Shinobi Quest #59/The Return!! #1

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last Thread, Tsuki Norihime signed a contract in blood, gaining new allies- and for the second time, bridged the gap between their world and her own.

Then Wargle disappeared for the better part of a year. Whoops.

But at last; I am here.

And this is Shinobi Quest: The Return!!
>>
I'm hyped
>>
Hey everyone!
During the time since the last thread, i've come up with a way to solve father's energy problem, making his dream of a working airship not only possible, but reproducible.

The information is in this pastebin https://pastebin.com/uNX3Y5y3 along with various other ideas that the tech could potentially be used for.
I want to get this information to yoru as soon as he gets back, he'll be so excited!

For those that don't want to read the pastebin, here's the main gist of the idea.

"Tags.
Handy, right? An explosion right in your pocket, and enough of them can do serious damage.
Explosion tags are little more than ink, paper and a little chakra, simple as can be and produced in massive quantities.
They can be set off by wires, fuses, or by releasing their seal through your own chakra.

But what if you sealed specific things into your paper?
You'd have proper fūinjutsu, right? Complicated inscriptions that boil down to sealing one object into another.
This is often used by ninja like Tenten to seal weapons, tools and goods like food and water for easy storage and transport. Already quite useful on it's own.

But what if you sealed something besides some kunai or a pitcher of water into your tags? Like chakra-based attacks.
Great fireballs, phoenix flowers and so-on, to be used as a simple source of energy. By doing so, you could create an extremely
energy-dense fuel capable of powering father's airship while remaining light enough not to weigh it down.
People are heavy, and they only have so much chakra in their bodies. The bigger problem though is how slowly their chakra regenerates.
They require essentially a day's rest to fully restore their chakra, but with this their energy can be shipped in from all over the world.
Energy in the form of tags, stored for long periods of time and used as and when needed while the ninja remains at home in their village.
With their work done offsite and their energy stored in an extremely lightweight material, weight is no longer an issue."

IT'S FUCKING TIME!

Do you mind a bit of Q&A while we're at it? I've got a bunch of questions during my reread.

You sure you didn't intend to kill off Ebisu? Half the time we spent with him, he was munching on some nice deathflags.

Haku was one of the available MCs, did we ever get to know what happened to him?

Do we know yet what was the one thing that changed the setting?

How will you ever top the Konoha invasion arc? It was fucking amazing.

We haven't met Neji and Nori since the sealing ritual, right? We should get to that as soon as we can, and hug the fuck out of Nori because that whole deal must have been terrible for her.

Was Itachi officially declared an outcast from the Uchiha clan? Would he adopt the Norihime name if we were to marry him, or at least consider doing it?

Do you have any plans regarding a Shippuden timeskip or could we avoid it entirely? Your original missions are great, and a training montage does not allow us to socialize and bond with any characters outside the team. Joint missions like the one when we got bitchslapped are really good for that, and we also get to fight along other characters, which is always fun.

I would like to remind everyone that, while it's perfectly fine to have a childhood crush on Itachi, we're still 12. Maybe once we hit Jonin and are at that level for a couple of years, we can worry about dating someone six years our senior. I'd like to avoid the topic until then, though.

A sudden drop in temperature- and an overwhelming sense of vertigo. You’d experienced them before, of course, but even knowing what would occur when speaking those words, it proved nearly impossible to prepare.

What you hadn’t expect was the darkness; as the inky blackness of the portal began to open beneath you, all the lights in the grand hall were extinguished. Those gathered before you could hardly contain their unease- and all you could offer in response was a faint smile.

After all, no matter how unsettling this technique seemed to be, it was to be the salvation of these creatures. The power of their goddess made manifest.

“My Children- do not fear! Great Kaguya has empowered this child with her own essence, and soon we shall be among the verdant plains of the world below! Please, remain calm!”

The throaty voice of the Rabbit Matriarch- Grandmother, she’d asked you to call her- did little to assuage the fears of her followers as, one by one, they transitioned into incorporeal masses of faintly green chakra.

Interesting- another ability to inquire about, when this was over.

As the dark morass of the technique you used began to overtake the last vestiges of your sight, however, the efficiency and intricacies of such a mode of transportation leave your mind. Your head swims, and the last thing you hear is a scream, followed by a series of dull explosions in the distance. Had Toneri found them after all?

Not that it mattered, now.

Biting, bitter cold. Weightlessly adrift in a sea of ebony, you can faintly hear Grandmother calling to you.

She, too, sounded so very far away.

Why was she waiting? She needed to-

“Child- if you cannot keep the pathway open, we will be unable to leave this realm! Please, hold strong!”

Easy for her to say.

Had she ever mantled the strength of a god?

As the chill of this lightless place seeps to your very bones, you feel the faintest warmth- the necklace.

Kaguya.

“Rest, Tsuki. I will take care of the rest.”

You want to fight- to show her you don’t need to rely upon her strength.

But even as you try to speak, you feel your body betray you.

Your eyes flutter, and your breath becomes inconsistent.

Sleep, Tsuki.

And so, you listen. Could a short nap really hurt?

Inconsistent dreams plague your rest;

Images.

Black birds, beaks dripping with blood.

A pale snake, eating it’s tail.

Four bright beings of light, slowly blinking out of existence- one by one.

A small sapling, which rapidly began to grow into a large and powerful tree- only to quickly wither and die.

The world on fire.

A broken statue of glass amongst a roaring sandstorm.

The Sharingan.

These images blink by faster than you can grasp them-
It’s so difficult to make out the details.

It’s hard to breathe. What is happening to you?

You try to focus; if you could only make sense of this…!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You focus on:
1. The black birds.
2. The pale snake.
3. The beings of light.
4. The sapling.
5. The statue of glass.
For the sake of clarity after my little trip away from home:
1. I never intended to kill off Ebisu so soon- even late into his last fight, he could've came out battered, but alive. Alas, it didn't work out that way.
2. You'll see.
3. The audience at large doesn't, though a few anons do know.
4. I certainly hope so! I likely need to earn a large portion of my readership back somehow, after all.
5. Nori left with Jiraiyaand Naruto shortly after the invasion, and haven't returned.
6. Sasuke currently leads the Uchiha after Fugaku's death. According to Itachi, he is "no longer of the clan".
7. Eventually there will be a timeskip. It's unavoidable, and I'd have to write for literal years to cover a blank space of time spanning nearly 2-3 years. I appreciate the feedback all the same!
Your mind reaches towards the familiar image- the great tree.
Konoha.
Home.
~~~~~~

At first, it’s a small, fragile thing- naught but a seed.

You see a lone man, kneeling as he plants the tiny seedling.

His hands are rough and calloused, his arms covered in scars.

The sapling begins to sprout, it’s meager growth grasping towards the sky.

The man smiles- but his eyes are occluded by tears, and you can see a bloody foam accruing at the corners of his mouth.

The man soon falls, covered in wounds. His tears, and his blood, feed the young sapling, which grows strong.
~~~~~~~~
In time, a second man approaches. Clad in blue and white, he stands guard over the sapling.
Dark figures begin to coalesce in the distance- coveting the sapling.
The man fights them all- and he banishes the covetous darkness; but yet, he does not due so unscathed.
As the battle ends, the second man collapses from his wounds and the base of the sapling, now grown into a small tree. As he dies, blood pooling at the tree’s base, he summons a small monkey to his side. He entrusts the monkey with the tree with his last breath.
~~~~~~~

The monkey too, fights many foes- but lesser, in many ways, than those of the man before him.

Eventually, he greys- the passage of time evident too, by the growth of the tree.

One day, as he sits at the base of this now mighty oak, shadows gather from it’s base.

The shadow appeals to the old monkey, wishing to take up guardianship over the place that guards it from the sun’s rays.

But the monkey refuses, and in time, grants guardianship of the tree instead to a small toad.

The shadow mistrusts the toad, and keeps up it’s defense of the tree despite not being bidden to do so.

In anger, the toad banishes the shadow from his domain. But as the shadow slinks into the darkness, the dark figures begin to mount on the horizon.

The toad fights them, but is overtaken. The tree stands alone, mighty- but without a guardian for the first time.

I've been thinking about ROOT and Danzo as Hokage.

I think we need a puppet kage

>>2082175
"never trust a traitor, even one you create"-a fucking smart schemer
>>
>>2082178
Nope. The ROOT must be content with its place. To covet control over the whole tree would be folly. We simply must ensure that what we defend is kept safe.

>>2082178

Nah. Too militaristic.
>>
>>2082162
Agree that Sai is shit. Gaara could be cool. Lee is shit. Itachi is cute. Neji is only good if we get his sister as well.
>>
>>2082178
Nah Danzo has too much baggage with the village to be hokage, we need a puppet who either is too dumb to know about ROOT or doesn't care about it.
>>
>>2082178

That person is Tsunade.
>>
>>2082141
>You see a lone man, kneeling as he plants the tiny seedling.

Huh.

No mention of Madara who helped him plant that seed...

Is that the one yes or no question that had a different answer which spawned this setting?

Madara didn't think Konoha was possible?
>>
>>2082201
Kind of figured, but she is pretty against ROOT so if she finds out it could be very risky. Unless Nori and Nart don't fix her in their trip.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip4wiAa92sQ

~~~~~~~
The shadow once again gathers at the base of the tree- and finds the corpse of his old friend, the monkey.
As it mourns, several new figures appear:
One is a beautiful woman in funerary makeup.
One is a smaller toad with a single, bloodshot eye.
The last is a man wearing the armor of a Samurai, wielding a hiltless blade.
The shadow gathers itself once more to defend it’s home, declaring itself guardian of the tree.
These figures, however, dispute this claim.
As the four argue, the day turns to night, then day again.
As the sun rises, the tree has begun to wilt- for in that moment, you realise the truth:
The tree needs not water to thrive, but blood.
The best option is probably a sannin, or otherwise maybe someone like Asuma or even Shikaku.
The tree turns to dust, blown away by the passing of time.
The harsh winds tear the land asunder, and soon the once lush field the tree called home is nothing but a wasteland.
But yet, not all has a perished-
A dark figure with eyes seeping blood reaches towards the moon, arms outstretched.
Around the figure’s neck, a pale snake hangs, it’s fangs bared.
At the figure’s feet, a new tree has sprouted- with bark black as pitch, and leaves the color of blood.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You inhale sharply- and bright light nearly blinds you.

Trying to cover your eyes, you find your hands bound…!

You attempt to wrench yourself free-

And hit a cold, hard surface.

Vision clearing, you lay eyes upon your assailant- the floor.

“Uhm, Tsuki-hime? Are you alright?”

The voice is soft and feminine, tinged with concern.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvgn-aGirqw

Hinata?

Gathering yourself up from the floor- with blankets at your side, you note- you see Hinata’s pale irises staring back at you. A simple bed separates you, the walls of the room a stark white and unadorned.

You react with:

1. Suspicion. Where are you?

2. Relief. It’s good to see her after all this time.

Won't be of proportion either, I'm sure Deidara's arm is a lot longer than ours and would throw us off. We're already developing powerful techniques, there's literally no reason to cripple our self so we can have a couple more weapons in our arsenal that we'd only use situationally anyway.

If we implant his arm, we're only going to fall behind. Give it up anon

Peeking over the bedside, you beckon Hinata over.

She smirks, mimicking your posture across the bed.

“Hinata. As happy as I am to see you right now- where are we?”

You squint.

“Also, don’t mock me- this is serious.” you pout.

She blushes, quickly getting to her feet and offering you a helping hand.

“Well- we weren’t really sure what happened. There were reports of loud noises coming from your room; when we investigated, we found the entire place in disarray! You were soaked in sweat, your bad arm was free and looked to be broken again, and we were unable to rouse you.” She explains.

“So, in short, Tsuki-hime; you’re in the hospital. Again.” She finishes, giving a light shrug after helping you to your feet.

Hospital? But what about the rabbits? How did you manage to get home?

Hinata’s blush deepens slightly- and you realize you’re still holding her hand. You think about pulling it back, only to realize that you should be in agonizing pain. Eventually you let her hand drop, holding up your arm in amazement.

“Hinata, I have quite a few questions...” You murmur, staring at your arm.

Shinobi Medi-nin were able to work miracles, but nothing like this. You stretch out your fingers, then make a fist.

No pain at all.

“Ah- I figured you might. I- well, Father, does as well. But that can wait until you’re feeling better. No need to rush your recovery!” She says, giving a slight smile.

Hiashi Hyuuga… You hadn’t given it much thought before, but maybe performing such a technique under his roof wasn’t the best idea. Either way, that bridge had already been crossed.

“Hinata, I-” You say, words catching in your throat.

“Hinata, how long have I been here? Surely the medi-nin couldn’t have completely healed me this soon!” You ask, concerned. Normally healing like this would take weeks even with Konoha’s skilled medical teams.

“W-well, it definitely is a bit of a unique circumstance, Tsuki-hime. It’s been about a-” She starts to explain, before being interrupted by the door opening rather suddenly, with surprising force.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjoJgMP_wqQ

In the doorway, a rather well-endowed woman stands, dressed rather unlike any medi-nin you’ve ever seen. Her simple haori and blouse contrast her looks- fair of skin and blonde of hair, she’s easily one of the most beautiful women you’ve ever seen; or would be, if her features weren’t twisted up in anger.
“Eight days, Tsuki Norihime- at least, that’s what the reports they shoved in my hands say. Tell me, were you trying to get yourself killed? Concussion, a broken arm that mere weeks ago was nearly powder- and severe chakra depletion on top of it!” She wields the folder in hand like a weapon; Hinata has already visibly shrank in the presence of this woman.

“If you were any true patient of mine, I’d have you locked away and bound to the bed until you could recover naturally-”

Her fuming rant is interrupted by another women with short, dark hair poking in behind her.

“Ah- but we wouldn’t have received Yoru-san’s rather generous offer to clear your gambling debts, Tsunade-sama.” She gently chides.

“Feh. It’s not like I needed his cash…. Besides, you were more than capable of dealing with her, Shizune. This was simply a side-job compared to what Jiraiya and the two brats begged me to come back far.”

“Eheheh… speaking of which, Tsunade-sama; you should probably return to Kushina-chan’s room. She is well beyond my ability to assist. I can take care of finishing up with this patient.”

“Fine.” She hands the folder over to the new woman, Shizune. “Make sure Yoru’s little princess doesn’t hurt herself anymore. I don’t want to stay here any longer than necessary.”

With that, the woman marches out of the room in a huff.

Wait- did she say Tsunade-sama?

“Please excuse Tsunade-sama; she doesn’t like to be interrupted during her work. However, your father was quite insistent- and made an offer she was rather reluctant to refuse. That aside, she does have a point. You were under orders to rest and recover; instead the Hyuuga brought you here comatose and nearly depleted of all your chakra.”

By this point, her tone has adopted a harsher tone, as if she was correcting a small child.

“The Konoha medi-nin were already near exhausted from watching Naruto and Nori’s mother around the clock. When we arrived in town, Yoru-san nearly beat down the door, demanding to see Tsunade-sama; had they not spent some time together many years ago, she likely would’ve knocked him out cold… though he did come with cash in-hand.”

“Anyway- what I’m saying is you’re a lucky girl. You shouldn’t be so eager to put yourself through… whatever it was you were trying to do so soon after being injured. Tsunade-sama won’t always be here to save you.” She finishes, tapping a pencil on her folder.

You frown. You don’t like being talked down to like this- but there are obviously more important things to worry about. Another of the Sannin has returned to Konoha- and that would be big news, even without Konoha’s current flood of issues. Hopefully Father didn’t have to spend too much to clear that woman’s debts- though, if she’s really that bad with money, that can probably be exploited.

Are you really thinking about blackmailing or bribing one of the Sannin? You shake your head.

Then again… the old Toad Sage hadn’t left the best of impressions, either. And the less said of Orochimaru the better.

It would only make sense for the last of the three to have her own issues.

With Tsunade’s absence, Hinata has seemingly reappeared from wherever she was hiding, though she still seems a bit on edge.

You let Shizune’s admonishment pass. Better that they think it was a training accident than find out what it really was.

“I understand. Is my Father here? I’d like to speak with him- he left on business shortly after we fought off the enemy.”

You maintain eye contact with Shizune. Her expression grows complex, but she doesn’t rise to your prodding.

“Very well, Tsuki-san. Yoru-san has been waiting most impatiently since he visited Tsunade-sama. I’ll let him know you’re awake.”

You give the woman a sweet smile as she leaves.

“Y-you needn’t be so cold, Tsuki-hime. Those two did come to save Nori’s mother, after all- and they aren’t asking for any payment, either.” Hinata pipes up after Shizune leaves.

“They’re of Konoha, Sannin or not. Saving Kushina-san after everything that’s happened- it’s the least they can do.” You state matter-of-factly, eyes not leaving the door Shizune left through.

“Y-yes, but-”

“TSUKI, MY DEAR DAUGHTER- FATHER IS HERE!” You hear your father yelling from further down the hall.

You take a deep breath, and meet him with a smile.

The door crashes open- and Yoru Norihime appears, full of energy and fatherly affection.

At least, that’s what he projects. Beneath his eyes you see telltale signs he hasn’t slept, and his normally well-kept goatee is starting to become scraggly.

Still, he’s dressed like he came straight from the Daimyo’s residence- and is still sporting that goofy cane.

His overzealous display manages to draw some giggles from you and Hinata both- you suspect that was the desired effect, as he beams.

“My precious daughter- I trust Tsunade’s work is as flawless as expected?” He asks, all smiles.

In response, you walk over and give him a hug, which he eagerly returns.

“I feel great. I only hope she can work the same miracle for Kushina-san.” You say, hugging him tightly.

“Tsunade is the best there is, no question. She’s well worth whatever cost she asks for. I’m just happy you aren’t hurt. The reports painted a grim picture-”

“I’m fine! Really. I’m sure they were simply exaggerating.” You say, attempting to quell his concerns.

“Still- you had me worried. Danzo as well, though he’d never show it. Honestly, he’s taken to all the tasks around town like a man half his age. I’d never expect less of him, though.” He says, scratching his scruffy goatee.

I have an idea for how to cheer him up, and maybe get him to forget his worries.

>"Hey dad, remember your airship? I have an idea..."
>>
“Ah, forgive me, Hinata-chan! How have you been? You’ve been most vigilant in keeping an eye on Tsuki all this time!” Your father says, turning his energy towards Hinata.
“Ah- I’m fine, Norihime-san! Thanks for asking.” She says, not sure how to handle his enthusiasm.

“Please, Yoru is fine, Hinata-chan! After all, your father has been more than generous in housing us after the events at the manor. I intend to repay him most handsomely for that!” He announces.

“Y-yes, Yoru-san!” Hinata acquiesces.

“Speaking of which, I’ll need to see him soon. I bring news from the Capital- the Daimyo has called for the selection of a new Hokage; and he isn’t a man you keep waiting. Thankfully, I believe Danzo has done most of the heavy lifting for me.”

In his flurry of activity, you notice he isn't leaning on his cane- and you deftly swipe it from him.

"Father, really- what is with this tacky thing? It's obvious you don't need it." You tease.

He feigns shock, then holds his hands up like a criminal caught red-handed.

"Ah, you caught me! I confess, Tsunade was kind enough to fix me up when we met. However, I am loathe to part with it- I think it really ads to my ensemble." He laughs.

"Besides, some people can't help but underestimate someone if they appear injured or handicapped in some way." He says, giving you a wink.

You smirk, then quickly change the subject.

"So, you know one of the Sannin, father?" You prod.

Picking up on the subtext of your topic change, he plays along.

"Ah yes- Tsunade is.... an acquaintance, you could say. We had a few misadventures together when I was a young man." He explains.

"Misadventures, eh?" You scold, poking him in the chest with a single finger. "With a beauty like that?"

He gives you a wild grin.

"Tsunade is most definitely not my type, Tsuki dear. Besides, I'd likely be as broke as she is if we stuck together. Besides, your mother knew her as well."

That was new information.

"Hmm. Maybe I should have you tell me some tales of your "misadventures". Sounds like it would be... educational." You quip.

"Eh- maybe not now. We wouldn't want to worry Hinata-chan with such tales!" He deflects.

"*That* is possibly the worst excuse you've ever given me, Father." You admit.

You hug him again.

"I missed you."

“I shouldn’t worry Danzo anymore than I already have. Maru too. I’ll happily tag along.” You answer.

“Besides-” you turn to Hinata. “Surely she’s seen enough of this face for today, at least.”

You wink.

Color fills her face- but she does manage to respond.

“D-don’t tease me, Tsuki! I was worried too!” She pouts.

“Oho, no -hime? Did I go too far this time? Ohohohohoho~” you tease smugly.

Her face goes a deeper scarlet, but Father comes to her rescue.

“Hinata-chan, please tell your father that we will be by this evening for dinner. While I’m sure he expects us, certain formalities must be upheld.” He says with a kind smile.

“O-of course! We’ll be happy to have you, Norihime-san!” She bows.

Father gives an exaggerated sigh.

“Yoru works just fine, Hinata-chan, as I said. Spend any more time around Tsuki, and hopefully she’ll get you the rest of the way out of that shell of yours.” He teases.

~~~~~~
On your way out of the Hospital, you ask Father about Kushina’s status, and if you should visit her or go thank Tsunade properly.
“I wouldn’t worry about it for now. Tsunade doesn’t like to be interrupted while she’s working, anyway. She’ll come by later on to make good on our deal, so you can thank her then. While I’m not clear on the details of Kushina-san’s injuries, if there was anyone who can save her, it’s Tsunade. While her demeanor may leave a bit to be desired, she truly is the best Medical-Nin in the entire world.” he explains.
“You have quite the high opinion of her.” You assess.
“I do. I’ve seen her work firsthand many times. I wish I could’ve convinced her to stay in Konoha during our time together- but it’s best not to dwell on past mistakes. Not when we have such potential for new ones on the horizon!” He gives you a sly wink.
And so, off the two of you go- to the ruins of the Norihime manor.
Or, you should say “what once was the ruins of Norihime Manor”.
Instead of the pile of rubble that you’d come to accept as what was left of your home, you see a great crowd of workers, and most of the rubble cleared away.
“They certainly are working quickly!” You observe as the two of you walk through the once lush Norihime grounds.
“Not as fast as I’d like, but they are but human. The manor will rise again- stronger and more magnificent, like a phoenix!” He says, outstretching his arms.
His cane falls to the earth below.
You quickly retrieve it and prod him in the side.
“You play the cripple poorly, Father.” you chide.
I never was the best actor. The facade will stay as long as I need it to, though.” he muses.
“Which is?” You question.
“At least until there is a new Hokage. Though I might just hang onto it afterwards-” He makes a small show out outstretching his hand for his cane, which you provide. He begins to twirl it in response.
“I think it makes me look dapper. Maru agrees.” He says in a singsong voice.
You give him a flat look.
“She’d agree with you no matter what you said.”
“Please. The woman is as much my caretaker as yours. She’d never lead me astray.” He laughs.
“I am lodging my formal difference of opinion.” You state drably.
“Noted. I’ll bring it up at the next investors meeting. Or you can, if you’d prefer.” He teases. “They’ll need to meet you eventually anyway.”
“I’ll hold you to that. Where are we to meet Danzo and Maru?”
“Below.” He explains. “Danzo has been hard at work since your little meeting with the Queen Beetle.”
“I found Kogoto-san a pleasant conversationalist, myself.” You quip.
He coughs, then looks at you like you just told him you’d been to the moon.
“You may just surpass me after all. That woman is cold as iron.”
Maybe you just weren’t speaking her language, father?
You smile as the two of you enter the vault and head downwards to the ROOT facility.
>>
He wasn’t exaggerating.
As both of you exit the stairwell into what was once the “back entrance” of the ROOT facility, the flurry of activity surprises you. Norihime branded crates line the walls, and Aburame clansmen are hard at work unpacking enough weaponry to man a small army.
“Is all this really necessary? There are far more weapons than people down here.” You wonder aloud.
It is.” Father says with conviction. “I don’t intend to let the light of Konoha be extinguished- at least, if I have anything to say about it. Those Akatsuki- and the nations that aid them- will never again be able to set foot here without fighting for every inch they take in blood.
“Is the outlook truly that grim?” You ask, somewhat concerned.
“We never really know when they could strike again, even as good as our intel is. Some other nations have already publically backed out of agreements, given Konoha’s current position. We’ll just need to show them how strong Konoha can be.”
Strong talk- and he sounds similar to both Danzo and Kogoto, in a way. You wonder if the old Shinobi had more of an effect on Father than he’d actually admit.
“Come, they’ll be waiting past this lot.” He says, striding confidently past the Aburame shinobi.
You follow closely behind.
Ahead, the faint smell of tea greets you.
(Sorry for all the narrative. Choices upcoming)
Walking past a large vault door, you spy Danzo Shimura and Maru, your family’s faithful head maid.
Both rise as you enter, and you hear father hit the ignition for the vault door. After a few moments of the metal screeching, they greet you in earnest.
“Tsuki-dono! I’m relieved to see you well.” Maru says, bowing deeply.
“Indeed, Tsuki. The Hyuuga messengers had us believing you were on death’s very door. One less burden to carry, however, to see you well.” He says with a soft expression. There is a bit of disapproval in his voice, but only a hint. What did those messengers tell everyone?
Looking around the room, it doesn’t seem to sport any obvious vulnerabilities.
“We may need a more private place to speak our treasons.” You joke lightly. “However, I am very sorry to have worried all of you. I assure you it was nowhere near as dire as you were told. As you can see, I am hale and healthy. For now, I’m content to listen in."
“This room is mostly soundproofed, within reason. If you intend to hide anything from those Aburame shinobi, though, I wouldn’t bother. Those bugs of theirs will fit through the tiniest vulnerability. It’s best to assume they are always listening unless you are completely sure they aren’t. That’s simply the price of working with Kogoto.” Danzo explains nonchalantly.
“I’d be lying if I said that surprised me. Is this tea for us?” You ask politely, knowing the answer. There are four cups, after all.
“Indeed! I’ll pour you some now.” Maru replies sweetly.
As she does so, you and father take your seats across from her and Danzo.
As is custom, you wait patiently, then each take a sip. Hot green tea, with floral notes. Bitter enough to cause your nose to scrunch, despite your best efforts.
“Wonderful, as always, Maru.” Father says, and you nod in agreement- even if you still prefer the sweet stuff.
“Anyway, on to business.” Father announces, setting down his cup.
“As you both already know, and Tsuki knows now, the Daimyo has made the announcement of the selection process for the next Hokage- seeing as Minato had no obvious successor, and his whereabouts are still unknown.”
When this elicits no further comments, he continues.
“As such, all efforts must proceed to ensure Konoha’s next Hokage is at least friendly, if not aligned directly, with Norihime efforts. This includes, of course, your renewed interest in Konoha’s protection.” He says, indicating both you and Danzo.
“Therefore, we need make our selection clear- and influence the clan leaders accordingly by the time the conference is held. Before we continue, Tsuki- is there anything you’d like for us to go over or clarify? You have been somewhat out of the loop.” he says, his small smile more telling than his words.
“Only one question, though it will likely take some explaining. Who are the current known candidates for Hokage?” You ask.
It’s Danzo that speaks first.
“We likely don’t know all of them. The way the process is ran any clan head or jonin-level shinobi can put forward a name if they are present at the council. With Konoha’s community as fragmented as it is currently, there are bound to be several dark house candidates.” He explains.
“However, there are a few that quite likely, and it is them we should plan around.” He continues.
“The first among them will be the young Kakashi Hatake. During the invasion, he was able to defeat the Kazekage of Sunagakure in single combat- and for all purposes Minato’s second. He will carry favor among the clans for both these reasons, and for a third, unspoken. The Hatake clan is not powerful, and bears little honor after his father, Sakumo Hatake, committed suicide after a failed mission. Therefore, he will have little in the way of clan connections, and power outside his office. In practice, he will be another Minato- weak, and beholden to the clans for support.” He explains.
“He also will share Minato’s opinion on our activities, and may actually be even more against us than his former captain. After all- his adopted brother, Sai, was among those initially chosen to be trained for ROOT from a young age. We will likely have a lifelong enemy in him.
You nod.
“Kakashi is a strong Shinobi, there is no doubt. As was Minato, but that alone doesn’t guarantee shrewd leadership. His anti-ROOT stance is troubling as well. We will definitely need to oppose his coronation as Hokage.” You conclude.
“Correct, Tsuki. He is likely the worst outcome for us. Still, there are still others who we would not favor.” Danzo says.
“Hiruzen’s son, Asuma, is another possibility. He would be an outside bet, as he likely wouldn’t nominate himself- and did not win any direct acclaim during the attack. However, his family name still carries a lot of weight- and he is a skilled shinobi, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see him among the candidates.” Danzo continues.
“As you have seen, Tsuki, his opinion of myself is quite low. Any operation linked with me would likely arouse his ire, and it is best to assume he would harbor anti-ROOT sympathies as well.” Danzo finishes.
“Speaking of yourself!” Father interjects, taking control of the conversation. “We mustn't rule out our compatriot Danzo Shimura! While we would need to put your name forward, you would have our support and that of the Aburame. The Daimyo is also more than willing to give the hat to you, if that choice is made.”
“So that makes you and the Daimyo. Maybe Kogoto if she isn’t feeling vindictive. Nobody else.” Danzo says darkly. “I am likely never destined to take that seat- but if the clans come to that decision, I will lead Konoha ably. Obviously there are benefits to come with such an appointment, however unlikely.”
“The opinion of the clans can always be changed.” Father muses. “Or bought. Whichever it takes.”
“They’d sooner let the Daimyo take direct control of the village.” Danzo says flatly.
“Well, that is always an option…” Father responds.
“As much as you may wish for it, that is the one outcome less likely than myself being named.” Danzo says, disinterested.
“What about the Fourth’s teacher, Jiraiya?” Maru asks, attempting to add to the conversation.
“He’d never accept it. The man is incapable of taking responsibility for himself, let alone the whole village.” Danzo grumbles.
“But he is a household name! Surely the Sannin label is worth something?” Maru presses.
“Likely to whomever he chooses to endorse. If he backs Kakashi, we may be lost.” Father says.
“What about Tsunade? Jiraiya did manage to bring her back to Konoha.” You add.
Father laughs.
“Tsunade? She’d sooner give up drink and gambling. She’ll likely be looking to leave as soon as she finishes her work with Kushina. Besides, she’d be another outside entrant, as she’d never nominate herself, and would likely turn down the hat if it was offered to her.” Father explains.
“People can change, Yoru.” Danzo says.
“Tsunade isn’t most people. I’ll believe it when it happens, and not a moment sooner.” Father responds, leaning back in his chair.
“Anyway, Tsuki- those are some of the most likely candidates. There may be ones we don’t suspect, but they hold little chance of winning.” Danzo concludes.
>>
>>2083563
I did argue for telling Danzo or Itachi on two separate occasions after the quest had progressed from the original decision to tell no one. And dude, if you find someone hostile for saying that the way a character is acting is frustrating, and that it made them drop the quest, you have an extremely low threshold for difference of opinion. This is not hostility.
“So, among those…” You think aloud.
“We don’t have many options. The most likely candidate would spell our ruin. As such, we will either need to gain some leverage over him, or find another candidate to support. In the event of a tie among the four noble clan heads, the Daimyo will cast the tie-breaking vote. This gives us a degree of power, if we can force the tie. For that, we’ll need both Kogoto and Hiashi’s support.” Father says, spelling out the general plan.
“Hence your dinner tonight.” You identify.
“Of course. Politics is par for the course at any meeting of high society.” He says, amused.
“So we’ll need to pick somebody neither of them find offensive. If we lose either of them, our chances of appealing to the Akimichi or Uchiha are slim.” Danzo explains.
“Sasuke seems like a reasonable sort, he could be reasoned with…” You offer.
“Unlikely- the boy is likely influenced by Fugaku’s opinions at best, or actively controlled by the other Uchiha clan elders at worst. Choza and his vassals will never be swayed, either.” Danzo corrects.
“So, who to pick….? That is the true issue before us tonight.” You say, leaning on the table.
“Indeed, Tsuki. Our choice in this matter cannot be resolute. This is the future of Konahagakure.
And on that note, we'll be concluding for the night. I will be resuming tomorrow evening, at or around 7PM US Central time. Once people have gathered, you will be prompted to select or input who you believe the Norihime, as well as ROOT and it's allies, should support.
So, have your choices and arguments ready for tomorrow! I'm excited to see who you choose- and then work to see installed in the big red and white hat.
and again- thank you for everyone who returned tonight to participate. I love you all.
Much as Tsuki may not personally care for her, Tsunade might be the best choice.
She's the least anti-ROOT, she could be manipulated into relying on Danzo's advice, and after saving Kushina she'd be decently popular. Plus, it wouldn't look out of place for the Norihime to support her after she healed Tsuki.
>>
>>2083814
She's barely gotten to know her, Tsuki doesn't even have a real opinion yet. Which isn't me disagreeing, just me commenting on your first sentence.
More than being "manipulated", from a pure ideological perspective Tsunade's the only one on the short list who isn't hopelessly lost up their own asshole. I think the most important thing is to get a canidate the Hyuuga will support. We have more pull with Kogoto than Hiashi currently, so we could feasibly sway Kogoto to whatever choice Hiashi wants more than we could the other way around.
As a side note, what about Inoichi? he's got a decent amount of pull, already being a high ranking ninja, and might be more sympathetic to the need of more covert arts that ROOT would be providing the village
Alright everyone- while the twitter signal klaxon has been sounded, I figured I'd write up a short description of how this is going to work before we begin.
Feel free to write your opinions on who (any character) should become the next Hokage below. The "dark horse" candidate, ie anyone who wasn't listed above as a candidate, who has the most support will be added to the actual vote which candidate Tsuki will make the case for, along with a special option.
Any infeasible options (Orochimaru, Frankenkage/Robokage) won't be counted.
Try not to kill each other.
>>
>>2084963
I say Tsunade.
Sannin, liked well enough by the village, and is open to/not as against ROOT as other likely candidates.
>>
>>2084963
There's Itachi, but he lacks support from really any of the clans. He doesn't have MANY faults as a hokage candidate, but the ones he does have are glaring.
Shukaku Nara, though...can someone explain why Shukaku Nara wouldn't be a good candidate?
>>
>>2084963
Alright.
We'll table Frankenkage.
... For now.
Tsunade, with some encouragement and a proper calling-out for Giving The Fuck Up, could be useful. She's a Senju, a Sannin, and the least-hostile-to-ROOT choice not named Danzo.
>>2084976
The Nara are a minor clan with no other supporters. It would take a big push to put him over Kakashi or the others.
>>
>>2084963
Partial to Hiashi Hyuuga but Tsunade's probably the best option we have.
>>
>>2084976
He's both antiROOT and very smart. I'd rather vote for Hiashi as dark horse, even if he isn't really proROOT either - I believe we can sway him to our side.
Other than him, Tsunade looks like the best bet.
>>
>>2084963
I also think Hiashi Hyuuga might be a good option but I think tsunade is probably our most likely option.
>>
>>2084963
Tsunade for sure, best potential
>>
>>2084982
Except that the Nara are the nominal leaders of the Ino-Shika-Cho trio. Their intelligence and tactical acumen is as infamous as their laziness.
Also, being lazy and from a minor clan isn't quite as bad as being a notorious gambler and drunk.
>>
>>2084963
>Frankenkage
>>
>>2084976
Itachi also doesn’t want to be Hokage.
>>
>>2084963
I believe Tsunade to be the best, and easiest to get support for option. She's going to need convincing though, whether by us or someone else. Though Hiashi wouldn't be a terrible choice, especially if we get the Hyuuga's in on Root. He seems equally able to make the good, hard decision in things.
>>
>>2084976
He's apparently anti-ROOT and would never accept the mantle due to it being a pain in the ass.
I still like the idea of an asuma-shikaku duo, and i don't think it would be impossible to sway people's opinions regarding ROOT after everything that's happened, but i know that'll be a dealbreaker for most.
He would be a good hogake, but bad for ROOT. That's all.
Hiashi may be more accepting of ROOT, but hyuuga internal politics tell me that he'd be a dangerous figure as hokage, not just for ROOT, but for anyone that opposed him or his clan.
Tsunade is the obvious option because >canon, but i don't know about her. She's probably too much of a moralfag to allow it, and probably doesn't like danzo either.
I'll be honest, a lot of the issues we're having stem from the idea that danzo will be leading ROOT again.
Maybe we should just run it under the idea that he won't be involved at all, at least officially. Maybe he actually shouldn't, even. Give advice, sure, but not be involved in any operations.
If the name "Aburame" is connected to ROOT rather than "Danzo" then it immediately sounds infinitely more appealing, you know?
>>
>>2085037
Tsunade is/would be fine with ROOT.
>>
>>2085052
Then she's without a doubt the best option, both functional as a hokage and accepting of ROOT.
Sorry, my memory of naruto canon is quite fuzzy, it's been a good many years.
>>
>>2085037
People might more accepting of danzo now after the konoha crush. We had nin from other clans openly referring to him as -sama in the wake of the attack as he took charge. Those softer on the anti-root stance might thus be amendable to danzo being in charge if they can get some people they trust in the organisation as well.
It's worth mentioning, the "special" option I spoke above will be listed among the other options and the "dark horse" winner-
and that option will be "Dismantling the office of Hokage". This would be a very hardline stance against the failings of past Kage, and the failings of man in general. I decided on including this option due to Tsuki's rather low opinion of the 4th, and seeing firsthand that even the greatest Shinobi can make for poor leaders.
Keying into what Yoru mentioned before, it more akin to a council of elders reporting directly to the Daimyo of Fire.
I simply wanted to present this option (and what it would mean) so you all have some context before it shows up in the voting.
>>
>>2085037
>If the name "Aburame" is connected to ROOT rather than "Danzo"
Kogoto seems the type to lead ROOT from the shadows, rather than being its visible head. And for now, we're the only other member, and Danzo's pupil, so it will probably be hard to achieve.
It is still a good idea, though, and I am all for making changes to our version of ROOT so that it can be officially accepted by the Leaf.
You fucking heretic, are you looking to get purged? Do you want to destroy konoha? IS THAT IT?!
Hokage are but men, with all their folly!
>>2085070
She doesn't have to be it's head. ROOT, unlike the village, doesn't need a single leader to stand at the top. It could have a trivumrate instead, meaning that any blame won't fall onto a single person as it did with danzo.
This way it'll appear more like ROOT is being controlled by the aburame in general rather than just a single individual, even if in the end Kogoto holds more actual sway than the other two.
>>
We got a vision about this. If ROOT takes control of Konoha directly, we're going to get rekt. The ability of individual shinobi to have such a terrifying degree of power means that having one of significant skill and expertise in a CEO position is absolutely vital. While on paper, a more democratic system might sound appealing, we need SOMEONE with physical power to hold a position of political power as well.
>>
>>2085091
I like it. Danzo shouldn't be one of them, though, we're influenced by him enough as it is. That position can be used to get another clan's head support. Probably Hiashi, too, since he's apparently the only one that wouldn't refuse outright. If we offer him a position of power in ROOT, he can make sure that we don't do anything that might harm the Leaf or his clan, which would probably be his main concerns. I'm sure the man would enjoy these shady politics, seeing his love for keikakuing.
Of course, we'd have to trust him not to use that position to strengthen the Hyuuga even more, but we might have to take that risk. He'll definitely get Neji in, to try and see if he can get some of that sweet stellar chakra in his family.
>>
>>2085141
Its me man, i never let a good trauma go unexploited
>>2085145
but we aint in control Tsunade is, all the mind rape would do is make her let us do our thing,"increase her opinions of root" as it were. Shisui's eye is that good. she'd still be her...she'd never know
>>
>>2085154
That's still ROOT ruling Konoha, just having her under us. ROOT should stay in the shadows where it belongs...
Another possibility is not basing ROOT in the village itself at all. Operate as ROOT without the Hokage's consent, until a more viable candidate emerges.
>>
>>2085151
Neji would be a serious asset if he got into root.
>>
>>2085176
And it's pretty much his best possible option in life
>Danzo's training regime, featuring a bunch of forbidden techniques
>Taking on extremely important missions for the Leaf
>A lot more chances to spend time with Tsuki
I'm making some assumptions here, but those three points are very likely.
>>
>>2085172
we are still in the shadows....what part of "it just makes her ok with our existence" are you not getting? it snot making her idolise us, its not making her view us as the boss. Its making her see us as a necessary evil
>>
>>2085176
Neji is a gigantic tool, it would be great to turn him into a useful one.
>>
>>2085196
She's already okay with ROOT. Or would be okay if we talk to her about it.
>>
>>2085172
Yeah but we could end up in jail if the hokage isn't A-OK with this and finds out
And more political strife is not needed for the lead
>>
I think we need a powerful puppet. Tsunade may still be terrified of combat, but if she can get the medical corp back up and running that might be really worth it. Also the most easily manipulated. If we dismantle of office of the hokage, all the power will be split or go solely to the fire diamyo. The latter of which I don't think the clans would be okay with.
>>
>>2085176
Kill Neji, he is too emotional and never trust a traitor, not even one you create. we can make better use of those eyes
It's unnecessary
The the tension at the table is palpable- the choices arrayed before you are mostly poor ones. Men who would likely be openly against your plans, a woman with a foul temper and issues controlling her vices, or what would amount to openly declaring ROOT’s revival with putting forward Danzo as a candidate.
You mentally catalogue some of the alternative candidates you could offer, though each of them have their own failings.
Itachi-sensei would be a great leader, you’re positive- but convincing any of the clan heads of that might just be impossible- and even more so to convince the man himself.
Hiashi Hyuuga is another option- a proven leader and a man deftly able to navigate clan politics. However, the other clans would likely balk at what they would perceive as a blatant power grab.
Although you don’t know much about them, Inoichi Yamanaka and Shikaku Nara also bubble to surface as candidates- but the elder Nara is likely too similar to his son, and as a vassal to the Akimichi, neither of them would be overly fond of overstepping their liege lord, Choza.
Eugh.
You feel pressure beginning to mount in the front of your head as consider the options. You’ll need to decide on something to put forward, equal to whatever Danzo and your father have to offer here; though they are your family, you want- no, you NEED- to be taken seriously here.
Taking a long drink of your tea, you try to clear your head. Surprisingly, the tea helps, somewhat. Maybe that’s why Danzo swears by it?
In the end, you decide to put forward the idea of…..
1. Danzo Shimura as Hokage
2. Tsunade Senju as Hokage
3. Hiashi Hyuuga as Hokage (Dark Horse option)
4. Kakashi Hatake as Hokage
5. Asuma Sarutobi as Hokage
6. Dismantling the Office of Hokage
You frown again.
This is the most pragmatic option. It was likely the only true choice you ever had.
“Tsuki, you look like you have something to say.” Danzo calls to you from across the table.
Opening your eyes, you peer at the other three people sitting at the table.
Danzo is maintaining a serious expression, which isn’t uncommon. Father, meanwhile, has his feet kicked up on the table, reclining in his chair somewhat precariously. A Norihime branded cigarette hangs loosely from his lips, although it isn’t lit.
Maru maintains her smile, but it’s status too seems somewhat precarious as she eyes your father.
“I do.” You state simply.
Your father learns forward, and Danzo maintains his even gaze.
“Tsunade Senju is our best option. Not only does she has connections to father, but she wasn’t in much at all during Minato’s reign as Hokage, from what I know of her. Her status as Sannin carries a lot of weight, especially given Orochimaru’s involvement in the attack on Konoha.”
You smile.
The people have need of a hero- someone who they can rally behind in these dark times. So, we will give them that hero; one all of Konoha already knows.
Danzo’s only reaction is a small smile- while father’s cigarette goes tumbling to the floor.
“Tsunade, huh?” His brow furrows.
“Are you planning on playing her nursemaid? Making sure doesn’t spend her days drunk and gambling away the village’s funds?”
“Yoru- Tsunade is still a Senju, no matter what personal issues she may have fallen upon. She is a Sannin for a reason, and I am confident she could be convinced to take up the role with some work.” Danzo chides.
Father sighs.
“I guess. Still, I’d much rather see you wearing that hat. Besides, you have no idea how she’ll react to what the two of you have been planning.” He continues, running a hand through his hair.
“I am sure she can be reasoned with, Yoru. The grand-niece of Lord Tobirama wouldn’t be so keen to simply disregard his will.” Danzo counters.
“Just make sure to bring a big enough bottle of booze so she doesn’t just flee at the sight of you, old man.” Father surrenders.
“So- I do believe that’s two to one in favor of Lady Tsunade.” Maru says happily. “On to the next item of business!”
“Indeed- we’ll still need to convince her to take up the post.” Father says, composure regained. “Once that is done, we’ll either need her to buy into ROOT’s revival, or at least secure her indifference. Otherwise, we’ll run into trouble.”
“I’ve been thinking about that, too.” You say, piping up. “One of the reasons Minato was able to put an end to the organization before was due to the style of leadership- taking out Danzo essentially toppled everything.” You explain.
“If we are entrenched before her reign begins, and have enough political support, she’ll have no choice but to allow our existence- even if it does lead to some direct oversight. This was essentially your agreement with Lord Third, was it not?” You ask of Danzo.
“More or less, although that was built on our personal relationship. Not particularly relevant to this situation. What do you intend as it’s replacement?” He responds.
“My proposal is this-”
1. Bring Hiashi and the Hyuuga into the fold. Tsunade wouldn’t openly oppose the combined might of the Hyuuga, Aburame and Norihime.
2. Blackmail, or otherwise bribe Tsunade. Her vices are well known, and easily exploitable.
1. Bring Hiashi and the Hyuuga into the fold. Tsunade wouldn’t openly oppose the combined might of the Hyuuga, Aburame and Norihime.
>>
>>2085514
>4. Simply talk to her about ROOT and why it is necessary.
Use the destruction caused by the Konoha Crush as leverage for why ROOT is necessary for the safety of the leaf, and how it could've been preventable if ROOT was allowed to operate.
>1. Bring Hiashi and the Hyuuga into the fold. Tsunade wouldn’t openly oppose the combined might of the Hyuuga, Aburame and Norihime.
And flex our political backing to show that ROOT actually has support within the leaf despite it's past shortcomings.
Fuck yes, Shinobi Quest returned!
Hopefully we'll be able to convince Tsunade to reaccept the necessity of ROOT. It'll broaden Konoha's military latitude, balance out Danzo's ambitions with Kage oversight, and ensure that ROOT won't fall apart if Danzo should get ganked somehow.
“We talk to her, of course. Like any human would.”
Father snorts.
“But- we don’t go into such talks empty handed. With the Aburame already backing us, we are a formidable force. But not insurmountable.” You continue, ignoring his outburst.
“As such, the true breadth of my proposal is this- approach Hiashi and his Hyuuga clan from a position of strength; from this position, we offer him a role within the reforged ROOT. As I said before, simply leading the organization as it was before is folly. Instead, three powers come together to forge a bond stronger than steel.” You finish.
Danzo laughs. Loudly, and outwardly.
“For someone who hasn’t spent much time around the clan elders, you certainly sound like one. Mimicking the bonds of the Ino-Shika-Cho, is that what you intend? It would work, in theory. Just remember, Tsuki- for all their pledges of friendship, the Yamanaka and Nara are subservient to the Akimichi. In return, the Akimichi are benevolent to their vassals. This is Hiashi Hyuuga you speak of; the man will not willingly place his clan beneath any other.”
You smirk.
Danzo, don’t underestimate me. All such partnerships are initially formed amicably- but eventually one of a triumvirate will come to take charge. Hiashi is a shrewd man, it is true, but Hiashi will not lead the Hyuuga forever. Besides, partnership with the Norihime would have it’s benefits, right Father?
Indeed- as our new Aburame friends have already found, having partners with our wealth and connections is a mighty boon indeed. Weapons, funds, technology- I fear to think what the Queen Beetle could accomplish with these assets. Such a bond should be a thing the enemies of Konoha fear.
Danzo ponders your words for several moments- before addressing both Father and yourself.
“It seems you are in agreement in this course of action, then. Tsuki, you will want to join your father at his dinner with Hiashi and the Hyuuga clan tonight. I suggest you have your pitch ready by then.”
“Naturally.” You respond, taking a sip of tea.
“With that settled;” Maru says, pouring everyone new cups of tea, “The last item on the agenda is how to convince Lady Tsunade to accept the appointment of Hokage.”
“We could go to her- but that may not even be necessary.” Danzo says, holding his cup gently.
“That rogue Jiraiya sent her here. I don’t know how he managed to accomplish that, but I suspect that he’d like her to stay in Konoha, for good. As I mentioned earlier, there is a real chance he intends to put her name forward as a candidate for Hokage. If her image is clean of any of our obvious involvement, all the better.” He reports.
“Yes, but waiting until her name is announced is risky, and would likely weaken our bargaining position.” Father counters.
“True. The matter remains then; if we wish to take the initiative in naming Tsunade as candidate, or let the Toad Sage put her forward.” Danzo ponders.
“Are we so sure that he will even put her name in? He could just as easily suggest Kakashi, given the bond between him and Minato.” You interject.
“This is true- but given what has happened, and what I know of Jiraiya….” Danzo thinks aloud.
“He likely blames himself for what has happened. Minato was his student; he may not think it prudent to have another young Shinobi with ties to him, even indirectly, be Hokage. Besides, he will want someone he can trust in charge while he attempts to hunt down Minato; and despite their differences, I guarantee you there is nobody more he trusts than Tsunade Senju- at least, now that Hiruzen has passed on.” Danzo finishes.
Hmm. He does have a point- and he has far more experience with these folk than yourself. How should you proceed?
1. Have father or one of your allies put forward Tsunade as Hokage candidate, after speaking with her.
2. Bet on Jiraiya putting Tsunade forward, keeping your hands clean of the initial selection.
If Jiraiya doesn't put forward Tsunade we're pretty much completely screwed. We're going to have to show our hand and back her eventually anyway, so we might as well just guarantee her nomination and do it now.
“No- we should take it into our own hands. I don’t like the idea of relying on that lout for anything. If need be, I’ll convince her myself.” You announce.
“We shall discuss it with Hiashi once his cooperation is secured; a coalition of powerful clans coming together to ask the legendary Sannin for aid. If she truly understands our need, and still turns us down- well, if it comes to that I’m sure we can come to some sort of deal.” You finish.
“Very well. For now, we shall focus on Hiashi- and I do believe it to be prudent to begin preparing for our dinner.” Father says, standing. “Maru, if you would?”
“Of course, Yoru-dono.” Maru says, rising only to bow. “Tsuki-dono, we have prepared many new outfits from the capital for you- and though our home is currently under construction, hot water still runs to this part of the lower levels, I am told. If you would follow me, I shall draw you a bath.”
Ah- you had nearly forgotten. You probably still look like a disheveled mess.
“Of course.” you rise, turning to the two older men. “If you’ll excuse me…”
Truly, hot baths are the best way to relax. With your path forward laid, the mounting stress has abated. It may not be an easy path, but challenges are made to be surmounted. Besides, you are-
“Tsuki- child, is there a reason you’ve positioned yourself so far below ground? All these tunnels; it reminds me of our warrens.”
You nearly leap out of the bath.
The voice had echoed inside your head, not dissimilar from one of Ino’s techniques.
“Do not be alarmed- it is I, Grandmother. I wished to reach out to you once you had regained consciousness, but there hadn’t seemed to be any prudent time until now.”
“It is rather rude to intrude upon a lady’s bath, Grandmother.”
“Than I shall be brief. I wished to inform you that we were successful in reaching the world below- though I suspect you already knew that to be the case. Halfway through our trip through the portal you had created, you began to dip dangerous low in your chakra reserves, and passed out from the strain. I thought we were lost- until the necklace you bear began to glow on it’s lonesome. We were able to complete the journey, by our Lady’s grace. I regret that we had to flee when the men bearing the eyes of the Otsutsuki arrived on the scene.” She explains.
“So, where are you now?” You ponder.
“We found a link to the land of spirits, not far outside the village’s outskirts; an abandoned shrine, of sorts. We shall endeavor to return to the Great Forest- though it will take some time for us to make it habitable. At such a time, we do hope you can visit; we intend to uphold our end of the pact we’ve struck.” She continues.
“So I will be able to summon your kin?” You ask.
“And more, if you undergo enough training. But, this is a conversation for another time. I shall leave you to your bath, Tsuki-dono.”
Slowly, you feel the presence within your head recede, until you are alone with your thoughts again.
And there are so many things to think about…..
And with that, old man Wargle is about to turn in for the night.
A bit shorter than I would've liked to run, but I do have positive news on that front.
As next week is a holiday week, I will not be able to run my preferred Tues + Thurs schedule- and as such I'll return to this thread on Tuesday to finish us out.
/qst/ is slow enough that it shouldn't be an issue- at least, I believe that to be the case.
Anyway, thanks for turning out for day 2 of 3! And hopefully I'll see you all on Tuesday for the final part of the first thread of Shinobi Quest: The Return!!
excellent, things are proceeding better then i thought they would while reading this thread.
the two biggest forseeable problems i see is haishi might not let his greed take a hold of himself to allow danzo and co to commit to ROOT and other of our shenanigans, and the BIGGEST problem i personally see is i'm fairly convinced tsunade is gonna completely fuck this up by straight out turning down the Hokage position, thus leaving us in a position of oh shit cause then kakashi is definitely taking control and hes not gonna tolerate our shit one bit.
>>
They'll choose hinata or nori. Hit tsuki right in the feels.
>>
>>2086425
I thought about that, but they already have snakes and toads. Also, they're both our friends so we could go full diplomacy instead of fighting. They should trust us way more than the giant angry monsters that tell them to kill us in their dreams.
>>
>>2086306
Kushina is impulsive and irritable as shit. Tsunade is irritable, but not actually impulsive enough to just punch a motherfucker at an international summit with no regard to consequence. And then there's the fact that there's very little in the manga or anime that directly demonstrates Kushina's capabilities. With Hiashi you can at least extrapolate based on what other Hyuuga can do, but Kushina is kind of a blank space and entirely her own thing.
>>
>>2086306
I checked the archives, without Kyuubi Kushina's body is permanently fucked to not be able to naturally heal, meaning that she needs periodic healing to not die.
If Tsunade can't completely fix that, then Kushina's out as a candidate, but if she can then Kushina might actually be a serious contender if she can keep her temper under control.
Interestingly enough, I made the roll to determine Kushina's condition a very long time ago.
After a relaxing bath, you summon Maru to assist in preparing for dinner with the Hyuuga.
As she dries your hair, you cannot help but feel a bit of apprehension in the air- not from yourself, but from your loyal maid.
“Maru, is something on your mind? I can’t help but notice that you seem a bit… distracted.” You inquire.
She stops grooming you only momentarily- likely to gather her thoughts before continuing.
“Your senses really have improved if you were able to notice my idle thoughts, Tsuki-dono. I apologize.” She responds.
Flicking your eyes to your right, you see her bowing at your side.
“No need. I simply was wondering what would distract you so.” You say impassively.
“It’s just- I’ve been around you since you were a small girl; watching you grow has been a uniquely rewarding experience for me. However… it seems like the little girl I helped raise has become a woman seemingly overnight. It merely surprised me, is all.” She admits.
“Have I truly become so different?” You muse aloud. “I suppose so. I’ve been through quite a lot these past months. Does the change bother you?” You ask.
“Not particularly- you’ve become a lot more like your father, in a lot of ways. I see some of Danzo-san in you as well. Sitting in on that meeting has shown me just how much you’ve changed.” She replies.
You suppress a laugh. You certainly have grown, that much is certain. But then again, should this be something to be so proud of? Danzo and Father are definitely people to idolize, but they are still human, each with their own quirks. Maybe… that isn’t what she means, though. It’s hard to believe the girl you were in the spring compared to now, with winter basically upon you.
Is this… really for the best?
1. You are growing into the woman you need to be- what Konoha needs you to be. There’s no shame in it.
2. Maybe you are going a little too fast. No need to abandon your childhood so readily.
3. You can still have fun with your friends while doing the work that must be done. You haven’t become a hermit yet.
Eventually, childhood does come to an end. There’s no denying that. You’ve heard stories of shinobi fighting in bloody battles younger than you were when you were initiated into the academy. In contrast, you’ve lived naught but a peaceful life until just recently.
Simply yearning for those times without doing what is necessary to bring them back is pointless folly. Konoha needs people who will do what must be done to keep it safe- and you are happy to be among them.
Thankfully, those you’ve grown close with will be there beside you- and hard work necessitates a suitable amount of rest and relaxation. You doubt your friends will allow you to become too much like Kogoto Aburame without a fight, at least.
You smile.
“In some ways, I still have a lot of growth left before me. But I do believe the path I’m on is the right one. But, I’ll always have the memories of the peaceful times, and hold them close. I owe my future self that much, at least.
“Besides, I think those close to me will always make me smile. Thank you, Maru. For all you’ve done for me- and my family.”
Rising, you give your maid a hug- which she gladly returns.
“Now, Tsuki-dono, I made a point of acquiring a few things while attending your Father in the Capital. A dinner with high society demands you look that part, after all!” Maru announces, as several servants bring in what looks to be a “portable” closet. Nevermind the fact that it took four men to bring it in; you want to see what’s inside!
As your maid opens the doors, you see several outfits prepared for you. Looking over them, you can’t help but imagine wearing each one to the Hyuuga estate.
But, which one will be best?
Well, the party members who shifted weren’t there for long. Just long enough for our wild magic caster to shit out another 16 wild magic spells, which proceeded to fuck with everyone. The best of which gave everyone in the party major curses, and summoned Death to claim their souls. Death stuck around for a bit, but fucked off after seeing all the shit that happened. We also made Skeletor the Grim Reaper.
It ended with the party teleporting back into our realm with a lucky as fuck teleport wild magic, along with the bar maid(transformed into a door somehow) the shapeshifting drunk who is now best friends with the dimensional gnome, the psychic mary sue who transformed into a dragon held down by chains over lava(completely accidental), and our strongest spellcaster dead by a literal instadeath spell.
I then proceeded to have my paladin, who I named Gary Motherfucking Oak, tame the dragon-turned Mary Sue, completely legitimately as well so he couldn’t even complain about it.
Eventually, you settle on a subtle black dress. To a casual observer, it might seem almost plain- but the feel of the silk on your skin and between your fingers tells a far different story.
“Like it, do you? I honestly thought you might pick something a little flashier; but then again, this will go quite well with your father’s suit.” Maru says, giving you a once over.
Just as well- you had no intention of wearing something similar to what you wore for the exam final rounds. It was beautiful, but what had Kogoto called it? Garish?
Hiashi and the Hyuuga elders would likely have the same opinion.
As you think further on this, Maru does what she does best, primping and pampering you for the night ahead.
~~~~~~~~

Some time later, you’re escorted to meet your father, who decided on a classic black suit, with a white shirt beneath. Catching a glimpse of his tie, you can see it has the clan symbol of the Norihime stitched in white thread near the top.

No mistaking what you’re representing tonight, then.

“Ah- look at you! The very image of beauty before my eyes! Good thing I have my trusty sidearm to keep the boys at bay!” Father says, producing a simple polished white cane.

“How many of those do you have? Here I was thinking it was only the one.” You tease.

“Is having a formal and casual selection of tools such a bad thing? Regardless, they would hardly compare to your collection of footwear.” He fires back.

You stick your tongue out at him.

“Keep it out too long and Danzo is liable to keep it one of his preservation jars.” Father responds with a laugh.

You shoot him a look as the two of you make your way to the carriage prepared close to one of the side entrances to the ROOT compound.

“It isn’t really that far, you know.” You quip, taking his hand as he helps you up.

In response, he pats his leg.

“Always make sure to play the part properly, my dear.” He says with a wink.

On queue, the doors shut- and the driver of the carriage urges the horses to action.

Once we arrive, it’s likely all business. Are you ready?” Father asks, his tone not watching the smile on his face.

“As ever. Dinner is a mere formality- the discussion afterwards is where we must impress.” You answer.

Just remember, it’s Hiashi we need to focus on. Your plan for unity among ROOT and our families lives or dies by his choice.” He reminds you.

This is just the beginning- I don’t plan on failing here.” You report, eyes focused on the moon high in the sky.

So it goes, as the carriage pulls through the empty Konoha streets.

The perks of there being so many of them (they are rabbits, after all) is that there's at least one of them that focuses on most conceivable options. They are the true generalist option in a lot of ways.

They don't have any ultra high-powered techniques and forms like the beasts would've provided, and they aren't as good as the snakes at stealth or being YUUUUGE like the Toads.

Instead, they give you a little bit of everything. Shigure is also one of the best when it comes to swordsmanship- he's had centuries of practice.
>>
>>2090542
And then there's grandma, whose chakra reserves rival that of a tailed beast.
Her skills are likely no less impressive.
>>
>>2090542
It also probably helps that we were directly responsible for getting them off their goddess forsaken moon, and that they're going to be grateful for it every day for the rest of their lives.

Also, semi-prophet of their goddess and carrying her chakra around our neck.

If the rabbits had Social Links, we'd have to be close to maxed out by default. The condition for signing their contract was a near epic deed that required divine intervention.

In what seems like a blink of the eye, you find the carriage turning down the familiar streets leading to the Hyuuga compound.

As it pulls to a stop, you look out your window to admire the palatial compound of the Hyuuga. While it’s been a bit of a second home for you these past weeks, you haven’t truly taken the time to appreciate it until now. From what Hinata’s told you, it dates back right to the time of the Village’s founding, and the style definitely shows it- it bears more than a passing resemblance to the old clan castles you can see in rural areas.

Before long, the door to the carriage is opened by your driver- and your father exits. In a fluid motion, he offers you his hand to help you down, which you gladly take.

At the front of the compound, the Hyuuga standing guard bow, opening the large gate doors leading further in.

“Master Hiashi and the rest of the clan await you inside- please, come this way.” One guard says, breaking off from his compatriot to lead you inside the compound.

Both you and your father are lead directly to the grand dining hall- as if you didn’t know the way already.

But, this is likely the standard procedure when hosting high profile guests; you’re vaguely familiar from how involved Maru was in such a process when Father would host people from outside the village.

Mere moments later, the door to the grand dining hall is opened. Inside, the hall has been decorated to perfection, and several tables are full with Hyuuga clansmen of all ages. Sometimes it is easy to forget how large the Hyuuga really are- they easy equal the Uchiha and Aburame clans in size when gathered in one place.

As you enter, the guests all rise, at once- and you can’t help but be somewhat amused. Isn’t Hiashi going a little far for what was to originally be a simple dinner?
>>
>>2090642
Well, I think the swords would be the last thing on peoples minds right now would be the swords. Maybe we can even alter them to look differently and only use some techniques with them selectively. I guess it would be more prudent to seek more diplomatic ways, but if they refuse us stealing it will be harder I think.
>>
>>2090655
He's trying to impress us. Show us the weight of the clan. A bit ham-handed, but it likely is a result of pressure from the Clan Elders, trying to show how important they are to the honored guests.

On queue, the clansmen return to their seating; except Hiashi and Hinata, who stands at his side. Both are well dressed- in the traditional clan attire you’ve seen many Hyuuga wear. It’s a rare outfit for Hinata, however; but she wears it well.

“Please, my esteemed guests- I offer you a seat at my table. Let me officially bid you welcome to the home of my clan.” Hiashi says, arms outstretched.

“My daughter and I are most honored by your hospitality! I thank you all for making time for this gathering.” Father responds, giving a polite bow, which you mimic.

A show of force, then? He certainly didn’t need to have nearly the entire clan attend…

As you approach Hiashi’s table, you can’t help but let your eyes wander. While many of the Hyuuga have similar styles of dress to Hiashi’s family, with a notable exception. Only those seated at the main table lack the telltale green marking on their head- the Curse Mark of the Branch Hyuuga family. Most of them usually keep such a thing hidden, as Neji always seemed to- but here, at the table with their Lord, the lack of such covering seems a conscious choice.

A show of submission of the Branch House before the Main as well? What was Hiashi playing at?

You also cannot help but notice a specific absence, now that he has come to mind.

Neji is nowhere to be seen within the dining hall.
>>
>>2090668
>altering literal masterpieces in anyway

Anon what
>>
>>2090675
Oh. Oh my. He's trying to show us the internal clan politics. It's likely to be followed up by a suggestion we assist, with the assistance doing something implicating if it ever got out.

The lack of Neji shows that he's become significantly more cuntish, or at least that's the sort of reputation they're trying to impose.

The point is that stealing the sword is a good way to become missing-nin when there is a decent likelihood that we could get it without having to steal it.

>>
>>2090727
I was just shitting around, but that's actually surprisingly viable if we play it right. I doubt it would be worth losing the Hyuugas though, but if there were other factors that would for whatever reason make the deal unacceptable, then it would be a decent option.
>>
>>2090736
Considering his personality, I seriously doubt hiashi would so easily order the death of his nephew since he still holds guilt over his brother's sacrifice. Not unless negi was truely irredeemable.
>>
Guys, Neji can be our Itachi.

>Dissatisfaction with current clan politics publicly known within the clan
>Prodigious skill and understanding of clan techniques and Kekkei Genkai
>Still entirely loyal to Konoha, even having a few friends on hand

All we need to do is have him commit an act against his clan that Hiashi can turn to his advantage (Killing the clan elders who disagree with him), then send him off to "a group I know who can finish off his training. Sorry, Danzo, I'm playing this one real close to the chest."

By the time the timeskip ends, we'll have ourselves our own S-Rank deniable asset. Possibly an Akatsuki member who reports directly to ROOT. Get fucked, Pain.
>>
>>2090736
Hiashi might see the wisdom in it. This might be a big goddamn test to see if we'd throw away a useful servant on the orders of a clan instead of making the smart play.

Why else would he surround himself so obviously with Branch members? Hiashi is smarter than just using them as a show of force. Could be a hint.

As you take your seats, you notice a smaller face peering at you from behind Hiashi. Though you had only seen her in passing while staying at the compound, you would guess this is Hinata’s younger sister, Hanabi. Her gaze is mostly curious, and probably harmless, you decide.

As quickly as she appeared, you see her vanish behind the outline of her father.

Hinata quickly leans back and gives you a small smile- but she too vanishes behind Hiashi’s profile quickly enough. Although you expected no different, your seats are quite close- only Father sits between you and the Lord of the Hyuuga.

“Now that our guests have arrived, we can begin dinner in earnest. My thanks to you all who have taken time out of your duties to join us tonight.” Hiashi announces, finally sitting at his seat at the table’s center.

As if they could refuse, right?

Dinner is brought out in short order- and it’s obvious that a large amount of effort has been put into the meal. Your time spent at the compound lacked any sort of large familial gathering- you’d gathered quite quickly that besides their immediately kin, the many Hyuuga families rarely come together to share meals like this.

Once everyone has been served, Hiashi bids everyone to begin their meal.

As everyone begins to eat, you quickly notice that aside from ambient noises of utensils, nobody seems to be speaking openly. Out of politeness, possibly? Father has always been such a conversationalist that even dinner with guests was rarely quiet for long.

Thankfully after a few minutes, Father opts to break the silence, making idle conversation with Hiashi, complementing the food. This leads into other pleasantries, but you know before long that line of discussion will drop.

You figure it best to play it safe- which means, not bothering Hiashi while him and father speak.

Instead, you initially focus on trying to get Hinata’s attention. The lack of substance in Hiashi and Father’s conversation bores you, and you figure that chatting up Hinata might be better- the only difficulty being her location relative to yours. Shifting in your seat a little, you peer down the table at the table at Hinata.

She seems focused on eating, so you leave her be until she seems more or less finished with her food.

At this point, you give her a small wave- this gets her attention, but she just shakes her head gently. With that prompting, you turn to your plate and finish your meal.

You aren’t entirely sure, but you believe Hiashi may have cast a glance your way during the exchange….

W-wait, what was it before?
Did we really lose points for trying to talk to our pal.
This the worse.
Well whatever, now that his attention is on us it's time for that good old Norihime charm.
>>
>>2090897
Seriously. Hiashi gives no fucks about our friendship. He simply sees this as a way to gain what he wants. Unfortunately for him, so do we.

Dinner continues this way for a while- until Father excuses himself to use the bathroom. As he stands, he turns to you and gives you a wink.

As he walks away, this leaves you face to face with the man himself- Hiashi Hyuuga.

To your surprise, Hiashi gives you a warm smile.

“Enjoying the dinner, Tsuki-chan? Hopefully you aren’t finding it too boring.”

Oh.

There have been hints sprinkled throughout. Anons do seem to mostly have a handle on him- he's not really that different from his canonical incarnation.

What Tsuki knows is that he's a very traditional man, and can be very strict with his children. He's been a power player more or less since taking power over his clan, and many people brand him as such.

Remember that events that softened him in canon haven't happened here.

There is a difference between being confident and assertive, and being disrespectful.

“Ah, I simply meant to thank Hinata properly for watching over me at the hospital. This was my first chance, I hope I didn’t offend.” You say, attempting to play the small blunder off as nothing.

In the distance, Hinata makes a small noise.

“She was quite worried about you- and you’ve done your fair share of looking out for her as well. I was happy to house you while your father made his trip to the capital- it was the least I could do in return.” He says, maintaining the small smile.

Well, he does care for his children, even if he’s a bit uptight.

Gaara is my first choice, but he's probably getting Shukaku ripped out of him right now. Toneri's another choice, even though he's pissed at us right now we did promise to visit him later on; perhaps something might come of that.

More realistically we could try Sasuke or perhaps Itachi, but I think ROOT will keep those from going anywhere.

Maybe Neji?

“She’s my squadmate- and great shinobi in her own right. Beyond that, though, she’s my friend. It wouldn’t behoove a shinobi to not do everything in their power to help those who they keep close- it’s the Will of Fire; our duty to Konoha.”
Hiashi seems somewhat surprised by your response.

“You sound like Lord Hiruzen. Most children your age wouldn’t mention that philosophy so readily. Mitarashi-san does often speak Hinata’s praises during their lessons; it relieves me no small measure to have Hinata surrounded by such capable people.” He admits.

Neiji has major baggage and the curse mark.
Gaara we kinda borked up and he nearly killed us, despite the Distraction Smooch no Jutsu.

Deferring to Danzo would allow for a nice segue into the ROOT discussion, but it might be premature at this point. Probably better to get him thinking fondly about the meaning of duty, then move in to discussing the darker side of what that duty entails.

He and Danzo have shown me much and taught me many things. That that everything in the Light has something in the dark watching it. That the life of a Shinobi is one of Duty and Sacrifice both sides learn upon one another like ninja of Konaha must lean on one another and work together... Like Hinata and I
>>
>>2091131
Gaara is stupid dead. Toneri is an unknown element, and kind of insane. Neji is a possibility, but byakugan doesn't really mesh with our power. Sharingan would be super amplifying though. Imagine that black fire being boosted into our plasma? We are a natural ninjutsu queen, and ole swirly eye makes that even stronger. Byakugan is good, but just not anywhere nearly the same use for a caster. If you could mix lee genes into the hyuga clan, potential for a monster. Maybe hanabi? Cause NaruHina is the best ship and I don't think we can let it stray.

Actually...Danzo and Hiruzen's friendship was very notable. Tsuki could possibly segue into knowing the Third rather well via Danzo's stories.

If any polite disbelief is expressed over how the two disagreed with each other, perhaps point out that you need to know a person very well indeed to predict their objections and arguments without even being in the same room together. Danzo and Hiruzen made an entire career out them being the left and right hands that didn't know what the other was doing, but were still functional.

I want to be poetic and say worked in harmony, and from a certain perspective that's true, but....Danzo. He fucked up too often and hard for me to say that with a straight face.

“As a shinobi, meeting someone who had given so much to Konoha meant a lot to me. Even in that short time, he gave me council that I intend to follow.” You explain. “Hinata holds that same philosophy, even if she doesn’t name it as such.”

He nods slowly, closing his eyes.

[HIASHI OPINION +1]

“Yes, I suppose even my little Hinata is a true Shinobi now. You both aided those around you ably- and fought with conviction. You both did well in the exams- even if Hinata’s run was cut short. Your abilities were certainly quite the sight to behold- I think I speak for most when I say we certainly weren’t expecting that much a spectacle.” He gives the compliment freely- although his smile has vanished.

I had to hid my trump card, secrecy as as much a weapon and tool as any other. As for Gaara

I was an effective counter, while i could defeat him, Hinata could defeat me...Choosing your marks carefully is as part of being a Shinobi as any. Hinata put up a good fight for someone who was her counter. Were we in a real fight that is where I her team mate would aid her. We are stronger together

No point in defending Hinata. We just need to make her strong enough to defend herself.

>2. Come to Hinata’s defense; Gaara was a monster.

I have a bad feeling about 1. It sounds like reminding him of basic knowledge he should know, and doesn't seem to advance the conversation in any direction we want.

I'm also pretty sure 3 and false modesty isn't helpful.

I'm sticking with 2, on grounds that we'll lead into dangerous threats that can be unexpected and we need to be prepared for them in advance, possibly by ROOT like means.

Though I don't recall why Hinata needed to be defended.

“That was part of the plan.” You say with a small smirk.

“Although, not all of it. Initially my family and I opted to keep knowledge of the ability I possess close to our chest- we were unsure of what it was capable of. Frankly, it took time to practice and utilize; that secrecy bore fruit when time for the exams came, as people didn’t know what to expect. Such things must be handled with care; this too is my responsibility to my family and to Konoha at large.” You explain.

That’s why you brand your branch members and strictly monitor them, right Hiashi?

The urge to say it is tantalizing. But you won’t. Not yet, at least.

“In this, we agree. Powerful techniques are a double-edged blade; if they are freely taken or copied, they will do as much harm to us as good. Some shinobi families would do well to exercise more caution.” He says, looking out over the crowd of gathered Hyuuga.

Caution, huh? You’d wager it’s more about control, but at the same time, he isn’t incorrect. The idea of enemy shinobi having access to your Stellar abilities isn’t something you’d really thought much about- and admittedly it isn’t a pleasant idea.

[HIASHI OPINION +1]

It’s at this point, father returns.

“Sorry for the absence! Hopefully my daughter hasn’t talked your ear off, Lord Hiashi!”

Hardly. If anything, we didn’t get to talk enough….

“Nothing of the sort. Lady Tsuki was simply humoring me with a bit a conversation.” Hiashi replies.

“Speaking of which- if you don’t mind, she’ll be sitting in on our business later. If you don’t mind, of course.” Father puts forward.

Hiashi gives you a hard look. His face would be almost impassive, if not for the slightly raised eyebrow.

“....Very well then. She’s quite capable- I can see where it comes from, now.” He says after appraising you.

[HIASHI’S OPINION MEETS THE REQUIREMENT TO PROCEED TO THE NEXT STAGE!]

“It’s all from her mother, I assure you.” Father responds, giving the Lord of the Hyuuga his winning Norihime smile.
