[ARTIFICER QUEST PART 14 START]

Giving your work area one last sweep, you take a deep breath. The shop's certainly come a long way since you moved in just the other day.

Checking the time, it's now almost 7 pm. As such, you've got a few choices for what you can do tonight.

Food is a good place to start, though the question is whether you want to grab something here quickly and do something else or meet up with someone to grab dinner.

You could also head out to a bar. With everything that's been going on, you could use a drink. You're sure Dutch would be more than willing to go out with you if you could track him down.

On the other hand, you do still have that launcher design to test out. It'll be a bit iffy to go out into the woods this late, but you could still do it.

In a similar line of thought, you could use the dark to do some investigating of your own. There's that mysterious contact of Archmage's who vanished a while back, and there's also a certain female vampire who you need to keep an eye out for.

All in all, you have a lot you could do and very little time to do it in. The choice is what to do tonight:
> Go out to eat with someone (who?)
> Eat here, go out drinking with Dutch
> Eat here, go test out your launcher prototype
> Eat here, go investigate Archmage's missing contact
> Eat here, go hunt down that female vampire

Thinking about it, you did say that you would sell Sun your launcher design if you tested it out, so maybe it's about time to do just that.

Taking out what you don't need, you make sure that the prototype is unloaded and that the test round is secure; you don't want this thing accidentally detonating while on your back.

Thinking about it, the Genovese would likely be rather interested in your design; probably would be more interested in that underslung version you don't quite have fleshed out for your Clockwork Rifle considering that they mainly use guns.

All in all, you could ask Dutch to join you in this little venture.

So, after grabbing your Broadsword and securing your pistol to where you normally keep your knife, you head out into night and lock up your shop.

Now, where to?

"Alright, John, let's see whatcha got".

You don't need to look over your shoulder to pick up on Dutch's palpable excitement as he's been giddy since you ran into him. All it took to get him on board was mentioning that you were testing out a new prototype. He was practically jumping with joy on the walk to the forest while you kept looking around to make sure neither of you were followed. You didn't see anything, but that doesn't mean very much nowadays.

Reaching into your bag, you pull out the launcher, "This is it".

"What's what now?" Your old friend gives the item an experimental poke, "The hell is this anyways?"

"Something I thought up on a whim," Grabbing the training round from out of your pack, you casually release the breach and load the round in, "Figured I could experiment with different types of ammo with a larger caliber bullet so I have more room to work with".

"Alright," Dutch doesn't sound too impressed, "Well, are you going to take a shot with it or what?"

"Don't rush me," You give him a look as you snap the breach closed with a satisfying click.

Raising the launcher up at a tree about 15 meters away, you make sure that neither of you will be hit by a ricochet before firing.

Considering you've never fired this weapon before, your shot isn't all that bad.

That said, you completely miss your intended target; the round sailing right past where you aimed and impacting against a rock behind it.

To your, and Dutch's, considerable surprise, the round doesn't hit like a regular bullet; instead of impacting into the rock it shatters on impact sending bits and pieces everywhere.

"What the fuck?" Dutch sums up your thoughts rather well after the two of you poke your heads around the trees you ducked behind after it went off, "What did you put in that bullet John??"

"Nothing, actually," You start walking over to examine what exactly happened, "It was just meant to be a place-holder round until I could come up with something to fit into it".

Poking around the site of impact, you note that while the round barely penetrated the rock, there are shards of metal scattered into its surface.

Well, this is something new.

> Congratulations! You can now manufacture: Hollow-Point Rounds!

"Did it work or not?" You friend walks up next to you after you pull away from your examination.

Looking towards him, you note that Dutch is looking between you and the launcher, "It's not entirely a write off; I'll probably need to work on it a bit more to improve the accuracy. The round is something else though..."

You trail off there and shrug, "Let's head back for now".

Dutch falls into line with you as you grab your things and begin you walk back to the Outer Wall.

While you're walking...

"You guys make any progress on dealing with this vamp infestation?" After a few minutes of silence, you decide to speak up. Might as well keep up to date on how they're coming along.

Dutch doesn't say anything for a moment, mulling over his words, "I personally haven't been doing too much; Gladiator's been having me out helping with nighttime watches and patrols. He's been doing some... I think he called it 'counter-intelligence'. I dunno what exactly he gets up to, but apparently the guy managed to track down and uproot a few that infiltrated our ranks".

"How did he know they were vamps?" Aside from the woman being beautiful to an almost disturbing degree, you probably wouldn't accuse her of being a blood-sucker on appearance alone.

"Gladiator discovered that they start burning when exposed to sunlight," Your friend grimaces as he talks, "The last group he went after, he disabled them all then dragged them out into the streets. The ones that caught on fire were left to burn".

"Sheesh," You exhale deeply at that news, "Gladiator doesn't fuck around does he?"

Dutch laughs, but you both know it's forced, "There's a rumor floating around that he's Ex-Royal Guard from one of the monarchy Haven-Cities. Other than that, not too much is known about him but that really does tell you all you need to know".

"Yeah, no shit," Looking around to make sure the two of you are alone, you bring up the next topic on your list, "Hey, Dutch, when's the last time you used a rifle?"

"In combat? It's definitely been a while. I have been practicing with one so I'm not rusty. Why are you asking?" He gives you a curious look at your question.

"I... I've got another design that I've been siting on for a bit. I haven't put any actual work into it because I didn't think it was necessary, but..." You glance over at him for a moment, "I can't help but think that our current weapons and gear are just not going to cut it against these things. Hell, the most effective thing I've got is a power tool. Anyways, I'll see how it turns out and let you know in the future".

"Right..." Dutch looks at you for a moment, what you think is concern passing over his features before they return to neutral.

Oh, yeah, that's right, "Well, you'll be stopping by anyways in all likelihood; Archmage is trying to set up some kind of contract with me".

"Really? First I've heard of it... Ah, well, Archmage has been buried in books for a while now so I guess that's why he hasn't gotten around to talking to me," He shrugs.

The two of you stay silent as you re-enter the Outer Wall, passing through the guards on night shift without an issue.

Making it back to the city proper, you and Dutch head over to an open bar, incidentally the one that you ran into Gladiator in all those months ago, and head for the counter.

"So, how are we doing this?" Your old friend gives you a roguish smile as he goes to order drinks, clearly in the mood to unwind.

"Let's keep things light tonight, we both have to walk home and I don't want to deal with you trying to make out with me again".

Dutch gives you a slight glare at the reminder of the little prank you pulled on him last time you went out for drinks, but he turns to the slightly bemused bartender anyways, "Four beers it is".

The man, who you kind of recognize from the last time you were here, quickly fills your orders and slides the four tall glasses of alcohol to you two.

With a clink, you both take a sizable chunk out of your drinks in the first gulp, slamming them down in unison back onto the counter. Laughing at the old habit of yours, Dutch goes in for another sip; you're about to follow him when you catch something out of the corner of your eye.

There's a few gentlemen, and a few ladies, looking over at you. Most of them are from your previous display, but one group in particular is giving Dutch the stink-eye.

If this is what you think it is... Shit... You thought this was a neutral bar. Focus sharpening for a moment, you take stock of the situation.

You've got your broadsword on your hip and your pistol across your chest. Dutch has his two revolvers holstered and his knife is likely tucked away somewhere.

The group you can't get a very good line of sight on what they might be carrying, but they're all at least your size and/or build.

Not that you're entirely concerned at the situation; you're aware of what's going on and while Dutch has his hands full with his beer, you know from experience that he can draw and snap-shot in a split second.

No, the real concern is that the bar is full of random people and that you don't entirely want to ruin this pleasant evening.

Now what?
> Make small talk with Dutch, see what happens

Well, this could go a few ways. Might as well just chill your heels for now.

"So, Dutch, you make any new friends recently?" Sipping on your own beer, you ask your double-meaning question.

He grins slightly at you, "No. Tell me, does anyone look friendly?"

"Yeah," Placing your glass back down on the counter, you slide it in the direction of the group, "There are a few". Thinking about it for a moment, you consider another reason why a couple of guys would be pissed at you two, "Dutch... Did you pork some broad and now her dad's pissed at you?"

"Hey, that's just rude," Dutch doesn't seem too plussed at the developing situation, "And 'broad'? C'mon, John, I have some standards".

"Bullshit, Dutch. You're into blondes you have shit taste," Shaking your head, you finish off your first beer. Knowing how these kinds of situations go, you're going to want to not be sober.

Reaching out for your second glass, you see that three of the group are standing up and beginning to head right for Dutch. Clicking your tongue, you take another gulp of your beer as you subtlety reach for your sword. There's a grin slowly adorning your friend's face as they approach and he pushes his drink away to get ready for the coming confrontation, though that's stopped by the sound of the door opening.

"...as sayin- Hey! Look who is here!"

Glancing past Dutch, you raise an eyebrow as you see Vera, Sam, and dark-haired man who you can only assume is their boss "Ryouma". He's definitely experienced in dangerous situations, as he immediately picks up on the strange mood in the room and steps in front of his two companions.

"Is there a problem here?" His question is neutral and even, but the look in his eyes gives the group pause. That, combined with Dutch turning towards them with a cock-sure grin, causes them to falter. One of them sneers at your friend and another looks like he's about to spit on him, but a very casual unclasping of one of his revolver's holsters makes the three 'gentlemen' walk back to their table without an incident.

"Sheesh, what was their problem?" Vera walks over and glances between Ryouma, you, and the group now sitting back down.

Looking at him and Sam, they do actually want an answer to that question.

"I hope you weren't trying to perform your good deed of the day there," You wave the three mercs over to join you at the counter.

"And why is that?" Sam speaks up, sliding into her stool.

"Because we're not exactly the 'poor', 'innocent', 'good' guys who were about to be attacked by the 'bad', 'evil' gents over there. Speaking of which," You turn to your friend, "What the hell was that about Dutch?"

To your slight irritation, he starts chuckling, "Just a couple o' little Gambino boys looking for a fight. They must have my face on file or somethin' for them to recognize me. Still, can't say I'm not disappointed; was lookin' forward to a good brawl".

You stare blankly at Dutch as you process the sheer stupidity of his statement. After a moment, you do what you normally do in these situations.

"Ow!"

Raising your hand up from where you whacked him over the head with it, you turn back to your drink, "You should know better than to pick a fight in a neutral bar, Dutch. All that does is give the guy in charge," You motion over to the bartender who is standing right next to the back door glaring at you all, "A hard time".

"I see," Ryouma sits down right next to you, "You're just a pair of regular troublemakers, aren't you?"

"That's an understatement, really," You grab onto your glass proper, before raising it towards the bartender and tapping it a few times, "As thanks for helping to prevent a bloodbath, the first round's on me".

"Well, cheers to that!" Vera gets to work on her beer as soon as the man places it in front of her.

Ryouma, on the other hand, just idly runs his fingers over the rim, "John, right? Sam and Vera mentioned that you took their order; thanks for that by the way. I was just curious to hear that you're an independent Smith. I don't think there's another in the city aside from you".

"Disreputable," You nod in understanding before digging into your bag and placing your Proof for General Smithing on the table, "You don't have to worry about that now".

"Huh, look at that," The man, who is definitely Eastern you note, examines the metal before flipping it back to you, "Good to know I'm not getting ripped off by some back-alley smith".

"HA!" Dutch cuts in, grabbing you by the shoulder as he swings his drink around, "Shoulda seen this guy back when were in Airgrid! He'd get these repair jobs to be completed with a screwdriver and a box of scrap!"

His tirade is stopped by you grabbing him by the jaw, "Ignore my friend here, I have several dozen kilos of iron ingots that I'll be using to complete your order".

To their credit, the three mercs just look amused as you turn to Dutch, "You seriously gonna bring up that time?"

"Only if we're talking about you getting your ass shot," Shaking your head, you take another sip of your beer.

From the side, you note Vera lean over the counter with apt interest, "Oh? You know some good stories?"

"N-" "Yep," You talk right over Dutch, shooting him a slight grin, "It's a good thing we're not going at it ham in fist tonight, otherwise I'd have to worry about you trying to fight a horse again".

"Not this story again," Your friend groans, looking to drown out this part with alcohol.

The three mercs are all waiting on you to continue with baited breath, so you turn to them, "See Dutchy and I got hammered one night and, on the way home, he had the bright idea of pick a fight with some posh's horse. To his credit, he won the fight with the horse but got his ass beat by one of the merchant's guards".

"You always bring this up, John. Can't you just drop it?"

"I always bring it up because I had to drag your bloody ass home that night after apologizing profusely to those stuck up cunts".

"Whatever; I'm sure I can dredge up a few stories about you".

"I'm sure you could," Casually chugging another part of your beer, you get ready to really deliver the killing blow. "Hey, Dutch, how's your 'girlfriend' doing?"

There's a strangled choking sound that comes from your friend, eliciting a slightly smug smile from you.

"You've got a girlfriend?" Ryouma looks slightly curious, not catching onto the double meaning of your words.

"Yep! There's this blonde back in Airgrid th-" You cheerily respond until Dutch slaps a hand over your mouth.

"We both swore..." He starts, a pointed look in his eyes, "That we wouldn't talk about that ever again".

Muffled laughter is the only response he gets as you let mirth roll over you. Eventually, with a slight click of disgust, Dutch lets you go and goes back to his drink.

"What, you don't like the upper-crust Dutchy?"

"Fuck you, John"

"Love you too"

"You two really are close, huh," Ryouma asks as Sam and Vera start talking between themselves.

"Yep," You give him a slight grin, "Been close since forever. By the way..." You lean closer and speak quietly, "What's your deal? Those gents don't look like they'd back down to just any random merc".

"Well..." He starts, looking off to the side as if something on the wall will help him collect his words.

"The three of us usually run escort for caravans running through the Badlands or really anywhere so long as they pay. Anyways, I guess we have a reputation or something; I don't really know those guys," Ryouma says it all with a small smile. It's not deceptive, nor is it really trying to hide something, but you find it oddly hard to get a solid read on the merc leader. Guess he's used to hiding his intent due to his work.

"Works for me," You shrug as you finish off your mug, motioning for the bartender to come and fill you back up.

As he does so, you check up on the group in question again. They don't look entirely happy, but you guess they're not going to try to start something as they collect their things and leave.

Sighing slightly in relief, you turn back to Ryouma.

"How did you end up meeting Sam and Vera?" Might as well continue the pleasant conversation while you still can.

Ryouma is in the middle of finishing off his drink when you ask, eyeing you for a moment before putting the now empty glass on the counter, "I used to run solo, 'till I ended up on an escort job with those two. Things went well until they didn't, some case of a mistaken identity resulted in a few kill-teams being sent at us. As you can imagine, things dissolved pretty quickly after that and the three of us managed to escape in the ensuing clusterfuck. We've had to fight, and kill, pretty much everyone else involved in that job, but once everything was said and done we decided to stick together. And the rest is history".

He gives you a small grin as he finishes up his story and orders another drink.

All that talk of mercenaries and double-crossing reminds you of something that you haven't thought about in a while, "Say, would you happen to know any other mercs?"

"Maybe, you got any names?"

"I know their monikers: Rider, Dozer, Bishop, and Creep; don't know their actual names though," It's a long shot, but at this point you're not expecting much.

"Hmm..." He thinks about it for a moment, "No, not really, can't say I have. I can ask around if you want; are they friends of yours?"

"Something like that, I think I owe them a drink more than anything else," You chug more of your beer down before thinking of something else you can ask about, "About that order, is there anythin..."

You're about to ask if he has anything in particular he'd want on the sword, when you note both Sam and Vera waving frantically at you from behind Ryouma. Guess it's supposed to be a surprise then...

"What's that?" He's definitely expecting you to finish that, and you snap your eyes back to him before he thinks anything is up.

"Eh, just thought of the answer to my own question; don't worry about it".

The merc looks a tad confused, but doesn't press the issue as you turn back to your drink.

Well, considering they'll be around tomorrow you might as well get to work on the merc contract.

Looking what you have over, you eventually grab the still incomplete Bastard Sword and get ready to finish it.

While working on it, you note that it's a bit harder to actually forge the blade itself; either due to leaving it overnight or the fact that the metal itself is a great deal stronger than what you're used to. Despite that, you finish off the sword without further issue.

Next up is the utter wreck of Sam's Buckler. The bad news is that it really is beyond repair due to how much damage it sustained.

The good news is that that means you can just start from scratch.

Utilizing it as a guide, you grab some iron and get to work. Despite your lack of experience working on shields, you do know how to make armor so that helps you along.

Once you're done with forging it, you move on to making sure that Sam will actually be able to use it by adding in a rudimentary grip. If she wants more, she'll have to find someone who actually does leather making to get it done.

Regardless, you're rather happy with how this has turned out.

After all, there's no expressed limit on how much he'll buy, just on the quality of product.

With that thought in mind, you grab some iron and some silver and get to work at the forge. You're about to continue on with creating more and more halberds, but then it hits you that spears and swords are great when you've got distance between you and the target.

Briefly, you think back to your previous encounter with a certain vampire.

Yeah, perhaps something meant for a closer range would be better. Something like a knife or dagger...

With that in mind you grab your tools and get to work.

Somewhat surprisingly enough, it's a bit hard to make them properly. Probably because the smaller scale means you don't have nearly as much room to work with. You end up wasting a fair amount of Silver trying to get the edge properly formed, so that's a bit of an issue; you are running a bit low at this point...

Regardless, you do make it work. Perhaps not as well as you'd like, but made nonetheless.

Well, might as well round out your production and use the last of your silver on some swords.

Utilizing your own as a guide, you once again get lost in the routine of the forge as you move back between fire and anvil; your rhythm only being broken when you finish one and move onto the next.

With the last embers of the forge behind you, you place your finished pieces onto the workbench.

You're also out of silver, so there's that.

Throwing together one of each of what you've made, you're halfway through leaving when you get a whiff of yourself. Being firmly reminded that you've spent the day working in a forge, you run back upstairs to wash up.

Throwing on a clean set of clothing, you exit and lock up your shop far cleaner than you previously were.

Stepping onto the street, you thumb your broadsword where it's by your side. Looking about, you don't see anyone suspicious. Then again, it is a bit hard to see properly considering the sun's already gone down.

Well, it's late, and from what you remember the Bastion does close up around this time, but going there still seems like the smart choice in this situation.

So, hefting your pack, you get moving.

The mood on the streets is... well, about the same as it's been for the last few weeks. People are glancing about nervously or not looking about at all as they head where ever they are going as quickly as they can.

You frown a bit at this. You're just about the last person to know about the ins and outs of politics and all that, but you know for a fact that it's simply only a matter of time until something happens.

Moving on, you have no problems getting into the Fire District. As you anticipated, the place is quiet and almost empty aside from the guards on night watch and the various clerks leaving.

It's also apparently your lucky night, as you spot Sun casually walking out of the stone brick building. You're halfway to approaching him when he looks over his shoulder and spots you, quickly smiling.

"John, this is a pleasant surprise," Turning fully to you as you walk up to him, the Councilman's smile is as bright as ever. "What brings you here tonight?"

He motions for you to follow him as he begins walking towards the Cloud District, "It's good to hear that you've been productive. What have you made thus far?"

"A few swords, a few spears, even a few halberds; wanted to make sure I covered all my bases".

"Very good," The Head smiles, "What was it that you wished to ask me about then?"

You glance about for a moment, making sure that you're not being trailed, "My idea is to utilize Bayonets and Daggers. From my experience, these things don't like giving you a moment to breath and as such you can't expect to always keep them in the effective range of swords, spears, and rifles".

"Hmm..." Sun thinks on it, glancing about as he taps his chin, "You bring up a fair point. I will say that if a rifleman is in a situation where a bayonet would be the best choice for him, that is not a situation he should be in in the first place. However, we cannot expect everything to go our way..."

Trailing off there, he starts thinking on it. As he does, you continue to check around yourself to make sure that you're not being followed.

"Alright," Not too much time passes before the Head continues, "I'll have to speak to a few other individuals, but I believe we can make this work. We're already training and retraining our men as it is; telling them to carry an additional weapon that could save their lives in a tough spot shouldn't be an issue".

"Good to know," With a nod, you continue looking about, "I'll get to work on that tomorrow".

"Not sure why you would need to, since you already made some," Glancing back, you see Sun with a slight smirk on his face, "You're not the only impulsive person in this city, John".

With a sigh of defeat, you grumble to yourself a bit.

Now what?

"Have you found anything about Naofumi's daughter?" The fact that you're blatantly shifting the conversation is likely not lost on Sun, but you get the feeling he doesn't particularly care.

"Well..." Glancing over, you note that the Councilor is hesitating a bit, perhaps trying to find the right words for the situation, "I found... something... but perhaps it's more telling about what I haven't found..."

"And that is?" Stopping in place, you turn to full regard the man.

"I have found no record of the Gambino family claiming the discovery of a Ruin in this area. I am well aware of the practice of keeping newly found Ruins off the books to allow the initial explorers to investigate their findings without having to worry about every scavenger on this side of the continent swarming them," The knowing look he gives you here is mildly concerning, "But usually within a month or so there will be a claim filed. So either they managed to scrub my records, which I can guarantee they would have a very, very hard time accomplishing, or they just never filed the find".

"So they've just kept everything off the books? But Naofumi said he was exchanging letters with her for some time," You frown at this new piece of news, not entirely liking the implications of what's been going on.

"Unfortunately, that is where the limits of what I can acquire. At least easily..." He looks over to the side and you follow his gaze, but you don't see anything really, "I'd look into it further, but right now I have other matters that require my attention".

"That's fine, thanks Sun. Have you uncovered anything else on that end?" You keep looking around while the two of you are stopped, but nothing looks too out of place. Perhaps Sun Woo has bodyguards of sorts...

"No, and I'm not sure I will be able to. The research Jun and I have been able to do has given us some insight into our situation, but all of these materials reference other texts and sources that simply no longer exist".

"Those texts were likely destroyed on purpose," Sun looks a bit surprised as you cut in, "I have a few other people that I've been working on this issue with. That actually nicely goes to something else I've wished to speak to you about: would you be willing to come to a meeting, and info exchange of sorts, at my shop within the next few days?"

"I would," He looks at you with rapt interest, "I'm a bit impressed, John, that you have those kinds of connections. I'm guessing the Genovese will be there?"

"I'm hoping someone from them will come as a representative, yes," No reason to lie to him here and have him find out at the meeting, "There's one other who I believe could contribute to the discussion".

There's a moment of silence and the two of you continue to walk on your way. Eventually, you glance over when you hear Sun starting to laugh, "I hope you understand why I'd wish to keep this quiet; I do have a reputation to maintain".

You just nod, "Yeah, I know, but I think we need to do something like this if we're going to get anything done".

"Oh, I am aware," Sun smiles again at you, "There is much to be done in these times; I am glad to have men like yourself alongside me during them".

The two of you make it to the edge of the Cloud District and, despite the fact that you're still a bit jumpy, nothing has happened.

"Well, it was good to talk to you," The Councilman gives you another smile, "When Jun comes by in two days, do let him know what the status of that meeting is".

"I will," Well, now you have a solid timeline to work with even if you can't do too much more currently.

"If there's nothing else, I'll leave you to your night. Anything else before that?"
> Ask Sun about something else (what?)

I want to reiterate that all our involvement with the Genovese is on the level. We've gone through too much shit to sink into that pit again.

I think he understands, pointing it out now would just seem awkward and suspicious imo. And he apparently has his own sources.

Also tomorrow we’ll work on some items for display, right? We’re still strapped for cash unless we want to dig into savings so shopping for electronics would not be very effective use of time, besides the ladies are coming to pick up the Goods.

Actually I can't remember if we had that talk with him about it.

With a polite semi-bow, you separate off from the Councilor as he heads home. You've spent about an hour or so on this all and now you're definitely feeling your hunger setting in.

You are in more or less the center of Shirahoro at this point and you've certainly got a few options on where to go from here.

It's been a while since you've talked to Ryu, thinking about it. Might as well stop by at Eden Hall.

From here, the route to the Water District is a different one from what you're used to given how you normally go from the Earth District.

As such, you're treated to a rather unique sight as you walk through what is definitely the closest Shirahoro has to a Red Light District. To be fair, it's not quite as blatant nor is the kind of trash you're used to from Airgrid, but the subtle signs are all there.

'Escorts' hang around on the street corners and occasionally call out to people walking by, individuals with either high collars or hoods on duck in and out of 'bars' and 'restaurants' that have no patrons in them. At least, in the front room. The alleys have certainly their own varying degrees of 'activities' in them, and those are the ones you can see from the main street.

And all of this takes place squarely in the shadow of the Cloud District, you note with a slight amount of humor. A group of escorts tries to grab your attention as you pass by, but you brush them off with little effort; you're not nearly drunk enough to consider their services.

Making it into the Water District proper, you find yourself tracing familiar steps towards Eden Hall. In no time at all, you get to the muted exterior of it and head on in.

"Welcome!"

Ryu's voice calls out as the bell above the doorway chimes. Within, you're greeted by the usual sight of the male elf calmly cleaning a cocktail glass and more unusual sight of his sibling's head down on the bar counter.

Aside from Sierra, the rest of the bar is empty.

How about Damascus or Damascus Steel
I wonder if Damascus is a foreign concept to this world?

Probably. It's the name of a city, after all. It'd be named Shirahoro Steel, following the same nomenclature.

I thought Damascus was a type of steel or a way to make steel? I just hope we find a name quick because I don't want to keep referring our shop as "our place" or "the shop".

It's the name of the city in which it originated.

The White Workshop
The Foreign Foundry
The John Smith

We're getting most of our commisions from the government and a mercantile trading group, anyway. Having a name implying foreign-ness and general cheekiness would give us a clientele more interested in 'exotic' work (like that combi-weapon everyone last thread went crazy about).

Sorry about going MIA like that. Good news is that I've got the majority of IRL issues done and out of the way for the foreseeable future, so I'm back here in full.

>>2110901

Not sure if you saw it previously, but I did rule that you can't have a silvered blade while also having that fire rune on top of it. Reason why is mostly because they'll have the exact same effect crunch-wise.
