You wake up to a strange lap pillow...

I AM REBORN IN A HAREM ROMCOM, BUT I'M ONLY A MOB CHARACTER?! 4

Strange not because of the sensation. Not at all, indeed you find it pleasant. The thing that’s causing you discomfort, though, is the giver of said lap pillow.

Hikaru Ryou, your class rep, the girl who asked for your help in conquering her love, is sleeping in your bed while sitting upright, giving you a lap pillow.

“...Class rep…”

>Wake her up
>Don’t disturb her sleep...

This is bad. You don’t know how you got into this situation, but if this has happened by accident, this could be embarrassing for both parties involved.

So you reach out and tap her by the shoulder, and call her--

Nah I just want to call her by her actual name, like friends would.

since my write in didn't win
>>
>>2140907
“Oi, class rep,” You nudge her shoulder, trying to wake her up. She stirs, but still her eyes don’t open.

She runs a hand through your hair, as if trying to figure out what object is laying on her legs. Her fingers are thorough and gentle, and you find yourself blushing without meaning to.

“...Eiji…?”

You find her whispering half asleep.

>”...Yes?”

You chuckle as an old memory is brought up to mind.

“Sorry to disappoint, class rep.”

Finally, class rep opens her eyes, but only halfway.

“...What, it’s just Yamada…”
“Who else could it be? You’re in my house, you know.”
“Shut up. It’s way too early…”
“It’s past 1 in the afternoon…”

Well, at least she’s somewhat awake. Ask her--

“Class rep, what’s with the lap pillow anyway? Did you mistake me for someone else or something?”

You see her stretch the tips of her toes, but she still refuses to open her eyes.

“It’s your dad’s idea...honestly...when I got here, you were asleep, and he said something about lap pillows boosting healing or something stupid like that…”
“And you went along with him?”
“It’s just a lap pillow, so I don’t particularly care. You don’t like it, Yamada?”
“It’s not that I don’t. In fact it’s quite nice. It’s just that, you and Eiji and all…”

“Like I said, it’s just a lap pillow...geez, it’s not like I’m doing this for you as a special service or anything, idiot…”

You smile. What’s with the lifeless, tsundere-esque response?

You decide to make full use of the opportunity and settle down again on her lap. It’s not like you could lift yourself up away from her even if you wanted to. Your abdomen is no longer swelling, but movement is still a pain.

“By the way, class rep.”
“Yes?”

“What are you doing in my house? And in the middle of the afternoon as well. Shouldn’t you be in school?”

Silence. Then you see her open her eyes. She has a sour expression on her face.

She’s got the school uniform on, so that means she went to school, right?

“Class rep? Did something happen?”
She squirms underneath you, but in the end sighs in defeat.

“...I got suspended.”
“...What?”

Despite the shocking statement, she...looks irritated, but not as much as you thought she would be.

“How did you get suspended, class rep?”
“Isn’t it obvious? I got into a fight with Fumi.”
“With her?!” Isn’t class rep the one telling you to not get into trouble with Nakahara? “Why did you fight?”

She looks at you and giggles, while sticking her tongue out.
“Why do you think? It’s cause she beat up my protector, idiot.”

So, you can call it selfish if you want, but I do feel like I have to say it. I feel like there's been several situations so far in this Quest where a write-in got the majority votes option, and was either ignored or downplayed. I understand that there's some right ends that were just infeasible, but a few like this recent one seems to have been brushed over, and the spirit of the write-in was ignored.

I'm not going to go so far as to accuse railroading just yet, but I am concerned about how valid write-ins actually are when they don't seem to have any tangible effect on the plot. We have to walk on a branching, yet explicit path, then don't give us the option to walk off that path.

>>
>>2141087
Well, the most recent being >>2140972 where the general implication was an expression of unease and emotional uncomfort with the situation due to him knowing of her plans for Eiji. This was basically entirely ignored in favor of making him okay with the strange mixed messages she's giving off in this situation. As we stated before, our entire idea was to kind of distance ourselves from her giving all these mixed signals and laying things straight that we had no romantic interest in her *at this time*, and the situations that she keeps pulling us into blur the lines heavily- it's becoming unclear due to her actions whether she likes us or Eiji, and considering our own situation, we didn't want to risk issues.

There's more than this, but I'm on mobile and it takes awhile to look up, so if I'm late in presenting other examples, it may be on another ID.
>>
>>2141087
Not the same guy, but announcing when the voting is closed and you're starting to write would probably help a bit.

>Write in
>Are you hurt?

You reach over…
And flick her in the nose.

“Ow.”
“Who’s the idiot now, class rep? I wasn’t beat up. It was a fight, an actual fight.”
“Is that so? Then why is one of the combatants bed-ridden and unable to stand, while the other was still able to duel with me earlier today?”
“...Geh.”

“Still,” she smiles and leans back on the wall. “Maybe I won this time because you were able to weaken her yesterday. Though, I don’t know about that.” A devilish smile grows on Hikaru. “After all, she’s never won against me.”

Something tells you that the bad blood between the Class Rep and Nakahara runs deeper than you initially thought…

“Are you ok though, class rep? From my limited experience, she’s one tough opponent to fight.”
“That’s because you don’t know how she operates yet. She relies on dirty tactics to get the upper hand on you.”
“How did you beat her then?”
She shrugs. “Like I always do. If you move faster than her, then you always win.”

Interesting, you think. Is class rep a martial artist, perhaps?

“By the way, since we’re finally alone together…”
Hikaru puts her hand around your head, and--

“Let’s talk about Eiji.”

Lifts you off her lap.

>cont’d
>>
>>2141124
You are sitting, laying on the wall once again, while Hikaru is sitting on the swivel chair. Her arms are crossed. She looks like business.

“Yamada. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get closer to Eiji now that I’m suspended. Make full use of the days that I’m out to gather info and get closer to him. This is a rare opportunity.”

“Simple. We’re too close.”
“...You have to be a bit more specific than that, class rep.”

“Kobayashi and Rinko-chan and Rei will think something’s up if you suddenly start intruding into Eiji’s social circle and I’m more open to it than they are. If you’re already a part of his circle by the time my suspension is over, then I could pretend like there’s nothing I could’ve done to stop it.”

“So they have no idea we have had interactions like this?”
“As far as I know, no. Only Eiji seems to have paid attention.”

You nod. Your current mission, then, is to try to position yourself as some sort of friend character to the MC. That’s a bit beyond your [Mob] directive, but…

[Erasure].

Those words pop up in your mind once again. Is it a real thing, or a concept you made up in your mind? You don’t know.

So for now, you decide to do this mission--

>Confidently. Cement yourself as the friend with head held high.

You decide to become Eiji’s friend covertly.

You still don’t know if acting too out of character as a [Mob] will lead to this so called [Erasure], but the best option would be to play it safe. Do only the necessary contact, then keep on playing the mob character. This much should be fine, right?

“Alright, class rep. I won’t go out of my way and become someone like Nakamura-san’s friend or whatever, but I will try to do the things you want.”
She smiles and nods. “I appreciate it, Yamada.”

“However, Hikaru-san,” you face her, and make sure your tone is serious. “What is the point of doing all...this? You find out Nakamura-san’s taste, his interests, then...what? You transform yourself to become the ideal girl to him?”

Her face is grim, but she faces you determined. “Maybe. I don’t really know yet myself. But I know, as I am now, he won’t pick me above the others. Yeah, I think I could battle with Kobayashi’s beauty, but it comes to other points...like femininity, cuteness, fun memories together…”

If you confess to him right now, you would know his true feelings about you then. Sure, you might get rejected and lose your friends...but that’s the risk that you have to take.”

She doesn’t reply. It looks like she’s shutting you off. Nothing will get through her. You almost forgot that, despite her overall maturity and confidence, she is still just a teenage girl.

You’ll just have to watch over her for now.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

The hands of the alarm clock are the only noise that occupies the space between you. The atmosphere is awkward. It looks like it’s up to you to break the silence.

“I’m sorry if it looks like I’m sticking my nose into your business too much...but it’s just because the Hikaru Ryou I know is a wonderful person. And I want the best for her. It’s the truth.”

She stares at you for a moment, before breaking into a nice laughter.

“What the hell is that, Yamada? Dammit, you’re making Nee-san blush you know.”
You just grin. At least she’s smiling now.

“So,” with the atmosphere lighter than it was a moment ago, you decide to go to a different topic. “Have you had lunch yet, class rep?”
“I haven’t...oh right, neither have you, huh?”
“Don’t worry, we could ask dad to cook something up.”
“Ah, about that,” Hikaru waves your suggestion off. “Your dad’s out doing some errands. It’s just the two of us right now.”

“...Seriously, what is it with you girls and being ok alone with me…”
“‘Girls’?” Hikaru looks confused at first but shakes it off. “Well, whatever. I could cook something up for you.”

She stands up from her seat, and skips downwards to the kitchen.

So, the 1 of the top 2 beauties is cooking your lunch. You wonder how many men will kill you to be in your position right now.

“...Sorry, Yamada…”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I’ll pay for the damages…”
“I said don’t worry about it, class rep.”

After rushing downstairs due to the clatter of consecutive pots and pans falling to the floor, you discover the painful fact that class rep cannot cook at all.
You find the both of you hunched over Hikaru’s bentou, as you split the lunch box in between the two of you.

“No way is this enough for a boy like you, Yamada-kun…”
“I said it’s fine. If the food’s delicious, then it doesn’t matter how much there is.”

She glances up at you, but since you’re not really voicing any complaints, she continues eating.
“Hey, Yamada. Do you think Eiji would prefer a girl that could cook?”
“Well, I wouldn’t know...but boys generally like that kind of stuff. And it wouldn’t hurt to learn it right? It’s a nice life skill to have.”

You eat together once more in silence. Then,

“Well, I’m not a good a cook as my dad...but yeah, I can’t just refuse class rep asking for help, right?”

She nods. “Alright.” She then continues eating.

Well, that’s settled. You’ve decided to teach Hikaru how to cook.

-------

Since climbing back to your room is a pain, and there’s nothing to do there anyway, you decide to spend the rest of the time in the living room, watching television.
Hikaru, on the other hand, has donned an apron and tied her hair back. After cleaning up the mess in the kitchen, you somehow found her holding the vacuum and feather duster.

Another thing you learned about the class rep: she’s a clean freak.

“Class rep, please, I’ll feel bad…”
“I said don't worry about it! This is no problem at all,” she says while wiping down the coffee table. “Cleaning is a meditative thing for me. Not to mention, your house is pretty clean already.”
“That’s cause dad is essentially a freeter and a house husband…”

So in the end, you let her clean up the house a little. You feel a bit guilty but, well, if she says she likes it…

After a while, she plops down on the couch beside you.
“Whoo, that was quite the exercise.”
“Thank you for your hard work.”
“No problem.”

She watches TV with you for a bit. Then she turns to look at you.

“Hey, Yamada.”
“Mm?”

Although thinking about it, I've just come to a disturbing possibility.

We're her 'backup'. She's so paranoid that she won't get him that she's forming a nascient attraction to us for when he 'inevitably' rejects her advances- she'll have someone else whom she's already mentally primed to like.

I don't even think she's doing it consciously, but I DO think it needs to be pointed out and that we aren't going to be someone's romantic safety net.

>"Nope. Because nothing happened. In fact, nothing's ever happened, and I never wanted anything TO happen, but things keep getting weird. So I'm gonna come clean right now.

>Eiji, Class Rep likes you. Like, a ton. Like, a TON. She wants to go out with you really badly, but never worked up the nerve to ask.

>Hanazawa, she's like this because she wanted my help in getting Eiji to like her, and she just came to say hi because I agreed and we were going to work some stuff out. She's dressed like she is because I agreed to teach her how to cook, and she offered to clean a bit as thanks. I know you get mad, but don't.

>Class Rep, I think you're better than you are, but I can't keep ruining my own life for your sake; not when something like this happened. Everything else, I'm sorry, is up to you. I'm gonna head out for a half-hour or so, and I hope everyone has come to terms with everything by the time I get back.

What makes you think it will definitely end that way? They just saw us staring at each other. Telling him that "actually, class rep really likes you" sounds really weird at this time.
If we're going to tell someone about this whole thing it's gonna be Hanazawa.
>>
>>2141640
I only remember anons mentioning us getting erased, little bro talked about the world ending if Eiji achieves happiness but nothing beyond that. Getting pulled into his circle is still probably bad for other reasons.

"Achieves happiness" is super vague too.

Honestly, I'm a fan of getting Eiji hooked up with a girl ASAP because it's too early for the show to end. If that happens, the show (hopefully) changes into a long term relationship rom-com or a story about him eventually finding the right girl after dating around (maby even past college). Both of these are more sustainable than "we all die if he starts to think with his dick".

>>
>>2141712
The problem is, she's not gonna say anything- she's proven that all things considered, she's got self-esteem issues and doesn't really do well with personal conversation regarding her crush. She's fine when it's someone she's neutral or otherwise, but Eiji's presence basically causes her to lose all faith in her own words. I wouldn't be surprised if she either clammed up or otherwise dug herself into a deeper hole because she's too tsundere/self-loathing to bother correcting him- she'll just inwardly think 'of course this is how it would go, I'm so useless'.

Because that's been her whole issue. In anime it's called being a tsundere, but IRL it's called having a self-esteem issue.

What if the MC knows on some level that we're messing with the plot, he's basically god here who knows to what he's actually aware of. The denseness could just be him consciously playing his part in his fantasy. So he shows up just as we really start messing his harem up with the girl we were developing a relationship with in order to sink or ass and drive us away.

Nakamura Eiji and Hanzawa Mayumi stands at the entrance way of the living room.

They find you and Hikaru Ryou together in the living room.

You didn’t do anything.

Neither did she.

Yet both of you feel guilty. You are gritting your teeth. Hikaru is shaking.

So, you ask yourself...why?

Why do you even feel guilty at all?

When nothing happened?

Why does she shake? Why do you grit your teeth?

When nothing(?) happened?

The answer is obvious, isn’t it?

...

But now is not the time for answers.

Now is the time for action.

“Um, did I catch you two in a bad time?”

Nakamura Eiji asks this while scratching the back of his head. Hanazawa says nothing. She looks at you, expression neutral. Does that make things better, or worse?

There’s only one thing you could do right now…

>>2141623

Sorry, Hikaru, you say to yourself. This wasn’t part of the plan. But this is for her own good too.

“Nakamura-san...please don’t be confused, nothing is happening...or has happened. It’s impossible. Because I’m going to come clean right now.

“Nakamura, the truth is, Hikaru-san…”

The class rep goes wide eyed. She recognizes what you’re going to do.

“Yamada-kun, no--!”

“The truth is that class rep li--”

“WAHAHA! I didn’t know that Ken-chan has so many friends! It’s great to have you all here!”

From the entrance hallway, your father appears, putting a hand on Nakamura and Hanazawa.

“My I didn’t know my son is such a famous guy, ohoho~...er, did I interrupt something?”
Your dad looks at the four of you, probably sensing the intense atmosphere.

“Um, not really, dad...so, as I was saying…”
“Hora! Ken-chan, you can’t expect to keep your friends just standing there and not serve anything! Where is your manners, boy?!”
“E-Er…”
“Come!” He grabs you by the shoulder and pulls you into the kitchen. “You guys just sit down for a moment while me and Ken-chan whip something up.”

You leave the trio behind in the living room, stunned.

What is your idiotic father thinking…?

You sit down on the dining table, while your dad watches the tea brewing on the kettle.

“...Honestly, Ken-chan, what do you think you’re doing?”

This is the first time your dad has spoken since he dragged you here. You wait for him to continue.

“You have to be more sensitive to other’s feelings, Ken-chan.”
“What do you mean, dad?”
“I had a feeling you were to blurt out something you shouldn’t out of desperation. To be honest, I think you could do better than that.”

“...Hm.”
...He’s right. You were this close to doing something you didn’t think through.

This universe you are in is one of Balance.
[Mob Characters] serve one specific purpose or even just something like filling the background. Alpha and Beta mobs.
[Side Characters] aid the [Main Character] in his purpose.

Balance. A universe made for one specific thing: the [Happiness] of the MC.

And you were -this- close to wrecking it.

“But, dad...it’s just that the whole situation is getting ridiculous.”

And you decide to tell him the whole story. Your favor to the class rep, and everything that has happened earlier before he showed up.

“So,” dad says frowning. “Since you couldn’t handle *their* situation anymore, you went and decided that it’s *your* job to say it for her?”
You stay silent.
“Honestly, Ken-chan...again, you have to be more understanding of girls. This types of things are a big thing for them, especially at your age. You need to be more delicate.”

You nod. You’re acting way too rash. Didn’t you decide, when you [Reawakened], to do things rationally?

“So, dad. What do you think I should do?”
“Hmm...well, if I have a lot of cooking, I just divide it into smaller tasks...so why don’t you make your scope smaller as well? Talk to them one at a time.”

Alright. So, who do you talk to first?

>Hikaru. You -cannot- leave her and Eiji alone with her current state.
>Hanazawa. She might be misunderstanding, better to clear it up ASAP.
>Nakamura. Explain the whole situation with ‘delicacy’
>>
Going to just rant a little bit.

I get her fear. I really do. She's very scared of rejection by this boy who buy All rights treats her like a decent human being, whereas everyone else is usually putting her on a pedestal. I understand that she appreciates and wants that freshness of interaction. But the way things are looking, there are only four major outcomes in the cards for her.

Option one, she comes clean and tells him flat out she likes him and request a date, and he rejects her. It's going to hurt like a mother for a long time no doubt, but she still in high school. There's no way that he's the only person who will ever treat her like a normal human being, and I have no doubt that she'll be able to find someone else in due time. She's too nice and too caring.

Option 2, she gets up and tells him, and he accepts her offer of going out. Well, everything's roses. Even if her friends dislike her for it, they're not really friends if they can't be supportive of two of their own friends going out and finding love. That's something that she has to know going into this at work go.

Option 3, she stays on this Merry-Go-Round, it never ends, and she whines up stalling for so long that one of her other friends beats her to the punch. Well, she just lost out really hard because she couldn't muster up the courage to say anything. All that effort was wasted, and no she's gotten so dug into him that it's going to be a lot rougher emotionally on her to distance herself. And with her low self-esteem, that is a dangerous proposition in and of itself.

Option for, she puts on the mask successfully, he expresses interest, and they become a thing. Congratulations, except the fact that now she's got to wear that mask every single day there a thing. She's putting on a never-ending play where she has to dance to the beat that she thinks he likes, and should she ever stray from that, then her whole thing comes Crashing Down. At least, quite potentially. And that would be an even worse result than option 3.

Basically there are only two results to this that are at any level emotionally healthy for her. And they both involve her putting on her big girl panties and telling him how she feels directly.

The rest just doesn't make any sense.

He grins and nods.
Your dad walks back to the living room. You hear his big voice through the doorway.

“So, who of you guys is Hanazawa?”

“That’s me, sir.”

“Ooh, excellent! Sorry to be a bother, but could you help me and Ken-chan with the tea? He’s still hurt and all, so…”

You hear the rustling of socks as they get closer to the kitchen.

“Could you just help out Ken-chan for a bit? I just need to grab something from the, er, the garage! Thanks for your help!”

“Regarding the thing from earlier…”
“What about it?”
“I think you caught me and the class rep in a weird time, and I just want to clear things up and tell you the truth.”
“The truth?” She tilts her head, confused. “I just thought you and the class rep were chatting in the couch. Did something else happen?”

...Huh?

“But she was wearing an apron and stuff…”
“I assumed that she was helping your dad clean the house?”
“And the TV was on mute...and we were staring at each other…”
“That’s because you were chatting and the television is loud, right?”
“But--”

Hanazawa once again reaches out her hand and smooths out the bangs of your hair.
“I think...I’ve come to accept that Yamada-kun just gets along with the class rep really well. Either that or he's a playboy," she giggles.

You feel comforted with Hanazawa’s touch. You sigh. You didn’t realize how heavy it was weighing in your mind all this time.

“Yamada-kun, we shouldn’t be leaving them alone then…!”
That’s right. You need to come up with a solution and fast.
Hikaru’s a ticking time bomb, and Nakamura’s dense as ever. That’s a recipe for disaster.

“But believe me, Hikaru. Everything that I’ve done, and will do from now on...all of them are for one thing. To see you happy. That’s the only thing I want for you, and god knows that.”

You feel her shake against your chest. You pat her head. But what you thought was sobbing, was actually giggling from the class rep.

“What the hell is that, Yamada...you sound really cool right now…”
You laugh along with her while stroking her hair. It’s smooth.

She removes herself from you. You bring your hand away as well.
“But...if what you say is true...then I don’t understand. Why would you go to such lengths, Yamada?”

The first thought was because it’s for the accomplishment of the mission.
But no.
It’s beyond that now.

“It’s because I’m Hikaru’s protector.”

She beams at you. At last, it seems the doubt has cleared. You’ve gained her trust and forgiveness.

She brings up her pinkie.
“And swear to me that everything you’ve said is true.”

You smile, and tie your finger around hers.

“This is all for Ryou’s happiness.”

“Thank goodness...thank you, Ken…”

You smile.
But it’s melancholic.

You catch yourself muttering.

If the girls are actually 'real' girls and have a sense of self and self-determination, then they shouldn't absolutely have to be in love with this guy, and it doesn't make sense that his happiness would be dependent on all of the girls behaving like this.

... maybe we should become solid friends with him, and see if we can't direct him to simply ask one character out at a time. We pull a The Bachelor on him.
>>
>>2142982
So is our attraction to her mandated? That's unfortunate. We're going to have to play very rigid in order to not cause that to progress much further until such a time comes where she's open.
>>
>>2142997
I think we need to take the weekend to directly test what our brother has said to see if he way lying in anyway. Also in my opinion if the world ending means everyone dies than I don't think Eiji should achieve happiness
>>
>>2143005
Honestly, me neither. But we've passed that fork in the road already, and we're locked on this path, as far as I can tell.
>>
>>2142997
Honestly I don't trust our 'Brother' at all and suspect him being the reason these situations keep happening.
>>
>>2143007
I don't think we're locked in, especially if it turns out our brother was lying in which case it makes no sense for us to be unable to change our decision. I also like the idea of supplanting Eiji as the MC and then intentionally denying ourselves happiness for the good of the world

You head to the kitchen together with Ryou.

“And then it was like…”
“Oooh, is that so?...”

And arrive to the sight of Nakamura Eiji and Hanazawa having a happy chat.
Your abdomen is kind of hurting again.

“Yo.” It was Ryou who broke the conversation they had going on.
“Oh, Ryou! That was a pretty long conversation you had with Yamada-san, huh?”
He stands up and approaches her.

“...Hey," Nakamura Eiji's face turns serious. "Ryou are you alright now?"
“Eh? What do you mean?”
“Well, awhile ago, when we were alone together, you were so quiet and all, I got worried...But you look fine now. I’m glad.”

“N-N-N-N-No-one asked for your concern, idiot!” And with that, Eiji receives a fist to the jaw.

“Guoh!”
“And it was all just a misunderstanding, Eiji, you idiot!”
“I-I got it, Ryou…”
“Also, what’s with you entering homes without knocking anyways?! That’s why misunderstandings like this keeps happening!”
“Wait, class rep, don’t uwaaAAAAAAH--!”

Well, it looks like they’re returning back to their normal roles.

Hanazawa, though…
She’s sipping on her tea, not looking at your direction. No, she’s deliberately ignoring you.

But it makes sense. Your mother probably flubbed the details of your absence today when calling the school. The only ones who should be aware is your parents and Nakahara, and Ryou who is already vigilant about her.

I think it's just general 4chan autism keeping people from reading social situations. it was obvious that we were leading Hikaru on in the last thread but no one understood and in this thread people decided to tell Eiji about class rep's crush when that was an obvious dick move (although it wasn't a real vote)

>>
>>2143147
I mean that's fine as well but I think that if we're going to waifu Hikaru than we need to be smart about it instead of setting up drama. I think if we want Hikaru the best plan is to figure out what effects Eiji's mc powers have on her and then try to negate them if possible while also making it as clear to Hanazawa as possible that we're just friends
>>
>>2143113
“Well, at least Nakahara isn’t bothering you anymore, right?”

She’s really mad. But you’re still curious about one thing.
“Hanazawa...er, could I just ask one last thing then?”
“...”
“Why did Nakamura come and visit me too?”
“...He heard about the injury from class rep. He was going to bring you today’s homework. We met your dad along the way, and he let us in.”
“Is that so...then, er, why were you with him?”

The sun outside is going down fast, and before you know it, nighttime has arrived. Your dad offers your friends dinner, but they declined his offer to get home sooner.

Nakamura Eiji is walking class rep back home, since he knows where she lives. Despite her expression being neutral, you notice that Ryou’s feet are never wholly touching the ground.

“Get well soon, Yamada-san,” he says, while shaking your hand. “And, also…”

He leans in closer and whispers. “Thanks for comforting Ryou. She really looked upset earlier. I think it must be because of her getting suspended and all...I mean, it’s not a new thing, but it could still be upsetting, you know?”

“...Get a clue, man.”
“Hm? Did you say something, Yamada-san?”
“Not at all,” you give your broadest grin. “Have a safe trip, guys!”

They both bow.
“Then, Yamada-san…”
“Ken-kun.”

You nod, and watch them as they both head off. Under the lights of the streetlamp, you could see class rep happily chatting together with Nakamura Eiji. Like a scene ripped straight off an anime.

“Ken-kun.”

Your heart skips a beat. It’s the same words, yet the effect is so different. It’s a different kind of spine tingling than when the class rep says it.
You look beside you, and only notice now that Hanazawa has sidled up beside you.

“[BAD END]”

The ominous words that your mother has mentioned last night. Did she intend for you to hear it, or was it an accident let slip?

Does she know more about this world than she lets off? Or does she mean something else when saying those words?

Kei says making the MC achieve [Happiness] is the goal of this universe.
Your mother doesn’t want you associating with your friends, because of [BAD END].

Who should you believe? Are they both telling the truth?
Or telling a lie?

...Isn’t the answer simple?
There’s only one thing you could rely on.
Your own knowledge and investigation.
You could only rely on your own conclusions in the end.
And what is your mind telling you right now?

You glance at the girl with the meat buns.
“? Ken-kun?”

That’s right. You promised Ryou’s happiness. That much, you know, is true.

“Nothing. Got any tips, class rep?”

She thinks for a bit before turning to you, serious.

“One important one actually. Do not associate with the other girls.”
“Alright.”

You walk off to the school and wave goodbye to Ryou. By the foot of the hill, you see a guy waving at you to come over. Nakamura Eiji.

You approach him, preparing yourself. Taking Ryou’s advise seriously.
But did you take it seriously enough?

Cause you’ve yet to discover that there might be worse things than death or [Erasure]...

(TO BE CONT’D)
>>
>>2143402
We really need to talk to our mom about bad end, also her being aware means that kei is at least partially lying since he said the only people aware were us and him
>>
This entire scenario is entirely illogical. Even by the bounds of its own rules, it seems like the dos and do nots conflict with each other if you do anything that's not face value.

Sure, but we were already working towards making Eiji happy and we're back on track now so I don't think we're too much of a threat now, really we need to investigate on our own
>>
>>2143407
More like the deeper we dig, the more confusing it gets.
>>
>>2143444
We haven't been digging, stuff is just being revealed to us
>>
>>2143444
We need to be more careful. I feel like this is going to get darker and probably going to involve existential crises.
>>
>>2143452
We need to actually investigate the rules of the setting instead of just trusting what we're told, we're definitely going to get blindsided if we don't
>>
So yeah, it's clear that Bro was lying on at least one aspect. Which means other things he said can now be called into question.

So. I think that it's clear that we need to figure some things out for certain.

The problems we have are as follows:

-The world was designed for one person's [happiness]. I think that can no longer be refuted in any way, shape, or form. The females around him have LIMITED self-determination, but I think at this point it's clear that there's something preventing their total free will- what, I don't know.

-The world ends once that happiness is achieved, but the problem is that how to accomplish that is vague and nebulous. It seems as though the general idea is to get him matched up with one or multiple of his harem, but, again, when you think about it too long (like, over 5 seconds) it doesn't make logical sense- how are you SO sure that his 'happiness' will persist? It's highly unlikely it will- unless, of course, that this 'happiness' isn't actually happiness, and is more a temporarily feeling of elation- that is to say, the universe will consider his happiness achieved when he and one of the girls decides to get together, and will immediately end after that; (or at least within the next few days, the 'honeymoon' period) so that said feeling doesn't go away, or is at risk of going away. Alternately, his 'happiness' is only achievable with the full harem, since he's too nice a guy to want to leave anyone out or something like that.

-We now know that our suggestions, especially when it comes to write-ins, are to be expected to be open to interpretation and modification, with the goal of keeping Ken acting within certain parameters. It's also clear that, by the words our mother said, there is some level of 'mechanics play' at work here, and that should things not go a certain way, there might be particularly unforeseen consequences. Which means we're formally disallowed from simply blowing the entire situation open and letting the pieces fall where they may- this is again involving that nebulous 'happiness', which is basically trying to force us to do this song and dance and has noticeably stopped us from 'cutting the knot' in regards to situations lacking communication. This also lends credence to the idea that we can't simply convince the girls to contest the issue 'fairly'- we're being pushed and shoved towards being a player in this stupid social game of manipulation. This, I feel, is an aspect we should continue to battle against- but to do so, we'll need to be VERY SPECIFIC in our write-ins and goals.

-We seem to be having, nonetheless, some odd effect on girls ourselves, to the point of causing odd, repeated issues with several females that cross our path. How we can use this is...up for debate, but it seems to be to a point where we have our own selection of females to concern ourselves with.

We need to solve each of these issues if we want to have a chance at saving the world AND giving people happiness.
>>
>>2143455
Agreed but our only leads are our family. Our dad's been the nicest but I don't know how much he know. Our mom obviously knows about the setting but she doesn't want to help and our brother is the Meta guy but I'm not sure if he wants to rage against the MC, Destroy the world or what.
>>
>>2143458
We need more information. Even though class rep said not to do it, I think we should get to know all the girls while trying to figure out the mechanics of the world. MAYBE we can figure out a way to either find them their own happiness or make them compromise for a Harem. That last part I'm not so sure because I still don't know what kind of person the MC is. On one hand he acts like a thick headed, kind bumbling idiot but that just makes me suspicious about him even more. In the VERY unlikely case that the MC truly just wants his harem to be happy and that's what would make him happy, we should help each girl through whatever problem their facing. Because you just KNOW that each will have some hidden depth personal shit that either is the cause or isn't involved in their cliche at all.

TOO MANY UNKNOWNS. NOBODY TO TRUST. FUCKING HELL.
>>
>>2143458
All we really know is that people including us are being manipulated by something whether it's the author, mc, the world itself or something else , that the world mimics anime, and that Eiji seems like the mc, everything that our brother told us including the world collapsing if Eiji achieves happiness could be a lie
>>
>>2143447
>>2143455
Yeah, that's true. But it's still getting more and more confusing.
But I do wonder what we could do to get concrete evidence on the setting and how it works.

>>2143452
I honestly hope we don't end up harming Hanazawa because a [Mob] like us shouldn't be meddling with and mixing with the [Main Cast]. Maybe that's why mom talked about the [BAD END]

>>2143458
Yeah, the definition of Eiji's Happiness is still vague as fuck.
>>
>>2143473
We take what kei claims to be true and then try and prove it wrong or try and find out if anything has violated what he's already said. We can also investigate suspicious people, keiji, hanazawa, our mom, ryou, kei, and keiji's side character friend, are all suspicious
>>
>>2143470
I agree, but the trick would be to do it clandestinely- and to do that, I feel like the best way is actually relatively simple, if possible.
Ryou said to not associate with the girls.

She never said anything about associating with the girls' FRIENDS. We'll have to put our ear to the ground, but if we can root out who each of the girls are friends with, we can approach THOSE girls, and find out information THAT way. We could also use this to investigate Eiji's standing on things a bit more, as well, and possibly manipulate things subtly (say, inviting a friend of girl A out to a thing, which prevents girl A from doing something with said friend, causing her to miss Eiji, or something along those lines.
>>
>>2143458
Pretty good analysis, but one thing I'd like to add is that the girls seem to have an odd effect on US as well, what with the muttering of "Lucky guy" under our breath concerning Hikaru and the spine-tingly-ness of Hanazawa. It's all pretty fucky, but I think we're being pretty influenced as well.

I think any sort of romance or anything even slightly romantic right now, with any girl, should be set at a hard NO. Maybe we can dabble into romance later, and wage our waifu wars then, but I really think it's a bad idea to get all involved into anything romantic now, and that we should try to nope ourselves out of those situations.
>>
Should we try to become friends with Nakahara? I don't think she's a harem member, and having the delinquent leader owe you opens up opportunity for spies to get us info.
>>
>>2143519
I think at this point, I'm just paranoid of girls in general, and how they can fuck up our mind, so I'd prefer to become friends with some male character. There has to be a male student other than Eiji and Glasses-kun, right? We should interact with one of them in an actual meaningful manner.

Who wouldn't wanna make a friend out of one of the top badasses in the school?

Plus, as many others have expounded, building up a sense of self-worth and genuine compassion in the girl is a wonderful character arc.
>>
>>2143509
I can understand that, and kinda support it, but my concern is, again, the universal manipulation factor. There's been a couple of write-ins that had no romantic overtones whatsoever that were modified to in fact have romantic overtones inserted. Meaning we'd have to be very careful what we said or voted on so that it was very clear that we wouldn't be able to be misinterpreted. Even then, remember, situations won't be written as voted on in general; we should expect some situations to be canceled out or shifted so that the context changes- I think we'll have to be incredibly wary and possibly brute force some issues if that happens. Problem is, I don't think it'd be feasible with most anons.
>>
>>2143530
I think we should be careful until we know what the fuck is going on. I think [Bad End] is the harem ending but I can't be certain. I also think the barest mention of anything romantic will set something off
>>
>>2143533
I think it's that in the context of anime the write ins were obviously romantic but we didn't see it that way ( or people that were gunning for ryou voted for it to waifu her )

But Anon, all the other male characters in high school are probably all still [Mob] characters. They lead uninteresting little lives in this uninteresting little town compared to the only two--well, three now--high school boys worth their salt in this entire series. What we'll probably get if we try interacting with one of these brainelss dolts is a lot of blank stares and stock "uwah?" sounds.

If we wanna make male friends, we should try building some friendship with some eccentric shopkeep or a greasemonkey at the bike shop or the machine shop owner that is also an amateur blacksmith in his off-time
>>
>>2143533
While I do enjoy the teasing I'll be in if it means our survival. I feel like our past life of dying alone makes us weak to romantic situations too, I mean, Eiji has a whole world crafted towards his happiness, I understand why we might have felt jealous.
I wonder if Eiji is aware of him being MC.
>>
>>2143538
No, yeah, that's definitely part of it. In a harem anime context all those lines could be seen as romantic, which only makes me more certain we'll have to word ourselves carefully.

>>2143540
Yeah, I mean, I won't deny I have my own waifus in this thing, but all things considered, I'm willing to wait until we have more information before actively going after ANYONE.

Hanazawa's cool, and a solid second choice, but if it were up to me I'd wanna know more about Sleepy Waifu.

A [BAD END] in such a thing likely involves people dying.
We need to look for reports of schoolchildren dying violent deaths around the time our mom was in high school.

Since I'm always asleep when this quest is up I'm going to just put up ideas for the next thread.

1. We shouldn't join Eiji's club, because the other girls WILL try to rope us into some kind of shenanigans, and it'll turn into a clusterfuck.
2. A good lead in, I think, would be ask Eiji why he's so close with Ryou if she hits him constantly. This way we can find out how he sees her.
3. We need to ask Dad about how he and Mom got together, to try and see what could have reminded Mom about a [BAD END]
4. Do NOT interact with Nakahara in any way, because it WILL lead to more romcom shenanigans.
5. Do not try to create our own harem, avoid creating it accidentally. Yanderes exist.

This is just an idea but, how about during school hours we investigate Eiji just like rep class wants (If we have to interact with the others girls...thats fine) but after school we should try to learn more about this world, maybe use the computer and see how diferent is this worlds or just explore our town. Also if we have the oportunity we should befriend Nakahara and try to make her a good person
>>
>>2143854
Yes to the first bit, but no to the second. Not out of any particular dislike or repulsion, but any interaction with females that's anything but professional ( and even that is risky) will result in the universe trying to push us towards someone in an effort to keep things under its control and out of Eiji's business.

No romance, or anything that could be even remotely mistaken for romance like casual female interaction, until we figure out the rules of the world. Then we can all fight over who to date.
>>
>>2143856
Would Hanazawa be safe to interact with still? She's only tangentially related to the main cast, so shouldn't she be safe?

We should really ask our mom for more exact criteria on what could trigger a [BAD END].
>>
>>2143661
I only like hanazawa, nakahara is just a fucking retarded turdmonkey.
>>
>>2143864
Well I do like her, at this point I'm even wary of her. I think we could get away with a few things that we wouldn't be able to otherwise, but again, we have to be very very selective. She seems to want to date us already, but she also seems to realize that we're not ready yet. She just called dibs when we are. So we just have to make sure we continue to remind her that we're not.

>>
>>2143967
It depends on wether or not they "fight" their programming and actually explain shit to Us instead of just throwing words at us like we're a halfassed speech to text program. Which leads to the question of if the're truly aware of what's going on instead of being metaphorical machines and if they are aware that leaves the question of what are THEY getting out of this reality even when We "awakened" outside the threat of [Erasure] or worse than it. In short, We gotta start slamming the metaphorical(or literal, this is an anime after all) sledgehammer into the machine until someone actually explains shit in a way that's not shady as fuck or tries to kill us off via a visit from Truck-Kun.
