You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

"Where the hell did all of these squirts come from?!" Naru fumes as she finally climbs her way up the tower to reach you and Morgan. "Don't tell me they came with that Ozen freak."

You nod your head.

"Shiiiiiiiit." Naru groans. "And I thought just dealing with Nino was bad enough."

You shrug. You were pretty sure Ozen would have a pretty sturdy leash on her girls. You hope.

"Yeah, well, good thing I got some Guild quests to distract us from all this shit going here." Naru grumbles, waving a few scrolls in the air. "Wanna take a look?"

I'm assuming that Nino is making some friends with the Nuns who are around her age. Maybe Nino can teach them stuff about Magic, and the little Sisters can teach her how to use a sword?

You hold your hand out to Naru and she quickly takes the hint and drops the quest scrolls in your open palm. You open them up to view the contents.

GOBLIN EXTERMINATION: A Goblin den has been sighted at a previously cleared Ruin. They pose a potential threat to outlying settlements, requiring their removal.

PIPE CLEANING: There have been unusual blockages and leaks in Eisenwand's water supply. Several workers who have gone to investigate have not returned. Find, and if possible, eliminate the cause.

CARAVAN ESCORT: A caravan full of gold and other loot recovered from the Frontier is being shipped back to the Kingdoms. The caravan is asking for a strong escort to deter any banditry until they reach the border.

You pull out the scroll calling for assistance in the city's sewers and aqueducts.

"I was REALLY hoping you wouldn't choose that one." Naru groans.

"Well, just think of it as performing some public service." Morgan chuckles nervously.

You look to the both of them. Neither of them seemed particularly enthusiastic about a magnificent romp through ancient underground tunnels possibly infested with some fearsome beast!

"You look WAY too enthusiastic about a job like this." Naru fumes.

"Definitely." Morgan nods in agreement.

You nod in agreement as well. This was sure to be an exciting adventure!

Morgan and Naru both roll their eyes.

"Well at least it's close by..." Naru sighs.

A quick word and some light packing later, and you're all off to embark on your newest quest, heading to Eisenwand itself, funnily enough.

"OH, we get to see the Eisenwand sewers?!?!" Nino gasps, practically jumping up and down in excitement. "There's so much HISTORY down there!"

"Of course Nino is all up for it." Naru sighs.

"Of course." Morgan sighs in unison.

"Hey, it doesn't sound so bad." Niko laughs.

"How can you NOT be interested!" Nino turns around to the three companions. "Eisenwand was built atop one of the first discovered Ruins, and the largest! A massive system of underground tunnels and aqueducts that connect the city to vast underground water sources! A marvel of ancient engineering!"

"It's just a glorified sewer." Naru rolls her eyes.

"An ANCIENT sewer!" Nino insists.

Romulus barks.

"Oh don't you dare take THEIR side on this." Morgan scowls.

Romulus then whimpers.

"Which really sucks that they sealed off all the entrances." Nino pouts. "Guess they didn't want people poking around in there and getting the water dirty."

"Or there's something they want to hide!" Niko theorizes.

"THAT'S EVEN BETTER!" Nino squeals.

Morgan and Naru just shake their heads.

You were now nearing the sewer entrance that was listed in the Guild request. However, you're somewhat surprised to see-

You see Lucina waiting for you there, and she gives you a cheerful wave as you approach.

"I heard that you and your party picked up this quest and decided to take it as an opportunity to see you all." She grins. "Also a bit of an excuse to get out of the castle for once. My parents can be so dreadfully overprotective..."

"But other than that, why are you here?" Morgan asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Not many people know how to navigate the city sewers. At least not anymore." Lucina takes out a small map from her pocket. "This is one of the few maps we keep for a situation like this. It marks all the known routes."

You calmly take the map and stare at Lucina. Surely she didn't come out all this way just to hand this over...?

"You wanna tag along with us, Lucy?" Niko is the one to break the question you were thinking.

"W-what? Of course not!" Lucina coughs. "This something that is totally beneath someone of my royal stature...!"

Yep, not convincing at all.

You nod and Lucina's expression immediately brightens.

"All right, I'll take the lead then!" She says as she presses her hand against the wall. For a split second, you can see magical runes glow and the wall splits open to reveal a stairway going down.

Lucina then heads in, with all of you following. The stairway continues to go down, the way lit by the soft light of magical lanterns. Seems like this was going to take a while. Perhaps this was a good time to talk with Lucina?

You tap Lucina's shoulder, causing her to turn around.

"Yes, Templar?" She asks.

You mime a pair of elf ears with your fingers on either side of your helmet.

"Ah, you mean our new Elven guest?" Lucina sighs. "She hasn't done anything overt, but she's taken up indefinite residence in the Elven quarter and it's not like we can force her to leave. The air in the city seems to have become...different."

You tilt your head to the side, curious.

"The local Elven population seems to have become more withdrawn... cold." Lucina frowns. "I'm certain it's from Semiramis' influence, but I'm not sure if they're truly following her or being pressured into it."

"Don't think it matters either way to a Templar." Naru shrugs. "They'll probably just burn down the whole Elven Quarter."

"Please don't." Lucina groans. "The Elves are already talking about you in whisper, Templar. They even came up with a nickname for you."

Oh?

"Ashwalker." Lucina rolls her eyes. "I suppose it's rather fitting given your Order's history with the Elves."

"How about us?" Nino asks.

"Errrr, I don't think any of you are talked about as much. At least not yet." Lucina explains.

"No faaaaaair!" Nino pouts.

"Honestly better that way..." Morgan mutters.

You just shrug. You weren't going to repeat that.

"W-were we just hearing things...?" Naru mutters.

"I'm pretty sure I heard it." Nino frowns.

"W-well anyways, we're wasting time here!" Lucina quickly gets you all back on track. "Come along!"

You follow Lucina down to where the stairs finally bottom out into a large stone chamber with a vaulted ceiling. Along the ground, you could see channels cut into the stone, crystal clear water flowing through.

"All these channels are enchanted." Lucina explains. "No matter what the elevation or how they're oriented, the water will always flow to where it's needed. I've even seen areas where the water has flowed on the ceiling, if you could believe it."

"Coooooool." Nino says in awe.

"So humid down here..." Morgan mutters.

"A great place to test my water running techniques!" Niko proclaims.

"Now, the blockages seem to be originating from that tunnel." Lucina points to one of the many dozens connected to this chamber. You were impressed with her memory. "We initially thought it was a cave in or collapse of some sort, but with the disappearances we fear it may be something else, so be prepared for anything."

You nod and the rest of your party draws their weapons or are otherwise prepared to act.

"Let's go." Lucina says as she draws her sword, the enchanted blade glowing in the dim light of the sewer.

You just barely notice something wasn't right. A little tingle in the ground that you feel through your boots. An unnatural sensation in what should be solid rock.

The sickening feel of magic.

Your instincts kick in and you grab Lucina's shoulders, pulling her back just as a wall of stone slams down where she was previously standing. Best case it would have just separated her from the group, but worst case...

"A cave in?!" Lucina gasps.

"No, a golem spirit!" Nino yelps.

And just like that, you can see wall deform and shift into the vague shape of a hulking humanoid form.

A honest to Sol golem. A magical construct of animated stone and rock. An ancient and nearly lost art and few mages knew how to perform.

"Damn!" Lucina seethes as she gets up to her feet. "We're not prepared to face something like a golem! We need to run!"

And show your back to the enemy? All creatures had to have weaknesses, even if they were made of pure rock.

"All golems need a core to function!" Nino yells to you. "If you can pinpoint and destroy it, there won't be anything to bind it to its physical form!"

"Are you crazy?" Lucina grunts as she dodges a downward slam from the monster. "We don't even know if this is the only one!"

You stand your ground. A golem would be a might prize to gain glory and honor!

"Should've known!" Lucina groans. "All right, but we need to take this thing down fast!"

You quickly gauge the situation. Both you and Lucina were the most effective physical fighters present right now, with Niko providing support. Morgan and Nino were a ways behind you with Naru, providing ranged support. Perhaps it would be best to lure this golem into a position where it could be vulnerable?

Lucina manages to quickly dash away, her relative lack of armor giving her much greater speed than you. However, you manage, if only just barely, to roll away from the golem's sweeping punch, avoiding certain peril.

This brought both your backs to one of the water channels, but now the golem's back was turned to Morgan and Nino, giving them an opportunity to attack.

Nino, however, hesitates, wondering if was safe to use her full power in a place like this. If she accidentally miscast the spell...

Morgan lets loose a volley of arrows, but they clatter and bounce uselessly off the golem's rock hide. Obviously none had found their mark.

"My turn!" Nino cries as she finally casts her spell. Water from a channel behind her rises up, forming a number of floating icicles and shoot forward, spearing into the golem's body and slowing its movement.

"Now's our chance!" Lucina yells as her sword glows a bright, ghostly blue. "We have to expose its core!"

>Strike the golem's head. Perhaps it's in there.
>Strike the legs. Better to immobilize it further.
>Strike the arms. You need to prevent it from attacking.

It could always just tackle or kick otherwise.

If we can cripple it, we can then take our time finding the core.

You take aim for the golem's arms, now brittle and vulnerable. One good smash from the hammer end of your halberd should do it. Hopefully Lucina finds her mark, though. That enchanted blade of hers seems especially potent.

Your swing is might and true, your halberd smashing into the golem's left shoulder and causing the entire arm to shatter to pieces.

Lucina makes a simultaneous attack, stabbing her sword straight through the golem's face, going in one side and out the other. That's when you see a small crystal impaled on the tip of Lucina's sword a split second before it shatters.

And just like, the golem freezes in place, the magic that was animating it suddenly gone.

"You guys done yet?" Niko asks as she pokes her head out from her hiding place.

"Where the hell were you?" Naru glowers.

"Hey, my weapons aren't suited to fight something like that." Niko grunts as she defends herself.

"A golem down here..." Lucina frowns as she pulls her sword free. "This can't be some accident. Golems aren't naturally occurring creatures."

"Yep! Someone had to have summoned it here!" Nino says as she kneels down to inspect the small crystal fragments.

"What's the possibility of there being more?" Morgan asks, her eyes scanning the other tunnels.

"Well, golem cores aren't easy to make so there can't be that many..." Nino pauses. "But multiple golem cores are definitely a possibility!"

"This might be more than we can chew." Morgan looks to you. "Maybe we should call this off. Get proper authorities involved."

You decide it was best to proceed with the quest while someone headed back to get additional assistance. You consider the options.

Nino was immediately out. You didn't want to send her out alone, and her magic proved to be very useful against these golems. Naru likewise would be useful for her healing and support spells.

That left Morgan, Niko, and Lucina. Morgan and Niko's combat abilities were limited against these rock beings, but had good scouting skills. Lucina knew the tunnels down here, but she was a very important person, and the delve down here proved to be more dangerous than even she was expecting.

But either way all three of them could handle themselves if sent back.

You look to Niko.

Yeah, yeah, I'd figure it'd be me." Niko shrugs. "All right, I'll be heading off, now. Any particular people you want me to contact?"

Well, the most immediate parties could think of where Valentia and the Paladins, the Mana Knights, or Havel and Ozen back at the Monastery...

You point to Nino. It seems like the Mages would be the best bet to go to. Their magic would be the most effective against these golems.

"Gotcha!" Niko grins. "Don't you all go dying on me while I'm gone!"

And with that, Niko disappears in a puff of smoke.

"Well then, let's proceed." Lucina says, a very serious expression on her face now. "Let's go."

You, Morgan, Nino, Naru, and Romulus follow Lucina's lead deeper into the city's depths. You've barely entered and had to fight a golem. What else was lying in wait for you down here...?

I'm thinking that Niko's time to shine is if we ever have to infiltrate somewhere through clever use of disguise. Or she upgrades her arsenal with blackpowder.
