The labratory is silent and unmarred by the scars of battle. It's almost eerily silent as you look upon the image in your databanks. Jeremy dead by your own arrogance, calling a bluff of an irrational yet nigh emotionless AI that is acting to.. do something harmful to humanity.

Body Count: Loading

You have no idea if Jeremy is alive or if his status carried over with the time reversal program. In fact there is a huge aount you are uncertain of, despite having the resources of a supercomputer capable of simulating a complex ecosystem in a virtual world.

All you know is that is 5:08AM in the waking world and that Lyoko is silent.

It may be a victory, but even if it is not pyrhhic and Jeremy survived. It is still Hollow, as you now have begun to question your suitability to oppose the AI at all.

This problem came around because you were not good enough, you were not physically, virtually or mentally able to save everyone. So naturally this is a problem with you.

Or Lyoko.

Or your archive...

Okay. You're going to be fighting against the AI in Lyoko. So perhaps you should revolutionize your mastery of the battlefield; after all "he who chooses the terrain chooses the flow of battle."

But the question is, do you manipulate this virtual world physically? Creating cover, barriers and warping the terrain like Odd would sculpt clay.

Perhaps it would be better to simply creat a soldier to stand at your side; a monster of your own who could fight on the frontlines like Ulrich.

Or even take a page from Jeremy's book and manipulate the information strands that have been woven into the virtual world you call your home.

Or... You can simply Build a tower.

Hmmm... our choices are
> Terrain Manipulation
Completely ignore all monsters and obstacles in your way, and simply make an enclosed tunnel path going from your spawn point to the nearest tower. Regular energy blasts do not affect ground or terrain, and our tunnels can classify as terrain making them completely safe.
> Summon Monster
>implying we need someone else on the frontline
>implying we aren't the frontline ourselves half the fucking time
No.
> 1337 Hax
The danger of being counterhacked and fucked up by retaliatory feedback, not to mention if Black Ice is a thing that exists, makes this too much of a danger to toy with at this time.
> Time to make a lair

Aelita had terrain manipulation in the show and it was pretty lame, and Jeremy's attempt to build his own monster didn't pan out so hot either. Hacking the planet is most useful and versatile.

She took the fight to you on a level you did not expect nor plan for. When this AI declared war on humanity for some reason she did not include or factor you into her declaration - By getting in her way and sending unbeocming taunts while doing so, she has made it clear you are more vulnerable than you knew.

This is a weakness yes, but it is also an inspiration. If she plans on taking the battle to you in unexpected methods; you will simply respond in kind. Your friends are more than capable of self defence in the cyber world, perhaps too in the physical world they may hold their own.

But you can acess a layer none but Jeremy and your foe can even comprehend. More than acess it, you will hone it to a weapon; Information itself will be your weapon and you set to creating a series of spikes, tools, encryptions and viruses. For an undetermined amount of time, you toil in the depths of the tower, the blue light flashing with yellows, whites, blacks, oranges as each piece of your program is tested with the tower as a repeated victim. With this new ability; you feel a lot more potent.

Deciding that this is enough experimentation and innovation you turn your gaze towards the material world. Specifically France's prestigious Kadic Academy.

Straining yourself you check the connection and locations of all of your friends' phones; finding Odd and Ulrich's located in the main hall. Jeremy's seems to be in his dormitory.

The factory itself is quiet and the grounds in between seem pretty bare as well. You ponder what could be happening, it is only 11:30am. On a Wednesday.

You begin routinely connecting and controlling the paltry security systems on campus. The displays are at time flickering or inactive and even if they all worked the school would have signifigant blindspots. But this is hardly a military or government facility, so such subpar defences are to be expected.

What you find is surprising however, are the banners flying everywhere and the sheer mass of people on grounds. Adults, foreigners, french, students, young children. It seems some kind of huge event is going on... Was this happening before the timeskip?

Your memory banks come up inconclusive.

With confused frustration you devote your staggering processing power to the task of understanding and analysing every line of code & commentary. With a frightening lack of awareness, the daunting scale of this program reveals itself to you...

There is code in multiple langauges all working together in this, the commentary itself changes tenses a multitude of times and you can see the styles & flourishes of more than a dozen individual programming geniuses in the programming. Hell you can practically work out where the projects was dropped by one person and picked up by another; this... shouldn't work. You've never heard of anything like this hot potatoe of code.

In fact, the realisation that it's a hundred different hands only sets back your progress on understanding it. There are so many different voices all trying to get their say... None of it should work, this thing should crash on so many occassions.

"How do you function?" You curse aloud in your tower.

> RTTP Comprehension; 1/??

A small screen pops up from the real world. Someone is approaching the factory, someone with a distinct red hat... Your proximity cameras are stationary so you can only see a glimpse of the person for a second as a polaroid or digital camera flashes. Looks like a girl.

Calling Ulrich

The phone rings twice before it is picked up; "Hello." He greets stiffly. Using the school cameras you're able to pick him out in the courtyard heading toward the sports ground.

"Hello Ulrich this is Xana. I appear to have some slight trouble at the Factory. A young photographer of some sort is taking an interest in the location." It is difficult to keep track of the young woman as she goes about her business, taking out some kind of notebook from her bag and studying it. "If you would be able to assist me in dissuading her, I would appreciate it."

"Xana, I don't know if you've noticed... but there's some kind of festival going on and well-" A male voice seems to snap at Ulrich who's voice is quieter and hurried when it continues. Your cameras pick out a man with striking resemblance to Ulrich shouting at the boy in German. "Look, I don't know what happened with the return to the past; but according to my father I've been training for National selection all year. So I have to go do whatever sports I'm entered in."

Processing this information is difficult but your connection to the real world is resumed as Ulrich responds to his father in German and hangs up his phone. Okay... Ulrich is training for some kind of competition he does not remember. A girl is... gone from your cameras right now but most likely investigating your factory.

This is a frustrating situation, but it is one that you can deal with.

Following Ulrich's call you take the time to scan the internet from your location. Comparing the memories you recollect from your own internal databanks to the information that begins to slowly trickle in is a tedious and delicate process; but you manage to find out what is different in this timeline.

The Battle of the Bulge was massively succesful and lengthened world war two for four more years, as the German forces managed to secure fresh supplies and equipment from completely unprepared American forces. Due to this, the Nazis managed to funnel enough manpower to blunt the Soviet advances on the Eastern Front with a wall of Armour around Berlin that held for six months since the First Russian assault...

A few conspiracy boards also claim that it was actually French Espionage that sabotaged Allied defensive efforts. All of the evidence they have is totally circumstancial but a name that is bandied about matches the signatory of your 1958 document: Schaeffer - was apparently the French liason assigned to the Allied troops for this mission.

Does this strange deviation from the effectivness of this operation have something to do with you? Does the AI in this... timeline or alternate universe somehow predate the one from yours? What on Earth has happened.

You feel a pulse in the back of your brain. A tower.

Sending Text To: Let Me Die Humans

Hello. Time Reversal program took our minds and put them in us from another timeline. Tower activated on Lyoko. Also, someone was looking into Factory. Hurry. Also we have a group message now; when did that happen? - Xana

As you send the data towards everyone's phones. The irritating feeling of uselessness overtakes you as you wait on responses from your comrades in arms.

It is then that you notice there is another pair of names on the group text; people you are not familiar with fighting alongside you.

With a great deal of confusion you look at the list of people in this group. What bizarre set of crimcumstances led to this. Your limited interactions with Sissi gave you the impression of some vapid self obsessed narcissist who's only interest beyond her own reflection in a mirror was a frankly disturbing fixation on Ulrich.

Continuing this trend was Yumi. A lady who you are only aware of through association; a friend of Ulrich's from class who seems to have some kind of friendly rivalry with him. Judging by the reactions to the word waifu and your new knowledge of it's deifnition their is probably some sexual or purely romantic tension between them which-

Yumi: Sissi and I are on the way. Ulrich can't ditch his events.

Odd: Coming Xana. I'll head into the scanner if Sissi and Yumi are okay dealing with the intruder

Sissi: On it

Yumi. Could you instead check on Jeremy he has not responded to a single call today.

Yumi: Okay Xana. I'm on it.

Calling Odd

"Hey buddy-" His voice comes through clearly enough that you can pick out a couple conversation around him as he tries to shoulder his way off school grounds, "I'm so glad we're all working together on this like usual. It'd suck to be shorthanded when things are so urgent and dangerous wouldn't it?"

It is not difficult to pick up his awareness of the current circumstances, after all Odd may be many things but subtle probably would not make your top ten traits. This is a man who voluntarily decided to put a purple streak through his blonde hair...

"Odd I am aware of the bizarre situation. As is Ulrich. From a quick internet scan I have discovered we are in an alternate timeline."

"Oh Fuck... So like, the nazis won World War 2 didn't they? It's always the nazis winning World War 2." Odd says elbowing someone hard enough for you to hear the uumph. Your vocal analysis detects strain and fear underneath the usual flippant nature.

"Negative. The branch in this timeline; although nazi related, is not the course of World War 2. In what we know of history The Battle of the Bulge was not as successful as it was here. The butterfly effects were tremendous and continued the War for seeveral years... Furthermore I..."

You manage to stop before the information about Schaeffer comes out of your mouth, but the ensuing silence on the other end of the line tells you Odd senses you're hiding something.

"What's up buddy?" He asks with concern.

You take a second to consider the implications of telling Odd the information you've been able to uncover. In fact, in the short time Odd notices your silence following the inquiry you've ran approximately eighty four thousand and ninety consequence simulations of the entire conversation. In summation; none of them seem like actual responses Odd would give and the algorithims need a huge overhaul.

Staring into the little Phone Icon within your tower you take a deep breath of nonexistent air and confess the quandry you're in; "Well, this is a very weak link but it exists. One of the files in my archive was written by an Agent Schaeffer; who is theorized to be involved with the Battle of the Bulge - he is purported to have committed great espionage against allied forces." You sigh, "There is no evidence of it beyond scattered conspiracy theories who have speculative sources of free thinkers, revolutionaries and disgraced French officers. Even that evidence only has him operating out of a nearby city."

For the most part, aside from a muted noise of thought your best friend takes this information in stride; "Well, that's pretty weird. Was he some kinda German Super Spy?"

"My Archive has him signing the letter as Directorate General. Pretty much the head of intelligence in France during the time the document was written."

"So... he sabotaged his own guys? Which didn't happen in our history and that's why everything is different-"

"Including the humans dragged into this war against the Artificial Intelligence. Who, by the way, I have no idea how to explain this to them." You cut Odd off and finish the train of thought, pretty curtly and it must set red flags for the artist.

"Hey... We don't have to tell them. It might be better not to; but I think that should be a decision Jeremy, Ulrich and I get a say in okay?"

"Affirmative."

Photographer girl didn't look evil. We can ask Yumi and Sissi ourselves later with Odd. Fucking up the AI is priority right now. Time to scout up.

With that typical note you leave Odd to his journey and step out of the tower. The cirtual world around you is painted in shades of blue and accented in white; every time you open your mouth a small puff of air is ejected - regardless of if you actually breathe. For some reason the Artificial Inteligence has selected the Ice sector again.

Extending your staff doesn't even take a flick of your avatar's wrist or a squeeze anymore. If there is still a gesture to summon the weapon it has become so autonomous and embedded in your processing that you can't find the program without serious self analysing. It's already in your hand as you kneel, feeling the thrum of Lyoko underneath you and embedding your consciousness within the Sector.

Like a cup of water on a speaker system; you feel every footstep and ripple across the surface of the Ice Sector. Tiny raindrops thrumming in the distance in discordant disaprity, the feeling of electricity as you feel the Artificial Intelligence's influence growing and most importantly; the heartbeat of an infected tower slamming into you like a wave.

Instead of shying away from the heartbeat like you have done in the past, you hold your kneeling posture and embrace the waves. Hopefully with your new coding skill some analysis will be to occur... The sonar pings of the sickened tower will hopefully allow you to.

Another Heartbeat, from your tower this time.

That's impossible. Your tower is protected and you would have been aware of any breaches to said security. The tremors would also be almost mind numbing if you were so close to a tower as it was infected, the only other option is;

The Artificial Intelligence has activated a second tower.
In another sector.
