In a time of global crisis, an elite international task force known as Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. The heroes of Overwatch kept peace for a generation, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Now world conflict is rising again. Overwatch may be gone…but the world still needs heroes.

You are Bandit, an adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. A few days ago, you encountered the reformed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-own-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Thanks anon.

Not running much tonight, but I wanted to get a new thread set up. Tomorrow I'm running once my hangover is done.

Last time on Overwatch Quest, Part 2: The Last Crusader:

You and Tracer took the Aurora to Eichenwalde, Germany, a small town in the black forest mountains and the site of a legendary battle between the Crusader knights and the Omnic forces. There you found the last Crusader, the man some called the heart of Overwatch, Reinhardt Wilhelm. Some kind of strange remote drones were repairing the overgrown Bastion units from the battle. Fighting your way through the Omnics, you encountered the armor of Reinhardt's master, Balderich, that somehow came to life on its own and attacked you. You were victorious in the battle, but the cause of all this remains unknown.

You, Tracer, Reinhardt, and his armorer Brigitte, are leaving Eichenwalde for the Aurora, parked in an open field outside the town. Brigitte starts to transfer the battered Crusader armor from her hover-sled to the aircraft's small cargo hold. Reinhardt gingerly levers his bruised frame into the passenger compartment. Tracer hops into the pilot's seat and begins the warm-up sequence. She checks the scanning array. "Bandit, there's something still registering on the scanner nearby. About a hundred meters thataway. Can you check it out?"

You move to the other side of the aircraft. You see something in that direction. At this distance, it almost looks like just a big clump of moss and flowers. At this point, you suspect otherwise. Another Omnic? You approach warily.

It is, in fact, another Bastion unit. But something about this one seems different. Its panels are white, and the central eye is glowing blue. It's holding up one of its hands, and you see something small and yellow there, perched on its finger. A bird? It chirps merrily up at the Bastion unit, which tilts it head to examine the bird.

not that smart the main reason they are dangerous is the modes they can enter into like sentry and siege mode

those modes gave them great versatlity

Bastion untis were frontline combat units during the war, though not much else is known from that. If we can go off of The Last Bastion short, they were used to overwhelm defenders through both numbers and firepower while the heavier units podded along behind them.
>>
>>997235
But will it blend?
>>
>>997235
When i say smart i'm wondering how they would compare to the standard Omnic. Were they as intelligent, capable of making decisions and performing complex tactics, or were they "Slaved" to a single higher mind that delivered there orders and the Bastions themselves were only capable of basic functions such as movement and shooting.
>>
>>997258
>or were they "Slaved" to a single higher mind that delivered there orders and the Bastions themselves were only capable of basic functions such as movement and shooting.
pretty much this
>>
>>997261
So how much anatomy did Bastions have without a Overseer to control them? Would they revert to Last Bastions state, Go to a berserk state and destroy preselected targets that were in sight, or just enter a standby mode until a connection was reestablished?

>"Slaved" to a single higher mind that delivered there orders and the Bastions themselves were only capable of basic functions such as movement and shooting.

It was pretty much this, yeah. The OG Strike Team's primary targets during the war were taking out the command and control structures of the Omnics.

And the Bastion was merely their infantry unit---think about that. A dummy AI-commandeered robot that could turn into a small tank and a gigantic gatling gun was the bread and butter footsoldier. This is coming from a force that commanded superheavy walker units that were about the same size as probably Warhound scout titans from 40k lore at the complete other end of the spectrum.

>>997271

I'd assume that, without the C&C structure, they'd shut down--kinda like how the Battle Droids deactivated after the Droid Control Ship blew up in The Phantom Menace.
>>
>>997273
So if a Overseer class Omnic or a human who could mimic them accurately enough, looking at you Sombra, they could reactivate his base programming and force him out of his standby mode. You guys know of any good firewalls we could upload into him or would it be better to try and delete his old programming?

If we delete his old programming there's a chance we'll delete whatever makes Bastion, well, Bastion. I'm sure Wintston or someone else can come up with some cybersecurity for him, though.
>>
>>997295
We would not be rewriting his memory's just his underlining nature. It would be more like removing a reflex if we would use a human analogy; instead of being forced to react to a outside stimulus he can instead have the choice to react to the outside order. If all else fails we could slave him to Athena and then not give him any orders so he remains in his current state.

You approach carefully, walking with quiet steps through the grass. As you do, you try to remember anything you know about the intelligence of Bastion units.

The Bastions were mass-produced soldiers, created as peacekeepers. In the Crisis, they were turned against humanity, and formed the primary combat unit of the Omnic army. If you recall correctly, the basic soldiers were only given enough programming for basic combat maneuvers and objectives. An Overseer program would order it "go here, use this formation, attack humans" and it could carry out that mission with relative autonomy. Nothing beyond that. But ...

The Shambali monks claim that Omnics have souls. You're not sure about that, but it's hard to deny that Omnics are more than just robots. Self-improving software is the foundation of their code. Some strange things have come out of there, things that no human ever put there.

You observe the Bastion unit doing something, manipulating the mossy overgrowth on its torso and arms. The bird flies around it in circles, tweeting away merrily. You magnify the view with your helmet. The robot is adding twigs to a half-finished bird's nest on its shoulder.

Now isn't that something.

Okay. You've come this far without killing it. Time to try introducing yourself.

"Hello?" you say to the Bastion. "Can you understand me?"

The Bastion's head swivels in your direction. You wave to it, wondering if it understand human gestures. The blue light in its eye flickers. It rotates its body to face you.

For a moment you feel like you've made a huge mistake. You just survived your first real Overwatch mission against half a dozen Bastions and some kind of freaky reanimated Crusader armor, why did you have to go and mess it up like this right at the end--

The Bastion beeps. It raises its hand slowly. Then it waves at you, in a stiff-jointed copy of the gesture you just made.

"Wow," you say. "So you're a ... a friendly Bastion? Is that even possible?"

The Bastion tilts it head quizzically, like a dog. It beeps.

"Right, I guess I'm not going to get much an answer out of you. Huh."

Something about this Bastion is different, that's for sure. If nothing else, it's an oddity worth studying.

You think about what might happen if you walked away. Left the strange robot alone, in a country of people still scarred from the brutal onslaught of enslaved armies of Bastions just like this one. Would it really be safe?

No. Sometimes people find it too hard to forgive. You're not sure if you could blame them.

So what can you do? Just leave it here to die? A lonely Bastion that might have developed a ... what do you call it, a soul? A conscience? Free will?

A crazy idea occurs to you.

"I don't know if you can understand me," you say to the anomalous Bastion. "Do you know what you are? What you were used for? People might want to hurt you, because ..."

The Bastion looks down at its right arm, the submachine gun. It emits a distinctly sad-sounding tone.

"That's right," you say. "Because of what you were made to do. But I can see you're not like that. If you come with me, I have a place we can go. A place you can be free to exist."

The Bastion beeps, questioning.

"It's not much of a home yet," you say. "But you might like it anyway. Hold on, I'd better check with my partner here." You activate your commlink. "Tracer?"

"What's up? Find anything out there?"

"Yeah, I did. Something interesting. It's a Bastion that's, well it's not attacking me for starters. It's just standing there peacefully, looking at me. I think it's even trying to talk to me. I mean, it's building a damn bird's nest on its shoulder, and the bird is at this very moment flying in circles around the robot, tweeting."

"Are you pulling my leg, mate?" says Tracer. "That sounds like a bloody kid's cartoon or something."

"I'm looking at it right now," you say. "Maybe you'd better see for yourself."

>"Are you pulling my leg, mate?" says Tracer. "That sounds like a bloody kid's cartoon or something."

Funny coming from the time traveling pilot who's best friends with Dr. Zaius
>>
"I don't believe it," says Tracer. She walks slowly in a circle around the Bastion, maintaining a safe distance. "You were even right about the bird's nest."

The robot's head tracks Tracer, rotating the full 360 degrees. It beeps inquisitively.

"Try talking to it," you suggest.

"Er-- hiya," says Tracer, waving to the robot. It returns the wave and adds a series of beeps. "Spooky. Maybe it really does understand us. Have you heard of the Shambali, mate?"

"Heard of them," you say. "Something about Omnics having a soul?"

"That's right. Tekhartha Mondatta said that Omnics and humans were spiritual equals. That we were all one within the Iris. Could this Bastion have had some kind of ... spiritual awakening?"

"I'm not sure about any of that Iris stuff. But I know Omnics have self-improving code, too complicated for human programmers. The idea of it "waking up" somehow isn't that far-fetched. I mean, I'm looking at the evidence right now, which helps."

"Wow," says Tracer. "What do you think we should do with it?"

"I, er-- I may have invited it back to the base--"

"You did WHAT?"

"It won't be safe out here! Eventually someone with a grudge against Omnics will find it, someone whose father or brother was killed in the war. What do you think will happen then?"

"Someone will get hurt," sighs Tracer in agreement. "Either this omnic or a human. And I'm not okay with either of those. Of course, you realize what this means."

"What's that?" you ask her.

"We have to explain this to Reinhardt."

We just fought a bunch of other reactivated Bastion units back at that castle and we just happen to run into another one?
Whatever turned them on, still looking at you Sombra, most likely reactivated this one as well; just so happened that for whatever reason this one dose not want to kill anyone. If we can trace the signal he received we will have a lead on whoever reactivated those other ones.
>>
>>998237

"Follow me, pal," you say to the Bastion. "I think we've got just enough space for you in our ride." Experimentally, you take a few steps in the direction of the Aurora, and look back. The Bastion takes the same number of steps towards you, stops, beeps at you. "Good Bastion," you say, wondering if you should be treating it more like a dog or a human. How smart is this thing? Does it have a sense of pride?

The three of you walk towards the Aurora. You say to Tracer, "Maybe I should ride on its shoulders."

Tracer says, "Ride it? What for?"

"To show dominance," you say. "Or it can be my battle steed. I'll ride it into combat, shouting "I have tamed the Omnic! Fear me!""

Tracer giggles. "I'd fear that right enough. A man rides a recon Bastion into battle, who knows what he's capable of? You did already air-surf on that repair droid back there, if I recall."

"Heh. Yeah, that I did."

"Those were some pretty slick moves today, mate," she says. "You handled yourself nicely. I was already confident after me old friend gave you his recommendation, but it's nice to see that confidence pay off right away, you know? I've got a good feeling about this. About you and the team."

"Thanks, Tracer. Okay. Time to try and persuade Reinhardt ..."

As it turns out, the old warrior isn't actually that hard to convince. "The Overseer programs were always our true enemies," he says. "One single Bastion unit, not controlled by anything? When my enemy strikes me, do I blame the hand that held the weapon, or the mind that controlled the hand? But my friends, I worry. What might happen if it were to be taken over once more? We must prevent this."

Brigitte is the one who needs convincing, but eventually a practical argument gets through to her. "Not only is it a person," you say to her. "But it's a badass. We need some firepower to help defend our home turf. And we've just had it handed to us. A tame Bastion. How useful is that? Also, whatever reactivated these, maybe it left a trail. Investigating this thing's register could give us a lead, help us stop an attack like this from happening again."

"Fine," she says, throwing up her hands. "Just don't come complaining to me if it goes berserk and blows up the base."

At your request, the Bastion slowly approaches the aircraft. You and Tracer look at each other. "Er -- should it go in the cargo hold, or--?"

"Come inside, my new friend," says Reinhardt, gesturing to the passenger compartment. "There should be just enough room for the three of us. Perhaps we can trade war stories, eh?"

The Bastion beeps happily, clanks towards the passenger doorway.

You and Tracer get yourselves seated in the cockpit. You say to her, "I think that went well. In addition to Reinhardt and his armorer, we somehow ended up with a maybe-sentient Omnic on the team."

"It'll be kind of like having a dog around the base," Tracer says, punching in the power-up sequence. "A big, metal dog with a gigantic machine gun."

"It's funny," you say. "We went to recruit the last Crusader, and found the last Bastion as well."

The Aurora lifts into the air smoothly and takes off for Gibraltar.

You're divided between first visiting the Bastion unit in the server room, or Winston in his laboratory. Getting Winston to look at your equipment is a priority, but you figure the server room is closer to you and on the way to the lab, so you go there first.

Bastion is standing motionless in the middle of the room, a maze of wires connecting him to the large computer servers surrounding him. Tracer is leaning against the wall nearby. "Morning," she says to you, stifling a yawn. "I stayed up last night watching the security system to make sure our new friend here didn't get up to any funny business last night. He stayed still pretty much the whole time. He waves at me if I wave to him, beeps at me if I talk to him. That's about it. Winston has him plugged in to some kind of diagnostic program."

"Has it found anything out?" you ask.

"Not much. Its brain, or whatever you want to call it, looks like it's divided into two sections. One's the original Bastion unit military programming. The other is a jumbled mess, ones and zeroes that seem to be random. Athena is analyzing the random noise section now. Hasn't found anything."

You scratch your head, looking at the robot. "And it hasn't communicated beyond beeping? I know it doesn't come equipped with a voice synthesizer, but surely now that it's patched into the computers, it could write to us, or use text to speech?"

"You would think so," says Tracer. "But it just beeps! I even tried typing to it using the interface here. More beeps. How can it understand what we say, but not communicate back to us? Bloody mystery if you ask me."

So when this is all said and done are we just gonna cordon off the server maintenance area for Bastion? Or can we let him wander around the base as he pleases?

Also, how the hell are we gonna try convincing the more vehemently anti-Omnic future members--like Torbjorn or pic related--that this particular 7-foot tall gatling gun on legs is totally different from the other 7-foot tall gatling guns on legs that ran roughshod over the world some twenty years ago?

"You should get some rest," you say to Tracer. "I'll stay patched in to the security, keep an eye on our friend here. We can talk about our next mission later."

She stifles another yawn. "Okay. Thanks, mate. G'night." She sleepily walks off to the crew quarters.

You turn to face your new robot friend. "Good morning, Bastion."

It beeps at you. Three notes, the middle one slightly higher. Is it trying to say "good morning" back?

"This would be a lot easier if you could talk," you mutter.

You walk over to the interface Tracer mentioned. It still displays the queries she typed in. "What do you want?" "What is the nature and origin of your present mind-state?" "What is your favorite color?" "Do you like ice cream?" There's no answer to any of them.
You look at the Bastion. It stares back at you with its single, unblinking blue eye.

"What ARE you?" you ask it, out loud.

No answer.

"I wonder if you're learning anything just from listening to us talk," you wonder out loud. "How about it, Bastion? Learning anything from the wonders of human speech?"

Nothing.

"Your bird friend came with you, right? Does it have a name?"

Silence.

"Beep boop boop," you say. "Beep?"

It tilts its head at you.

You sigh. Just like that time you tried meowing at your cat.

"Let's try this," you say. You pull up a chair, spin it around, sit on it backwards with your arms folded on the backrest. "If I ask you a question, beep one time for yes, or two times for no. That should be easy, right? Can you do that?"

A pause, Bastion staring at you. Then: beep!

"Okay, good stuff. Making some progress. Let's see. Control question first, I guess. Are you a Bastion unit?"

Beep.

"Do you know where you are?"

Beep.

"Do you want to be here?"

Beep.

So far, so good. "Do you remember anything, before we found you in that field?"

Beep-beep.

"So you don't remember the war?"

A long pause this time. Bastion's eye light flickers. For a brief moment, so fast you're not sure it actually happens, its eye color switches from blue to red. Then it's back to normal.

It beeps twice again.

That's not nearly as comforting a "no" as you were hoping for.

That was unsettling. Can a robot have combat PTSD? For an Omnic that was once a soldier in a war, and now appears to enjoy the beauty of flowers, sunlight, and birdsong, maybe that's as good a name for it as anything.

Looks like you're not getting to the bottom of this any time soon. For now, you try your best to reassure Bastion. "Hey, it's okay. You're safe here. None of us are going to hurt you, or erase your programming, or whatever. We are going to keep trying to find out what's up with you, because, let's face it, you're kind of mysterious. Maybe once Winston is done his diagnostics he'll let you explore the base. Right now, just ... chill out here. Okay?"

Beep.

"All right, I'll see you later."

Bastion beeps and waves good-bye as you exit the server room.

Next it's time to stop by Winston's laboratory. Maybe he can help you do something about upgrading your equipment. In the lab, you find the gorilla sitting at his computer, making breakfast out of a banana and an entire jar of peanut butter.

"Morning, Winston."

"Ah! Our new recruit. Good morning. Tracer told me last night about your mission. It appears you were even more successful than we anticipated. Not only Reinhardt Wilhelm and his armorer friend Brigitte, but a remarkably pacifistic E-54 Bastion unit. A curiosity indeed."

"Winston, do you think a robot can have PTSD?"

"You're referring to our new friend in the server room, I take it? I can't say for certain. Artificial intelligence really isn't my speciality. Hmmm." Winston thinks it over. "If the Bastion did participate in the war, it would undoubtedly have memories stored of traumatic events. How that would interact with its current mind-state is beyond my knowledge, but I could surmise that, yes, it might be similar to the post-traumatic stress disorder experienced by combat veterans."

"Interesting. Well, maybe we'll figure out what's going on in that head of his. For now, I'm just hoping to find some kind of lead to use on whoever was repairing those Bastions at Eichenwalde."

"One can only hope."

"Anyway, Winston, I was thinking about upgrading my gear," you say. "If I'm going to be an Overwatch agent, my old tricks aren't going to cut it. I need something with some "oomph", you know?"

"I happen to have a suggestion on that very subject. While you were out on your mission, I cooked up a surprise I'd like to show you. It's back here," he says, knuckle-walking down the stairs and towards the back of the lab.

You follow him, looking around at the science equipment scattered around. "How's that project you mentioned coming along? A communications satellite, right?"

"It's coming along nicely. In a bit of a slow period right now. Compiling. But that gave me time to work on ... this!" The gorilla proudly holds up a compact device of machinery and circuits, with several loose wires and small tubes coming out.

"Thanks, but what is it?"

"It's an entanglement capacitor," he says. "Usually called an Ultimate Charger. This little gizmo here is how we Overwatch members gain access to what we call our Ultimates."

"Wow. How does it work?"

"To begin with," says Winston. "What is your background on quantum entanglement and zero-point energy squirt reactors?"

You stare at him blankly. "Er ..."

"I see." Winston adjust his glasses. "Okay. You know that your gear runs on a power source called "smart reactors", correct? Without getting into the theory, entanglement capacitors interact with smart reactors, and charge themselves on quantum energy as your equipment is used. Once it's at capacity, you can spend the charge to activate an armament or ability beyond your normal power capacity."

"So ... as you fight, you charge up, and then unleash a big attack?"

"Precisely. That's how we use our most powerful weapons. Tracer's pulse bomb replicator, or Reinhardt's seismic resonance impacter. They draw power from an Ult Charger as we fight. It's a rare technology these days. Few scientists still have the knowledge to create or repair one. Fortunately for you, one of them happens to be your friendly neighborhood science gorilla, yours truly. And I've just finished this one for you!"

Time to select an Ultimate!

Note: Our MC's equipment is all based on a patchwork of highly modular tech from the golden age. As such, unless otherwise noted, no equipment choices will be permanently locked in.

You have five equipment slots. Depending on which slot you install the Ult Charger in, you'll get a different Ultimate.

(You may find other interesting things to equip in these slots very soon.)

Sword (Attack 1)
Omnislash: Strike rapidly multiple times against nearby enemies.

Gun (Attack 2)
Gravity Gun: Gain 3 penetrating hitscan shots for significant damage.

Left Hand (Active)
Shadowshot: Fires a magnetic anchor that latches onto enemies, dealing damage and amplifying further damage against them. If a tethered enemy moves too far away from the anchor, the tether snaps, and the enemy is damaged and stunned.

Boots (Movement)
Shadow Dash: Gain 3 charges of a dash that damages enemies and releases homing projectiles.

Chest (Passive)
Agility Amp: Activate to gain increased movement speed, ability cooldown, and melee damage.

You upload some basic schematics of your gear to Athena. "Very interesting," she says. "I haven't seen ARES tech in many years."

"I've had plenty of ideas over time about how I might upgrade my gear if I had the resources," you say to Winston. You bring up a blueprint you've created for a device that fits over your left hand. "The one I want to use the Ult Charger for is something I call "Shadowshot." I believe with this compressor and these graviton actuators, here, I can create a tether, or a leash, out of gravitational force."

"I see, I see." Winston ponders your schematic. "This is quite interesting. For a man who claims not to be a scientist, you seem to have a natural grasp of graviton mechanics."

"I'm just a gadgeteer," you say. "Tracer tells me you're quite the engineer yourself, that you recently designed some kind of portable barrier shield?"

"I did indeed, yes. It took many sleepless nights and more than a few unfortunate explosions. But now that it's finished, the Barrier Projector will undoubtedly prove highly useful on deployment."

"Think you can apply some of those skills and help me build the Shadowshot?"

"Absolutely. Let's get to work right away."

It's about mid-day when you emerge from Winston's laboratory, stretching your arms and blinking in the sunlight. The device is almost complete, but you need a break. Winston was kind enough to provide you with some of his bananas for lunch, which makes a welcome break from the generic nutrient paste in the crew quarters. You take a old plastic deck chair up onto the roof of the communications array, and eat your bananas there, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

After lunch, you:

You won't leave Winston to finish your project alone, but before you head back to the lab, you decide to check in on Reinhardt. He took a beating in yesterday's battle, and you want to make sure he's recovering.

As you pass through the "dip" in the Watchpoint's road (why is this here again? you ask yourself, not for the first time), you pass by the storage room that Brigitte has used to set up her forge. You can hear her hammering away, trying to fix what she can of the Crusader armor.

The Watchpoint's perhaps ambitiously named "medbay" is another repurposed storage room, out by the launch pad. It's a room that you and Tracer earlier set out a few cots and some basic medical supplies in, just the bare essentials. For anyone to actually recover in this room, they'd need some kind of doctor, like --

"Mercy!" you say, surprised.

Angela's here in the medbay, patching up Reinhardt. "Hello," she says. "Reinhardt here was just telling me all about your adventure yesterday."

To Mercy:

>I hope he said, uh ... nice things?

like the hole sick idea could have been a friend and we were already a adventurer. we would have tried to help him but his death and us finding out about how it happened made us go revolutionary. but if he wants to do something else good for him. it's his story not mine.
im just giving sa few ideas is all.

All the backstory we need is that we were outraged that Overwatch was shut down and MegaCorps rose and ovetook everything as a result.
We became a Robin Hood because we couldn't stand to let it happen and we never forgot our goal; be what overwatch was in spirit. Good people going out to do great things for the sake of others.

We already met one possible endgoal by JOINING "Overwatch1.5"
Let's not overcomplicate things and just K.I.S.S

"I hope he said, uh ... nice things?"

"Indeed he did. What was the phrase you used, Reinhardt? A "dashing display of swordsmanship"?

"I believe it was, Angela," says the old warrior. "Young man, you did fine work fighting that machine-ghost in possession of my Lord Balderich's armor. I understand you are the first Overwatch recruit in many years? I am proud to have you fight under our name."

"You guys are gonna make me blush," you say. "How are you holding up, old timer?"

"A few cut and bruises." He receives a stern glance from Mercy. "Perhaps a little more. It could have been much worse, but you dispatched our enemies with impressive efficiency. That is quite the compliment you see, coming from a German." He laughs. "You should have seen it, Angela! Bastion units rising from the dead, like my tale of Dr. Junkenstein come to life!"

"That was some scrap we got into back there," you admit. "But together we pulled it off."

"We claimed glorious victory!" shouts Reinhardt, pumping his fist, then wincing. "Ach--"

Angela tsks. "Honestly, Reinhardt. How many times must I tell you to mind your stitches?"

Reinhardt lowers his fist meekly. "Ja, frau doktor. Our recruit here was luckier than me. Although if I remember right, that one Omnic gave you a good punch in the mouth, hah hah!"

You rub the sore spot on your jaw. "Yeah, thanks for reminding me."

Mercy says, "You were injured? Let me have a look at you." She gets up and moves towards you. She stops right in front of you, examining your face where you rubbed at your jaw. "Where does it hurt?"

You're taken aback by this, an unexpected and up-close inspection by an intensely beautiful blonde woman. "Uhhhhhere?" you say, hoping your voice didn't up up too high at the end there.

Mercy observes your injury for a few moments. You try not to panic, or stare at her too intensely. What are you supposed to do in this situation--?

"Minor hematoma," she says. "I can give you an ice pack, if you'd like."

Now's not the time to be a showoff. "I'll take it, thanks."

Mercy goes to her medkit, brings out a small bag of blue gel. "It's dynamically thermo-regulated," she says, returning to you. "Which is a fancy way of saying it will change to be the temperature that will best reduce pain and swelling. Just hold it next to the affected area."

You hold the ice pack onto your jaw, and feel the pack shift from room temperature to a brisk but pleasant chill. "Neat. Thanks."

"So," you say. "Take care of what you needed to in Switzerland?"

"I did, yes. I have some capable assistants who should be able to pick up some of my work load. The University was not so prepared to be flexible, but in the end I convinced them."

"How did you get here, anyway? Did someone pick you up in the Aurora?"

"I hired a small private aircraft to take me out to the Spanish coast, and then a local fisherman brought me to a beach nearby. There's a hidden path through the cliffs that leads to the base. Fortunately the front door communicator still works, so Winston let me in. Otherwise I might have looked a bit foolish."

"Did you, er -- check to see if you had any trackers on you?"

Mercy smiles. "I'm no legendary criminal like yourself, according to your reputation. But I'm not entirely unwise in the ways of the world. I went over my clothes and luggage carefully. Even if that Spanish fisherman recognized who I am, and forgets how well I paid him, I didn't bring him to the exact beach. So I'm quite sure I haven't left a trail."

"Good to hear. Just making sure." Talon already knows where the base is, of course. But they might not be the only ones interested in learning about the new Overwatch.

Also, did she just call you a "legendary criminal"? That's good, right?

"Of course. Now if you'll excuse me, I must finish my work with my patient here. I'm sure we'll talk again soon, perhaps at dinner?"

"Right, that reminds me," you say. "One last question. We've been living off nutrient paste, protein bars, and bananas. Where can a guy get some real food around here?"

Angela smiles. "You're asking the right woman. I know a wonderful local grocery with air drone delivery ..."

You can send the drone to a nearby dead drop. I'm not too concerned with the logistics of your food supply, especially when the team is still just six people. The bio-replicator in the kitchen can easily create enough nutrient paste for everyone. It's just a question of actually enjoying food now and then.
>>
>>1002504
If making edible food is a problem can't somebody just find a way to incorporate the nutrient paste into actual meal recipes? Fuck, maybe we could it.
>>
>>1002551
>>1002504

I'd imagine the protein paste the replicator has been pushing out has the consistency of mashed tofu or baby food--it's bland, tasteless, but perfectly balanced for all you growing young Overwatch boys and girls.

If there's a way to make baby food palatable to a grown adult--other than perhaps making your own--, I've yet to see it. For a first food drop, we could possibly do with some spices--salt, allspice, black pepper, maybe tabasco sauce if we're desperate for a bolder flavor.

Notes on mission structure in Overwatch Quest:

Crisis points and potential Overwatch Agents will be found throughout the globe, often in the same places. These are stories that, without the MC's intervention, will continue down a certain path. The order you take these missions in, and your choices during them, are up to you. Once you get involved in a story, there's no set conclusion anymore. You're free to make your own choices, although I will encourage a certain through-line, what I consider to be the "baseline route."

It's difficult but not impossible to route lock yourself out of an agent. But waiting longer to recruit someone means you may find them in increasingly dire situations.

Crisis points are another matter entirely. Left unchecked, they may have major consequences to world events.

>Reaper
>Sombra (maybe)
>Junkrat
>Roadhog
Beyond that, you have to consider character rivalries or those with opposing ideologies (Symmetra vs. Lucio). Recruiting one risks alienating the other.
>>
>>1002943
I feel like Seeker would push for Lucio over Symmetra honestly.
>>
>>1002919

IIRC from the Roadhog and Junkrat comic, they'd like a slice of the justice and revenge pie against whatever Megacorporation it was that screwed them over in 'Straya.
>>
>>1002962
They were part of the ALF and were pissed the Omnics got given a swathe of land in the outback, so they blew up the Omnic factory. People are pretty sore from the Omnic war still and were not so keen to forgive and forget.

I hope we do get an Australia map soon
>>
>>1002961
We'd have to talk 76 out of his lone vigilante thing, McCree shouldn't take much convincing. Just have to bail him out of whatever trouble he's gotten himself into.
>>
>>1002989
For 76, I'd imagine it'd be similar to convincing Boone to join in New Vegas.
>>
>>1002989
S76 in his current state is militantly stubborn. Even if you went out of your way to bail him out, he likely wouldn't immediately join.

If we ever develope more into gravity/magnetism tech, we should absolutely look into a sort of thing where we keep really small metalic objects on hand and use them as last-ditch weaponry. The Mechs were originally unmanned. As resources dwindled, however, the mechs were fitted with cockpits and, as capable pilots were becoming harder to come by, teenage video gamers were put into service for their quick reaction times and twitch reflexes.

Hana was drafted into the ROK's mecha program at sixteen, I think, and by the time of the games she's been fighting for around three years.

Scary; er hang-on the mech's were originally unmanned? Wouldn't that have left them vulnerable to omnics hijacking them by hacking them or just uploading themselves too the robots?

Hey i could point out how, if your running out of resources, you would automate them to cut down instead of spending more on them by adding a pilot; but i'm willing to swallow that much bullshit.
>>
>>1004164
>>1004173

That's pretty much what happened, actually. In lore, the Omnic that came around to smash South Korea hijacked the drone control network for the mechs--which led to the ROK armed forces to fit the mechs with cockpits and the aforementioned teenager recruitment drive.

You know I just realized something. D.Va's only combat experience is against Omnics, which she streams. But what's going to happen when she's forced to kill other people?Something tells me that she'd have a breakdown if that situation comes up.
The same issue comes up with Lucio too, he may have fought against Vishkar but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to kill anyone, human or omnic.

Isn't he technically a combat pacifist?

He'll fight for sure but he won't take a life willingly.

Mercy doesn't exactly have a background in Psychology, but I think she should be able to provide some rudimentary counselling should any of our team need it after a difficult op--hope so, anyway.

Otherwise, this is an excellent point toward grabbing Zenyatta. He could serve as a chaplain for the unit--the spiritual center to help keep everyone's heads in the fight and air any baggage that would otherwise get stamped down under internalized guilt and copious amounts of alcohol and/or drugs.
>>
>>1004487
Wasn't D.Va's unit wiped out at some point? Doesn't she have some heavily-masked PTSD somewhere in there?
>>
>>1004629
I haven't been able to find anything that actually says she even has a unit. Are you sure you're not thinking of Pharah?

Also, have some cut D.va audio

>>

When Bandit was a kid he dressed as an Overwatch agent every Halloween in fact he still has an adult size Overwatch agent costume saved up. Now that he's actually part of Overwatch he has no idea what he'll do for Halloween.

>>1005286
>"Maybe I should dress up as Reaper?"

Well if we're going with the bully D.Va thing, we could dress up as box D.Va and act super obnoxious while we spout gamer lingo.

Have any of the events from the Overwatch trailers happened yet?

Just to get a time frame, I know that we personally witnessed the Hero trailer with 76, but have events like the attempt to steal the Doomfist or the death of Mondatta happened yet?
>>

Anyone got that one panel of Squirrel girl explaining why she likes happy superhero comics over the broody ones?
>>
>>1005414
All the cinematic trailers have already happened. Mondatta is dead, the Japanese brothers momentarily reunited, etc.

What are they children? If they don't like working together, tough titties is not about them. They can help Overwatch help people, or they can continue sitting on their asses twiddling their thumbs being beaten down because they don't have any back up. Plus if I remember what happened in her comic correctly. Symmetra didn't like what she was doing for Vishkar.

So what do you guys think of the new map? It even gave us some lore to use.
>Oasis is set in the Arabian desert in Iraq. It is a technologically advanced city founded by scientists who wanted to push the boundaries of human science. They accomplished this by turning an inhospitable desert into a thriving settlement. The Vishkar Corporation desires to have a presence in the city.
