it were two blondes. I know I’m no Valerie but-”

Laki looks strangely touched. “You’re both idiots.” She tosses you onto the bed, followed by Hana. You don’t have time to even talk before you find yourself floating from one kiss to the other.

Laki produces a condom and a wink. “So, are you ready?” She grabs you. “I think you’re ready.”

“Oh.” Hana says at the protection.

“What?”

“Well, we’re both using vispum, and I can’t even get pregnant, so...”

Laki makes a facial expression conveying that she thinks that’s a good point. “I can’t argue that.” She tosses the condom aside. “Raw is supposed to feel better.”

They both look to you.

“Well, I guess since you put it that way, I don’t see the harm in it.” You tell them, looking at the box across the room.

“Awe-hasome.” Hana mumbles.

“I’ll try to pull out if you’re nervous about it.” Laki says.

The girls seem to team up as they strip you down. You feel like a toy doll, almost, but a very happy one as you get touched and kissed all over. You can’t help but notice that Laki is letting Hana do the same to her, too.

“Lose the stupid wig.” Laki says.

“Ah. Sorry.” Hana tosses it. “I can’t really pull that off, huh?”

Laki gives her a sweet look. “It’s not that. I just want it to be you. You ‘rev my engine’ enough.”

“Laki...” Hana smiles up at her.

“Shut up.” Laki smushes Hana’s face with her hand. “Blame Soft Hands. He’s rubbing off on me.”

“Net yet.” Hana offers as a joke. She’s never able to get the timing right on her jokes, but the earnest and shy way she offers them up is endearing enough to make it funny anyway. “Right?”

“Yeah.” Laki says soft, lifting the maid costume off. “Soft Hands, Hana, are you ready? Did you want to go first or...”

“Oh, I mean, either or.” Hana says. “I mean, there’s only one Herb, but I trust him.” She smiles to you. “Not that I’m not eager to get hopping on it like a buneary. I just don’t mind going second. I think it’d hot to guide you in and...I mean, I can go first too. You know. I’m flexible. Not like that. Well, I guess kinda like that because of the legs and all.”

Laki mercifully silences her with a quick kiss. “You’re the man, Soft Hands. Whatever you say goes.”
