In a time of global crisis, an elite international task force known as Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. The heroes of Overwatch kept peace for a generation, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Now world conflict is rising again. Overwatch may be gone…but the world still needs heroes.

You are Bandit, an adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. A few days ago, you encountered the reformed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-own-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Now Tracer and you are taking the Aurora OSS-007 VTOL aircraft across Europe, "getting the band back together" as Tracer phrases it. You stopped by Zurich, Switzerland, and recruited Mercy by reminding her that she can do the most good for the world on the battlefield.

Now the Aurora is en route to Eichenwalde, Germany, to search for a man described as the heart of Overwatch ...

It's not far from Switzerland to the Black Forest mountains, and the Aurora makes the journey easily. Tracer pilots the craft in low over the forest, and lands in a grassy field on the outskirts of the small town known as Eichenwalde.

"Here we are," says Tracer, punching in the aircraft's power-down sequence. "Athena said Reinhardt would be somewhere around here. And I have a feeling I know just where he'll be."

The town is oddly silent as you approach through the field. You can hear birds singing in the nearby pine trees, the distant rumble of road traffic. "Do people actually live here?" you ask Tracer.

"Not anymore," she says. "This was the site of a great battle, back in the Crisis. A lot of these battlegrounds were never cleaned up properly."

Your boot knocks into something with a metallic clang. You look down at what you'd thought was an oddly-shaped hill, and realize it's actually a disabled omnic soldier, overgrown with moss, grass, and flowers.

You stop and look around, realizing just how many similar oddly-shaped hills you can see in the field around you. "All these Omnics ... what happened? They didn't talk about this one in the history books."

"That was before my time," says Tracer. "And I never got the whole story out of Reinhardt. It was something he didn't like to talk about. I know some of his unit, the Crusaders, went up against a whole army of Bastion-model omnics. The Crusaders won, but ... they paid the price."

The two of you enter the town. It's a quaint, charming German village, marred by overgrowth, broken Omnic soldiers, and the scars of war. You take a detour around a blast crater as you approach a two-story building with a sign reading "Brauerei Mittagskrug".

As you get near the door, you can hear voices coming from inside. A man and a woman, arguing. It escalates to shouting. Something crashes inside.

You opt for the casual approach, pushing open the door and entering the brewery.

Inside is a rustic German tavern, and the scene of an argument. A young woman in a ponytail and pink tank top is shouting fiercly up at a huge, muscular, white-haired man with a scar over his eye, who seems to be taking it in with patience. You aren't sure at first, since he's usually shown wearing his distinctive Crusader armor. But you think that the old man is--

"Reinhardt!" says Tracer. "Am I glad to see you!"

"What is zis?" says the old man. "Lena? Can it really be you? Hah hah!" He stomps forward, knocking a heavy wooden chair out his way like a toy. He snatches up Tracer in his arms and gives her a giant bear hug.

"Woah now--urrk!!" Tracer's face starts to turn red. With a blur of blue energy and a whirring sound, she recalls out of Reinhardt's arms back to your side. "Hey now, remember you've got to watch it with those hugs, big guy!"

"Eh heh, sorry my dear. I was caught up in ze excitement. I haven't seen you in many years. Who is zis strapping young lad?" he asks, looking you up and down.

"This here is Bandit," says Tracer. "He's been helpin' me out."

"It's an honor to meet you," you say, extending your hand. It's immediately crushed in Reinhardt's vice-like grip.

"An honor to meet you as well, Bandit! Any friend of Tracer's is a friend of mine. Please, sit," he says, waving to the tables. "We haven't yet found a working tap, but I will keep looking. Ah, the beer of Brauerei Mittagskrug was once famous in these parts ..."

"Aren't you forgetting something?" asks the woman. "I'm Brigitte, by the way. Nice to meet you."

"Likewise," you say.

"Brigitte is my armorer," says Reinhardt. "She keeps the Crusader armor patched up, holding it together for one more battle. And she does the same for me as well."

"You don't make it easy, old man," observes Brigitte. "But I do what I can."

"You are a master of your craft, Brigitte, as I've said many times," says Reinhardt. "Now, my friends. What brings you to Eichenwald?"

"Looking for you, actually," you say.

"For me?" asks Reinhardt. "Is there glory to be won?"

Brigitte says, "You're from Overwatch, right, Tracer? I recognize you from the vids. don't suppose you tracked us down out here just to catch up with an old friend?"

Tracer admits, "We did have something else in mind."

Brigitte says, "You realize he's old, right? He'll be sixty-two soon. And the Crusader armor will break down permanently any day now. It's all I can do to keep it in working order, and who knows how long that will last? Anyway," she adds, turning away. "He can't help you, because he's already got a damn fool's errand he's set his mind on. No talking him out of it when he gets like this."

Reinhardt's face has turned dark. "The omnics," he growls. "I must crush zem. Brigitte, where is my armor?"

"It's almost finished," she says. "I took a break to try and convince you once last time to back down from this, even though I knew it was futile. And then the Wonder Twins here showed up. So whenever they're done here, you can start your quest or whatever."

Trade tech notes with Brigitte and take a look at the armor. Maybe an outside perspective will help shed some light on the matter.

Admittedly, it might just be metal fatigue and outdated components. In which case, building a new one from scratch would be the best bet and the Watchpoint might have the facilities to do so.

"Wait, "quest"?" you say. "What's got him all riled up? Maybe we can help."

"Doctor Junkenstein," says Reinhardt. "He has returned! Tonight is ze night of his revenge!!"

"Er ..." you say. "Doctor Junkenstein?"

"It's a story he used to tell at Halloween," Tracer says to you, disbelief on her face. "Something about a mad scientist, and that big castle up there. I heard old Rein was going a little nutters, but I didn't think ..."

"It is real!" Reinhardt shouts, slamming a gigantic fist on the table. "I saw ze Bastion unit come back from ze dead!"

Brigitte is rubbing her forehead. "He claims that one of the overgrown Bastions on the edge of town came to life and attacked him. That he had to smash in its central CPU with a rock. Barely escaped with his life."

"It happened," insists Reinhardt. "We are all in danger. I must go to ze castle at once. Brigitte, please finish my armor. When it is ready, I will go forth."

Brigitte sighs, heads to the back of the room. You see some kind of portable forge, and next to it, the Crusader armor of legend. She wasn't lying when she said it was barely holding together. Metal fatigue, jury-rigged or outdated components ... it could be the only way to fix it would be to build a new one from scratch. But who has the skills these days to build a Crusader suit?

Reinhardt is staring darkly at a hologram suspended over a table. A battle plan. You realize this tavern must be where the Crusaders had their headquarters for the defense against the Omnics, all those years ago.

Reinhardt's story seems pretty far-fetched. He is a legendary warrior, but that wouldn't stop his mind starting to fade as he aged. On the other hand, maybe the best way to get him on the team is to help him see this through, whatever happens.

You say to him ...

"We'll go with you."

Reinhardt blinks, looks around as though remembering where -- or when -- he is. "Ja. Das ist gut." He looks down at you, smiling. His one good eye seems clear and focused. "Bandit, yes? I will be glad to have you fight beside me."

You look over at Tracer. "You're okay with this?"

She shrugs, offers you a smile. "Not sure, really. But if it's what me old pal Reinhardt wants, then let's do it already. Just like old times, eh Rein?"

"Ahhh yes," the big man says, smiling as he remembers. "Those were glorious days. Do you remember in Paris, when it was just you and me against those hooligans? It is good you are here, Lena. I shall be glad of your company."

"All right, then let's ..." Tracer trails off. "Wait. Do you guys hear something?"

You listen carefully. You do hear something. A metallic clanking sound, then a sort of spinning noise--

"Get down, my friends!" Reinhardt shouts. Everyone dives for cover--

A hail of bullets cuts through the tavern, right where you were standing. The wooden beams of the walls splinter into pieces. Windows shatter. Kegs and tankards are blasted apart. The thundering noise of a machine gun on automatic fire comes from outside the tavern's front door.

You and Tracer are in cover near each other. You meet her eyes. She looks pissed. She takes out her pistols. "Ready, mate?"

What do you do?

"Let's do this," you say to Tracer. "You go left. I'll go right."

"Roger," she says. "Ready when you are."

The gunfire stops for a moment. Whatever it is might be reloading. "Go!" you shout. You make a dash to the right side of the room. Out of the corner of your eye you see a blue blur as Tracer blinks to the left.

The brewery has a second floor overlook with an exit on the right wall. There are stairs, but who has time for that? You trigger your graviton boosters and anime-jump through the air, landing on the overlook, and running outside.

You look down on a small street leading into the square in front of the brewery. In the square is exactly what you had hoped not to see: one of the overgrown Bastion units, dark red under the moss. It's active, deployed in sentry mode, and apparently fully functional. Its central glows an ominous red. It finishes reloading, and begins to pour another round of fire into the tavern. Shell casings clatter to the cobblestones around it.

Across from you is another second-story rooftop, with a great angle of fire. You could grav-jump over there, if you just had some kind of distraction --

"Yoo-hoo!" Tracer calls out to the Bastion from the opposite side of the square. "Looking for me?"

The Bastion's massive gun swivels in her direction and opens up, but she blinks out of the line of fire. Seizing the opportunity, you leap to the second rooftop, and unload a full magazine from high ground directly into the Bastion. It's blasted to pieces before it can track up to you. It falls apart. The red light in its eye dims and goes out.

(Continued)
>>
You hop off the rooftop and approach the omnic carefully, watching for any signs of life. It appears completely dead. You give it a kick. Nothing. "What the hell was that?"

Tracer walks up to the other side of the blasted robot. She looks pale. "This is not good," she says, shaking her head. "Not good at all. Bandit, do you realize what this could mean?"

>It means we kicked its ass!

"You're right," you say. "This could just be the start of something. Maybe someone trying to bring about some old tensions."

"That's the last thing we need for Omnic rights," says Tracer. "But wot could have reactivated it? Why now? These bots have been sitting here for decades."

"Maybe Talon?" you guess. "They work for anti-Omnic zealots a lot, right? They seem like the sort of sleazeballs who might pull something like this. For now, let's stay focused. Can't have these things getting the drop on us."

"Right. Got to deal with what's in front of us."

"What should we do now?" you ask her.

The front doors to the tavern slam open. "We shall prove ourselves in glorious combat!" Reinhardt announces, fully geared in his full Crusader armor. He barely fits through the doors to join you in the square. "You see? The Omnics are coming back. Dr. Junkenstein's terrible experiments have brought them back from the dead. We detected an energy surge when we arrived. There!" He points to the tall castle that stands over the town. "That's how I knew. The castle is his lair. And we must put an end to his madness, once and for all!"

You look up at the castle. "Yikes. This might be a long slog."

"Come, my friends!" Reinhardt strides off, his gigantic Rocket Hammer in hand. "There's glory to be won!" No time for planning with this guy. You hustle after him.

Reinhardt walks uphill to the right, past a sign marked Gutebackeri. The street then turns to the left, passing under a stone archway. Two more Bastion units are here. One is on top of the archway, already in sentry mode. Its machine gun swivels to face Reinhardt and opens fire with the sound of thunder.

Reinhardt's shield springs to life, a huge glowing blue rectangle. It crackles with energy where the bullets are striking it. "Come, my friends!" He shouts to you and Tracer. "I will be your shield!"

The second Bastion is below it at street level. It stays in recon mode and runs to your right with clattering flootsteps, trying to find an angle past Reinhardt's shield as it fires its submachine gun.

You stay behind Reinhardt's shield, trying not to pee yourself as the barrage of machine gun bullets strikes the barrier right in front of you. "Reinhardt!" you shout at him over the din of bullets. "Get me close to the recon one!"

"I'll get the sentry!" calls out Tracer. She blinks away, and you lose track of her.

"Understood!" The knight advances steadily into the teeth of the storm. Bullets slam continuously into the barrier. It starts to develop cracks. He remains unfazed. "Is that the best you can do?!" he demands.

You wait for the opportunity, and at the right moment, you dart out from behind the energy shield toward the recon Bastion. With a snap of your wrist you transform your weapon into sword form, and unleash a combination of fast, powerful strikes. The plasma sheath of your blade leaves a colored trail through the air as it weaves back and forth. The recon Bastion is cut to shreds.

You look up at the sentry Bastion on the stone arch. It's reloading, ready to unload another two hundred bullets. Reinhardt's energy shield is looking bad, you don't think it can handle another one of those--

Tracer blinks onto the stone arch from the left. Those pistols of hers unload a full magazine in exactly a second, and that's what she does to the Bastion at point-blank range, shredding it with blue smart bullets. It swivels to target her, but she recalls out of its view.

Reinhardt seizes the moment, swinging his mighty Rocket Hammer to fire the signature projectile of the Cruaders, the Flame Strike. The flame pierces through the Bastion, frying its circuits. It's still functioning, just barely -- the machine gun begins to turn back, to target Reinhardt again -- but Tracer blinks back onto the stone arch and delivers another blast from her pistols. The Bastion collapses into pieces, some of them falling to the ground below the arch.

You take a moment to catch your breath, but there's no rest for Reinhardt. "Bring me another!" he shouts, striding forward under the arch. Shouldn't the sixty-year-old man be struggling to keep up with you, not the other way around? You hurry after him ...

Reinhardt leads the way past the arch and up to a mighty stone wall, then through a small doorway next to the huge wooden gate. Out the doorway, you see a squat tower in front of you, with the cobblestone road leading off to the left. And in the tower--

"More Bastions up top!" you say. One is all the way on top of the tower, the other is on some kind of wooden platform in front of a second-story window. They both see you, and begin their transformation to sentry mode.

"Get behind me!" shouts Reinhardt, activating his shield, recharged to full strength. The sentry Bastions start to pour bullets onto him. The shield quickly starts cracking. Reinhardt grunts. "I can't hold against this!"

"I'm on it," you tell him, hoping it's true.

So, anyone else up for reverse engineering a suit of armor after studying the Crusader? Not a massive suit of power armor, but something that enhances our toughness and agility while extending our graviton boots to a full body effect.
>>
>>981674
I was thinking we engineer the shield tek to make our sword be made of it, Imagine how thin and sharp it could be while we can also power it to shield from bullets.

Personally I think our set up should become

M1/M2: Shoot/Slash
Passive: Moon Boot Mobility
Shift: Maybe some kind of Burst of speed (escape/ambush ability)
E: Our Mag field shield
Q: Our Field launches all the damage and energy it's absorbed in a self centred AoE
>>
>>981674
That would be interesting, though if we were looking for lighter power armour we would do better with the Egyptian flight armour. Even more so since it contains flight capabilities to enhance the anti-grav we already have.
>>
>>981674

Maybe--honestly, if we're stationed up at Gibraltar, I was wondering if we could take a spare set of the old Overwatch armor out of the armory. Even better if it's something based off the OG Strike Team, I'd wager.

I wanted to go for something that reflected our Character. He's a gearhead, not a scientist and he's cobbled together most of his gear based on the Technology of others. With some proper backing and equipment, as well as expert help, he could create some Hero worthy gear.

Also, I don't want to change his fighting style too much. Super agility + parkour is pretty cool and making all of his movement graviton enhanced has potential for serious badassery. Using a set of light Overwatch armor would make good sense.
>>
Well this is actually sorta interesting and it's getting my art-boner up. Keep up the good work Ravenking.

There are many that would disagree with your assessment. Still, we would need OP's confirmation either way and it is a very long term goal but generally this is how I see it.

Waifu's are generally better than Husbando's, mostly for quest sustainability (more straight anons than gay anons).

We will be ignoring certain pieces of cannon, purely because they are rather out of the blue or underdeveloped. For example the tracer sexuality reveal will probably be ignored.

We are assuming that every named character was, can and will be date-able. Ignoring the case of people we are enemies of or other such events get in the way. E,g widowmaker.

Also I won't go into great detail but Lucio is clearly the best homosexual option, ignoring genji. I have seen too many cute things involving him in frog overalls and pyjamas to not want.

You dash up the stairs and turn left, into the second floor of the tower. As this happens, Tracer blinks forward, through the front door, and again up a set of stairs that lead to the same room you're in. One of the Bastions is straight ahead, focusing its fire on Reinhardt's shield. You and Tracer simultaneously deliver a burst from your weapons, blasting the Bastion to pieces. You catch each others' eyes and grin at each other.

Reinhardt is still being focused by the Bastion on the tower. His energy shield shatters. Bullets clang as they strike his armor. "Ach!" you hear him cry out as one of the shots penetrates. He's forced to retreat back behind the castle wall.

You and Tracer step outside onto the wooden platform, looking up at the top of the tower. "I got this one," you say to her, reloading your weapon.

Getting up to that tower would be difficult for someone who didn't have some kind of vertical mobility. Like for example, graviton actuators in their boots that let them jump super-high. With two quick leaps skyward, you're on top of the tower behind the second Bastion unit.

As you run forward, you empty your magazine into the back of the Bastion, then with a swing your arm, transform your weapon into blade mode. The Omnic's machine gun turns around to face you, but just as it erupts into automatic fire, you dodge nimbly to the side, and the bullets hit nothing but air. You strike the Bastion with your three-slash combination and turn it into scrap.

You hop back down to the street, where Tracer and Reinhardt have regrouped. "Piece of cake," you say.

"Nice one," says Tracer. "Reinhardt, you okay, mate?"

"It's nothing," he grunts, although you spot a couple places where the bullets penetrated his armor. He seems to notice your concern. "I'll have time to bleed in the morning. Let us keep moving, my friends," he says as he continues down the street, his armor clanking with each step.

You fall into step with Tracer, a few paces behind him, and look at her. "Is he really okay?" you ask her.

She shrugs. "What can we even do about it at this point? When the big man's going someplace, you can't stop him. All you can do is stay behind the shield, and try your best to back him up."

The two of you catch up with Reinhardt. "Did I tell you about Eichenwalde?" he asks you, as the three of you pass under a stone arch and onto a bridge. "This is the home town of my master, Balderich. He was born here! And ... he died here." His voice growns mournful. "We fought a terrible battle here. Many Crusaders lost their lives."

Mei is getting on in years as well--only thing keeping her looking so young was cryo-stasis--which, depending on how Ravenking wants to move the story, she might still be in.

And D.va--Hana is about 19, isn't she? Do we really wanna glomb on to late-teenager, early young adult problems? Yes, she is probably the closest in age to us--second to Tracer, probably.

Honestly, I'm just holding out hope that our paths will cross with a certain hacker.
>>

That is unlikely, considering that she falls in with talon in universe and would therefore be an enemy.

Still, if we encounter her before then or can somehow change her mind as to working for them. Then we can consider waifuing the shit out of her.

"Tell me about Balderich," you say to Reinhardt as you cross the bridge. You think about an old joke involving a giant crab, but now's maybe not the best time for that. Instead, you ask, "What sort of man was he?"

Reinhardt says, "He was a great man. Brave. A strong leader, and a powerful warrior. He always led from the front of battle, desiring that he himself should be the first to take any blow meant for his comrades. We Crusaders gladly followed him into battle many times." The knight looks up at the castle tower in front of you. "When he was gone, I ... I tried to follow his example. What would Balderich do, I asked myself? I tried to be a knight worthy of his legacy. And so, when the Crusaders were no more and only I remained, I joined Overwatch, so I might place myself in the vanguard again. Now ..." You hear frustration creeping into his voice. "I don't know how I could face him now."

Tracer, "Rein, old pal, the reason we're here--"

"Damn," you mutter, spying something strange ahead. "Sorry to interrupt, Tracer, but I think we've got a problem."

Ahead of you lies another stone bridge, this one leading to the mighty castle gate. Four collapsed, overgrown Bastions lie near the castle gate. They don't seem to be active, so you're puzzled at signs of movements. Then you realize the movement comes from something else entirely.

Small black drones are hovering over the derelict Bastions, mechanical under-limbs working away busily with tools and cutters and circuit welders --

"Those drones," you say. "They're repairing the Bastions. That's how they reactivated ..."

"But who's controlling the drones?" asks Tracer.

"Good question," you say. The Bastion's eyes flicker from dark to a sinister red glow. Their machinery clatters as they start to activate. "A question for later. Right now, we've got other problems."

You're on a bridge, which makes flanking difficult. There's a small wooden platform to your right, but getting there involves a gravity leap over the abyss -- possible, even likely to succeed, but your gut lurches as you contemplate plummeting to your death. You could also charge straight down the middle, taking the initiative while the Bastions are still activating. Or you could fall back to the start of the bridge and the shelter of a stone wall to your left, while you plan your next move.

Instead of any of that, you get one of the most needlessly reckless ideas you've had in a long time. And you go for it.

Ramping your grav boots up to full power, you leap into the air, and come down right on top of one of the repair drones. It wobbles crazily, its thrusters firing wildly as it attempts to stay upright with a human's weight on top of it. You keep your balance, barely, but enough to ready your weapon in sword form. As the Bastion below you unfolds and stands up into Recon mode, you slash it with your plasma blade. You dodge a burst of fire from its submachine gun, almost falling off the repair drone as you do, then attack again. Just as you strike the killing blow, though, it lands a hefty sock to your jaw with its robotic fist. The Bastion falls to pieces. You're fine, except for a crack in your helmet, a ringing sound in your ear, and a jaw that feels like a small train just ran into it.

HP: 170/200

The other Bastions are starting to transform into Sentry mode. Your gut drops as three machine guns level themselves at you. This really was a reckless plan. But when you do something reckless, that's when it's good to have friends.

You hear a distinctive engine sound, one you remember from the holo-vids. Reinhardt comes charging into the fray on his rocket boosters, pinning one of the Bastions, and crushing it into smithereens on the wall. He finishes it off with a mighty swing from his giant hammer. "Haha! Is that all?!"

On your other side, a blue blur streaks onto the battlefield. Tracer tosses a white discus onto a third Bastion. "Here ya go!" The disc pulses blue, explodes, shatters the Omnic.

That still leaves one. You're about to deal with it when the repair drone finally wrestles itself free of you, and flees into the air like a scurrying rat. You land on your butt on the stones. The last remaining Bastion's machine gun is pointed straight at you.

What do you do? Choose one and roll a d10:

You try to think of some kind of cool one-liner, but nothing comes to mind. Damn. Maybe next time.

Tracer says, "Wish we got a chance to look at those repair drones. I tried disabling one, but it had some kinda self-destruct mechanism. Disintegrated."

"We'll figure that out later," you say. "Reinhardt. You said there was an energy surge coming from inside this castle, right?"

"Correct," he says. "Whatever's causing all this, it must be here."

Tracer says, "Wot do you suppose it is? I mean, it's not really Dr. Junkenstein from your Halloween stories ..." She peers up at the castle gate, confused. "Is it?"

"Zere's only one way to find out," he says. "Follow me." He stomps off into a side entrance, a passageway through the stone beside the main gate.

Good thing this passage is here, you think as you follow him. Otherwise you would've needed something to get through that huge main gate, like a battering ram or something.

Inside the castle, a vast hallway flanked by railed balconies leads into the interior. The three of you walk along a rich, red carpet in the center of the hall. Dust lies thick on the railings, cobwebs crowd the corners. It's quiet. Too quiet, you think.

Turning the corner, you find a throne room, lit by angular beams of sunlight from high windows. Slumped in the throne is a once-grand suit of armor, adorned with golden wings; now, like the shattered omnics, a home to moss and weeds.

"Balderich," says Reinhardt, his voice breaking. "My lord. He fought to the last, to break the Omnic offensive. Only when the final enemy was shattered would he lay down his weapon. And then ..." He looks down at his armor-clad hands, tightens them into fists. "If only I had been there. Perhaps I could have saved him."

>>
You decide to let Tracer handle the conversation. You'd like to encourage Reinhardt, but you only just met the guy. Instead, while she does her best to console him, you look around the room.

You start out searching for clues on whatever might be controlling those repair bots. But then your relic-hunter sense kicks in, and you look at that big suit of armor sitting on the throne. That suit of advanced armor, perhaps parts that might be scavenged.

It's maybe a little gauche -- the guy probably deserves a burial -- but really, wouldn't a warrior like that want his armor to protect people after his death? It's perfectly respectful. You'll just have to convince Reinhardt of that, you think, as you move towards the suit of armor.

You ascend the steps to the throne, stepping into the sunlight. Motes of dust dance in the sunbeams. You gaze upon the armor, the gold engravings still lustrous after all these years. You peer into the depths of the helmet's shadowed visor. Somewhere in there is the corpse of the legendary warrior Balderich von Adler ...

The armor shifts slightly. Dust rises into the air.

Okay. That must be a coincidence. No problem.

Something glows in one of the helmet's dark eye sockets. A single eye, a deep red crimson.

"Uh ... guys?" you say. You start to back away slowly. "Guys?!"

The armor clanks. The grass around its hands begins to rip and tear. Its arms begin to move.
It sits up.

"Guys, something's happening--!"

Tracer blinks to your side. "Bandit, what's ooohhhh my god! Bloody hell! Are you seeing this, mate?"

"I'm seeing it but not believing it--"

Balderich? -- Balderich's armor? -- slowly stands up from the throne.

(Continued)
>>
"W-what do we do?" asks Tracer.

"I don't know," you say. "I didn't get to this section in the Overwatch training manual."

Reinhardt walks past you, slowly approaching the figure at the throne. "Balderich? M-my Lord? Is that really you?"

You've got a bad feeling about this. "Reinhardt," you say. "I'd think you'd better be careful--"

The armor flexes its fingers. It reaches out to the side, grasps the massive spiked hammer next to it in its right hand.

Sometimes you hate being right. "Look out!" you shout, trying to push Reinhardt out of the way. But of course you can't push a man in a seven-foot tall suit of armor. All you can do is get out of the way ...

Soundtrack: Overwatch OST - Eichenwalde https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibQ-1KijZE8

Balderich's hammer comes crashing down into Reinhardt's shoulder. He staggers under the blow, his knees buckling. "My lord! Why are you doing this--" He takes another blow to the stomach, doubles over, falls to one knee. "Please, I beg of you--"

"Reinhardt!" you shout at him. "Whatever that thing is, it's not your lord! You have to defend yourself!"

"Hrrraaargh!" The old warrior's fighting instincts have kicked in. He blocks the third blow, gets to his feet, and brings up his rocket hammer for an overhead strike, only to be blocked in turn. The two Crusaders swing their huge weapons in mighty blows, crashing into each other with resounding clangs. Their armor dents and cracks under the devastating blows. The ground shakes under the impact of their feet. Truly a battle of titans.

Tracer has her pistols out. She fires a magazine into the overgrown suit of armor, to little effect. She shakes one of the pistols angrily. "Grr! Bloody things are no good against that armor. And my pulse bomb is still recharging." She looks at you. "Bandit. You've got to do something!"

Part of you wants to let Reinhardt fight alone, to leave him to an honorable duel of giants. A story for the ages, just like he would want. But his life is more important. There is still more to his tale.

"You've still got things to do, Reinhardt," you say, and ready your plasma sword. "I won't let you fight alone. Whatever the past wants with you, it's got to go through me first."

The two Crusaders have their hammers locked against each other, straining against each other. The stones under their feet crack under the pressure. Balderich gains the upper hand, shoves Reinhardt's hammer aside, and steps forward--

And that's when you strike him in the back with your plasma blade. No honorable call-outs for a rogue like you. The legendary Crusader armor is tough, but it can't stand up to a strike combination, and your attack leaves him damaged.

Oddly silent, the giant turns to you and swings its hammer, but you back-step just out of its range, feeling a heavy wind as it whistles past you. You dart back in and one, two, three slashes, and you cut through the chestplate to deal what should be a serious wound.

If that was a person in there. that would have taken its heart. They would at least be wounded, staggered back. This thing just keeps coming. You dodge back out of range of another hammer blow, nailing that action hero three-point landing you saw on a holo-vid.

Tracer does what she can, peppering the thing with shots from her pistols. The damage is heavily blunted by the armor, but it's at least distracting. Balderich swings his hammer to shoot a Fire Strike at her. "Woah!" She barely dodges it with a blink. A second blink brings her to your side, and she takes a moment to catch her breath. "Is this a bloody zombie?" she asks you.

"One way to find out," you say.

"Reinhardt," you call out to the veteran. "This has to be done. We'll do it together."

"I understand," he says. His rocket hammer's engine begins to glow red. "I am ready."

He steps forward, and shouts with all his strength, slams the hammer in the ground. "Hammer DOWN!" The floor erupts in shattered stone. Pieces of the armor go flying from the concussive force. What's left standing is knocked off its feet onto the broken ground. You and Reinhardt forward at the same time from opposite sides, both shouting incoherently, and strike down with your weapons, each dealing a pulverizing final blow.

Jolts of electricity run through the battered and broken armor. It twitches. The red light in its eye socket dims, then goes out. The energy stops. The armor lies still.

"Mein gott," says Reinhardt. He drops his hammer, sinks to his knees. "What have I done?"

"Whatever this was," you say. "It wasn't your old friend. Okay?" At least, that's what you hope.

You look down at what's left of Balderich's Crusader armor. A human in there couldn't have survived all that. Could he?

White and blue would be neat.

The sword presents some problems for the model. If it's a tangible blade, we could have the sheath strapped across our back--otherwise if it's a beam saber we could keep the thing strapped to our belts while the pistol is out if the two are separate and not one and the same.

"Tracer," you say. "Can you call Winston? Maybe a scientist will know what the hell is going on."

"Roger," she says. "One moment, folks."

"I'm, er ... I'm going to take off the helmet," you say. Steeling yourself for the unknown, you kneel down beside the ruined armor, undo the gorget fasteners, and slowly lift the helmet to reveal ...

"Empty," you say, hardly believing it. Could it really be that one of the greatest Crusader knights of the Omnic Wars ... was an Omnic?

You look up at Reinhardt. "Could it really--"

"He was human," sighs Reinhardt. He's still on his knees beside the armor. "I saw him get in and out of his armor with my own eyes. He was not secretly an Omnic. At least, not back then. This? I don't know what this is."

"It must be that someone come along later," you say. "Took his body out of the armor, gave it a proper burial. Left the armor there on the throne. Maybe as a monument to the defense of the town. Or maybe just because they couldn't move the damn thing."

"It was empty all the time," muses Reinhardt. "My master's armor, being used as a puppet. But who was pulling the strings?"

Tracer approaches, holding a vid-projector that's displaying a midair two-way camera. Winston is on screen. "I may be able to assist you with that question," he says. "Hello, Reinhardt. Good to see you, although I wish it were under better circumstances."

"Winston," says Reinhardt. "Do you know what happened here? What did this to my master's armor? Could it really be one of -- them?"

Winston clears his throat, takes off his glasses and begins to polish them. "There are several distinct possibilities which could account for--"

"Do not hide behind theories, monkey! Give me an answer! They forced me to-- hrrngh" Reinhardt tries to struggle to his feet, fails, sinks back. "Was it the God-mind? Do you know? What are you hiding?"

"Reinhardt, please," says Tracer. "There's no way that could happen. They're all locked up! If he knew anything, Winston would tell us."

Winston puts his glasses back on, displeased. "I'm not a monkey," he says. "I'm a scientist. I understand you're upset, Reinhardt. But let's try to be logical about this."

>"God-mind"? What is that?

"If you do know anything about what happened here, Winston, you'd better tell us now," you say.

"I don't "know" anything," he says. "There are several possibilities. The most likely is that Talon launched some kind of hacking assault. They're known to have a skilled hacker in their employ. Perhaps they wanted the armor for themselves, or they learned of your location and attacked you. Our friend Reinhardt has simply jumped to the worst case scenario."

"Which is?"

"The God-Minds," says Reinhardt darkly. "Our greatest enemy. They should have all been destroyed."

Winston says, "The so-called "God Programs" were advanced artificial intelligences, back when research into AI was legal. Some of them caused a great deal of trouble during the Omnic Crisis. There are theories that these programs were responsible for the Crisis in the first place--"

"And you've kept one alive!" shouts Reinhardt, pointing his finger at the screen. "I know you have your pet Athena there with you. How do you know that she isn't responsible for this?"

"I keep a strict monitoring protocol engaged on all of Athena's activites," says Winston, getting irritated. "And besides, she's different. You know that. She wants nothing more than to help us."

Yikes. This looks like an old argument heating up again. Maybe you'd better cut this short.

"We can discuss this more," you say. "but later. Right now, we have to get Reinhardt out of here, and get him some medical care."

Tracer says, "Can you walk, big guy?"

Reinhardt slowly gets to his feet. "Yes. I must make it back to the brewery myself. No passing out for this old man. I doubt the two of you could carry me and my armor all the way back, heh heh ..."

The last Crusader walks slowly out of the castle, with Tracer and you at his side.

>>
>>988924
That is an excellent life goal. To literally follow one of the worlds greatest snipers around, effectively just pushing their barrel (since it is made of metal) to the side.

Actually I meant being able to "rip" weapons out of enemy hands but now that I think about it, that would be a little too broken since if we have such refined control over it we could also "invert" the effect and push all metal away from us.

Not to mention the possibility of crushing someone like Reinhardt inside of their armour.

Magnets, literally fucking magic if we can get better control over them.

I regret pointing this out to anon's. I may have just broken this quest and everything in it.

The only possibility for defeating us would be Hanzo using a wooden bow, assuming we didn't shoot him.

Or someone with a polymer or other non-metallic weapon.
>>
>>989060
Not gonna lie, I thought Symmetra's stuff was all ceramic and polymers and hard light.
>>
>>989060
wouldn't we also have to get close enough to have any effect on metals?
>>
>>989214
Most of it is but at the end of the day, you do need to have a thing to project that hard light from and most non-metals won't handle high temperatures while also acting as a conductor. Which I imagine would be quite needed for constant projection.

>>989231
Magnets work across the entire universe. The only reason that magnets aren't the prime fundamental force (which is gravity, something else we also manipulate...), is because for every "positive" charge there is an equivalently sized negative.

Thus we would always have an effect but I struggle to remember the accurate representation and rules for magnetism beyond that.
>>
>>989275
I forgot to mention that both of these charges effects the universe but technically cancel out on the universal scale for all purposes. Except ours I think, forgive me this is based off of half remembered knowledge from physics in school...
>>
>>989275
There are some variants of ceramic that might work.

More importantly, she'd need to use a magnetic metal in order for us to affect it wouldn't she? If she uses an alloy of tungsten, her projectors wouldn't be in danger of burning out.
>>
>>989308
True but then her projectors would weigh a shit ton. Assuming it has any major components containing it.

Still though, it is entirely possible that she has figured out a way around this but we will need to see how OP handles it.
>>
>>989325
Not gonna lie, Symmetra of all people being our counter just tickles me pink.
>>
>>989602
I think Ana could jerryrig up a ceramic and polymer rifle to fuck us up, but Symmetra and Ana are solid counters if this is the case.
>>
>>989612
Sombra might also be a hard counter later on, provided she doesn't get too close. Or we don't have a Faraday Cage up.

Something like this for Mask+hood?
>>
>>990927
If we'rw going Swirly Face, yeah.

However, our normal mask should have armored Eyeslits.
>>
>>
>>991178
Top right for the head is pretty awesom. I support that on top of the Red Hood thing we're trying.

Where'd you find it?
>>
>>991193
The top right is Ana's mask in one of the comics. Guess she uses it when in hiding
>>
>>991178
I can dig that. Do we have any sort of emblem or anything like that though? Shit's important
>>
>>991285
Literally should be a tank destroyer, just like us
>>
>>991285
>>991707
I can doodle up some Emblems and ideas if we can get solid ones up.

I'd personally go for a compass crossed by a single shovel or something.
>>
>>991178
Should add cobra commander retaliation to that pic.
>>990986
Don't like the Eyeslits idea.
>>
>>992260
I'd like a sort of visor that opens and closes depending on the lighting, in the shape of a DaftPunk helmet. So it sort of acts like an Astronaut helmet, but automated.
>>
>>992280
If the visor is just for the lighting we could have it dim instead so it protects our eyes, maybe expand it to act like a TV so we can make emotes like in >>986707
>>
>>992280
maybe have the helmet polarize instead of open up.
>>
>>992280
>>992342
Is this for showing our face? Cause I'd rather remain a mystery behind the mask kind of character.
>>
>>992398
it's more so we don't go blind when shit gets bright. plus it'd also double as a welding helmet in a pinch.

Got FULTON'd by Big Boss, then Kaz kicked me off of Mother Base because of "reasons".

Last bit was supposed to say "I don't recall much of the /tg/ drawfags migrating over here to /qst/ after that whole fiasco with the mods."

Nazimod was an issue in the making, but I don't go to /tg/ for the spess(ial needs) marines or the dakka, I go there for the "Soulsborne" system ideas and brainstorming threads that help DM/GMs get their minds going.

And so, I came here for the best part of what /tg/ was to me, the story.

Now, I have a baseline helmet up, and I just want input.
>>
>>992712
The short version: No quests allowed on the /tg/ board and mods will swing the hammer down if they catch someone starting a thread on /tg/.

The longer version: A vocal minority on /tg/ were demanding that the questers GTFO and go to /qst/ since /qst/ was created for the purpose of hosting Quests. Unfortunately while /qst/ is great for most quests, a lot of QMs and players preferred remaining fully anonymous without the whole ID and namefaggotry that runs rampant every so often. Also killed a lot of the more popular Quests like "Crusader Quest" by causing the QMs to either wrap their games up quickly by skipping a lot of the side-questing material and skipping straight to the penultimate final chapter or some QMs just outright said "Screw this, I'm out" and killed their Quests like a baby dying from Sudden Death Syndrome. Also /tg/ quests tend to walk into the smut and gore side of things and /qst/ threads haven't been back to the realism side of questing with the whole "blue board" enforcement on the mods part. In the aforementioned Crusader Quest, you had the MC boning a lot of the ladies in the Levant with a bit of waifuing going on but nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find a QM on /qst/ who'd be willing to write a bit of smut at the risk of getting a temporary ban. Some QMs have gotten around it by linking to a Google Doc with the smut written there but that's really up to the QM's own discretion which requires a fair bit of effort on the QM's own part.
>>
>>992752
A Canadian maple leaf or at least a fair bit of red and gold splattered about the faceplate.
>>
>>992797
Is there any known symbol of Canada in the OverwatchVerse?
>>
>>992797
Please no leaf.
>>
>>992797
>>992814

I can add in the leaf as part of an insignia if anons want.
>>
>>992792
"Smutbins" or "lewdbins" are the known alternative to quest smut, since it's legal if it's not in the thread itself. If the quest has smut in the thread itself, then it's in trouble.
>>
>>992819
I do not want the leaf, Rather something like >>992056 compass shovel or some other symbol that ties to discovery and adventure.
Or maybe something related to our gravity/magnetic theme.
>>
>>992819
we already took moonboots, might as well grab the leaf.
>>
>>992839
Maybe a compass design with planets on the rim?
>>
>>992792
why the fuck is this a blue-board anyways. It doesn't help anything.
>>
>>992839
>>992847
I just googled gravity symbol and there are quite some good ones, i suggest the circle with arrows connected and pointing to it.
>>
>>992839
>>992847
I'm just not extremely confidant in my drawing abilities to get overly complex.

>>992849
Because the mod listened to the loudest voice, which contained complaints about smutquests. So the mod made it a blue(balls) board.
>>
>>992870
I swear to god the mods are fucking retarded some time. Bare minimum service done and arbitrary changes that don't fucking help anything. But hey, they do it for free.
>>
>>992884

I understand that. It's just frustrating that the vocal minority decides to bitch at the janitors and mods until they set up stupid ass rules that don't actually improve anything. The fact that that method works is the worst part of it to me. I've seen it happen of just about every board I've browsed somewhat frequently and it gets tiring.
>>
>>992752
Save multiple versions of that pic so you can use it for several designs, if need be.

Why not just magnets? Gravity is just a form of magnetism as it is.

Bear with me, I haven't done physics in 12 years and I'm an oldfag as it is.

Magnetic Moment = pm
>>
>>993162
Those are Greek letters symbolizing magnetism (p) and the moment of magnetism is the subscript (m).
>>
>>993137
I like the top right but can I add my 2 cents in

flair out the tips of the oval to make it look like its spinning if that makes sense
>>
>>993162
I'm thinking that Gravity is a kinetic force, while Magnetism deals with more electron/neutron stuff

So we might move from magnetism to anti-gravity later on, so I'm leaving more room for more ideas. I suppose I'm just expecting us to specialize.
>>
>>993184
Sure, I just had these as simple shapes so we could get a general direction.
I tried drawing the top middle one with the lines rotated and it ended up looking like a Swastika, and I figured "Let's not step on that landmine."
>>
>>993206
>and I figured "Let's not step on that landmine."
smart
>>
>>993191
I figured Gravity/Magnetism was a theme the MC/Bandit has been doing since a lot of the fancy moves we've done involved gravity defying jumps and let's face it we have a gun-blade thing that uses magnetic clips to change forms (unless it uses some sort of technosorcery involving a micro-fabrication unit that flash-creates ammunition and the blade itself).

Because there still seems to be a bit of discourse on how we want our headgear to look, I'm gonna dump some neat designs that I found while drifting about on the Tumblr. All were drawn by the same artist and are basically redesigns of some of the existing characters' outfits, but it's definitely worth a look.

First off, Soldier 76

Personally, I'm not a fan of the featureless whole face mask--it's robotic, alien, and to be completely honest, I'm not sure it works with the sort of aesthetic ew're trying to create for our character. It's a very sci-fi thing, and I feel we're more grounded than that--after all, one of the traits of our character is that his gear is kinda cobbled together. To put in the game's terms, it's less Symmetra and Pharah and something closer to Soldier 76 or the Junkers.

I'm more a fan of the 3/4 or 1/2 face mask--gives us a touch more humanity and makes us appear less like some robot. I know the whole featureless mask thing is supposed to help with our schtick with noone knowing our gender, but a half mask covering only the lower jaw structure should still do the job. Pair it with a hood and you very nicely have a guerilla look--combat chic, even.
>>
>>996614
I will try

>>996757
I've been toying with the idea of a tringular HUD-visor and I'll try drawing that too later on.
>>
>>996757
Honestly, I want to just keep these Different masks and ideas being thrown around as Different costumes.
>>
>>996876
Well looks like we're designing all the different skins
>>
>>996876
I suppose we could have different outfits depending on themission parameters.
Urban camo for city missions
Tan camo for desert missions
etc.
>>
Another idea for potential insperation would be the masks from gears of war, worn by the carmine brothers or the mask of the "star-lord" from guardians of the galaxy since they have a pretty unique but feasible look.
>>
>>996757
I disagree.
>>
>>996562

Curse you Ravenking!
I had planned at some point to make an Overwatch themed quest but you beat me to it...

Then again, after last quest's less than stellar end, I'm not sure I'm willing to put the effort to run another one on /qst/.

Rant aside, I've found the quest enjoyable so far and I hope you'll keep this up; it's always great to see new content in this wasteland of a board.
>>
>>997530
Don't let this quest stop you, there's a couple Pokémon quests going on at the same time so it's not like you can't make another OW quest.
>>
>>997530
>>999489
After TotemistQuest droppedoff themap and predicatable anime quests flooded in, I half gave up on /tg/ and with the split, I nearly stopped altogether.
