Halfway through the new year means halfway to a new century, but that is not what is in the minds of most. Their tasks set before them are different altogether. Some focus on the harvest—it is summer after all—but more on the coming war that Reptia has spoken of. Its emissary talked of hordes of gnolls, possibly some five thousand strong, ready to wipe out all those in their way. Of course, this is Ier, a place used to war, so preparations began almost immediately. However, this conflict rings of the same life and death struggle that occurred during the first war where Ier and their then newly integrated Tannish lands in the south fought tooth and nail at Threetans to halt the tides of furred beasts. A stark contrast then, to current affairs, as refugees from further south pour into an increasingly embattled and separatist Tannish people. While it had seemed tensions had died down, the flood of people is a deluge threatening to break, with no word on what disaster it could bring with it.

Of course, the mass evacuation of the south is not the only order going forward; so too are two more orders by the Tyrant himself. The first grants Chad Metalar the charge of some 500 men to be trained as cavalry, who, among his own men already has 150 prepared in that charge. All men available to fight for the war effort total some 2080, and the rest are hard at work training. Reptia itself is lending 600 mercenaries to the cause, and all of them ghoulish. Yet this is still only roughly 2680 men compared to a potential 5000—and that is if the Tannish, and even more so others who seem to have unreputable elements fight with all their forces. Indeed, among the eyes of the people the Tannish separation is seen as quite possibly a natural conclusion, though they will be crushed. The evil eye is more so cast towards the House of Ivory, who according to the Reptians, had already sent men south for their own purposes, in the middle of a war no less. Yet for now, a fragile peace holds.

It seems that in his stead, the Tyrant has appointed the Sub-Tyrant for war; and it surprises none that the man in charge would be Chad. As a member of one of the longest standing war clans, and one with whom the Tyrant's family have long held wide consensus with, no one expected another outcome. Of course, Chad comes bearing bad news as well from foreign lands as well, at least from earlier in the year; and it is one that perhaps should not be forgotten anytime soon. Ier yet lives—the founder of the nation walks among the Isarn, having astonishingly founded yet them as well. And apparently, he does not view his first child as the favored one. Chad's report says that Ier sees the nation named for him as primitive and unruly, not able to be controlled as he wanted. The nations he views as a game, as he founded Isarn after pillaging the Isan ruins on a journey north with those who would still follow him, in an attempt to take back some 'civilized' culture. That root of hatred that the Isans express apparently stems from that in some form.Though with this news also comes tales of Isarn, who holds a strength comparable to Reptia on the western seaboard. And their leader (or at least the elected one—Ier acts as the figurehead while a Lord-Minister is elected by the various merchant districts who have made the merchant nation their home) himself is no fan of the man himself, professing he would kill him himself if he knew it would not end in a complete civil war and possibly the nation's fall.

While this comes as a shock to Ierok, the city's people eventually resolve themselves to the fact that their seemingly immortal ancestor has abandoned them. The time may come when father will face son, and the Blood shall prove who is stronger, but that is not now. The army of able men unites at Threetans, forcing the cooperation of the unruly, be they refugees or the Tannish themselves, as they train and in effect enforce order in the unstable village. On top of that, a man is sent to the Lopenei to gain their aid in this conflict as scouts too are sent out to learn the location of the horde. The scouts, of course, report back first, speaking of the starving masses of gnolls mostly having reached the bottom of the lake by their estimation. As for the Ehwazi, the tribe of Lopen report that they can only spare 900 men as part of the war effort. This is a significant advantage as each giant might represent a large amount of men if they were big enough, or so it would seem until both the emissary and the scouts are both at camp. The scouts relay glumly at that point the last bit of information they had forgotten about. The tribals have giants as well, and they easily number between 600 and 900 for that side.

All in all, the numbers are brought to 3580 vs 5000(?).
>>
As for what the giants ask, very little; merely that discounts on trade are given, as well as any information the tribal gnolls may have. It seems they were aware of the giants, as the local savage populations south of Lower Lopen had dwindled quite recently; supposedly these men, who had a conflict with the Lopenei, are contained within the tribal population.

What do you do?
>>
>>2090545
>>
>>2090545
Accept the deal with the Lopeni.

Move the army to position itself in the hills beyond the pass sending out scouts to watch for when the horde passes into the plains.
>>
>>2090545
>>2090557
Aye move them into position.
>>
(Remember that in the given government type only the Sub-Tyrant has control over the forces, though the tyrant's seconding and others saying 'this' or 'seconding' is fine as long as that's understood.)

As a push to the hills directly beyond the pass but before Manluk is made, scouts are sent out once more to monitor the closeness of the enemies. They are preoccupied with attacking food sources, but have made it most of the way to Manluk by the time the giants have arrived. There is growing concern over how 900 of them are meant to be fed, but due to the nearness of the gnolls, this is deemed something that can be solved with the ghoulish flesh eating. Ethnic tensions have somewhat died down as the Tannish have been separated into different units, encouraging a (forced) sense of comradery. Some are like this naturally of course; a threat of this magnitude could destabilize the entire continental belt if it is not stopped. As such, a relative peace is maintained, even with the reptians. A strange sight, but not one unwelcomed by the commanders. Morale however, is lacking a bit. While discipline is well and good and the troops are fine in regards to that, many view staying in the hills as doing nothing, pushing daisies before they're actually pushing daisies. This just adds to a sluggishness that serves no real purpose in armed forces.

At this point it is the 21st of Septwaen.

What should you do?

Have the me begin digging into the hills and setting up rock piles for the giants to throw. 300 Gnoll slaves will be brought from Ierok slaughtered and roasted for a feast to improve morale. The cavalry charges went slightly worse than could be expected; but that is not to say that the charges into enemy lines did not see some success. Managing to scatter most of the troops in the enemy lines (who were, to say the least, already quite disorganized) meant nothing to them, but they struggled against a threat the scouts only most recently reported. Large lizards, much like those rumors had told of in the southern jungles, stood ridden by gnollish troops. And the mounts were as fearsome as their riders, taking down some among the men. Most were able to gather back at their camp at the other side of the hills, and spoke to their commanders of concerns related to these beasts.

Of course, the forces that stand ready to face the gnolls need not worry for a while about those enemies. High on the largest hill stand most of the assembled forces, with Ierans and Lopenei assembled together. The ranged units stand with them, except for a small contingent on the second hill (nicknamed Little Mound by Ieran troops) who are all Reptian in origin. Those mercenaries stand too with the rest of the troops from the enemy nation, who dug the encampments. This was mirrored to some extent on the other site, but largely abandoned in favor of fetching the rocks from the giants. The feast was had and in quick succession both crucifixions and the passing out of the volcanite (a metal known for its unique properties of burning through flesh as well as most materials) arrows began. By the 27th, the gnolls were spotted by scouts as being near, and on the 29th, they were upon the allied forces of Ier and Lopen. In the morning light, the men make their final preparations and stand ready to fight. The enemy army seems to be chiefly consisted of an unorganized mess with a special division for their Matriarch in the middle, with ranged units near the back, and a special troop of giant infantrymen to the left accompanied by the lizard mounting gnolls to the right.

Regular Success

As the morning sun reminds all participants of the fatigue that summer brings, arrows rain down like sweat from the pores of a god above the hill. With the help of the crucified, they needle their way into those targets they have chosen; the gnoll army itself. While for giants these serve merely as pinpricks, the rest of the army does not see it that way. The group who bears most of the brunt happens to be the gnoll archers themselves! At the back of the line, the majority of their archers get separated as confusion reigns, and are forced behind the giants to shield themselves from the arrows. One contingent carries on, but now, their front is spread thin for any possible attacks from the enemy. Yet, a risky move is made on their part as well; the sizable contingent of cavalry they hold separates from the side of the infantry (notably, the side of the Matriarch) and move to the west. Their intentions are not known, but the Reptians are forced to stay vigilant as this wild card proceeds forwards towards their hill.

(Greasy fur means an extra -10 to the first DC but that does not change the result, merely a forgotten modifier)

Volley; Regular Success + Critical Fail = Dead Heat
Bombardment; Regular Success

The arrows, though blistering in nature as they pierce through the fur of the gnolls, are too highly concentrated on one area to do much. A contingent of the enemy do burn fiercely of course, but this does not spread, as their husks are left alone by their comrades. Intriguingly, one section of the giants advances alongside the remainder of that force, but this is quickly explained as they are pelted by rocks from above. Withdrawing wooden shields of great length from their back, they are placed down and used to defend from some of the boulders. Yet with the altitude the rocks were thrown from, their impact is felt that much more as some of the shields crack outright as the giants fall where they stand. It seems like the skirmishes that must have been had along their border with the Lopenei did not leave them prepared for this new terrain. They, while not broken, are reduced in number. Elsewhere, the gnoll archers have finally begun bombarding those on the larger hill, with their own smaller section of guardian giants standing in front of them. And the advance of the raptor contingent has brought them upwards on the hill, and closer to the Reptians, which now appears to be their goal. In hiding, our own cavalry moves away from that scene, and behind the larger hill.

Critical Success

The glint of volcanite sealed the fate of the gnolls as it passed noon; their downpour was quite unlike the rain in that with the friction between metal and flesh, an especially oily flesh (for gnolls are quite notably unhygienic) would easily be lit on fire. It took but a moment for it to start, and once it had, there would be no end. Tearing through your opponents, the flame spread to all 4 contingents, with one noticable exception; the queen herself. Laying untouched by the tongues and tendrils that threatened to leave her but a charred corpse, she and her guards, seeing the fate of their men, began to flee. And then, so too did the giants, and the archers, and... well not quite the raptors. They were busy with other pursuits, as their claws finally got a grip on the Reptians in the trenches below. Now you are left with the question of what to do; to pursue the main body, or aim for the raptors. Perhaps even do nothing.

A lone giant picks up the queen and runs as the rest of their forces scatter; he stands some 15 meters high, but his legs can only take him so far. The summer in the grasslands is hot and heavy, but an animal such as a camel is consistent. So in moments, the Queen herself is captured, and along with her, quite a number of her men. Yet among them lie but a few tribal leaders, and none of them of major consequence. Still, with her capture, this single battle ends what in any other case could have resulted in a more drawn out affair. Thus, a signal fire is lit, and on top of the hill Chad stands assured of his victory. The raptors fled, but they have dealt significant damage to the Reptar forces, who were not prepared for enemies with weapons that were mounts as well. Not that he, or any other important Ieran figure particularly cares about the Reptians. Men for hire it is supposed; but that thought of his, and indeed, of many of those still on top of the hill (who you may well be among) is interrupted as the footsteps of a giant makes their way towards the war leader.

"I have information for you regarding a faction among your nation, Sub-Tyrant. I am Rogh, chieftain of Upper Lopen."

The rather primitive looking giant bows his head before rubbing the scar tissue formed where his eye once laid.

"Out in the open or here?" he murmurs to the smaller man, craning his neck down as low as it can go.

"Heh, they'll need it, won't they," the giant throatily chuckles.

"Don't know if my men have been spreading rumors—and if they have, tell me—but we came upon a veritable flotilla on its way up the river as our forces came west to greet you. Truth be told, I was already in Lower Lopen for a pre-arranged meeting. I don't come south of the mountains often. However, some ghouls do stop off north; and they're not always particularly nice ones. Had a fair couple who thought me a fool—shite, that's not the point. I recognize a few symbols, and among that particular group—that group who thought me a fool—there were a decent number who stood out, in paints," he lets out. While not particularly straight forward in his wording, he speaks with an elegance not suiting his looks. With his pause finished, he raises an eyebrow as he looks at Chad.

"I assume you know who they are, I did not. Not until we encountered a veritable flotilla of boats traveling upwards on the river. Gnolls, possibly a ghoul or two. Only payed attention to the furred ones. I really was about to sink their vessels myself when they proceeded to show off paints, and claim to be from "the House of Ivory". This would be fine, if it wasn't clear they weren't being kept as slaves and the fact that they bore tribal outfits. Now, I have not kept myself informed of what manner of operation you're running here, but I imagine that is not what you'd want. At least, if the ghoulish Reptians are anything to get a clue in from."
>>
>>2093091

The Gnoll's there are indeed my Slaves, we just work better with sweet bait than your kin. I propose we make the Gnoll <atriarch's fate a public spectral? Maybe we should build an arena and then throw her in with a number of our own gnoll slaves. Have her killed by her own kind, as the light leaves her eyes the last thing she will see is her own beastial kin devouring her and viewing her not as a queen but a piece of meat, she will die knowing that not only did she fail, but that her people are doomed because of her.

As for the Gnoll Laws, all three points are indeed in effect. Their numbers are culled at birth, they live lives of subservience and die on our mere word. They are indeed marked like all others and if they lay a hang on Ghoul with lust in their thoughts they are strung up and made an example of...I believe Tyrant some of your kin recently met Charg a Painted Gnoll, you will not be meeting him again.

"Tarhan. Do not listen to the Fool of Ivory and his ideas brought about by licking too many toads.

The Matriarch of the horde is incredibly valuable. Both for information regarding who'll assume command in her stead, the disposition and strength of the enemy force, and for learning their reasons for this invasion. She must be questioned.
In addition, if you so desire, she would be quite useful in negotiations with the enemy, both for forcing a peace upon them as well as just demanding a huge ransom from them.

Lastly, if you desire her dead, do not waste her lifeblood on some sadistic spectacle.
Give her blood to Rok and He will surely reward you with an heir blessed with strenght and courage above all others."

A bit sheepish now that other representatives from various factions have joined in, Rogh's face grows a bit more stony with the statement of the slaves.

"If you let them free in the south, how do you know they work not against you if they are done there? We spotted but a pair of ghouls among the furred ones. Yet they made no effort to restrain the gnolls, or if it did, it was remarkably little. Others of the House of Ivory may have taken me for a fool; but that, I am not. I know what I saw."

"I believe a cull is called for but it is in the hands of the Tyrant. The House of Ivory has acted in ill faith of our blood. You were right to bring this too us. Slaves are slaves and if the House of Ivory is not treating them as such they have lost their right to have them."

please do tell new you would move a large number of Gnolls up a river on separate boats without
firstly risking all the newly aqired property should a boat sunk,
secondly not look like my own forces in case they were seen by hostile groups, it seems your missing the point of a spy or tricking people with recruitment
lastly, ill worry about loyalty when I have cause, the beasts are disciplined as needed, while I am ware things may change they have yet to give us cause...naturally should such sentiments take a hold then we shall paint they cave red with their blood.

Rogh's face pales with the uttering of 'vulture ghouls'. Standing up to his full height in front of the man in paints, his words are spat out with a foul contempt: "Burn the gnolls, I would. They are a danger, and not to be trusted. Putting them on a boat if they were slaves, and that number of ghouls were down there... how would one even begin to manage that, I wonder. As for your friend, I give no damns what happened to him, or what happened to any of them. My words of vulture ghouls were the only way to describe the cannibals seen.

Think next time you speak, fool."

"Alright so to go over this you had your own slaves acting as spies in the enemy lands. By themselves. and not one of them broke away and then they brought several more back up who will be compliant with our laws regarding their people. This is....an odd situation but it does not seem like you broke any laws. However i'm going to have some people keep a closer eye on the House in the future to ensure these little adventures are in compliance with the laws of the Tyranny. Oh and if I hear a word of rebellion from these new gnolls they will be put down. Harshly."
>>
A dry laugh continues Rogh's rant as he backs off from the one before him.

"Tharg ventured too far from the party, and these... things, came out and tore at him. Hollow men would be the only way I could describe them, I have not the painting the survivor drew for me. Ghouls, they were, but not. They could not be called mentally there, and their strength was like that of animals. That is what I warned of; beings who would strip the flesh off the corpse of a giant in minutes. Vultures. Is that an unfair assessment?"

Elsewhere, numbers are being counted as the scenario that has just occurred is imprinted once more on those analyzing it. All in all, it reveals just how crushing a blow this must have dealt the tribal forces; and just how few fell on the side of the combined northern might.

NORTHERN FORCES
3250 uninjured
63 lightly injured
180 heavily injured
67 dead

TRIBAL FORCES
~3,075 gnolls dead
~550 giants dead
~110 raptors dead

(If requested, the numbers will be broken down more for the Northern Forces.)
>>
As for captives, ~400 gnolls, and ~200 giants. The queen and four lesser tribal leaders make up the remainder of the important targets.
>>
>>2094597
-For the captured giants 40 will be given to Chad Metalar with another 50 brought in for the rest of the factions to have should they wish so
-The rest of the giants will be given to the Lopeni to do with as they wish.
-The Gnoll leaders captured in this battle will be kept alive to gather information from
-The rest of the Gnolls captured in this battle will be given to the men as a feast for their victory.

The giant delegation wishes to kill the rest of the tribals, and are mostly put off by the seeming enslavement of their own race. It appears that they would prefer the colder and cleaner method, and are going so far as to advocate that to the tyrant. As the slaughter of the tribal Ehwazi is begun by the Lopen, so too does the interrogation of the VIP gnolls. The rest of the gnollish prisoners face the music too, with preparations for the feast beginning in the field as soon as the order is given.

While the prep work is done, however, interrogations can begin, though they may end long after the last bone of the two legged beasts is gnawed on.

The interrogation of the gnolls, to put it frankly, could have gone better. Beginning with the lesser chiefs (as to get a warming up before the queen), little information of use was found. The problems really started when the interrogators realized they didn't speak the gnollish of the Sain and Opetians, meaning a translator had to be grabbed; one from the House of Ivory. Bickering started due to recent events, and the chief seemed to keep that in mind, mainly whispering rather bitter somethings at the poor painted one, which led to what amounted to torture by the end. That met with nothing, and a similar routine on the rest of the chiefs resulted in the same. It seems that some among the gnolls were made of sterner stuff after all. But not so much the Matriarch of the gnolls herself. After a bit of what could have been called coddling, she admitted to just exactly why the gnolls were starving in the first place. With their birth rate, the plague, and court politics, most could sustain themselves, in fact. At least til the waves hit. The same waters that punished the Ieran coastline hit them that much worse, wiping out their most fertile coastline. And so, with no other way to gain food, they moved north to do the only thing that they thought they could do: war.

As the torture continues, bonfires are lit, and the smell of roasting gnoll flesh fills the noses of ghouls once more. Except, now they're not crucified and left as targets; they are instead the starter, main course, and dessert for most. Though merely one battle was fought, most soldiers are willing to call it a war, at least, if it means their veteran status nets them that much more food in their last days afield on the hills past the mountain pass of Threetans.

(Freeroam actions and talk can be done now.)

The dead bear nothing valuable, or nothing more so than the clothes on their backs and the weapons they carried. Symbol carving does nothing to them or for them; they are dead, gone, finished. However, a few larger pieces of their weapons are brought to be melted down and sold, but for the most part you rest. This is a fruitful rest of course; war is a stressor like no other, and most often what is needed after that is watching the skies grow dark on a grassy hill as you lay back.

>>2094686

Tarhan has an encounter with something his line has met before; a bot fly. Recognizing it immediately from descriptions given to him by family, he smacks it down with the flat of his blade. It lands in his food with a smack; leaving a rather sullen Tyrant to watch his men's merriment.

>>2094715
Some Tannishmen do listen to the words of Chad, and perhaps for good reason; their leader, elected some years ago, is soon to die. The time for reconciliation could be approaching more quickly than expected. Most giants, however, are content to eat with their own kind, and most notably hunt their own food. They are forced to; after all, they do not feed upon the flesh of other sapients. This, combined with the grievances over both the enslavement of their own race and their hatred of the tribal giants who had for decades lived just south of Lower Lopen ensures they do not hear these words. The last group, the Ierans, do hear it, and cry triumphantly, but what is not said is also noted. Reptia left alone once more.

>>2094716
Nothing; most anything that seemed shiny or valuable was taken earlier...

>>2094736
Or so most thought. A strange blade formed of bronze mixed with some other metal is found with one gnoll. Perhaps a chief at one point, who had gone overlooked. Either way, a nice way to end the feast; though the events that started the war did not end there.
>>
As the men were sent back to their homes, a fair number traveled to their residence in Ierok. Of course, the Tyrant, the former Sub-Tyrant, even the Reptians along with the slaves of importance were among this bunch, which made up the majority of the forces. The Lopenei had parted at Threetans, as had the Tannish, so the core of the army carried on through the sea of green to their home. What met them was not what they were expecting when they finally reached the walls of Ierok of what little expectations of a warm welcome they were expecting at all. 5 Reptians stood ready outside the gate; none armed, but all in very expensive clothing. Not a familiar face among them, but there they stood anyways.

"Welcome home," started the oldest, dressed in clothes not dissimilar to Rowl on his first arrival. "We'd like a word with the Tyrant. Urgent diplomatic matter, you see."
>>
>>2094764
"Just me....I'm not sure who or what to address you as?"
>>
>>2094767
Smiling at Chad as the other ghoul stares daggers, he stops a moment, as if thinking of his own name.

"Noch Ul'bern. I'd prefer Noch to be called Noch, so just Ul'bern will do.

Looking at the amount of men, he seems rather intimidated. He has quite a slim build, but you can tell it's not at all muscular for a ghoul.

"Er, out here, or in wherever you do your administrative work? I'm not quite clear with the layout here, and Rowl is not the most detail oriented child."
>>
>>2094769
"Is this matter so Urgent you must see me now I prefer to get a good nights rest in before tackling the affairs of state."
>>
>>2094770
"That's fine, it's urgent, but I don't want to impose."

Turning around, he just waves an arm to the group surrounding him and they walk off back into the city.
>>
>>2094772
"Tomorrow we will meet to discuss with members of the concord."
>>
As Noch walks off, so too does Chad, following him. The morning light illuminates the streets they had walked along with the fine line they tread that night. As the Ul'berns are trade partners with the smith's family, he went to the Khazirsson longhouse. Not soon after what would be dinner time, and certainly too early for it to be over, Chad alone walks out, and enters into the longhouse of the tyrant. They are the first two to arrive to the Concord Hut in the morning, and the only two to have the knowledge of what exactly is about to be asked of Ier. Reptia has come to ask for servitude or vassaldom itself, in some form or another, from Ier—and with Reptian mercenaries still within its capital, this could be quite troubling indeed. The other members slowly trickle in; but they are sluggish. A fitting counterpart to the waves that started all this intrigue, so many weeks ago...

(And that is where we end for the night.)

As perhaps a few others of the Concord are still waited on outside the hut, the Reptians, for whom this meeting is being held, finally show their faces. Some six in total, a few mercenaries accompany them today, though no more than five. For the most part they look like they have had some rest, all but for one. Noch's eyes have telltale veins of red popping all over them, a fact made even more striking by his crimson irises. With his gaunt figure, it gives him a rather sickly look, but that much is perhaps to be expected. For what Chad and the Tyrant know is that he has come to begin negotiations of fealty, in some form or another. His death, depending on the mood of those present, may be all but certain. The chattering that has filled the room reaches its crescendo then falls to its natural conclusion as most of the envoy's entourage disperse to the corners of the room. The guards stand by the door, ready, as their leader begins.

"Reptia and Ier have not always been on the best of terms, and for good reason. One was always born to dominate the other; though this has been staved off in time. However, at this point, those who hold the power in Reptia see no other option now than to finally assert that claim over Ier. Your nation is rich in resources, and ours, while perhaps not lacking, is standard. For a population as large as Reptia's, it is natural then that you were always a target. You all have served your purpose, and a brave one at that, in ending the gnolls of both the Southern Tribes and Opetia, but now you must join or risk angering your neighbor. What Reptia has sent us here to ask of you today is not partnership or bootlicking, but recognition of its dominance in the form of tribute and a swearing of loyalty to form a greater whole on this delta, whose name is not yet determined. Make no mistake—we ask not for the surrendering of sovereignty, but for the swallowing of pride and admitting of fealty."
>>
>>2104289
"You wish for food and metal?"
Tarhan let's put a sigh after hearing that.
"This attempt at acquiring them through force and conflict rather then trade is foolish. I would have expected the 'enlightened' leaders of Reptia to recognize this but it seems I've been mistaken."
"I will say this either reconsider your ideas of domination and we go back to being neighbors who just barely tolerate each other or Reptia will suffer gravely for this insult."

This is the most peaceful option, while the second will bring a flood of Ieran blood like this land has never seen. This is a mercy granted, and you would refuse it?"

While the man's words are expressive, his face is more like a mask than it had been the day before.
>>
>>2104416
You say this is a mercy but would Ier remain Ier if we did, would we actually gain anything of worth from swearing fealty?"

Mahk's robe twitches and chitters faintly before he speaks...
"You know that the Ghouls of Ier are a people of hour and a metal will and as you say your own are similar. Using this surly you should know asking one warrior to simply fall on his own spear because the other claims to be stronger is folly? You are saying we would be equals in all but tribute, yet Reptia is giving nothing, you want us to submit and simply hand you what we fought for on your word? Your asking for a people to throw away their pride while your high on your own."
Mahk pauses for a moment considering his words.
"You know or atleast you should know that Ier will not submit just because they have been told to, you know as well as we if you try to take these lands while the blood of Ier may flow in the river, you will be vulnerable to others, your victory will be for naught and your pride will have been the end of you. I suggest you consider another offer than simply demanding we submit, you are clever im sure you can think of something no?"
>>
>>2104416
As he is gently polishing his knife, Zereb mumbles audibly: "Bah, Rok cares little for whose blood is given unto him. He'll be pleased regardless of who lives or who dies. If death is fated for us then so be it."
>>
>>2104455
"A guardian from other entities, as well as one who could gain you connections elsewhere. Reptia is not ignorant of the fact that your founder is still alive in Isarn, nor is it unaware of the fact that he despises you. Furthermore, the sea; surely you would wish to go further on it, and gain a foothold in the form of islands and possibly more? Think of what your population could grow to if you were not consistently bearing the brunt of each war. These are all on the table."

>>2104471
Keeping his eyes mostly averted from Chad, Noch says with some apprehension, "If Ier wishes its own demise then there are worse ways to do it, yes."

>>2104488
"You say all this, yet we have no other enemy in the area now that you've gone and eliminated the savages for us. I suppose that is the intelligence I should expect from someone caught breaking the laws of their own land twice," Ul'bern mutters. "This is not a search for a war, especially when a victory has been won against a common foe and our trade grows further entwined. We seek this as a furthering of our own goals, and as I have said to your tyrant, a way to further yours. Do not look back in anger later when you wish to forsake a honeyed deal now."
>>
Looking intrigued at the ambassadors from Reptia, Horatio speaks.
"Would submitting to Reptia allow us to find new trade partners? If I may ask, could you name some trade partners that we do not know of, but you do?"
>>
>>2104525
"You avoided my first question. Would Ier still remain Ier in our values and culture if it swore fealty to Reptia.?"
>>
>>2104568
Holding his eyes closed for a few moments, the noble covers one with his palm before addressing the tyrant once more, having thought for a moment before speaking.

"As for Ier remaining Ier, we are not here to take away your culture. You are free to do what you will with it, as well as do whatever with your own lands; fealty would merely be an oath before the Archon and his council, along with a monetary or agricultural tribute. Other details, including both a defensive pact and trade agreements could be discussed, but war over this seems pointless, yes? The outcome at the end of the day would be the same, except with a war you ensure harm to your people as well as both Ieran values and culture. Fealty, not bloodshed, will avoid that."

Sparing a glance towards the guards that he had brought along, Ul'bern takes his hand down to expose an eye redder than it was before, as his voice grows steadier.

"There are still several hundred mercenaries—Reptian mercenaries—within the city. Yet nothing was done with them to bring force to this negotiation. This is my proof to you, Tyrant. This is not meant to be a crushing foot on the backs of the Ierans, but an era of prosperity assured for the future of both our nations. Believe me in that I want nothing more than that."
>>
>>2104566
"Er, trade partners of my own nation, or of others? I myself am a decent example of the former, but clarify for me, if you will."
>>
>>2104628
"Hypocrisy, you have just brought up the mercenaries as another bargaining chip and threat. If you wished come in good faith you would have had them return home today. You speak of peace while holding a knife to our throat."
>>
>>2104643
"I would like examples of Trade partners of your own nation is what I am looking for. Nations that aren't Ierok or Lopen."
>>
>>2104628
"A few hundred of your thinbloods against us?
Surely you jest, the brotherhood alone would eath them alive.
They are like a baby camel locked in with a pack of dingos.

Tyrant Tarhan, give the word and we'll take care of them all for you, have no fears."
>>
>>2104628
"There might be honesty in your words, but tell me this. What could you possibly gain through having to war is that you couldn't gain through an alliance. That food and money you want takes effort to acquire. Sending it away to Reptia is as part of a fealty agreement doesn't seem very efficient does it? And more importantly starting a war where one need not happen would cost Reptia a great deal of blood and treasure when they can get more from having Ier as an ally then a servant."
>>
>>2104651
"600 men in a day is no small feat, even for Reptia, especially when most came by sea. Am I expected to transport them away by means of magic?"

>>2104674
"Hundreds? I would not presume to know the population of Ierok, but even to Moundtown, 600 men would deal significant damage."

>>2104657
"Off the top of my head, I can think of roughly 3. Our main trading partners to the east, at least, are the Nakh. Lesser partners might be the Lukidor, and perhaps even the Maerzi."
>>
>>2104706
"We speak of an alliance, but not an equal one," utters the ghoul, sounding a little fed up. "In population, wealth, resources, diplomatic matters, and knowledge, we have Ier beaten. Is it so foolish to think that such an uneven alliance should involve some manner of evening out? This is the alternative to war in the opinion of the Archon; for Reptia could equally wage war and gain the resources anyways."
>>
>>2104749
"And that he would wage war where he wouldn't need to shows that perhaps you've not beaten us in knowledge. As for those other area you've 'beaten' us in its very much due to Ier doing the dirty work. So yes I do believe it should be an equal alliance."
>>
>>2104800
"Knowledge does not mean a lack of war. As for our population, were our colonies not sustained by ourselves? What of the hostile lands we were surrounded with, did we not fight them to gain resources? Diplomatic matters were certainly not something that you helped with. The Opetians would not have fought us, and you were alerted to the amassing tribals by Reptia. What, if any of that, was not on Reptia's initiative? Yes, in trade, we relied on you for a time, but we grew past that to where we are today. Reptia is not defined by Ier nor Ier by Reptia, but an alliance that would have Reptia give the things mentioned before would require give and take."
>>
>>2104983
"You sustained them because the mainland was for the most part secure allowing you to fight off your enemies from a secure point. And as for your idea of give and take. You demand too much and I've now grown sick of your arrogance after offering you many times a way to do this without bloodshed where everyone can be in agreement. and since you cannot let go of your ego Reptia will have to fall."
>>
>>2105081
"Rok wills it."
>>
"I have been a trade partner of Ierok for quite some time, and was one of those against this proposal. I have no ego to bare here, merely a belief that when this was said and done that too many would lie dead on the ground. However, I did not secure the death of Ierans here; blood and bones, I'll even withdraw those men from here and give you time to prepare. The only one who ensured the destruction of Ier as you know it was you. Remember that."

Ul'bern's eyes are as wide as they can be by this point, but slowly he closes them and turns towards the door. As he walks out, the sound of stones and fruits along with the clamor of a crowd reach the inside of the Concord. His companions, too, leave in a similar manner, and are greeted by the same sounds. Merely the yells of an incited public, but before the mercenaries or envoys can leave, there still lies a chance for something more. The hot winds brought by summer waft down Ierok's streets; and in the unbearable heat, a fervor began to brew.
>>
As it reaches nightfall on the same day, news has reached most of the corners of Ierok that what stirred earlier in the day came to pass almost immediately. Zereb of the Brotherhood made his way to the longhouse erected in the capital of Ier and there, though it is unknown what was said, various men carrying their normal equipment emerged. To any man on the streets of the town it could be dismissed merely as one of their quaint oddities but it was not fated to be as that this day. A commotion occurred in front of the main gate leading out to the grasslands towards Reptia, and that is where their intentions were made clear; in a brutal post-mortem; the head of the head of House Ul'bern erected with an ironic morbidity for all to bear witness to. His companions were perhaps not so unfortunate as to see that, possibly because they were already dead themselves. Their corpses were stripped bare of anything edible, and heads brought through the alleyways as a horde of hands carried them aloft towards the Ieran god of the delta; Rok. Some filtered off well from the peak of the heat at noon and as the sun quickly dimmed (for the deity's hold was some distance from their starting point) but the loyal marched onwards and were met with beds for their troubles. The feelings of the Reptians' last moments were preserved on their faces as they lay facing towards the boulder, ever unmoving.

This was not to be the Brotherhood's last action of some effect as the army gathered once more. When the some 2050 men that made up its core reached Ierok, they were met by another banner—that of the Isans. The embittered neighbor they shared a common origin with, according to the Rok acolytes, only came due to a common threat and would most likely act as a force all their own, but it was still something to increase the odds of Ier, as slim as they may be.

(Seeing as this is an extended conflict, the month and day will be mentioned.)

At this point, it is the 19th of Hoktom.

A general call will be put out for all citizens of Ier to withdraw across the river.

Sub-Tyrant Chad Metalar will take 800 Mounted Men and move to Ierca to pick up a solid supply of Volcanite arrows and allow the rest of the ore to be shipped down to Ierok. Taking a looping path they will descend upon Tatom and then plan to strike Lankam.

The remaining 1250 will plus the Isans will set up defenses across the river and prepare the ships to defend it also the ships being under the command of the Riverisa and the Ground forces Kato Falzer.

Word will be sent at once to the Lopen asking for aid.
>>
The number of Isan forces seems to be around 400, whilst Chad has been elected to Sub-Tyrant once more. Delegating the process seems to be a way to deal with any problems created by his being in the field, and thus various families are put in the position of power for the time being. They may begin their own planning as the orders he has made are beginning to be carried out (surprisingly even followed by the Isans). Of course, this does not stop some from questioning the strategic value of purely cavalry, especially as the ones who his men have trained only number some 650 men. Yet, as the stop at Ful'cana is made, Chad receives words from his scouts; they tell him of a number of Reptian troops who are currently nearing Tarom...

The army in Ierok shall be split into 2. A force of 550 shall remain in the city to safeguard it. The rest of the Ieren military and all of our Isan allies shall be positioned in between Ierok and the river. “Scouts”, probably women, shall be placed on the other side of the river to give warning of where the Reptians will cross the river. From then on the main army will meet them at the crossing and face them in a battle where their numbers should are negated.
>>
For the defense of Ierok:
Naval-wise, the plan will be to requisition some of my ships, and put Volcanite on them. They will be used as fire ships and lit on fire and sent into an enemy fleet to sow chaos and disorder and possibly even light a few ships on fire. About 5 ships will be used to patrol the southern regions of the delta and aid in crossing the river if messengers need to do so. The other 35 ships will be held in Port at Ierok, held at a Moment's notice to respond to any approaching enemy fleets along the delta. They will also be ready to respond to crossing enemy armies. Women and men that were not thrown into the army will construct watchtowers and man them. Camels will be stationed at these watchtowers and they will ride straight to Ierok to inform the fleet of enemies attempting to enter the delta.

The scouts in Reptian lands come back with more news that comes as a surprise to Chad and his lieutenants; the army marching towards Tatom had not done so coming from the south closer to Azh-Al; rather, they came from closer to Moundtown itself. They also appear to be well-armed and with a third bearing camels themselves; but giants in the midst provides a punch that they may have otherwise lacked.

Elsewhere, both Kato Falzer and the Riverisa are utilizing an unorthodox tactic by incorporating the womenfolk into a more active role. While this is welcomed by them, it may meet with displeasure from their commander. It would appear that is a risk they are willing to take. While the towers they construct are a bit makeshift they will do, though their other actions give more doubts than answers to the garrison of 550 left by Kato. Gnoll slaves are being moved to the ships, 5 by 5 (with each ship bearing 12 men), with threats as well as promises. Desperation works as well as pleasure in this case, as the gnolls realize their plight; slowly, with men from the army making up the other 280 on each ship, they are prepared. 550 in the city, all men; 480 on the ships, gnolls of varying genders and ghoulish men; and finally the army itself, 1370 men strong. As the scout ships begin to patrol, so do the women on the other river bank—only smaller vessels meant for a few may guide them to the army to tell of the enemy.

While Chad issues his orders regarding what happens next, it is relatively uneventful for both Kato and the Riverisa.

The heat of summer in the middle of tropical grasslands provide ample fuel for the fire to rise; and as smoke billows into the night air, the heat felt on the skin of many, especially in Lankam, provides no sense of ease. While the areas of the settlement further into the jungle do not feel the flames, they do feel the feet of camel pounding the earth as they devastate the crops and come for them. While none dismount, the riders in the night are able to kill most of the civilians before turning to their homes and the fields lying furthest out of range. In the coming days, even the areas around there are not safe—they too reap what their ambassadors had sown, as even corpses burn in the nigh unstoppable tongues of flame that Ierans have brought. As far south as the Broken River (the Reptian name for the last body of water before their capital itself) the army has reached, and the oily fur of gnolls is a foully arousing tinder. Yet, as this occurs, a problem comes into being; your scouts report that from both Moundtown AND Tarom the armies of Reptia are coming to bear upon thee. Chad's response is awaited as the environment around glimmers with the haze of the warm season's passionate embrace.

(That is to say; what will you do?)

Piercing through the flank of the enemy, they never saw you coming; quite literally. Under the cover of darkness, which as shown by the pillaging earlier is traditional for ghouls (and for some even comes more naturally than sleeping during the day, which can be further disciplined for use in the army), you have managed to kill a significant number of the enemy, and ruin the days of countless more; but then a problem occurs. Explaining the relative slow pursuit by this army earlier, it seems that only some gnolls on camelback are in pursuit—but the boulders the giants are throwing present a real worry as those who are alert try to counter-attack.

A few stragglers who remain in the camp reign loose for quite a while, and as you pass into the distance from even the closest enemy, you can still see the charcoal of burning supplies cover the air in thick black smoke. That's when you turn around and give the enemy cavalry hell, who had turned their back in hopes of getting some more sleep. And they do rest, but forever after—the charge into their line breaks them, boulders lobbed by their companions merely turning the night into a deadly game of cat and mouse. With eyes like ghouls, who needs noses? After all, with a lit up field, everything, including the ghouls, smell like smoke—and the only one able to see once they're outside of there are ghouls. That's what the smarter individuals among the Ieran cavalry figure as they light up the darkness, in despite of their nearby foe. Trust is kept that their comrades about to fall will be able to act as distractions; and they'd be right. By the end, the vast majority of the Reptian cavalry, lays either dead or wounded in the ashen meadow. As the last of the raiders escapes, only then do your sullen enemy make their way to their wounded fellows: tired, desperate, dazed, and confused.

(Session end.)

Something was in the air on the river delta, far from the battlefields of Reptia; it wasn't just the smell of rotten fish that a long summer let sit on the banks. A peace yet to be broken sat stagnant, and so too did all those of Ierok waiting for the battle. Perhaps it came as a relief then as reports finally started coming in, messengers clambering off of camels pushed to the limit, to inform their commanders of the news as the sun's light reaches down from the sky. Coming up the river, Reptian vessels of a similar make and size to your own; their fleet is of almost the same strength as well. And not just that; some were heading for Threetans, and they just happened to be the most sizable portion of the fleet by far, vastly outnumbering those heading for Ierok.

It is the 28th of Hoktom, and unbeknownst to Chad who has just reached Ful'cana, the battle for Ier's fate has begun.

Commanders, what will you do?
>>
>>2110989
Intercept the enemy fleet as fast as possible. We cannot risk them gaining even limited control over the delta.
>>
Having no time or enough men to help Threetans, the troops are informed of the situation; the boats will sail out to meet the enemy head on. Whether or not they will return is another matter, but the Riverisa have chosen the route of the navy as they sail out to greet their foes. Not even the remaining land army are informed. Still, it grows dark before boats are spotted. In this state of darkness, seeing anything at all may be difficult. At least for the Reptians. There are some benefits to an ethnostate, after all, though it may mean nothing to such a force of opponents.

The blood is truly strong, then, the navigators of your ships figure, as they see through the veil that night provides to what lies just further in from the horizon than the thin line curving ever so slightly upwards itself. However, a few ships still lie a bit out of sight; though how many more can there be? Orders are run through the ships by means of voice alone; though the enemy doesn't quite know it, the battle has begun.

Commander, give your orders.
>>
Order all ships to halt movement and become completely quiet. The enemy must not know we are here...

Send in the fire boats first, making sure to set them on fire at the very last possible moment to really get the surprise on them. These ships will be meant to sow Chaos, disarray, and if we're lucky set a few ships on fire.

Once the fire ships are on fire, the boats will close distance as fast as possible, seeking to catch the enemy off guard and while they are still stunned and shocked at these fire boats, and start ramming and attempting to capture boats. If possible, we will attempt to break through enemy lines.

Dead Heat

Over the waters the fireboats pass, their self-sacrificial nature meaning no regular men were willing to bear them. One among them, a wizened old man, waves goodbye as he nears his target; his ship is the first to crash but its slowness guarantees it is spotted. Uttering a cry of alarm, a gnoll cries out, or so it would seem. For as flames spread across the Reptian ship, its men aboard jump for it. Other flames burst out in response as they hit the water, as if just waiting for the right timing. Unfortunately, unlike the vessel on which the scarred elderly gentleman was borne, these are more like the dying of embers. And indeed, there is cause for concern; they have been brought down by the enemy. Seeing the fate of the first vessel, they must have responded in turn. The waters lay stagnant for but a moment longer, and then, the Reptians sail onwards towards Ierok—towards you.

Under his breath, a navigator looking towards the horizon realizes what has happened. Even who that individual who was so damn slow was:

"Rokdammit Chab."

Commander, issue your orders.

Send in the ships. We will aim to board enemy vessels as much as possible. The initial movements into formation are not gentle to say the least, but they are there. It is when the river was under accounted for on this longer stretch that some trouble was seen; and almost immediately. As the right side of the fleet strayed ahead of the line that was meant to be presented to the enemy, any attempts at boarding failed as a group of 3 or so squads (squad = 4 ships) proceeded to get cut off. At least on the right side; on the left, the attempts made were foiled as all the ships the enemy had came into full view. Moving to cut off any attempt at escape, ships behind the initial row attach themselves to the forward advance of the enemies. The men on those are more than were expected of a boat seating 12, and that's thanks to one extra group: bowmen. The center column, similarly, gives no mercy; it would seem that while you Ierans went forward with a plan of boarding, their's was one of ramming. The sound of ship upon ship will ring out in just a moment, if something isn't done, and fast.

The plan, once again, does not go to plan; in fact, in this case, it does significantly worse than that. The three ships left among the Reptians row too hard and end up on a wide banking curve, with one of them crashing into the edge of the river. The remaining forces do not fare much better, in particular the 4 central squads. The slight gap left over is split, and separated into an uneven number of 2 and 5, to be whittled down. The battle is over; but for these desperate men, the chance of escape seems well worth taking.

Back in Ier, the people are growing nervous. If they set out on the 1st day, and fought during the 2nd, surely, now, they should be here, yes? 550 men stand watch over the city, but morale is not well in the capital, even with their presence. Even among them there are divisions; and this is in part due to a messenger arrived yesterday, tired, bedraggled, and covered in mud. A child. The news he bears is grim; foreign ships flying the flag of Reptia are on the horizon. It was dark by the time the boy came, but a man on camel was sent immediately to the army proper. In the morning, the message they received back was...

Commander, your orders?
>>
>>2111206

...the army would respond with all it could muster. And indeed it would; kilometers outside of Ierok proper, there's an army on the march, and they are heading south. Trusting in the cavalry, Commander Falzer's men trace their route southwest, all the way from the river to Khoril. There, the scouts report back; the Reptians are assembled atop the first hill, and only hill, before Threetans, having moved there this morning directly from the stronghold they have now claimed in the region. It is no matter for the defensive forces to move a little further south then; and there the words of the scouts strike true. A Reptian army of almost equal amount stands at the foot of the large hill. Giants and ghouls mixed in a large force of infantry make up most of their number, though some rock throwers and regular archers are also situated advantageously to the side of the hill. It seems as if they were expecting a fight; and as the call is made and the Ierans make a stand for their homeland, it is well and truly brought to them.

Commander, what are your orders?
>>
>>2111374
Pull back. Any move on the Reptian position will be futile
>>
Pulling back to Khoril, the Ieran army knows it is useless to attempt to charge against an enemy on high ground; a lesson that they taught the gnolls less than a year ago. It is the 36th of Hoktis, and as it turns to Nunamos, the men think of what is happening on the other fronts.

In the west, Chad's forces have just left their last raid and are heading west, bound for Tatom and then Ierca; and in Ierok, perhaps the most devastating news of the war has been delivered. Due to the enslavement of the Lopenei tribals, Lopen will not interfere in the Iero-Reptian War. And the war ships of the Reptians, who should have already arrived long before now, strangely enough, have been spotted on the outskirts of the area of the river leading to Ierok. Grim news indeed, especially with morale already crippled; some in the city garrison even speak of surrender at this point. However, the war is not yet over; and there still lies the faintest hope for the nation's salvation.

(Session end.)
>>
That hope appears shattered as the light of noon brings with it sights most had not hoped to see; Reptian ships are on the horizon. And perhaps what is worse to those with family aboard the Ieran ships, nothing bearing their marks. Everything begins to move at once, soldiers throwing on armor, houses being fortified with whatever is at hand, and the harbor district evacuated. This was always a possibility, but the army had held faith in the navy led by one Khoratio Dhzuro, so defense preparation in that area was minimal at best. Still, there are other things in place that will block the advance of the enemy. The large stone walls of Ierok are massive enough to prevent easy attacks by ships; and furthermore, the gate connecting the harbor district to the city proper is securable, within reason. Lastly, the tyrant still resides in the capital—an authority that very may well be used to keep things orderly this day.

It is the 1st of Nunamos.

Players, if you have characters in Ierok, state their intentions; be it preparation, commands, or other such things.

The sun is still brightly blazing as San-Gou steps into the summer shine. Behind her, a scene not quite befitting that of the stature of an older women; men carrying out slaves. With the market being the hardest to fortify, most are there, and it is a wide enough space for what she has in mind. Between a rock, and a hard place, always choose a rock. This old saying passed down in Ierok has reason to back it, as the smashing of stone against the victim's skulls sinks itself into the mind remaining in the plaza. Where just a moment ago it was hustling and bustling, the area is vacant of movement as people stop and look what has occurred. Most remain silent, but a few cries are let out. Perhaps of pain, as a few glance over.

A Painted One is busy carving the flesh of another with strange symbols, their traps having been set, woven of silk from a large spider. That does cause some discussion, but for good reason. The group is not in high standing at the moment, and their rituals, often heard, not seen, are seen as strange or outright bizarre. Thus, the religious connotations that San-Gou brought into the arena of public discourse are brought down to bear on the ghouls, but as one adventurous woman is about to say something, the tyrant walks by. Silence, yet again. But then his words ring out for all to hear:

"Finish what you are doing, and arm yourselves."

Within hours, the sun has begun to dim, and everything that could be secured is stored away. From the sounds outside, the Reptian army appears to have landed. Though the docks lay burned to prevent them any ease, a net is thrown across and appears fastened to the land, or so those standing on a roof report down to the tyrant. An empty district and a large gate in the distance meet them; and slowly they advance. But the Ierans are ready. Standing in formation by the gate, the army and the commonfolk able to stand are gathered: now, the battle for Ierok has begun.

The sound of bowstrings snapping back into place illuminates the sight of fiery arrows lighting up the sky itself. As they crash down to earth, it would seem almost a foregone conclusion that they would hit their mark, and as they burn at the heart of the army, it feels as if the embodiment of death waits outside the door. This is not helped as a loud noise is heard. One. Two. And those standing by the door crumple from the blow of... part of a ship? The crumbling rocks reveal the form of a giant—no, many. But as the army is left to question this, a strangely familiar noise is heard above them. Something that surely couldn't be happening... a tale had been passed down from a war decades ago, but it was thought just that. A tale. As the remainder of the vessel that had just been used to smash the gate plummets to the ground, most within the interior gates wonder where it all went so wrong. Moving in through the shattered defense now, are the Reptians.

Of course, it was merely a wall that broke; the spirit of the people, if shaken, remained. Though many of the army lay dead or heavily wounded on the ground, some citizens lacking weapon or even armor took up their fallen brothers' arms and waged war against the sea of enemies that faced them. While it is by no means organized, it is working to stem the tide, especially that of the enemy's infantry. In fact, it could be said that more are being taken down of them in that regard than of Ierans; unlike the Reptians, with no pre-planned tactics, eating the flesh of the dead and just letting loose is more of an option than a very orderly system of instructions on what to happen. Perhaps it's that they fight with the furor of one knowing that if they fall they are finished for good, but Reptia has not advanced past the gate, despite its destruction.

It is still the first few hours of fighting, but the corpses on the ground would make sure one does not feel that way. That is if anyone was feeling a thing; with the sheer amount of viscera, most Ierans are absorbed in just killing their quarry before anyone else can take it away from them. However, as much as this can be done, the Reptians are maintaining their order and the ones being taken down are still mostly the infantry. Gnolls and ghouls—not giants. Their figures still loom overhead, as debris flies about each time they throw something else towards the forces defending Ierok. The battle rages on as the dusk begins.

>Assemble some kind of order
"We are not beasts, get ahold of yourselves, Focus fire the giants those of you with wit!"
>>
It seems that for a moment that the opponents have nothing left to muster, but that is when the giants march in. Treading on whatever is in their path, they give no mercy to their enemy or even their own; whatever is beneath them is crushed. Or, mostly. A young lad, no older than 9 or 10 for some reason on the front line is nearly hammered into a paste, but someone intervenes. Taking her spear and violently thrusting it upwards into the heel of the giant, San-Gou shoves the boy out of the way; and just in time too. The giant comes crashing down with a thump, where a quick cut to the neck gets the job done. Still, for all the San-Gous on the field there are a growing number of vulnerable due to the advance of the colossi.

(-15 blood frenzy*)

The continued ignoring of the highest authority in Ier seems concerning, but the results of the conflict are clear. With the Reptians on their back foot, it would seem that just one more round will push them out entirely. By this point the battle has been taken from the gate into the harbor district. Even the giants seem a little perturbed by this, if their faces are anything to go by. They fall back too in time, as the efforts of the citizenry of all factions are felt in the push forward. In fact, some ghouls seem to even be getting stronger as the night wears on, though it may just be anecdotal. However, those ones have something strange about them...

It is not very often that a miracle happens, but when it does, it most certainly makes itself known. The battle scene is chaotic, and awash in ripped guts and cracked bones, all of which decorate the stone facade that makes up so much of Ierok. It does not matter to most Ierans though, consumed in their hunger for revenge against a nation who had killed their families and friends. A blood debt, to repaid in the way it was taken; that was the thought in the minds of many as the charge forward was made.

Leading the charge was one Augus Falzer, blade in hand, if it could be called that. The frame of the weapon was warped by the sheer grip of the one holding it, and the Reptians who faced him felt their deaths more by a blunt object than any object with a perceivable edge. As he struck forward, he felt pangs in his head. No, his chest. That was what was calling him forward...

The crowd behind him followed him to the river, where several of them, including the man himself, did something that was common knowledge as a VERY BAD THING. Jumping in the river ought to get you killed, but whether luck or fate guided them, they survived either way. After all, aboard the quickly disengaging vessels filled with the injured and confused Reptians, they could kill more.

And so they did; with whatever was on hand, ghouls filled with the thirst for blood assaulted the ships themselves. Many Reptians had dropped their arms already, but those who fought were slaughtered as if they weren't professional soldiers, but merely children. At least 2 separate ships were brought down that way, before what the occupants of Ierok had really wrought on themselves truly began to show.

The first to notice was Augus, on his way back to shore. Moving with a speed that would not be matched by a man even half his age, he felt something was off. And as he walked onto the beach, he knew what had happened. The scene around him, it was what one would have expected of a pillaging. But a more complete one. He watched as his neighbor launched himself at a child, and with a crunch, shattered his skull with a jab to the head.
>>
The frenzy, it must have had an altering affect; or how else could the elderly man explain his own movement, fellow countrmen slaying children, or his face? His face... reaching up and feeling it, he felt as if his heart had stopped, though he knew very well it remained beating harder than it should be. Rocky, ragged, and only a facsimile of a ghoul's visage. Looking at his neighbor, who lay feasting on the youngling, he recognized the same features. And yet, at the same time, his were shrinking, while on the man he once knew the features were not changing at all.

Smaller, similar scenes were playing out around the Harbor District, but those who had not given in to the blood, such as Tekhom Yuz, or the Tyrant himself, were unaffected by whatever plagued the small portion of their former allies. Forced to go around and kill the stragglers who had turned, they found themselves a hard task; for whatever their friends, family, and companions once were, they were now but beasts. What remained of the garrison served their duty in putting their blood addled comrades to rest, but they too felt distraught. This was a battle won, but at what cost?

The morning brought news that if not alarming, served its role in informing those who hid or even those injured and unconscious during the end of the fight and the rest of the night. The ghouls who felt the call to the blood the most had changed, gone feral, and transformed into truly devilish things whose corpses still lay scattered around. However, some had controlled their urges and used it for their own benefit, such as Augus; at least in the case of some, the berserker madness could be controlled. Those who failed, well, they turned into creatures who devoured flesh as quick as vultures.

It is not very often that a miracle happens, but when it does, it most certainly makes itself known.

(Feel free to talk, do free actions, or do whatever; the battle is over, but the scars remain.)

As the Painted Ghouls wander the dead looting and taking Trophies from their kills Mahk watches the scene grimly, he'd tried to keep order as his Tyrant had commanded...maybe the distrust his kin were held in didn't help? A clicking noise emerged from under his shroud as he held it tighter to himself, maybe her should have spoke up? Would it have changed anything if he had? He knew there would be a cost for their power, there always was...

As he wandered he looked upon the twisted visage of the Ghoul consumed by what the painted now called "The Crimson Hunger" their forms twisted. He felt a pull in the back of his mind to eat...he would be wary of this voice for now he knew where it would lead him, but still the dead deserved their peace and to return to the people.

"Get some men to asses the damage and
repair what they can."

The Tyrant takes a moment to inspect the corpse of these feral Ghouls with his blade. A soldier next to Tarhan has his own weapon ready as if the corpse were still alive and ready to strike begins to speak.
"That...thing is dead right?"

"They should be."
The Tyrant says while noting the changes to the body when it when it was still alive. Gaunt with longer extremities.
"Were going to have to keep an eye on the blood feasting from now on."

He now stands
"Where'd Falzer get off to?"
>>

>>2114911
Mahk the Painted Ghoul approaches the Tyrant, he bring among the few who did not loose themselves to the frenzy.
"Tyrant of mine, we may wish to hold the feasting for now...lest we awaken the Hunger again...I never thought i'd say it but for today enough blood."
The painted one gives the Tyrant a slow nod as he makes to join those Painted present, alot of red ink to collect and trophies to take, lots of Skulls to line the cave, lots of bodies to loot. A busy night was ahead
>>
>>2114943
"Thats probably a good idea for now."
>>
>>2114912
You find yourself somehing that is most definitely Reptian; a brownish red toga, probably worn by some kind of commandant. Or maybe it's a white robe stained with blood. Who is to know?
>>
As the next two days wear on, a few more discoveries are made, the first noted by the tyrant; the monsters seem to be skinnier and possess strange traits, such as longer arms, fingers, and toes. Furthermore, their ears grow further outwards, almost as if a grotesque imitation of some animal. As survivors go about their business the first night, a second disaster strikes. People dead, and furthermore, the ferals back in action. However, a Capan claims he knows the problem. Looking at a corpse the day prior, he opened it up and saw the second heart still beating, and a very slight amount of breath being drawn. He stabbed the beast in a panic and the heart stopped; but only when impaled itself...
The past few nights had not been so grim for other Ieran forces, though their victories perhaps not so as significant. Days prior, Chad and his men had just broken through the enemy lines and were on route to Tatom.

Commander, state your plan.

The Reptian countryside has troubles with raiders it would seem, and with the blow dealt to their army a thousand men strong, there is none fast enough to stop the raping of the land, and those who dwell within it. With as much damage done as possible within a decent time frame, 5 days later, on the 6th of Hoktis, they arrive late at the gates of Ierok, having used their time raiding and gathering necessary supplies. While the gate itself appears immaculate, within contains a much different story. A malaise seems to be present here, and the people dulled by it; while the tyrant is there to greet them, he utters but a few words while taking Chad to the Concord. There, a group is gathered; missing some familiar faces and adding no new ones.
>>
>>2115104
"Bloody war so far Tyrant, where are the rest of the men?"
>>
>>2115104
"Welcome back Chad, Good hunting I assume?" A Painted Ghoul offers Chad a drink as he enters the Hut. "it has been an..enlightening few days here"
>>
>>2115127
"We have raped our way across Reptar, one army of theirs has been crushed. How fairs Ierok?"
>>
>>2115132
"They came. There was blood. Too much, in fact, those that feasted too much became feral- wild beasts craving only flesh."
>>
>>2115120
"Part of the Reptian fleet sailed up the river and assaulted the walls of Ierok. Brought giants with them, one of which threw a damned ship bow at the gates. Then all hell broke loss when the fighting got to its height and 'the blood rage' began to consume some of the troops."
The Tyrant pauses for a moment.
"What happened was well...a few of our own forces began to transform. Started attacking their own and rose back up from the dead when we thought we had put them down.
>>
>>2115132
The Forces of Reptar came, we fought them off well enough despite an initial bad start. Im sure you noticed the sullen mood among the people, it seems we have found the limits and the cost for our Blood Fury. The more you consume the stronger you get until our own mind is consumed, those who drank the Red too deeply became lost to us, their forms twisting and turning on any and all...At the end of the battle we were forced to put down some of our own as if they were beasts."
*The painted Ghoul shifts uncomfortably*
"having to slay our own kill after facing such a force has brought sadness and shame, thought...with our return and such good news moral may gain increase. Again welcome back Metalar, welcome home"
>>
>>2115145
"Where is Kato and the army?"
>>
>>2115173
"Another part of the Reptian fleet was heading for Threetans. Kato went out to stop them from taking the settlement."
>>
>>2115173
“Khoril”
>>
>>2115192
"I shall ride to his aid then, those Reptarian cowards will die to a man."
>>
And along the coast Chad and his men rode, the trip taking a day, though they pushed themselves and their camels hard. However, they stopped once a scout reported back; the army was stationed at Khoril for whatever reason. Upon arrival, he made straight for the leader's tent to discuss with Kato and the officers the current situation. For, while Ier was doing well on food due to this summer, a prolonged war could only mean hardship even if not starvation.
>>
>>2115301
"Greetings Kato, how goes the fighting? What is the Reptarian position."
>>
>>2115323
“The fighting goes nowhere I’m afraid. The Reptian army, just as strong as mine, opted to sit on top of a hill after sacking threetans, waiting for us. Decided it best to pullback to the plains near Khoril. Perhaps you and your camel riders can help defeat the Reptians.”
>>
>>2115341
"We cannot engage them on a hill, we need to lure them out somehow."
>>
>>2115341
"I got it! We can menace their ships forcing them to fight us or be cut off!"
>>
>>2115359
“I’m sure your riders can serve such a role. The Reptians certainly didn’t bring anything in the way cavalry with them on those boats.”
>>
>>2115376
"We need a day rest before we can continue."
>>
>>2115378
“Very well.”
>>
A quick conversation, but that was all that was truly needed; the day after the rest, a march. As the armies stood arranged once more, it was quite clear that Reptia was taking advantage of the natural luxuries the area they were sitting in allowed. While the bounty was naturally high in the summer, it was entirely possible Threetans had been sacked for lack of food. Or, well, maybe; the army that stood on the foot of the hill did not look lacking, but then again, so might any from atop such a position. There they stood: invader and resistance upon a patch of land that was for the first time to see blood spilled upon it. The Ieran army, the commanders could only hope, was prepared to fight with their nation at stake. And that, Rok willing, would be enough.
