Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: The outdoor stage at the newly modernized grass temple on Tabo Island.

Recently: You thwarted attempts to ruin the show and dressed up all pretty-like.

Your whole body shuts down for a moment. No, wait, it’s still doing it’s thing, it’s just confused because your brain is no longer giving it instructions.

“I-I-I-”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to say anything.” She can’t seem to raise her head to look directly at you. “Sorry I’m putting you on the spot. I um, since I’m putting it all out there, I’m just glad I’m with you at all. If you told me you wanted to keep me a secret, I would have been fine with that. I know how pathetic that sounds, but, well, you know. Laki says I’m strong, but I think she’s wrong about how. I can endure a lot. So don’t worry about putting me last. I can take it. I’m actually happy to. I’m not good at much but I can endure anything, but that makes me feel useful. But you went and did this for me. Herb, you’re just too perfect.“ She throws up her hands. “Not that I mean that as an insult!”

“Hana.” Your mind is swimming. You want to say so much in response, but there’s one thing that rises above everything else. That says everything. “Hana.” You bring her chin up. “I love you too.”

She tries to say something but just makes a weird noise.

“But, I uh, didn’t know about your birthday.”

She exhales. “Oh.”

“Are you okay?”

“I’m super embarrassed.” She confesses. “I just blurted my guts out all over you. But I’m so relieved. Like, wow! The bar was feeling pretty high there for me to live up to.” She once again throws up her arms. “Not that I mean you’re bad for not knowing or anything. Trust me, that’s fine. I mean, especially after everything I just said. I-” She almost trips as she stops herself from rambling. “Wait, why are you in drag?”

You explain about the fashion show. She pays attention, but she’s also clearly distracted by your getup.

“Hana! Come on. You’re going to the after party, right?” A cast member runs up, sweaty and excited. “This whole thing was thanks to you. And we don’t do a lot of parties in our branch so it’s a rare treat.”

Hana awkwardly shakes her head. “I’m not really the party type. And I didn’t do that much. It’s easy to sit back and watch while everyone else does all the work. I’m just going to take my Her-... her,” she grabs your arm, “back to our room. It was great working with you.”

The boy insists she did a lot, and that she can even invite her hot friend, you. She declines again.

Where else do we have to be tonight? I’m worried I’m forgetting something.

You lead Hana away with some body language. She seems relieved. As time goes on you feel increasingly vulnerable and strange in what you’re wearing. Still, there’s a strange high from hearing Hana say she loves you, and saying it back. It’s like you both don’t want to comment further on it for fear of ruining it.

“Thanks.” She says. “I’m exhausted. I thought I’d feel like never letting go when it was over, and I sort of do, but at the same time I just need some downtime.” She says softly as you make your way down the hall. She opens the door room and leads you in. “M’lady.”

“Your what?” You’re confused.

She giggles. “Sorry! Sorry. But you do look great. Enough to make the case for me to try wearing makeup after all.” She takes out her pokedex and sits on the bed. There’s a little attachment on it. “I got a movie player for it. It’s a birthday gift from my, well, I guess you’d call them foster parents. Sort of. It’s complicated. They sent it by Delibird. “Want to stay in and watch something? Or are you busy? It sounds like there was a whole thing with that event.”

“I’m sorry, but I’ve got to expose the person behind those attempts. First your play and then the fashion show? I’ve got to do something.”

“One, that’s super hot when you’re fired up. Two, I’m coming with you.”

“Hana. You just told me you’re exhausted. It’s okay. Stay in.”

“Psh. I also said I love you.” Her voice cracks halfway through that sentence, like she didn’t want to draw attention to it. “I won’t say no to most anything, but I’m putting my heavy metal foot down here.”

Hana is hard to figure sometimes, but that’s part of why you like, -love-, her. You remember how even when you first met, she was throwing herself in front to protect people. It makes you worry, but you can’t exactly say anything considering your own track record. Plus, you don’t really think it’s dangerous. It’s worse, It’s socially awkward. You have to confront someone! In a dress! “Okay.”

The two of you head out, determined. You keep your pokemon in their balls for now not to give yourself away.

“Gosh you’re hot.” Hana whispers from behind as she follows.

“Huh?” You’re taken out of your thoughts

“So what’s the plan?” Hana coughs.

“I hate to say it, but I don’t think he’s done causing trouble. I bet he’s doing something right now.” You turn and head towards the fashion show. Walking in these shoes is way harder than it looks.

You arrive with Hana, still in her flannel shirt she was wearing while directing. It looks comfortable. You’re a little jealous.

When you arrive, Hana’s eyes explode out of her head. “This is what they’ve been up to?”

“Pretty much, yeah. Laki and Abigail are somewhere around here too in their dresses.”

“Happy birthday to me.” She whispers, looking around.

Good idea. You keep your eyes peeled for trouble too. You notice some eyes on you but try to ignore it.

The fashion show has ended, but there’s still loud music and chatting around tables, and the Beauty Branch girls are really flirting it up with all the visitors. Nothing too forward, but even you can read the atmosphere here.

You keep looking around for trouble. You look at the table legs, dress seams, lighting fixtures, anything that could be sabotaged. But there’s nothing you can see. You sigh, wondering if maybe you just got worked up.

You let yourself relax and check out the dishes. You helped prepare some of the basic parts of them, but seeing it all come together is nice. You approve of how that side dish looks. Oh, and that’s good too.

There are some important looking people at the head table, not being flirted with. You guess they’re too dignified for that sort of thing. The guy in the middle has a very elaborate headdress that wobbles a little when he acknowledges the server bringing him his salad. The man you saw using the Oddish is next to him. Wait, that’s an odd plant in that salad. You helped work on the salad too, and you don’t recognize that at all.

But the agriculturalists wouldn’t sabotage their own food, would they?

You decide to step up and say hi. You’re going to just casually ask about the plant.

“Miss.” The man who owns the Oddish acknowledges you briefly. The important looking man in the middle also offers the slightest hint of a nod.

Oh right. You bow deeply and mentally prepare your voice. “I’m sorry to interrupt. It’s just that I don’t recognize that plant.” You point at the salad.

“It’s lettuce.” The oddish man says dismissively.

Oh that burns your brisket. You can stand a lot, but you’re already on edge at the possibility of someone messing with food. You keep a polite smile despite yourself. At least this is better than feeling awkward. “I mean, the plant under that.”

An ornate fork stabs into the lettuce and plant, but as you point out the plant, the man in the headdress who was about to eat it stops to examine it. He squints for a moment before recoiling.

“Durin berry leaf!” The oddish man says, loudly and theatrically. “I was just about to point that out to you. This is an outrage, serving you something you’re allergic too!”

The man in the headdress just stares.

“But how could it have gotten in there?” The Oddish man continues. He’s got a distinct red streak in his hair that seems to almost flare with his speech. “Our chefs wouldn’t even have it. It’s not grown by our branch. In fact, you’d only find it by foraging deep in the forest!” He takes a moment to let that sink in. “Could it be? I can’t bear to say it, but could someone from the Conservationist group have tried to sabotage our meal to you? I understand they’re desperate to gain face, but that would be too far! And yet...it was a Beauty Branch girl who brought your plate out! Oh, I shudder to think what would have happened if we,” he stands next to you now, “hadn’t spotted this dastardly plant.”

“Lukau.” The Beauty Branch leader approaches. “You’re making an awful lot of implications.”

“It pains me to, but as you’ve seen with our successes in the recent growing seasons, vigilance trumps a careless attitude. It brings me no joy to point out how little control you’ve had over your girls of late. I understand they’ve taken to attempting to stealing some poor mainlander boy’s underwear.”

She narrows her eyes.

“That wasn’t the only sabotage attempt today.” You mention. You don’t know why you’re doing the voice. You guess you don’t want to distract from the issue at hand.

“We don’t have time for your chatter, young miss.” He tries to wave you off. But the man who almost ate the plant wordlessly motions him to back off and for your to continue.

You explain about the Oddish and the perfume. The man looks to the Beauty Branch leader.

“It was contained before it could cause any problems. I did not want to start a panic.”

He seems satisfied with that answer. He looks back to you. He hasn’t said a word so far, and you wonder if he’s mute or that’s just how he is. You interpret his look as a gesture to say what else you want to say.

“I think you put that plant in the salad to frame the others.” You accuse him straight out. A few people are watching now, and they audibly react.

“That’s a gross accusation young woman. I wonder who put you up to it.” He stands up straight. “I assume you have proof.”

You hesitate for a moment. You look around and see all eyes on you.

“You knew about his allergy. Did anyone else know about it here? Did you?” You ask the Beauty Branch leader.

“No. I did not.”

“That’s it?” He looks slightly relieved. “I think we’ve wasted enough time with this meddling girl.

“And there’s the motive. Who else has to gain from these events going poorly? It only makes sense.”

“It also makes sense that you’re simply covering for incompetence. A Mareep slept on set because the director got too ambitious and worked her crew too hard. We all extend ourselves beyond our abilities when we’re young.”

Hana looks down.

“I saw you!” You shout. “I followed the Oddish and it led back to you!”

“That’s impossible.” He says, clutching his pokeball.”

The man in the middle slams his hands on the table, and motions for him to release his pokemon. After some hesitation, he complies, and Oddish appears.

The man looks down at Oddish and whispers. Oddish freezes up, looking at it’s master for direction, squeaking.

He sweats. “I deserve a judgement by my peers. Nothing she’s said can be verified! Oddish is just confused and nervous and saying what she thinks you want to hear.”

“Oddish told me nothing.” The man stands tall. “She is loyal. But you’ve given yourself away.”

He stutters for a moment, then hangs his head in shame. He slowly walks out of the silent room. He turns back one last time and looks at you, and something in his mind finally clicks. Did he recognize you?

The man then turns to you and offers a short bow. “I’d like to know your name. You should be recognized. You’re as observant as you are beautiful.”

He looks to others. "She does not speak. Have I offended her?" He doesn't seem very familiar with mainlanders.

You’re stuck for a moment. You don’t want to lie, but this is a really embarrassing situation. You approach quickly. Faster than you intended, really, just because you’re so nervous. You’re almost stopped, but you’re just short of actually touching him as you lean up and whisper who you really are, and why you’re crossdressing.

“...I see...” He seems more confused than anything. He glances between you and the Beauty Branch leader.

She just raises her eyebrows in a sort of smug, self-satisfied way. You guess she’s proud of how convincing her girls made you. If you were ever even partially enjoying the attention you were getting, that sensation is gone. You really don’t want so many people looking at you right now.

He looks back at her. “Then I’ll trust you to see that this young...person is recognized appropriately.”

“It would be my honor.” She bows, revealing a heavy view of her cleavage. Somehow, she looks incredibly classy doing it.

He excuses himself, but makes a point of mentioning how otherwise fine the meal was, and asks someone to pass that onto the cooking staff. You feel a small tinge of pride.

The event seems to wind down a bit. The Beauty Branch women asks you to be available briefly tomorrow morning, and has to chase after her girls before you can really talk.

“That was easier than I expected.” Hana says.

You have to agree. You guess you were pretty vigilant before, and it paid off now. She takes you by the arm.

“So, how do you feel?”

It’s an open ended question. You’ve been running around in this dress and dealing with this or that for awhile now. Is she asking because she knows you're sensitive about your masculinity? Is it just making conversation? Do you look tired?

“Pretty good. I mean, we stopped a big problem, right? I don’t know how serious his allergies were but anyone that messes with food needs to be stopped.”

She smiles. “That’s good. So I guess you’re pretty comfortable, then?”

“Oh. No. Not really.” You catch a glance of yourself in the mirror. “I want to get out of these clothes.” You're equal parts very humiliated and emasculated, but also disturbingly pretty and comfortable. Either way, you want out.

“Okay.” She smiles. It’s not the reaction you were expecting. Not that you intended to provoke anything, but when the words left your mouth you realized she might take it a different way. She looks sweetly understanding. She leads you back to the room.

-

“I’m looking for a hot little blonde. No, a different one.” Laki drags Valerie around by the wrist, asking passers by about you. Valerie, who used to be flustered by this sort of thing, seems to be more endeared by it today. They both get the same wide-eyed expression when they see you. “There he is!”

Hana explains what happened for you. She gets some details wrong about parts she wasn’t there for, but you’re too distracted from wanting to get in. Laki and Valerie end up going to Keira’s room, explaining they’re going to stay up with her and Abigail for awhile. Keira’s out right now chatting with the High Priest, but she’ll be back. Laki and Valerie both keep staring at you as they disappear into the room, though. Laki is about to take a picture when Valerie lightly smacks her hand.

Hana opens the door to your room, ushering you inside. You’re thankful to get a chance to change. As you get in and kick off your shoes, she loads up the movie on her pokedex. You glance at the clock and see that it’s still her birthday.

You’ve always had issues with your masculinity. This whole ordeal has brought them out. You’ve been avoiding thinking about it too much, but you can’t ignore it any more. You close the door and turn to Hana. Tonight, you’re going to show Hana that you’re a man.

Just as soon as you get this mascara off.

-

You and Hana get dressed and join the others for breakfast in their cramped but cozy room. Hana is still in a bit of a daze. She didn't properly re-attach her arm and it comes off when she tries to open the door. She lazily puts it back on the right way and doesn't even seem to care.

Valerie looks as tired as you are.

“Are you okay? Did you have trouble sleeping?”

Laki throws her hands up. “Don’t look at me. I feel asleep early and slept like a Snorlax.”

Valerie sips her coffee. “I’m a light sleeper.” She explains.

“She heard you guys banging.” Abigail says, stealing a fruit off of Valerie’s plate. “I think the whole island did.”

Valerie hides her face. Laki just puts an arm around you like a frat buddy. “Now you’re getting into it. Just evenly distribute that and you’ve got it.”

“Laki!” Valerie looks so embarrassed.

Laki keeps squeezing you tightly. “You’re going to make it up to me for pulling that and vanishing on me.”

Valerie leans in. “We didn’t really get the whole story. It was Hana’s birthday so we uh, gave you privacy.”

“And pretended we didn’t hear you guys trying to break the walls.” Abigail interrupts.

“Yes. Well, I’d like to hear the rest.”

“You want to hear more?” Abigail laughs. “~Oh Herb! Right there!~” She imitates Hana. “~Oh yeah! Ju-” Laki’s hand covers her face and she takes the subtle hint to stop.

“More about why you were dressed up.” Valerie asks.

You explain, in detail, that you were helping with the fashion show. You and Valerie end up actually talking about the finer points of the dress and just that sort of thing in general. Laki watches closely, like she’s realizing how similar the two of you can be for the first time.

It’s nice to catch up. Valerie, now that she’s had time to unwind, is just pleasant to talk to in general.

They explain that Keira and Jane are off talking religion. Everyone seems a little weirded out by that but gave them space.

You still have a bit to do this morning, as much as you’d like to talk fashion with Valerie all day.

You decide to the Beauty Branch leader first. It’s a good idea to take care of that before doing anything else. Valerie volunteers to come with you so you can keep talking. Hana comes with, but she’s just happy to follow and listen.

“Young Herb. Hana.” She stops what she’s doing and turns to you, quickly exchanging bows. She squints for a minute, eying you up and down. “You desecrated the temple with carnal acts. I can see it as easily as I see the sunrise.”

You freeze up. “I-I-”

A hint of a smirk touches her face. “Please. You wouldn’t be the first.” she stretches. “And there’s no prohibition for non-clergy. You’ll have to forgive me. There is a prohibition for my girls and I spent the better part of the night making sure they didn’t lapse in their vows. The event was a success, but I won’t be doing that again any time soon without more chaperones.” She bows to Valerie next. “The temple is grateful for your help.”

“It was my pleasure.” Valerie bows back. “Excuse me, but isn’t that the temple leader’s amulet?”

“Ugly, isn’t it?” She sighs. “I suppose you’ll hear soon enough. Koa has stepped down. Tokowi declined taking up the position, and so here I am.”

“He stepped down?”

The older woman arranges a table cloth and works on the room. You’re only barely aware of how good she’s making it look despite the mess. “Just from leadership of the temple. He said the Agricultural Branch needed to find it’s roots again. He thought that was funnier than it is, of course. After last night, nobody would dispute it.” She stops herself for a second to clarify. “That they need to take time for introspection. I very much dispute that Koa is as funny as he thinks.” She lights a few candles. Bella, who was following her closely, leaps back from them and bumps into Sorbet. There’s a sudden panicked scramble.

“Wait, you there. Ice pokemon.” She calls out. “You’re perfect. Please, give us the lightest spray of ice you can.”

Sorbet is confused, but after checking with you, complies. The light sprinkle of ice up into the air reflects the candlelight.

“Perfect. Now, I’d like to officially present you with a shard for your contributions. Hold out your hand.”

Not knowing what else to do, you comply. She places it in your palm and closes your hand for you. She repeats the same for Hana.

“How would you like to be remembered?” She asks, gesturing to a mural on the wall with three branches.

You ask about more details, and she explains that you could have a small patch added to the beauty quilt, a tree planted in your honor, or have a specific inclusion for a food prayer this year.

“A tree sounds nice, but I think I’ve made those guys do enough work on my behalf.” Hana says. “The food prayer, please.”

“You know, you’ve been quite the inspiration for some of the more reserved conservationists. You should be proud.” She bows to Hana. “The food prayer is quite the honor. It’s said to bring great bounty to you for the year or more.”

Hana’s caught off guard from the compliment. She doesn’t say anything until Dice rolls into her leg. “Oh. um, good.”

“And you, Herb?”

“The tree!” You say, a little too excitedly. You just think it’s so neat! “What kind is it?”

She smiles. “It depends on your personality. For you, I’m sure it will be something that produces fruit. You’ve got quite the fertile aura.”

“Thanks!” You beam.

“And Valerie. You were a great help. I’d like to include you in this next part.”

“Next part?”

She lifts a box out from under a table. It’s loaded with TMs, stones, and other items. “The agriculture branch though people would respond more to material gifts. I think that cheapens things. It’s making memories and inspiration that truly matters. We gave some away during the awards, but there’s still some left over. Each of you is welcome to one.”

You all look inside. There’s a lot here! A lot of duplicates, too, so you aren’t worried about taking something one of the girls would want.

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)

You check out the box for a bit, weighing your options. At the end, you decide on the Absorb Bulb.

“Its nice, isn’t it?” The Beauty Branch leader comments. “Grown right here. If it’s any good, it should absorb a water attack and give the pokemon a little boost.”

“You know a lot about battling.” Valerie says.

“I was young once too.” She says, inspecting what Hana and Valerie chose. Hana has a small battery, and Valerie got a blue scarf.

“You still look it.” Valerie comments. “You can’t be that much older than us.”

“You won’t earn a shard that way, young lady. But don’t stop.” She laughs. Valerie laughs.

You stay a little longer as a small conversation gets going about the scarf, and fashion in general with Valerie and the leader. You let time slip a little, until you notice how bored Hana and your pokemon are getting. Huh, especially the pokemon. They look restless. You guess they could use some exercise at some point soon.

You decide you’ll do some training and battle Laki. You do owe her a battle, now that you think about it. You knew something was bugging you. You bow and leave the leader and Valerie, who says she’ll catch up in a bit.

“Laki!” You burst back into the room with her. She’s got her nose in a book. You lean forward and see it’s on pokemon abilities.

“What’s up, Soft Hands?” She’s surprised at your energy and puts it away. She’s not outright hiding but, but she does seem a little embarrassed to be holding it for some reason.

“I owe you a battle.”

“And some massages and pampering.” She doesn’t miss a beat. “But you owe Jane, too, don’t you? Isn’t that why she’s usually around?” She stretches. “I don’t want her seeing me fight. Not if I’m going to beat her.”

“You’re going to beat Jane?” Abbigail appears from nowhere. “That chick looks scary good. I was going through her badge case and she’s no slouch.”

“You went through her stuff?” Laki asks.

“Oh. Whoops. Shouldn’t have said that out loud.” Abigail gets ready to bolt.

“Let me get you some tea.” Laki brightens up, taking a quick shining to her, but as Abigail approaches, Laki sighs and changes her mind. “Nevermind. I don’t want to know.”

"Are you sure?" Abigail looks around. "Nobody?"

Hana chimes in to get things back on track. “So does that mean you won’t be battling today?”

“Well, I can, as long as it’s away from where Jane will be. I’d like the experience. I’d like to see her battle again, too.” Laki sighs. “I’m going to have to take her on seriously soon though, now that everyone knows about it.” She looks almost shy. You guess she feels a little pressure. The longer it gets built up, the worse that sort of thing gets

“I’m sure we can find somewhere out of the way.” You tell her. “There’s a lot of brush around here with clearings.”

She hesitates, but pushes herself up. “Alright. Let’s battle. I won’t be getting stronger just sitting here.”

You think she’s taking it a little too seriously, but hold off on commenting for now. You, her, Hana, and Abigail go for a walk to where the Conservationists were meeting before. It’s a good distance, so Jane wouldn’t stumble onto it by accident. There are a few of them around, still winding down from the play. A few wave to Hana. She shyly waves back.

Laki takes out all of her pokemon and runs some quick warmup exercises. You decide to do the same.

“Before we get ready, what kind of battle do you want?” You ask, also half thinking about what items to give your pokemon.

She shrugs. “You tell me. I don’t want to choose because I need to be prepared for anything. No going easy on me either.”

Wow, she really is taking it seriously.

You consider the options. “How’s two pokemon each sound?”

She nods. “Sure. Good practice on choosing the right one, and if I choose wrong I’ll have to think on my feet. Good thinking.”

You just chose it at random, but you’re glad she’s happy.

“Go Herb!” Hana shouts “Go Laki!”

“Please don’t cheer for me.” Laki says, rolling her eyes. But there’s something else behind that statement, too. A sadness, you think. Is she being reminded of her time at the games?

You bend down and look at your pokemon. They all stop goofing around and look back, wondering what’s up. You think about what to give them before battling.

You think for a second before handing him a Sitrus berry. “Here you go, Dice.” He’s about to eat it before you stop him. “No no. Save it for the match, if you get in trouble. It’ll heal you.”

He stares up at you blankly. You have no idea if he understood that. But he puts it away, so you guess so. He slaps his tail on the ground playfully like he’s ready to rumble, but then he gets distracted by a dandelion seed blowing in the wind.

“You look less pretty today.” Laki teases. “I’m going to make you pay for vanishing yesterday.” Despite her words, there’s no edge to her tone. It comes off as a show to hide her nerviousness than anything. “Ready?”

You look to your pokemon, and then to her.

“Good! Let’s go!” She points to the field.

It’s an open field, whose only features are a few patches of grass about three feet tall that a pokemon might hide in, and an old, dried out log. The weather is fair. Actually, it’s a little cool for the island thanks to some light overcast.

He sticks out a thumb’s up without looking.

On Laki’s side stands Meowth. He hisses and swipes at the air, making a show of it’s agility and speed.

Meowth strikes with a quick Fake Out. Despite seeing your pokemon take a hit, it looked really cool. It just sort of flickered and struck, stunning Gobble for a second.

“Good job! Keep that initiative. Stay ready.” She shouts. What’s that mean? Is she planning something?

“Gobble. Shake it off and go for Body Slam!”

Gobble rushes ahead and leaps into the air. He’s swift for his bulk. And strong too! It’s a good hit! He lands right on the small pokemon. It scrambles out from under him and gets some space. You were hoping for a paralyze, but no such luck.

“Now’s out shot! He’s vulnerable!” Laki shouts. “Hit him with Thunder!”

There’s no way you heard that right. Thunder? Meowth?

Judging by the way Hana takes a few quick steps back and Abigail is actually left without words, maybe she did actually say that.

Clouds gather above and you can already feel the wind shift. Gobble is still pushing himself up.

Did she intentionally hold back on her next attack to wait for Gobble so she’d have an easier time hitting? She might even have an easier time landing a critical hit, with his back exposed.

Your heart is racing! How did this get so exciting so fast?

“Gobble! Sunny Day! Hurry! Don’t worry about getting up!

Gobble doesn’t like staying there, but it’s the only way you’ll pull it off fast enough. He trusts your judgement and uses the move as quickly as he possibly can under the circumstances. And as he does.

The clouds part just as the massive surge of lightning comes crashing down. It hits Gobble, but it’s clearly not as precise or strong as it could have been. You get the sense that you were seconds away from disaster there. He doesn’t yell out. He just takes the hit calmly as a tiny bit of smoke rises off of him.

“Don’t let up, Meowth! Screech!” Laki yells another command just as Gobble’s getting himself back up. As Meowth sharply inhales, you notice it’s paw move something from one hand to the next. That looks like a berry, possibly. But what kind?

Dang! She’s using her initiative to stay a half step ahead, keeping you on the defensive. By the time you’re getting to use a move she’s already on top of her next one. But that’s helping you get a sense of her style. Jane follows a pattern where she lures you out, then strikes hard and backs away. It seems like Laki’s doing the same thing. It’s too early to know for sure, though.

You could try Focus Punch, but judging by how fast Meowth’s been so far, he might screech and then intercept before Gobble pulls it off. He’ll have to outpace her again for that to work.

It’s no use trying to play catch up with quick moves. You’ve got to rely on something that’s never let you down so far.

“Gobble! Metronome!”

Gobble’s unable to hear you at first as Screech’s high pitched, ear-splitting wave of sound rushes over him. You repeat yourself.

Luckily, Laki can’t hear you either. “He’s going to use Focus Punch next. Don’t let him! Interrupt it with Slash!”

Meowth leaps at the Munchlax, slashing it across the body in a way that makes even you wince. But Gobble takes it like a champ as he finishes using Metronome. And what happens next is something you don’t think you’ve ever seen before.

A colossal beam of pink light fires out from Gobbles body, blowing away the grass under it and washing over Meowth. The poor cat is blown right back. Laki herself jumps to the side as the beam carries on. Luckily it dissipates before getting any farther.

Meowth wobbles on its feet, then falls over. It was knocked out well before the move finished.

Gobble breathes heavily, barely standing himself. His scarf stops blowing wildly as the wind from his attack dies down. He’s in terrible condition, and even his stoicism can’t hide it. He falls to one knee. You wait for a second to see if he’ll get up, but he just can’t manage it. That Slash after the Screech looked like it hurt, but you also think the move he used took a lot out of him, too.

“Gobble, it’s okay. Come on back.” You say. Even as worn as he is, you suspect that he’d find the the strength to continue on if this were someone other than Laki. He’s like that, where he gets more fired up depending on how he sees his opponent. But you don’t see any reason to push him here.

“WHAT THE FRIG WAS THAT!” Abigail shouts, squatting on a nearby rock like a frog. “Did you guys see that? Woah!”

“Yeah.” Laki says, recalling Meowth and looking at the ball. “I don’t know what it was, but that was powerful. I’m proud of your quick work, Meowth. We’re one for one thanks to you.”

Gobble gives a weak thumbs up to Abigail before vanishing in a pokeball. There’s a distinct outline of flattened grass pointing out from where he used that move.

Laki reaches for her next ball. She looks worried this time. “I was going to use U-Turn if it was a bad matchup or he got in trouble.” She confesses. “I didn’t expect that.”

“Me either.” You admit, holding Gobble’s ball.

Let’s see. Laki has Chatot, Wailord, and Bergmite left. Mace has the advantage against two of the three, but she’d know that. Belladonna would be in trouble against Chatot and Bergmite from the typing. And what about Sorbet and Dice? Should you play the odds, try something she wouldn’t expect, or just use a pokemon that could use the experience?

“Alright Mace! You’re up!”

Mace waddles out a bit to get ready. You notice he’s gotten some great control with flying lately, but he chose to run instead. He must be saving every ounce of energy just in case.

“Wailord! I was planning on switching to you against Gobble, but you’ll have a new opponent instead!”

The colossal pokemon blocks your view of Laki entirely when it appears. It’s got presence, that’s for sure. Both of you lower your guard when your eyes meet, though. He seems happy to see you, and you’re glad to see him too. He quickly replaces the soft look on his face with his battle face, and looks down at Mace.

Mace bows, then leaps into a ready pose

“Not the matchup I was expecting for you Wailord, but it’ll be the same plan as against Hitmonlee.”

Wailord’s face says it all. It knows what to do.

“Mace! Get as high as you can then come down like a rocket for the strongest tackle of your life!”

Mace makes moves once, twice, then finally leaps on the third motion, rocketing up high into the sky.

“Get ready, Wailord. We know where he’s going to land. We’ve been training for this.”

Uh oh. Is she going to avoid it somehow? No. There’s no way Mace could miss such a huge target. And as much as you like Wailord, you know it can’t move that fast. What’s she going to do?

Mace reaches the zenith of his flight. You hope he’s okay with heights, because he’s barely visible. You aren’t really sure if you see him or not until you see the jet stream as he starts coming down.

“Soak!” Laki announces.

What? Soak? You know that move. But why? It changes the opponent’s type to Water.

You become even more confused when Wailord targets itself. It’s covered in a slick sheen. Laki gets a scary look on her face. She must see your confusion, because she explains. “I got this idea when I slipped on Wailord after he got wet. Just like Hitmonlee, Mace depends on blunt attacks for most of his damage. But look at Wailord’s smooth, round body. He’s going to slide along off to one side and crash into the ground. This is my counter to her High Jump Kick.”

She must feel cocky, explaining that plan. But as much as you want to, you can’t think of a way to stop it. There’s no way Mace would hear anything you say right now. He’s coming down so hard and fast. Your feelings are so mixed. Laki’s plan is so impressive, but you don’t want Mace to lose so quick like this.

The stream of energy behind Mace is humbling and terrifying. It reminds you of a rocket launch, but coming down instead of up. It looks so fast as he gets closer. He comes down so hard and fast that he looks like a solid, rock-coloured line. It’s only after he hits that the true sound hits you. Dust and noise come next. Judging from how much kicked up, Mace must have hit the ground hard!

You open your eyes after you stop feeling dust and air on your face, and you can see Mace triumphantly on top of Wailord. It was Wailord impacting the ground after being hit that caused all that! Mace must have hit it at the exact perfect angle; not a single degree off!

(continued)
>>
>>2086180
He gracefully leaps off of Wailord, landing halfway between you and it, ready for the next command.

“WAILORD” Laki yells out.

The massive pokemon doesn’t move. It’s embedded right in the dirt by at least six inches. You hope he’s okay.

A huge eye shoots open, and instead of the friendly, happy-go-lucky pokemon you saw a second ago, there’s absolute anger. The ground shakes as it slightly rises from it’s rut. It’s clearly very hurt, and you suspect almost any other pokemon would be cleanly out, but you guess it’s as enduring as it looks. Still, you doubt it has much fight left.

You also notice that the water has been completely blown off of it. He’s vulnerable.

“Don’t get discouraged. We’re not out of moves yet. Wailord, remember the other plan for dealing with agile opponents.” Laki shouts. Despite that, she's sweating bullets. Her eyes keep looking to Hana and Abigail, and now the two conservationists who've run into view to investigate.

Wailord’s anger fades and it brightens up. You guess it’s trained so hard that it’s excited to put whatever he’s planning to use.

“Whirlpool! Once he’s trapped and can’t rocket around, you’ll have him. Just like Hitmonlee.”

She doesn’t let up for a second! Unlike Jane who likes to talk, or Polu who seems to hype his pokemon up between moves, Laki doesn’t give you a second to breath or think.

“Don’t wait for it! Blast it with your energy!” You yell out to Mace. Even after that amazing attack, they’re keeping you on your toes.

Mace leaps into the air with a small rocket boost. For a second you think he didn’t hear, but you see him aim his legs and the thing at the top of his head as he spins. You lost track of which is which. You suppose it doesn’t matter right now. All three fire a beam that spins together. Three different elements are clearly visible. Fire, Water, and Electricity. Tri Attack!

It blows right into Wailord. A direct hit! The Whirlpool it’s preparing spins off wildly, just barely catching Mace as he tries to balance himself out from his out attack. He’s twirling around even more, and the Water move is super effective, but Mace is able to land on his feet and slowly bring his spinning to a sliding spot.

Wailord, for all it’s might, finally gives up and collapses. It must have been pushing hard after that first attack. It groans as it crashes down.

Laki hangs her head for a moment, and retrieves her pokemon. You’re worried for a second, but when you see the excited look on her face your heart bursts with joy.

“That was amazing!” She says, her voice cracking a little. “Look at my hand. I’m shaking! I know I’m still years away from taking on Jane now but I almost don’t even care!”

“It was a great battle.” You tell her.

“I don’t get it.” Abigail says to Hana, but still loud enough for you to hear. “She got whooped. Why’s she so excited? Am I missing something?”

Hana whispers something to the redhead.

“What? She didn’t choke when fighting with me earlier.” Abigail again says just a little too loudly. “Why’s it so special now?”

Hana once again whispers.

“Jane makes her feel what? Oh that’s juicy.”

Laki’s smile is fading as she watches both of them talk about her. You were just about to tell her and Mace how awesome they were, too.

“Laki! That was so cool!” You take her hand and attention. You just have so much praise for her. ”Using Soak like that? You really had me worried.”

Mace nods, backing you up.

“Really? It didn’t work.” She says. “I thought I could out predict you. Same with thinking you were going to use Focus Punch before.”

“You almost did. To be honest, I think my pokemon won despite me by going the extra mile.” You rub Mace’s head. “He had to hit Wailord dead on.”

“Yeah. You were pretty amazing, Mace." She scratches behind her head. She seems almost younger right now. "I think my pokemon would have been better off with a better trainer giving commands, though.”

“You’re too hard on yourself.” You insist. “Meowth using Thunder? And they way you timed it for when Gobble was on the ground? You’re closer to beating Jane than you think.”

“He’s right.” Abigail says, approaching. “I didn’t know they could learn that. That’s really impressive” Wow. You didn’t detect any sarcasm or anything from that. Abigail’s being really nice! “You’re pretty sneaky for such a huge Golurk of a woman.”

So close!

“Like you can talk. My boyfriend was prettier than you too, last night.”

Abigail raises a finger to say something, but she has no response to that. You’re not sure how you feel about that either, but you can let that one comment go given how excited you still are.

Hana scratches Mace with her metal arm. His aged dignity vanishes as he leans into it and you can almost swear he’s purring. “You were so cool, Mace. Does that move have a name?”

“I guess I’ll go with Rocks Fall.” You say. There’s a fun little understatement in that title. Mace looks at you like you the same way you’ve seen your sister look at your dad when he makes a bad dad joke. Somehow that makes you more sure of your decision than less.

Plus you feel like he really needed that win. Despite not really having a face, you can still see how much better he feels now compared to earlier. It's in his step.

Laki inhales and exhales. She holds your hand and talks quietly. “I need to tell you something.”

“Sure.” You say, looking around to make sure this is private. It sounds like it should be, from her voice.”

“I was getting some pretty bad anxiety back there. Lots of pressure. It’s not just battling anymore. This is something I’ve been doing my best on. My head’s in a weird place right now. I did my best and I lost and I’m crushed but I’m also really happy about it for some reason. I just kept thinking about choking and how bad it’d be if I started getting that feeling again. And I did, but I got past it.” Her hand is sweaty. I guess half because I’d have to murder Abbigail if she saw me choke, and half because of your dress.”

“My dress?”

“Yeah. It’s weird. All I could think is that if you could face that, I’d be kind of a wimp not to handle my own thing.”

Oh. You really don’t know what to say now. But she quickly changes the subject anyway

“I think I want to fight Jane now.” She says. “I know I’m not totally ready, training-wise. But I’m scared that if I don’t do it now, I won’t be able to later. I just... I need her to respect me. This is the only way I know how. I need to face her, show her I can commit and see something through, and show her I’m not a- I don’t know what.”

She’s really laying it all out.

>She should face Jane now
>Wait until she’s ready
>She should abandon this if that’s her motivation. It’s not healthy
>You have no advice. But you’re here for whatever she needs
>Something else

[Last update for the night! Sleep tight everyone! Not exactly sure when the next thread will be but I'll post here and on twitter when I can confirm.]

quetion, does our new move have any secondary effects? possibly confusion due to the fact im pretty sure that could cause a concusiion
>>
>>2086325
>>Wait until she’s ready
Thanks for running
>>
>>2086325
>Do it now.
>Give’r hell babe.
>>
>>2086325
>>You have no advice. But you’re here for whatever she needs
I got nothing.
Night Gobble. Thanks for running.
>>
>>2086325
>she should face Jane now
Regardless of outcome , the act of trying seems to be what she needs for herself and we'll support that. Give her any info we can think of vs Jane specifically that she might not already know

Then afterwards
>She should abandon this if that’s her motivation. It’s not healthy
This is clearly a pride thing, and although having a rival to spur her on plus goals is great, this won't be enough in the long run. For now let her do what she needs to do
>>
>>2086326
[I like your name.

I don't know. I'll let people pitch ideas, I guess, and see from there. Secondary effects are always interesting. It'd have to involve some sort of catch though, like being less powerful. I originally just pictured massive damage, but you guys tell me what you think and we'll figure something out.]
>>
>>2086334
On both sides it clears away terrain and both hazards (spikes, toxic spikes, small bodies of water, most vegetation, etc.) if it misses.

‘Cause the ground ain’t there no more.
>>
>>2086334
Or maybe instead of or in addition to that, it kicks up a dust cloud that lowers accuracy dramatically for a round? It would give both Pokémon a chance to set up or swap out.

Anyways, thanks for running, goodnight!

I'd like it to be the Rock version of Fly, or possibly >>2086337
>>
I've been catching up with the quest, and noticed that this thread is archived as 60 on suptg, and the actual thread 60 doesn't seem to be archived. Does anyone know how to fix that?
>>
>>2086334
I forget, what bins are you working on these days?
>>
>>2086388
I think gobbles finished them all

I'd like some what if bins of if herb was in a relationship with other chars ( Jane val kiera polo etc), and a lil short of the Pokemon hanging out and interacting, maybe going on an small adventure
>>
>>2086390
These sound good, i'd like to see a what if of the gang holding out at the final town unconquered by Dark Herb, fearful for their lives and virginities
>>
>>2086360
Yeah, I'd say a two-round move with a semi-invulnerable turn sounds right (Like Fly, we can still be hit by stuff like Thunder, Twister and Sky Uppercut). Maybe with crash damage if we miss to allow even more damage.
>>
>>2086390
We still don't have 63 of Val or Keira, or the "girl's night" wherein Spice is hanging out with the girls in a 'verse where she's the only 63.
>>
>>2086325
>>She should face Jane now
If she feels that it's what she really wants
>>Wait until she’s ready
But both Herb and Laki could use the next few days to really work on training after helping with the festival, the Murkrow, the Gardevoir issue, and finding out about the time flower with the whole island disaster being the fault of a pokemon and not failure on any one party...

And that's not even MENTIONING the issues going on with there being two Fugs that may want to kill each other with the islands in between.

>>2086381
Oh shit I'm not finding the real 60 on suptg or the 4chan archive either.
>>
Okay thank goodness, found it on the .moe archives. Can you link moe to suptg and still get it archived on suptg?
>>
Here's the actual thread 60 for anybody catching up or reading this in the future.

Oh geez Laki got kind of luck sacked huh
>>

>light of ruin
>100, new signature move named after the wrath of the narrator

Yeah, Laki’s bad luck is more powerful than our own.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Everybody! Especially you Gobble, it's dangerous out there for such a lovable Turkey!

Even loss can lead to growth

[Hope everyone's having a good turkey day. I won't be able to run until Sunday. New job and my first week's hours are unclear because it's at the end of a project and it's iffy about when overtime is needed and hard to schedule around. That's just this week though. Saturdays will still be a usual day for running, just not this one.]

I'm pretty sure you mean "a sliding STOP" there.
