Let's get it on.

=======

As you enter the arena, it is extremely quiet. You look up and around to admire the architecture and what improvements you might make to it when you become ruler. Your guards have taken the fallen paladin back to your lair, where your apprentice will lock her of any latent magic Landra might still hold on to.

You look into the main floor of the arena to see Lady Axtia kneeling in front of her broken sword. Lord Mayben nurses a wounded arm as he looks at Axtia with pitiful eyes. Axtia looks defeated, her eyes staring at her sword. A man still sits in the stands, writing something in his notebook as he stands. He gives you a smile before walking away. "Some fight. A message to everyone regarding these fights for power..." The man walks out without saying another word.

Axtia slowly looks up towards the stands and then notices you. Her eyes dart back to the ground in shame. With your senses, you can feel what she whispers.

"I can't keep doing this..."

Mayben shakes his head.

"You must, if our kingdom is to survive..."

He walks away from Axtia, limping as he does so.
=======
The arena is completely empty as Axtia joins in the stands. She is silent at first. The wind quietly whistling as she searches for her next words.

"How?"

He question almost brings a smile to your face.

>All I need is for you to do what you once did before. Help the people.
>The people are ready for a change in leadership. What you did in the arena has moved them, you can feel it.
>A pint of blood and your house's support.

So did they stage this fight, or did Axtia throw it on purpose? Then why the death enchantment on Mayben's sword?

"I... I granted him mercy and the crowd booed. Then, my anger took a hold of me and everything went black. When I regained my senses, the crowd looked disgusted with themselves. Perhaps..." She looks up to you and begins to stand. "Perhaps it is time to remind the people what we were before the wars, before Queen Azletia." She clears her throat.

"If this is to be done, I ask that you allow me to understand what you are planning. I will prepare to move whatever resources you need to make this happen." She quietly says, not knowing if the arena is truly empty. "House Axtia will help you in whatever way you need, as well as our lesser houses."

With that, she smiles at you and begins to walk out of the arena.
=======
It is close to mid day by now, restaurants near by begin to beckon others to dine within their halls. Without your guards around, many nobles do not give you much glance as they walk past you. Perhaps some have heard of the small incident with your guards and dare not incur her wrath.

The Crypt of Heroes seems to have allowed others to view the corpses of the recently dead hero and his party. You can't hear much of what this hero was in life, but you can definitely hear has left in death. Gold and jewels from his party's last adventure before the war has much controversy around it. Some say that it should be spent to rebuild the lower parts of the city, where the hero was from. Others believe that a statue must be built to remember his great deeds. The Queen, however, says that it was all promised to her. You hear that there is a large gathering outside the crypt that is debating this issue right now.

The Noble Gardens seems to have played host to a very roguish figure. His words sway even the most cold hearted of women and they are flocking to his side. He has slain ten men in honorable duels to reclaim their women and seems to be ready to take his leave soon, if the angry mob of men will allow him to.

Of course, that paladin, Landra, may have awoken by now. She may have information that could prove beneficial to gaining some insight into how she found you. The witch they took with them may also provide information as to how she was able to shield a deal spell from the prying eyes of others.

=======

The front of the crypt is filled with people arguing.

"The queen has enough money! Disperse the wealth, I say!" Says a large man as he raises up his walking cane.

"Without the peasantry to work our fields, how will we eat? I can only dine on caviar for so long!" Says a younger woman, her servant wincing at her words.

As you edge towards the entrance to the crypt, a young man hands you a small token. You look over to him as he winks and pats his purse.

"Even us common folk should be able to see the hero." He says with a grin.
=====

The crypt itself is grand. Small statues of those who were buried here stand in chronological order with descriptions of what each hero did to deserve a place here in the crypt, as well as small rooms that hold each body. Some hold companions, while others hold weapons depicting how many people aided this hero. Aided the army in destroying a manticore, died in his sleep years later. Hero of Hell's Furnace, died from her wounds days later. Each one a hero in the eyes of the people.

As you delve deeper into the crypt, you begin to see small dips in heroism. Saved a noblewoman from certain death, died from exhaustion. Lifter of Spirits, missing in action. Finally, you come to the more recent deaths and finally, to the most popular one of date. The entrance to the hero's grave is guarded by three men. Each man is heavily armored and seems to take their duties seriously. When you approach one, he extends out his hand.

"Token?" He asks in a gruff manner. You hand him the token and he steps aside.

The party has yet to be fully buried. All party members are still in their adventuring gear and their appearance seems to be preserved due to magical wards.

The main hero seems to be a young human, though on closer inspection, it would seem he had some elven blood within him. His ears are slightly more pointed than a humans and his face and figure are more lithe compared to most. On his chest rests a sword and shield, his left hand gripping both sword and shield while his right holds the hand on an elven sorceress. The elf seems to be of drow origin and her staff seems to be of high elf craft. Both descriptions read...

"ENEMIES IN THE BEGINNING, LOVERS TILL THE END. THEIR LOVE KNEW NO BOUNDS, NOT EVEN ANCIENT RIVALRIES COULD STOP THEM."

To the right of the sorceress lays a dwarf male, his hammer bearing the symbol of a long lost order of clerics. His armor is bone grey while his holy symbol is marble white. To the left of the fighter lay two gnomish rouges, one male, one female. A brother and sister duo who seem to carry a single dagger. Both daggers are similar in make and design, but from the hilt of one hangs a rabbit's foot while the other hangs a penny.

You decide it would be best to come back at a later date. It would seem that the bodies will be on display for longer than planned. As a small group of mages enter the room, one complains about the stench of death in the air as he passes.

"I'll need to recheck every ward and glyph in this place again. The people are hear to view heroes, not corpses." He grumbles.

You look down at your hands and notice that your disguise is slowly coming apart. With all the excitement with your engagement with Landra and the witch, your magic must have began to cause your disguise spell to decay. You quickly reapply your disguise and walk out of the crypt, the debate is still going on with neither side wanting to back down from their positions.

The Noble Gardens is still abuzz with rumors of a man that is known to enchant women with a single word. His has accumulated a small gathering of courtesans and young noblewomen. The men that was barring his way was quickly dispersed as he fell upon them with unnatural grace. It seems your old apprentice is hovering around the gardens as well, keeping his presence a secret.

You can always return to your lair to question your new prisoners.

=======
Before getting close to the garden, you see your apprentice pacing outside a small book shop. A few creatures hold books or small trinkets as Kalmedus mumbles to himself. He looks up and nods his head at you before pacing again.

"Mmm, a being of darkness... Perhaps you can... No, maybe not. If this goes south..." He growls before looking out towards the gardens.

"Incubus. A fairly new one, arrogant. Knows nothing of subtly. Perhaps you can use him for your scheme?" He says as a woman walks out of the garden. Kalmedus scoffs as he waves his hand dismissively at an imaginary person. The woman seems blissful as she stumbles out of the garden. You use your sight to see that this woman's soul has been drained from her body. The woman knocks into a light pole and begins to laugh maniacally before taking a few steps towards you, gleefully smiling. She stops as she points as her eyes roll back into her head.

"Ah, my lovely guest. Meet me in the cafe called The Crystal Lake. I wish to ICANFEELHIMINMYSOUL meet with you." The woman's voice drifts from male to female. Kalmedus rolls his eyes at the outburst in between her sentences.

"Feh, primal power without a focus is as useless as a bag with holes. A pup can bark, but has no bite. But, a pup with master can learn to bite. Untapped potential, but I care not." Kalmedus says as he shakes his head. "Queen Azletia requires this problem to be dealt with. I can cover up, but up to you what you want to do."

>I'll meet with this devil. Perhaps there is potential within him.
>I do not have need to take a devil under my wing. If I go, I go to destroy him so he may be out of my hair.
>A devil? This is beneath me. He is up to you to deal with, Kalmedus. I am returning to my home tonight.

Kalmedus nods his head and points towards the small lake located in the garden.

"The cafe is located on the opposite side." Kalmedus says as he waves his hand. The creatures below him begin to run to the outskirts of the garden, placing small crystals on the floor.

"I don't want anymore of these things to go into the city. The nobles would complain and I would get yelled at. I dislike noblemen telling how to do my job. Deal with the creature and I will meet you within the garden soon. I have to make magical words to make it seem as though I am working." Kalmedus says as he focuses on the woman swaying in the breeze. She begins to seize as she begins to burn to a crisp. Kalmedus looks back at you and smiles.
======

The garden it self is a very serene place. Birds chirp in the distance, you can hear small animals moving around in the trees as well. Its the people that aggravate you. The women of this devil's magic laugh and dance in a erotic way, their souls stripped away. As you get closer to the cafe, you begin to see that they are all now watching you. They grow silent as their eyes roll back into their heads.

"I await you within... Lich." The women say in unison as they disperse. "Oh, do not think of destroying the cafe before hearing what I have to say. It may interest you." One woman says before walking away.

>Don't tell me what to do. Destroy the cafe.
>Enter the cafe. I might as well listen to what you have to say before I destroy you.

"Unless you come out of that building." You begin as you look towards the women. "I guess I'll claim these soulless vessels as my own."

You focus part of your power into each vessel, filling the hole left by the incubus. You can feel his hold on them waning as you begin to gain control of each woman that you can see. Filling them with dark energy, especially from your own energy, eliminates whatever life force they had left. Now, they are nothing more than undead thralls under your control. Suddenly, you hear the door open behind you.

"My my, aren't you a pushy one?" A voice comes from behind you. You turn to face the source of the voice and you immediately revert back to your original form. You now see a man, flanked by two women who are bleeding from their eyes with a fanatical grin on their faces. The man is in a white suit with a red tie, his long hair tied into a pony tail. His eyes are black while his iris is blood red. He looks up at you and smirks.

"And here I thought we'd have a civilized discussion, but I guess not." The man says as he takes a long whip from inside his jacket and an orb from his back pocket. The whip is slick with blood that doesn't seem to stain his suit and the orb, once the size of a marble, grows in the palm of the devil's hand. The orb holds the souls of the women he had preyed upon.

"So, I'll get right to the point. I know that you have, under your tutelage, a young woman you may know as Maila. You don't need to know why, I just want her. If you give her to me, I'll be out of your hair before long. If not, well..." The incubus smirks and snaps his whip horizontally in front of you, slicing the heads of both women clean off. You can see what is left their souls being stripped away into the orb.

"Because, my good sir, I know your secret. I know what you plan, as well. Imagine if we do actually fight, and we WILL fight if my simple demand is not met. How big of a fight do you think we'll have? A small one where you kill me, the bodies of these undead women are found, and rumors of a lich residing in town begin to spread? Or, do you think, we'll have a big old brawl with paladins, mages, and knights flooding into the city to kill the both of us and your plans are foiled before they even began?" He smirks as he floats into the air.

"You won't even miss her, I swear. I'll wisk her away and you won't even see me in this little kingdom ever again." He tosses his orb into the air. It floats down to eye level and begins to spin.

"Hell, I'll even throw in another promise." The orb begins to crack as you hear the souls of women within. "With all the souls within this orb, its enough to control the mind of any mortal being you wish. Hell, with even more souls, you'll be able to create a devil of your own choosing. Perhaps a succubus to fill out your all female battle buddies? It's a good deal."

The Incubus begins to float around you.

"A lich, as they say, always wants more power. Imagine the power you can gain from this orb, compared to some sorceress you call an apprentice? All you need to do is summon her here. As soon as you bring her here, I'll be on my merry way and leave my orb. A devil never lies."

The Incubus finally floats in front of you and give you a wide grin. He extends his hand outwards.

"So, do we have a deal?"

>>2184107
>kill him, and return the souls to their mortal shells, even if some souls dont return to the right bodies.
Should be easy enough for the "archmage" we are
>>
>>2184147
Don't want to.
>>
>>2184158
Demons just make things more complicated. and forced mind control isn't something we should be using too much. It's less reliable than voluntary devotion.
>>
>>2184178
Both of those are poor excuse in the context of this quest and the souls already gathered are worth more than the good will of the populace. Remember we are powerful because of our use of souls and a straight fight is likely to reveal us.
>>
>>2184195
Not if we're quick and not waste time trying for mind control.
And souls are easy enough to get. The land is rife with plague and poverty. There are going to be plenty of street rats no one cares about. Also, I doubt he has a little bag of souls for us to steal anyways- he probably eats the soul bits he takes.
>>
>>2184195
Thats why i want to return the souls of those women. We would be hailed as a hero, which would allow us to gain control over the masses, our cover wont be blown, and we dont really need souls right now, and even then, we can gain more souls later on, when the town falls under our power
>>
>>2184210
>Returning souls
Why? At this point it sounds like you want to make this a quest about being good rather than being a proper villain. We don't need to tell them about the souls.
>We don't need souls
When we the playerbase have no idea how the setting works? That's a smart thing to say when we became a lich using souls in the first becoming a god will likely require more souls.
>>2184207
>Quick
It's not going to be quick. Mind control is the quick option. Fighting is going to be a long and drawn out affair no matter what.
>>
>>2184232
Fighting is also more final than mind control. No loose ends that can come back to bite us. I want nothing to do with demons because nothing good can come from them.
And we're a master class wizard. We should be able to sling spells subtly. Wizard duels aren't just fireballs and lightning bolts.
>>
>>2184246
We could just kill him while he's mind controlled. Straight up fighting is going to be messy.
>>
>>2184232
We need to take this guy out now! He's making a mockery of us acting like we don't have a choice. Bend this boy to our will than throw him in the cloning chair. Set it to kill if that's a thing.
>>
>>2184232
I want to return the souls not only because it brings unwanted attention, but because we can make it to further our short term goal of taking control of the town/kingdom/whatever. Not returning the souls will mean that after we kill the demon, all the women he took control of, will fall comatose on the spot, yielding no net gain for us, other than some lousy souls that we can obtain easily trough other less obvious means.

Think it like this; why take the souls of some women right now, when we can effortlesly reap the whole town later on?

The idea is not to be evil for the sake of being evil. That will backfire on us quick. We have to be smart AND evil.
>>
>>2184246
Also we got to where we are partially because of demons and we aren't good.
>>
>>2184259
We don't know how the setting works to be able to make calls like that. I didn't even realize that torturing the paladin involved destroying his soul.

While it hasn't been explicitly stated the MC has been implied to have used demons to further his goals. Saying that we should never use demons is like saying we should never a sword or never make use of a resource. It limits our options and available tools.

His mind is like steel, almost as though he was expecting something like this to happen. However, his wall that he had put up has cracks. Cracks that no mere mortal could find or exploit.

But cracks that a lich can exploit.

"Oh, that's just mean." The Incubus says as the cracks in his barrier begin to fill up. You can barely see him twitch as he backs up. He snaps his whip and laughs loudly.

"I guess we're just to play things by ear. Let us dance this glorious dance of death, my dear lich! In the end, I still win either way. Your plans are foiled if I die and I get Maila if I live! Win win for me!" The Incubus says. You begin to hear a sickening snap and crunch from behind The Incubus as his wings begin to unfold from behind him. They drip with blood and ichor as the wings shiver. The orb flies back into his hand as it begins to glow green and black. You can feel power pouring from the Incubus as he rises into the air.

You show no emotion as he attempts to intimidate you with his power. You don't even show any signs of resistance as he attempts to goad you into attacking first with small spells that scrape at your armor. You see that this is beginning to aggravate him horribly.

"A fight requires both parties to attack each other, Lich! So, fight!" He yells as he flies around you. You just watch him fly around.

"This is it?" You ask, coldly as you stare his square in the eyes. He hesitates for a moment before landing in front of you.

"I-I can fly out to the city and tell everyone your secret, then! This city will be filled with holy warriors just itching to take a crack at you." He stammers as he yells.

"Too much talking. I thought that you would be a challenge, that you would offer me something that I would actually have to think about. There is no reason for me to give away any of my pawns, especially to a lower level devil." The air begins to freeze around you.

"Perish."

Before the Incubus has enough time to respond to you, he finds himself frozen to the ground. No, not frozen, something is grabbing him. Skeletal hands before to drag the Incubus down into the ground, each skeletal hand freezing a part of the Incubus. His wings are frozen solid as a skeletal hand grabs his whip and pulls it down. His eyes dart from you to the ground as he tries to fight against the undead forces pulling him underneath the ground.

"No." He whimpers out. "This isn't how this ends! I... No, please! I don't want to die! I-I can be helpful! Here!" The Incubus throws the orb out onto the ground. Longer arms begin to appear from the ground and grab his shoulders.

"I-I can show you how to summon others! I can bring you souls to feast on! Please, just-" He is waist deep before a hand juts out and begins to pull down on his jaw. He screams in pain as you can hear flesh tear and bone snap. One last squeal comes from his mouth before he is buried alive, unable to move due to his body being frozen. Then, you see is essence beginning to go to another realm.

"I did not say you could return to you place of origin. I said perish." You say as you dismissively wave you hand. You see his essence squirming and shaking before dissipating into oblivion.

You pick up the orb and recall what he said. If he is to be trusted, this orb could be useful. On the other hand, who knows what spells he had placed upon this orb. But for now, perhaps you should quickly make your way back to your lair.

"My lord." Kalmedus says as he pushes away one of your thralls. He looks down at the frozen ground and sneers at it. "Arrogance. He deserved it." He looks back up at you.

"I have created a story to cover up the events that have transpired here. But, one questions remains." He looks out to the small horde of the undead. "What of them."

You focus upon the orb as it begins to levitate in the palm of your hand. The souls inside scream for release and know what you will soon give it to them. The undead thralls begin to circle around you, reaching for the orb, yearning for their souls to return to their bodies. You begin to speak in a dark tongue as the souls begin to exit the orb and circle above your head. Suddenly, they begin to dart into their own bodies. The thralls react, as if being hit with an arrow through the chest. They fall limp upon the ground as you begin to notice that their hearts are beginning to beat once again. Kalmedus kneels down next to one and feels her pulse.

"They live, my lord. They will take a moment for them to recover, but they will live." Kalmedus looks back up to you and takes in your true form. He nods and looks up to the sky.

"Yes... I will do what you ask..." He looks back to you and stands.

"It would seem my master require me to play the role of the student once again. If you will have me, I would like to serve under you once again, Master." Kalmedus bows, putting his hand to his chest as he does so.

"But, a more important matter..." The women begin to stir as Kalmedus looks out towards the small horde of women. "What now?"

I am no young hero, righting wrongs, falling in love with a companion who was my enemy, or being the shield of the downtrodden, like that young one lying in the tomb.

We can use both stories. We lived here long ago, now we've returned for the nostalgia factor; living isolated in our tower has made us unaware of the world changes.seeing how our hometown is, we've decided to return more often, so we can make a lasting impact.

"Th-Thank you..." She whispers to you.

It is night time now, most of the noblemen and women have gone back to their homes. Shops are beginning to close down for the night while others simply change their shifts.

The crypt, if you are lucky, may not have anyone guarding the entrance to the crypt. It may be a perfect time to examine the corpses of the heroes more closely and decide what to do with them.

Landra, the fallen paladin, is probably up and screaming. Knowing your apprentice, she has probably teased and goaded Landra into attempting to cast spells. The witch, however, may still be alive, depending on whether or not she complied with the clones.

Last one for the night
=======
The grave the crypt sit within is serene, almost. The whistling of the wind reminds you of times spent in local graveyards, attempting to raise the dead. As you enter the crypt, you see the caretakers leaving. One turns to you and shakes his head.

"You don't want to be locked in here at night, old man. The guards will just leave you to rot till morning, they've done it before." The man says as he walks past.
=======
"You again? You lose something?" One guard asks.

"His sanity, most likely." The other guard chuckles to himself.

You dismiss their remarks and enter the room. You hear the door close behind you and a lock being turned. They have locked you within this room.

"Have fun viewing the dead, you old coot!" A guard laughs as you hear footsteps walking away from you.

Good, you needed the quiet and solitude. Now then, how to resurrect them?

You could always bring them back with their memories intact. Since they are adventurers, it would be easy to turn them into death knights under you command. A few incantations here, a few runes there, and you can have a party of 5 death knights at your disposal.

There is also the choice of simply teleporting their bodies back to your lair for further inspection. Perhaps there is an experiment that you could perform that could use corpse parts.

There is also just resurrecting these heroes, as an act of good will towards the kingdom. They would hail you as a hero and the party would most likely thank you for bringing them back to help the kingdom rebuild.

>Death Knights
>Lair with corpses
>Resurrection.
>Other
>>
>>2185319
As death knights, how well could they pretend to be raised in the correct manner?
>>
>>2185319
What kind of stuff could we do in the lair with the corpses?
>>
>>2185319
>teleport them to the lair.

We can conduct all the other experiments back on our lair. We might be even capable of cloning them or something like that.
>>
>>2185319
We could resurrect them with memories intact, but there's always the possibility that they are content with being dead and would be angered at us for reviving them. But if that happens, we can always kill them and send their soul back to where it was and use their corpse parts for whatever experiment we need them for - so I suppose it's a win-win for us either way.

The order is simple
>revive all of them with memories intact
>see if any of them are content with staying dead
>kill and resend the ones that are, collect their parts
>the ones that aren't content, are free to go do whatever to help their kingdom out
>>
>>2185388
If we're quick enough, we can clone them, kill the clones, and put the clones in the original's place so no one knows we did anything.
>>
>>2185397
How much time does the cloning takes? I suppose it would take like one day or so.

>>2185394
Does it really matters if they are happy for being returned to life? They serve under us either way. Either way, we should extract all their memories, to see what useful spells or locations they have(specially loot).
>>
>>2185394
Second
>>
>>2185394
They're too useful to have to keep in the dark about everything. I fwe could raise them so they are inherently loyal to use, I would agree to that, but raising them as they were and trying to manipulate them behind their back seems more trouble than it's worth, especially if they find out anything and turn on us.
>>
>>2185434
>>2185422
What if we could make them inherently loyal to us and do whatever we want them to, but we let them go free and not ask anything of them except helping the kingdom?
>>
>>2185434
Well, unless resurection spells/rituals arent /that/ hard, they will be on high alert and will we wondering why we brought them back.
>>
>>2185319

Take enough samples to feed into the Cloning Vats, and raise them as Death Knights.
Best if the bodies remain here and visible, and the taking of the samples unnoticed.
>>
>>2185319
>Death Knights
>Lair with corpses
One of these two then
>>
>>2185479
Only the originals work for the death knight thing as far as I understand.
>>
>>2185451
If we could make them loyal to us, even though they know the truth about what we are and what we plan, then sending them off to foster good will and such is a good idea. but trying to trick them for an indefinite amount of time will likely bite us in the ass.

>>2185460
Probably true. Which makes trying to fool them even more dificult. If they get raised, and are then loyal, then we can do away with any pretense and just have them publically go with any story we want them to feed the public. I imagine this isn't their first rodeo in dealing with bad people trying to be good.
>>
>>2185480
Well, we could have any other corpse replacing them and then use a disguise spell on said corpses so they look like the dead heroes. Or clone them, and kill the clones, but that would depend on how much it takes for the cloning process to complete.
>>
>>2185487
I guess we can go with my plan of "revive them, have them loyal to us while also keeping their own free will, send them out to do whatever good they want, replace their corpses with disguised fakes" like >>2185491 said? Is everyone good with this?
>>
>>2185507
Well, first we need to leave some "replacements" just in case, unless we dont care that the people in the morning will see that their heroes remains dissapeared.
>>
>>2185507
If we're sending them out as themselves, no point cloning and replacing the bodies. But if we can make them loyal, then yeah, its a good plan. We can recall them if we ever need them to do something specific for us.
>>
>>2185516
We have some guards that are assholes conveniently nearby. I'm sure going by what the caretaker said, they won't be missed. All this "do-gooding" is to further our future goals - we didn't spend a hundred years of effort becoming a lich to spend eternity helping out humanity out of our own pocket.

>>2185525
Then I guess we just revive, bind to loyalty, then let them free to go while we get back to base?
>>
>You could always bring them back with their memories intact. Since they are adventurers, it would be easy to turn them into death knights under you command. A few incantations here, a few runes there, and you can have a party of 5 death knights at your disposal.
This means Death Kinght guarantees loyalty.
>>
>>2185529
Ok, but just before letting them go in to the wild, lets see how hard it is to revive someone. People might be scared by them or might be tempted to lynch them just because the act of reviving someone is an 'evil' act.
>>
>>2185537
We can still guarantee their loyalty and intact memories and simply let them free to go. This gives us a resource to call on in the future if we need them for something, while also strengthening our rep.

>>2185550
That's up to QM to decide how hard it is. But yeah I'd rather the heroes we revive dont get instalynched the moment they walk out of the crypt.
>>
>>2185552
Well, i believe we should have prior knowledge of it, since we are a lich and bringing people bacl to life is our main shtick. I think that's information that should be available to us.
>>
>>2185537
Probably, but if Deathknight means they're unnaturally pale, have glowing eyes, and all thier magic is now death themed, it's not really the best option for us.
>>
>>2185552
We are already in position to gain as much as we want once we enact the plan to overthrow the queen and the heroes are likely to complicate things.
>>
>>2185568
Unless they take our side because the queen is 'evil and oppresses their people too much'
>>
>>2185566
And the other isn't much better since we have no idea if they'll fuck things up for us.
>>
>>2185568
They can't complicate shit if they're compelled to be loyal to us and any thoughts of disloyalty get instantly quelled.

>>2185575
That too.

>>2185566
If they looked creepy as fuck, but they are 100% devoted to doing good during a time of plague and people dropping like flies and mass suffering and disparity, then the populace is gonna have to fucking shut up and deal with it.
>>
How'd they die again? If anything keeping they're memory but having them loyal to us is the best option. It's always good to have more people to talk to. And they could train our clones in combat.
>>
>>2185575
If they manage to tame her stupidity we lose out on taking over the kingdom. We need to aggravate the situation so the queen gets overthrown and our puppet takes her place.
>>
>>2185592
Well, in that case we can take control of the queen herself. We already have access to her via our old apprentice. From there it will just be a matter of time to bend her to our will. Then again, that shouldnt happen because the heroes will be under our control.
>>
>>2185587
Death Knight is the loyalty with the memories intact option. Rezing them guarantees nothing
>>
>>2185601
If deathknight them they are under our control. If you don't they are not.
>>
>>2185609
Oh yeah, i had misread that part. In that case we could revive them, knock them out(maybe mess with their minds while they are out) and clone them. We end up with a similar advantage as the dreadknight and we have the goodwill of the people. Win win.
>>
>>2185601
If that's the case why even bother to rez them at all? Death Knighting give them a power boost and ensures our control.
>>
>>2185621
I think you're a bit dense. I doubt such a convoluted is viable.
>>
>>2185622
Optics for deathknights suck though.
The local paladin order might put a kill on sight order for they undead monstrosities made by some foul dark wizard, defiling the rest of once great heroes.
>>
>>2185621
And no we get none of the benefits of death knight since it's benefits are for most part exclusive.
>>
>>2185638
And? We're going to wage war at some point and the church will crusade against us eventually.
>>
So it's DeathKnights + memories back + free to go?
>>
>>2185642
It doesn't help us if
1. They know someone is doing dark shit
2. They immediately kill our death knights because death knights are bad

We're waging war eventually, but we aren't ready now, and won't be with 5 death knights.
>>
>>2185632
Hey, im just giving out options. We wont know if they work until we try them.
>>
>>2185649
There's dead bodies everywhere we can dump into the vats. We could get an army overnight.
What we lack however are elite units.
>>
>>2185656
But on that same vein, do we need powerful people to create deathknights, or will any random body do?
>>
>>2185656
and 5 is not enough.
And clones take time. Raising death knights now puts us on a clock, that we don't have enough time to prepare for.
>>
>>2185605
How about this. Rez one. Than if it doesn't turn out well. Death Knight them all.
>>
>>2185667

>>
>>2185669
Then store them for later. Hell the heroes bodies going missing might be enough to tip the peasants over the edge and revolt.
>>
>>2185686
The bodies disappearing might also be something that allows the crown to invent an enemy to rally the people against. Don't fight the crown, fight the corpse thieves, as they defile our heroes.
>>
>>2185686
We'll blame it on the rich nobles. Saying they want the money for the gardens or some crap.

Also something that Kitty History doesn't cover is that the media is effectively brainwashing the populace 24 to 7 and environment factors are keeping them docile. Medieval era and modern era are incomparable to each other.
>>
>>2185760
That doesn't matter. All that matters is that people died, Bush pointed a finger at someone, and people became less likely than ever to go against him.

>>2185781
You really think if the queen points a finger at someone, even a secret conspiracy, people won't go along with it? An enemy is just what the Queen needs to rally the people to her, because she can play the "united in tragedy" card and people won't go against it, because to do otherwise would be borderline treasonous.
>>
>>2185804
She's more of a Marie Antoinette than a George Bush. I don't think the people will go for what she has to say solely on the fact that the commoners hate her and so do some of the leading houses.

Someone in the current regime is probably smart enough to recognize the opportunity. There is no guarantee that this will drive the people against the Queen, and not give them a common foe.

It seems like a lot of people want to go the deathknight route. But, it's mainly just discussions right now.
=======
You begin to manifest your power out in front of you as you begin to chant. You cause the bodies to rise as their arms drop to their sides, weapons clattering to the floor.

"From the cold embrace of death, I call upon you, heroes. As you served the living in life, so too shall you serve me in death. Arise, death knights, and serve your new master!" You say as you send tendrils of dark energy above their bodies. You see ethereal versions of themselves being forced back into their bodies. White light begins to shine from their eyes and mouths. Your power begins to course through their veins as they begin to rotate so that they are no longer on their backs. You finish your chant and let them float to their feet. They stand there, eyes closed and swaying. Suddenly, the main hero opens his eyes. His eyes shine pale blue while his flesh begins to grow pale. He looks down at his hands and feels his chest.

"Ah, so even in death, I am not granted peace. So be it, my lord." He looks up to you with a grim face. The female drow next to him laughs as she touches a glowing scar on her throat. She smirks as she shivers.

"Such a terrifying experience. Who knew death would be so... Brutal. Chocking upon my own blood as my allies fly towards the enemy without giving any of us a second glance... Heroes indeed." She coldly says to herself. She looks up at you and bows. "I am yours to command, my lord. Point me towards the living so I may have them relive my pain."

The dwarf grunts and tears the holy symbol from his neck. "Protection of Torthal indeed. Abandoned me and my kin to certain death. Didn't even give me a wee bit of attention during the battle. Gave me nothing in death either except a warm embrace and an apology. And now, a lich gives me enough attention to raise me from the grave. You deserve my loyalty, my lord. I will crush the Church of Torthal under my heels, if you should so desire."

"Finally, death was boring!" One gnome says as he twirls a blade he pulled out from his armor. "We can have more fun with this guy, Middy." The gnome woman nods and does a small curtsy towards you. "Middy and Moddy, at your service, my lord! We don't care about who we kill, just as long its fun!" The gnomes laugh together.

Then, they all bow to you. "Our body and soul are yours, my lord. What is your command?"

Darkness begins to fill the room. Torches are put out as you can feel yourself being pulled out of reality. Light begins to seep in from the darkness and you are back in the laboratory. Here, you find your apprentice talking to her daughters. She looks at you and bows.

"My lord, the pitiful paladin is awaiting you in the dungeon. How was your... Expedition?" She asks as she looks to your death knights.

"My my, undead thralls. A good start to your army, Master. I'll set them to work around-" Maila says before one of your death knights grunts.

"Do not mistake us as simply zombies, whelpling. We are Master's death knights, his unholy champions. You will talk to us as such." The dwarf says as he steps forward. Maila kneels down and tugs on the dwarf's beard.

"I'll be sure to remember that, stunted one. oh, I mean, Champion of the Lich." Maila smirks as she teases the dwarf. He growls and clenches his fist.

"Drason, enough." The elven hero commands. The dwarf looks back and sighs. He walks back to the death knight group and folds his arms. "Are all elves this annoying?" The drow rolls her eyes as she looks to the hero. He bows and puts his fist to his chest.

"In life, I was known as Axton. My mother was an elf, my father was a human. I was skilled with a blade in life and so too in death. I served as a guardian to Meridian, the drow before you." He looks back to the drow and nods his head. He smiles slightly before looking back to you.

"In life, I was known as Meridian. In life, I was a sorceress trained by an order of long dead priestesses to use arcane and dark magics. I was ordered to kill Axton before he saved my life. I was his... Lover." Meridian bows her head as she speaks.

"Drason. In life, I served a weak god known as Thoral as a war cleric. But now, I serve you, my lord." Drason bows his head.

"Well, I'm, wait, I already told you this. Me and bro here joined up with Axton to have an adventure. Well, death wasn't an adventure, but you brought us back! We'll happily serve you now, your unholiness." Middy says as she curtsies again. Moddy huffs and folds his arms. "I wanted to introduce ourselves. You already told him our names, I should have told our story." Middy twirls around and points her finger at Moddy. "YOU would have rambled on and on about pointless stuff. Mom always said that I should be the talker." Moddy stammers and then turns away from her.

"None of you have any qualms about being brought back from your eternal rest?" You ask.

They all shake their heads.

"We only exist because of you, my lord." Axton says. "We will serve you until you no longer require our services."

>>Then, I have some question about the upper world. (ASK AWAY.)
who did you want all your treasures going to once you died?
Just how much do people dislike the queen?
Did you have any secret treasure troves hidden around anywhere? Any evil artifacts best left buried where you found them?

Can you appear less undead?

What happened to your earthly possessions.
what do you know about the world outside this kingdom.
are you familiar with (that noble we met on the coliseum).

Lets also take some of their blood or whatever they have remaining, and use it on the cloning vats. Lets see what spawns out.

"Our treasures... Well, we did not think so far ahead..." Axton hesitantly replies. "In life, we were eager to spend our gold on ourselves. I would have spent it on a ring for Meridian... But, we never really thought what would happen were we to die during our final battle."

"Foolish, we know. But, we thought ourselves invincible. We've taken on countless soldiers, demons, and even a black dragon. You have to admit," Drason smirks and rubs his beard. "we seemed unstoppable."

"As for the new queen... She is narcissistic, for lack of a better word. Many of the nobility look upon her with favor. She promised them their birthright, whatever the peasants farmed would be their reward for being noble. I'll let you guess how the peasantry felt about that. And as for secret troves?" Axton points upwards. "In the void. Or whatever the scholars call the void above our world. Meri had to teleport a horde of angry pirates up, and with it, most of our gold. We were going to try and bring them all back down into a vault before we... Expired." Axton says. The group looks to Meridian with varying looks. She shakes her head and sighs.

"It's not my fault. You all rushed me before I could properly cast the spell." Meridian says before putting her hands on her hips and turning her nose upwards.

"And all you had to do was teleport a bunch of smelly humans off the ship." Moddy replies.

"As for our appearance, "Axton interrupts before Meridian can reply to Moddy. "I do not know. It is our... First time being undead, my lord. Perhaps, with time, we can control our appearance to seem more alive."

>That's enough questions, for now. Go to your barracks and await my orders.

Two little updates:

I've updated the google doc to have a small description of each character that follows you. I can provide physical descriptions as well, if need be.

Secondly, I'll need to pop out soon. My next post will be my last for the night. Sorry for having to quit an hour early.

Please follow my twitter to keep up to date about any updates about the quest in general.

Miza is the elf we used for our first batch of clones.
>>2187456
Did you hear any rumors of any Rebel organizations that were building a following when you were alive?
How do people feel about resurrections? The proper kind where you come back as a living breathing person.

Moddy's eyes light up as he walks towards you.

"M-Miza is here?! Oh, I gotta go see her! I got so many stories to tell and she'll want to know about-" Moddy begins to ramble on about his exploits. Middy rolls her eyes and looks to you. "This is why we don't let him tell stories. He gets caught up in trying to say everything at once. Yeah, Miza used to be a girl me and Moddy knew back in the day. She was pretty sweet, we'd hang out in the park and talk about the adventures we'd love to have. When we got picked up by Axton here, she was happy for us... But, I could see in her eyes that she was going to miss us dearly." Middy looks towards the lab door and sighs. "I wonder if she's doing alright... Maybe..." She looks down at the ground and shakes her head.

"As for our abilities... I'm not so sure. I still retain my knowledge of my martial training. But, as for our spell casters..." Axton looks to Meridian and Drason. Drason shakes his head.

"My mind is clouded of any holy magics I once had... But, I can recall death magics that I never knew I memorized... Possibly because of my being an unholy creation of our lord." Drason scratches his head and grumbles. Meridian sets her fingers ablaze and curiously looks at the color of the flames. The flames burn green and black, something she did not anticipate.

"I still remember some spells, arcane and darkness spells... But there are other spells I do not remember having knowledge of." Meridian keeps looking at the flames on her fingers. Drason chuckles as he steps forward.

"My lord, there are still things I remember in life. Before meeting my demise, I trained the best warriors in my order and many of my cadets are still alive after the war. That counts for something, I guess." Drason laughs as he flexes his muscles. "I can turn a pack of milk drinking girls into battle hardened men, given enough time."

"As for resurrections... Only those of the highest birth can be expected to be raised once again... I'm not sure why the king has not been returned. He offered his body and soul to the kingdom to forever serve it. I suspect this is the queen's doing. As for rebellions, this is the first we've heard of such a thing. All we know is that the queen took over when the king died. We thought it was to keep the kingdom with a leader till King Rand could be resurrected." Axton explains.

"That is all I need. You may go to the barracks to rest. I will have the automatons create room for you." You say. Your death knights bow as they leave the room.

"Resurrections... Huh, never thought this kingdom would ever use such a type of magic." Maila says as she walks to your side.

>It matters not. Soon, this kingdom and all its power and knowledge will be mine.
>Do I detect a hint of jealousy? While you are skilled in the use of dark magics, necromancy was never your forte.
>I must look more into this matter... I would think the holy orders would protest to raising the dead.
>>
>>2187456
>Questions
Did they hear any rumors about us, or a Lich, in the kingdom?
This isn’t narcissism but wanting to know what potential enemies will know.
>>
>>2187591
>>It matters not. Soon, this kingdom and all its power and knowledge will be mine.

Also what a coincidence. We have a pack of milk drinking girls who need to be taught a lot.
>>
>>2187591
>Do I detect a hint of jealousy? While you are skilled in the use of dark magics, necromancy was never your forte.
Uh, what are we going to do about the alarm that will be raised when the disappearance of the heroes’ bodies is discovered?

And we were seen entering the tomb right before it happened.
>>
>>2187591
>Do I detect a hint of jealousy? While you are skilled in the use of dark magics, necromancy was never your forte.
Tease her about it, in that "I'm not sure if he's teasing me or being serious" way. Then follow up with
>It matters not. Soon, this kingdom and all its power and knowledge will be mine.

Also holy fuck, >>2187610 is right. How are we going to handle that sort of evidence?
>>
>>2187743
We we need to find substitutes, either by cloning a copy of each, or finding people who are close enough. in appearance, and killing them.
>>
>>2187830
Well we can clone them and kill the clones, teleport their bodies up there, drop them off and teleport back. They'll be glad to give us their blood, or whatever genetic material they might still have on their bodies.
>inb4 we get seen the moment we appear up there

We can twist it to our side. (Using another disguise)We can blame the queen for their dissapearences, use the house we have to support us and maybe use mild mass hypnotics or the mind mage to help sway the population to our side.

Thank you.

Alrighty, I got back really late. I'll put this on the archive right now/

Please remember that I have a twitter where I post updates about the thread. The google doc is there in case people forget names, since we do have a fairly large and growing cast of characters.

Thank you for taking part in this quest.

>>2190384
Can we also get a dump of what we remember about local culture and society, that the character would know?

Thanks for running, happy new year!
