As the sun shines through the dirt of your cockpit, you realize two things: one, this is not the polluted fringe world you remember steering into, and two, your map systems can't pinpoint anything. There are no signals on your comms. You are lost.

You are:
>An Ace Pilot. Master of mech combat, and good looking, when it comes to sustaining your vehicle, you rely on others. You're helpless without it.
Perks:
-Asspull - Negate a failed roll once per combat
-Rockstar - All favors done have increased renown
-Top Gun - Bonus to ranged attacks.
-Shoot-Em-Up - can 'fire all weapons' once per combat. Cannot stack. Next turn is skipped.

>An Operative. A covert agent for the military. Your mech is merely an armed vehicle to you. Master of combat and stealth outside it, you still need backup of other agents.
Perks:
-Close Call - An attack that would kill you cannot once per battle.
-Sound of Silence - bonus to sneaking without mech.
-Cloak and Dagger - can silently kill an unaware target once per combat with initiative.
-Platformer - able to climb walls and jump over gaps normal people cannot.

>A Mechanic. You just were taking this thing on a joyride, oh shit. You are in so much trouble. You know this mech inside and out, and can fix anything. what you can't, you can jury-rig.
Perks
-Strategic Retreat - Fleeing will be successful.
-Electric Eye - Can scout with remote drones.
-Unbroken - Weapons cannot be destroyed, only disabled in combat.
-Survival - Bonuses to building and repairing.

Perks:

An asymmetrical. A bit swifter and heavily armed, you feel a bit safer knowing you have the durable war machine under you. The specific model though, is what makes all the difference.

>Newt. A big, fat, practical weapons platform. It relies on keeping distance to hammer targets with range.
Armaments:
-Cruise missile array. - fires cruise missiles. seeker weapon
-Railgun - the most powerful in anti-armor kinetic weapons, easy to fire.
-2 heavy cannon turrets. - staple weapon
-Additional armor

>Axolotl. Experimental, and mounted with stealth tech, this mech can turn invisible! It can either get close or take foes at medium range.
Armaments
-Energy blade/mech claws. - A blade that slices through armor like hot butter, and claws that can tear through metal.
-Heavy Anti-armor cannon - staple weapon
-Cruise missile silo - fires cruise missiles.
-Seeker missiles - seeker explosives.
-Stealth system - go invisible.

>Salamander Squat and oddly rounded, the Salamander bears the latest weapons in warfare, with a powerful reactor to power them.
Armaments
-Onager - meant for downing starcrusiers, mounting this weapon was a miracle.
-Energy Beam - A mining tool weaponized as a great beam of death.
-seeker missile bank - small seeker weapon.
-Heavy Anti-armor cannon. - staple weapon
-Top secret power supply - allows use of atypical weapons.

But realistically, the salamander's armaments' ranges don't match up together too well, which means Shoot-Em-Up becomes less usable. And, of course, superweapons always tend to have some annoying downsides to their use.

Meanwhile, we have bonuses to ranged combat, which makes the Axolotl's melee options less preferable, even without considering the hassle required to actually get into melee range.

Not one for subtlety, you chose the massive brute of the Newt, terror of battlefields.

You wipe the windows clear of your cockpit. Around you stretches... Trees? Trees. Are you on a resort world? That's not right. That'd be light-years away from your post at best!

Checking the comms trafic, you find... nothing. Zilch, nada.

For some reason, your fuel and ammo is reading as full. you were shorted for the excercises though... what's happening? You survey the lay of the land...

There is a city! No, cities have spires into the clouds. This looks like a walled recreation of an ancient city humans once made, with a palace in the center. IS this one of those worlds rich LARPers buy to pretend to be medieval?

There's a town closer to you too! Along a river you can see a great plume of smoke and a crowd of people within a wooden wall. There are no electronic signals. Is it a performance? There is a stage.

Off to one side, you can trace a river out of this forest. it extends into mountains behind you.

There is a large gathering of nonhuman lifeforms on your sensors away from the town and city's direction.

>what's your course of action, pilot?
>>
>>2123608

well THIS is a twist.

town i guess?
>>
>>2123606
Each plays differently. The Newt is basically a brute. none of them are bad choices.

>>2123601
>only the onager is a superweapon.
The Salamander is intended to bring a decently rounded set of weapons intended to either kill outright or sustain fire.
>>
>>2123608
What's our sensor suite like? Can we analyze the town from a distance?

Otherwise, switch off most of our auxiliary systems; we may want to conserve power if there isn't any resupply to be found in this foreign environment.
>>
>For the record, if anyone is worried, yes, there WILL be mech fights

>>2123618

>>
>>2123618
>>2123621
You flick off auxiliary systems, causing outside air to seem in. Vegetation. You haven't smelled that since you were a child... before your homeworld was evacuated... The nostalgia. No time to reminisce. You check your sensor suite. You have good range on your mech, enough to listen in if you stay in the treeline, but at this range, you can still scan.

You can read 300+ human life forms. Traces of unknown energy, and no electronic devices. There is a bonfire in the center in town. About ten people are positioned around stage, while the rest stay in a large crowd. you find large amounts of forged iron, concentrated at two buildings and the humans on the stage, save one.

>>2123637

Regrettably, your mech is not meant for civic action, and has no speakers you can use. Normally you'd use any nearby speaker system and hijack it, but the town and city lack this system.

All you can do is hide and listen in, or stride right into town with your mech... provided you stay in the safety of the machine.

>>2123647
you move your mech to a minimum distance of the town to hear. the trees obscure the mech, but you are able to listen in just fine. There is a large wooden structure at the edge of the village with a large amount of the strange energy within and a few human signatures. There is also energy coming from the men around the stage, who appear to be wearing armor, and a woman. There are human lifesigns fading in the bonfire that dominates the town center.

You have arrived just in time as the woman is brought onto the stage. "By the decree of our revered goddess, and the holy empress, we find this woman guilty of abusing the power of our priests without declaring her loyalty to the holy empress! She shall be sentenced to purification in cleansing fire!"
The woman, who has been masked with something, protests, "Please! I'm not a heretic! I've healed families in this town for years! Someone, stop them! They were-"
"In addition to this heinous crime, this woman was also found guilty of stealing from the granary and stealing livestock to sell to the forest folk. Hence, she shall have her hands removed before the cleansing."
"It was them! They were stealing! I would never!" The crowd merely boos her into silence and pelts her with rotten food.

Hey, they're actually burning people alive there. LARPing or not, that's too far. In violation of SEVERAL laws.

You look for your speakers. The mech isn't meant for civic duty, but you do have a warning system... It's... loud.

You drive your mech in, stepping over the wooden wall. the reaction from the crowd is immediate, screaming and scattering away from you as you level your guns at the armored men on stage.

Your microphone wines as the loudspeakers crackle. Your voice, altered by your helmet, booms through the town.
"Attention, you are in violation of federal law. Cease your activities at once, or I will have to use force."

The soldier stares at the Newt, dumbfounded, before motioning to the other men, "By the goddess, a demon! Someone notify the Holy knights! Men, attack with me!" Leaving the woman tied on a post, a group of the men rush the feet of your mech.

>You are in combat, roll for- Hahahahah, what am I kidding, these morons are trying to cut through carbon nanofiber-lined titanium alloy.

Then the large building bursts open. Rising from the shadows of the wreckage, a humanoid mech is visible. No power signatures detected. It has a lance and a sword... and no ranged weapons.

>We now have to find a way to maintain this mech with no support in medieval fantasy land, or find a friendly mech pilot who can actually fix things.

Unless this QM really knows how to play with tropes and subvert expectations I suspect some form of support will be made available sooner or later.

Maybe the Covert Ops might have been viable but then everyone would have been wanting to constantly leave the mech and be Solid Snek, or a Ghost. In which case it's no longer a mech quest. Then again if we doubled up on a stealth character and a stealth mech that might have been interesting.

All the same the entire premise of this quest primes the players to pick Ace over other possible choices.

I used to wonder why QTG seemed to think character gen was bad ,but these days I'm starting to realize why.

You level your railgun at the other mech and fire at the legs. The shot goes off, perhaps you hit your head when you appeared here? Regardless, it gouges a hole in the ground just behind the mech.

The strange humanoid vehicle glances back and pauses... You'd think the pilot never saw a railgun shot before.

"Unlicensed mech!" You assume this due to the lack of IFF or registry numbers, "Stand down and state rank! Any closer and I shoot!"

The other mech turns back to you, pointing the lance, "By the goddess what sorcery was that?!"

These guys are really taking the LARP seriously. You note that the mech's armor on one foot has taken damage from the debris. ...from the debris... it was damaged by the rocks you kicked up. What sort of armor does this thing have?

The ammo gauges... read full. Wait, it just reloaded... storage is full. That can't be right. Your ammo sensors must be borked. Holy hell did the technicians duct tape the interior sensors again?!

The other mech draws the sword with its free hand... it's steel. The sword is steel.

"You face Quixote of the Royal Knights of the Goddess! I am the destroyer of giants!" You absently wonder if he confuses windmills for giants. It takes a hostile stance, "I won't stand down for the likes of you, monster!"

>asspull engaged.

Your run opens fire on the knight. You put all your focus into getting this done. The shots blast the legs off first, then the arms, in accordance with disabling tactics. After this, your barrel rifling needs to cool. You don't know where the cockpit could be, but it's not in the limbs. The mech collapses to the ground, its limbs blown apart. The helmet's light flickering. The strange energy readings are rapidly lowering.

"H-how? I couldn't parry-" Quixote cuts off, immobilized. You look about, noting the soldiers at your feet were trampled while you shifted position to fire... whoops.

Between the downed mech and the bonfire, the woman stands, chained to the stage.

Quixote is disabled.

You move your mech to step on Quixote's, just to be sure. Lowering your vehicle, you open the cockpit. Your pistol drawn, you climb down. It seems the villagers are hiding from the mech after it beat the shit out of their guardian.

The hatch to Quixote's mech is easy enough to open. You level your gun at the man.

"Is that a pistol?" Quixote asks, coming to. he seems find but, very much tied down by his straps.

"I ask the questions." You reply, tying him in before rescuing the woman. She's easy to free. You simply shoot the chain free.

"I'm the best at what I do, and right now that is saving beautiful women." You respond. The chained woman stares at you incredulously as if you just said you were the master of love.

"S-so... you mistook me at a distance and rescued a convicted witch? Putting yourself against the church of the All-powerful goddess?" She stammers. You realize up close that this girl is a mess. she probably hasn't slept. If it wasn't for your suit filters the smell of the town would probably be awful. A+ for authenticity LARPers, ew.

You move to Quixote, "Right, I'll ask the questions now. Where'd you get the mech?"

"The what?" Quixote is confused.

"The giant armored piece of shit you tried to fight me with. The thing I blew apart."

"The... Goddess Knight? You mean the goddess knight, right? The Empress awards them to the royal knights... who are you if you don't know this? To be this close to the capital..." Goddamnit, there's someone supplying these?

"Where does SHE get them?"

"I will never betray the Empress! The goddess will smite me from on high for such betrayal!" This Larping is getting seriously annoying.

"Kay, drop the roleplay, buddy, I'm pretty much the army."

"The what? You are of no army I know of! You're a coward hiding your face under that mirrored mask! A demon, sent to test us! I am nothing but the lowest rank! Other knights will destroy you, fiend!"

"Please, I broke your shitty knight, the whole country frobably is just as easy to take down! Maybe I should march right to the capital, grab your whore of an empress, and burn her in this pretty campfire you made for me!" You respond, tired of the LARP shit.

"You bastard, you think you can take down the Knights?! the come from the goddess hersel-" The knight cuts off... to scream. It's like he's being burned from inside. He goes a glowing white, then implodes, leaving an empty set of pilot armor.

You manage to shake your head clear of something that felt... bad... only to find yourself removed from both mech and woman. Someplace filled with mist and light.

A strange entity, looking like a beautiful woman with wings... and a halo, looks at you with reproach.
"A shame, I couldn't burn out your soul. So the one killing my worshippers, disrupting the purge of heretics, and destroying my knights is an outsider..." She states, glaring at you.

Her eyes narrow, "I didn't bring you here, but since I can't kill you... I'll have to summon another to do it. You don't look like much... One hero should do it."

With that the world fades into being... You stagger, the witch is beside you.

"Are you alright?!"

"Tactical retreat." You scoop up the woman and carry her heroically into the mech. After you set her down in your cockpit and quickly shut the door do you take stock.

Okay, so there is... SOMEONE who claims to be a goddess... who can override your senses. Gas? No, the dude was dead. this is an illusion, right?

You decide to hand the woman one of your nutrient bars. She looks it over befopre nibbling it. She quickly scarfs it down.

"S'so good!" She says through a full mouth. Yeah, no, these things taste horrible. Processed bricks of god knows what with flavoring.

You take her down from the cockpit to cargo. it's largely empty. You manage to throw together a place to rest using canvas cowling and tell her to sleep there.

You take stock of your parts. There's enough to repair joints and recouple weapons. The toolkit is basic. the air canisters can probably help cycle air if you turn off aux power... actually...

You stride into the forest, dipping into the trees. The mech, now hidden, needs the lights on to navigate under the dense foliage. you're a good distance now... The city to one side, the town behind you, rolling fields after. Ahead, a cluster of lifesigns... to the opposite side of the city, mountains at the edge of this valley.

The river makes a pass up there. Interestingly if you focus your sensors, you can detect VERY slight electrical activity, but it flickers in and out, as if buried underground.
The forest lifesigns are not human, but near that size. They appear to be where the forest is far more dense. smaller lifeforms flit around the outside of this region.

You nestle your mech in an alcove, hiding it between rock formations. You head down to the cargo hold where your sleeping passenger is. It doesn't take much to awaken her. Groggy, she looks toward you. the bit of sleep seemed to help her but it's not near enough.

"Wha? Where?"

"The mountains... now, first things first. Will you burn out from inside from answering?"

She shakes her head, "Not a follower of Mera. Only priests and royal knights do that. I'm a heretic."

"What makes you a heretic?"

"Used magic that wasn't church-approved." Okay.... she did say magic. That doesn't exist. No way it can. We're talking fantasy stuff here. wait wait... could still be LARP. Magic could just be any sort of technology they hide somewhere. Man, these guys are seriously committed.

>Who is she? What does she mean by 'witch'? Where is she from, and where's a good place to eventually drop her off - since you assume she doesn't want to stay with you indefinitely.

I'm of the impression that, as a Captain, one of Alex's main priorities would be to reunite with his men. That would require reorienting himself and finding a way off of wherever this is. And naturally, upholding the regulations of the Federation - though one thing you learn rapidly in the military is just much those regulations can be bent without breaking them.

Most other things would be secondary. Even getting laid is something you do in bars when off-duty, not on the battlefield.

"Who are the major groups here?"

"Aside from The Empress? Well, there's the pantheon, but in the holy empire, only Mera has power... unless you go outside human lines..."

"Right..." You don't get any of this. Pantheon? "What settlements aren't under the goddess?"

"Well, the forest folk, for one, the dwarves and orcs in the mountains come to mind... for humans, those are far, far away."

"Alright, so... assuming you don't know the location of a starport-"

"A what now?"

"...nevermind, you won't break character. What's a witch, and where is a safe place to take you?"

"A witch is... someone who doesn't use typical pantheon-based spells... more... atypical ones. And... that town was my home, I was born there. I don't have anywhere else..."

You dig through the toolbox. it's standard equipment, a plasma cutter, welding tool, multi-function tool, melding glue, nanopaste, insulated gloves, welding mask, and the toolbox itself if you wanted a weapon... Wait, plasma cutter!

Grinning, you grip the handle, the tiny blade of energy lighting up, "Hold still." the beam slices through the collar lock like warm butter. it falls to the floor with a metal clank. Hilda feels her neck.

"Wow... what an amazing tool..." she stares in disbelief.

"Can you show magic now?" You ask. She nods, producing a black flame above one hand...

hah.

hahahahahah... This is an illusion, right? Like stage magic at casinos, right? You reach out to touch it, and she quickly makes it vanish before you make contact.

"Are you trying to light yourself on fire?!" ...so it's dangerous? Okay then... "Are we in one spot? We should probably go find somewhere to hide from the royal knights!"

"Any suggestions?"

"Well, there are the dwarves in the mountains, and the elves in the deep forest, but finding them is near impossible..."

You get the feeling that something is awaiting you where the energy readings in the mountains were.

You clamber back to the cockpit. The mech slides out of the alcove. You want to find the dwarves. Hilda pokes her head up.

"Oh! You're already here! Uuuh... I've only heard traders say dwarves are here. I thought they had a trade post..."

You look around with sensors. The crude camp lies in the distance.
>This is a local camp, possibly full of 'orcs' all you know is they ride big wolves.

There is a mountain with strange energy readings coming from it, and a path you can just make out.
>This seems to call to you. Are there answers to why you are here? Hilda can't see the path at all, but senses powerful magic... Not Mera's.

A cave is far off. It looks too short for your mech to enter. A fire flickers deep inside, but illuiminates nothing.
>You will have to go on foot here... given the visibility, that might lead to your demise.

You could also return to the valley...

You are faced with another god, but while Mera gave off light, this one gives off a sinister vibe.

"Mortal, you dare step foot at the shrine of Zavar outside a tribute day? You are either an agent of the usurper or a fool!" He draws a sword and pauses.

"No, wait, you are without her blessing... You have..." he starts to laugh, "You are a summoned one! Bearing the mark of... the pantheon? what is this..." He vanishes for a moment, leaving you in the white void.

Zavar returns to the void he left you in, laughing, "So, mortal... Here is the deal... It seems the gods of the pantheon have had enough of Mera. So you were summoned, not by any of us, but the combined will of the pantheon... and dropped into Mera's territory. As such, none of us can claim you... but..."

His glowing eye narrowed, "There is a caveat... You see, these shrines serve two purposes. Our followers worship here and give offerings, but our champions, summoned heroes, can come here after defeating enemies... and obtain a blessing."

He sheathed his sword, "But since you were summoned by EVERYONE, you get a little... benefit. Should you complete a task for the shrine, you will be allowed to choose a blessing, or the blessing of two gods with interest in you. Be warned though, blessings done from other gods at one god's shrine will be seen as an insult, and you will be subject to a... modification of that blessing by the god who owns the shrine."

I am Zavar, God of Corruption. I twist the nature of things. For making the pilgrimage to my shrine, I will offer a blessing to you... But two other gods,Krotek of war, and Oriith of innovation, also have offers... I will tell them to you now... Choose at your peril."

>continues

>Krotek offers Warrior's speed, giving you the ability to melee twice outside your mech. Zavar will make it so using this ability makes you less intelligent, but physically stronger each time.

"Fine, fine, I'll take your damn magic. Is it really a blessing if I'm being forced to take it, though?" You reply before the angry evil god.

"Good choice." He waves a gauntlet-covered hand and you feel some sort of... hot power course through you.

"A shame you didn't stay on that path, I could have used a new succubus." He is about to dismiss you when you speak up.

"Do you know a Hilda? She's been hitching a ride with me."

The god pauses, "I don't concern myself with witches like yours. Maybe you can ask at the shrine to the nature goddess in that forest, or maybe you could find the goddess of information's shrine on the coast? Farewell, mortal."

You are back in the cockpit now. Hilda is shaking you. "Please, talk to me!"

"Stop!" She lets go, "What the hell?"

"You were staring ahead and not talking for a long time! We need to get moving! I saw a dragon fly by earlier!"

"I think I can learn dark magic. Know any spells?"

"How does magic work?" You ask.

"Kind of like a feeling? If you had a scroll or tome, it would tell you..." Can you even read such texts?

"Alright... What's the story with the pantheon?"

"Well, there's evil gods and good gods. They make up the pantheon. Evil gods deal with things like corruption, disease, madness, decay, war, while good gods get things like love, purity, life, knowledge. Then there are neutral gods, neither good nor evil, like those of innovation, nature, weather... I don't know all the names, but that shrine was to a corruption god. His curses can twist beings into demons that act on his will, or his priests can do the same... or change the very thoughts of people."

"And... they are at war?"

"...well, Mera sort of... ousted most of the pantheon. They still exist but Mera's empire eliminated most of the shrines they could find. She has shrines too..." ...shrines that you can visit that she must bless you at. Interesting.

"Visi- you-you're summoned! You were summoned here! But... two different shrines... how can two gods claim you?"

"None of them do."

"...what? No no no, that's not right, each god chooses... if none summoned, what brought you here?"

"All of them."

"..." Hilda stares at you with a strange mix of wonder and horror.

"What sort of magic do you use?"
"Human-made magic, mostly. My grandmother taught me from a tome back before the country became the holy empire." She paused, "they burned that book when they found it... after convicting me with it."

You think a bit, "What IS Mera's domain?"

"Originally? It was peace. Now it's purity. well, more than that, she sort of took all the roles of the 'good' gods." She sighed, "Her followers would desecrate and smash shrines to destroy them."

"Why are these beings gods?"

"...that's a good question. I think they made the world, but they all control parts of it." Hilda remarks. You note the lifeforms are avoiding your mech on the sensors... You are approaching the shrine. It's... a mossy stone, set in a pool in a glade.

"Use this if anything approaches, talk to it..." You hand her the loudspeaker mic.

You take a step forward. The world fades to white.

"I'm going to take the natural cure, Acarit."

"Oh fuck. sweet. More importantly, that a yes on the pizza?"

"Yeah."

"Niiiice." The goddess smiles and something comes over you. You feel a bit healthier.

The world fades into being, with the words, 'drop by again sometime at one of my shrines.' lingering.

You awaken in your cockpit. There is a pouch of goddess's weed in your hand.

"They wouldn't leave..." Hilda whispers, pointing to something.

Before you is someone in a hood. It appears they have a pizza.

"By order of the goddess, I have been told to give you a large pineapple-pepperoni pizza... and escort you to our village." Wow, the goddess actually ordered you some pizza.

You note anothe has been left at the shrine. When you look again, it's gone. Should you follow the elf?

I'd consider punishing us for just using something given to us as a reward for rolling well to be a dick move.

"Thank you for the pizza, lead on." You reply, taking the pizza. The elf nods, her face hidden by a hood. You follow her as she moves into the area with the tallest trees.

Then she stopped. With a few motions, she vanished. You looked around, an ambush? Hilda taps your shoulder and points up. A city of buildings attached to the tall trees.

The next thing you know, there are elves on top of your mech around your cockpit.

You produce the goddess weed. the leader of the group gasps and pulls back.

"A pouch of her stash... no, that's HER pouch! Do you have any idea what that is?"

"She told me it's the good shit." You retort, confident, "Why? Want some?"

"What some of us would do for a taste of that... it's said to be like ascending to a state of heavenly bliss. Only the grand elder ever had any, and he used it up!" Others must have not asked. Their loss, really.

"Well, I have it now."

"...in endless supply. What do you want?" The gaze from his hooded eyes is hungry, like eyeing something he'd always wanted, "What will it take to get some of that?"

Seems that they have a bit of an addiction to the high.

Hilda leans in, safely silent inside your cockpit, "While they are often noble and arrogant to others, I hear high elves will do anything to experience the best high... They probably won't steal it from you though, that's a gift from a major goddess..."

"...Point taken..."

The elf bows, "Yes, right away. You... will share some of that with me if I do this?"

"I'll share it with you and whoever makes the best pizza here." That oughta get you good incentive. The leader rushes off in a flurry and vanishes, leaving the rest dumbfounded.

"You, inn elf. I'll give you some if you get us to the inn." The elf nods

"You can's access the city, but we'll fix that..." He places something on the hull and leads you to the clearing where he vanished. Following behind, there is a flash. Your mech is in the midst of a city in the foliage. platforms below form streets and pathways. The elf guides you to a large building. Parking your mech, you exit with Hilda, closing the machine behind you.

The city seems to stop and stare as you pass, bag in hand, as you enter the inn. With a few quick words, the innkeeper rushes you to luxury accommodations. Beds, a view of the forest below, baths, toilets... all the amenities of the wealthy, all for a pinch of weed.

Hilda takes no time in going to the bath. You can hear her sigh in relief. You pop open your helmet, taking a bite of the pizza. It's good, certainly made fresh. You know the difference. a fresh canteen pizza beat frozen anytime.

Hilda exits the bath wearing a robe from the inn, she stops and stares as you chew the pizza.

"You.. you do have a face. I was starting to doubt..." She admits, a bit embarrassed.

We need to get tons of food rations from the elves, and then we need to get repair magic. If our mech gets fucked we are utterly fucked. "Well, you're very handsome... when... not eating elven food." So Pizza is elven food? interesting.. Although you come to the realization that there will be no convenience stores, and while you could put a fridge in the mech, where the hell will you find one.

"So we need to decide on what to do. We basically got free money for these elves, since they'll literally burn this stuff up. So I need to think about what to do... Are there any spells for mechs?"

"The Mirna and Mera, goddesses of knowledge and purity would know. But, I mean, to get to Mera's you'd have to assault her capital right now. Considering what you did in my hometown, they've probably scrambled their forces, but you'd face multiple royal guards..."

"There is a knowledge goddess shrine nearby too..." You state, but Hilda is confused.

"But... Mera destroys all the shrines in her territory... Only shrines in dangerous areas are safe..."

"So... Acarit is dangerous?"

"REALLY dangerous. This is deep enchanted forest. if you weren't summoned, we probably would never be able to leave... Perhaps you should find a shrine of knowledge..."

"First thing's first though, we need amenities..." And to experience that party too.

Rations, beds, magic... these seem high on your priority to get.

often times just lurk but this is a good thread, has a good writing style, and how OP is a drawfriend makes it great along with the setting, was expecting the typical crash landing/extremely lost setting, but this fantasy/larp world thing is a nice twist so keep it up OP.

definitely wait for more people's opinions before making an update based on what i post, because i do not post in these often.

Based on our situation, we should try and get water and any preserved/dried food that we do not need cold storage for from these elves, so we do not have to worry about it for a while if we are out in the wilderness for a while searching for shrines or on a side quest/odd job for someone, after the food and water primary need is taken care of, we should search the village for a store or anything we could buy that would be useful in a survival situation if our mech got stranded or wrecked out away from anybody who could help repair it.

It would also be good to take up the elves who offered services in >>2130347
on their offers particularly the guy who offered the forged mythril blade and the clothier, say we need proper attire for a meeting with a king or a party/gala/upper class party thing and not just our mech pilot gear, then the mythril blade for something we could rely on other than our sidearm and mech, or maybe we get challenged to a duel by one of the holy knights and we are not in a position to decline like a duel for our freedom if we are captured or if we want to appear honorable/masculine to a new waifu goddess i mean it's essentially free to us and it could be circumstantially useful and will take up virtueally no space in our cargo hold.
>>
>>2133139
cont
after which we should search for anyone who could help us as a companion like an elf who could help us repair our mech or maybe an elven healer because if we get into a tussle outside of our mech (we definitely will at some point) no god damn way we will come out of every fight unscathed

It would be nice to find something to do as a side quest like fetch a lost item, escort a traveling elf bard to another elven city, just anything that would get us more conventional currency because it would be a nice change to hopping from shrine to shrine getting blessing after blessing from gods and goddesses, and OPs not gonna be this generous forever and we will come across a civilization/ township that will not accept a helping to a divine pouch of weed as payment for something sooner or later and some actual currency (or a item of value that could be traded or sold) would be nice to have for that reason

It would also be useful to find anyone who can teach us any rad magix or survival skills because in the very first post OPs fluff text for the ace pilot essentially said (if i can remember) that he relied a lot on his mech and others for support outside of it, so if we are separated from our companion(s) we will have a much higher chance for survival or getting out of the situation un-injured
>>
>>2133139

>>
>>2133163
Thank you. I try to make the quest as entertaining as possible without retreading. But you are right...

...things are going to get tougher. The world will react to you, and there are tougher things than a newbie knight with a flimsy melee mech.
>>
>>2133163
that about sums up what i think we should do or seek out in the elven village, if any anons want to add input or shoot down any ideas go ahead.

first and foremost, based on this >>2130355
Mera summoned a champion/hero of sorts to hunt down us just as we were summoned by the pantheon to take down Mera, we need more blessings from shrines to prepare our selves, seeing as we are stranded in a pretty hostile world we know pretty much nothing about we should get blessings, skills (for use out of our mech), equipment, and companions to aid us on this quest because we have a very powerful enemy with an entire empire of worshippers.

I think we should seek out the shrine of knowledge immediately we conclude our business (and side quests if we get any) in the elf village to meet with the knowledge god to ask about the world its self, particularly about the sentient races that may help us, the outlying human civilizations that are not hostile to us/not in the empire, it's creatures and beasts/monsters, we know there's dragons and that's about it would be nice knowing what we may face on a side quest thing or just out in the world, along with possible repair methods for our mech, also it would be nice to ask about the history of the world, especially if it's actually a LARP world because OP has me very interested in the threads setting

following getting the blessing from the god of knowledge we should seek out a dwarven city/ settlement for anyone who can help repair our mech because if we haven't found anyone by then we will definitely find one in a dwarven settlement

would also be good to find someone to help us use our magic, we currently just have dark which is cool, but I don't know about using it if it will make us loose our humanity the more we use it

don't really know what to add now but, yeah great quest OP i hope you go on with it until the end and don't end up dropping it, it is very good so far, i have a bit of input feel free to acknowledge it or not, but it would be nice to spend some time doing other things like side quests than jumping from shrine to shrine getting blessings until we are prepared enough to fight Mera, also would be nice to have to do something for some gods before they immediately just grant us a blessing just for reaching their shrine, i know we've only visited two shrines so far just don't want things to get stale.

Again, great thread OP really like it so far, along with the fact that you draw along with your posts, hope you didn't take offense (for whatever reason) to my feedback just my input on the shrines, i may end up sketching out some art of some occurrences in the thread, would be nice to have a much more detailed/enlarged picture of the newt like the scale of it compared to stuff like buildings and trees so i have more to go on, along with weapon placements on it like what goes where so to speak.
>>
>>2132891
Apart from those, I'm still of the opinion that we should be getting as much intel as possible. Ask if there's a local library of some sort that we can peruse.
>>
>>2133172
thanks for supporting anon, and yeah we should definitely get some common clothes aswell if we need to blend into a crowd they will definitely be very useful
>>
>>2133209
your welcome OP quest has been very entertaining and interesting so far, definitely one of the bests on the board currently, i really hope you do not drop it and loose interest or have it go into a really long hiatus like so many other quests have been, and good to hear about the whole world will get tougher thing, because that whole battle with the low-tier bitchboy knight felt like the scene from indiana jones where he just shoots the arab guy who does all the sword tricks in the crowded street
>>
>>2133172
>>2133225
Are we planning on spending extended periods out of our mech? Given our choice of character type, I assume it's best we spend as much time as we can behind a shitton of armor.

This is, of course, working off the assumption that our primary goal would be to find a way home as quickly as possible, rather than become a denizen of this world.
>>
>>2133227
we would have to first learn if this was a LARP world which would have some form of communication or a spaceport or something to get us off world, if not and we are in a more medevial/fantasy world, where technology doesn't even compare to the 16-1700s of earth yet, in which we will likely be stranded until someone with a ship chances upon the world or we build some sort of a long range distress beacon, which seems unlikely, so it maybe getting home would be a much more secondary goal and a primary goal would be doing what we were summoned by the pantheon for, destroying/straightening out Mera the goddess of purity

as for the staying in our mech thing yeah we definitely will be in our mech a lot of the time for combat especially based on our character type, but we are definitely able to do atleast basic combat outside of the mech i mean why wouldn't we be trained in that, sure we wouldn't be as great as the second character type for combat actions outside the mech, but we definitely aren't completely helpless in a pinch, plus circumstantially there will be a time where we can't move a mech someplace and we need to do something on foot, besides there will definitely be some combat outside of the mech eventually, and i'm sure we can pay someone for teaching us some skills like survival, or improved combat methods, like training with a sword, if we're outside in combat there's definitely going to be something our sidearm won't fix.
>>
>>2133246
Please bear in mind that this is a fully destructible world too.

>>2133227
So, go for food supplies?

...Should I make a new thread tomorrow, since this one has autosaged?
>>
>>2133251

>where technology doesn't even compare to the 16-1700s of earth yet, in which we will likely be stranded until someone with a ship chances upon the world or we build some sort of a long range distress beacon, which seems unlikely, so it maybe getting home would be a much more secondary goal and a primary goal would be doing what we were summoned by the pantheon for
I would argue that, since there is some kind of magic or technology that managed to specifically target and transport us over some unknown distance here, with no apparent will effects, there is a decent chance of there being something similar to send us back.

Furthermore, we owe absolutely nothing to this pantheon as a whole - which, for all intents and purposes, kidnapped us, prevented us from doing our duty to the Federation and seem to be on their way to murdering us by proxy. Unless one of them can specifically promise us a return ticket, I would sooner seek out and serve the goals of someone else who can.

Free goddess weed gets Acarit a pass in my book, though.

assuming that this isn't a LARP world and this is a world with gods with divine power (definitely seems like it, a god gave us endless bag of weed and one gave us the power to do dark magic) there is definitely some way they teleported us there, so there must be a way back whether it's just them teleporting us at a whim or them showing us a hidden portal or something I didn't even think about "going back the way we came" so to speak thing.

we TECHNICALLY don't owe them shit, but what are they going to do if we refuse the pantheon must be a pretty decent amount of gods so if every god is pissed at us for not obeying what's going to happen? they are going to send their followers, curse us whatever, they can't just smite us like Mera did to that one holy knight because we are an outsider but what's one guy going to do against most of the gods and their followers?

then Mera has already summoned some champion or something to combat us like she said in our interaction with her then the whole meanwhile thing while we were meeting the elves and asking for pizza, so what's going to stop her from sending more? i mean strong arming the gods to give us a way back to the federation while another god that an entire empire worships is sending champions after us?

i don't really know where OP will go with every thing but i'm just saying while you have a point in saying we don't owe the gods of the pantheon shit it might not be the smartest move to not follow through with what they specifically summoned us here to do.

A detailed version of the Newt? alright...

>Created by the Union of Stars, the Newt featured a variety of technology that became standard on newer walkers, but the newt remains the most stable weapons platform to date, operated by several intergalactic nations.

The Federation Newt's servos are upgraded to match its faster descendants. The ability to mount traditionally heavier machinery without toppling is one of the greatest assets of the walker.

Newts have seen conflicts on hundreds of worlds, and while the newer Axolotl is often fielded in battle, alongside cheaper vehicle mechs, the Newt retains its stature as a battlefield juggernaut, towering over many mechs.

The older, robust design allows for armor modifications, and the large cargo space can be used as quarters and ammo stores on lengthy tours.

Newts are the largest mechs capable of being transported via dropship, making them excellent logistics assets. It is not surprising that many pilots go out of their way to retain their mech over the years.

A famous Newt, Black Betty, mounted a variety of customized weapons on its hardpoints. During the siege of Korsis VI, the mech had mounted a capital ship's laser weapon. Though the power supply had to be carried behind, it allowed Confederate forces to break the siege.

yeah sorry i over complicated things with all the secondary offers with the clothier and blacksmith, and definitely make a new thread tomorrow

for now go with supplies and food, specifically anything non perishable that will last us a long time, then meet people in the village, to see if there is anyone useful or any useful services
>>
>>2133276
thanks OP drawing helped me understand the layout a lot more, ill get to drawing some art for the thread tomorrow if it turns out well ill post it, can't draw faces for shit so ill likely try and draw the mech battle with quixote can you tell me the size dimensions of the newt aswell especially compared to quixote's huminoid mech judging from the description of the mech you gave in in this post and the cargo hold being large enough to contian a truck i'm guessing its massive but any thing else would be great

"Food is priority one!" You declare. With a robe from the inn (that she'll need to return) Hilda joins you in your shopping adventure.

Unlike planetside, the cops won't try to bust you for having this stuff out in the open. That's kinda nice, actually. You head to the food stalls. Surprisingly you see a lot of human foods, but Hilda is shocked to see them.

"Wow, a burger! I only heard traders speak of these! And fries! Whoa..." She goes around to various fresh foods. It looks like the elves specialize in, well, food for the munchies. A few of the elves are actually baked at work, though it's only at the food stalls. You manage to trade tiny pinches of weed for a ton of jerky and dried fruit. Hey, it's better than nothing, right? You manage to secure a few kegs of elvish wine, which Hilda swears is a good trade good. You buy a couple more, since she swears the dwarves would kill for a keg.

You tried to exchange money for some of the weed, but the elf just sort of stared at the bit you offered and started crying, claiming there wasn't enough money to trade for it. For a pinch you got a really big bag of coins, though.

>200 gold coins obtained (tradeable outside the high elven city.)

after you drop off your groceries in the mech, You and Hilda pause.

"I was thinking either clothing or a sword."

"Ah, what about spells?"

"If they have them."

"They have them, Captain Alex."

>You have obtained Jerky - Elvish style
>You have obtained Elvish Wine (7 kegs)
>you have obtained dried fruits - elvish style.
>Cargo currently has 1/14 tons full.
>While storing things, you realized one of the mechanics left a crate of anti-sleep in the far corner. there is a lot in there, they only used four.

You lock the cargo access.
It occurs to you that perhaps a bed or two might be needed in the Mech with Hilda along.

-In terms of size, your mech is 2/3rds Quixote's height. Your mech is 60 ft in height, with the legs not extended.
-Quixote's mech is 90 ft.

(extended legs, your mech's height would be 96')

In none of these measurements are antennae counted.
>>
>>2133299

see about fixing that.
>>
>>2133302
your mech's body length is 66 ft.

fix what? lack of beds?

Does Hilda WANT to come with us? What does she want to do with her life now that she's basically a fugitive?

With regard to the bed, I believe we have a relatively large cargo space which I assume is reachable from the cockpit. We can convert some of that into a living space.
>>
>>2133299
ccloth shopping for us and Hilda
>>
>>2133299
>>2133303
this, see if we can find some beds/ hammocks (only if they would take up less space in the hold) for us and hilda to use, along with more amenities to make the hold more livable, tables, chairs rugs (better than cold metal) just basically anything if it doesn't take up too much space.

>>2133302
>>2133303
thanks for the measurements definitely did not expect something that large maybe would have drawn it like at around 30 feet so that definitely helped out, drawing would have looked off with mechs that small and i would have guessed quixote's was smaller even with the legs not fully extended at around 25 feet.

>>2133307
i would assume so, we rescued her from being burned as a heretic and supporting your idea to convert part of the cargo hold into a living space while leaving most of the space to bring goods from place to place the elven wine for example

You head to a furnishing store. Elvish furnishings use magically formed wood, which is as durable as steel... They also have mattresses for the beds. The chairs and tables are the same, and give off an art nouveau feel. It reminds you of that fancy furniture the wealthy back home had. You take a couple area rugs, two chairs, and a table.

The beds are a tough choice.
>The bunk beds are much like those on your barracks. if you had these when you get back... yes, when you get back. Every other pilot will be jealous as hell. There is no loss of comfort, and you could use 3 before the allocated living area (the two rugs) under the cockpit is filled with your furniture.

>The hammocks you can string up anywhere, even on the supplies. You could probably get quite a number, but why would you? Maybe if you plan on getting a repair crew... You'd need 6 counting hilda and yourself.

>The luxury king-size. you can probably fit 2 of these. but they waste space and are kinda heavy.

>choose one.

After this, you think perhaps clothing or magic might be something to look into. Hilda keeps staring at the luxury bed and you.

"Y-you aren't actually considering this one, right?"

>next action?
>>
>>2133339
"Mabye but we might have space for only one " *cue suggestive eyebrows*
>>
>>2133339
>choose one.
You can't tell me what to do! Okay you can but I just don't have to listen.

Buy a bunk bed - since that's all we need right now - and 6 sets of hammocks in case we pick up more people or (god forbid) are forced to abandon our mech for a time. The hammocks would take almost negligible space when rolled up, so we can just leave them in the storage area until needed.

hammocks are needed

>>
>>2133596
who doesn't like nice things, im just saying that we know very little about this world and going for luxuries immediately when we get them seems a little unwise.

These are people with their own livelihoods to consider. Regardless of how much they want what we have, it would be irresponsible for us to cause excessive economic instability in their town simply because we want fancier stuff. True, the bed is only one thing, but if we're willing to bend on something so frivolous, I can't see us faring any better with other purchases.

Besides, we're not even sure if the luxury bed will offer us any practical benefit, but we know for a fact it's got downsides in lugging it around.

And I'm personally not keen on roleplaying a sociopath who will readily take random shit from people just because he can, like some video game protagonist who just marches into people's houses and steals everything he can - though I acknowledge this part is a more subjective matter.
>>
>>2133636
we are giving them the best what money cant buy
its not like we are making shit trades at all
>>
>>2133648
It would be like Jesus charging for miracles, except worse. They're technically priceless, but it's still irresponsible - and in our case Acarit's weed doesn't actually improve their livelihoods; it just gets them high.

Besides, if we took Acarit's words to heart, we really ought to be sharing it for free.
>>
>>2133656
which is y we are having a big as party and givng it to them
but that said they keep offering things
and im not talking about always useing itto buy things but we need things right now
next time itl be free
>>
>>2133677
We do need things right now, but I'm not sure how that translates to getting more than we need and buying a luxury bed over a more practical one.
>>
>>2133688
we will naver have to upgrade latter
>>
>>2133342
this, bunk beds for us and hilda, then the hammocks we can buy here essentially for free, roll them up and keep them in storage until we find someone to act as a repair crew (likely in a dwarven city doubt we'll find many metallurgy experts in an elven village)
