(NOTE: This is gonna be a short thread, ending on Nov. 1st. I'm participating in NaNoWriMo, and that shit eats up free time like a swarm of termites in a lumber mill. So until December, don't expect any Cold Country, Raidou Kuzunoha the XVI, or Persona Quest Rebooted)

Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1985371/

War, war never changes. You are Thirsty, an ex-raider trying to find his place in the post-War West Virginian wasteland known as the Big Dark. Right now, you're heading up to TelMo, hoping to figure out what to do with yourself now that you're no longer a raider.

The road north is cold and so far it's been quiet, with only your footsteps and the radio on your PipBoy to keep you company.

"-And that was 'Dark As A Dungeon' by Merle Travis, an accurate description of the valleys in the Big Dark. Got another PSA for you wonderful listeners: If you're hanging around the town of Nerao, please do not mess with the robots. They're property of the Listeners, and programmed to keep those big ol' machines of theirs running so they can, quote, 'listen to the stars'. You leave those 'bots alone, and they'll leave you alone. Now, here's the man in black himself, Johnny Cash, with 'I Walk The Line."

You're still walking down the road when you see a small ruined town in the distance. You could stop to scavenge- or you could keep going.

While searching the kitchen for food, you come across a hidden panel hidden in the wall right next to the broken down refrigerator. Hitting the switch on it, you hear something in another room move. You track the source of the sound to the manager's office, where you see a hatch in the floor has opened up, revealing a ladder leading down.

You climb down the ladder and find yourself in a very small bunker. Quickly searching the room, you find some leftover supplies, along with a skeleton holding onto a 10mm Pistol.

<I>
+1 10mm pistol
+11 10mm rounds
+2 Purified Water
+2 Cram

You leave the bunker, and head back out on the road.

As you walk down the road, you check your map...the next stop is Terra Alta, and that's when things are going to get dicey. Terra Alta is on the edge of the cloud layer. TelMo's below the cloud layer, and though the Minutemen have some sort of tech that lets them get rid of the fog in small areas, you're still going to be dealing with the fog and snow on the way in.

You make a decision that you should get a gas mask and some heavier clothes.

You keep walking, taking a stop to rest your feet, and as you stop you hear something approaching...

>35 out of 31: FAILURE!

You try desperately to hide yourself, only to snap a twig underfoot.

"Halt! Who goes there!" shouts a voice that, judging by the metallic echo, is from somewhere wearing a helmet.

You stand up and you don't believe what you are seeing. It's a knight wearing a full suit...made entirely out of bottlecaps. He's carrying a compound bow with steel cables for strings. He's nocked an arrow with a modified fusion core for a tip.

"Be you friend? Or be you foe?"

>"Friend, definitely friend!"

"Nuka? As in Nuka Cola?" you ask. "Verily," says Norman. "Though, as of late, we've been in search of a much greater beverage?"

>"Greater than Nuka Cola? I don't know, that stuff's pretty good."

"What made you look for another, erm... cause?" you ask.

Norman looks around, as if about to tell you a secret and wanting no one to hear it. "We are on a quest for a soda that is transcendent in flavor..." he says quietly. "A drink known only as 'Hank's Root Beer'. There's bottles of it scattered throughout the Big Dark, but legend says that somewhere below the cloud layer is a massive stockpile of Hank's."

>"That's a lot of effort to go through for some root beer."

"Yes," answers Norman. "I am just one part of the Knights of Nuka. Most of us are stationed to the southwest, in Boom Town."

"Anything I can do to help?" you ask.

Norman laughs happily. "That would be wonderful! Our steed broke down up the road, and we could use someone to cover us while we make repairs."

He leads you further down the road, where you see the 'steed'- an old Nuka Cola truck, with the wheels replaced with modified Sentry Bot legs. You see more people in bottlecap armor, as well as one in a suit of power armor with a Nuka Cola paint job. The one in the power armor turns looking at you. "Who is this, Norman?" he asks. Norman clears his throat. "This is a friend. He's agreed to cover us while we repair the Steed."

"Very well then," says the man in power armor. You climb up on the 'Steed', scanning the horizon for hostiles.

You dive off the side of the Steed, finding the grenade and chucking it over your shoulder back at the raider that threw it. There's the sound of an explosion and shrapnel tearing flesh.

The Knights cheer, having narrowly avoided a fiery death.

"Excellent work, friend!" cheers Norman. "You have done a great service to the Knights of Nuka this day!"

The Knight in the power armor approaches you. "Norman's right. Without your courage and quick thinking, we would've lost several Knights and the Steed. If there's anyway we can repay you..."

Tempting, but I am hesitant. It really is quite a big thing to ask off the bat... maybe if MC could frame it as a jest.

Anyway it could bite us in the ass since we don't have training for it, it will attract attention and we're going to be dependant on fusion cores.

(Whoops, must've been more tired than I thought...overslept.)

The Knights double check the doors on the Steed when they begin going under the cloud layer. You shiver, feeling the cold seeping in, and your PipBoy still clicks slowly. Norman seems to huddle up. "Dreadfully cold." he mutters.

After enduring the cold, you eventually hear your PipBoy go quiet. "We're getting close to TelMo." says Norman. Indeed, it's only a few minutes later when the Steed comes to a stop. The back door of the truck opens up, revealing the settlement of TelMo. Fog condensers line the road leading in, protecting TelMo from the mist.

"Here you go," says Norman. "Once again, thank you for saving our Steed."
