All rise, this court is now in session.

>Dante: That's right, this is another one of the recap and Q/A sessions. It's gonna be extended across several days, so there might be some actual story if we run out of questions.
>Faust: Which is good, because we have one for you: The Halloween dance is ever-encroaching. You wanna specify who you think Solomon should ask, link to the OP with your answer- and any other questions you have.
>Dante: Due to the nature of the format, the Judge has also decided to enforce a 10-minute reply window for combat rolls and a 15-minute reply window for non-combat situations.
>Faust: As much as he likes fudging rolls in your favor, he also has to stay honest. But let's cut the chit-chat and get down to some of the questions you might be asking.

Schedule is still usually Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7 PM to midnight CST. I've been up the creek schoolwork wise recently, so if there's an apology I can make to you guys, just request it..

>>What’s Sofia’s Monster
Sofia's is Thǫkk (the giantess who refused to weep for Baldr, Loki in disguise), representing her manipulative side and desire to become useful so people will always need her and she'll never be left alone. It's kind of a malignant growth from the fact that she never felt like she was validated enough no matter what she did, and the fact that exploiting someone's need of you is a great way to manipulate them.

>>2076112
>How are Solomon's friends back in New York doing?
Francis is doing fine. He's been coping well with his friend heading out of state, but he's a naturally well-adjusted person anyways and has joined a debate club. Lilina is also fine, but a little frazzled having to deal with Irene's hand-wringing. Irene is taking it the worst and has continued to worry about her ex. Olivia, Solomon's sister, is fine, even after her instrument accident.

>Why is the Witching Hour called that?
It used to be the domain of spell-caster-like mystics known as, well, witches. Myths were seen as an extension of the with's terrifying power or as their familiar.

>What's the relationship between Faust and Dante, exactly? Are they like a Persona/Shadow pair?
>Faust: Pft. As if.
>Dante: We're closer to a shoulder angel and shoulder devil thing.
>F:Less of a 'your repressed feelings and more 'your accepted two general approaches to something.
>D: Just trying to do the right thing.
>F: The right thing is overrated.

NOTE: Beatrice decided to take command to of the thread, and she sure took her sweet time doing it. Attribute any grammar issues to the black eye she refused to heal.

Behold, your lady Beatrice has returned! I have studied 'greentext' and requested the Judge do so for mine. As I am not used to such messaging boards, the Judge shall scribe my statements as is appropriate for his position.

>D: Sweet Jesus, she's here!
>F: Let's just hope she doesn't do anything- IS THAT MY PORN STASH WHERE DID SHE GET THAT
>D: I told you we should never have bought those magazines. Is the Internet not enough for you?
>F: Shut up, or she'll hear us!

Now, I shall answer your lowly questions. Do not expect me to do so at any speed other than my leisure, peons- while the Judge devotes his time to you, I only devote my whimsy.

>>2076229
>Rank the cast member by their power level. If there was, say, a tournament where they fight each other what would their respective rank be
Ah! The beauty of battle! As I am a ruler over power, I consider myself the ultimate authority on combat strength. Upon consideration, I have granted each member the rank I see fit:
>S Rank: Solomon and I
Solomon, though his determination and multiple-Myth use, has the capacity to equal or surpass me in power if trained properly, this being one of the reasons why I find him so... interesting.
Virgil would tell me I take after Mother, whatever that means.

>A Rank: Bennett, Ruth
Bennett's sheer experience and the versatile nature of his Merlin makes him a potent threat, able to analyze his opponents and find their weak points with ease. Ruth is similar to Solomon, and could be moved to S Rank if she ever exploited her natural power. I need to keep an eye on her, and determine why she does not choose to become stronger.
>B+ Rank: David
David gains a position above the other lowly allies due to his special augmentation. Against any of his B-Rank allies, he is a fair match, but against higher ranks, he has the capacity to fight toe to toe against presumably stronger enemies. His technological nature leaves him vulnerable to Bennett's Merlin, however.
>B Rank: Donna, Keith, Kenneth, Sofia
As much as I am tempted to place Sofia in C Rank, all of Solomon's allies have proven their ability to fight besides him as equals- if not in power, in friendship. In particular, Donna, who was formerly quite helpless, has grown so her Cordelia is able to combat as effectively as any other. I believe she will soon gain access to the instant death powers associated with darkness and light. Against one another, Donna defeats Keith due to his vulnerability, Keith is durable enough to defeat Kenneth, Kenneth deals enough damage to defeat Sofia, and Sofia surpasses Donna due to possessing healing powers.

>I need a quick summary of everything that's happened since the last recap.
>Session VIII - Hero Complex
After defeating Martinez's Monster using the repaired combat system, Solomon betrays my trust by flirting with women at a 'waterpark' and pimping out David to women there. I must obtain a swimsuit of my own.
>Session IX - Slippery Slope
It certainly is. I need an explanation from him as to why he spent time at Sofia's family's home. I don't care if there were other people there. Also, they spoke to the un-notable Mr. Clover, befriended Martinez, and peeked in on a meeting Bennett was at.
>Session X - Unconventional
He really needs to stop talking to Sofia the Harpy. An interesting interaction with Leroy Brown... Where have I heard that name before? More importantly, there is a conflict on the floor of Gluttony and the strange mechanical woman named Harpe appears.
>Session XI - Dinner and a Gunshow
Combat with the androids and an 'anime' convention. Nothing important happens, here, really.
>Session XII - Crunch Time
Read was injured? I will avenge your wounds! At least he was able to use the time to consider the more puzzling aspects of the situation he is in. Oh, and David was revealed to be mechanical.
>Session XIII- Unlucky Number
The group wtaches the game and converses more with Martinez, then notes that Bennett is seen near Sostrato Milani's death. The teacher claims the gangster attempted and failed to recruit him and had a heart attack of the anger. He also displays information on the Witching Hour and certain government conspiracies on hiding the Witching Hour.
>Session XIV - Expanding Reach (The Lost Episode)
A conversation with Ruth brings her and Read closer together as friends. Then, a badly-going battle with Kronos awakens latent powers within the group leader, allowing Faust and Dante to change places.
>Session XV - Newfound Power
I get my long-delayed ability to converse at length with Solomon, and enjoy his company. As much as I'm sure he adores me,
he was soon exhausted by my presence, as I'm quite energetic.

(Cont)
>>
>>2077017
>Session XVI - Overboard
Combat with the Student Council President's Monster, and more time interacting with the group, an additional increase of friendship with Ruth.
>Session XVII - Helping Hand
More time spent between Solomon and myself. It was quite enjoyable. Any rumors that I am in fact lonely and irritable as a result are lies and libel.
>Session XVIII - Shot in the Back
My first time fighting besides the group as a whole, against a particularly durable Monster created by David that required a group effort to defeat. David's resulting promotion from Joshua to Galahad was hard-fought.

Do you have any more questions for the time being? I have other things to do, you know.

>Why are you so interested in Solomon in particular?
Is it any surprise I find myself enticed by one of the only men with the capacity to match myself in power? I mean, I don't want to have a relationship with a relative weakling. Besides, he needs my help, and he's willing to help me learn more about the outside world. I also suspect he's a better person at heart than Faust suggests.
If I had to pick another target for my affections, any of the party members would be...sufficient. But while he's a captive audience of sorts, I might as well make it enjoyable for both of us.

>What do you think of the other party members?
Sofia is a total bore, especially as she's getting in my way. For the sake of civility, I will speak no more on her.
Keith is a darling idiot. He's good for entertainment value, at least. I would judge him to be the most physically powerful of the group, even more than myself.
David's desire to be kind to everyone is a bit tainted by the fact that his programming drives him to try to kill both myself, Solomon, and several others. I cannot trust him as of now.
Donna is interesting to be around, but she seems different from most humans I've met. Like me, she seems to have less understanding of human mannerisms than most.
If you want to know more about Ruth, I'd suggest asking my brother. She's quite sweet, if a bit wishy-washy, and she's understanding of other people. I think they make a good couple.
Kenneth is quite charismatic, but his body language tells me it's mostly an act. I suspect that once he gains more confidence in himself, he will achieve great things.
Bennett is an oddity. I don't trust him. He's too secretive.
You already know my opinion on Solomon.

>I think I know who your dad is. The Principal right?
The... Principal? This title... It must signify great power. Of course, my mother always said my father was powerful, but we could not meet him until we were ready. I feel ready now. I must learn more about how I came to be.Ta-ta for now.

>F: Is... Is she gone?
>D:I think so.
>F: Thank God. Let's hope she never comes back.
>D: Well, that seems to have derailed things. Let's consider something else, and hope she doesn't decide to come back.
>F: Ooh! I have these film rolls with interesting scenes on them. Perhaps we could run through one of them?
>D: They seem to be interactive. What could be in store, I wonder?

You lift up your baseball cap to get a better look at the lake. It's too damn hot out here to be fall. You enjoy the quiet, and adjust your life vest as you see Donna with her headphones on and frown. If she was just going to listen to music, why even bring the rod? She didn't even have one of her hands on it.
At least Ruth was fishing, and watching her bobber. She looked back out to her own. No bites yet.

Leaning back, you think about all the crazy things that have happened to you recently, and wonder if life will ever get back to normal. Sure, you have Pythia now, but something makes you worry you'll be fighting Curses until you're old and grey- that doesn't seem like a very interesting life, to you.

The boat is silent as it floats along. A little bit of Donna's music bleeds from her headphones, irritating you just a bit.

>(To Ruth) We've been out here for a while. Do you think we should pack it in?

"Yeah," Ruth considered the water. "It's somewhat relieving to get away from the constant pressure and schoolwork and Witching Hour stuff." Putting her hand in, she watched ripples move off of it. "Fate isn't kind to everyone."

"Did you say something?" Donna pulled her headphones off for a second.

"Just appreciating the silence," Ruth shrugged.

"I think it's boring," Price looked out over the water listfully. "I prefer being in Crescent City. So much to do. Like right now we could be browsing a bookstore or getting ice cream or looking for street performers."

"So why'd you come out here?" Ruth asked with a slightly bitter tone. "Clearly you don't enjoy it."

"Because you guys are here, and I like being with you guys," she shrugged.

Taken aback by this, Ruth looked slightly guilty. "O-oh. Right."

This provokes a set of rolled eyes. "Don't look so guilty. You only told me what you think."She picks up her fishing rod. " Everyone deserves to be taken down a peg if they get too selfish or crap like that. If I just went along with you because I didn't have a backbone, I deserve whatever I get." The rod twitches in her hand, and she does a double-take before beginning to reel the apparent fish in. "What the hell?" she mutters.

"Steady!" Florez changed tones from guilty to excited in a heartbeat.

You manage to get a hold on it before it tips out, though you're knocked somewhat off-balance.

>>Hey, you're rocking the boat!
Once the rod is secure, you grab the side of the boat and tilt to counterbalance the other girls' weight, preventing their sudden movement from sending you pitching into the water. After a few seconds of peril, the boat returns to normal balance- for a fish small enough to hold in the palm of your hand.

"Talk about anticlimax," Ruth grumbled. "This tiny little thing wasn't worth the time or excitement. It's not even three inches long."

"Heh, fishing as a metaphor for sex," Donna laughed, earning Florez's dismissive look. "Oh come on, just listen to the way you said that."

"Jokes aside," Ruth unhooked the fish and let it swim away, "It's been really hard for me to focus on schoolwork with everything that's been going on recently."

"Yeah, well, them's the breaks. You want to do supernatural adventure stuff, you put in the supernatural adventure time. Plus, you won't believe some of the crap I've found lying around in the Witching Hour." she leans back again. "I found a neon yellow lamp. Like, all of it was neon yellow and it gave off neon yellow light."

"Do you think it'll pay off?" Florez asked. "I mean, we don't know who's behind this or what their motives are. We could be in over our heads."

>>We could be in over our heads.

"I guess."
It's small comfort to your companions, and you go back to fishing a little uneasy. However, the more you think about it, the more you're sure. With good friends like this on your side, there aren't a lot of things that can stop you.
You soon forget about the danger you've been regularly facing, and your focus turns to catching a decent-sized fish this time, the worries of Crescent City far behind you.

AFTER SCHOOL, Thursday October 4th (Weather: Rainy. Forecast for tomorrow: Rainy.)
You're still getting over the bruising you got from Hercules giving you the mightiest kick you've ever seen, much less been on the receiving end of. Everyone else has gathered in Bennett's office, trying to figure out how to proceed. The tone is much darker, after what happened yesterday.

"I've reported Durandal as an attempted kidnapper." Walt declares, preparing for the inevitable outburst of questioning. "It's the only way we can be sure he doesn't try to get to you while you're in the classroom."

"How could he do this? Who is he working for?" Sofia wrings her hands.

"I don't know, I didn't get to wrack his brain," Bennett growls, obviously dissatisfied with the situation himself. "Or hard drive, I guess."

Kenneth breathes in deeply, asking, "How will this affect us?"

Donna is furious. crossing her arms and glaring at the floor. "I heard they're calling in police guards and removing curfew freedom."

"What else do you want us to do?" Bennett asks angrily. "I told you, if you got caught up in this, it was going to be dangerous. I can't get them to back off by claiming that I, a computer teacher who's barely held a gun, can protect the entire student body against a former Green Beret. Even though I can, they don't know that, and I can't tell them how."

The room falls silent again, and then David asks the teacher, "Then send me."

"What? Absolutely not." Bennett shakes his head. "I know you could probably take on Durandal in a fair fight, but-"

"My Monster took on both of the other droids at once, and if I had been backed up, it could probably have taken down Kronos. After all, I am designed to kill Multi-Users. He's got to be one, or close enough."

"I said no." He looks at the phone on his desk. "I'm not disbanding this group, because I'm sure you guys will do something behind my back if I do. But I'm going to do something I should have done a long time ago." He points at you specifically. "You guys don't do anything until I get back."

"What are you going to do?" Ruth asks, obviously expecting something drastic.

"Getting backup." he states cryptically.

---

Bennett lets you out of his office after that. "I'm still mad we lost curfew freedom. This sucks."

"It was necessary," Sofia defends the teachers' decision. "As bad as it could be, it could have been a lot worse if they succeeded."

"We're still no closer to figuring out who Kronos is, though," Kenneth thinks.

>>We're still no closer to figuring out who Kronos is

"Not too awful, actually," David grumbles. "I was fooled by someone who pretended to be Walt's fiancee, but that Walt confirmed to not be her. Whoever it was has met her at least once, so that they could copy her voice and basic mannerisms. Or knows me well enough for them to copy my image of her."

"Not good either way," Keith rolls his shoulder. "Look, I want to relax a bit and hope Durandal and that other bitch don't shoot me in the head as I sleep. If you're going to murmur about who's doing what, then do it on your own time. No offense. Besides, since it's raining, I haven't got to exercise for the day. I want to shoot some hoops." He walks off with hands in his pockets, but soon runs into someone.

"Good afternoon."

"Oh no, no fucking way." Allan stumbles back in shock and raises his fists. "How did you get here?"

Beatrice gives your group one of her charming yet sinister grins. "A little birdie whispered in my ear. It turns out I have a home here as well." She turns around to display her school uniform. "Doesn't it look wonderful on me?"

"What? Since when?" Sofia steps up to support Keith. "You just popped in here all of a sudden and forced someone to give you a uniform?"

"Forced? No. Unless you mean by familial obligations." She places a hand on her chest. "My name, it appears, is Beatrice Brown."

Donna is the first to respond. "Welp, I've seen everything," she walks past. "I'm just gonna play video games until the existential dread kills me."

"As in Leroy Brown?" Sofia nearly yells, her hatred for the Milani overwhelming her reasoning for a few seconds.

"Just gives me a reason to kick your ass," Keith mutters.

"Please, everyone calm down," Ruth shakes her head. "Could you please explain, Beatrice?"

"Well, your Principal, ruler of your domain, is my father. Which makes me... a Princess of sorts? A Princessapal?" Beatrice giggles.

"He's the principal of the school, not the ruler of the nation." Kenneth seems exasperated. "You know what, I'm just gonna start up that pickup game, Keith."

"No, I'm going with you. I'm not dealing with this," Allan goes with him to the gym, leaving you, David, and Ruth with Sofia and Beatrice.

"Well, I am!" Sofia steps up to the otherworldly woman. "Even if you are his daughter, you can't just barge in here and act like you own the place!"

"My, my. Territorial, aren't we?" your legal council hisses. David seems unable to process the situation, like his programming just froze up.

You're back in your room, and hoping that no-one decides to disturb you. Now's the time to consider things. And with Beatrice overstaying her welcome, you decide to pile your bookshelf and a few more heavy things in front of the door before feeling free to relax and unwind. So much has been going on that you just can't keep up with it. You hope things will eventually ease off.

You hope that's for the best, and go back to playing a bit longer.

>Try to research online. Does Principal Brown really have a daughter named Beatrice? Or a son named Virgil?
There isn't any history on those two specifically, but Principal Brown has been noted to have spent time with an alarmingly pretty woman in the past. Though all photos are low-quality or grainy, she seems to share a lot of features with the two you met in the Witching Hour- namely, her strange style of dress and behavior. You carefully push aside some of the stuff blocking the door after putting on your armor, holstering your firearm, and preparing the Ultra Greatsword.

When you do this, something occurs to you. They haven't kept on trying to enter after you moved everything away. They're just waiting. Holding the doorknob so that you're prepared for someone trying to enter, you look though the peephole and see David.
Wait, what the Hell?

>Check the texts. Maybe they can shed light on the situation.

He has a point.

When you let him in, he looks at you with a gaze that demonstrates extreme mental exhaustion.
"Sorry. I just need somewhere to stay overnight. I don't really need a bed like you do, just to make sure that nobody finds me while they're walking around during the night."

He simply sits down on the floor, leaning on one of the walls. "Does she act like this all the time?"

"Uh, sure. Like I said, I don't really need a bed like you do, but I appreciate the gesture."
You camp out on the floor and try to get to sleep. The rain helps, if only a little.

"Don't worry about it too much. After all, she was the one that really caused it, not you." He soon falls asleep, completely undeterred by the sudden inconvenience caused by the visitor. You wonder if he's too nice for his own good, then drift off yourself.

The next day, your back pain is soothed by the news that Beatrice's little stunt got her proverbial ear chewed off by the Principal, who ordered her to apologize to you and David. Apparently not used to getting her way, she attempted to throw a temper tantrum of sorts before being shut down. You weren't present for it, but gained a newfound, if limited, respect for the Principal.

"I apologize for taking advantage of your goodwill as hosts," she grumbles to your group with a blush.

"If you truly mean it, I accept it," David nods. "Just don't do that again. Please."

"Very well. If you have need of me, I have a room in the women's wing." She walks off in a huff, obviously still embarrassed.

"All's well that ends well," your android friend takes that as the end of this. "At least she learned her lesson."

Of course, he gets vanilla.
"The classics are always my favorite," he admits. "So much crazy stuff going on is right. You must be feeling the worst pressure of it because you're our leader." He thinks about the situation and looks out over the cloudy horizon. The streets are still damp from the rain and the varied sprinkling that's been going on for the day. "How do you deal with it? I mean, it must be exhausting."

This seems to fill the younger boy with strength, as if he enjoys being someone that can support others.

>Seems to me you've got more on your plate than I do. How do YOU work with it?
"Well, personally, I think about what's at stake. I think about everyone that's depending on us, and all that they've sacrificed to get us this far. My mother and father- my siblings, like Walt. People like you. I can't let myself fail while they need me fight beside them, or for them." Evelake clenches his fist. "I just can't find it within myself to surrender after thinking about everyone that depends on me. All the people that I've leaned on."

Then he becomes more somber. "In his story, Galahad received a special boon from God after achieving the Holy Grail. He was given the choice of his time of death. I always wonder why he didn't return to Camelot, when they were in their hour of need. He must have known. If anyone could have saved King Arthur, he could have." David chuckles. "Of course, the real reason is that Galahad was added to the Arthur mythos really late, as the latest in a line of even-better-than-the-last knights. But still, it raises questions. Some sources suggest that Camelot was doomed due to its own corruption and Galahad was right to abandon it. I don't understand how he could abandon his friends and his father like that."

He picks up another spoonful of ice cream and considers it. "Ah, I'm overthinking things."
Something about this is still bothering him.

Evelake breathes in and nods. "Yeah. It's just... You've got to have something to live up to, right? I'm not the sort of person who can live aimlessly. A role model is necessary for someone like me, and that means grappling with the difficult questions they've had to deal with. Training for the conscience, as it were. So that when I have to face a difficult question in the same vein, I have some idea of what to do. Ultimately, it's still my decision to make, but... You know what I mean."

David still seems somewhat uneasy, but his self-confidence seems to have been bolstered by your support. He seems to be more focused now.

You spend some more time talking with David about common subjects. However, there are several important events coming up, such as the homecoming game, which you'll need to be in top shape for. Now might be a good time for some last-minute training and weight-lifting- and the best teacher for this besides your actual coach is probably Keith. And then there's the eventual play. But before the play is the dance, and you really hope Beatrice doesn't decide to go overboard there. She's overstayed her welcome as it is.

This weekend and the week ahead will be a trial as well, though less in terms of combat. Hopefully.

Well, this is a fantastic situation you've managed to get yourself in. The most obvious problem is that there's no way to get out of this without pissing off Beatrice. If you go with her, she'll take this as a precedent which will probably lead to a lot of pain down the road. On the other hand, you could have all that down-the-road pain now. Sofia also seems to be pretty protective of you, which is admittedly a nice feeling, except that she's no match for the legal counsel's pure power.

However, there is good news. The Principal is the one person Beatrice respects and/or fears enough to take his word at law. So all you have to do is keep everything within his line of sight and there's nothing the hormone-crazed dynamo can do about it. Still probably easier said than done, but it's something.

You could have asked David to go with her in your place, but after all the crap you've put him through in recent times, you don't have the heart to do it. The next obvious answer is to go stag and pretend like that's not a big deal. Maybe Beatrice just doesn't know enough about human customs enough to challenge your decision on it. You hope.

Probably the most high-risk, high-reward option is to deliberately go with Sofia or someone else, such as one of the chicks you got the number of at the waterpark. Sure, it might be suicidal, but if you form a strong enough front, she might take you seriously and back down. Of course, that would start the precedent that you and Sofia are an item... It's just one big headache. High school drama is painful.

The plot thickens. Right now I'm with family for the holidays, so I'll post on Twitter when I'm next able to follow up, hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday night. Depending on how that turns out, I may make a new thread.
Right now, the group is tending towards going stag/sitting out the dance. We'll come back with the homecoming game and anyone that has a crisis of conscience can switch sides after/during that. Unless that happens, I'm considering this the final results.
>>
The homecoming game. You're backup pitcher for when the captain gets tired. The Bertrain Eagles are your opponents, selected for the football team to blow out and look good for the yearbook- their football team is new and undermanned, so they're gonna get run over. Unfortunately, these guys DON'T have an understaffed baseball team, and they mean business. You're gonna have to pull together everything you've got to beat them. The coach gives you the standard pep talk and you break, heading to the dugout.

---

You guys are behind 2-1, with two innings to go. Olympia goes last, though so there's always the come-from-behind opportunity. Walker signals to the coach that he's getting tired, and Moore calls a time-out. "Time to show up, Read," your coach slaps you on the back encouragingly. Walker's gotten you an out in this inning, so you need to get two more. However, when the Eagles' coach sees you brought in, he pulls a pinch hitter in. Apparently, he's prepared for your change-out. You feel honored.

This guy is big, but not huge like Keith. He also didn't show up on the films you guys watched on the opposing team. You recognize his name, though- he's a player on their team. Some sort of black-horse batter? Nobody's on base, so you've got that going for you.

As the batter swings, you get the feeling you were right. He's just here to try and get the best result off of the replacement pitcher, and he doesn't actually know how you pitch.
A strike.
The next pitch, he hits the ball, and your heart jumps into your throat. However, you regain your nerves when the hit turns into a foul ball. An outfielder tosses it back to you, and you regain your focus. You notice that your friends that aren't playing on the team have showed up to watch. David gives you a thumbs up, and Beatrice and Sofia sit next to each other in quiet. Seems they've made up, or at least resolved to tolerate each other.
Snapping back to your senses, you pitch a third time. Ball.
The fourth time, the ball barely slips in your hand, the change so small you notice it too late. You immediately tense up, preparing for him to drive it straight to you.
>(10, 6) + 3 = 19 (SUCCESS)

Incredibly, it seems like that also worked in your favor, as he read your pitch a little too slowly and expected the ball at a different position. You're sure a correct pitch would have worked, but the slip made the difference even larger.

With the first man out, you move on and pitch to the next one, who sends up a pop fly that's easily caught by midfield. Two outs.

---

You're on third base. One out, men on first and third (you). Last inning, last shot. Still down 2-1. Martinez is up. He's nervous- really nervous. The coach is sending you a half-hearted signal to steal home, raising two fingers but it seems like every time he holds it up he immediately lowers it. You're starting to get frustrated wondering what's up. Everyone's on edge. As the pitcher winds up, you're gonna need to make a decision, whether Coach Moore does or not.

You relax and focus on preparing to run when Martinez goes. Kenneth steels his own nerves, and steps up to bat. Something happens on the defensive side, however. Everyone is still expecting one of you to run. Since you're relaxing, the focus changes to first base. So when first base dashes right after the pitcher moves through his release, the bleachers go bonkers. One second of split attention from the pitcher costs him a lot, as Martinez spots the moment of weakness and puts his back into the swing.

>(10, 5) + 3 = 18 (SUCCESS)

The ball flies into the backfield and you almost think it's going to be an out, but the outfielder moved up just a bit before the pitch, and it cost him the catch. The ball rolls, but you're crossing home base before you can really process what happened. First base heads to third, and you feel like it's going to go into overtime. But no, he barely makes it, as Kenneth keeps safe on first.

Moore has some choice words for the other runner, beginning with an audible-from-the-benches "Jesus CHRIST Rick, what the HELL were you thinking?" but after his grumbling tirade, he sends Keith up to bat. You relax as a double to left field clinches the game for you.

---

You, Keith, and Kenneth shake hands with the Eagles after the game and then relax. "Sorry, but we're not going out because of the curfew rule change," Coach Moore apologizes. "Only a temporary thing. I'll order pizza or something to make it up to you guys." He also gives the guys a concerned glare. "Good job out there, but please. Make good decisions during the dance- and after it. Now's no time to screw everything up."

Martinez waits for most of the team to disperse before taking you and Keith aside. "I'm not going to the dance- there's a party this weekend I'm planning on sneaking out to instead. I'm sure we'll be done in time for midnight curfew. You were planning on playing basketball, right? This'll be better than that, I'm sure."

"Sorry," Allan shrugs in apology. "I've got a date."

(You feel your relationship with the Hero will improve soon.)
>A date Keith? You for real?
He gives you a glowering look for suspecting him, and mutters, "Yeah, really. It's sort of..." Allan coughs. "Some secret admirer crap. I'm not really sure it's not some sort of joke, but if it is, I'm planning on beating the hell out of whoever decided to stand me up." He stops and mentions, "I'm going to meet her at the gym we work at later tonight. Apparently she found out what my locker number is. And in case I'm getting catfished, I'm bringing my gloves."

Before you meet up with the rest of the group, he adds, "I want you to come along, if that's okay. I'm honestly suspecting that this is a trap after everything else that's been going on."

Sofia is the first to speak. "You both did well." She hands you each a standard-sized sports drink. "I didn't know what type of flavor you guys liked, so I just picked the first that was there."

"It was illuminating to see how many forms of ritual combat humans are capable of," Beatrice smiles.

"Baseball is not a form of ritual combat," Donna grumbles, shivering. "Also, it's too cold out here."

"Is that really true, though?" David considers. "The combat thing, not the temperature. I think it's approximately 61 degrees Fahrenheit, not accounting for wind chill."

"Thanks," Keith takes the drink. "Well, I was planning on picking something up from my gym locker tonight, before it gets too late."

"You shouldn't go alone, given what's been going on," Sofia warns him.

---

You find your way to Bill's Weights and Boxing, and find only a few men there at this hour. Keith makes his way to his locker and begins to wait, buying himself and you a drink while he does so. After about ten minutes after the time they were supposed to meet, a frown slowly begins to form on his face, and he sighs.

Suddenly, the door opens, and a very short woman wearing a hood looks around before revealing her face. You can't believe it when you see her, and suspect it's a mistake at first. Keith's disappointment slowly turns to outrage. "You know, I really should have expected you. What was I thinking otherwise?" He rolls his eyes and almost walks past her, but she grabs his arm.

"Please, wait. Keith, it's not what you think."

"Then what is it?" Allan's voice cracks as he struggles to remain calm. "You set this up as a joke, and now you show up feeling guilty about it."

"I... Just... I wanted..." The girl turns crimson and holds up her hands in defense. Tears slowly begin to run down her face.

"I can't believe you. Don't ever talk to me again, you BITCH!" He shakes her off and storms into the night, attracting the attention of the gym for a few seconds before they go back to their workouts.

Allan alarms you by putting a visible dent in the plastic exterior of the vending machine, having punched it with all of his might. The sound is like a thunderclap at point blank. He's crying, and his whole body is shaking with pure rage. It's clear he wants nothing better to go back inside and tear Donna apart, but his conscience is preventing him from hurting her.

He clenches his fist again. "I suppose you want to explain this, too. Come up with some reason why I shouldn't kick her ass until... until she regrets it." His eyes bloodshot with tears, he looks at you with deadly seriousness. "Okay. Let's hear it, smart guy. Explain it to me. Make me fucking feel better!"

After a few seconds of considering your statements, Keith simply looks at the ground. All of his energy seems to have been drained from him by the baseball game and now this. "Solomon, just... Go away for a bit, would you? I'll talk to you again when I'm ready. Donna was crying too, talk to her."

You're filled with a feeling of great dread. Was there anything more you could do? Have you said something wrong? You don't have any of those answers as you open the door and Donna runs past you. She runs into Keith and throws her arms around him, which barely shifts him given their weight difference. She seems to be muttering something you can barely make out.

Immediately moving to stop them from fighting, you realize that Keith is dully embracing Price as well, closing his eyes. He lets out a deep breath. You're confused and at a loss towards what to do. Reading the mood but coming up empty, you eventually feel like you should leave them alone.

---

It's the day of the dance. You hope Keith and Donna have resolved their fight. Neither of them has texted you. Pacing in your room to work off your tension, your worrying is cut off by someone at the door.

"Greetings!" Beatrice calls out. "You will be attending the dance with me, I assume. This seems like a better option than playing basketball. After all, you will be alone, or with relative strangers. I wish to get to know you better. If you are not willing to guide me through this human ritual, I will acquire David's services."

Beatrice is in a long red slinky dress and raises an eyebrow when she sees you in your casual clothes. "I don't understand." Brown is frowning when you let her in. "Why are you so resolved not to participate in the homecoming dance? Isn't personal intimacy a critical component of the human experience? Even if not physically, you must desire the company of another. Even the two adversarial companions have been brought together by shared affection."

When you ask her to explain, she giggles. "Isn't it obvious? The unlikely couple of Allan and Donna." Beatrice taps her chin. "I understand humans often portmanteau names of romantic partners they support. So that would be... Donnallan? Allanna? They have not engaged in physical intimacy, to my knowledge, but they seem to be currently romantic partners, or at least dance partners."

Strength rushes back into your body as you realize your support has helped the two reconcile their differences and connect with each other. Suddenly, the tightness in your chest dissipates... and changes.

Thou hast reforged a bond with the power of the common man.
The Orphan returns to your side.
Families serve to both support and restrain...
...This is also a part of you.
Thou hast reforged a bond with the power to see the truth.
The Sage returns to your side.
Facts serve to both enlighten and dehumanize...
...This is also a part of you.

As you're filled with elation, Beatrice takes this advantage to push you onto your bed and lean over you. "While I share your joy in seeing your friends gain happiness... I'm certain you would prefer living in a non-vicarious fashion."
You stumble to make excuses and push the increasingly predatory girl off of you...
