Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. The last thread was quite some time ago, and so it might be wise to refresh your memory. You currently reside within the magical core of your robotic companion Fulvia, having agreed to assist her by adding to and enhancing her present knowledge of combat both magical and mundane. This in addition to removing limits placed upon her by her creator which prevent her from disobeying orders or violating a set of rules.

More generally you lie upon the threshold of the Elaudian jungle, and have spent the last several days preparing to venture into that ancient land in search of an artifact of unknown description. You do this on behalf of three skeletal figures to whom you owe a favor, known simply as the Triarchs. They have asked you to activate whatever device might lie within these ruins as repayment for saving you from a life of servitude to an ancient dragon, which you disturbed from its several thousand year slumber deep within the Mines of Longia.

It is currently the 6th of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

You stare up at the great twisting oak which forms the basis of Fulvia's mind, trying to plot a course from where you stand at its base up to its highest boughs. You'll need to be careful climbing up, because if you should crush one of the many flowers draped from the tree's branches you may well destroy some intrinsic part of Fulvia's self. Each one seems to represent some idea or realization, and so each one must be carefully preserved.

Carefully, you grab hold of a groove in one of the lowest branches and brace your foot within another. Hauling yourself up, you hold yourself still while searching for another safe handhold. Progress is slow as you drag yourself ever higher up the trunk of the tree, as you're forced to stop frequently and sidle around to approach from a different angle wherever you encounter a collection of blooms.

Your arms are burning within the first ten minutes of your ascent, and by the half hour mark you long for nothing save solid ground beneath your feet. However, you numb the pain in your limbs via the liberal application of your vys and it's not but a few minutes later that you begin to notice the branches thinning around you. The trunk has been growing steadily narrower and now you could probably wrap your arms around it completely should you wish. The ending is in sight, but your goal lies at the very peak of the tallest branch. A flower which represents the limits placed upon Fulvia by her creator.

Throughout the journey your mind has been assaulted by a thousand sensations, thoughts, memories, and emotions. Having so recently mastered Nature magic you've yet to fully grasp the fine art of blocking out the world around you. Your previous understanding found your thoughts often invaded unwillingly by those of others, but that paled in comparison to the barrage you now face. Every blade of grass, patch of moss, and blossoming vine seems eager to the point of mania to feel the brush of your thoughts. Fortunately the higher you climb the less distracted you are, those bits of memory and knowledge stored here older and less readily accessed.

Finally you reach the top of the great oak and find the flower there waiting for you, if you can really call it a flower. It's not of any sort you'd call familiar. Fashioned from steel, the petals are covered in a strange sort of glass or metal cut into hexagonal patterns and tiled across each individual flap. At the center lies an antenna of sorts, from which vys flows with such rapidity that it manifest physically as a thick white fog. The base of the flower forms the top of the tree, a thick steel pipe running down into the trunk adorned with all manner of wires and tubes.

She'd told you to 'cut away the flower', simple enough you suppose. Having attained complete mastery of the Metallic school of elemental magic you should need only channel your vys and carve through the base of this perverse construction. However, you do wonder if perhaps you could not disable it rather than remove it. You trust Fulvia of course, but only so far.

>You only barely understand your surroundings. Carve away the base of the flower and lower it gently to the floor of this strange grove.
>Attempt to close up each of the petals, they appear designed for some limited mobility and in the absence of a clear actuator your magic will more than suffice.
>Hold off for now and allow yourself to rest at the base of the 'flower'. You should probably figure out just where it is upon this tree that Fulvia's knowledge of magic resides.

The part that oozes vys is probably important.
Probably should just carve away each of the petals and leave the stem/antenna unmolested.

To summarize, you:
>Realized each flower was a memory or a bit of information
>Learned that where nature magic is concerned a high initial investment saves vys in the long run, thus achieving Master rank in Nature Magic.
>Learned that this is merely an island of substance in a void being slowly eaten away at by harsh winds which destroy memories and bits of information deemed irrelevant.

There's little space to maneuver this high up in the boughs of the tree but at least there's fewer blossoms you have to be wary of crushing. You're able to carefully shift yourself so that you rest with your back against the stem of the flower which apparently limits Fulvia's capacity for independent action. You're straddling a branch and staring down the long expanse of flaking bark at a white flower perched there at its very tip.

Considering how little you know about your surroundings and taking into account the fact any mistake on your part could render a dear friend irreparably broken, you decide to allow yourself a moment to clear your thoughts and get your bearings. Before you go poking around Fulvia's psyche you should probably figure out where exactly in this great oak she wanted you to go poking around.

Making yourself as comfortable as possible you allow your eyes to slip closed and rest your head against the flower's stem. Power floods from the tips of your fingers, seeping into the branch between your legs and slowly spreading through the veins of magic twisting through the wood. You're able to sift through the random bits and pieces of shattered memories, sparse as they are this high in the tree's branches.

Your mind alights upon what you can only assume is the arterial channel drawing knowledge from every disparate corner of Fulvia's mind and dragging it deeper into her core to presumably be processed and acted upon. This high up you're spared the mundanities of her every thought, there is not hint of emotion or whim in the material coursing through the branches here. Only the purity of her will, ready to be transformed into action.

However, there's a taint which spreads from the flower at your back into that most essential manifestation of Fulvia's desires. It eats away at certain notions, destroying them piece by piece as they flow towards the ground far below. From what brief snatches you're able to perceive those bits of information targeted for destruction relate to Fulvia's memories of crafting that explosive substance she and Mortia have spent the last few hours working on, stripped down to their most basic impulses before being lost amidst a torrent of other information.

Considering Fulvia is currently inoperative her mind remains surprisingly active, but you suppose even deprived of power there are task which she needs to tend to in order to maintain clarity of thought.

(1/2)
>>
Scanning out along the branches you discover that these highest boughs mostly relate to her most basic functions. Much of it is lost upon you, though you think the flower at the end of the branch you're straddling is responsible for Fulvia's ability to slot into any vaguely compatible golem body and pilot it around as she pleases. Her knowledge of magic lies a few levels further down the trunk of the tree, amidst a small outcropping of blue flowers which consumes the better part of three limbs of the tree. A few minutes ago you'd nearly crushed one underneath the sole of your sandals, it's a good thing you caught yourself before you wiped out what little innate knowledge she has of Metal magic.

>You should probably add to Fulvia's knowledge of magic your own, and trim away her prior understanding, before freeing her of whatever limitations are placed upon her.
>She asked that you grant her your current understanding of combat, and since she lacks any prior knowledge it should be the easiest of your current task. Knock that out now.
>It's best that you stick with your initial plan. Carve the flower off the peak of the tree and dispose of it before doing anything else.
>Snap off the petals only, and leave the central antenna. You've little idea what effect that might have, but it shouldn't be catastrophic.
>Fold the petals up towards the central body and bind them in place there, perhaps that will disable whatever effect the antenna has.

You withdraw from your shallow meditative trance, returning to the world contained within Fulvia's core. This high up in the branches of the tree you're able to see out beyond the canopy to what lies beyond, and it's far from a welcoming sight. A great swirling blizzard, ice ripping away desiccated leaves and churning up the soil. Anything that touches it is reduced to its most basic elements, incorporated into the storm.

Looking up you find a slightly more pleasant sight awaiting you. The sky is a clear, crystalline blue which reflects light from some unknown source, bathing the world below in vys. It stretches on endlessly, dappled with points of black which glisten dully like perverse stars. You can't begin to imagine what they might be, affixed to what you guess is the surface of Fulvia's core.

Regardless, you didn't come here to sightsee. Fulvia wanted to be more skilled with a blade, and considering she has no prior knowledge of combat it should be fairly simple to grant her what knowledge you possess. You won't have to cut anything away at the very least and you know far less about combat than you do about magic.

Right then, in theory all you need to do is focus on what you know of combat. You have an inkling of an idea that it's slightly more involved than that, but it's a start. Closing your eyes, you take a few deep breaths to calm yourself and clear your head. Plucking at the threads of your own memory you're able to summon a vague recollection of time spent on the sparring grounds, fighting other soldiers in service to the Shah. These, you realize, are those memories transferred to you from Darzi so long ago, when you first entered the Mines of Longia.

The moment your grasp upon the memories solidifies you feel them snatched from your grasp, a headache splitting your skull as the knowledge is extracted forcefully. You can still feel it, on the periphery of your awareness, as it flows down the tree and through its limbs to pool beneath the surface of a branch some few levels down. The taint of the antenna hovers about the edges, struggling to pick away at the knowledge contained within the fragmented memory but failing to so much as fray the mass of your divine essence.
>Vys Pool: (72/[72])

Feeding more and more of your memories to the tree, that mass of divine essence grows in tandem with your headache. You're drained of all you know of combat, of all Marsala Ve's ninety-six forms and of the techniques depicted in the illusory codex which taught you so much of Metal magic. Even those foreign memories inserted into your husk so long ago by the machine within the very same Rhynian complex which once housed Fulvia are robbed from you. The knowledge once offered is lost but you know full well that given time you'll recover what you sacrifice now. You'll simply need to rest for a time at some point in the near future.
>Vys Pool: (62/[62])

(1/2)
>>
By the end of the experience you feel drained but not excessively so. However, you know that offering up magic will be far and away a more draining process. Not only is your knowledge of magic far more intrinsic to your identity there's just more of it. There's also the question of whether or not you'll be able to carve away the flower after offering up what you know of Metal magic, as you could scarcely wield a spear with any degree of competence in your current state. The very idea feels foreign, even though you have clear and distinct memories of fighting with a significant degree of skill not long ago.

We already told her we lied. She figured tht since we had basically proven to her that we could be trusted somewhat, she would stay with us. Also, she decided to actually go and make us a Dux, because she could.

At least, thats how I remember it.
>>
Much as you're loathe to part with all that you know of magic, even if only temporarily, it's ultimately going to benefit you to do so. Not only does this mean Fulvia will have within her encyclopedic memory all the various secrets you've discovered over the course of the last few months regarding the nature of reality, the gods, spirits, and magic but she'll be able to use what you grant her against your mutual enemies. It will mark her far and away one of the most knowledgeable magic users in all the world, and you can only hope that your trust is not misplaced.

With each ounce of your being which vanishes into what you can only assume is an artificial representation of Fulvia's mind designed for your benefit, you feel yourself wasting away. All the power you've so proudly accumulated over the course of your adventures all your knowledge, the very ability to channel vys, all of it is ripped from your soul and channeled into the tree. You maintain only a tangential connection to what was once an intrinsic part of you, as it now pools within the branches some few feet beneath you.
>Vys Pool: (10/[10])

A great sense of emptiness fills you, a hunger that you know on some intrinsic level cannot be sated. You think to call upon your reserves, to attempt to channel some minor spell, but you cannot so much as generate a spark. You no longer feel that deep well of power which has so comforted you since you were a child, which has saved your life innumerable times, which has destroyed your enemies and won you the respect of your peers. It's simply gone, a hole in your chest which eats away at your thoughts try as you might to ignore the sheer wrongness of it. To be rendered... mundane leaves you feeling aimless and without purpose.

You comfort yourself with the knowledge that you need only rest to have all that you know restored, though it's little comfort in light of what you've lost. Regardless, there's little you can do about the limits eating away at Fulvia's will now. Without the ability to channel vys you have little hope of severing its connection to her mind. What's so disorienting is that you know, but moments ago, you could have torn the world down at your feet with little more effort than it takes you to get dressed.

The world is beginning to shift, the tree growing slowly but perceptibly taller underneath you. You can only assume that this is indication that Fulvia is beginning to integrate the knowledge you've bestowed upon her. You might be able to leave her now, having left intact those limits placed upon her mind. You could rest within the confines of your realm and reenter her later to remove the flower at the top of this great oak. However, you see no reason not to simply rest here within the confines of her core. It shouldn't take you more than a few hours to recover your grasp of magic, and the deadline placed upon you by the Triarchs is still more than a week distant.

He can warp travel to and from the cat's domain, his own, and the last place he was in the base reality.
And the only way he could create a portal to the void would be to rip a hole in reality which he couldn't necessarily control and which would proceed to vomit forth monsters. There is a character which can transport themselves rapidly using the void as a medium though, and generally wield it as anyone else would an element.

You decide to just sleep here, since if you left now reentering Fulvia would be a whole affair. It's really just not worth the trouble for a nap. That in mind you carefully slide down a few levels on the tree of Fulvia's mind until you can nestle yourself securely within a copse of branches without crushing anything important. It's uncomfortable, but not the worst place you've ever fallen asleep. Exhausted as you are by the task of enhancing Fulvia's knowledge of arts both magical and martial, sleep claims you in short order.

Your dreams are strange, colored as they are by a thousand foreign ideas at any given moment. You see yourself from many different angles, simultaneously resting within the boughs of Fulvia's mind and blasting a hole through your bedroom door with a bolt of artificial lightning. This while you pass days away as a shifting mass of rotting flesh deep within the Temple of Pani all while exploring the Mines of Longia and walking the streets of Anthus. It's like your mind has fragmented into eight or nine different pieces and all are maintaining an independent train of thought.
>Vys Pool: (74/74)

As you near consciousness the various perspectives on your life slowly come together to form one coherent stream of thought, your own. You awaken at a much higher altitude than you seem to recall falling asleep at. Even from deep within the boughs of the tree you can peer out over the canopy at the swirling blizzard beyond this copse of substance. More importantly there are far more flowers blooming around you than you seem to remember, including one poking up from underneath your arm and several growing on the trunk above you. They're incredibly fragrant, almost overpowering, and smell distinctly of cinnamon.

Extricating yourself carefully from where you'd lain amidst the branches, you begin to climb again. It takes you perhaps ten minutes to reach the very top of the great oak, when it only took you a minute at most to descend from that point originally. The metallic flower is much as you remember it, though it faces a different direction now. There are also more actual flowers blooming around its base, cast in brilliant shades of purple and red. Reaching out with Nature magic your mind alights upon their petals, and you're assaulted by a torrent of information. The procedure one must go through to enchant an object, infusing the carved runes with vys so they remain visible within the depths of a trance, your own knowledge regarding the nature of the soul. You're forced to withdraw, as your head swims under the sudden assault of your own thoughts.

>Rip away the limiter with Metal magic as Fulvia asked and hurl it into the blizzard to be disassembled.
>Rip away each of the petals in turn and leave it in that state.
>Fold the petals up towards the center and bind them shut.

Hey, soma. Just had a baby binge of the archives to catch up, question:

Was the plague happening down at the bottom of the mineshaft part of the God's method of felling the Rhynian empire?
>>
>>992972
No.
>>
Right, you've wasted enough time here. Time to finish the task Fulvia asked of you and get out of here. Channeling your vys, you suffuse the stem of the flower with that most essential element of creation. Ripping it from the tree is a simple matter, as the arterial chamber collapses with a tremendous crash and you rip twenty feet or more of steel from the hole carved into the trunk with little more than a thought. In this environment, inundated with vys as it is, you have little trouble managing such a feat. Nor has it seemed to have any significant effect upon the tree beneath your feet, it does not start to wither and die.

You gesture absentmindedly towards the blizzard raging just beyond this pocket of arboreal splendor and the collection of steel, wires, glass, and vys flies readily through the air. The moment it makes contact with that raging storm it's shredded into a thousand pieces and pulled along with the storm, becoming a mere part of its fury. Overall, the task was surprisingly simple. All that remains is to trim away the flowers which indicate Fulvia's previous knowledge of magic and you'll be done, but this too proves a simple task.

Amidst the fresh blooms of the knowledge you granted Fulvia are a small collection of shriveled, brown flowers which have atrophied over the course of the last few... hours? It feels like it's been a few hours. You rip these from the wood of the great oak with barely any exertion of vys on your part, and they turn to dust at the slightest urging. You don't even need to discard them into the raging storm beyond. Satisfied that your task is accomplished you slowly but surely make your way back to the moss-covered clearing where you awoke not so long ago, savoring the sensation of solid ground beneath your feet even if you fully realize this is all a mere illusion. A figment of Fulvia's imagination invented for your benefit.

You're not entirely sure as to how you're supposed to go about leaving now that you've done as she asked, but focusing upon the notion and channeling Nature magic you connect your mind to the tree before you and press upon Fulvia the necessity of returning you to your realm. The world goes black, and when next you're aware of yourself you stand... not within the confines of your workshop where you'd been prior to entering Fulvia's core. Instead you're in the foyer, surrounded by your companions. Profectus has tripped and fallen and is staring at you with a hand against his chest. Darzi and Chryssa seem similarly surprised to see you, the former more so than the latter, and Fulvia's body is draped limply across the floor with the hatch atop her head popped open.

(1/2)
>>
Mortia is nowhere to be seen, oddly enough. Nor are Devika or Zahak, though that's hardly surprising. They've been spending most of their time together since entering your realm, and your son can't really fit through the doors all that well. “What did I miss over the course of the last few hours?” You ask, shattering the silence which had grown to dominate the room.

“It's been five days since we last saw you, Mik.” Darzi announces irritably as she offers Profectus a hand up. “We thought you'd returned to the base reality without us! Where have you been?”
>It is currently the 11th of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

A more pressing concern is how much time that leaves you to find those ruins the Triarchs asked you to locate and enter. Two days, you believe. You have two days left to travel across the vastness of the jungle, delve a ruin, and activate an ancient artifact for some unknown purpose on behalf of creatures from beyond the Gods' creation. “I entered Fulvia's core to enhance her present innate understanding of magic and exhausted myself in the process. I thought to rest, since there was no pressing need to return to the realm I elected to do so within her core. I suppose time moves faster there than it does out here.

“My apologies if I caused you any undue concern.” Despite the growing sense of panic you're able to maintain a calm facade. “I take it you haven't been slowly dying of hunger and thirst over the course of the last few days, and that leaving my supplies here within the realm allowed my subconscious to take advantage of the material to form actual food rather than the mere facsimile of it?”

Profectus, occupied straightening his tunic, nods. “Indeed it did, I've been eating better the last few days than I have at any other point in my long life. Your subconscious has good taste.”

“More importantly,” Darzi interjects, folding her arms beneath her chest. “Are we ever going to get around to voyaging into the jungle or are we going to remain here on the border eating well and training until the Gods grow fed up with the affairs of mortals and rip apart the creation they've so laboriously maintained?”

>Well, you're going to voyage into the jungle upon Zahak's back while they remain here in your realm. You only have two days, and they'd slow you down.
>You've good news for everyone, you're all setting off immediately at as rapid a pace as is reasonable into the jungle. Time is of the essence!

So I have this really stupid idea.

For our grandmaster fire meditation, would it be possible for Zahak to swallow us, then we meditate inside of him trying to burn him and he meditates trying to burn us?

If not we could just do a father and son meditation over the ashes of a Phoenix or some shit.

...or,

I'd pick the second. Though I don't know if it's something that would give the most interesting perk. But if Soma genuinely put it to a vote, I'd vote for the first just to see Zahak's dumbfounded reaction to Mik's suggestion.

Frowning, you consider how you ought to go about announcing your plans. “Let me put it this way, we're all going to be voyaging into the jungle. It's just that I'm the only one who's going to be leaving the realm.” Anger flashes across Darzi's features, but you head off whatever protest she might offer. “I've only got two days to find the artifact asked of me before the cosmic monstrosities manipulating fate for their amusement decide to extract the favor I owe them via some alternative method. I know, it was negligent on my part to allow time to grow so short. That doesn't change the fact that Zahak and I can travel faster than the...” You trail off, counting off your companions on your fingers. “Seven of us, or eight if you count Yama, could travel as a group.”

The corner of her lip twitches as she fights back a scowl. “Fine.” She finally manages to spit out. “But you know, I don't exactly enjoy being left here to rot in this labyrinthine maze you call a realm. Those ape creatures are its only saving grace, because without them we would all be constantly and hopelessly lost.”

Darzi turns sharply and strides away, passing into the landing of the stairwell. As the door slips shut behind her, Profectus rest a hand upon your shoulder companionably. “She's just been stressed lately, worrying over where you'd run off to and whether you were okay, whether we were going to be stuck here for the foreseeable future.” He counsels you. “She'll get over it in short order, and Gods know you've got to do whatever it takes to ward off the malevolence of the cosmic entities you so often bargain with. Just be careful, and maybe tell the monkeys to use less pepper. It can get a little overpowering in some of the dishes the prepare.”

“I'll be sure to remind them.” You remark laconically. “Though I think they're simply expressions of my own subconscious whims, so they're using exactly the amount of pepper I would prefer. Whatever the case may be, stay out of trouble and try not to waste the time you'll be spending here. I know your understanding of effects and metamagic is lacking, and Fulvia,” You gesture to where your robotic companion lays sprawled out across the floor. “Should be able to assist you in learning more of both. I granted her the entirety of my magical understanding while I was there within her core.”

HAHAHAH no. Not at all.

As we demonstrated during that sparring session, martials aren't shit. We could walk all over Darzi.
Fuck, even Profectus could, and he's practically a martial himself.

Face it. The only reason you want Darzi to stay in our party is because you're a waifufag.

Ah, so he thinks hes got a good grasp on what makes a man evil now does he?

Have you watched the life flee from someones eyes as they stare up at you in the back of an alley, while your knife twists repeatedly, sending jerks up and down the body of the person? Have you laughed quietly in their face as you told them about how they would never see their kids again, and to push the point in deeper you turn slightly to show his wifes corpse on the ground? Then, after figuring out his address from the drivers liscence, driving to the house with a tank of gasoline, in their car with the parents in the back? Opening up the door at 12 at night, while the kids are still asleep and barricading their doors on the second floor?

Have you light a house on fire, and watched a family burn?

Personally, I like to see how many bodies I can fit into one before the police show up. Bonus points if I can get some of them stuck in there too.
>>
Speaking of, you glance around the room until you find Fulvia's core lying on a table behind you. “Why didn't anyone think to slot this back into her body, out of curiosity?” You ask as you pluck it up, crouching to push it back into her body's head.

“We tried but it did not work.” Chryssa says, speaking for the first time since you emerged from Fulvia's core. “The hatch refused to remain closed, so we stopped trying to force the issue.”

As you slot the core into the receptacle atop the spherical head of Fulvia's strange, semi-organic body the hatch swings shut readily. You stand and back away a few feet, your companions doing the same. After a moment's delay, Fulvia braces her hands upon the floor and pushes herself to her feet. Her single, gleaming blue eye narrows to a pinprick of light and examines first Profectus, then Chryssa, and finally settles upon you.

Seconds pass, and you think to ask if she's okay when finally you feel her presence in your thoughts. Her voice is quiet, and you don't sense that great awe-inspiring mass of thoughts and feelings which so usually accompanies direct contact with Fulvia's thoughts. It's far more limited, contained you'd say, and those emotions that bleed through are clear and comprehensible. Curiosity, a hint of fear, and an overwhelming sense of joy. {Thank you, I possess a clarity of thought which I have not had since my Creator deemed me unsuitable as a companion. There is no single feat great enough which I could perform to repay this favor.}

“It's quite alright, Fulvia.” Sure it ate up quite a bit of your time but it will be nice to have someone equally competent to assist you in magical task. “So long as you continue to serve me faithfully as a friend and as a companion you will have more than justified the effort spent in removing the unnatural limits placed upon you so long ago.”

Your robotic companion nods her head, eye dilating so that it's no longer a mere point of light at the center of her spherical head. {Very well, then I will perform these task to the best of my ability until such a time as you no longer have need of me or I cease to be operational.}

You reach out, resting a hand atop the smooth metallic dome of Fulvia's head and rubbing its smooth surface. The effect seems kind of lost on her, considering she just stares at you with that unblinking, glowing eye of hers. “I appreciate it, Fulvia, and know that I don't intend on abandoning you as readily as your creator. You'll always have a home at my estate”

A strong sense of affection radiates from her thoughts, which is promptly tamped down and suppressed. {I will keep that in mind, Mikhael. You should likely seek out Zahak so as to return to the base reality.}

“Are you trying to get rid of me?” Before she can offer any response, you carry on. “Regardless, you're right. However, in my absence I want you to work with the others and try to figure out if any of them are underutilizing their particular capabilities. Profectus in particular, as I feel like that arm of his can be more useful than it already is.” You nod to Prof, where he currently stands admiring the stonework of his prosthetic. “But you should spend some time with all of our companions, you do possess just as expansive an understanding of magic as I do now.”

{I will do my best to see your will carried out without delay or error, Mikhael.} The sincerity accompanying her every errant thought leaves no doubt in your mind that she means every word she says. {Thank you again for freeing me from those unnatural limitations, I have chafed for so long at less than my full capacity.}

Satisfied, you leave Chryssa, Fulvia, and Profectus standing in the sitting room and pass into the long hallway which separates the interior of your realm from the exterior. Zahak and Devika are resting in the corner of your realm set aside for your son, the latter recounting a story to the former of your people's origins. It's the children's tale you recall reading about while still an apprentice, of the elven maiden who wooed a dragon and how their descendants are the samja. A false tale certainly, but a popular one nonetheless.

You find Zahak's domed chamber much changed since the last time you visited this place. Its upper reaches have been transformed into a twisting, comprehensible network of interwoven stone with bits and pieces of junk stored throughout. Furniture, cushions, piles of gold, all manner of random, disparate bits and pieces. Near the hole at the center of the dome the stone forms instead a nest around the periphery, leaving the hole clear but forming a complex series of tunnels high above which Zahak can presumably retreat to for privacy or comfort.

Dragons seem to have a strange roosting instinct, much like birds. Regardless, your draconic son currently lounges within a near boiling pool of water, salt forming great deposits around the rim. Devika lies sprawled out across five or six pillows near-by, gesticulating wildly in the air as she recounts the story for Zahak. “-so clever and pretty that when the dragon returned in the guise of an elf he could not help but do as she asked, and so the tribe set off south and every time they encountered another dragon he would fly up and they would fight!”

She says this part with a particular passion about her, punching the air excitedly as though to illustrate the battle. Zahak adds a bolt of fire to the mix, the globule of flame exploding as it strikes the opposite wall with a tremendous roar. Devika seems quite taken with this, applauding your son's feat of magical might. “I see you two are getting along well.”

That simple sentence is enough to draw your son's attention, and he raises himself from the salt bath to send a cascade of water flying about the room as he snaps out his wings. You note, in those few seconds you're allowed, that Zahak was kind enough to divert the water away from his friend with a twist of vys. You're tackled promptly to the ground, wrapped up in a tangle of limbs and wings as Zahak launches himself towards you.

He's bigger than you remember, but then again he seems to grow at a near exponential rate. {Papa! I was really worried when Darzi came here to say that she couldn't find you and I tried to fly around to help but I couldn't find you and then I got even more worried but now you're okay!}

The thoughts come out as a near continuous stream of concepts and emotions you barely have time to process before you're forced to move on to the next. His relief is obvious, but you're more concerned with the fact he threatens to crush you alive beneath his bulk. “You might be getting a bit big to hug Papa like this.” Your voice sounds muffled even to your own ear, and you pat insistently upon Zahak's side. He gets the hint and releases you, but it's reluctantly. “Do you want to come with me on an adventure into the jungle?”

{Yeah!} The thought comes forcefully enough that you almost flinch. {When are we leaving? Is it now? Because I'm ready now! I just need to get on my saddle and also the wing metal things but then I'll be ready and that won't take too long with Devi's help!}

Shooting a bolt of flame across his ribs, he crouches down so that he's roughly nose to nose with you and rattles the scales upon his neck to create a sound almost akin to a cat's purr. “That's quite alright, I'm in a rush but not to the point that I can't spare a few minutes for my son. In fact, I was thinking I ought to bring Devika as well if she's willing to join us. Otherwise Yama may be quite angry with me.”

“Oh no!” Devika bolts upright, struggling out of her nest of pillows. “I completely forgot about Yama! He's going to be so irritable with me.” She huffs, pushing her bangs out of her eyes. “I'll come with you, Mister Mikhael. I wouldn't want him to hurt you because of me, you've been a really good host!”

You wave her off, still shooting flame across Zahak's belly. He's twisted himself carefully so that he's laying half on his side, granting you better access. “Don't mention it, Devika. I've barely been aware of my surroundings. It's really been Zahak doing all the work.” You cut the flow of vys through your arm, and turn your attention to your son once more. “Go on, get your saddle and armor. I'll wait here.”

Zahak rights himself, braces his legs, and launches himself promptly into the air. Your loose cloak is buffeted by his take off, and Devika is nearly bowled over by the down stroke of his immense wings. He perches upon his little roost surrounding the hole in the ceiling and shoves his head inside, rooting around for a moment. Two metallic plates affix themselves to his shoulders, presumably moved there via magic, and then Zahak falls backwards with his saddle clutched between his jaws.

He plummets towards you, wings snapping out at the last second and beating powerful to halt his momentum and carry him gently to the ground. Well, as gently as a creature his size can manage, his impact still shaking the chamber and sending a cascade of gold coins tumbling to the floor. He carefully manipulates the saddle onto his back via a minor exertion of vys, likely controlling the various metal plates bolted to its surface, and before you're able to Devika darts underneath your son to fasten the various straps of the saddle.

She emerges a few minutes later, her head poking out from behind one of your son's wings. “Is that too tight?” Some unheard communication passes between the two, and then she ducks back underneath your son to make some adjustments. She emerges again shortly thereafter and climbs laboriously up onto your son's back, slotting herself into the padded bags positioned behind the saddle proper and strapping herself in with a few make-shift leather belts. “Ready!”

I think we all need to have a serious discussion pertaining to the fact that our gracious quest master known as Soma. He is not the proficient writer we once thought him to be, in all actuality he is a hack and a fraud peddling low quality goods, he is equatable to the snake oil salesmen of yore. We have seen him throw out worthless and petty drama time and time again yet accepted his skill as a writer nonetheless, we suck in his scenes of mindless violence like a starving calf does his mothers teat, we do this even though it is obscenely obvious to even the lowest of the common plebes that violence could be written by a third grader. For far too long have we debased ourselves reveling in simple adrenaline evoking scenes and suffering through mindless drivel between. I say it is high time that we demand of Soma a higher quality quest and that he should be held accountable for his poorly thought out setting and plot lines that are so blatantly come up with on the spot. I personally have spent several weeks deep within the bowels of the beast known as the ircabal and in my times there I have gathered evidence which leads me to believe there is a origin point for all the flaws which our quest master has. I propose that soma is a autisitc pedophile lacking in the common moral fiber that binds upstanding society, I assert this to have been the driving factor in his early leave from home as he had made unwelcome sexual advances upon his underage sister possibly even raping her. The resulting social backlash and banishment from his normal everyday life would be an extreme stress factor to someone with autism, leading to him seeking a way to vent his frustrations in some way. That way is Banished Quest; Banished Quest is an autisitc pedophiles emotional vent enabled and allowed to continue for far too long. I thank you for your time reading all of this my fellow questing individuals and I welcome all constructive criticism.
